I loved the finale but kinda wished hunter got to stomp belos too then sobs from happiness knowing it’s finally over or belos stuck in the between realm forever or reliving his worse nightmare as a fate worse than death

Honestly the finale felt so odd to me because we felt like were were getting setups that just were not given resolution in the finale.

And these are setups post cut, so these are things the writers had to have planned while knowing their time, which makes it more odd to me.

like at that point the focus should be to only set up things you are going to touch on and that come back into play, not add things you don't.

I personally don't think hunter needed to watch belos die, but when the show gave him new powers last episode i kinda expected them to like....come back in the finale?

like hunter's dash has no role in the finale at all, it was useful for the one scene he got regarding willow and gus and figuring out flapjack is with him and everything.....but it's one episode before the finale and it is completely forgotten after the fact outside of a couple dashes in the archive that are relatively minor.

and he ends up getting a new palsiman anyway so it just feels....off to me. I mean i was expecting him to get a new palisman but it now almost makes his dash a bit more irrelevant to even have.

kinda like how they kill glyphs, but we get glyphs at the end anyway so why the loss at all if it's not really going to stick?

honestly, let's ignore the fact the way belos died really should not have killed him for a second, Eda, Raine, and King are the characters with some of the least interactions with belos at all in the show.

Like his rule had affects on these characters and their loved ones and he did try to have eda killed, but when you think of belos' victims.....these three tend not to not be the first 3 you think of.

i kinda think the death would of been a little better if none of them jumped in and the rain just did it.

There was some minor set up for camilia or the other kids to help finish him off so i almost think it would've been more fitting if they were the ones to do it if we HAD to have that.

i dunno man, i've heard all the arguments for why belos's death works, and a lot of it seems to be rooted in the fact that "Belos is not complicated, he's evil, he doesn't need a big death and yada yada"

but it's like, it's not that belos isn't complicated, it's that the show seemed too afraid of making him complicated. I mentioned this in my last belos post but there's lots of evidence to suggest he's a more 3d character, because of how his story ties into the stories of other characters, because he symbolically represents what people who grow up in these oppressive systems can turn into. There's a lot of real potential for belos to stand out as a villian that comes from sympathetic origins but can't be forgiven or redeemed.

Which is a good lesson for kids, that people can come from bad spots but that doesn't mean you can forgive their actions.

Something that would be far more revolutionary and interesting and tie into the themes of this show much better.....then implying his depth, not committing to it and making him generic, and everyone praising this as if generic big bads who get killed aren't extremely common in most shows.

Su was a rare exception of redeeming a big bad, not the norm, and everyone seems to be under the weird vast impression it's the other way around. Unless you're a lacky, you die as a villain in pretty much every show.

But instead that gets replaced with "Well he did it cause he's inherently a bad person", even tho the show directly told us the audience that he was in indoctrinated child when it came to witch hunting, that this wasn't something he got into because he wanted to but because he NEEDED to survive in the town.

The show has plenty of set up and evidence that he does have something deeper to him but backed out of it for one reason or another.

And remember here, they were cut at ER, so they added this whole caleb backstory AFTER the cut, so even if were were to say they wanted belos to be deeper and changed their mind.....they added all the bits that implied depth AFTER the cut.

like frankly, in retrospect, if you want belos to just be an ozai metaphor esq character and not have any depth to his villainy at all, caleb should of been entirely cut.

Do something different with hunter, because having this half finished thing with caleb that is not relevant to belos's end at all feels like baiting the audience with complexity they never get.

You could of easily just reduced philip's backstory as just being this witch hunter who went missing years ago and that would be more fitting of making belos one note as they want him to be during the finale.

having all this drama with his brother leaving him for a witch and philip acting out in response feels strange to even implement if it's not even going to be touched on that much.

the show draws so much attention to it too, which makes it extra odd.

'They wanted to tell a story in the bg for the audience to figure out", ok, so that implied they want us to care about belos's origin....right??? So why not pay that off and reward those you got invested?

Having a little story to figure out is neat but not when its the basis for the plot and not when it's existence is gonna be boiled down to "Well none of this is relevant to why he became evil. He was just like that".

like having his backstory told like this could of been great, but the show ends saying belos is not complex and that none of this matters to why he's evil despite caleb clearly being important in why belos hates witches to begin with.

i might be less bothered if i knew the crew wanted to showcase the brother's story someday but they don't even seem to be high on the list of toh spinoff ideas.

it all feels like teasing a really compelling story that tied into the themes and then dropping it last minute. And now people are rewarding that because apparently now making villains just evil is revolutionary despite the fact this has been done to hell and back since the dawn of time.

Belos went from potentially being one of the most standout modern day antagonists, to being just like everyone else, and i'm not sure why everyone thinks that's supposed to be a good thing when we had the potential to look back at toh and reward them for diving into what can make people into a belos and the cautionary tale behind it.

and now instead of being memorable in that category for doing something interesting, he's just gonna be looped in with every other generic modern day big bad who represents this specific kind of evil.

If belos is not going to actually be allowed to be complex, don't bait the audience into thinking he is.

