Blue Lock 302
FINALLY!!!! FINALLY WE GET THE NAGI TEARS AFTER ALL THESE CHAPTERS!! Its cathartic af but also 😭😭😭😭😭 The way it gets progressively worst once it finally hits man like I died and cried like Nagi 😭😭😭😭😭
Initially, I thought Nagi's gonna cry right after Manshine lost their final match just cause of how scared he looked before, and tbh I was also quite annoyed that Reo got to cry in chapter 300 yet not Nagi, but I'm really glad it turned out the way it did now.
I really like how this chapter progressed cause it shows us Nagi’s the kind of character who takes a while before his emotions and the reality of the situation hits him. Pretty in character considering how new he is to experiencing emotions, set backs, and anything really.
It was so sad seeing him think that everything's fine and that he’s okay with going back to the life he once had because it shows he’s not even aware how affected he is. We see him living through his daily routine again like at the start of epinagi (very cute), yet every little moment just keeps reminding him of another life he’s lived. With each moment, it’s just getting harder and harder for him to hang on to the façade that “it’s fine”.
It was especially heartbreaking when he was sitting alone at his desk surrounded by classmates and thinking "its fine" "its fine" yet no one actually spoked to him at all throughout the day. Even at the end of the day when everyone has left, he's still just sitting there alone with no one bothering to check up on him. It really hammers in how ALONE Nagi is outside of Blue Lock and how well-loved he is in there with so many cute interactions with so many people. And this is before we even get to his backstory too btw which oh man, I’m sure that’s gonna be another painful experience, child neglect and all.
This boy was okay (comparatively) with having zero friends before Blue Lock but now that’s he’s changed (for good lol…), he just can’t go back to life the way it used to be at all. Not after experiencing friendship and various bonds… the loneliness would hit hard…
I love how his breaking point was seeing his schoolmates playing soccer though (I mean, it’s a soccer manga). That, along with everything before, finally triggered his realization of how miserable he actually is. All his emotions that he was unaware of and subconsciously trying to repress finally hit, and when the dam breaks… The entire sea of regret, longing and sense of loss just overflows. In the end, Nagi really did grow to enjoy soccer for all the heat, fire and excitement it brought him, for allowing him to feel alive and be born from his previously “dead” existence. I just really like this point, that soccer and Blue Lock both mattered to him.
Him reflecting how these feelings were so new to him that he wasn’t aware of them until this moment also broke me, cuz it’s really hammering in how this is the FIRST time he’s experiencing all these emotion. Yet, he has to experience and deal with all these ALONE with no one around him to comfort him at all. Really making me wonder how many things he’d to deal with alone before…
The way he makes himself so small, the way he holds himself while crying all alone in that classroom is really heartbreaking... This page really shows how much of a child he really is, baby chick in everything and all. He even looks so small when he's 190cm… Every page is really just more pain stack on top of more pain. I usually don't like to put manga panels in my rambles just cause I wanna keep the stream of word vomit going but this chapter man... Too many panels that just hits harder and harder as we go along...
How he went from trying to forget everything at the beginning of the chapter to “I’ll never forget it (Blue Lock) as long as I live” feels like a reference to “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” since he’s finally choosing to remember rather than forget even if that brings with it all the pain of loss, regret and tears. Which reminds me I need to watch that movie before the next epinagi chapter, since its titled “Eternal Sunset”…
I wonder if knsr will continue to make links between both series cuz he did it again with the latest epinagi chapter too...with Nagi realizing he's scared "that this fire will disappear", “I wanna stay inside this fire forever", “I wanna stay excited forever", “I wanna never wake up from this dream" all these are like a prelude to this chapter lol. As I said, knsr must really be having fun linking the series for Nagi and hammering in the pain of his downfall. Its like his pen just flows writing all these parallels... Truly his fav.
And finally... the money shot... 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 Its borderline bizarre but also so real and impactful seeing its NAGI, our usually expressionless and nonchalant genius, crying so hard like this (Still so pretty tho even when ugly crying with snot 😭😭😭😭😭). Every time I look at this panel I tear up, but that happens for the other ones too… I think the panel and moment that hits me the hardest is still the one when he first realized "why am I so miserable?" cause that's when shit went downhill fast....
Here, he says he wants to “go back to how I used to be but I can’t” which is again, so painful to read. He wants to feel that fire with everyone and feel alive again so bad but he knows his daily existence just couldn’t do that for him. Not after finally realising how empty his existence was his whole life before something better showed up, but now having to go back to it again. I know this is a manga about Blue Lock and soccer but seeing this, I really hope Nagi manages to find a way to feel fired up again even outside Blue Lock. I feel like him thinking like this means he still has a lot of growth to do because life really is more than Blue Lock. There’s others ways that can allow him to go back to how he used to be (cue accepting his offer?).
Plus he’s still seeing Blue Lock as some youthful place where he got to gain all these new experiences and personal growth when it’s actually a prison for them to fight to the “death” to become the best in the world. I wonder if this is just another sign he needs to grow more and out of this naive mentality. I know it’s what resulted in his lock off and it’s what was criticised but I just have to say I do really like this youthful, pure, naive side to him, it makes him so precious…but it’ll probably be gone eventually right? 😭 (Unless?? 👀👀)
So yea… I’m really looking forward to how his rebirth's handled and I wonder if we’ll get his backstory? Please knsr, treat it with as much care and love as you've doing for his death PLEASE 😭😭😭😭😭 You showed us baby Nagi for a reason right???
Now for some light hearted things lol

I'm so giddy over this panel since I'm pretty sure knsr included this as a dig at Reo fangirls/shippers lol. I wonder if he's as annoyed at them as me cause damn they be ruining my fandom experience fr making EVERYTHING about ships and Reo like leave my babygirl "alone"!!! Maybe knsr got exceptionally fed up with the fandom's response to Nagi's death or something? Lol. Cuz it’s supposed to be Nagi centric!!!
This also reminds me of that panel of Himizu from epinagi. Pretty sure the same group of people are the ones making Nagi out to be some manipulative psychological harasser or something, and pretty sure knsr included that to call them out too lol. Glad to see him always having Nagi's back, he's the biggest Nagi fan fr :p
I really do like that Nagi's relationship with Reo took a backseat this chapter. I feel like after 300, everything is wrapped up nicely for them, Nagi even doubled down on their duo being detrimental for both of them right before he left, so we can move on to a new stage/arc for both of them. I do wonder if Nagi’s kinda repressing his memories of Reo or not this chapter though but either way, I'm reaaaaaally hoping to see individual developments for both of them now. I'm not here to dismiss their bond (I'm a casual ReoNagi shipper after all) but please, no more draggy melodramatic moments... Epinagi be teasing us with how hype they both are on their own so I'm hoping we can see that in bllk too. (I’ve so much to rant about how different bllk second selection Nagi and epinagi’s are but that’s a whole other rant).
Speaking of epinagi, that baby nagi art... I wanna ramble about it (and epinagi 34) separately but its so funny how I've been saying knsr is going for the "Nagi is baby" agenda but now he really is baby 😭 I love how its released on his birthday (and children's day) and right before his tears too... I wonder if its a prelude to his backstory coming in the main series or something...
And I swear... knsr please don't let this be the last we see of Nagi for a while... Like ending it here would just be CRUEL. I don't mind if he disappeared for a while later BUT I NEED TO SEE THIS CRYING SESSION RESOLVED FIRST PLEASE. Imma go with more IsaNagi parallels, that after this low point, Nagi's gonna receive some news from Buratsuta (or Ray Dark lol), or maybe he's gonna accept his offer from the club. I’m so curious who gave that offer, for everyone else’s offers too actually. My delulu ass wants Nagi’s to be from Re Al lolllll 🤡

One Piece 1133 talk: Praise Me for Living
i just wanted to open this with I WANT TO PELT SPANDINE AND THAT FUCKING SON OF HIS WITH ROCKS SO BAD OH MY GODDDD

"I'll never forget the sounds of the screams that emerged from the fire" THOSE WERE CIVILLIANS. ON THE ISLAND YOU ORDERED A BUSTER CALL ON. I HOPE YOU CHOKED IN YOUR GRAVE AND SUFFER IN HELL I HATE YOU
(kind of a moot point but one other thing i wanna say when I was reading through the raws was that Spandine says “ガキの皮を被った悪魔だ”/"That's a demon wearing the skin of a child" here which - to me - felt more visceral than the translation. still an insane thing to say about a child though, obviously.
edit: I was thinking how fucked up it was that literally everyone around her believed that she truly was the devil's child, but with descriptions like that (+ rumors spreading about how she can use "freakish sorcery" [-> devil fruits not being common in the Blues?], she'd "slit your throat in the night", and "no human emotions", like she's not human at all) you can see how easy it was for people to get brainwashed into this wrong idea of her when she was young. Government manipulation in, i guess, the entirety of West Blue at the time, ran deep. anyways)
With that outta the way, this chapter is masterful. Im gonna cry. Ive cried already throughout a third of my reading for this chapter, it's just so good. Nico Robin I love you so much

Though its unfortunate that we have to see Spandine again, Oda knows what he's doing bringing back Robin's tragedy at the start of the chapter. We know her story, we've seen her flashback, but it's an entire other thing to see it again in Elbaf, the arc where we know the context of, that Saul is alive, and it gives us a clue that that is where the chapter is heading towards.
Also isn't it crazy that when the dialogue frames Robin as this "dangerous", "unfeeling" person with no heart, the visual we're presented with is her crying as she sifts through garbage to search for food, and then sharing it with a dog?? Hello??? And the panels before that goes "The government won't go into detail about the story" for fear that "the truth" might "traumatize the children", which is CRAZY when slapped upon an image of cipher pol agents with guns actively hunting down a child??? The juxtaposition of Spandine's dialogue and the images that are shown is very telling, it's just so well done.
TW: discussions of suicide (for this part)
We know that Robin was ostracized as a child. We know this. Doesn't make it hurt any less, though. Especially (and especially) when it's shown on the pages clearly of how it affected her.
What got me thinking when I saw this again was that all of West Blue was probably fed this lie from the World Government. Every island she went to knew who she was, literally everyone was warned to look out for her, that she was dangerous and should be turned in. And it's not like travelling out of West Blue was safe, nor was it probably an option that existed for Robin back then- like, she was eight!! How was she supposed to go across the Red Line, the Calm Belt?? She was truly boxed in. She must've felt that there was no other way out. Of course she'd turn to suicide.
That panel of her at the cliff honestly broke me. It's not like it wasn't implied at all back when her flashback was first shown; Her circumstances were difficult for her and it wouldn't be out of left field to think that she might have considered dying. To have it drawn on a page that she considered it, looked down from a cliff, and the fact that the only thing keeping her from jumping was her mother's words and Saul's promise was genuinely heartbreaking. She was so strong to have gone through all of that, she deserves the whole world and more actually

Cut back to the present and she lived through it all and here she is with her family, a place where she belongs aaaaaa 🥲 I love that Luffy gets all huffy (hah) over Robin saying that she can go alone, saying that a captain needs to pay their respects to those who have helped their crew, that it's the honorable thing to do. Sounds like a certain someone, ey? (Ace & Shanks lol, he remembers Makino's lessons from all those years ago too ;v;).
Then they all insist to go with her and it's so cute and I was like oh when did she change her clothes and $@!#>}! ITS THE SAME FIT SHE WORE WHEN SHE MET SAUL FOR THE FIRST TIME!! SAUL'S "FALLEN AND WON'T GET UP" IS BECAUSE HE DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO GREET HER SO HE DECIDED TO JUST FACEPLANT ON THE BEACH BECAUSE THATS HOW HE MET HER FOR THE FIRST TIME!!! ITS SO SILLY BUT I STARTED TEARING UP??? WHAT????AND THEN THE PARALLELS:
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
my heart...... my heart.....augghjkjsdh..... (speechless)

The fact that the first thing he tells her was about how Ohara's sacrifice wasn't in vain, that traces of them still remain, like Robin, did you hear Vegapunk's message?? That was the message from the people of Ohara, their voices are still being heard!! was so goddang wholesome.
And Robin hears this, and she hears about how Saul survived and the things he heard other people call her, and he's getting angry on behalf of her again but all she wanted (and perhaps, what she truly needed this whole time) was something else;

For Saul to praise her for having survived.
(The Viz translation isn't ~wrong~ with Robin's line here, but I wanted to point out how it was put originally; Instead of "I want to hear nice things about how I survived!", the raws read “生きたこと… 褒めてほしい!”, which, as I understood it, "I want you to praise me... for being alive/having survived!". The chapter title has it as "Nice Things" but the original was “褒めてほしい”/ "I want you to praise (me)". And this probably seemed self-conceited in english?? and that's why it's translated like that idk, i just thought its nicer in jp)
But the fact that Robin is asking this of Saul and the fact that she's able to make that request in the first place is where I sobbed because this is what Robin wants to hear!!! It's a childish, selfish request, and it's something she wasn't able to wish for / doesn't allow herself to wish for before because she thought Saul/anyone she loved from her past was dead this whole time or that she didn't deserve it, but Saul is alive, and it's the first step she needs to take to truly heal!! Her changing her clothes and cutting her hair to seem more like herself when she was younger is a deliberate choice, this is the part of her that needs closure, the part of her that went through all the trauma the world had given her, and she's healing her inner child!! She needed to hear this from Saul!! She deserves this so much!!! (im rambly if this doesnt make any sense im sorry khfdjk)
And Saul laughs, and says of course!/“勿論だ!”, no questions asked, and the unconditional love just broke me down man i cant
Note that Robin was smiling this entire time (maybe from the start of the arc? or at least since she cut her hair) and leading up to the last page was when she finally started breaking down. They're crying, the crew's crying, Luffy looking on so fondly, happy for her, and I'm crying. I love One Piece so much, I love these dorks. I don't think I'll forget this last page for my life, it's one of the best moments in this series to date.... Truly the Robin chapter of all time <3
bonus: lmfao?? maybe they'll let him down once they get back for the festivities but rip bozo
#in which i yap about Robin so hard I start to not make any sense#As always I'm not a native jp speaker I just want to relay the meaning with how I personally understood it#so take everything I say about translations with a grain of salt lol#also one thing i didnt mention was how robin saw a map and drew a little dot on where Ohara used to be and its so damn sad thats it#chapter review#one piece#nico robin#jaguar d. saul#opspoilers#one piece spoilers#elbaf spoilers#one piece 1133#one piece ch. 1133

why do you think that female char are no longer well written on jjk? /genq (i am caught up with the manga so don't worry about spoilers)
SPOILERS AHEAD!!! for me all of this began with nobara's death and it went downhill from there, now see I understand it might've been important to give yuuji motivation etc but when a roach naoya get's to survive again and again after getting killed but there is no hope for nobara who was one touch kill and had chances of survival but doesn't purely for shock factor, it doesn't sit right with me.
Okay, ignore even that maybe it's my attachment to the character talking so let's talk about other female characters: most of the fandom forgets momo exists that's how useless he made her, she suffered no serious damage (not as far as I remember) and her only active role was in kyoto goodwill arc and an appearance in shibuya we barely see her after that.
Gege treats female characters as a catalyst for mcs, either they're completely useless or get killed off or even if they're powerful enough they're barely mentioned or shown doing something useful.
Example for catalyst: We literally never really see Utahime in action except in Shinjuku Battle to boost Gojo's ct. Like really? That's your semi grade 1 sorcerer and all throughout the manga that was her only role?
Example for completely useless: I already talked about momo, lets about miwa okay, she put her everything to that one swing post-shibuya against kenjaku only for him to deflect it with his bare hands and what about her after that? Nothing!! She gave up everything and now she cannot do anything, just another cheap tactic to get rid of another useful character.
Example for killed: Listen I will accept Mai's death because it served the purpose and was one of the most impressive parts but other than that? Yuki Tsukumo, the special grade, the star plasma that rejected even tengen and cornered kenjaku, her death was so anticlimactic and unsatisfactory, she was practically winning but apparently "a miscalculation" caused her death, listen I like a shocking plot twist and death but that seemed like nothing but an excuse to get rid of another strong female character because gege had no idea how he'd use her in future.
More example for catalyst: Tsumiki and Yorozu (aka the same body but!) she was such a driving force for Megumi but after Culling Game arc hit we got a tease of her (or them) and that provided more motivation for megumi to fix things to work harder to bring his sister back but instead of seeing more of her gege killed her off after sukuna took over megumi's body because her purpose was served!! Done. She was there as long as she could be used as a beacon of hope for our poor boy.
Example of if powerful then they're barely shown: Shoko and Mei Mei, we know both of them are quite capable, they've proved their worth and aside from the fact that Mei Mei is a fucking pedophile she's still a great sorcerer but now she doesn't care about sorcerers and henceforth isn't present/doesn't provide much or any help at all other than the telecast. Shoko on the other hand, we're supposed to believe that her using rct is special and she's one of the most important characters mind you she's the part of the og trio but we rarely get to see her. Even know (the up to date manga chapters) they keep talking about taking the injured sorcerers to shoko but they never !! show !! her !! in !! action !! Like c'mon she's been working overtime but SOMEHOW gege can't dedicate more than four panels to her?
Now onto Maki, the only one standing, the only female character gege truly utilised gave her one heck of goal and arc and then very conveniently forgot her for next 100 chapters. She's great yes, and gege's finally back to currently giving her the attention she deserves which I am very skeptical about because if he just kills her off in next chapter to make a statement istg...but everytime she's mentioned they HAVE to mention toji, it's almost like she'll never leave his shadow, all her achievements are boiled down to FEMALE TOJI which, don't get me wrong I love toji but she's more than that, she's a monster because she wiped out a whole clan not because she shares same superhuman powers as her predecessor and dare I say she's already surpassed toji at this point.
Let's not forget Uro and Angel/Hana whom gege brought in once for one job and then we all completely forgot about them. (I am mentioning them last because he's done this with many other characters so they're truly not an unique case in that sense)
Returning back to when jjk first was fairly new and we had these panels

it was hype we thought FINALLY!!!! she doesn't denounce her femininity but isn't used as a fan service material through them either and she's fucking nuts and strong FINALLY!!! only for gege to go well now that you've had the crumbs you're getting neither, not the pretty ones nor the strong ones and even if they're strong I am going to act like they don't exist so have fun!! And that's why I think he's really downgraded.
#I don't expect everyone to agree with me and these are totally my personal opinions but it just doesn't sit right with me how he teased us#with so much potential and then flushed it all out#sorry for the essay but yeah I had to get all of it out#jujutsu kaisen#jjk#ask#kugisaki nobara#shoko ieri#jjk utahime#maki zenin#mei mei#kirara hoshi#jjk miwa#jjk tsumiki#jjk analysis#jjk spoilers#jjk manga

