This is like. Actually my favourite show why is this so much harder than ranting about what I hate about it lmaooo I have too much of a hater’s heart…

Well, we all know why I’m really here. Petrelli Family Drama. What can I say I just love a completely fucked up messy family full of secrets and toxic codependent relationships, especially if they’re like, fuckin rich Catholic superpowered mobsters?? The flavour. The layers. As an avowed Nathan Petrelli apologist, everything about that incredibly repressed man and his 92 layers of self loathing and moral confusion is catnip to me, lol. The best bits of s3 are the Arthur backstory and how he literally tried to murder Nathan in cold blood for attempting to stand up to him. And then mother of the year (read: terrible person and terrible mother but crazily enmeshed with Nathan anyway) Angela tried and nearly succeeded in murdering HIM in return!! She’s so metal!! Lmao these bitches are crazy! Tim King across the board!!

And ofc how that feeds into Nathan and Peter’s relationship, how they cling to each other in this insane way bc of growing up in all *gestures* THAT. the implications of that treehouse deleted scene mr Kring when I get you. We’re connected. You give me Nathan you give him back to me body and soul. Sicko meme me: YES!! YESS!!! this was made in a lab to consume my brain from age 12 until. Now. (I’m 30 in a week lmao. Oh my god.)

Goes without saying that s1 is also genuinely a great season of television like it’s well constructed and written and built up and ends in an insane emotionally devastating way. not many notes tbh. Six months ago is great flashback episodes my beloved flashforward episodes my beloathed.

But uhh surprisingly back to my mostly beloathed s3, let me shout out ‘into asylum’ as one of the best episodes in the entire show?? We rarely get Claire+Nathan relationship stuff but I fucking love everything they do with them in that episode. Also shout out to Claire for being a great character and a fucking badass girl I love you babygirl

Nathan Petrelli my terrible DILF son who I love. Idk I have many complicated feelings about him but all of them are love somehow (kinda like Peter)

Funniest character:

All the characters have their moments actually. Sylar can be pretty funny when he's leaning into the whole villain thing instead of trying to be redeemed. Angela is such an unashamedly bad bitch it's pretty hilarious. Claire has her moments when she calls people out or acts recklessly. Peter is usually unintentionally funny. Mohinder's sarcasm is also pretty fun. Ohhh I nearly forgot Rene, who's hilarious because he just does not give a shit. He does what he wants, because what's the Company gonna do? Haitian him? Oh, wait...

Best-looking character:

Mohinder, duh. (But also Nathan)

3 favourite ships:

Nathan/Peter and, uhhh...Claire/Gretchen, part of me wants to say Elle/Sylar bc it was pretty fun while it lasted but Sylar doesn't deserve happiness so...Elle/people who actually care about her

Least favourite character:

Sylar for all the times they try and redeem him and make him a poor little meow meow and make him into something he's not (he can just be a villain! Please just let him be a villain! He's fun as a villain!). But also me and Anni have just been watching season 4 and ohhhh my god, Samuel is the most annoying whiny bitch ever, he's so pathetic and bedraggled but not even in a fun way. He doesn't deserve his cracked black nail polish. Put it back. Give it to Peter.

Least favourite ship:

Sylaire is probably the ship that squicks me out the most. LEAVE HER ALONE!

Because it makes me crazyyyyy. Also so I can see Nathan's sexy fluffy hair in season 2.

@judasisgayriot made me. Jk, she made me watch s1, I was fairly meh on it, then one cold November night during the pandemic I said 'lol, let's watch season 2 of Heroes just 'cause.' And then I saw Nathan with fluffy hair and a beard crying into his whisky at a bar and I've never been the same since.

Loki and Mobius were sitting across from each other, staring intensely at Mobius’s life file placed at the center of the table.

Sylvie was standing in between them on the other side of the table, her neon pink hair, shoulder-length, hands crossed across her chest.

“So, are we ready to play the file?” Sylvie broke the pin-drop silence.

Mobius shakes his head. “No, I’m not ready for this yet,” he replied.

“Mobius!” Loki exclaims, exasperated. “We’ve been over this a million times!”

“I know, I know, it’s just- what if you know? What if something goes wrong? What if I’m better off without knowing my life? There’s so many what if’s” Mobius said, rubbing his palms on his pants.

“Mobius! We agreed to do this,” Loki said.

“Okay, okay fine,” Mobius replied, frowning.

Sighing, Sylvie picked up the file and put it inside the projector(the thing the file plays out of. Idk what it’s called exactly?).

She pressed the play button and the yellow pixels came together to form a picture of the beach. The scene suddenly changed to a cottage surrounded by coconut trees.

A loud cry came from inside the cottage.

The trio was now looking at this scene;

a woman who looked to be about 55 years cradling a newborn baby, tears streaming down her face, looking at a lifeless body in front of her.

“I’ll take care of him, I promise, Claire.” She sobbed.

The same woman that was cradling the baby, was now on her knees, hands extended in front of her, encouraging the baby to take his first steps towards her.

“Yes Mobius!” She said as little Mobius stumbled, trying to catch himself when he put one foot in front of another.