Is macaque alive and is he literal metaphor of Wukong like his a “clone” of Wukong or is he a complete separate being from from Wukong and just represents what evil Wukong can do.

Are yellow camel gang (forget their group name) still supplementing the demon warlords not like they do anything special all you have the DBK, speak of him is the jade face fox still around.

What is Mei doing to do the Samadi fire isn’t split up so what she got to do (the writers really fumble the ball with her well that happen when you are given 10 MINUTES PER EP LIKE WHAT HELL LEGO)? Speaking of the gang are they the same guys or are they still recantations?

What is this demon-human truce I keep hearing about how did it happen? After Wukong sealed DBK?

Is flower fruit mountain still in same place like in the show? Because I can see Wukong using his 10000 ft tall from to pick up all of FFM and pick up a big chunk of the fire ring mountains (I forgot the name of that place too) then place it in the middle of the ocean to be life alone. yes I know volcanoes don’t work like that but come on this world is all really violating the natural norms of our world so what’s one more violation.

OHO MANY QUESTIONS!! :DD

1. LBD makes an appearance but she's just a small fry yaojing like in JTTW, and more of a lackey then the big bad. she did get killed by Wukong but she escapes the Diyu with some help

2. Macaque also an escapee from the Diyu and takes role of bbg on S3. he's his own person, but he feels himself equal to Wukong in power and merit, and he resents him for being given the chance at Enlightenment. not that the option is never denied to him, he can do it on his own accord, but not if he can't gain fame and renown from it like Wukong did.

3. the Camel Ridge Trio aren't part of the Brotherhood, they're their own thing but they got deleted by Wukong in the journey and that's that lol his Brotherhood tho is still around in their own way, and they do resent him for ditching them for Heaven. they arent big bads in S4 but they get roped into a vengence plot by Macaque.

4. Jade Faced Fox as well as the Immortal Compliant are still around but they're on PIF's side while DBK got sealed away. They got only minor roles though villains of the week demons for MK, like Yin and Jin.

5. IM TAKING MEI AND GIVING HER A FIX UP MAKEOVER!!!!! She's overall still like her S1 self, but her arc is more tied to her dragon ancestry than stealing Red Son's thunder. the Samadhi Fire isn't a McGuffin hot potato in S3, her arc is about learning to master her water and weather manipulation powers, and learning how to fly on her own. Chinese dragons need a "protusion" in their head to fly which im just reworking as its an age thing, so best she can do half the time is hop around on clouds, and since Megapolis in is a desert and has weather control.... not much chance to stretch herself. Also she has a full proper dragon form, not just a floating hologram form.

6. the gang is not reincarnations of the pilgrims, the lads are all in their celestial posts post-JTTW and they make some appearances here and there, mostly in a support role. Tang is one of Tripitaka's disciples who also got given a few reincarnations as a mortal to build merit and cultivation. Wukong saw that and went "hey yknow what would be really funny?" and so pilgrim group electric boogaloo happens xD

7. after the journey, Wukong became a boddhisattva, and helped over the years to build trust between humans and demons, proving that they can not only coexist but support each other. Megapolis was the first mixed city to be built as proof-of-concept that a demon-human truce could work, and after a few decades, the truce was codified into law both in the mortal and celestial realm. basically demons will be treated as equals among humans if they don't eat or kill humans, and they can be redeemed if they choose to drop a warlord's lifestyle after community service and reparations are given. to maintain the peace, quite a few immortals keep an eye on the mortal realm for any breaches on that truce, so it can be investigated and punished accordingly.

8. JSBDHSHDJHD TRUE THAT!! But FFM is not sealed away so zealously, everyone knows Wukong didn't vanish, he just went to the celestial realm to work as an intermediate between mortals and immortals and yknow, boddishattva duties. FFM got plucked closer to the shore, and after Megapolis was properly established, it even got a few tourist traps along the shores. there are still monkey yaoguai living there quite happily, those villages we see arent deserted, and sometimes scholars and pilgrims are allowed to climb the mountain for an escorted visit. its pretty lively there!

My villain origin story is that there’s legitimate issues with the teen wolf’s movie’s writing (apart from a race issue by the movie revolving around Japanese lore and no Japanese character) yet everyone shuts it down by saying “you are just a stiles fanboy shut up” (which btw i think someone purposely misgendered me???? But idc) or “the writing of the show was never top tier anyways” bc like

1) idc for dylan that much tbh???? Of course i wanted stiles but the movie could have been fine without him. He is however still a core character. They fucked up all his dynamics and it felt more like a punishment to his character for dylan not coming back rather than good writing. Because why did scott, his brother, the MAIN relationship of this show, never even addressed him????? Why are we expected to believe he let lydia go even tho she still loves him?????? How does he not know derek and his child when his dad still lives there, he just never visits his dad????? Thats fucking ridiculous ???? They could have just said lydia told him to focus on work and not come back in order to avoid getting his possessed again and not relive his biggest trauma. And that would have been good enough??? And have eli know him because is such bs that stiles doesn’t visit his father???? And have scott simply saying “i just talked to stiles on the phone. Told him we were good. Didn’t want to worry him” like BARE MIN THEY DIDNT NEED DYLAN THERE. But fucking up ALL his dynamics and relationships when he is a core character in order also kinda fucks up all the other characters and is BS???