THIS though, the fact that this exists makes me believe his motives for doing...whatever he's doing can't be about keeping/preserving Ai's image, or taking down anyone who outshines her. He's already acknowledged she's just a normal girl. Murdering people for "outshining" someone who's normal... What point is there to that? Tsukuyomi NEEDs to be wrong about this, if not the rest too.. I mean I STILL don't think the author would make someone like Ai love a serial killer :/
That particular chapter was REALLY important in terms of forming his character, I really think he was able to fool everyone by his act, even the god into believing he's in it for such a cause but it can't be. He probably just wants Ai back.
I mean, he shifts his expressions into a smile in 161 too(it's going to come up soon). They drew three whole panels that lead up to it, so he's putting up an act there. When he talks about him believing Ruby would wither in the end and all. I felt that was very obvious because I draw comics too, right? Separating panels like that have an intent. It indicates there's an action going on, and for this guy, it was changing his expressions into a crazy looking smile. It's BEEN confirmed that he had a really kind soul in the past from a god this time, I'm not sure how broken he is now but I feel like his children are the one thing he'd act toward with some sort of affection
So.. I'm really sure that's him pretending to be an evil maniac there because.. You know how Aqua was all like "he needs to erase his kindness"(I forget how it's phrased) for revenge and all and it's a bad move to have Ruby be attached to him etc. This guy is doing the same thing. He's trying to keep Aqua from sympathizing with him/feeling bad about him by pretending to be a bad guy beyond redemption, but the things he say never add up because they are lies.
He lied about having tried to scare Ai.
He lies about wanting to preserve Ruby at her peak.
I mean, if this is his real intent, then why mention things like this about Ai in 154? And in 161, he tells Aqua to go keep watching Ruby, but if he's going to take Ruby's life, like, he really has to be removed right there since HE'S the exact threat that would eventually keep Aqua from doing that??? I say that he's telling him this because he's NOT planning to hurt Ruby. Why would he.
He starts talking about Ruby the moment he realizes Aqua's aiming a knife at him for her sake. He wasn't talking so much about her in the previous chapter, and he mumbles, "so..it's about Ruby"or something like that BEFORE he smiles and starts making menacing looking faces.
He's an ACTOR. He's improvising on the spot in response to Aqua's claims. He tried to go along with Aqua, to have him blame him, while trying to convince him to keep from becoming a murderer, but THAT went SEVERELY wrong as Aqua decides to take him down with himself. Aqua hurts himself so Kamiki gets startled and distressed, and he couldn't react properly to what's followed. Because he cares about his son and he doesn't want him to go down that path he's suffered himself. He DOESN'T want Aqua to get hurt.
That's what's happening in 161. He has pretty consistent character if you take him this way!

this chapter was a piece of art
no, but Kamiki DID understand Ai very well in essence. I get why Ai described him as the first person she's ever wanted to love?? He just got ONE thing off and I don't even think that's entirely his fault either. It cost him everything though.
#oshi no ko#oshi no ko spoilers#I study psychology#if it ain't this I'm not so sure either...#spoilers#I see people confused and I found this post I drew sometime back so#I wanted to bring it back and theorize with it~#hikaru kamiki#oshi no theories

Hange’s Sacrifice and the Culmination of Levi’s Loss and Grief
I think it can be said, without question, that the person within the Survey Corps that was Levi’s closest friend, was Hange. More than any other character, it was Hange that we always saw Levi with, it was Hange with whom Levi shared the same goal, it was Hange who Levi was partnered with the most, and Hange who, out of all his comrades, remained with him the longest, held out the longest. Certainly I think, whether you’re involved in any kind of shipping wars or not, it can’t be denied that with Hange, Levi had a closer personal relationship than just about any other of his comrades. And truly, I think, this is why it was her death, and the circumstances surrounding it, which really served as the tipping point for Levi. Which really plunged him into a state of near crippling depression. I say near, because as we know, Levi still found the strength, somehow, to keep fighting, even after she was gone. But God, it was maybe the hardest thing he’s ever had to do, and that’s saying a lot, considering the amount of loss and pain he’d suffered up to that point.
To really understand just how heavy a burden, just how acute the pain of Hange’s loss on Levi was, I think it’s also necessary to look at what happens just one chapter before, I believe, when Levi is at last able to make it to his feet after being severely injured by Zeke.
We see the panel of Levi pulling himself along the deck railing of the boat the alliance is using to sail to the Azumabito port. He can barely stand, needing to grasp onto the railing, needing to lean his weight almost entirely against it just to stay on his feet. Subsequently, I would point to this exact panel whenever anyone makes the absurd claim that Levi could have fought with his comrades during the battle with the Yeagerists back at the port. No, he couldn’t have. He was barely able to fight during the final battle against Eren. But I digress. Anyway, Armin finds him and naturally expresses alarm at his being up and about, taking hold of him and telling him he should lay back down, to which Levi replies that he’s slept enough. And then he says something that’s really crucial to understanding his character, I think. He tells Armin “Besides, if I sleep much longer, all of you are going to forget I even exist.”.
What this tells us about Levi is just how much of his sense of self-worth is wrapped up in his ability to help people. If he can’t help people, from Levi’s perspective, he might as well not even exist. This truly is a heartbreaking revelation about the way Levi views himself. That he sees himself as worthless if he isn’t able to help others. It also recalls Kenny’s dying words to him, just before he went into his speech about everyone being a slave to something. He said to Levi “What are you, a hero?”. And indeed, that is the thing Levi is a slave to. It isn’t a dream of Levi’s, to be a hero, the way it was to say, Reiner. It isn’t self-serving, it isn’t to boost his own ego or standing in the world. Levi, because of his great strength, and because of the harsh and desperate circumstances of his life growing up, understanding the fragility and fleeting nature of life, feels an incredible responsibility to use it as a sword and shield for others, to protect others, to fight for others and preserve their dreams. He knew he had these abilities which were far beyond that of any other person, abilities which, for a long time, he didn’t understand the purpose of, until he was able to make his first friends in Furlan and Isabel, and he understood finally what his strength could and should be used for. Because he had this thing that nobody else seemingly did, an immense power, and so he felt it was his responsibility to use it for the sake of the people around him. He was doing this as far back as his time in the Underground, where he fought to protect not only Furlan and Isabel, and their dream of living on the surface, but other delinquents and orphaned children who sought refuge and protection under him, as part of his gang. Levi always understood his strength didn’t make him better than anyone else. It wasn’t something he ever bragged about, or felt made him superior, or more deserving than others. It wasn’t something which fed his ego, or gave him a sense of self-importance. He never saw himself as a savior. For a very long time, he didn’t even know what the point of him having his strength was. He just knew he had it, and after meeting Furlan and Isabel, understood that he could use it to keep others safe. And so eventually, in his mind, possessing this thing which nobody else had, being, in a sense, privileged to have a strength no one else had, Levi felt he owed it to others, to use what he had to their benefit.
And so, every time Levi fails to protect those around him, every time he’s unable to save another person, and they die, Levi feels the weight of that loss tenfold, because in his mind, to save them, to keep them safe, to keep them alive, was his responsibility, was his duty, was what he owed to them, with his great strength.
Now, maybe one of the truest examples of how Levi doesn’t see himself, or wish himself, or dream of himself as a hero, but rather simply is a hero, is that, in AoT’s final arc, he’s robbed of the very thing which allowed him to embody that role to begin with. He’s robbed of his strength, and rendered a physical liability even, needing to be carted around and taken care of by others in the midst of extremely precarious and uncertain circumstances. And yet, even with his strength gone, the very thing which he felt made him responsible for others in the first place, he continues to feel that way, continues to feel as if he owes it to the people around him to fight for them, and protect them, and save them. He doesn’t sit around lamenting that his strength is gone and feeling sorry for himself because of it. He doesn’t wallow in self-pity at being robbed of the thing that made him capable of protecting others, that made him special, even. Instead, he pushes past his physical weakness, forcing himself into action, even when he can barely stand, because he continues on in feeling he owes it to those around him to fight, to lay his life on the line for their lives. It isn’t Levi’s strength, then, that compels him to fight for others. It isn’t Levi’s strength that engenders in him the value with which he regards life.
Rather, it’s Levi’s heart.
He was never a hero because it was easy for him to be one. He was never a hero because he was strong. He was a hero because he understood the value in other people’s lives, and no matter his own circumstances, no matter his own abilities, or struggles, he felt he owed it to people to protect that life, to give his in exchange for theirs.
And so now we come back to Hange, and how her death, and the circumstances surrounding it, brought Levi the closest to his breaking point that we ever saw.
It’s been pointed out by others how, when Hange flies off to intercept the colossal titans, in order to give the alliance the chance they need to get the plane airborne, while all the other members of their group watch on as she fights for them, Levi isn’t able to. His eyes are fixed on the ground, a stricken expression on his face. He only looks up for a brief moment when the people around him begin to cheer, and for an instant, hope comes into his heart, that maybe Hange, somehow, miraculously, will survive and make it back to them. Only the hope is short lived, as they make it onto the plane, and Hange continues to fight, separated from them. Again, the rest of the team watches on as Hange at last succumbs to the burning heat of the steam coming off the titans, bursting into tears as she falls from the sky, and once again, Levi is unable to watch, rooted to his seat on the plane, his eyes fixed to the floor. He can’t bring himself to watch his best friend’s sacrifice. He can’t bear to witness what, to him, is his failure to give what he owes to her.
In the moments before Hange leaves, Levi calls out to her, and the obvious implication is that he’s doing so in an attempt to convince her to stop, to stay, likely with the intent to take her place, and give the alliance the time they need. Only Hange cuts him off before he can even get the words out, telling him she needs this, that this is her moment, her chance to finally live up to the role of Commander that she’s been struggling for the past five years to fulfill. Her chance, at last, to live up to the ideal that Erwin set, an ideal which, poetically, Levi himself gave Erwin the chance to embody by telling him five years earlier to “give up on (his) dream and die”.
Levi had already sensed this possibility, when Hange expressed to him her fears of what their fallen comrades would think, seeing where they were now, and where Hange herself, specifically, had lead them. Levi tells Hange that she sounds like “him”, meaning Erwin, and expresses his own dismay at the similarity, wishing her to stop, to not make the same sacrifice to duty that Erwin had made. He can’t bear to lose another friend to that. He can’t bear the burden of another failure to protect the people he cares for. And yet, shortly after, that’s exactly what happens. Hange makes it clear that she won’t be stopped, that this is what she needs, and Levi can do nothing but support her in her decision, allowing her to leave with an affirmation of their ideal, telling her to “dedicate your heart” as proof of his belief and respect in her, and what she now dies for.
But this truly is the bitterest of pills for Levi to swallow.
Just hours before, he pushed through his own physical frailty and weakness to rally to the cause of humanity, overcoming his own limitations to simply stand up and prepare for battle, to lend his arm to the fight and the protection of his comrades. He continued to feel, despite having every excuse in the world to sit this one out, that it was his duty and responsibility to fight, to give whatever he had left to his friends and fellow soldiers, and to humanity as a whole, only to have that determination thrown back in his face, as he fails yet again to protect the life of his best friend, unable to do anything as she gives her life up for the cause.
Levi’s body language following Hange’s sacrifice really says it all. Never before have we seen him so outwardly dejected and despairing. He sits with slumped shoulders, very nearly curled in on himself, as if in shame, and a visibly pained expression etched into his features, brow furrowed in what seems a struggle against tears. With Hange’s death, the weight of all his losses finally begins to bend Levi, threatening to break him. He is bowing under the weight of his anguish, brought to the brink of hopelessness, and doubt. He is struggling to find the will anymore to continue on, to find the purpose in it.
There really couldn’t have been a heavier burden for Levi to bear in that moment, then to once again have to accept another friends sacrifice, and his own inability to save them, when already he felt as if his weakened state threatened to make him useless. Hange’s death could only serve to reaffirm those feelings in Levi, that belief he holds that, if he isn’t able to help people, he may as well not even exist, so immersed is he in the notion that he owes his life to others, to their hopes and dreams. Levi has never lived for himself, he’s always placed the lives of others above his own, always regarded the value of others lives as above his own, and yet, he alone remains alive out of every close friend he ever had. The weight of that burden would be enough to break just about anyone. Any man lesser than Levi would have succumbed in that moment to utter despair, and given up.
But Levi didn’t. He didn’t give up. He kept fighting, right up until the very end. He saved more lives. And he gave meaning to every, single one of his comrades sacrifices. And after, he continued on still, in their memory, living out the life they had given their own to realize, continuing to bear the weight of their dreams on his shoulders, to make certain what they gave wasn’t given in vain.

So We Meet Again: Dark! Stucky x Reader
Requested: Yes, based on a prompt by @heavenlyseb
A/N: I was halfway done with LACs next chapter but the inspiration died Idk why so I thought I’d invest the creative energy somewhere else and then try my hand at that again. Thank you to you for dropping this request in my ask box, @heavenlyseb.
WARNINGS: Non-con, Mental breakdown, spiking a drink.
Summary: Reader tries to escape her past but it’s harder when your past includes dangerous men.
Word Count: 1.3 K {so drabble I think}

The entire day something had felt wrong. Maybe it was the universe’s way of sending you a message, foreshadowing misfortune in ways it knew.
For the first time ever you had messed up breakfast, spilling the coffee and burning the toasts. Then you had forgotten some very important papers at home that Steve thankfully had a soft copy of on his laptop. After you left office earlier than him like you always did to go home and cook, you had your car die on you and leave you stranded. This series of unfortunate events didn’t end there; unfortunately, it followed you home.
The streak continued with the laundry getting messed up, all whites turning pink and colored fabrics getting bleached. You fingers got stuck in a drawer, yours toes also getting stubbed. Nevertheless the day wasn’t even close to beating the worst day of your life; more like the worst few months of your otherwise simple life.
A shudder ran through you as the thoughts and memories you had buried so deep surfaced again. With one uncurbed thought that gave rise to the unpleasant memory train, you were back in that posh glass office again.
It was New Years Eve. The decorations were still hung up around the large rooftop arena, from Christmas a few days ago. The bars had the strongest alcoholic drinks wearing pretty shades of blue and orange. There were plants draped in ornaments, a lot of them. You remembered chuckling about how the potted plants were a show of wealthy people, all affluent people pretending to have a green thumb or care for the Earth.
You greeted the people you knew and joked about resolutions. You remember hanging out with the only actual friend you had there, the receptionist Lucy. Anyone else you talked to at the company was merely a coworker, some of them plotting your downfall even. But Lucy was genuine, and so your only friend.
Said friend however, did abandon you few minutes prior to midnight with poor, half a hearted apologies, running in preparation for her midnight kiss. You giggled and honestly, weren’t even offended, just amused by her antics.
You planned on sulking in the corner with the other singles who weren’t ready to mingle and saying goodbye as soon as the clock hit twelve. That plan failed when your handsome hunk of a boss, whom you had seen only a handful of times and encountered for even fewer, brought you a drink and asked for a few minutes of your time.
You don’t know what made you go then, nor do you have any better take on the situation even now but the gist of it all was that you did oblige. It could have been the alcohol coursing through your veins, the encouragement by others’ jealous stares and Lucy’s wink or even the slight crush you had on the man with the cerulean eyes.
However, going to his office and him fucking you on that sandalwood desk wasn’t your choice.
You remember him kissing you at the midnight stroke, a kiss sizzling with passion and yearning. When you both pulled away, you felt flushed and giddy but the carnal desire in his eyes after just one kiss alarmed you. Still, you offered to exchange numbers for a follow up, he was your boss after all but your dazed mind could not even remember your own number.
Your mind began to lose consciousness as you sweated and your skin heated, head and folds burning alike. You slipped in and out of articulacy, fragments of memory in your mind.
You shook your head as you realized you were shaking, keeping the knife down on the board and halting the slicing of tomatoes. You wiped your tears as you chided yourself for almost getting into another accident, a fatal one even, zoning out like that with a sharp knife.
The sound of the door opening and closing made you calm, Steve was home now. You hadn’t told him everything about your past yet, just bits and pieces, but you had never felt unsafe with him. He was nothing short of a gentleman, courted you properly and even waited months when you weren’t initially ready.
He let you progress the relationship on your terms, his support always there whether it was the question of spending a night together or moving in. His arms were where you felt the safest, his strength a promise of protection.
A second set of footsteps made you furry your eyebrows, Steve didn’t inform you of company tonight. You pushed your anguish aside, putting on a facade for his guest as you got back to chopping.
“Honey, I’m home.” Steve’s holler made you easy, his presence itself was comforting.
“I’m in the kitchen.” You sung back, the nickname making you smile.
“I brought a guest for dinner, hope you don’t mind.” He called out from the living room, the slight thud of furniture telling you they sat there.
You checked the broth, dinner for three would take time, even more so as your bad luck kept you on your toes today. Switching off the stove you sighed and made you way to the living room.
You planned to ask Steve to order and simultaneously greet his guest but ice froze in your veins when you entered the square doorway. Your planned again and at this point, one would think they had a knack for unsuccessful plans.
You could never forget the broad shoulders, the silky brunette locks and the sapphire blue eyes of James Buchanan Barnes, the handsome devil that haunted your existence.
You remembered waking up to your senses getting slaughtered. The drag of a cock in your hole as you clenched as tightly as a boxer’s fist. The squelching noises, the breathy moans and the sound of skin slapping skin. It took all you had in you to open your eyes every time you slipped out of consciousness.
You remembered being taken on every surface in his large office, against the glass panels looking onto the city below, on his velvet sofa, even his private elevator.
Barnes had whispered sweet nothings in your ears that night and every night after like he was your lover, not your assaulter. How he cornered you with the obscene footage the night after when you threatened to press charges. You both knew then that you had no hope, no chance of winning against him and would have no dignity either if released some footage with some faces blurred.
He used and abused you and his power, until the day you finally gathered your guts and went far way, a new place, new start.
You believed you didn’t leave a trail behind but then how was the devil himself greeting you in your own home?
Your whole body shook like it did minutes earlier and you found Steve gently cradling your face. You flinched at his touch, skidding away, “Get this man out of here, Steve!” If looks could kill, the brunette would have dropped dead.
James Barnes had the audacity to smirk as you brushed a hand through his hair, ever so confident and smug, your shaken form amusing him.
Steve hung his hand around your shoulder and wiped a tear that had escaped. His arms were your haven and such you had believed until a moment later, “That’s no way to greet Bucky, sweetheart.”
Your head whipped at light’s speed as you looked in horror at Steve, the hold on your shoulders tightening and keeping you alongside him.
“He was kind enough to give you months to adjust but now he misses you more than he can endure.”
“Steve, you don’t know what your bastard of a frien-” You started hoping it was a misunderstanding on your part.
At the curse, Steve’s grip became bruising as he cut you off, “Trust me sweetheart, I know. Bucky and I don’t have secrets.”