“Come on!” She said,

Little Mobius tried taking another step towards her, slowly, placing one foot in front of another. Eventually, finding out how to do it, he went faster.

When he was two steps in front of his grandmother, he tripped and was about to fall flat on his face, but his grandmother caught him before he could hurt himself.

“Yes, Mobius! You did it! You just took your first steps! Your mom would be so proud of you!”

Mobius’s grandmother was now sitting on the porch of the cottage, reading a jet ski magazine.

The same one Mobius now had. He got it from his grandmother.

The baby boy, who seemed to now be about 1 year, crawled his way to his grandmother. He managed to reach grandmother and tugged on her dress. She looked down at Mobius, placing the magazine aside to pick him up.

She placed him on his lap and opened it to a page where it showed two boys on a jet ski, the water spraying them in the face.

Little Mobius pointed at it with his chubby little finger.

“That, Mobius, is a jet ski.” His grandmother explained.

“J-” Mobius tried pronouncing it. “Je-”

“Jetski, that’s right Mobius, say it, jet ski!” His grandmother encouraged.

“Jek sti!” Little Mobius said enthusiastically, clapping.

The trio let out a chuckle, watching this.

“It seems your fascination with jet skis started when you were a kid,” Loki commented, looking at his best friend fondly.

“Yes, Mobius. You can ride it when you get older.” She told him.

Little Mobius, who was about 8 years old now, sniffled as he stared at his sandcastle getting trampled over. Those kids who were older than him were bullying him. He tried to get them to stop, but they pushed little Mobius away, who fell back and ended up scraping his elbow.

The kids stuck their tongues out at him and ran away before an adult caught them.

As soon as they left, Mobius ran to the destroyed sandcastle, looking if anything was salvageable. Tears started pouring down his face as he looked at all his hard work ruined.

“Hey, what happened?” An older kid came, running towards him.

“No! Stay away from me! I didn’t do anything to you, don’t hurt me!” Mobius said as he tried to scramble away.

“Hey!” The older kid said, putting his hands up. “I’m not going to hurt you!”

“I want to help you!” He said.

“Who are you?” Mobius asked, wary.

“I’m Nathan! Who are you?”

“I’m- I’m Mobius...you’re not going to hurt me are you?” Mobius asked with tears prickling his eyes.

“No. Now tell me what happened?” He stepped closer to Mobius.

“Those- those kids, they pushed me over, and destroyed my castle,” Mobius told him.

“Okay, did you get hurt anywhere?” Nathan asked him.

Mobius pointed at his elbow which was now stinging.

“Let’s get some antiseptic on that wound, come on,” Nathan said, walking away.

Mobius jogged after him.

Nathan led him to a lifeguard station. Mobius took a seat, and Nathan took out a first aid box.

The two talked while Nathan patched up Mobius’s wound.

“There, it should be better in a few days, but don’t take the plaster off for the next few days,” Nathan warned.

“Now, where do you live? Do you want me to take you home?” Nathan asked. Mobius shook his head, and said “I know my way home, but thank you! I wish you could teach me to surf,”

“I would love to teach you, but I haven’t learned how to properly myself yet, so when I learn I can teach you!” Nathan offered.

“Listen, do you know the rock shaped like an arc?” Nathan asked Mobius. Mobius nodded enthusiastically in reply.

“Well, I practice there every day at 2 in the afternoon, if you want, you can come to watch!”

“I would love to! I have to get home now, but I’ll see you tomorrow!” Mobius waved bye to Nathan and he ran home.

Mobius was finally 16, and his anticipated wait to ride a jet ski came to an end. His grandmother told him he would be allowed to ride a jet ski with the supervision of Nathan when he’d turn 16.

He was getting his briefing lesson that he’d been watching and learning from when he was 10 years. The same lesson he had memorized by now.

Nathan was 19 now, so he was considered an adult who could accompany Mobius on the jet ski.

Riding the jet ski for the first time, with his best friend right behind him, was an unforgettable experience. The water sprayed him in the face, blocking his vision, but he loved the feeling nonetheless.

Once the time was up, he wanted to go again, and again, and again.

“MOBIUS! COME OUT! YOUR GRANDMOTHER- SHE,” the voice broke down in sobs as Mobius ran out, 20 years old, frantic, “What happened?”

The first boy pointed towards the rock that looked like an arc.

Mobius ran like his life was on the line. His grandmother meant everything to him.

His legs started burning from the strain of running that fast, but he ignored it as he accelerated.

When he reached, he saw people standing in a circle around something. He pushed people away as he made his way to the middle.

He froze when he saw his grandmother on the floor, blood smeared on the side of her head; her own.

With that, the letters ‘END OF FILE’ popped up in white on the screen. It showed all the important events of Mobius’ life.

“What- okay. What was my nexus event?” Mobius asked.

“This file was what happened in your life before you were pruned, otherwise, you were supposed to fall in love with Nathan and- you would have adopted 2 beautiful children and lived happily ever after,” Sylvie explained.

She passed the file to Mobius who observed the picture of the kids that were supposed to be his.

“I- I need a minute,” he said as he stood up and practically ran out of the room.