2) the og show was never top tier writing, but if the potential was always at a 50% then the movie has to have that or more. Not less. And it gave less. It was a mess so obviously ppl will have critics of it regardless of Dylan’s character being there or not.

3) character wise no one benefitted from this movie except scott and allison, and not even because scott WHO IS THE MAIN CHARACTER barely touched on any other dynamic that wasn’t allison. Which is ridiculous.

4) whole thing is on Japanese lore on a character that ON THE SHOW comes from a concentration camp and created by kira’s mom, yet kira is never mentioned, and there’s absolutely no Japanese character or kitsune being relevant to the story. Which is bs??? Like Liam’s gf is there for 2 seconds and not relevant whatsoever.

5) which brings me to, liam and mason??? Why are they there??? Both of them and liam’s gf are literally so irrelevant???? They are just there to say they brought them back????????? Which is a shame bc so much could have been done???????

6) malia is literally stuck in life and that wasn’t even a plot????? She wears the exact same outfits from high school and in a relationship with a grown man who has known her since she was a minor and he wasn’t (side eye) and her character never goes through any sort of arc to realize she wants more???????????? Her character was already done dirty in s6 and this even more????? Girl came to the world in s3 after being stuck as an animal and never grew out of HS and thats!??? Never addressed??????

7) derek’s arc was shit??? All he did pass down his family trauma (seeing them burn) to his son. And why is eli’s happy ending that he got adopted by scott and allison??? WHERE IS HIS MOTHER??? HIS AUNT CORA????? Allison just came back to the world she should barely get in a relationship when mentally she doesn’t know life outside of HER JUNIOR YEAR OF HS. LET ALONE BE MOTHER TO A HIGH SCHOOLER????!!!?????

I could literally keep going????? It feels like character wise this movie was a set back and a fuck up of all characters and all dynamics rather than something to push the story forward. So yes. It was AWFUL writing. Regardless if Dylan was there or not. They could have done amazing without dylan still but they didn’t. They focused more only of the allison x scott ship and punishing dylan by fucking up his character.

All that said the acting (of most) is still really good!! So it makes sense some people enjoyed it. There’s angst, fave nostalgic characters coming back, and good chemistry/acting between them. But for people (like me) that wanted something for the characters it wasn’t good. Its stupid to try shutting down valid criticism by saying “you are just a dylan fanboy” because that also implies ignoring the whole issue with kira and racism too.

Reminds me of a post i saw here saying “the teen wolf fandom kinda deserved better but they have also always been super racist so maybe they don’t” the day the movie came out and shdjjdjd sad bc i want better but is kinda true😭 y’all either completely ignoring the real life issue with arden and the show taking japan culture while simultaneously fucking up their asian characters to benefit the white ones, or completely ignore the real issues with writing and say “fuck scott” to put stiles in a pedestal when in reality lil brown scott is as essential to the franchise as stiles. BOTH are the core of the show. And you can keep the core without the actor by at least addressing him, not trying to push him out like the movie intended. Aaaah i have so much shit to say and complain about but whatever. Shit is not canon to me either ways. Just gonna hope for better for wolf pack bc it looks promising. Altho kinda hesitating about wanting to give jeff davis my coins tbh.

Crouching in the back of the warehouse on the docks, you held your breath, trying to inhale and exhale as silently as possible, dead set on not being caught. If you could just catch him by surprise, be the one who brings in The Riddler, you could secure your status as a vigilante to rival Batman, or seem worthy enough to work with him.

You wanted to impress him so badly, to feel like you were good enough to share a space with him, to do the kind of good work he did. Which is why you had gone after The Riddler yourself. A stupid mistake. Because from the moment he sensed that someone was paying attention to him, Edward Nashton had been starry-eyed and obsessed.

First, the greetings cards, then the romantic riddles left at the crime scenes. And now he was following you back. And while sure, that did come in handy when the person who is always there when you turn around is the one you’re trying to capture, it was still unnerving to have to be on edge. He was a determined, weird little guy, and despite your best efforts, you were cornered, lured into a trap of his making.

“Here, kitty, kitty.”

He was searching desperately for you, and you could hear the irritation in his voice. The patronising tone made your blood boil. He really thought this was a game. You wondered if it was possible that this was his plan. To aggravate you, get you emotionally wound up enough that you would be easy to take down. The months of horrendously creepy attempts at flirting made more sense in that context.

“I know you’re in here…Stop ignoring me! I can smell you in the air, that specific scent. What kind of vigilante makes sure to have a signature smell? One who is desperate to leave a trail for me to follow."

Having a bit of a temper tantrum, you could hear boxes being thrown around, crates getting kicked. A loud crash followed by a shriek and a moan. Sitting still, you resisted the urge to run and help. After all, this could have been part of the trap. A few feeble groans, a weak plea for help. You were supposed to be the hero, you couldn’t ignore a cry for help, regardless who it was from.