BnHA Chapter 287: Family Reunion
Previously on BnHA: The Tomura For One VS Deku And Pals clusterfuck reached new levels of clustfuckery as AFO possessed Tomura’s body and stabbed Kacchan and Endeavor. Shouto was all “good thing I leveled up offscreen so as to be able to fly around whilst carrying 400lbs worth of people”, and did just that and it was like, damn, son. Meanwhile Deku’s rage went Mach 100, and he kicked Tomura’s ass for almost two whole seconds, but in the process he apparently forgot that IF TOMURA TOUCHES HIM THAT IS VERY BAD, and so he stupidly let Tomura touch him and Tomura was all “GAME, SET.” Fortunately for Deku, his quirk plays by its own rules, and so the chapter ended with us cutting to the METAPHYSICAL OFA/AFO PARANORMAL DREAMSCAPE OF MYSTICAL BULLSHIT, where AFO!Vestige was all “lol Tomura y u mad”, and Nana!Vestige was all “SUP DEKU, YOU’RE JUST IN TIME, LOOKS LIKE IT’S ASSKICKING O’CLOCK.” I’m paraphrasing a bit, but that’s more or less the gist of it.
Today on BnHA: AFO is all “well if it isn’t Tomura’s grandmother who I murdered that one time”, and Deku is all “?”, and AFO is all “fucking vestiges, man, wild”, and Deku is all “??”, and AFO is all “ANYWAYS GETTIM TOMURA”, and OFA is all “NOT SO FAST”, and Deku is all “???”, and really, same. AFO then goes off on some wild tangent about how Deku is unworthy because he couldn’t protect everyone and needed help from OFA and got mad about his friends being stabbed, which is such a cold take it gave me hypothermia, but it ends up not mattering since Deku and Tomura both wake up seconds later with OFA still in the possession of its rightful owner, HOW ABOUT THAT. The chapter ends with the LoV approaching on Gigantomachia’s back with Dabi practically salivating at the mouth, and Toga trying to reignite an old fandom blood feud. Toga why would you do this to me. Toga.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSS

[CROWD LOSING THEIR MINDS] FINALLY THE NANA HAS COME BACK TO BNHA!! IF YA SMELLLLL WHAT THE NANA IS COOKIN!!!!! [RINGSIDE BELL CHIMING WILDLY] [LOUD AIRHORN NOISES]
“chapter 287: mistake” omg. yeah I’ll say you made a mistake, AFO. I HOPE YOU ENJOY THESE FLEETING LAST MOMENTS OF YOUR SHITTY EVIL LIFE
(ETA: so in all seriousness this must be referring to AFO’s belief that All Might/OFA made a mistake in choosing Deku, right? “I can’t believe you went and chose this shounen manga protagonist as your champion, what were you thinking.” I’ll just put this out there: however many comic books AFO read as a child, it clearly was not enough.)
wow Deku how slow are you

yes you’re inside OFA you dimbulb, did you think your clothes suddenly vanished out of the blue and the ghost of Nana just randomly appeared in the real world by some freak coincidence?? can you believe this kid. breaks his arms a measly 10-15 times in a row and all of a sudden he can’t think straight, get it together Deku
but also brb having a moment at the fact that his thoughts immediately run back to Kacchan, even with all of this nonsense going on and Nana about to lay the beatdown on AFO’s potato-lookin’ ass. forget that noise, all he wants to know is whether or not Kacchan is all right. fuckin’ geez. AM I OVERREACTING HERE A BIT. probably
(ETA: ALSO!! the way he just trails off!! “Kacchan is...” and then he can’t bring himself to complete the thought. oh my god my heart.)
HOLY SHIT

okay,
damn but this man sure knows how to ruffle my feathers. as eminently detestable as ever!!
could it be any clearer here that AFO is not on Tomura’s side?? for a moment I thought he had actually grabbed him by the back of the head in order to get him to look. but nope, he’s just resting his pointing hand on top of his head instead while he’s all “HEY TOMURA LOL IT’S THE GHOST OF YOUR DEAD PATHETIC GRANDMA”
for those keeping track at home, this would be the first time that Deku has heard this information -- that Tomura is Nana’s grandson -- and possibly the first time Vestige!Nana has heard it as well. Nana died when Kotarou was still a child, so for all we know the Vestige!Nana didn’t even know she had a grandson, lol. TODAY ON “MAKESTE RANTS AT LENGTH ABOUT THINGS THAT WILL PROBABLY BE ADDRESSED WITHIN THE NEXT THREE PANELS”, anyway moving on
lmao for the record I fucking LOLed at this giant question mark immediately bubbling up over Deku’s head

no idea what AFO is about to ramble on about now, haven’t read that far yet. but let the record show that Deku’s immediate reaction to hearing “BTW NANA IS YOUR ARCHNEMESIS’S GRANDMA LULZ” is everything I could have hoped for
(ETA: fandom nailed the shit out of this one with the confused Mr. Krabs meme lmao.)
okay so now AFO is monologuing at length about how he would sometimes have “riveting dreams” about the previous owners of all the quirks he stole. but once he gave the quirks away they stopped bothering him?? holy moly let me just take all the notes
okay so he’s saying that Vestiges are created whenever someone has their quirk stolen by AFO. but if they then disappear when he gives the quirks away, does that also mean that whoever receives the quirks also gets the original owner’s Vestige bundled in every time?? that would be wild okay hold up let me read the rest of this

so he’s saying that the Vestiges are actually the “consciousnesses” of the original quirk owners, which have become embedded in their dna or something. SOUNDS INCREDIBLY DUBIOUS TO ME LOL but on the other hand this is a world where children can be born with airplane heads, so my disbelief can hardly afford to pick and choose what it’s gonna be suspended at! anyways though, how does he know he’s the only one who was able to converse with them? did you conduct detailed six-month follow-up interviews with everyone you gave quirks to or what
and if it really is the case that this ability was formerly exclusive to him, isn’t that more evidence than ever that OFA and AFO are actually THE EXACT SAME QUIRK oh whoops am I getting ahead of myself again, sorry
MEANWHILE TOMURA IS ALL, “GRANDMA?”

“WHY AM I HERE, WELL LET ME TELL YOU A STORY, GRANDSON. YOU SEE THAT MAN GROWING OUT OF YOUR RIBCAGE THERE? WELL IT’S JUST THE FUNNIEST THING, ACTUALLY”
WAIT SO IS HE SAYING THEY’RE SOULS OR NOT??

this makes it sound like they won’t ever get to rest, which sure sounds like a soul thing to me. well whatever, soul, consciousness, I guess it’s just semantics at the end of the day
anyways though, so this asshole is finally done talking (I’m sure that won’t last), so now we can finally have the heartwarming reunion we’ve all been waiting for

sigh
-- actually, no, not “sigh”!! you know what!! because Tomura says “whatever the reason”, but that’s only because he doesn’t actually have a fucking clue about the reason. like, I don’t know if the knowledge that AFO killed Nana would be enough to give him pause, but if he knew the whole story and knew that AFO was behind not only Nana’s death, but the rest of his family’s deaths as well... now that would be a whole different thing
anyway. but at least it’s becoming clearer now why AFO spent all that time raising Tomura up as his heir and brainwashing him even though he seems to have been planning this body takeover the whole time. it’s all because he loves making people miserable! yaaaaay
btw HAS NANA HAD THE EXACT SAME MOLE ON HER CHIN AS TOMURA THIS ENTIRE TIME WTF. am I just the least observant person who ever lived lmao
lol wtf

ground: [randomly starts exploding]
Deku: “ONE FOR ALL IS BEING ERODED!!!” LOL IS THAT WHAT’S HAPPENING HERE, OKAY THEN. I’ll take your word for it
y’all I cannot fucking get over this “AFO growing out of Tomura’s hip socket like a fucked-up ventriloquist dummy” shit though

you do realize that absolutely no one can take you seriously right now, right?? it’s important to me that you know this
WHAT’S THIS NOW

seems like SOMEONE has had it up to here with a certain SOMEONE ELSE’S bullshit lmaooo bye Felicia

I SAID GOOD DAY!!
you guys why is he not dying!!

-- OH DAMN

love how Deku is just lying there like “YOU KNOW THOSE DAYS WHERE YOU’RE LIKE, THIS MIGHT AS WELL HAPPEN.” poor Deku
(ETA: where in god’s name is OFA Prime standing. why are my thoughts fully consumed by this lmao.)
are Nana and OFA Prime even doing anything?? why are they sticking their arms out like that. wait hold up is this all a big metaphor for the back-and-forth going on between Tomura trying to steal OFA and OFA being all “actually no you can’t, please enter your password and click on all the boxes with bicycles in them to prove you’re a human first”?
OH SNAP OFA PRIME SAID NO THANKS

“SORRY BRO WE’VE ALREADY MADE OURSELVES AT HOME HERE”
I have only just noticed that metaphysical!Deku has the same scars as actual!Deku. and yet his arms are not currently broken! that doesn’t really seem consistent to me but whatever!! maybe he saved right before the boss battle, that would be smart of him
anyway, that’s great and all that OFA Prime is here helping out, but I really wanted to see Nana fight AFO in a one on one though so I’m a bit disappointed. also why is it only the two of them?? where are Banjou and the others. of all the times to be sleeping on the job
FOR FUCK’S SAKE, THIS MAN

WOULD YOU STOP. WOULD YOU JUST QUIT IT ALREADY
oh shit hold up

doesn’t this confirm that the reason he wanted to transfer his power to Tomura is because he believed it would make him strong enough to finally take OFA because of Quirk Singularity? jesus christ. and here he was so sure of himself. but it turns out he doesn’t actually know shit! you can’t just fucking take OFA like that ya dingdong that’s not how it works
(ETA: SO, A THOUGHT -- is there any sort of subtle hinting here in the way that he words this? “if your strength is combined with mine”, as opposed to “if my strength is combined with yours”? no idea if the admittedly-so-small-as-to-be-almost-inconsequential distinction between those two sentences exists in the original Japanese or not, but I find it very interesting that the English wording implies that he’s the one adding Tomura’s strength to his own, rather than vice versa.)
now he’s insulting Deku!!

excuse me sir WHO ASKED YOU anyway. and never mind that being consumed by an, AND I QUOTE, “unquenchable” rage is your protege’s whole THING, and that he also needed your help to avoid being burned to a crisp a short while ago. where do you get off I swear
(ETA: also just want to point out that in the panel before this one he says that he’s been “watching through Tomura”, which pretty much confirms that his consciousness or whatever is alive inside of him all the time. Tomura is definitely not getting rid of this guy any time soon.)
WOW

first he calls Kacchan useless, then he calls Deku a simpleton, and don’t even get me started with Nana. just, you guys. this man is just... a very, very rude man
NOW OFA IS ALL “THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT MAKES HIM SUCH A GOOD PROTAGNIST YOU BUTTMUNCH” AND OMG PREACH

“DESPITE HIS COMMON SENSE” sdfkllk my man he already has one brother roasting him, take it easy guy
AHH WHAT

IS THIS BACK IN THE REAL WORLD
YEP

hahaha nice try Tomura
so Deku’s all “I didn’t lose my power! BUT” and I assume the “but” is the part where his arms are still broken and shit, and meanwhile Tomura’s body is almost healed up now finally
they’re both wiped out and now AFO is again petitioning Tomura to let him take over goddammit

“you won’t lose your mind” yep, he sure won’t! scout’s honor!! pinky swear!!
meanwhile Deku is getting fucking desperate flkjl;k my baby. and Machia is going to show up any second now too, probably. what else can fucking go wrong at this point
oh shit I shouldn’t have asked

get ready to rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrruuuumble, probably
OH MY GOD

WELL AT LEAST SOMEONE HERE IS HAVING A GOOD TIME. jesus
so as soon as he heard Endeavor was there he got all, “TIME FOR THE BIG REVEAL”, is that right? WELL JOKE’S ON YOU TOUYA, YOUR DAD DOESN’T SEEM ALL THAT CONSCIOUS AT THE MOMENT, SO THAT’S GOING TO DRAIN A LOT OF THE TENSION FROM THE SCENE WHEN YOU GO ALL REVERSE DARTH VADER ON HIM AND HE’S ALL “ZZZZZZZZ”
meanwhile Toga is having unsettlingly quiet angst

jesus christ Toga this is all we need right now

“WAS JIN-KUN NOT A PERSON” sdkfjlk Horikoshi I swear. please have mercy on this fandom. this is the debate that refuses to die!!
but seriously ffs, the issue isn’t that Jin deserved to die, it’s that the countless people whom Jin would have either directly or indirectly killed didn’t deserve to die either. people don’t only become people when you attach names and faces to them! we all loved Jin because we’d gotten to know him, but that doesn’t mean his life was inherently worth more than the lives of all the people he would have killed. sometimes there’s just no good answer
like, it’s just crazy to me that because the heroes are all “we want to protect everyone!” but then aren’t always able to do so because that’s literally impossible, whereas the villains are all “we don’t care about anyone other than the select few people that we actually like!”, the villains somehow wind up getting the better PR. it just so happens that it’s infinitely easier to be loyal to the interests of a few people as opposed to ALL THE PEOPLE. like, no shit, it’s easier to stick to your moral code when you barely have a moral code. and so the villains can kill thousands and no one bats an eye, but if a hero fails to save even one person they’re hypocritical moral failures. like what the hell
BUT ANYWAY, sorry to go off on a tangent there lol, it’s not really a big deal. I’m just preemptively trying to stave off more discourse about it lol but who am I even kidding
anyways lol, but of course they won’t kill you unless they have no choice, Toga. but when it comes to catch-22 situations, it’s a bit much to infer that the heroes don’t consider the villains people just because they opt for the choice that spares more innocent lives. I sure as hell don’t want my babies out here killing people, but to say that they can’t no matter what or else they’re no different from the villains is just...
anyway so the chapter has now just ENDED, just like that!! on a shot of Ochako’s face!

I SENSE ANOTHER THROWDOWN COMING. and it had better not be a total letdown like the last one! NANA BARELY DID ANYTHING HORIKOSHI, WHAT THE FUCK. I started out with such high hopes lol
but I will settle for Toga VS Ochako, and Deku VS Tomura: The Sequel: Shouto’s Revenge! SPEAKING OF HEROES WHO HAVE NO QUALMS ABOUT MURDERING PEOPLE lmao

OnS Theories (23S). Seventh Theory & Analysis - Mikaela’s memory. Denial or Embracing Remembrance (Long Theory)
Hello everyone, this is one of the last theories I’ll be updating before the new chapter is released.
This one is more inclined to be an analysis but it does have a bit to theory, therefore, let’s begin!
P.S: Theories are held within a neutral view and ships are excluded
This theory popped as a result of chapter 104, on which one panel had a rather unique display:

Image taken from Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign - Chapter 104
Back when the fight between Yuu and Mika took place, the demon Mikaela was able to pierce through an injury he made on Yuu in order to pry on his heart and what tortured him; but of course, this became an opportunity for Yuu to open the demon Mikaela’s heart which resulted on the same nightmare both saw and lived:

Image taken from Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign - Chapter 104
In the depthness of the demon Mikaela’s heart resides that undenying pain that was carried over his heart the very moment their family was destroyed by Ferid Bathory, but then, the next panel shows a rather different display, what do I mean?

Image taken from Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign - Chapter 104
Correct. The demon Mikaela does not remember the past in general but vage fragments of it float within his mind:

Image taken from Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign - Chapter 104
Despite this, Yuichiro aims to make Mika remember, to make him reason something important and that is the fact that it’s his heart too, what do I mean?
Even if Mika is currently a demon, Mika’s heart still retains memories of what happened in the past:

Image taken from Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign - Chapter 104
But now, after making a small review of the previous chapter, what does this suggest?
Does Mika truthfully not remember a thing about his past? Is he in a phase of denial? Or will he embrace remembrance?
Even if it has a rather simple insight at first, there are some factors that need to be taken in consideration, what does this mean?
It’s known that the demon Mikaela, before turning into one, reached the happiest dream he could ever have on his whole life, a life with no demons, no vampires, no problems, just paradise, a place where his family was, but, even despite seeing the best dream of his life, he was very well aware that it was simply that, a dream, a possibility that couldn’t exist in the real world, but despite him rejecting the idea, he was technically in the path of turning into a demon due to the desires he carried deep within his heart, which of course eventually lead to him appearing in the world:

Image taken from Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign - Chapter 93
After he became a demon, he got awareness he needed to devour human desires, he was aware he needed to feed in order to preserve his physical body in order to keep existing, but, since he wasn’t able to find one in the fastest way, he went right to where he could find peace and of course that place was what his heart and soul separated from each other, what do I mean?
Back when chapter 98 arrived, I made a theory which eventually turned out to be quite a reality of a fact:
OnS Theories (17S). Twelfth Theory - Mikaela’s Samsara and Demon Mikaela (Sad Theory)
In said theory, I pointed out that his soul was living a happy life, which was directly reflected on how the human Mika and the kids of the orphanage lived happily:

Image taken from Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign - Chapter 98
But of course, such dream or world of happiness of what his soul cherished was quickly crushed thanks to the black demons that were sent by Sika Madu in order to retrieve the demon Mikaela’s soul, which of course leads to that scene on which Asuramaru reawakens the memories of the human Mikaela that lived and experienced that pain his soul wanted to forget thus leading to his breakdown and of course with further events, it leads to how Yuichiro went to his rescue in order to bound him to his former weapon he used as a vampire:

But now, returning to the main point of this theory, what exactly is happening with the demon Mikaela? What’s exactly going within a psychological view?
Despite how the First Progenitor labels him as his “son”, and how he is seen as a key or a tool for the First’s ambitions, there’s something that must not be forgotten, what do I mean?
Mikaela, despite being a demon, has his own autonomy

Image taken from Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign - Chapter 104
Even if everything is technically dancing on the First’s palm with few exceptions presented, Mikaela isn’t following what the First wishes, but how can I state this?
This is due to the very fact that Mikaela wasn’t captured by the other black demons that had the orders to capture him, leaving him as a clean canvas, I mean, he’s literally someone who has resided within a neutral standpoint between two factions, one made of humans and the other made by the First.
This only has lead him to be alone in the world, this war of factions has left him only as someone whose heart was shattered in many pieces after trying to protect what it was dear to his soul after becoming a demon, which of course this heavily touches something very common within human nature and psychological standpoint, what could it be?
Correct. Denial
Denial is commonly known as a phase a human goes through whenever such person faces something strong, such as death, murder, other kind of crimes which are heavy topics of course thus leading the person to create a self defense mechanism on which there’s rejection about something that has happened; It goes far to the the point of insisting it’s not there, but now, you might wonder how this is tied to Mika.
Is there even a proof to this?
As crazy it sounds, there is proof:

Image taken from Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign - Chapter 101
As I mentioned before, in chapter 101, Asuramaru managed to finally attack Mika’s consciousness since he was able to trigger that which resided in the depths of his heart; Asuramaru literally brought back the trauma his soul aimed to keep buried forever, which of course resulted on leaving Mika broken:

Image taken from Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign - Chapter 102
After Yuu found him and saw him broken, he went to save him and linked his body to the sword he used to wield, but, within this, there’s something to notice; what does that mean?
Once Yuu managed to reach the heart of the demon Mikaela on the sword he was sealed, something rather intriguing happened right away, and what could that be?
Correct. The demon Mikaela was unfazed, his attitude was that of not giving a care about anything anymore, he was broken but now that he was tied or bound to a sword, he stopped seeing that frail hope he used to have even if it was briefly:

Image taken from Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign - Chapter 103
For the demon Mikaela, as a newborn demon, it could be said he had a certain degree of awareness that his soul seeked peace, he was aware his soul fought hard in order to persevere in the real world until it was over; which of course would explain that at first, his attitude with Yuu in chapter 103 was that of not giving a care nor aiming to understand why the human in front of him wanted to face him down when he was a demon; furthermore when Yuu mentioned he chose the place of reunion, the demon Mikaela doubted until he discarted such thoughts as unnecessary.
The very fact he states “nothing matters at all anymore” which of course leads to the fight between Yuu and Mika, but despite this, despite the odd attitude taken, is there still hope for Mika?
There is, what could it be?
Longing for Remembrance
Remembrance is defined as an action of remembering something that held meaning or value to one’s life, but, how can this concept be applied to the demon Mikaela?
That’s simple. His actions speak louder than words.
The demon Mikaela has a degree of awareness, his very heart, the one that will never forget despite the changes he has experienced, still recalls the fondness he has even if his mind does not remember; but, how is this possible?
It is said that, the body alone is able to remember experiences be it pleasant ones or traumatic ones; the mind can forget to some degree but deep down buried within, the mind still holds such information of events that happened in one’s life, which is something that could be applied to the demon Mikaela, thus leading to his resolve of aiming to save Yuu even if his decision wasn’t the wisest for forcing his way in Yuu’s heart:

Image taken from Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign - Chapter 104
His remembrance or the longing for remembrance is what pushed his autonomous self to push forward and invade Yuu’s heart with the purpose to understand why he’s so different from other humans that would have lost the battle against him; he wants to understand what binds Yuu to his nature but also he wants to understand what Yuu is caught on and made him be such way.
His definition of saving is to find exactly the truth about Yuu on his own even if Yuu didn’t exactly allow him to. And of course, it is unknown whenever what he finds in the darkest corners of Yuu’s heart will be something pleasant to see or not but that will be left up to the author of course.
It can only be concluded that, with this constant struggle of denial and remembrance, remembrance will win with time.
And this is because despite how Mika currently is, Mika does have consciousness like Yuu; he has a will, he is an autonomous being, hence why he has taken his own decisions so far. That’s why he didn’t want to go with those serving the First and it’s precisely that flame that still persist, that flame that keeps him alive, is the sole reason as to why remembrance will eventually win.