“So,” said Sylvie to Loki who was still staring at the file in shock. “Are you ever going to tell him?” She asked him.

“Not anytime soon, I mean he just found out he was supposed to have the perfect life but he didn’t fall in love with the right person so he became a variant and eventually started working for the TVA!” Loki tried to defend himself.

“You’re blind not to see that Mobius is literally in love with you!” Sylvie said, storming out of the room.

That shook Loki up. “Well, it couldn’t hurt to try, could it?” He mumbled to himself as he stood up and made his way to the library, the place Mobius was most likely going to be.

He walked past the rows and rows of shelves, looking for a table where Mobius was sitting.

When he finally found Mobius, he was sitting with his head hung low, clutching the jet ski magazine.

Loki silently walked and sat down without making any noise.

“Hey,” He said, softly.

Mobius looked up at the sudden sound. He nodded in acknowledgment.

“Do you wanna talk about it?”

“Not really...”

“That’s fine, we can talk about something else then,” Loki said.

“It just- I need time to process everything you know?”

“Well then, it’s not the best time to talk about what I came for,” Loki mumbled, but Mobius heard him.

“What did you want to talk about?” Mobius asked him, suddenly intrigued.

“Um, nothing,” Loki tried to cover up, but Mobius knew him too well to fall for his tricks.

He just looked at Loki, eyebrow raised.

“Um, okay, so I came to confess...” Loki said. When he got no response from Mobius, he continued. “I- I love you Mobius.” No response. “I- I understand if you don’t feel the same way, or you need time to process everything, but I really really love you Mobius.” Loki admitted.

When Loki got no reaction, he stood up, but Mobius placed a hand on his, “I love you too,” He said.

Blood rushed up to Loki’s face. Mobius stood up and took Loki’s hand in his.

“I will need some time to process everything, but I want you by my side through everything,” Mobius told Loki.

“I know, I was supposed to fall for another guy, but I didn’t, that’s why I became a variant. Now, I’m in love with you, not Nathan. I don’t even remember who he is.” Mobius said, looking Loki in his eyes.

“Loki, I love you,” Mobius repeated.

“Is it okay if I kiss you?” Loki asked.

Mobius replied by closing the gap, placing his lips on Lokis’.

The kiss was short but sweet. Both poured all their pent-up emotions into the kiss. When they pulled away, they both were breathing heavily.

“You know, you were cute as a kid,” Loki commented out of nowhere.

Mobius chuckled, but replied, “Trust me, I’ve studied your entire life, you were much cuter.”

Chris Evans - Banana’s new friend

Requested by @captainchrisstan​, hope you like it! This is another part of the Banana’s series! You can read this without reading the previous one, since there isn’t a plot line, just our favourite plushie making another appearence 

Bananas 

Banana 2: Banana’s worries

Plot: little Nathan is the new addition to the Evans-Y/L/N family, and Banana is having troubled feelings, along with Claire.

Warnings: I don’t know shit about little babies and births, give me a break.

“I don’t wike it”

In any other situation, it would have been funny, because Chris and you had a bet going on to see how many times she could say it in day. And since he had won the last one, you wanted it for yourself. But it wasn’t funny, because Claire wasn’t laughing neither was Chris, neither were you. No one was laughing in the Evans-Y/L/N family that night, because you were exhausted from more than twelve hours of labour and a whole day in the hospital.

Chris was exhausted too, if not more than you, because the poor man had been running from the hospital to your house all day, taking care of Claire while picking up the stuff you needed.

Both of you blinked your tired eyes at the little girl, who was pouting and had her arms crossed. Nathan gurgled something and drooled on the floor.

“What – what do you mean?” Chris attempted to laugh, but it came out too awkward. “He’s not an it, baby. He’s Nathan, your little brother”

“Well, I don’t wike him” Claire corrected herself and let her lower lip slip even farther from her mouth. “Take him back. I wan’ a differen’ brothe’”

Little Nathan didn’t react to his sister’s word, but kept making baby noises and drooling all over the same spot of the floor. He was wearing what you thought was the most cute onesie you could have found, with little Captain America’s shields all over the cloth, and Claire loved everything that had to do with it.

She had been so, so excited to meet him, that she hadn’t slept through the night, and had begged and begged to his uncle until he had taken her with Chris. After a week in the hospital, that was all she could talk about. And finally, when she got to meet him in the lobby of your home, she said that she ‘didn’t wike’ him.

“Claire, that’s not nice” you said, from your position behind Chris. He was crouching down in front of Claire, who was standing in the first step of the stairs and looking at the baby in her daddy’s arms. “We can’t change Nathan, he is your little brother and that’s final”

“But I don’t wike him!”

You gasped surprised at her sudden rage outburst, because apart from the occasional tantrum thrown from the toddler phase, she was a calm child. What surprised you the most, however, was when she threw the Banana plushie, who she had been dying to show to her little brother, to Nathan’s face.

Chris was fast enough to avoid it hitting the baby’s face, but still it collided with his tummy, and even if it was made of soft cotton, it disturbed the baby from the little daydream he was having. So the screaming started.