Stepping out from the hiding spot, you followed the sounds of shuffling to find him, The Riddler, pinned to the ground under a large wooden crate, his leg crushed under a piece of it.

“Ha! You are here!”

“Is now the time to gloat, Riddler?”

You lifted the crate, his eyes widening at your obvious strength, cheeks blushing as he smiled.

“My hero.”

There wasn’t a single note of sarcasm behind it. He really was obsessed.

“You got my note! You solved the riddle! You came here, to be mine. You’re so clever, much more clever than you look.”

“Is that supposed to woo me?”

“Well, I’m hardly going to spit out ridiculous sentiments like we’re in a romance novel. What do you want me to say? ‘You’re my whole world, my Goddess. You're more than divine, you’re celestial.’ That doesn’t fit my brand!”

“Is it how you feel though?”

“No! That’s silly. But…I do think you’re pretty. And you solved all my riddles. There’s a connection there somewhere, even if you can’t see it yet.”

“You can tell me all about it on the way to Arkham then.”

He got up willingly, giddy even, at the prospect of getting to be your passenger. So much so that your nerves were on edge as he clung to your arm, getting into the car and sitting patiently. Smiling at you as you drove. Eyes trailing down your body, fixated on your fingers when they gripped around the gear stick, licking his lips and inhaling sharply.

It wasn't pleasant, but at least he had come easily. In fact, it was suspiciously easy to capture him, and it couldn’t just be put down to his crush on you. Something was definitely wrong, and maybe the connection you shared with him was responsible for the warning signals shooting through your senses.

sooo i finally watched invader zim enter the florpus!! i was gonna wait until i finished the comics first but then i saw that apparently clembrane appears in the comics after the movie?? and i didnt want to risk getting spoiled bc yknow. the movie is when he First Appears so i thought id watch it before picking the comics back up again.

anyway, here r my thoughts on the movie down below!!

it was....pretty good!! there were a LOT of positives for me, but ultimately one major thing that i really wish could have been done better (but we'll get to that in a bit). again, i liked it, i thought it was a good movie! im gonna list all the things i especially liked followed by the things that kinda bothered me a bit so bear with me lol

positivies:

i know this is an Unpopular Opinion, but i actually rly like the art style!! i still think the show's designs r better, but i rly RLY liked how vibrant and smooth the animation was in this film. plus movies based on animated series already tend to have a slightly different art style anyway (the spongebob movies and the mlpfim movie come to mind) so i didnt mind the change. add to that the fact that this movie came out 17 years after the shows cancellation and its no wonder that jhonen vasquez's art has changed since then, plus i'd imagine there was a much bigger art/animation team this time around. anyway ofc i rly loved the part where they Enter The Florpus (lol get it) and go thru all the different art/animation styles, i loooovee stuff like that and i think every animated production should do smth like that at least once solely bc i love it so much. for me

clembrane is rly funny and i love him. im glad hes here now. dib and gaz have TWO dads

PROF. MEMBRANE WAS SO FUCKING COOL????? like omg i was NOT expecting him to be so badass in this???? when he shot the giant fucking Laser Blast out of his arms and wiped out all those robots my jaw DROPPED i was in SHOCK!!!! he was hiding all that power this whole time????? DAMN no wonder hes considered one of the most important scientists on earth

the humor was really fucking funny as always w iz LOLLLL there were multiple points that made me laugh out loud. special shoutout to the callback they made to mortos der soulstealer where zim and dib are yelling at each other and zim keeps going "WHAT????" ASKDJALSKDJ thats one of my fav jokes from the show so im glad they did that here

gir aka my fav was SOOO CUUUTEEE his stupid little peace song was so funny and adorable, i love p much everything he does in this movie as usual SDKJFLDSKJ gir my beloved

even if i have some issues w it (which we'll get to shortly), i DO like seeing that dibs family really do care for him, particularly prof. membrane. hearing him say he was proud of dib did make me smile

im not entirely sure how i feel abt the tallests canonically dying, but i do think its a funny way to kill them off and end their story. like.....ofc they die bc theyre too entitled to steer their spaceship. what else would they die from SAKFJLSDKJ

all that being said, there was one major thing that kind of bugged me a bit, as well as a few minor nitpicks.

negatives:

starting off with my biggest issue, and this might be a confusing one for some, but let me explain: in my opinion, compared to the show, this movie felt just a bit too.....sanitized? "feel-good"-ish? ....happy?? now just hear me out. a large part of what made invader zim so appealing, especially to that older tween/young teen crowd (many of whom fell into the emo subculture), is the fact that, compared to other kids cartoons at the time and even today, it was a very mean-spiritied, cynical, pessimistic show. the main protagonist is a villain trying to take over the world. his rival is the show's antagonist, so audiences may find themselves rooting against him even tho hes trying to save the world. gaz is on no one's side but her own and frequently bullies her brother and does not care what happens to zim. and it works!! thats a key factor in why so many people, myself included, like the show. it isnt afraid to have unhappy/unsatisfying endings, and there are very few "happy" moments (aside from gir, ofc, who is a fan favorite for this reason; his happiness in spite of the dark world around him is a great source of irony and genuine enjoyment). and i feel like this movie lacks a lot of that cynicism and bitterness from the show, yknow? like....i like dib and i want him to succeed, but part of his appeal is knowing that he never will, or at least not in the way he wants. we want dib's family to recognize him, we want gaz to show that she still loves him, and we want prof. membrane to say that hes proud of him. but.....invader zim is not really the type of show. i understand that this is ofc a movie for kids, but again, part of what made the show so appealing was the fact that it was so dark WHILE still being for kids. the closest thing we get to any kind of "mean-spiritedness" is the tallests deaths, which, while deserved and executed in a funny way, only happens at the end. idk i just felt like this movie was kinda....playing it "safe" compared to the show it was based on yknow. but thats just my opinion idk i swear im not one of those "WHOA look at how DARK and EDGY this show is!!! that proves that its NOT FOR KIDS" types, i just feel like the overall tone was a bit lacking compared to the source material

NOW onto the nitpicks!! these werent rly major flaws that interfered w my enjoyment of the movie, just stuff that mildly irked me (lol get it). for starters i wish tak was there :( i know she was originally planned to be in the movie but they had to cut her for time constraints which is fair. still i miss her so much. tak my beloved come back to me

another nitpick, but pretty much the only other thing that i didnt like abt this movie and its SUPER minor: i dont like how frequently gaz's eyes are open throughout this movie?? but errmm yeah!! despite the block of text i just wrote i still rly liked this movie!! in terms of continuations to the show, however, i think i prefer the comics, although again i have not finished reading them. i just feel like theyre closer in attitude to the original show and have a lot more interesting story ideas. but again, this movie is not bad!! there were a lot of things i rly do like abt it!! im pretty easy to please tbh.

Ok, I'm not necessarily disagreeing with ur "anti-intellectual" point, but I would like to add my 2 cents to things. Firstly, percy is asked to dumb shit down bc there are multiple times when he's using, like, scientific terms that most ppl wouldn't understand so people litterally have to ask for him to dumb it down so they can explain. That exact scenario has happened to me. Also there is a time and place for infodumping and mid-disaster is not the time, coming from an autistic person. Secondly, I would argue that the reason he's withdrawn in MTMTE and whatnot isn't because he got told to shut up constantly, its b/c he's part of the Wreckers, and the Wreckers did and saw some fucked up shit and they're all fucking traumatized. Preceptor is withdrawn because he's traumatized, and trauma changes a person. If IDW were truly anti-intellectual then Brainstorm would have never gotten his redemption, for example. That's just my two cents, and also I would argue that Swerve is not a "jock." Swerve was a metallurgist, basically he helped protoforms form their bodies after a spark was placed in it, and that had to take a good degree of skill and intelligence. The tfwiki litterally says on his page "Despite this [him having a short attention span], he's quite intelligent and skilled as a metallurgist, analysing the properties of a material with unique sensors in his hands. When he gets caught up in a problem, he becomes almost laser-like in focus and intensity, going on quest after quest, both major and minor." There are a lot of characters that are a lot more intelligent than we would initially know, mostly in specific areas, you just have to read between the lines and not take them and their personalities at face value. That's all I'm gonna say, you are free to disagree, I just wanted to make those points :) I do agree that Prowl could have been handled better tho. The fact that, in his confrontation with Chromedome ,he's supposed to be the "bad guy," despite having EVERY REASON to be pissed at Chromedome, never sat right with me. Chromedome is litterally an asshole, he forcefully took prowls memories without his consent (which is extremely violating,) and I'm pretty sure he did it MULTIPLE times. Prowl litterally gets hurt so many times, like when he got FORCEFULLY MADE INTO A COMBINER (which I think is shown to hurt/traumatize him), and basically never gets any help whatsoever. Prowl DEFINIATELY deserved better. He can still be a rude little shit, just give him a support group and some therapy. Please. Let him have some friends, some healthy relationships, etc. :(

So, in my point of view, nothing you wrote there counters my opinion that the writing is anti-intellectual. Literally the back bone of the comics is the intelligent characters being the villains, the ultimate screw ups, smart people that only ever do dumb, crazy or bad things. They are comic relief. And when the stars should, they don't stop and listen to them.

Soldiers are not by in large stupid people. IDW has managed to portray them as such in a huge way. Most of the intelligence perceived in characters in IDW comes out in fanfic and fan theory more than in the action comics and that also makes my point in it being bad writing. Saying someone is smart as a writer but portraying them as a fool is awful storytelling, the showing vs telling argument.

The violent characters, the dumbass characters save the day, every fucking time. It's so tedious.

Sjm being so reckless with this series that people no longer trusting her to do right by it is so hilarious to me. Like she needs to tap into whatever she was on when she wrote acomaf and get to work. My biggest fear is waiting years for this book just for it to be complete trash.