Chapter 1: Marooned
Rating: T, for language, Canon Typical Violence/Action. Honestly, this chapter isn't that bad, the T rating is just in case I forgot about something lol
Wordcount: 3,776
Warnings: Canon typical violence and adventure, female OC with name × Tech slowburn, but not too slow lol, NOT BETA'D, because if I have to stare at this first chapter again I'm not going to post it.
A/N: HAPPY TECH TUESDAY, LOOK I'M FINALLY POSTING SOMETHING, WHEEEEEEEEEEE
There were bad ideas, really bad ideas and then there was this.
The ship hums under her feet as it trudges through the far corner of the mid rim, chugging along on it’s route without any sign of trouble or disruption from it’s preplanned course.
It should have been a routine pillaging, something she had placed firmly in the ‘great ideas’ list but instead it had turned into a routine mutiny and finished the day as a routine marooning. She sighs as she lays her head back against the seamless panel behind her.
Fucking pirates.
She has been stranded on the old freighter for at least two moons, but it was hard to say with certainty. The droids that man the ship have no need to eat so more often than not they forget to pass along anything to keep her mounting hunger at bay, adding along to the lack of any kind of panel to the outside world, getting her bearings is proving to be more difficult than usual.
She hisses a swear to drown out the low growl of her belly and focuses her gaze on the far corner of the room. Another day, another chance to count the diamond shaped tiles above her cell, she swears the number changes every other time she counts. She doesn’t get farther than eighteen when the door of the maintenance room blows open.
The dust fills the room, hiding everything under its grimy shadow. The grit in the air crackles as it’s pushed against the red of the electron walls that keep her prisoner with the ships cooling coils and a water filtration unit that has calcified and has never been fixed.
"Well look at that, we found it! Lucky break!"
"Luck had nothing to do with it, if you had studied the schematics of this cruiser like I had asked-"
"Yeah yeah yeah." The first figure, a hulking shadow in the doorway brushes off the smaller one as he stomps into the suddenly too tiny room.
"The memory core should be at the end of the-" the smaller of the two figures stops in front of her cell as the big one charges towards the end of the room without stopping. They launch themselves into the piles of junk thrown haphazardly inside, "That's concerning."
"Concerning? You see someone in a cage and you go with ‘concerning’?" She replies as she pulls herself up to standing. She takes in his armor, modified clone armor from the looks of it painted pale with a bright red stripe down his chest, his eyes slightly magnified by the goggles on his face, the rest hidden by the elongated helmet.
"According to the intel we were provided there weren't supposed to be life forms aboard." He seems irritated to see her.
"Good old Republic intel, still living up to its reputation."
The other clone approaches, he rips open the metal box in his hands and yanks out the core as if the casing was made of thick flimsy and nothing more, "I've got the thing, time to go!"
She watches, dumbstruck for a moment as her ticket out starts to head for the gaping maw that used to be a door, "Wait, you're taking the old database?" The two of them stop and turn, "It's not complete! It's missing pieces of the coordinates!" Firefek she didn't want to sound desperate but she was.
"Likely story-" The big one chuckles.
"I was trying to steal it too, I almost got all of it before my crew turned on me!"
"A mercenary or a pirate? No matter, I trust you even less now."
She had never wanted to punch anyone's face as hard as she wanted to punch his, "Check the core Goggles, I swear to you! It's missing pieces!" He hesitates and in that baited pause she knows she has him, "Please, just let me out and drop me off wherever you dock next. You can have my data chip. No harm, no foul, just get me out."
The one with the goggles glares at her, the yellow tinted transparisteel of his visor snapping downl before he turns to the bigger man. Klaxons ring all around as he scans the core with a handheld device, but it's taking up time they do not have.
The two clones share a look, silently deciding her fate.
The bigger one caves first, "Aww c'mon Tech, we can't leave her! You saw what's on this ship, she'll be a goner on some mining planet!"
"Under normal circumstances I might agree but she's caged for a purpose, and I'm disinclined to put any trust in her."
"How much damage can she do? She’s smaller than you are!"
Tech, the one in the goggles, sighs before he turns back around to face her, "If we spring you, you play by our rules. You follow our orders, no complaints, no rebuttals and if you put one toe out of line-"
"Out the airlock, understood." She nods furiously, hands pressed against the panel as she watches Tech short out the electron wall holding her hostage, the panel shudders and then it spews sparks on to the ground as the red fades and she's finally able to step through.
"Lets go shortie!"
"Wait, let me just grab-" She scrambles to the other side of the wall, trying to pull at something from the top of a shelf. The bigger clone reaches over and tosses the crate to the floor. She throws open the top and snatches out a bantha leather bag and a helmet.
"Run!"
Tech doesn't have to tell her twice, the three of them bolt out of the door and into the corridor, the lights above flash in time with the klaxons. There is a low rumble that joins the hum of the hyperspace engine, as whatever security droids are on board begin to activate.
"Back to the ship, short stuff!"
The three of them book it down the darkened halls, ducking behind walls and crates as the first cluster of security droids pass through.
She tosses her bag across her shoulder, slinging it against one side of her hip, clipping it into place with snaps sewn into her jacket. They watch three more droids pass them by before she speaks again, "My name's Nox, by the way."
"Doesn't sound like a girl's name." The big one chuckles, so deep and rumbling it almost feels like a growl.
"Well it's the only name I've got. My parents named me a bit of a mouthful, Nox just works better."
"Clear." Tech calls out and they continue on their way heading to the service hangar where their ship hopefully was waiting for them.
"How'd you end up out here?" The big one asks, with every flash of light above them she can see more of the large scary face painted roughly on his helmet, lines thrown on haphazardly only to be scraped away by carbon scoring.
She is about to answer when she is shoved back into a corner by Tech. He slaps a hand over her mouth before she can yelp, the leather slightly singed, it smells of electricity and grease.
“Wait.”
"I'm getting tired of all this sneaking around, I say we blow our way outta here!" The big one growls.
"We’re almost there Wrecker, it would be pointless to try now."
She shoves Tech's Hand away, "Blow your way out of here, are you insane? With the amount of baby on board you'd blow us into the next dimension!"
There are a few beats of silence before both helmets turn towards her.
"Baby?" Wrecker repeats but is shushed by Tech.
"You don't mean baradium-"
"Bisulfate? I absolutely do! There were containers of the stuff in the holding bay."
"This Imperial ship is headed somewhere to mine thorilide?" He repeats, tone stressed over every syllable in the word ‘Imperial’.
"That or some unlucky planet is about to be wiped from existence."
"The location of the Republic thorilide mines have been kept under the utmost security for ages, not even the Jedi Council was ever advised of its location."
"Can’t say I blame them, I barely trust them with those glowy sticks of death." She murmurs, making lightsaber sounds with her mouth as Wrecker snickers.
"Stop that. Do you know where this ship was heading? Do you have a copy of the manifest?"
"What, your amazing Republic recce didn't get you that information shiny?" He glares back at her, brows pinching together behind the dark frames of his goggles, "Maker! Did those cloners take your sense of humor? Yes, I know where this ship is going."
"Bet Cid’s contact would pay more for that bit of info." Wrecker’s grin can be heard even through the plastoid of his helmet.
Tech meanwhile has typed something to a com on his wrist, "Hunter, there's been a complication."
"What kind of complication?"
"There is more on board this ship than just the republic database-"
"What do you mean?"
"This ship is a mining vessel, out to mine thorilide."
Tech’s wrist comm goes silent, just quiet static while the voice on the other line thinks, "Ordinance?"
Both clones look at her, she nods emphatically, "Ordinance, med supplies, if there was coaxium on board I wouldn't be surprised, this place is the motherlode."
"Quite a bit of supplies on board, it would seem."
The comm goes quiet again for a few moments, "We don't have time for this, it's only a matter of time before they realize that your cruiser is stolen. Grab what you went in for and leave."
Tech shakes his head, it's so tiny and quick that if she wasn't looking at him in that moment she would have missed it, "Where is it being kept?"
"Up, five or so floors unless I've miscounted."
"Tech, Wrecker, Get out of there, now!" The voice on the other end grows more and more irritable as they stand around in silence.
"We'll be out as soon as possible." Tech replies curtly as he cuts the comm. He makes it sound so easy like they were stopping by the nearest market to pick up fruit, instead of about to hijack high quality explosives from Imperial custody, "Lead the way."
"What? Just like that?"
"Are there, or are there not these items on board?"
"Yes."
"You swear?" Wrecker leans in close, hovering over her.
"Yeah."
Tech nods, "Vital signs are stable, no signs of heightened stress-"
"What if I'm just a really good liar?"
"You can try all you want my dear, but the data doesn't lie."
"Does he do this to you too? I'm finding it a bit creepy-" She asks Wrecker as her eyebrow raises.
"You get used to it."
"Weird, so weird…" she mutters to herself as she turns and peeks around the corner. She looks around for anything that is familiar, when she sees a maintenance lift at the very end of the hall to the right. She motions them forward, and silently they sneak their way closer to the lift. She turns her attention to her side as she digs in her bag, her fingers grasp at the odd collection of junk in her pockets until her hand finally wraps around the cool metal of her code cylinder and she can finally stop holding her breath.
Tech's hand on her shoulder pulls her back to the task on hand as he drags her back a few steps. The catwalk above them from here to the lift is no more than a shoddy looking set of grates that creak as a group of security droids march along their patrol, oblivious to the three of them below.
“The maintenance lift?" Tech sniffs as they come to a stop at its doors. He raises hand to push his goggles back into place, "Perhaps you have failed to notice but none of us are maintenance droids, the moment you try to access that panel they will -”
“They’ll what?” She asks as she jams the cylinder into the port, the lift clicks open silently and she steps inside.
“The alarms-”
“What alarms? According to this," she snaps her code cylinder from the panel and drops it back into her bag, lost again to the chaos of the random junk held within, "I'm a maintenance droid doing routine inspections. How stupid do you think I am?”
"Hey hey, this one's pretty smart huh Tech?!" Wrecker is thrilled.
"Pirate." She reminds, "You don't see many my age that aren't intelligent and I'll give you one guess as to why."
The doors silently click open and before they can step out a team of at least half a dozen well armed sentry droids roll past.
They all leap from the inside of the lift and fall into a crouch behind a stack of supply crates. They wait for a few moments before Tech quickly peeks over, "They don't seem to have spotted us."
"Fuck, there weren't this many when we tried this the first time." She swears a few more times under her breath.
"We should do this my way." Wrecker offers.
"What's that mean, what does he mean?!" Nox looks nervously over to Tech, "He doesn't mean-?"
"Explosives and violence? He absolutely does," Tech sighs, “ and I'm afraid we are running low on options and even lower on time. Wrecker, what does your ordinance look like?"
“But you said I couldn't bring any?”
“Yes, and when was the last time you actually listened?”
Wrecker, the fun if not absolutely homicidal one, pulls out a couple of detonators, a roll of plastic tape, a half dozen hand grenades and three droid poppers.
“Great, nice to know you could have turned us into a small sun if I hadn't told you about the baby on board.”
"Everything save for the poppers is far too dangerous to use around those crates." Tech hisses, "Any more of those brilliant pirate ideas floating around in your head?"
She chews on her lip for a moment, wracking her brain for anything else that might be useful as she ignores Tech's sarcastic tone. Apart from the crates on this floor littered with treasure, there didn't seem to be anything of any use...except for the busted water filter. “How big of a distraction do you think it would take to get all those sentries away from the haul?”
“It would need to be something quite large or destructive enough to threaten the integrity of the ship.”
“The water filtration system on board is completely calcified, I don't think it was ever fixed since there are only droids on board. If you could flood that with enough pressure the entire pipe should burst-”
“And flood the entire floor, along with the engine room, that might just do it.” He’s on his data pad before the words are even out of his mouth, he scans the room all around and matches it with the wireframe schematics on his screen. He stalks his way backwards until he finds the panel he is looking for. He pops it open easily and then begins to slice into the mainframe of the ship, “On my count, take Wrecker to wherever the baby is, let him handle it. You get your hands on as much of the medical supplies as you can, the security onboard is a little tighter than I would have preferred so I will have to stay here and continue to flood the filter.”
“Oh, easy.”
“Think you can handle all that tiny?” Wrecker’s thundering chuckle threatens to give away their location even with the steady moan of the alarms overhead.
She grins, Wrecker is back to being the fun one, “Try and keep up.”
There is a sound of roaring water all around them as tech funnels every liquid on the ship into the filter, then a sound like an explosion a couple of feet below them rocks the ship like a lightning strike.
The sound of the alarm overhead changes as every droid on the floor turns away and heads to a lowering platform, all instructed to assist with the burst pipe.
“That’s our cue!”
She shoves Wrecker forward playfully before they both break into a sprint toward the storage rooms where their bounty is being held. She points to one of the rooms as they approach, "This one's your big boy!"
The door is sealed shut, but not for long. Wrecker doesn't slow, instead he hunches low, bringing his shoulders down and tucking his chin into the collar of his armor before he barrels straight through, punching a hole through the doors with enough force to make even her teeth rattle.
She dips into the storage room across the hall, thanking the stars that her haul wasn't locked away like his was. She rips open any crate within arms reach, tossing open the tops and letting them scatter around the room wherever they land. She snatches bacta patches and hypos by the handful and packs the crate as full as she can, slamming her entire body weight against it to get it to close. She drags it out into the hall, placing it by the door before she bolts into the room right beside the one Wrecker is standing in.
Wrecker watches her disappear into the room, the four small crates of explosives tucked carefully under his arms, “Wait, where are you-”
His question is answered as another crate hits the floor beside him. She comes running out of the room, grabbing this second crate by the handle and yanking it along, “Perfect! Not a single explosion! Love that for me!”
Wrecker bends down to offer her a hand but she has already snatched up the first trunk and is flying down the hall with them. She's faster than Wrecker would have believed she would be capable of with the two crates almost her height. She almost trips over herself as she stops and with a swift kick, the second crate lands at Tech's feet, “Come on 20/20, cut her loose, let's go!”
“What’s in that- I specifically ordered you to only carry medical supplies.”
“Yeah well, it sounds like you are used to not being listened to so, ship. Now!”
Wrecker races past, hopping off of the side and down to the level below, the halls are empty as all hands are called to help with the floor that is flooding.
Nox peeks over the side, she watches as Wrecker sets the small boxes of baby down beside him, "Toss your crate!" He calls up. She nods and yanks the crates handle, flipping it up and off of the edge with a nudge from Tech.
She helps him in turn, as they gingerly haul the crate full of ordinance over the edge before tossing it below.
Wrecker sets the crates to one side before turning back to catch Nox, but she's already climbing down. Her fingers dig into spots on the wall where she should not be able to have any grip. She finds her own way down and with a little hop, lands right beside Wrecker as Tech lands beside her. The clang of his boots echoes down the empty hallway. "We'll need to make our way through the flooded floor of the ship in order to get back to the hangar." Tech types away at his data pad again before picking up the side of his crate.
Nox follows close beside the two clones, tossing the crate up onto her back to avoid making any unnecessary scraping sounds as they get closer to the flooded area, the sound of pouring water gets louder and louder with every floor. The next floor they walk through has the water barely deep enough to wash over the toes of their boots, but it rises rapidly after that. By the time they are on the same floor as the hangar, the water has risen up to their knees and Nox has a harder time trying to distract her mind from where all of this stagnant water has been hiding this whole time.
“Holding out ok over there tiny?” Wrecker chuckles.
She turns to answer, when everything becomes...not alright. Her next step slips out from under her and she goes flying forward, crashing face first into the dark disgusting water, the crate on her back keeping her under the surface as she struggles to pull herself back up to standing.
A hand at the back of her collar pulls her back up into fresh air, slimy water pours from her mouth and nose as she gags. She doesn't need to clear the water from her eyes to know what the dark figures that are starting to line the hallway are. Tech and Wrecker are on either side of her, blasters raised as the sentry droids file in.
“I'm hoping you can fight better than you can swim.” Tech calls over as Wrecker leaps over them both and charges straight into one of the sentries. Tech keeps a few of the others at bay, clipping them with bright bolts from his twin deecees, but it's not enough. She rubs the slime from her face and charges right behind Wrecker, using her entire body to check a droid in her path, she grabs the blaster from its hands as it goes tumbling backwards and into the water. Techs shots ring out around her as he stays behind, watching over the crates behind him. Wrecker tears through any droids that get within reach, sparks flying on to the water before they sizzle and die. She concentrates her fire on any droids Tech misses until the hall is clear.
"There'll be a second platoon on their way, we better get a move on." Tech calls back to them, she tosses the almost empty blaster into the water beside her.
"Are you always just, you know?" She makes growling and ripping sounds at Wrecker.
He laughs, "Not often enough."
She stifles her laughter behind her hand as she walks back to where Tech is to retrieve the case of medical supplies, for a brief moment the last couple of days are forgotten and even the slime on her skin is the last thing on her mind. For a brief moment she was back with her men, waiting for that score of a lifetime, but when she grabs the handle of the crate and looks back it’s the clone armor that reminds her she is in fact alone. The sudden quiet of sadness doesnt last long as the doors behind them open and a new series of drods begin their march towards them.
“Incoming!”

You’re my Gofer!