“Claire!” you and Chris shouted at the same time, while he raised up and cuddled Nathan to his chest. The small baby cried and sobbed so loud that you wanted to do the same. “You can’t do that!”

“Banana hates him!” she screamed back to you, and ran to pick up her plushie. “And I hate him too!”

You weren’t fast enough to catch the sobbing little girl that ran up the stairs to her room, and closed the door with a loud kick. The four year old girl screamed from her room so hard that you heard her over the sounds of Nathan wailing, and your eyes got glossy.

For so long, you had had the impression that everything had been going well. Claire had overgrown her fear of being forgotten because of the new addition to the family, and she actually helped to make the nursery and always bought something from the toy-store for him. And now, it seemed that everything had gone to hell.

“Oh my god” you cried out, and sat where seconds ago Claire had been. “That went so bad”

“Well” Chris sighed, and walked over to sit with you. “At least she threw Banana at him, not some other toy”

“Yeah, that makes it so much better” you rolled your eyes at him. “I feel so much better now. Thanks babe”

“Okay, I get it” he sat down besides you, and kept bouncing up and down the crying baby on his shoulder. “Do you want me to go and talk with her?”

Just the thought about having to face again a crying kid made you want to dig yourself in a hole and never come back, so you nodded and closed your eyes tightly. There was a constant pain on your lower regions because you hadn’t wanted to stay anymore at the hospital, and the doctor had allowed it as the birth hadn’t had complications.

“Go and rest for a while” Chris leaned down and kissed your forehead.

You looked up at him, and actually felt pity. He had dark black bags under his eyes, cracked lips and his head was a mess. There was stain of mayonnaise on his shirt, the same he had been wearing for a whole day, and he still had one sock from each colour. But you felt like dropping dead on the wooden floor, so you nodded.

“But wake me up in an hour or so” you smiled at him and kissed him. He didn’t taste like heavens and angels, but more like morning breath and coffee. “I have to breastfeed monster number two”

“Monster number two seems to be sleeping” Chris looked down to Nathan, who had his shirt fisted by the part of the stain and his little cute mouth open in a perfect O.

“Alright” you yawned and couldn’t get your hand to cover your mouth, just let Chris do his usual stuff and stuck his finger on your mouth. You stopped yawning and sent him the best bitch glare you could manage. “I hate you so much. Not even after pushing your son out of my vagina you give a break”

“What can I say” Chris shrugged. “Banana told me to do it”

Your ‘no more than an hour’ nap turned out in a five hours sleep, and by the judge of your breast hanging out of your pyjamas’ shirt, it seemed like you had slept through the feeding. You took a few long minutes to wake up, feeling much better than when you went to bed. Judging the sun up in the sky, you estimated it was around noon.

Loud snores were coming from the bathroom, and with just propping un on your elbows, you could see Chris’ slipper popping from there. You swallowed a laugh and smiled fondly. Putting on your own slippers, you rose from the bed and walked to the bathroom.

As you had anticipated, Chris was sleeping there. He had his pants and underwear down, sprawled down on the toilet seat and his legs open wide. You didn’t have the heart to wake him, because only God knew how many minutes of sleep he had had in the previous day. So you turned off the main light, picked up his phone from the floor, closing the tab 100 ways of living without sleep, and let the door a bit open so that he wouldn’t wake up in the dark.

Of course, all that after taking a picture that would haunt him in his sleep.

You tiptoed out of the room, closing the door behind you. You debated between locking yourself in the bathroom downstairs and drown in the bath until Nathan cried for you, and choking on food on the kitchen. But while you did so, you notice something else.

There was the initial cry of a baby begging for attention, that you knew too well because you had trained yourself with Claire, who had the lungs of an opera singer. Yet as soon as it started, it was over, and then there was a giggle. Something shuffling in the living room and a thud, and you were almost throwing yourself through the stairs to call the police or the firefighters.

What you found, wasn’t what you expected by any means.

Claire was sitting in front of Nathan, who probably had been sleeping in his new crib. You didn’t want to think how she had gotten him out of the crib and in the sofa, and your wanted to think even less that it had been Chris who left him there.

Nathan looked at the banana plushie and then at his sister, making a small gurgling noise. He let Claire put the toy on his lap, and his eyes went wide against it. He moved his little arms and legs up and down, until Banana fell to the ground and Claire jumped behind it. You were ready to jump in and tear Claire away, because she was hell protective about her toy and wouldn’t let anyone touch it.

But she giggled again, put the plushie on the couch and jumped back, crawling to her brother. She pressed a kiss on the side of his head and smiled at him.

“I wike you, by the way” she muttered. “I’m sorry fo’ before. But you can’t tell mommy, because then she will put tha’ smile and I don’t wike it. You will understand, don’ worry Nathan”

What was left of your pride after letting a bunch of doctors look at your vagina dropped to the floor. Chris was always mocking you on how you were the most prideful person in the world, and how you had the ‘I won’ smirk that managed to get on everyone nerves. You hadn’t thought anything about it, but that Claire had noticed to made you mad, because he was right and you weren’t.