And I agree the way Mass’ writing (when it comes to acotar) has regressed since the main series, especially acomaf, is staggering. The issues with Feyre books are more minor or little annoying things while the issues with acosf are…insane. The excuses the main characters makes for her own behavior, ignoring plot lines in prior books, throwing in details that directly goes against what was said in prior books, the lackluster romance that seemed so much better when it was seen from the pov of someone else. I just wonder if when sjm’s editors were reading acosf for the first time, they ignored everything that was blatantly wrong with it because “oh smut🤩”.

Honestly I don’t think it would happen but if Elain and Azriel do end up I’m some drama with Feysand I’m siding with Feysand idc.

And I haven’t started CC yet. I’ve seen a few spoilers but I can’t really judge Bryce’s personality right now.

Unearthed Revision - Chapter 6 Notes

If you haven’t read Chapter 6 of the Unearthed Revision, read it here! This post is gonna have some behind the scenes details and minor spoilers for the chapter it’s about.

Woof, I forgot to post this. I have art I’m gonna scan tomorrow, hopefully more engaging than these posts. Art is harder for me these days but it’s still fun!

Minor spoilers ahead!

Where to begin. I definitely put off this chapter until last minute, as you can tell by the timing. But I really do like it. It’s probably the most adjusted chapter of the rewrite so far, with a lot more character changes and such.

One of the biggest things I’ve changed is Max in general--as I’ve gotten older it’s really hit me that Max failed Ben in a lot of ways as one of his main parental figures and Ben is going to be facing repercussions because of it. Max isn’t some comical villain or anything, just a man who makes mistakes and falls into old habits.

Part of this is specified when Max makes a decision and no one but Rook--who has the most to lose being a Plumber under his command, but the least personal relation to Max--stood up to him when they disagreed. Gwen even thinks about how she admired the move.

I kinda hated this chapter to begin with when writing. I don’t know, something about it felt off to me. Coming back to it now I feel much more confident in the writing. Also, it’s one of the more extreme rewrites in the way of word count and context.

A small change included me changing the degree to which Rook’s smelling was advanced in comparison to humans. When I first wrote the chapter I think I just googled “Cat smelling compared to human” or something like that, but I changed it a bit to be less extreme. (Rook still suffered tho, RIP.)

Was the lock put in a plastic bag by the perpetrator for any specific reason?

In universe, it was because they needed to act fast and make sure they had all the pieces of the lock to avoid showing a trail, like dropping a component on their way to the garbage bay.

In reality? Nah, honestly. It was just convenience. I don’t know if you all have taken apart relatively simple mechanics like a light switch cover, but the more high tech you get the harder it is to take care of every individual thing. I imagine the Plumber locks are rather complex, so as an author I knew that the lock would be properly ruined if the perp had just tossed it or smashed it. I’ll be the first to admit it was a shortcut.

A thing to notice about this chapter are the steps forward and back at the same time. Yes, they now know that the person who changed the locks didn’t need a particularly high intelligence to use the jammer on the faux look, but now that means they’re low on filters again. To keep the bummer of that realization from lingering, the story provides another prompt to follow instead.

I went through this chapter and the past couple to make sure I kept using “Gwendolyn” and not “Gwen.” Around minute four is when the name “Gwen” stopped looking real to me.

Fun fact. Ben makes sure to use her full name, as she prefers it now, but Max continues to call her “Gwen.” The only time Ben called her “Gwen” is when he was thinking of the past, having needed a pick-me-up in Chapter 3. Perhaps it’s similar for Max, being stuck in the past. (Kevin, however, gets an excuse. They’re dating. It’s a different vibe.)

I believe in tooth decay he dismisses her when she gets ganged up on and has her teeth smashed? Like it’s more “I’m disappointed and it’s sad it came to this but oh well!”. Idk I think I’m in the minority when I say I sometimes feel they used Buttercup in the most extreme punishment episodes (broken teeth, kicked out for not taking a bath, etc.) which is fair in a way. She is tough! I just think it would’ve been nice to have a moment where he genuinely comforts her and then the lesson is taught well and stays applied. Like the episode where she controls her anger (which was funny cause were these not the same girls who constantly punched villains senseless? i get the idea they were going for, which was a good one, it just would’ve been better had they not been hypocrites about it lol).

I get it with the exploring outside one’s preferred ship. I typically agree and I love seeing people play around with the characters. I just can’t do it with the greens though I’m sorry those are soulmates in my book there’s no one else w/o ruining their characters.

I think you're right about tooth decay now that I'm really thinking about it. And honestly, I can see where you're coming from with the harshest punishment episodes. I guess I just like them because they ended up giving us so much more to work with when it comes to Buttercup! But really looking reflecting on the show, she didn't seem to have much one-on-one time with the Professor, which is a shame because I think she'd be a good daddy's girl lol

It'd actually be interesting to explore their relationship more. Sometimes, I like to think that their relationship would be the most strained as she gets older, not because they want it to be that way but because they don't have much in common. Still, we know the professor was a piece of shit little kid until he met the girls, so maybe he could relate to her aggression!