Summary: One shot sequel to crystal clear.
Takemichi’s brain short circuited at the sight that greeted his eyes.
When Akashi mentioned to him yesterday that he should be prepared, he wasn’t expecting this kind of surprise.
Characters: Takemichi H. Draken R. & Senju K.
Takemichi swallowed thickly and clenched his fists as he watched the growing tension between Draken, Akashi and Senju.
While he understood and appreciated Draken’s overprotectiveness and not wanting to involve him in the world of delinquency again, Takemichi also realized that joining the Brahman will make him reached his goal faster of defeating Mikey and preventing him of going down the path of the terrible ending that was waiting for him in the future.
He can’t be indecisive now.
‘If I don’t make any decisions now, then nothing will change!’ Takemichi thought firmly.
“Draken-kun. I’ll join Brahman!” He announced resolutely.
“Huh?!” Draken looked taken aback by his decision.
Draken just took a one look at his face and he knew that he can’t really stop Takemichi no matter what he does. He’s just as stubborn as Mikey. Or even more so. This was what he actually fears when Takemichi knew everything. Takemichi will join the fray regardless if its dangerous or not. He knew that Takemichi was an adult that can make his own decisions but fuck, he didn’t want him to risk his life for Mikey or anyone of them ever again.
There’s a great future waiting for him back there but he still chose to go back here into the past to fix everything. Again. He just hoped that it’ll be all worth it in the end.
“Draken… As much as Brahman wants to stop Kantou Manji Gang…”
Akashi’s voice cut off his racing thoughts and looked pensively on the ground. “There’s no way we want to fight Mikey.”
“That’s why we need both of you, the very people whom Mikey trusts. Facing him without getting in a fight would be for the best. Please understand.” Akashi replied seriously.
Draken pondered over his words.
The pelting of the raindrops from the above had ceased and the sky grew clearer afterwards. It didn’t go unnoticed by Senju who moved his umbrella from the side and stared up at the sky.
“Oh, it stopped raining.” There was a certain look into his eyes as he stared up at the small puffs of white clouds that’s beginning to show itself. Funny, how the sky grew clearer and the weather became calmer after Takemichi had accepted their offer of joining their gang.
Was he a secret weather magician too? Takemichi could spread his sunshine and brightness even to the gray clouds beyond them. A slight curved of his lips turned upwards at the mere thought.
Draken sighed in defeat as he looked over at Takemichi’s determined face. “Well, that’s Takemitchy for ya. Keep in mind that the only reason we’re cooperating with Brahman is because of our aligning goals.” He said firmly.
“…Got it.” Takemichi replied.
“Don’t you forget about that. Welcome to Brahman, Takemitchy.” Draken smiled at him and offered his hand in front of him.
Takemichi took his hand, enveloping it in a gentle yet firm handshake. “I will definitely bring Mikey back!”
Draken could feel the callouses on his hands, a sign of the hardships that he already went through in saving all of them. And yet he could also sensed the warm sincerity beneath them, engulfing him in a state of reassurance and trust. He may have to risk again in putting of his faith in Takemichi. And that’s the one thing that he won’t hesitate in doing so now.
If there’s one thing that Takemichi’s well known of, it’s his keeping and fulfilling his promises to them and not giving up.
Draken shook back his hand firmly and smiled warmly at him. This was one of the rarest times when he can put his walls down and expressed what he actually felt for the other.
“Alrighty! I’ve decided.”
Senju’s sudden cheerful voice broke the fragile moment between the two of them and Draken resisted the urge to twitch his eyes and sigh in annoyance.
What a great timing.
Takemichi pulled his hand away from Draken and turned around, seeing an offered umbrella to his direction by Senju. He casually accepted it with a bewildered expression on his face.
“An umbrella?” He blinked a few times.
“From now on… You’re my gofer!” Senju announced happily.
“Huh?” Takemichi looked taken aback, but he wasn’t sure if it’s from Senju’s words or the cheerful expression on his face. It was strange seeing the happy look and cheerful smile painted on his face since his usual default of facial expression was mostly blank and serious. But he couldn’t deny that it made his seraphic features softer and younger. And he couldn’t tear his eyes away from him.
Senju looked like a beautiful, fallen angel from the sky.
Senju leaned closer with that everlasting smile still present on his face. “Let’s meet tomorrow, 3PM at Harajuku!”
Takemichi tried so hard not to blush at his proximity and the cuteness that was laid out in front of him. What’s with Senju and the other members of their gang invading his personal space?!
“Eh? Wait—”
“Senju’s interested in you, Hanagaki!” Akashi cut him off cheerily.
What. Takemichi’s line of thought came into a screeching halt.
“Just be prepared.” Akashi flashed him a smirk before he waved goodbye to him and Draken.
‘What does that mean?!’Takemichi thought frantically as he could only watched Akashi leave and Senju walking beside him with a spring to his steps.
The Next Day, 3PM Harajuku…
Takemichi tried to be punctual this time even though he wasn’t the exact model employee back at the DVD shop that he was working for back then. He simply didn’t want to shatter any good impression and standing that he currently had with Brahman now especially with their leader since Akashi said that Senju was interested in him. Which still weirded him out. Yet it brought a warm feeling spreading through his chest. And he didn’t even know the reason why he was feeling like that in the first place.
Nevertheless, he took Akashi’s words with a grain of salt and didn’t delved deeper on it further. Maybe Senju was always like that when he found something that caught his eye or when his goals are actually met. Their leader’s unpredictability still caught him off guard sometimes. It reminded him of Mikey.
At the mere thought of the blond, Takemichi’s mood went pensive for a bit before he fought it back with a resolute determination. Of course, he was firm in his decision to save him regardless of what method he had to undertake to achieve it. If he had to join the Brahman to reached that goal faster then so be it. He’s ready for any consequences that he needed to face if necessary.
“Sorry to keep you waiting, Hanagaki!”
A voice cut off his wandering thoughts and the noise among the crowd that made him paused and turned around to the source of it.
Takemichi’s brain short circuited at the sight that greeted his eyes.
When Akashi mentioned to him yesterday that he should be prepared, he wasn’t expecting this kind of surprise.
“Let’s go.”
A young lady dressed in a female school uniform stated calmly and looked casually at him like everything wasn’t out of the ordinary.
But it isn’t.
This was Senju.
Dressed in female clothes.
Senju.
Who is now a she instead of a he.
Female clothes and features.
And had a nice rack.
Takemichi internally screamed at himself. Now this wasn’t the time to be thinking like that! There was a right time to admire the beauty in front of him. And now isn’t the right time to do it. Since when did Senju became a woman?! His brain felt like melting along with his common sense.
“Huh? Who?” Takemichi replied intelligently as he gaped at Senju’s transformed existence in front of him.
Senju just stared at him blankly before she raised a hand to cover her mouth and stifled her giggles. “Hanagaki you never failed to amuse me sometimes.”
“Eh? But h-how…?” Takemichi stammered.
“Did you hit your head or something Hanagaki? I told you yesterday to meet me here at 3pm right?” Senju answered playfully as she now tugged on his arm and pulled him along the bustling crowd of the city.
Takemichi let him get swept away by Senju’s hold and actions, his mind was still racing with rapid thoughts at this newfound discovery that made him have an internal midlife crisis. He wanted to ask so many things… but for now he just let her be as he was also tantalized by her rare sunny disposition and her ethereal features in front of him.
Of course, Senju knew the reason why Takemichi was being confused and having a meltdown in front of him. But she chose to blatantly ignored it and willfully play the ruthless card of feigned innocence. She was having fun of making him bewildered and flustered.
And she also found it cute and adorable anyway.
This was going to be an interesting day ahead.
(A/N: I own nothing from this franchise except this weird fic of mine. Chapter 215 watered my crops and extended my lifespan because of these things: Inupi, Draken and Takemichi being shirtless and exposing their toned bodies, Draken going feral to protect Takemichi, Takemichi’s ever growing character development and backbone, Senju acting like Mikey and growing fond of our crybaby hero and lastly the infamous gender reveal party at the last panel. Ken plays with us like a damn fiddle with that bomb at the last panel of chapter 215 in the manga. The whole fandom is shook and is now rioting with speedy theories and ideas lmao. Well from my end, it’s fine if Senju is a guy or a gal since the gender is not my measurement of an interest to a character anyway. But it’ll be intriguing if Senju turned out to be a female and a leader of a gang since we all know that it’s mostly a male dominated territory in the franchise. And we’ll probably get another girlboss like Yuzuha as a bonus. Who knows? Maybe Ken will drop us another mind-blowing twist at the next chapter so I’m still not fully onboard with Senju being a 100% gal. But for the sake of this fic and for fun purposes, let’s assume that Senju is a complete female here and she’s having the time of her life making our crybaby hero like this: Takemichi.exe has stopped working. Also, if Mikey learned about this, he’ll be feral and he would raise some hell to prevent them from stealing his dear Takemitchy. So, Mikey you need to step up your game and appear in the future chapters so Takemichi doesn’t end up with one of his harems lol. Reviews are amusing. So, let me hear them from you.)

I brought a theory from Reddit.
Disclaimer:
I am here to not disrespect the author by any means. I simply have questions as a person who is reading it and pointed out which parts are confusing. It’s up to you to believe this theory or not.
What’s more, reborn Ymir will be in the same position as 2000 years ago – the Founding Titan's shifter. BUT, this time she's free. Therefore, once she pops out and gets her abilities back, she can do whatever she wants with them. She no longer needs to be commanded by royals, which gives her the ideal opportunity to conclude everything. [How does Eren know that an infant can assist him in such an endeavour?]
Well...Ymir was definitely not free, but Ymir wasn’t born with her abilities. She got them because of hallucigenia attached to her back when she fell into that water in the tree. She wasn’t born special.
Another point. How Ymir being born with titan powers will stop the cycle of hatred?
Zeke’s death was a necessary distraction, deliberately included by Isayama to divert our attention. It tricked us into thinking that the baby inheriting Zeke’s titan is relevant as it would help Eren resume the Rumbling. But that’s not the case. The child will indeed inherit the Beast but what’s important here is the baby inheriting the Founder (what Isayama tried to hide behind Zeke’s death). Also, his death served the purpose of stopping the Rumbling as it is not needed anymore. Most of the world's population is already massacred. [What was the point of Zeke dying? Will the baby inherit the Beast Titan?]
Hm...Yeah, Zeke’s death indeed helped to stop the rumbling, because Eren could reach the Paths because of him and killing him stopped the whole process, but why would Isayama make such a distraction at the last third chapter of the whole manga? Shouldn’t he kill Zeke before, so Eren and Historia’s plan would work and it had more screen time?
“In a vision, Eren saw that Ymir will be reborn after his death. He told Historia that he has to figure out which random child will inherit the Founder”. [“What would you think… about me having a child?”]
Which vision? Ch.1 or after kissing Historia’s hand? Ch.1 vision was Eren and Mikasa’s shared dream and we still don’t know what exactly Eren saw while kissing Historia’s hand.
Of course it’s safe to say that it was his future memories, but it yet has to be revealed.
Random child. How Eren can predict that the baby will be Historia’s? Does he know how many pregnant women are there on Paradise? Okay, let’s say that it’s FT and Paths magic, but can he control which child will be born with Founder’s powers?
It would also explain why Historia didn't appear in Ch. 138 – if Isayama showed the baby coming out seconds after Mikasa decapitated Eren then it would’ve been obvious what’s going on.[“What would you think… about me having a child?”]
Chapters are 45 pages long. Why Isayama didn’t cut out some panels and didn’t put it here? Why not to show it right after the kiss page? Distraction?
Moreover, Ymir is smiling at Eren and Mikasa not simply because she saw affection. Yes, she does care about bonds but another thing could be that Eren's plan downed on her – she connected the dots and figured out that it's now her turn to contribute and complete the mission Eren wordlessly gave her. I believe next chapter will start with her disappearing from inside the Founder's mouth and switch to her being born. [“What would you think… about me having a child?”]
Okay! I agree with the part that Ymir smiled at Mikasa and Eren because of the affection they showed to each other and the part that she will contribute to the “mission”.
They showed affection to each other. Why would Eren show affection to Mikasa if he is having a child with the woman he loves?
What about the hallucigenia? Will it still stay there or disappear with her?
Immediately after she cries for the first time, all Eldians will perhaps be summoned in Paths, where Eren will be waiting. To their surprise, he will announce the end of the Titan Age. Then, Ymir will make the command and Paths will begin collapsing. Eren will hold her in his arms as all traces of titans disappear. "You're free." will collectively be directed to Ymir and all of her Subjects. [What will happen after she is reborn?]
Hold on. Can the power of Founder be shared between two people? Is it like One for All? If Ymir was born with FT, doesn’t that mean that Eren no longer has FT, AT and WHT? How Ymir can summon them? She is an infant. She doesn’t have a proper consciousness to purposely summon everyone into Paths. Where AT and WHT will go? To random Eldian children or Ymir?
It has always been suspicious as to why Eren teased Zeke about them not reaching "the part where he eats their old man". It's strange that Grisha gave Eren the power of the titans when beforehand he begged Zeke to stop him. The only logical thing would be that Eren showed him what I described above: the resolution. [What did Eren show Grisha?]
Wait. Why would Grisha be this heartbroken and scared if Eren showed him the resolution? He doesn’t look like crying from happiness. Sure, he was crying because he killed children and others, but why would he look at Zeke like that? He was in literal pain.

What used to be nonsensical before is now super logical. Grisha and Kruger were not helping the Alliance because Armin’s TnJ (talk no jutsu) worked. They aided them because beforehand Eren revealed the truth of what is to come and that they will NEED to kill him in order for Historia’s baby to inherit the Founder. Basically, they didn't feel sympathy for Marley all of a sudden – instead, they were helping Eren in liberating Eldians from titans. [Why did Grisha and Kruger help the Alliance? Why did Ymir revive them if they were going to go against Eren?]
Well...Besides Grisha and Kruger, Marcel, Ymir, Mr. Xavier, Porco and Bertholdt were there. Did they want to help Eren too?

As it has been confirmed by Isayama's notes on Ch. 138, it’s not an AU. So we should probably forget about time loops. It's a dream. Eren entered it (through Paths, duh) as he wanted to convince Mikasa to behead him as fast as possible as they have no time left. Him joining her is why Aaron Yogurt dream Eren got shifter marks on his face and why in Ch. 1, he saw this particular moment. [What’s up with Mikasa’s hallucinations?]
Oh! “A long dream” topic again. I went to the link author put and this is what I see (see below).
Okay, let’s say that he entered it via Paths, but why not to straightforwardly say that? Why to create a dream where they live happily? Why to show this hug, “I want to live with you for the rest of my 4 years”?
I don’t really like the time loop concept myself, because I don’t like time travel stuff, but why then he saw the exact same dream in ch.1? Something is not clicking.

The former will likely return to being humans. There’s no reason for them to disappear as they’re material beings that exist in the physical world – what will be removed is just titanization. Plus, with this, Eren will keep his promise of his friends living long lives. Though, this is something I cannot predict properly and just speculation. The latter will be free from the Curse of Ymir (good luck, Reiner, no dying for you). [What will happen to the titanized Eldians and titan shifters?]
Fully agree! No debate.
There's no question really. I feel like it should be self-explanatory after everything discussed so far. The farmer being Ymir's father would be a more shocking twist than Eren being the dad. [Is it sure that Eren is the father?]
Why wouldn’t Isayama add a plot twist into his story? It’s not hard to do. But Isayama’s plot twists work because he visually foreshadows it or uses characters’ dialogues. He already has showed us farmer. Why he is here? For cover up? Why would Isayama put these words if farmer is unnecessary? Why not to add more information?

To stop the cycle of violence and hate once and for all. If Eren removed titan powers without the Rumbling, most people (especially Marleyans) would’ve still despised Eldians and they would've just been defenseless. So Eren wanted to prevent that. [Why did the Rumbling have to occur?]
I agree with this. Rumbling was a cause for people to work and stop fighting each other as I said here. Rumbling plan was very risky, but it was unavoidable, because Marley is way more advanced and Paradise would terribly lose. Good point!
But why would Historia, who has decided to live for herself agree with Eren’s plan? How would she benefit from it? Okay, she and Historia are in love, but why would she want the person she loves to become a mass murderer? Why she couldn’t stop him? Why she was crying when he told his plan? She is a royal blood after all too! They could come up with another plan which wouldn’t involving Zeke.
I assume it would just die/disappear/go back to the tree it emerged from. [What about hallucigenia?]
Where’s that tree? How it will get there?
In conclusion, the theory isn’t bad, but it would work if Historia and Eren had more set up, the importance of Zeke would be explored a little more here and ch.138 didn’t have clear symbolism between Eren and Mikasa. There’re some holes, but the author gave some good points, which is truly appreciated!

DBS COLORING BOOK CHAPTER 74 REVIEW
*spoilers* I liked this chapter in isolation.
*spoilery spoilers* I dislike this chapter when comparing it to other chapters.
Here's the battle Vegeta fans have been waiting for...! (Glad I lowered my greatly expectations)
First, let's talk about use of panels real quick. When there is action, Toyo has done better and uses about 6 panels max to convey the fight. But when there is dialogue, he uses too many panels. Like 7 to 9 panels on one page. That is too much for dialogue. And he has pointless reaction shots often.
It begins with the axolotl inspired Sugarians leaving their fishbowl homes through cleaning-tube roadways. I like their aquarium-like city and their buildings.
And here we are on page 2 with the Toyotaro dialogue. 😒 How can I tell? Compare it to Dragon Ball and you can easily tell the difference between Toriyama's dialogue & Toyotaro's dialogue. (Toriyama has been more focused with working on the DBS movies. I highly doubt he contributes as much to the manga as some fans believe.)
Vegeta sounds like Mr. Satan when calling fusion and cloning "tricks" lol. And no, I doubt Vegeta's Forced Spirit Fission would work on Granolah. Granolah split himself in 2 with a technique. It is still all Granolah & he hasn't absorbed anyone. Forced Spirit Fission is useless here.
Granolah sure is chatty again after he kept saying how he really really wants to kill these Saiyans. Vegeta tells him he parted ways with Freeza and he is an enemy now, as to which Granolah laughs. Granolah thinks Vegeta is betraying Freeza to spare his own life. This just let's us know what kind of person Granolah is...
Granolah is a nonsensical idiot who doesn't know how to reason well & doesn't listen to truth because he assumes he is already right. I don't like ppl like him who refuse to grow mentally. I went from liking Granolah, to not caring about his bland personality, to disliking him. 😑
Oatmeel's input is pointless because he doesn't sway Granolah into believing the Saiyans may not be lying. He quickly gives up and becomes quiet. Vegeta informs Granolah that he was a child when Planet Cereal's ppl were killed and wasn't part of the attack. But he doesn't care and Paragus wants revenge against the royal family... I mean, Baby wants revenge on all Saiya... Granolah wants to kill all Saiyans.
Then we get Vegeta saying he will kill Granolah after barely talking to the guy who was willing to talk. I guess Vegeta just wants to fight and test his power instead of trying to redeem himself like earlier chapters implied and fans theorized. Throw that out the window.
He turns SSB Evolution & Hakai's large rocks around Granolah. But Granolah appears behind him and shows Vegeta true hakai. He elevates a big chunk of the ground & blows it up then the force pushes Vegeta to him and Granolah strikes him. Cool way to use the environment in battle.
Also, Granolah knows Hakai. He shows it off by using his own more powerful Hakai & suggests Vegeta's training with Beerus is lacking.
There is some cool looking art. Their fight moves from forest to river to lake. Interesting environment s for DB. Reminds me of the Cooler movie and the fights on Namek a bit.
This entire time, Vegeta is on the defensive and has to run. But, I find pages 16-21 silly.
Why is Vegeta swimming when he can fly through the water?! Swimming is slower & Granolah is firing fast ki blasts at him!
YOU: "But, Vegeta is swimming so Granolah can't detect his ki."
Granolah can see him! His right eye is supposed to see blood flow and stuff. He nearly hits him multiple times. And lets not forget he was sniping them long distance and his Goku in the neck and almost took him out. Why does Granolah need aim assist now? I'll tell ya why. To make Vegeta look more impressive than Goku by making Goku look like a poor fighter. And this was a Goku who was using Ultra Instinct and still got messed up by Granolah while Vegeta is just using SSB Evolution. Character sabotage... 😒
Back to my complaints about Vegeta swimming. The swimmin' would work in OG Dragon Ball but not here. It would work on Namek with Freeza who can't sense ki, but not here with Granolah who can sense ki (& maybe even god ki) & his eye can percieve all kinds of movements of the body.
And why does Vegeta momentarily pop up out the water then go hide back into it? Don't say its 'cause he needs to catch his breath. He aparently did training holding his breath while on the Heeter's ship, so he should be fine holding his breath. It was for a short period of time anyways. It just doesn't fit and is unnecessary in multiple ways.
Vegeta Hakai's Granolah's big blast to escape it and it blows him out of the water. Interesting kinda... Until you realize that Vegeta's training that we were shown was lame. He just Hakai'd logs & rocks! It should've shown him trying to Hakai ki blasts from Beerus. Make his training look cool darn it!
Chapter 70 Established that Hakai has changed. It no longer is just erasing things from existence in different ways. It has to have a *boom* explosion to it. So when Beerus Hakai'd Zamasu in chapter 19, there should've been an explosion instead of turning him into sand? So, now whenever the Hakai is used, there will always be an explosion...? I don't like how Toyo is quick to change what he set up just for his convenience...
Granolah brags about himself then Vegeta brags about himself-...! That's why I dislike Granolah! He's just like Vegeta! Maybe if I stop thinking of Granolah as a "good guy" then he will be cooler? I did like evil Vegeta as an evil character. We were supposed to hate him. So, if I imagine Granolah as an evil Vegeta... It worked! Granolah's unappealing attitude works perfectly if you view him as an evil enemy! (Still kinda preachy tho)
VEGETA: "But I'm still going to win."
Vegeta fans rejoice! Your prayers have been answered by the great Zalama! Vegeta announced victory...! Wait... I've seen this before... Yo... Vegeta fans, prepare for Vegeta to be defeated just in case. He has a record of announcing victory then ultimately losing. Don't get your hopes up too high.