“I hope you aren’t allergic to bananas” she muttered as she took one of his little hands in his. Nathan was dozing off again. “Cause then I’ll have to get rid of you. Like in the TV”

You sat down by the stairs and leaned your head against the wall, smiling proudly. Claire kept talking to Nathan softly, as if she knew he was sleeping and couldn’t be disturb. Maybe, in the years to come, you would have to worry about Claire throwing Nathan off the high chair because he didn’t like Bananas, or about them not sharing his toys.

But you got the feeling, as you dozed off in the stairs, that everything would be alright.

Which of your works deserves more love?

oof so many, I keep writing for rarepair friendships in Haven and boy, those don’t even get a lot of hits. (My new Mara one isn’t even showing up in any searches, it’s so weird). My Nathan and Jordan friendship one has very very little love, very sad because they could have had such a lovely and strong platonic relationship but instead we got their stupid romance that was poorly developed and full of lies and manipulation. Also .. . my j x j fic, but maybe when it’s finished, it’ll get the love it deserves *shrugs*  

Do you listen to music while you work? If so, any favorite types?

Sometimes, and if I do it needs to fit the tone of what I’m writing. Lately, a lot of songs that make me want to move I need to use because I feel like it’s easier to type when I’m restless (idk why) (Kelley Clarkson makes a lot of appearances on my playlists??). Once tho I wrote this really depressing fic and listened to the song I titled it after on repeat until I finished it (it was only a few hundred words but I listened to it while revising too and made myself cry. 

How many WIPs do you have?

uhhhhh there’s j x j, I have an Audrey and Claire first date fic, my five alternate endings (although I’ve really only started one of them), and ot3 hallucination trouble fic that really is almost done, my Duke and Nathan pres series fic which I keep forgetting about, and a bunch of ones that are literally like three lines (like 15), and a few missing scenes in progress (both jen and duke centric actually)

But like, actively in progress, I’ll say just five (which is also new to me, my stuff used to never be long enough to be wips)

This is my first blog-post and it is about some of the books I read between year 7 and 11 in my German high school. These books aren’t in a particular order, I just wrote all of them down and took some notes to guide me along. I’ll give a brief summary and then my thoughts about the books.

Without further due, let’s get into the series!

Nr. 1 “Hexen in der Stadt-Ingeborg Engelhardt”

We read this book in seventh grade and immediately after reading (actually during reading as well) we asked ourselves how and why someone thought “Hell yeah, that’s a topic for 11 year olds” since the book is originally listed for grade 5 and 6.

The story takes place in a German town during the Thirty years war, the witch hunts are running wild and the church is all over the place. The story follows a family of four who live in this town, the father is a doctor, one daughter is read-headed and the other a sleep walker. And although the father is greatly needed in this time, the towns people are really suspicious of the family, and they have to flee the city.

First of all, the book was so dense, it was almost unbearable. Definitely not something for children and yet the book won the “Youth literature award” in Germany, so I guess it wasn’t too bad after all. I honestly don’t remember a lot from it, I know we watched a horrible movie about it and I also remember that the pacing(?) in the book was weird, because the first 80% or so took reaaaally long to read through and virtually nothing happened and then in the last 20% everything happened all at once and it was just too much.

Nr. 2 “Am kürzeren Ende der Sonnenallee-Thomas Brussig”

The only (apparent) reason why we read this book was because we had our final class trip to Berlin in year 10.

 The setting is the DDR, East-Berlin to be precise, somewhere around 1970ish. Our protagonist Micha lives in a street which was cut in half my the Berlin Wall and he, unfortunately enough, lives in East-Berlin. He frequent meets with his friends in a nearby park where they listen to West-Music and swoon about Miriam, the neighborhood beauty who is kinda a not-like-other-girls-girl.

All in all, the books is about searching happiness and thinking about how it is so very close and yet never being able to reach it.

It was comfortable to read and overall it was an okay novel. I don’t remember much about it, although I literally read it a year ago. The insight about east-Berlin was cool, and the author definitely implemented own experiences and as someone who grew up in post-split Westgermany it was rather informative and interesting. The quote on the back of the book was also pretty.

Nr. 3 “Frühlings Erwachen-Frank Wendekind”

(Springs Awakening)

Oh. My. God. This whole topic was such a BS and I hated every second of it.

The book takes place, once again, in a German Town in a time where there is no Sex-Ed, aka 1900th century, which is also the topic of the book; Sex-Ed gone wrong. Our first protagonist Wendla grows up in a home with a loving, strict mother and far, far away from everything unholy like sex. Our second protagonist, Melchior, is a really smart, really handsome boy who is the top of his class and who likes to read provocative literature which makes him think about masturbation. His best friend is also handsome but really stupid but the social pressure keeps him from dropping out of school- that and his strict, abusive father. Melchior and Wendla fall in love (he hits her with sticks after she metions that she has never been hurt before), have Sex(he rapes her) and after Wendla gets pregnant and dies after an attempted abortion via poisonous plants her aunt have her, Melchior is only mildly devastated. He turns sad, and kinda crazy, after his best friend commits suicide. He has a rendez-vous with the ghost and death itself, he is happy again? I dunno, the whole book was all over the place.