if the reboot actually goes through, fingers crossed we get some family bonding <3

who the hell is edgar?: is it cringy? MAYBE but it's fun OH THE CHANT DAMN. like the music, even though it's upbeat and electro, suits the vibe of possession and horror. even without the chant (though that was sick). which the last song was missing in the first verse. look. early favourite tbh. thanks austria! (the 'who the hell is edgar?' at the end took me out tho ngl)

breaking my heart: it's not bad. it's cute! it reminds me of something i would do warmups to in dance class!! (not a bad thing at all). the texture drop and tight harmonies is done really well. if you described this to me i'd probably expect to hate it but i'm vibing!

so far when i looked up which country each entry was from i wasn't super surprised. idk what that says but i'm saying it.

tattoo: i know this is loreen. thing is i didn't get the hype for euphoria so we'll see. it reminds me of something? oh it's kinda got greatest showman vibes in the chorus. not really in the verse but. also the pre-chorus does remind me a little of church music (like hillsong music). instrumental reminds me of the slow part of love is blind (lithuania 2012). i think people will probably really like this, i think it's mid.

queen of kings: yeah this one was an early favourite of mine i've already listened to it. it just musically gives me dark fantasy vibes and energises me, you know?? very disappointed the studio version doesn't include the italian and latin chanting, but it's still like a great song to run to (i don't run). i was a little concerned about if she'd be able to pull of the vocals live (based only on the studio version) but when i watched her melodi grand prix version she fucking slayed

unicorn: i love the epic intro, it was kinda too much of a drop for me when the singer came in. pre-chorus feels a bit basic (***for my tastes) or is it the chorus idk but it reminds me of the circus climax of madagascar 3. the phenonamal part is a bop, and i really do like the ending part!!! the first half just wasn't my taste as much (aside from that beginning instrumentation)

if it's not on spotify, i wasn't bothered to listen to it (but ofc i will eventually!!). honestly this feels like a pretty good year (to meeeee) but not the highest quality ballads/slow songs (i know there's a difference, but for the sake of eurovision, no there's not)

•He's bisexual and literally the most closeted man to ever exist. He's the type to laugh at the homophobic comments his friends and coworkers make, and even make some of those comments himself, it's a learned defensive habit. I'm not trying to make him super angsty or anything, he just gives me mega bi energy. I don’t think he grew up in a particularly abusive or neglectful household, just the kind of environment where people in his family/community would make gay jokes because they honestly didn’t think anyone around them was gay. And I can’t see a prison in the early 2010’s as being the most accepting place either, so he’s just learned to keep certain things to himself, and hope those feelings he has about men sometimes just go away on their own.

*sighs* Huntlow is a perfectly cute ship that's still important representation regardless if either char is queer or not, and if it ended up canon it would not ruin the queerness of the show nor would it be "horrible rushed writing". There are clear hints for a romantic angle plus it's been directly paralleled to both Lumity & Caleb/Wittewife, and after everything the show has been through & did for queer rep it's fucking nuts people are this mad over something minor. No one has to like x pairing but it's honestly depressing to see these complaints so often.

1. How I feel about this character:

I'm an outlier in that I always loved Lilith, even after S1 first ended and so much of the fandom hated her (for good reason tho). Her friendship with Hooty means so much to me and was so funny to see start

The tragedy of her relationship with Eda is just. Ah. It kills. Lifelong damage that she can't ever take back from a moment of weakness caused by the world Belos made, but she was able to lessen the load of it and through that finally starts to really understand & sympathize with her sister and work to rebuild their relationship after decades

4. My unpopular opinion about this character:

I don't think it was bad writing that Luz so easily forgave Lilith at the start of S2, that fits Luz's character so much to think of transgressions against herself so lightly and focus more on the ones against Eda -- but since Eda also easily forgave Lilith bc that also fits her character so much, Luz would follow Eda's lead there. That said I'm gonna write a fic about the hard apology Lilith gave Luz offscreen

...I will say, I hope this doesn't come off as mealy-mouthed apologia, but since that post made me think of it now is as good a time as ever to talk about the ways in which people boost fucked up shit with stuff they agree with.

Cause, the thing is, people on this site reblog a lot of fucked up shit to get to the good points (Or what they percieve as such), but inadvertently spread the fucked up shit.

Like, I see this a lot in my pet issue, where people I otherwise like and respect boost the shitty "fandom bad" stuff that I think has its own horrifying underlying view/ideas (Tho that's its own post) because it addresses their feelings about... well, what I'd call the Funko-ization of culture/the Fandom-Industrial-Complex, but that definition is also for its own post.

I usually avoid confronting them on it even as I have flat-out panic attacks due to them, because A)...I am terrified of being perceived as an invasive creep over that, but more relevantly B) I have no idea what they reblogged it about and whether it was in good faith.

Like, apocalypticromantic666's response was the... turbo-unhinged and horrible "Children who engage in self-advocacy are ungrateful little brats who shouldn't talk back at their elders" part. I'll probably explain why in a reblog of this, because that would double the length of this already-bloated post.

But @headspace-hotel wasn't directly talking about that part of the post, she was responding to a later post about a kind of Guy that popped in.

Which, given in the context and what I know of her, I have no idea whether or not she agrees with the horrid parts, and that's the thing that brought this up in my mind. that's kinda a big flaw with how Tumblr handles conversation.