Lol Granolah disses Vegeta's ego 👌. But Granolah is unknowingly talking about himself too XD. Dummies. Vegeta mocks him by calling him "Mr. Strongest" & Granolah has nothing to day. Granolah can dish it out but can't take it.
Goku wakes up and sees Vegeta fighting Granolah. Who cares? How are you gonna be caught off gaurd in a form that reacts on its own? Go back to sleep. I'm not mad at you, Goku. I'm just disappointed.
Vegeta fires a barrage of ki at Granolah and Granolah Hakai's them. Then Vegeta fools Ganolah into destroying an ancient city of the Cerelians.
VEGETA: "I can tell, you know... That you only recently acquired this absurd strength."
GRANOLAH: "How? How can you tell?"
VEGETA: "Thank you for confirming."
There's the Granolah we know. Quick to give out valuable info. Also, this is to make Vegeta appear "smarter" & a "better fighter" than Goku. Realistically, a master martial artist like Goku would be first to notice that Granolah recently acquired this kind of power. But, Goku is being dumbed down for Vegeta's sake.
VEGETA: "Need I repeat myself...? You may be stronger but... there's no gaurantee that I'll lose to you!" *attempts to break Granolah's leg*
So says the guy who always loses unless the opponent is weaker than him. But, he even lost to weaker opponents on Earth before, so....
Vegeta fans calm down, calm down. This is basic Vegeta dribble. Let's be real. When has Vegeta ever defeated an opponent that was stronger than himself? Never. When has Vegeta become stronger than his opponent and defeat them because they're weaker than him now? Always. Does Vegeta ever win when he is too cocky? Nope. This is to hype y'all up. Don't be mad if he loses. Y'all know this routine. The arc ain't even over so the chances of him winning are low.
Now let's examine Vegeta's fight in comparison to Goku's fight.
Goku goes through all his forms & uses Ultra Instinct in base, SSJ, SSG, SSB, & then goes silver haired UI when fighting Granolah. Then, he loses in every form. Vegeta goes straight to Blue Evolution and only seriously gets hurt once.
Goku keeps getting hit despite having a technique that is all about evasion. Vegeta gets hit far less & doesn't have Ultra Instinct.
Goku was struggling to fight a clone that was half the power of Granolah. Vegeta fights Granolah at his full power and struggles less.
Goku complains about his training and how he is struggling using his technique. Vegeta who had less time with Hakai training isn't complaining about struggling with Hakai.
Goku far surpassed Vegeta in the Moro arc, yet they are crippling Goku to let Vegeta catch up & make him look better. Vegeta has literally gotten a handout that he didnt have to work hard for in order to catch up with Goku... This chapter is fine when isolated and you aren't thinking about any other previous chapter. But, it is a convoluted mess when you look back at the previous chapters, the piss poor storytelling, & Vegeta's poor Hakai training that leads up to this chapter.

Where'd that "heroic" Vegeta and that "redemption" stuff go? Its as if Toyotaro decided he should stop tying to make Vegeta the hero & main character instead of Goku being the main. (Thank God.)
But... Vegeta says that he loves fights that are unpredictable?? That I disagree completely with. Vegeta wants fights to go in his favor through all of DBZ and will throw a fit when it doesn't.
In RoF: it was going in his favor so he loved it.
Destroyer Tournament arc: he didn't like that things didn't go his way in the end.
Future Trunks arc: he was upset when losing to Black, but loved it when he thought he was going to win.
ToP: angry when everyone else surpassed him, happy when he gained an upperhand, upset when he lost the upperhand.
Moro arc: Vegeta is upset that Moro is stronger but even more upset that Goku is stronger than him. When he is stronger than Moro he is loving it. Then when he loses the advantage, he is upset.
Vegeta doesn't love unpredictable fights, Goku does! Vegeta loves predictable fights in his favor.
Granolah asks how many lives were sacrificed for Vegeta's carnage. Vegeta doesn't answer. Why? Because its best to ignore the fact that he has killed billions of ppl so that Vegeta fans can ignore his bad actions (Yet many say that Vegeta has developed so much without acknowledging his terrible past). Can't have Vegeta looking like a bad guy in this chapter, right?

Oh boy! Page 37 is more "Vegeta hype!" He doesn't care about strongest or second strongest ('cause he has never been 1st place) & he basically explains Dragon Ball to us.
Roshi already taught Goku & Krillin that there will always be somebody stronger, so they need to keep reaching higher and higher.
If Vegeta is stronger than he was a few minutes ago, would that mean the same for Goku when he was fighting? Why did he perform so poorly? I wonder... 🤔
Granolah jabs Vegeta in the stomach, but Vegeta manages to slow it down (how come Goku using Ultra Instinct couldn't do that?). And cool. Blood. Anime has better writing and cool character development/moments. The manga has blood... Well, I guess blood is cooler to some ppl.
Vegeta is looking like Goku in the ToP before he attained UI. He has his head down & all. Vegeta just isn't talking about hownl much he sucks. Why does Goku keep insulting himself? N-nevermind. This is about Vegeta who keeps complimenting himself.
Why did Granolah become scared of Vegeta suddenly? Wouldn't he just see him as a mad dog and use his amazing power to put Vegeta down before he can do anything? He hates them so much, but keeps letting them live.
Uh oh... Vegeta doesn't like protecting and saving? BuT I tHoUgHt hE wAs a hErO! Where is his development going?? Ya mean the real development he had in the anime or the pseudo development in the manga?
But even after saying all that... I prefer manga Vegeta to be like this instead of a wannabe hero. Wannabe hero doesn't fit. This feels like Vegeta is in character again. I like this. I was just criticizing how Vegeta was written in past chapters in comparison to this one. A more chill Vegeta who loves battles? This is what I've wanted from DBS manga Vegeta for a long time!
Oh snap! Vegeta's transforming? I wonder what it will look like (thanks for the warning from the leaks 👍). Oil... Why are you even in this chapter? We don't care about you right now & you're boring without Maki. Goku says it ain't "any old god ki."
I wonder how Goku never knew about this new form if he and Vegeta trained on Beerus Planet together. Ya think he would've sensed and saw it & even wanted to fight against it.
So is this new form a spur of the moment thing? So Vegeta has a new form that he never trained... And he asks if Granolah has been training his new power on page 34... Sounds hypocritical of Vegeta, or he is being thrown a bone to make him look capable. Is Vegeta gonna pull a Golden Freeza by not training this new form? Or maybe a UI Goku at the ToP and lose the form?
Page 43, Granolah shoots tiny ki blasts at Vegeta's tower of flaming ki and he is surprised it did nothing. Why not try again but this time use that one big blast instead. No? Gonna let the guy of the race you hate finish transforming? Just gonna be scared and shocked to make Vegeta look impressive? Ok.
Pages 41, 44, & 45
Oh! Here it is! The new form...! Aaaand I still don't like it. Also, he healed up like Goku did last chapter too. Odd. Why does transforming heal them now? Didn't before.
No build up to make the form more cool, it's just
"Here, Vegeta. Goku has one more form than you do & he has mastered UI, so we can't let you fall too far behind. So I just pulled this crap transformation fresh outa my butt and gave it to you."
Another undeserved handout. Can you please make Vegeta earn a new form in the manga? PLEASE?!
Vegeta looks like he is in his own UI Omen form (like how Vegeta fans begged for Vegeta to get for the longest time). Dark hair with sone lighter coloured higlights, light coloured pupils, new aura. But this is what I see...
SSJ3ROSÉ of DESTRUCTION INSTINCT OMEN (or just "SSJ-ChexMix" for short)
Looks like in the end, Vegeta needed to resort to his own Ultra Instinct equivalent!
Oh no... I criticized Vegeta's bad writing too much! I bet some Vegeta fans are gonna automatically assume that I hate him because I want him to be written better without plotholes! 😱
IN CONCLUSION:
This chapter is good when isolated on its own. But, this chapter is filled with inconsistencies when you look back at previous chapters. Overall, it's... a mixed bag that I barely like. It's just so retarded that Goku had to be dragged through the mud just for Vegeta to look better. That is insulting to Vegeta and it either shows how much he sucks or or how weak the writing for Vegeta is. But we got what we got...
Wanna know how to make Vegeta look good without making Goku look pathetic? Goku never uses MUI! Goku defeats Granolah's clone with SSB. Then, Granolah merges back with his clone & catches SSB Goku by surprise and knocks him out.
Then, the reason why Vegeta seems to be doing better is because Vegeta is using SSBE, unlike SSB Goku who was caught off guard. Why make the MUI form & Goku both look like trash just to give Vegeta his own Ultra (Destructive) Intinct? Is Vegeta really that trash?! 😓😴
I don't wanna see the Heeters anymore. My hype for them died, but maybe a later chapter can make me like them more. Idk.
Where is my homie, Moniato?! 🐌 (BEST CHARACTER OF THE ARC SO FAR!)
Oh yeah...I was supposed to complain about not seeing Freeza again like I do every chapter... Who cares at this point? If Granolah is stronger than Goku & Vegeta, what can Freeza do? Hide for 3 yrs and let Granolah die?
What are my predictions for next chapter? More Vegeta wanking of course. More gloating & looking down on Granolah too. A battle of overinflated egos. Bad dialogue and decent to good art. I'll probably find it mostly boring but I may be surprised (that could be a good or bad thing). Vegeta will appear to be winning before...
Vegeta gets defeated & certain Vegeta fans will rage & be annoying. Those ones will complain about how Vegeta always gets the short end of the deal (that's what he gets for being shorter than Bulma & 12 cm taller than Krillin). This one should happen imo based off of Goku's performance.
Vegeta's fight will get interrupted before the battle ends so that Vegeta fans don't get angry. Make Vegeta fans feel that Vegeta could've won and keep them grasping on to hope. (How manipulative.) This one is most likely to happen to "satisfy" all fans.
Vegeta will win and Vegeta fans will rejoice & some will be very annoying. Despite the fact that he had terrible training, was handed a new form just to stay relevant, and Goku had to underperform & UI had to be nerfed just to make Vegeta look good. This one may happen just to appease Vegeta fans. (That is the worst outcome imo.) If Vegeta gets "a win/a W" against a main villain, make sure his training looks impressive and he has some sort of connection to the main bad guy. That way the victory feels well deserved.
If the final enemy is Freeza, then Vegeta defeating Granolah isn't "a win" against a major villain. Granolah will just be a bump in the road. He's already set up to not be a "bad guy." In the end, the main bad guy will be either Freeza, Gas, 7-3, or someone. Vegeta fans shouldn't care if Vegeta wins or loses against Granolah. He isn't the "final boss."

the thing that's getting me about the whole "izuku sucks bc he doesn't care about villains" take is that, with the exception of dabi (who is actively trying to MURDER IZUKUS BEST FRIEND among others), izuku just,,,, doesn't know the villains' tragic backstories? like, he doesn't know the trauma that shiggy or toga or twice or spinner went thru. all he knows is that these ppl are responsible for the deaths of THOUSANDS of ppl and MANY heroes. 1/3
2/3. and its not like he's never been sympathetic to villains b4, yk? like, remember with gentle? where he saw that gentle was trying to save la brava and was peacefully turning himself in after losing? and izuku was like "yeah, we had a disagreement, but its fine" instead of "no he was trying to break in so I stopped him" or whatever. ig you could argue thats bc he didn't want the fest to be canceled, but I still hold that he understood what gentle was doing and played along.
3/3. idk it just really irks me that people forget that just bc WE know something, doesn't mean the CHARACTERS know. (and also, that just bc a character has an actually tragic, horrible, and traumatizing backstory doesn't excuse, you know, LITERAL MURDER???) I also just wish ppl would remember that the story isn't over and that we're in the middle of a scene where shit is still happening. like, just be fucking patient and wait for the story to unfold. THEN get mad if it doesnt work for you. jfc
okay but I'm glad you mentioned this cause it made me think about some panels from another recent chapter (and I'm sure someone has probably talked about this before, so I'm sorry if I'm highlighting Old News udndjdjdd)
(I'm on mobile so i have no idea how long this is, so i put the read more JUST TO BE SURE!)
sooooo, something that i really, reaaaally liked about bnha 286 was the moment in the vestige realm. when izuku morphs (transitions? teleports??? whatever) into this other dimension, the first thing he sees is all for one being his Creepy Controlling Self with shigaraki (as shown below)

and, when he sees that shiggy is resisting and fighting back, izuku's immediate response is to try and intervene to help shiggy

of course, as nana points out, the boy can't really do much with his body, but he was ready to give it his all anyway because he saw that shiggy needed help (and it didn't matter that they're on opposing sides. izuku moved with the intention of helping depsite the fact that he and shig were literally just fight each other a second before) and i just.... waaaaaah, this kid, you know?
so i wanted to point this out because, along with the example you given (and I'm sure there's more to be said about this but sudjsjjd), this makes me feel like izuku caring is a given. funneling that ability to sympathize into actually saving villains, though, does become a bit complicated when we consider the points you mentioned (like, having to keep a villain from killing those around them if that's what they're into didndjd; not having the prior knowledge needed to know why they're feeling what they are or what drives them to act as they do; as well as the balance needed to address the villain's needs and the consequences that are sure to follow whatever things they've done wrong).
here i am, getting scatterbrained again sjdndjd but yeah, i agree with you! like, on one hand, i think it absolutely makes sense to be upset that the league and other characters like them were/are neglected when they need(ed) help the most (though i think touya's situation will allow the narrative to begin highlighting how that issue exists and persists within hero society) but... i dunno. it's a balancing act, you know? these issues are very blurry and gray (as opposed to being just clear-cut, black and white, or easy to assess and judge as This or That), so i definitely feel your frustration BUT HOPEFULLY, canon elaborates on it all more so that we can have productive conversations about it in the fandom!!
#imbeccablee#I'm so sorry this is sooooo late#i saw the asks last night and was super excited to answer them this morning#but then i had to go Do Things Outside The House#:/#but#i hope this makes sense#i honestly think my brain is just... turning to goo#but you made some excellent points in your ask and i appreciate you sharing your thoughts with me!!!#ask#midoriya izuku#bnha dabi#todoroki touya#bnha 293#tags?????