Worse than the book was the discussions we had in class afterwards. One time we had to argue whether it was in-fact rape or if it was just sex. Second discussion we had was about Wendla being a masochist.

The worst thing about the whole topic was the stupid ass movie adaptation.

You think Percy Jackson has it bad? Oh boy. Ohhh boy. The movie plays in the 2000s, graffiti, cool skater boys, rapper-wannabes and early 2000s fashion included. The names stayed tho, cause why not name the male protagonist Melchior in 2001. There are scenes where teenagers, TEENAGERS, go to a brothel. Ah, I forgot.

They are 13-14, book and movie alike.

10/10 would NOT recommend.

Nr. 4 “Der Besuch der alten Dame-Friedrich Dürrenmatt”

(The visit)

(No, not the horror movie)

Oh my goodness, I loved this book.

Picture this. A small town in a German province far away from any major cities with a single trail connection between Hambourg and Zurich, aka the whole length of Germany, where virtually nothing happens. One day, a former resident, comes for a visit. But not just anyone, Claire frikking Zachanassian comes for a visit.

And for blood, because this sixty-something, badass multi-billionaire who got her fortune by marrying a bunch of men who died coincidentally one after the other proposes to the town an offer.

One billion for the head of the man, Alfred the third, who expelled her out of the town after getting her pregnant and lying about it in court after she sued him.

They sent her away in the train, called her a hoe and laughed about her. She lived in a brother for a little while, her son died, and a horny, rich man decided to marry her because why not.  

At first the towns people are disgusted by the offer, outraged by the immoral offer and they straight up deny it. “I’ll wait, Claire says”.

You see, the town is really, really poor. Not only because it is in a terrible location commercially wise, but also because Claire bought every factory in the town and brought them all to a stand still to slowly dry the city out. She planned this revenge.

And you see, the proposal of 500 million split between the inhabitants and 500 million for the industry of the city sounds great if you are on the brink of disaster and hunger and misery. But surely, with such an immoral offer, no one would want to commit a crime? Or would they.

Because, now that I look at it, Alfred really did something horrible… maybe, just maybe I can allow myself to stack up some dept.

And Alfred grew more and more paranoid. Begging Claire to stop this, apologizing on his knees, crying and sleeping with one open eye at all times.

We discussed in our class what we would do. We didn’t really came to a conclusion since we had nothing to compare, not one of us was ever asked to make such a decision. “It depends” was our final answer.

They do kill him in the end. It doesn’t end happy, Claire isn’t happy, but she does give the towns people their money. I really enjoyed reading this book. The female “antagonist” was refreshingly bad-ass and the moral despair was entertaining to read.

We learn that Claire is rich and powerful, but that she lost so much innocence, so much energy to enjoy her life in such young years that, as a reader, you cannot not sympathize with her.

Nr. 5 “Das Versprechen-Friedrich Dürrenmatt”

(The pledge)

Hands down the best book I’ve read in school.

This book is originally a critique by Dürrenmatt about the emerging detective novel genre where everything always works out.

The setting is in a Swiss town, 1950ish, and in the beginning the reader takes on the role of an author who meets a certain Dr. H who works for the police. They become friends and take a ride through the mountains. Upon taking a stop at a gas station, Dr. H introduces us to a seemingly old, smoking, alcohol-reeking man and a scruffy looking girl. The narrator is confused, asks who these people are, and back in the car, we learn that this is the former detective, no-one-escapes-me, super-brain Matthäi.

From that point on the narrator switches and we are now in a third person narrator perspective.

Matthäi is introduced again, this happening in the past, as a hard-working, clean, structured man who doesn’t smoke, drink or disobeys rules. No one really likes him in the office, but they value that he just so good at his job. But because he is so unapproachable, they want to sent him away to Jordan.

The week he was planning to travel there, a young girl is raped and then brutally murdered in a small town nearby. And because he is Mister Superbrain, he goes there to help investigate.

The other officers at the crime scene are (understandably) uncomfortable, they don’t want to talk to the family, or the people there in general. So Matthäi talks to everyone. He is a very calm, collected, cold man. So he meets with the family, tells them what happened to their daughter and is utterly, completely shocked when the mother just blankly stares in his face, and asks him to promise her to find the murderer of her daughter. He is shocked by the lack of emotion in this moment and sees himself in this cold visage of the mother. He promises her, just to get away from her as fast as possible, and drives back to be office.

I don’t want to spoil too much because this book is just so good, but oh my god

I’m in general a sucker for drastic changes in character or demeanor (hence why I liked The Visit so much as well) but his book takes everything to another level. They “plottwist” is so incredibly frustrating and nerve wraking to read, the perspective changes provide so much more depth.

And for the first time I finally read a really intricate, morally gray character.

Nr. 6 “Nathan der Weise-G. E. Lessing”

(Nathan the Wise)

This book was kinda eh. If I had so summarize it as fast as possible it would probably be “Religion and accidental incest”. It is about the three world religions and stereotypes between them, about genocide and also about stigmatization. It ends on a nice note, tho.