I have no idea how to handle it in good faith, but if I discuss this with headspace-hotel (Which I invite her to do, hence why I @-ed her) it would be privately and politely because...

...yeah, apocalypticromantic666's part of that post was indeed a horrifying moment of Roald-Dahl-villain-esque hatred for minors in a way that deeply disturbs me, but I have no idea whether headspace-hotel was endorsing that part when she did, and that also disturbs me on a different level...

A: Grey Boy is depressingly(?) close to a childhood OC of mine, though far more OP since I didn't have that "invincible and also eternally young and clean" aspect to it.

B: Circus is a great magical girl that only needs a mascot and I'd love to know what they're like when in civilian form.

C: Mouse Protector is a lot of enthusiastic cringe about much of my childhood and the childhoods of some of my contemporaries, and also Droopy Dog--a cartoon character I hate.

D: Night. I love the synergy between Night and Fog/Purity, and just the way Night fights in general.

E: There's a member of maybe the fallen--can't remember who or whether it came up in PRT Quest or in Ward--that when they speak people listen. That's it; the words compel attention above and beyond all else. I feel like this would be a nightmare power for me to have and would both "solve" my problems and also do so in the worst possible way and so it's probably the one I'd get.

F: I think about Coil a lot. Remember that crappy-but-fun Nicholas Cage movie "Next"? It's kind of Coil.

G: I should bring up Taylor but…do you like the color of the sky? Which Taylor? Her powerset evolves and grows so much. At the start? It takes her seven or more arcs to realize she can disguise herself with bugs, and she STILL isn't using them to track where the bullies are (or who is around her) on a 24/7 basis and this is silly of her. Side note: If I ever write a Taylor/Sophia it'll be called "Nosee'um" probably. Not sure I'd do that, but I know how it starts. (And ends.) Anyway, it's really the administration and surveyal part of her power I particularly envy. I can't chase two rabbits at once and sometimes not even one, but she could herd billions.

H: (heh) Grue is actually amazing and especially after his second trigger. There's a fanfic out there where he goes solo and grimdark and he captures evil capes and saps their power, slowly making himself a very strong grab-bag cape. He had Viktor chained up in his basement to facilitate this. Speaking of H.

I: Screamer is amazing. Imitating voices perfectly and making them seem to come from anywhere? A whole nonviolent origin story just for her would be fun.

J: Accord. I want more Cenotaph, and it's half because I want more Accord.

K: Edict. Edict has a mystery power where if you don't do what she says you get a minor temporary curse? Someone with a weak unremarkable power having to make it work and maybe figuring out how to make it super good actually? Sounds familiar in a good way. I want more.

L: Mama Mathers is a nightmare villain; one of those things that make you wonder how they could ever lose even more than Coil does.

M: Roulette's power is great for something I might give someone in a TTRPG. Useful, game-directing, but not gamebreaking. …super frustrating, though.

N: Alexandria's memory, tho…

O: Weld. Weld's powers, with someone else at the helm? Could be so gender. SO gender.

P: Golem. But only in a lewd way. Or home decoration. Or both at the same time.

Q: Sanguine could apparently look great in red, dish out damage to Behemoth, and just walk around and cure people of bloodborne illnesses, sort of like Panacea could do, if she'd just cut loose a bit (there's no reason she couldn't make a steady stream of non-self-replicating cancerphage/virii emitters with finite lifespans. She could walk into a hospital, focus for a bit, then relax and read a book while her creations did all the work.

R: Myrrdin because it really feels like he had to study and scheme to build his "spells" and maybe in a way indistinguishable from

S: Big Picture can stop and think about someone as long as they want.

T: Semiramis. With that power someone could keep a car, house, or a rare book in good condition. Not to mention people.

U: Engel? I mean, supernaturally pretty and compelling?

V: Flor is hilarious.

W: Horizon's power includes Xray vision? And the rest is just some punchy-boom? That's the kind of weak powerset I'd love to see get explored.

X: Blindside (Even more fun than Nice Guy!)

Y: I love Regent. Hijack is fun too, but Regent's power was great and he used it so effectively!

I can think of a few!

For starters, I know a lot of the art I wanna make for Twisted Hero Story is gonna be HELLLLLLL because a lot of the heroes and villains have very complicated costumes for their aliases/jobs. You can already see the level of detail for Castiel/Fallen Angel so haha yeah im fucked the day I wanna draw them in costume-

Then there's ones like Rhite, who has the heart design on his jacket that I gotta replicate when I draw him. And Sunue who has the raccoon tail sideburns that I LOVE but phew boy thats a lot of detail for one doodle yknow? I also really wanna draw Francis but I gotta change his eyes because for some reason they bother me sooo much, but I just never give him his minor redesign fghj

Zeo and lowkey any oc of mine that has visible cheekbones is a bit of a struggle for me because I often find myself thinking "Ok that doesn't look right at all." and I have to redo the cheekbones like 1000 times before I'm finally satisified with it ghjk it mostly comes down to how it affects the face! Like how it affects the position of the eyes, nose, mouth, expressions, etc I think I'm way better at it tho so hopefully.