When We Were Young- Chapter 9- An Obitine Story
The fourteen and a half years that had passed since Duchess Satine had heard the name Obi-Wan Kenobi had been semi-peaceful. Korkie was sixteen now, and attended the Royal Academy of Government, Satine couldn’t be more proud of him. Satine had also kept tabs on Tyra, at sixteen, she was a padawan learner to Quinlan Vos and was known to be an acquired taste, like her master. Tristan Wren, a blonde boy of fourteen had great skill in martial combat and was interested in the sciences. Mara had been harder to find at first, but Parna arranged a meeting between Kamrari and his apprentice a few weeks ago. She was very clever for a fourteen-year-old, and had figured out who Satine was.
“Yes, Mara,” she’d whispered, “I am the Duchess.”
“I have a pin with your emblem on it.”
Despite herself, Satine had smiled, “I’m glad you haven’t lost it.”
Mara looked the Duchess straight in the eye, “I would never lose the only gift my mother gave me.”
Those words kept Satine calm when she realized that she didn’t really like the people her children were becoming. However, she couldn’t have raised them herself, and they had their lives, that was the most important thing.
“Your Grace?”
Satine looked up, Parna was standing at the door to her personal parlor.
“The guards have informed me that the Jedi is here.”
The Duchess felt the atmosphere change when she walked into the room. Testing her old love while trying to keep her voice neutral, Satine spoke to him.
“Master Kenobi, my shining Jedi knight to the rescue once again.”
“After all these years, you’re even more beautiful than ever.”
Satine forced herself to stay composed, “Kind words from a man who accuses me of treachery.”
“I would never accuse you of personal wrongdoing, Duchess.” Obi-Wan commented seriously, “however-”
As Obi-Wan launched into some story, Satine was only half listening. That beard, he hadn’t had a beard last time they’d met.
“Everyone of my people is as trustworthy as I am.” the Duchess concluded.
“I know we sound defensive but-”
“Clearly,” Satine huffed, “your investigation was ordered because the senate is eager to intervene in our affairs.”
“My investigation was ordered by the Jedi Council.” Obi-Wan said calmly.
Satine frowned, “I stand corrected.”
After a moment of silence, Satine held out her hand.
“General Kenobi, perhaps you’d like to join me on a walk through the city.”
With grace, Obi-Wan took Satine’s hand and offered her his arm. The Duchess gestured to her lady.
“It’s so good to see you again, Obi-Wan,” Satine confessed when they arrived at the park, “despite the circumstances.”
“Your peaceful ways have paid off,” complimented the Jedi, “Mandalore has prospered since the last time I was here.”
“Not everyone on Mandalore is convinced that our commitment to peace is a sign of progress.” Satine divulged, launching into a speech on Death Watch.
“I hope you’re right, Duchess.”
Satine smirked, remembering the first time Obi-Wan admitted she was right about something. It was Draboon.
“Something amusing, Duchess?”
Satine strut forward, “Your choice of words pleases me is all, Master Jedi.”
Obi-Wan made a noise in his throat, likely a guttural reaction to the word “please.” She’d left it open, clever She-Wolf that Satine was, he could answer that any way he wished.
Rushing to catch up with her, Obi-Wan answered, “I wasn’t aware that I was entertaining, Satine.”
“You aren’t aware of many things, Ben.”
Obi-Wan raised an eyebrow at her, this was getting dangerously close to their old ways.
“Do tell me, Master Jedi,” the Duchess switched tactics, “do you fancy yourself a peacekeeper?”
This thread of conversation lasted until the monument in front of them exploded.
“Are you alright?”
It was the emotion in Obi-Wan’s words that made her breath hitch.
“I’m fine.”
Running into the fray, Satine let herself help those struggling to stand. She had a soft soul deep down, really, she knew that about herself.
“I want to interview everyone here,” Obi-Wan announced, “no one is to leave this scene.”
No sooner had he said this than a rogue pedestrian ran from the crime.
“You there!”
What followed next were a shocking chain of events. At the end of it all, Satine couldn’t believe that one of her people would give up his own life to give ground to a cause that hated her.
“I didn’t kill him.”
“I know,” Satine said cooly, “that’s why I’m still talking to you.”
When they arrived back at the palace for their journey to Concordia, Parna brought out a new outfit for her lady.
“The Master Jedi’s arrival seems to have upset you.” she commented.
Satine sighed, “I never let my emotions get such control of me.”
“If I may, your Grace,” Parna ventured closer, “you called the Master Jedi Ben.”
“Yes, I did.”
Parna raised an eyebrow, “Many years ago you told me that the father of your children was named Ben.”
Satine went red, realizing what she’d done.
“You needn’t worry, Your Grace,” Parna took Satine’s hands in hers, “he doesn’t seem to know.”
“It’s myself I’m worried about Parna,” the Duchess confessed, “I never got over him.”
“You’ll be alright, Satine,” assured her lady, “you’re strong.”
“Thank you, Parna, I surely hope I am.”
When Satine saw Obi-Wan again, she thought she caught his eyes lingering on her pale collarbone, which her salmon-colored dress exposed. Hiding her hopefulness with a smile, Satine let Obi-Wan lead her onto the ship.
They talked about Concordia’s history on the ride over, but what they did not mention was how Obi-Wan knew such information. How Satine used to tell him about Mandalorian history while bandaging his wounds.
“Duchess Satine,” began the Governor, “you are most welcome.”
The Duchess replied gracefully, remembering on her part to introduce Obi-Wan, which actually, she was quite proud of.
“Governor Vizsla is one of the officials I spoke of,” Satine continued, “he’s been working to find the members of Death Watch.”
After a brief discussion, the Governor went to attend to the body of the bomber, in which Obi-Wan took the opportunity to gently graze the Duchess’ arm.
“Satine, I need a favor from you.”
It took a moment to recover her wits, but eventually the Duchess realized what the Jedi would be doing.
“Remember, you are here under my protection,” Satine warned, “please try not to cause problems where none yet exist.”
“Think of me as,” Obi-Wan grinned, “searching for solutions.”
“I have to tell you,” Satine yelled over the rumbling of his speeder, “I’m opposed to all of this!”
The Jedi Knight had the audacity to wink, “I’d be disappointed if you weren’t!”
After lying to the Governor, Satine retreated to the quarters that were set up for her, where Parna was reading Satine’s toilette.
“The Jedi?” she asked, without turning her head.
“Meditating.” the Duchess answered.
Parna snorted.
Smiling like a fool, Satine threw herself onto the couch and sighed, “This is going to be awful.”
“On the contrary, Your Grace,” Parna crossed her arms, “I think you are most certainly going to enjoy this.”
“That’s for certain,” Satine agreed, then, melting slightly, “he winked at me.”
“He winked at you?” Satine bit her lower lip, “Yes.”
Parna sighed, “Just a wink and you’re already like this.”
“You should’ve seen us when we were younger.” Satine’s eyes went far away.
“You forget, Your Grace,” Parna moved to stare down her lady, “I was the one who cleaned your room after his visits.”
Satine grimaced and turned a nasy shade of scarlet. Parna laughed.
“This,” Parna stated, “is going to be the highlight of my career.”
“Do ready me for dinner, Parna.” Satine huffed.
“Yes, Your Grace.”
After fixing her hair, the Duchess went to drinks with the Governor, where they discussed the Death Watch problem. For some reason, the shadows cast on the official’s face unnerved Satine.
“Take it as a compliment,” Governor Vizsla toasted, “someone very powerful is working towards your downfall.”
Satine frowned, mulling over her thoughts. Who could possibly want her gone?
“Duchess, please acknowledge.” Obi-Wan’s voice echoed in her ear.
This was an awkward spot to be in. Using all the political skill she had learned in the last seventeen or so years, Satine maneuvered out of her situation with the Governor and grabbed a speeder.
“Where exactly are you?” the Duchess whispered when she arrived.
“Listen for the loud, metallic, clanging sound,” Obi-Wan snapped, “that would be the machine about to chop me into bits.”
Ignoring Obi-Wan’s snark, Satine followed the loud, metallic, clanging sound after triggering an alarm at the entrance. She barely made it under the conveyor before the guards in Mandalorian armor clamored away.
“It certainly took you long enough!” huffed Obi-Wan.
“You know, I haven’t saved you yet!” Satine remarked.
“Yes,” Obi-Wan rolled his eyes, “no need to remind me of that.”
“Be patient.” Satine scoffed.
“I happen to be a bit short on patience right now!” Obi-Wan countered.
Muttering to herself and ignoring her Jedi, Satine fiddled with the control panel.
“Satine, turn the machine off!” yelled Obi-Wan.
“I’m trying!” Satine remarked hotly.
“Satine!”
The Duchess pushed the right button, she grinned.
“Look out!”
As Satine was grabbed from behind, she kicked a barrel into the machine perfectly enabling one of Obi-Wan’s grand escapes. Then, with a few kicks and grunts, the Jedi had freed her.
Straightening her shoulders, the Duchess commented, “For a man sworn to peace, you take an unseemly pleasure in the injuries of others.”
“For a woman sworn to non-violence you don’t seem troubled that I could’ve been killed back there.” came Obi-Wan’s snarky retort.
“But you werent,” Satine insisted, “and yet I still haven’t heard any thanks.”
“Well,” Obi-Wan sighed, “you certainly haven’t changed much.”
Covering her eyes, the Duchess pretended not to notice as Obi-Wan punched a Death Watch member.
“This is not the way we came in.” observed the Jedi.
“Look,” came a far off cry, “it’s the Jedi!”
Pulling Satine behind the safety of a rock, Obi-Wan grinned. Satine scoffed.
“We’ll have to stand and fight, or in your case, just stand.”
The Duchess of Mandalore was offended. Still, she tried not to gape as Obi-Wan got up to his old tricks, or look at his muscles while doing so, definitely not that. Inhaling sharply as her Ben was knocked down, Satine threw a rock at the soldier.
“You there!”
Then, she ran being a rock, being useless in a fight as she was.
“Satine!”
“I’m alright.” she responded, feeling soft at the concern in Obi-Wan’s voice.
Obi-Wan searched her face, his blue eyes she knew so well lingering on her jaw. Their moment was cut short however, when Obi-Wan abruptly stood and faced a new enemy.
“Governor?” Satine gasped.
“For generations my ancestors fought bravely as warriors against the Jedi-”
“Save the history lesson, Pre,” Satine shouted, “you’re a traitor!”
“You tarnish the name Mandalorian,” Vizsla spat, then, turning to Obi-Wan “defend her if you will.”
Satine was shocked on many fronts, she had never been betrayed before, yet Obi-Wan, it seemed, was going to defend her. They fought, Satine began to tremble, cursing herself for getting accustomed to safety.
“Satine!”
Then, she saw it. Having been by Obi-Wan’s side in imminent danger before, Satine knew exactly what to do, jump into the Jedi’s arms. The landing was rough, somehow, she landed on the cold stone, Obi-Wan’s body as her shield from the debris above.
There was an awkward moment when neither of them moved, remembering what they used to do when pressed so close together. Then, stiffly, Obi-Wan stood.
“Your Grace-”
“I’m fine,” Satine turned to the Jedi, “but you are not.”
Obi-Wan winced.
“Give me your arm.” Satine said gently.
Obi-Wan shook his head.
“I’m not going to wound your pride, Ben,” the Duchess sighed, genly taking Obi-Wan’s arm around her shoulder, “please just lean on me.”
The Jedi did, but Satine didn’t need the force to know he was uncomfortable. When did he get so rigid, so formal? The Duchess supposed she had changed to then. Maybe, Obi-Wan didn’t want to resume their relationship where it was abruptly cut off? That thought cut Satine to the core as they approached the speeders, and gingerly, she lent Obi-Wan some of his dignity back.
“I suppose we’re even now.” she concluded.
“How so?” grunted the Jedi.
“I saved your life,” Satine explained, “you saved mine.”
“Yes, well,” Obi-Wan grinned, “mine was the more daring of the two rescues.”
When they arrived back at the Governor's House, Satine decided against cleaning up Obi-Wan’s wounds like she used to, and bid the Jedi a chilly goodnight. Parna however, noticed some bruises would form by morning.
“The enemy grappled me,” Satine explained sadly, “I fear this problem is more widespread than we thought.”
“Satine, your safety is of the utmost importance.” Parna said, breaking formalities.
Sighing, Satine pulled on her nightdress.
“I hope this distraction won’t let you forget that.” continued the lady.
“I hope so too,” Satine agreed, climbing into bed, “thank you for our help, Parna.”
In the morning, breakfast was polite and the flight back to Sundari was silent. Satine was grateful when Senator Merrick and Prime Minister Almec exchanged pleasantries with the Jedi so she didn't have to. If things continued this way, it would turn out awful.
After a quick scuffle over who was supporting the Death Watch, Satine left Obi-Wan on the loading platform, not expecting to see him for some time. Unfortunately, he was on the same ship she was, so there wouldn't be many places to hide.
After a quick brush up with Parna, Satine made her way to the ship’s parlor-like room and sat herself upon a cushioned dias. Having already sent for Obi-Wan, Satine began to inform her peers of the current terrible affront on life itself, the Republic’s newest war.
“And yet some would argue,” Obi-Wan crossed his arms, “the safest defense is a swift and decisive offense.”
Satine raised her eyebrow at the Jed.
“You are quite the general now, aren't you, Master Kenobi?” she asked.
“Forgive me for interrupting, Your Highness,” Obi-Wan paused, “I meant no disrespect.”
“Really,” Satine turned to address her peers, “Senators, I assume you are all acquainted with the collection of half-truths and hyperbole known as Obi-Wan Kenobi.”
The Jedi grimaced, Satine smiled.
“Your Highness is,” Obi-Wan frowned, “too kind.”
“You’re right,” Satine frowned, momentarily lost in thought, “I am.”
Had the Duchess scanned the room, she would’ve seen the inquisitive looked of Senator Robb and Jedi Master Anakin Skywalker.
“Allow me to introduce my fellow Jedi,” Obi-Wan gestured, penetrating the silence, “Anakin Skywalker.”
Satine smirked, “I remember a time when Jedi were not generals, but peacekeepers.”
“We are protectors, Highness,” Anakin shifted, “yours at the moment, we fight for peace.”
The Duchess huffed, fully herself once more, “ What an amusing contradiction.”
“What Master Skywalker means is we are acting at the behest of Your Highness, to protect you from the Death Watch and the Separatists who don’t share your neutral point of view.”
“I ask for no such thing.” Satine stated plainly.
“That may be so,” Obi-Wan stepped forward, “but a majority of your court did.”
Satine gave Obi-Wan a pointed look, “I do not remember you as one tot hide behind excuses.”
“I do not remember you as one to shrink from responsibilities.” Obi-Wan countered calmly.
If it wasn’t for Senator Orn Free Ta, Satine would have argued with Obi-Wan all night. She’d put her finger on it now, what made her so mad. He was stiff, the years had made him so, he was formal and changed, nothing like her Ben, the father of her children.
“Your Grace, In regard to the senate vote, we think-”
“I think a multitude makes discord, not good council.” Satine concluded.
“You are right, My Lady.”
Trying to ignore Obi-Wan, Satine engaged Senator Robb in pleasant conversation, her musical laugh being distracting enough.
“A republic military offensive is the only sure defense against the Separatists.” Obi-Wan interrupted.
Satine threw her glass at Obi-Wan, who dodged it with ease.
Standing with a calm smile, Satine stated, “Even extremists can be reasoned with.”
“Perhaps, if one can be heard over the clanking of their battle droids!”
The Duchess scoffed, “The sarcasm of a soldier.”
“The delusion of a dreamer.” the Jedi countered.
“Duchess, Master Jedi,” Senator Marrick turned between the two, “itt’s been a long trip, I think we can all use a little rest and refreshment.”
Satine stared Obi-Wan down, how dare he call her that!
“Fine!”
“Fine!”
Shoving Obi-Wan out of the way, Satine left the room to cool off.
“Oh, Parna,” Satine huffed as she opened her quarter doors, “I hate him!”
Parna turned, gaping with a tilted head.
“That’s quite the interesting tale, Your Grace.”
“I can’t stand him now,” the Duchess threw herself onto the couch, “it’s just like, it’s just like when we were young.”
“You’re not old, Your Grace.”
“Younger.” Satine corrected.
“If I can remember correctly, Satine,” Parna grinned, “he had to erase your guards’ memories because-”
“Before that, Parna,” Satine waved, “I meant before that.”
Eventually, the Duchess returned to the foyer for dinner, which, pleasantly, she found was free of Master Kenobi.
“I beg your pardon, Senators-”
Or maybe she spoke too soon.
“Our men are investigating a situation below decks, I respectfully ask you to wait here till it’s settled.”
Satine frowned, someone really wanted to kill her. Obi-Wan’s comm beeped.
The Jedi had the audacity to smile, “Please excuse me.”
Becoming a slave to her own thoughts, Satine didn’t hear anything else until Obi-Wan ignited his lightsaber.
“Secure the lifts!” he shouted with urgency.
It did no good, a nasty spider droid nearly got to Satine, fortunately for her, Obi-Wan did his duty as always, and protected her. She cursed her wild heart for fluctuating so fast at his valiant efforts.
Senator Orn Free Ta screamed and ran backwards. Satine looked down, miniature versions of the spider droid scattered around the room. Fleeing to a remote corner, Satine was surprised to find Obi-Wan following her.
“Why-”
“My duty is to protect you, Duchess.” Obi-Wan replied, keeping his eyes on the floor.
Satine pulled out a deactivator and shot at the droids. Now she was back to back with Obi-Wan, fighting off enemies like had occurred a decade and a half before.
“Do you always carry a deactivator? Obi-Wan yelled, slightly agitated.
“Just because I’m a pacifist doesn’t mean I won’t defend myself.” Satine responded.
Obi-Wan huffed, “Now you sound like a Jedi.”
As the chaos faded, Obi-Wan bent down and picked up one of the disabled droids.
“Just like that swarm of venemites on Draboon, remember?”
A smile pricked Staine’s lips, “How could I forget, I still have the scar.”
“Begging your pardon, Duchess,” Obi-Wan began, falling for Satine’s trap, “I distinctly remember carrying you to safety.”
Satine turned, her expression gleeful, “I meant the scar I got after you fell, and dropped me.”
“Oh,” Obi-Wan looked down, “yes.”
Satine couldn’t help herself, she giggled, which caused Obi-Wan to raise his head and try to discern what was so funny.
“Why don’t you go to your quarters, Duchess,” Obi-Wan suggested, “this must’ve been very trying for your nerves.”
“Are you contradicting yourself, Master Jedi,” Satine raised an eyebrow, “should I be safe without your protection?”
“We’ve swept the area, Satine,” Obi-Wan sighed, using the Duchess’ name, “you'll be fine.”
Parna was relieved to see her lady.
“Oh, Satine,” she sighed, “we were ordered to stay where we were-”
“I know,” the Duchess took her lady’s hands in hers, “but you’re alright?”
“Me, of course, yes, and yourself?”
“I’m fine,” Satine lowered her eyes, “but I hate that I am the target of these attempts.”
“You are strong, Your Grace,” Parna looked Satine dead in the eye, “you will survive this.”
Nodding, the Duchess allowed Parna to recomb her hair.
“Your Highness,” a droid beeped, “the party is gathering in the foyer.”
“I must be off,” Satine stood, “thank you for your help, Parna.”
“Of course, My Lady.”
At dinner once again, Satine was surprised to find everything in order.
“Duchess,” observed Senator Ta, “you are not eating?”
“I have no appetite.” Satine confessed.
She was still mulling over the fact that someone very powerful wanted her dead, and her people were willing to betray their own Duchess to help assassinate her.
The door opened, Satine felt Obi-Wan’s energy, not in the literal force sense, but she knew his mannerisms. The Duchess focused her eyes on her wine glass, they only rose when the last spider droid was revealed.
“My theory, is that our little friend will attack the Duchess and anyone who defends her,” the Jedi paused, “anyone that is, except the traitor who programmed it.”
“Obi-Wan, this line of questioning borders on torture!” Satine stood.
“Oh, I assure our pacifist Duchess that all is under control,” Obi-Wan’s tone was calm and inquisitive, but Satine felt there was an eagerness there.
Why, she dared not guess.
“But it seems to like you, Senator Marrick.” Obi-Wan observed.
“Really, General Kenobi,” the Senator paused, “you’re quite clever.”
Satine stayed still, perfectly in shock. An elected representative of the people, turning on her? Marrick smacked the droid out of Obi-Wan’s hands and, unmoving, the Duchess watched itt approach her. At the last moment, she jumped backward.
For a second, she breathed easy, seeing her shining Jedi knight jump to her rescue, but as a yank jerked her backwards, Satine felt that ease of being diminish. The Duchess felt a pang in her heart at being separated from Obi-Wan who she had just been reunited with. Satine was certain she was going to die.
“Monster,” she cried as Tal Marrick shot the crewmen, “you’re a horrid monster.”
“Get used to it.” was his smug response.
The Duchess’ jaw dropped when the Senator contacted Death Watch command. Was she so easily betrayed?
“Reinforcements are on their way.”
Satine’s blood went cold. What would she tell Korkie, Tyra Satine, Tristan, and Mara? Only one out of the four children knew there were hers, and that was based on only an inkling. Would she die without saying goodbye to her children?
“Come in, Kenobi,” drawled Marrick, “you’re expected.”
“Tal Marrick, you are under arrest, release the Duchess!”
Satine’s heart palpitated wildly, Obi-Wan was going to rescue her again. The Mandalorian part of her was stubborn and wanted to say he didn’t need to save her, but the reasonable half of her brain knew that she was being held hostage.
“I took the precaution of wiring this ship’s engine, I press this red button,” Marrick smiled, “and we all will die.”
“Obi,” Satine pleaded, “if you have any respect for me, you will not take such risks with so many lives at stake.”
“Satine,” Obi-Wan’s eyes widened as Marrick pulled her away, “don’t!”
The Duchess was a mess, her emotions in a storm, she had so much left to say. What if Obi-Wan never found out? As Satine watched the Jedi follow in his crouched fighting stance, Satine decided on what to tell him.
“This is Marrick, stand by to disengage,” the Senator grinned, ‘say farewell, Duchess.”
“Obi-Wan,” Satine bit her lip, “it looks like I may never see you again, I don’t know quite how to say this but: I’ve loved you, from the moment you came to my aid all those years ago.”
Marrick groaned, “I don’t believe this.”
“Satine, this is hardly the time or place for-”
Satine whimpered.
“Alright, had you said the word, I would’ve left the Jedi order.”
Those words brought tears to Satine’s eyes.
“That is touching, truly it is, but it’s making me sick, and we really must be going.”
“Ugh,” Satine coughed, “you have the romantic soul of a slug, Marrick, and slugs are often trod upon.” Grabbing the gun, Satine held it at arm’s length, aiming at the Senator as he explained his plan to kill everyone on the coronet.
“I will not allow that.” Satine spat.
“And what will you do,” Marrick asked, “if you shoot me, you condemn yourself a hypocrite to all the pacifist ideals you hold so dear.”
“And you, Kenobi, you are no stranger to violence, you’d be hailed as a hero by everyone on this ship,” Marrick shifted his eyes to Satine and giggled, “almost everyone.”
“Come on then,” the Senator gestured, “who will strike first and brand themselves a cold-blooded killer.”
Within the next second, Tal Marrick was dead and Satine realized she was holding a gun. Distraught, she threw it away.
“Anakin.”
Satine stepped forward, “Obi-Wan, I-”
“General Skywalker, sir, the last of the droids have been defeated.”
The Duchess straightened, “I must get back to the business of diplomacy.”
Instead what she did was run to Parna and cry.