The only really remarkable passage of this book is the so-called “Ringparabel” in which Nathan answers to the question which religion is the real, big OG of them all. It is pretty nice and the symbolism is really fitting as well. The beginning of the book is incredibly boring but it does get better in the end. All in all not a total waste of time and money but nothing I would read again.

Nr. 7 “Die Leiden des jungen Werther- Goethe”

(The sorrows of young Werther)

Ah yes, no German class without Goethe. This book is written in a way that lets the reader really seep into Werthers emotion because it is written as a letter-novel. Werther is a young, nature-loving guy who (in the beginning of the book) is just really happy, go-lucky and over all nice. Then he meets Lotte, a young, pretty, smart and book-loving woman who is empathic to all those around her.  He falls in love with her, despite knowing that she is literally engaged and about to marry. She knows he loves her, her fiance know he loves her and literally everyone knows he loves her and they are ok with it? I dunno. Werther has a severe Seasonal-affective-Disorder. He kinda makes it through the first winter after meeting Lotte but never really recovers, even during summer. In the second winter, he can’t take it anymore and he commits suicide.

I liked the book (not only because I can identify with the SAD). In the end we learn that Lotte isn’t as good as we originally think she is; She is actually really possessive of Werther and although she wants him to be happy, she doesn’t think anyone is good enough for him and thus he should just stay close to her. She enjoys the attention given by her husband, who is actually really nice and whom she does love, and by Werther who is utterly and completely obsessed with her.

Opinions on this book split 50/50 with my friends. Some of them think like me and they see the heart break and the desire to move on but ultimately, the way attraction is so so strong. Some other friends, more specifically my Help-with-Maths-Go-to-Guy hated this book with a burning passion. I can see why. The imagery is sometimes a tad too far-fetched and the wording is, in true Goethe-Fashion really hard to read and the sentences are kinda messed up as well.

But in the end it is still the book which opened the way for Goethe to be one of the greatest writers in Europe and I can see why.

Oh wow. This concludes all the books I read thus far. There will be definitely more to come next year and maybe I’ll do another post like this once I read some more.

well only 4 of my ships in this list have even been canon lmfao. clark/lois bc they’ve been together for 2+ years. max/liz has been together for probably a few months???                Still unable to hold back the tears of fear and regret, Scarlett reached the apartment and ran to the bedroom. She found Zig sitting on the bed, reading, and he was startled when he saw her in a hurry.

               _Scarlett! What happened? – he saw a spot of ash on her cheek, blurred by her tears.

               _Zig…I need to tell you something. I can’t take it anymore… - she sat on the bed in front of him and blew everything about the events of that year, from the prank with Claire to the burning house that night. Zig heard it all, an unreadable expression on his face.

               _So, you knew who the person behind that change with my grades was, and you didn’t tell me? – he sighed – I thought you trusted me, Scarlett.

               _Zig, I trust you! – she cried again – but I was afraid of what could happen to you and our friends if I told you everything, Beau could come after us!

               _And you didn’t think we could keep this secret? – he snorted – if we all worked on it together, don’t you think he’s the one that would be afraid of us? Maybe the pranks could have stopped with the forks!

               _You don’t know Beau, he’s a psycho!

               _Of course I don’t know, you never told me anything about him! – Zig got up to walk side to side in the bedroom – I still don’t understand why you thought I couldn’t know – Scarlett started to feel desperate. She tried her best arguments, but he still was irreducible.

               _Zig, please, listen. I was afraid. At first, I thought I could do it all by myself. The fork prank happened almost a month before the other pranks. And since Chris received a new chance to talk to the managers, I put that aside. But then those bad things happened with Kaitlyn, James, Becca and you, I needed more proof that they were all linked…

               _And why couldn’t I help you with that? – he said slowly, looking down at the floor.

               _I know I should have trusted you more. I’m so sorry about that, Zig. But I’m used to acting alone. I didn’t want to bother you with this stuff…

               _Bother me? – he looked directly at her – weren’t you the one always willing to help people? Were we bothering you with our stuff?

               _God, of course no! – she got up abruptly – you know I’m always here for whatever you need, Zig…

               _And you never understood I’d do the same for you! And since you act alone, like you said, you don’t need me – she started to cry again.

               _Don’t say it! I need you now more than ever! – she took his arm, but he didn’t move – Beau have me in his hands, I can be arrested if he shows that video to the police. And if he’s something like Nathan said, he’s unstable, and he can do it even if I don’t say anything.

               _Nathan?

               _Yeah, the president of the Alphas. He knows Beau better than anyone and what he can do.

               _And did you rather trust this guy Nathan, who you only knew a few months than me, your boyfriend a year and a half ago?

               _It’s just because he knows Beau, he could give me more information and watch him for me, just that.

               _Are you sure it’s all that? – he arched an eyebrow, and she drew back.

               _What…what do you mean? – her eyes widened – Zig, I swear he’s just a friend, we’ve never done nothing!

               _Yeah? And that night you spent at his house? You told me you slept in his room.

               _And he slept on the couch, Zig!

               _Now all makes sense! All those days I asked you to stay here with me... - he sighed. She was even more scared with his accusations.

               _No, no! I wasn’t with him, I swear! I was investigating, alone!