Alright, so onto chapter 2 of “No Regrets”.
I want to talk a little about these opening panels, when Levi, Furlan and Isabel are being driven to HQ by carriage. They seem unimportant, but I think they’re actually really important in understanding Levi’s psychology going into this new situation they’re all in.
We see the interior of the carriage, with Levi and the other two, along with an escort from the SC. Furlan and Isabel are both looking out the window of the carriage, and in particular, Isabel seems incredibly excited and in awe of the passing view. She’s stood up, with her face pressed to the window. And in the next panel, we see her looking at a little girl with her mother, dressed nicely and holding a doll. This really encapsulates everything Isabel herself has probably never had. A reliable mother to take care of her, fancy clothes and toys to play with. Essentially, an actual childhood. We see Isabel’s face in the window, and her mouth is open in wonder, her eyes wide. Like she can’t believe what she’s seeing. It emphasizes the depravation and lack of privilege she’s endured all her life. Meanwhile, by contrast, Levi sits there with his head bowed down, ignoring the passing scenery, looking deeply unhappy, even depressed. When he does look up though, he sees Isabel looking out the window, and on the close up shot of him, he’s got an almost thoughtful expression, if still extremely dour. No doubt, Levi is feeling uneasy and uncertain about the situation they’ve all gotten themselves into here, but I’m also sure that he’s unable to ignore the bubbling over excitement of Isabel, her obvious joy in being, at last, on the surface. I’ll get more into this later in the post, when we see Levi really considering his friends and their dreams, and how it influences and dictates his own decisions.
But first lets talk a little about Erwin and his role in all of this.
Now at the time this series came out, Erwin’s actual, motivating reasons for doing what he does weren’t yet known, so it’s interesting to read into his actions in this story with that context. I have no doubt that Erwin really DOES care about humanity, and wants to fight for it, and its salvation. But as we come to learn from the main series, he places his own dream of proving his father right about the existence of human’s beyond the walls above what’s best for humanity, and it puts his actions in this story into an interesting, if harsher light.
No doubt, Erwin is a master manipulator. He plays both sides expertly against the middle in this story, and I’ll get more into it by the end, when his actual plan is revealed to Levi. But what I don’t see often discussed is how, exactly, Erwin got all the parts moving in the direction he wanted, to obtain a specific outcome, and how he pretty ruthlessly uses so many people as pawns to do so. It’s obvious from the context of what we later learn in the story that Erwin first spread a rumor about having evidence against Lovof stealing funds in order to force him into tipping his hand by trying to make a preemptive move. What I see people miss all the time, or at least, fail to discuss, is how Erwin also, at the same time, made it public knowledge within the Capital, that he would be going after a group of thugs in the Underground who had shown exceptional skill using ODM gear, and that he would be making contact with them as soon as possible to try and enlist them into military service, and how Erwin made these plans public specifically to encourage Lobov into seeking out Levi and his friends for the exact purpose of both implicating Lobov in a crime, and gaining Levi’s and his friends strength for the SC. One, by hiring a group of criminals to steal from Erwin and attempt to assassinate him, so he could use that as leverage in case he wasn’t able to obtain proof of Lobov’s further criminal activities, thus having two means of getting rid of one of the SC’s biggest threats, and at the same time, also manage to score for the SC the exceptional skill of Levi and his friends through forced enlistment. He even says to Zackely at one point “I intend to make use of anyone who has even the smallest potential during this expedition.”. Erwin manipulated and had control of this entire scenario from the start, and from behind these scenes moved all of these people exactly how he wanted to, to achieve his goals. That’s pretty impressive, but also pretty scary. Well, I’ll talk more about all of that when we get to it later on.
Back to Levi and his friends though.
We see them arrive at the SC HQ, and a really important conversation happens between Levi and Furlan.
Furlan seems like he’s almost bitten off more than he can chew here, beginning to express his concern to Levi about what joining the SC actually means, before Levi cuts him off, telling him he’s got no intention of enlisting, and that he only agreed to come along so that he could get closer to Erwin and then kill him. I think Levi genuinely felt murderous towards Erwin at this point, and really means what he says here, at least about killing him. Though given the end of chapter 1, with the significant look shared between Levi and Furlan, and Levi’s begrudging acceptance of Erwin’s offer, it’s obvious that Levi also agreed to come because that’s what Furlan wanted him to do, to give them the opportunity they needed. Levi’s just feeling incredibly emotional here, I think, with the way Erwin treated all of them hot on his mind. Furlan tries to implore Levi to forget about killing Erwin, that it isn’t necessary anymore because of his own plan, and the almost certainty that Lobov and his people won’t ever try to make contact with them again. He tells Levi, if he just listens to him and follows his plan, “I know it’ll work. Trust me, Levi.” Furlan asking him to trust him pulls a meaningful look from Levi, seeming to break through Levi’s angry insistence on killing Erwin. This is where the manga improved on Levi’s characterization and motivation by leaps and bounds over the visual novel, because in the next few panels, we see Levi walking away, with Furlan calling after him, concerned, but we get to see Levi’s inner thoughts, and he’s remembering specifically Furlan insisting to him that “one day, we’ll get outta this trash heap and live up above.” We see Levi thinking about Furlan’s hopes and dreams in these panels, and he has a saddened, and guilt-ridden look on his face, like he feels bad about having dismissed Furlan’s plans back there in favor of his own plans for revenge. We didn’t get any of this in the visual novel, instead the text there making Levi look like he refused to consider anyones position but his own in this whole situation. But here, Levi is clearly concerned with and considering Furlan’s desires.
We go into a flashback then, with Furlan explaining to Levi his plans, telling him that “nothing’s gone according to plan... But with you here we’ll really be able to raise hell.” Furlan’s trying to explain to Levi that since he now has Levi’s strength to rely on, they can actually get something done once they get into the Survey Corps. It almost seems like Furlan’s been planning on trying something like this, or at least, had some sort of loose plan about getting to the surface, even before he met Levi. It’s obviously something he’s been dreaming about for a long time.
Then Isabel comes back, and she’s been roughed up and assaulted, and we learn from Furlan asking her if she went to see those “low-life scumbags again?” that this has obviously happened to her before, that she’s been associating with some bad people and it’s gotten her hurt. She denies it and lies about having just tripped, but clearly neither Levi or Furlan are buying that. Levi asks Isabel what happened to her hair, and Isabel reacts badly, running away and hiding in her room. We get a close up of Levi holding a knife in his hands, foreshadowing his own intentions. Later that night, Furlan hears Isabel crying in her room, and her chanting to herself over and over that she’s going to “kill you”, presumably meaning the men that hurt her earlier. Furlan stands there lamenting that he thinks both Levi and Isabel are going “mad, and that all they can think about is dragging everyone else down to where they are. He’s obviously terrified that he’s going to lose both his friends to the savagery and ruthlessness of the Underground, that both of them are going to end up becoming lost to their own anger and pain. He starts to say “That’s why I...” before Levi suddenly comes back in, holding a bloody knife, clearly having returned from exacting revenge on the men who hurt Isabel. Furlan asks Levi “Did you kill them...?”, and Levi doesn’t answer, but we see a completely resigned, even sad look on his face. This of course is the world Levi comes from. It’s the world he was raised in. A world of kill or be killed. Levi must have figured, if he didn’t go out and kill those men that had hurt Isabel now, then someday, they would end up going too far with her, and kill her instead. But Furlan clearly doesn’t understand, and doesn’t relate to that kind of mindset, despite coming from the Underground too. Of course, Furlan wasn’t raised by Kenny the Ripper either. This is how Levi was taught to deal with his problems, and Furlan can only see him spiraling into an abyss from which he fears Levi won’t return.
We cut back to the present then, and Levi is sitting up on the roof of the SC HQ, again remembering Furlan’s words about “This is our chance. Trust me.”. Getting to the surface and finding better lives for themselves is Furlan’s dream. The fact that Levi keeps remembering it, keeps remembering Furlan insisting and pushing the idea of the possibility of living on the surface, shows that this is probably something he would talk about all the time with Levi, trying to get him to agree to it, to believe in it. Once again, Levi is contemplating the hopes and dreams of his friends. We get another close up of him holding a knife, and it represents, I think, his struggle between his desire for revenge against Erwin, and his desire to help Furlan realize what, to Levi, is probably an unrealistic goal.
We then get Furlan and Isabel joining Levi, commenting on how beautiful the night sky is, and asking Levi how he could keep it to himself. Levi snips testily at Furlan that him and Isabel are so loud, that he’d be too irritated to get any killing done, and then Furlan looking clearly unsettled by the remark. But it’s obvious, given the context of the previous panels of Levi’s thinking about Furlan’s dream, that Levi is just being peevish and saying things out of frustration and confusion. He doesn’t really mean what he says here. He’s taking his frustration out on Furlan by saying what he knows will upset him the most. What this also tells us is that Levi is very much aware of how bothered Furlan is by Levi’s willingness to kill. He isn’t at all oblivious to it, and given his resigned, saddened expression after coming back from killing the men who assaulted Isabel, I would say Levi even understands Furlan’s dismay. That’s a glimpse at Levi’s famous compassion.
The next panels show the three of them bonding, sitting together and admiring the night sky. Isabel asks Levi if the stars are as pretty as where he used to live. I’m just going to chalk the mistake in continuity here up to this manga coming out before, I believe, Levi’s backstory of being born in a brothel in the Underground was established by Isayama. Regardless of this mistake, this is an important moment between the three of them. You can see the awe and wonder they all feel, looking up and seeing the sky fully for what has to be the first time in all their lives. Remember, all three of them have lived literally underground their entire lives, with little to no sunlight, stagnant, stale air, hideously unclean living conditions, etc... It must be overwhelming to them , just to see nature in all its splendor like that. It’s after sharing this moment together that Levi tells Furlan that he’s decided he won’t kill Erwin for now. He looks at him and says “I’m going to trust you.”. And Furlan smiles at him, clearly happy and relieved. This scene is really important, because we’re seeing Levi choose Furlan’s dream over his own desire for revenge. We see Levi place Furlan’s desires over his own, which is totally in line with how Levi is in the main AoT storyline. He decides his revenge can wait, that it’s not as important as helping Furlan achieve his goals. What’s particularly remarkable about this, I think, is that it doesn’t appear that Levi ever dreamed of going to the surface himself, and likely that he never even considered it a possibility. So just like Levi fights, later on, for a world without fear and violence, for humanity’s salvation, even as all his life experiences tell him it likely isn’t possible, we see the Levi doing the same here, deciding to fight for his friend’s dream, even as to him, it seems unrealistic. It’s obviously a pivotal moment too, when Levi tells him he’s going to trust him, because this ties in hugely with the theme which applies so much to Levi throughout the whole series, of never knowing if it’s better to rely on himself solely, to trust himself, or to trust and rely on his friends and their capabilities. Levi chooses, here, to trust in his friends, and that will obviously have it’s own ramifications down the line. Again, this is an area in which the manga improves radically over the visual novel, which had no instances whatsoever of Levi struggling with the question of the choices we make, which is absurd, since it’s one of the driving factors behind who Levi is, and how he ultimately came to see the world as he does. It was precisely this struggle between choices, between trying to choose correctly, giving so much thought and effort to our choices, and still sometimes coming out wrong, that shaped Levi into being able to accept his lack of control and instead of regretting it, using it to keep fighting.
Anyway, I’ll get to chapter 3 tomorrow.

And the last chapter of the first volume! Though technically there’s after-chapter content that will be in a separate post from this, but for now, what matters is finishing up the quirk assessment and getting into the battle trial!
Honestly, it’s a good thing that I just shoved all the opening arcs from before the USJ together into one tag, because this chapter literally goes from the quirk assessment into the beginning of the battle trial stuff, and trying to separate them out would have been a mess and a half. Better to just have it all in the ‘opening arcs’ tag.
...weird title for something that only comes at the end of the chapter, but whatever, it’s not like we don’t see that happen later on in the series as well.
[No. 7 - Costume Change?]
And we immediately come back to where we left off, with All Might realizing what just happened and what Izuku did and even why! One of those little peeks that remind us that All Might is very smart! Also god, him with a small fanboy moment over how proud he is of his kid and how cool that workaround was, mmm this is the Dad Might content I signed up for.
Izuku is still standing firm, even with his finger swollen and damaged, biting back the pain. Ochako is cheering about that record, Tenya notices Izuku’s finger is damaged and thinks back to the entrance exam, calling it a ‘strange quirk’, Aoyama says it’s stylishly done, and Katsuki is brain broke.
I’m sorry that’s just so fucking funny. He is such a goddamn gremlin, but he’s also completely shook. He thinks about how quirks never manifest past age four, but somehow Izuku has a quirk.
He then recalls Izuku saying ‘he earned this’ and gets pissed, blasting forward to demand an explanation while Izuku freaks out-
Only for Katsuki to have his quirk cancelled by Aizawa and also get caught up in the capture scarf.
Beauty. Grace. He’ll bite off your face.
Katsuki notes the cloth is stiff, while Aizawa tells him that it’s a capture weapon made of carbon fibers and a special alloy wire, then tells Katsuki to stop using his quirk already. Which is interesting; can Aizawa sense when people are trying to use their quirks while under the effects of his? If so, is he sensing the aborted movement of whatever quirk factors exist, or ???
(All I’m saying is that that is some possible fuel for a Dad For One connection but for Aizawa instead of Izuku… you know, just in case.)
As we sort of saw from the last chapter, Aizawa’s quirk has the side effect of giving him dry eyes (he was putting eyedrops in his eyes after using his quirk on Izuku). Izuku thinks that sucks since his quirk is so awesome. Aizawa lets his quirk and scarf drop, telling the class to prepare for the next event.
Katsuki is standing where he was stopped, glaring at Izuku who is holding his hand while Ochako worries over him and his finger. He’s caught up in a flashback (which again, reminder that this is chapter 7 and we already have flashbacks), thinking about how up to then, Izuku was just another pebble in his path. We get a brief cut to a memory flashback (not a chapter flashback) to when Izuku and Katsuki were still friends, and Izuku was waiting for his quirk to come in still, and then repeats that Izuku was only supposed to be a pebble. Single track mind, much?
Discord:
Ah, that good Bakugou discourse. This is why you do this stuff in a server with friends.
Izuku narrates a short passage of time - over the rest of the events - while handling the pain of his injured finger. Aizawa tells them it’s time for the results, with Izuku thinking about how he’s going to get expelled because the only record worth mentioning was the throw, and how the endurance running failed hard because of the pain. Aizawa says he won’t explain the process behind the scoring process, just that they reflect performance.
And then he reveals he was lying about expelling someone.
The trio’s faces. Aizawa’s manic smile. The trio’s faces. And Momo there like ‘what did you expect?’ God, I can’t help but giggle.
Izuku just fucking ascending to a new plane of existance here.
Aizawa turns to leave, saying they’re done there and that the documents about the curriculum and whatnot are back in the classroom. He then calls out Izuku, who is shaking in panic (probably about Aizawa changing his mind again - I wonder if teachers before UA pulled that sort of ‘syke’ on Izuku… yikes.)
Instead, he just gets handed a pass to the nurse’s office (not even filled out fully, incredible) and then turns and walks off.
The class is left to stare after Aizawa in bafflement, with Izuku’s narration noting that he’s safe for the moment, but still has too much he can’t do, and that he’s literally starting from the bottom - but here’s there to learn so he can get closer to his dream!
Class rankings:
And- ah, he walked past All Might, who calls him out as a liar. Aizawa either didn’t notice him watching or didn’t know it was All Might specifically who was watching, but either way calls it ‘wasting time’ - which makes sense when all the teachers know about his time limit that he’s spending there watching Izuku the kids do their trials.
All Might notes that April Fool’s was over a week ago, and that the ‘rational deception’ thing falls flat when he expelled an entire class of first years the previous year. Aizawa discards those with zero potential, but he went back on his word here, and then asks if he sensed Midoriya’s potential as well. While giving Aizawa finger guns. Have I mentioned this man is a complete dork yet?
Aizawa catches onto the ‘as well’ bit, and determines that All Might’s supporting the kid - which isn’t his usual style. He then starts walking off again, saying Midoriya doesn’t have no chance, but that’s all he’ll say on the matter. He then says that if the kid had no prospects, he’d cut him loose, since it’s crueler to let someone chase half-baked dreams.
All Might determines quietly that it’s Aizawa’s way of being kind, but out loud states that they can agree to disagree. Meanwhile, in the background, Sero and Sato notice All Might, which probably leads to class 1a going after him and him fleeing for safety.
We transition to when Izuku is heading home, with him exhausted because of his trip to Recovery Girl. Tenya checks in on him, and Izuku says he’s fine, with us seeing a temporary flashback to the nurse’s office. Izuku notes his finger’s better, but he’s exhausted all of a sudden (he doesn’t remember last time since he was unconscious).
A couple of things:
Kamui Woods pez dispenser
Oh, so if he doesn’t have stamina he’ll die! Good to know! :)
Anyways, Izuku thinks about how he can’t keep going on like this and has to figure out how to regulate his power fast. Tenya goes on to talk about how Aizawa had fooled them, making them think that was how it was, only for it to be a deception. (The irony that the mercy was actually unplanned all along gets to me.) Izuku is more relaxed around him now that he realizes Tenya isn’t scary, just super serious.
Ochako rushes over to catch up, asking if they’re heading for the station. Tenya calls her ‘Infinity Girl’ and Izuku repeats it mentally in surprise. Ochako introduces herself, and then brings up their names - though she mistakes Izuku’s name for ‘Deku’, because of what Katsuki said during the test. Izuku corrects her with awkward hand gestures, saying his real name and that the ‘Deku’ is just Katsuki being a bully.
Tenya and Ochako both acknowledge this, with Ochako apologizing, and then mentioning how ‘Deku’ sounds like ‘do your best’, and that she likes it. Izuku goes beet fucking red and immediately replies that Deku is fine, with Tenya chastising him for not showing backbone while Izuku calls it like the Copernican Revolution and Ochako questions who Copernicus is.
The narration takes over, noting that even if there’s a lot he can’t do, he’ll do his best, but having All Might and even some friends behind him… it’s more than he could have asked for.
Good children. Best friends. God, these were the good days… more OG Dekucrew content please and thanks.
We get one panel of Toshinori that Izuku’s got no time to rest, and that tomorrow the real test begins. Then we’re onto the next day, aka the first day of actual classes - and oh, right, UA has clubs, that’s something that’s easy to forget when we never see it with the hero classes. I mean, considering that the actual hero training classes probably overlap the usual club hours, not surprising, but still.
Present Mic is shown to be the English teacher, trying to get the kids in the spirit of class, but pretty much everyone is finding it boring - asides from Izuku, who is actually trying to answer the question mentally, even if not out loud. The narration notes that the mornings are for normal classes, and that lunch is top-notch food for dirt cheap in the cafeteria (as cooked by Lunch Rush), and then hero training is in the afternoon… possibly after lunch? Which isn’t great when people could end up throwing up. Ah well.
These fucking dorks. Two peas in a quirkless-to-superpowered pea pod.
And of course, more meta from the class on how All Might’s drawn differently.
Anyways, All Might gets into Hero Basic Training, how it’ll mold them into heroes, and that there’s no time to waste as he shows off a card reading ‘battle’ before stating that they have battle training.
Have I mentioned he’s a dork? There’s more ham here than in Shatner’s performances in the original Star Trek series!
Katsuki is thrilled with battle training, of course. All Might notes that for battle training, the class will need - as the wall clicks and opens several drawers with numbered cases, each with contents in accordance with the quirk registry and the special request forms fill out before admission - costumes! Which the class is super hyped about. Izuku is holding his backpack in excitement, and All Might orders the students to come out to Ground Beta in ranking order once they’re changed, to which the class agrees.
As he takes his leave, he notes that looking good is important, and to look alive, because from today on, they’re all heroes! We also get some nice transition moments showing pieces of people’s costumes, with Izuku being the last one out as the rest show theirs off.
So cool! And what a way to end a chapter and a book! And a nice nod to the prototype costume for Izuku. Time to say goodbye to it before the end of this arc.
Next time, I’ll try to get through all the bonus stuff for the end of the volume, and then we can get into the battle trial proper! Looking forward to that.