               _How can I know you aren’t hiding something from me again, Scarlett? – he ran his hands through his hair – I…I don’t know if I can trust any word you say…

               _Zig… - she reached him again, crying intensely – I may have made a lot of mistakes, and hid something big from you, but I was always loyal to you. You’re the only man in the world to me.

               _And that’s the way you treat the only man in the world to you? – he raised his voice, angrily – lying? Hiding secrets? Exchanging him for people you barely know?

               _I’m so sorry, Zig! – she shouted – if I could go back in time, I’d do everything different, I didn’t mean to hurt you!

               _But you can’t, Scarlett, and you hurt me – he snorted and picked his pillow and a blanket – I��m going to sleep on the couch. You can have the whole bed for you. I believe that is not a problem, since you did the same to me – he left the room and closed the door. Scarlett sat on the bed, still not believing what happened, and the tears left her eyes easily. She really hurt him. That wasn’t a fight like they had before, because of his callings to his family, or open cabinets doors, or dirty dishes in the sink. That was much more, and scary. She lay on the bed, still dressed up, and had a chaotic night, almost unable to sleep.

               On the couch, Zig looked at his phone, and the texts he sent to Scarlett that night she spent at the Alpha house were still there.

She only responded during the morning, when he was finally asleep, after staying up until two in the morning waiting for her. She preferred to stay in that house with people that weren’t her friends than to go home and fix things with him after their argument. And it was from that day on that she began to hide things from him. He still couldn’t believe what she did. It wasn’t for this Scarlett that he fell in love. That girl was always honest with him, she wouldn’t hide something so serious. He didn’t recognize her anymore.

               The next day, Scarlett woke up with a headache from the previous night. She turned on the bed, hoping maybe Zig was there, but he wasn’t. She left the room and found him facing the living room window, looking out.

               _Good morning, Zig – she said, and he turned to her, and she could see a cigarette in his hand. It had been a long time since she’d seen him smoking. She remembered when he said he only smoked when he was extremely nervous.

               _Good morning, Scarlett – she approached him and gave a kiss on his cheek, but he didn’t kiss her back, as he usually did. She pulled back a little frightened, but understood that he was still angry with her – there’s coffee in the kitchen.

               _Thanks, I’ll need it – she went to the kitchen and picked up a mug. While she filled it with coffee, she thought she’d never seen him so cold and disdained with her. She returned to the living room and this time he was leaned against the window, facing her.

               _I need to tell you something – he sighed deeply, looking to the floor as she took a sip from the mug – last night I talked to Chris. I’ll stay in his place for a while – he was interrupted by the sound of something breaking. He looked up and saw the pieces of the mug and the coffee spread out in front of her feet. Then he looked at her scared expression.

               _For a while? – she stammered, trembling.

               _Yeah, then I’ll look for the college dorms – he refused to look at her again because he knew she would be crying again.

               _Are you…are you breaking up with me, Zig?

               _I need some time to assimilate things…

               _Are you breaking up with me? – she repeated, searching his gaze.

               _I…no. I don’t know. I just need a break.

               _A break from me?

               _A break from your lies and secrets, Scarlett – Zig finally met her wet eyes, and Scarlett walked over to him, holding on his arms.

               _You don’t love me anymore? – she looked at his face, but he turned to the side.

               _Scarlett…

               _Look into my eyes and answer: you don’t love me anymore? – as she requested, he looked deep into her eyes.

               _I love you, Scarlett. But not this Scarlett, who doesn’t trust me.

               _I know I’ve done awful things, and I’ll regret it until the end of my life – she sobbed – what can I do to make you forgive me?

               _I need a break, Scarlett – he repeated, taking her hands off his arms – I was just waiting for you to wake up to pack my things – Zig walked toward the room while Scarlett stood in the middle of the living room, refusing to believe his decision. He was trying his best to contain his tears too, but while he was grabbing his clothes from the wardrobe, he could hear her sobbing while she picked up the broken porcelain and wiped the floor. At this moment, he couldn’t take it any longer and cried as well. He knew it was hard for both of them, but seeing her suffering was too much for him. He began to doubt if this was the best decision, if he should go back into the room and sweep her into his arms, saying that he would stay, but she didn’t think of him when she decided to hide things. He picked his bag and left the room. Scarlett was sitting on the couch, her hands covering her face and muffling her sobs. She saw Zig and ran to him, wrapping her arms around his waist.

            _Zig, please, don’t do this…

            _Scarlett, don’t make things worse…

             _Please, don’t leave me, I love you…

             _I made my decision, and you need to respect it, please – she let her arms fall beside her.

             _Well, okay… - he took her hands.

             _I’m sorry, but I don’t see any other alternative – he sighed and released her hands. He took the key on his pocket and opened the door – be safe, Scarlett – Zig locked the door and could still hear her cry, making him cry all the way until Chris’ apartment, too. Scarlett went back to her room and found one of his shirts in the laundry basket. She picked it up, sniffing the fabric, feeling the scent of his favorite cologne mixed with his own scent, that only she could feel. Holding the garment, she lay on the bed, and cried for the rest the day. Her heart was broken in a thousand pieces, and she only had herself to blame.
