#i love spinoffs i love spinoff games

Oh man I fucking love PR0TEKTER-iK. Robots. I love robots so much. Keep reading for a short Dragon Quest Treasures game review.

So I spent my entire Christmas vacation playing Dragon Quest Treasures. And watching the entirety of Transformers Prime. I don't regret a single second of it.

This years New Years Eve party was kind of a bummer because everyone went to bed at like 1am, so I sat by myself in the living room and watched Predacons Rising lol.

But back to Dragon Quest Treasures... While the story wasn't all that breathtakingly interesting, the fact that you can collect all the cute little monsters just like in Dragon Quest Builders 2 (one of my fav games of all time) way than makes up for that. It's just a silly little spinoff after all. So don't go into it expecting an amazing and dramatic story line and character development lol.

My favorite monster by far was the Heartless Hunter that you defeat as the first boss in the game. As soon as I read the words "you may be able to fix him" I made that my number one mission. Fuck the railroads, I'm going shard hunting. In my foolishness I went way too deep into the Hinterquarters because I thought that was the only location Killing Machines would spawn. To my horror, they were all level 30. While I was like barely level 12. So to say that I got my ass kicked massively would be an understatement. But eventually, I got all my shards and headed back to the desert, now pretty overleveled for that point in the game. But as soon as I got there, I noticed that a desert variant of the killing machine spawns like right next to the mission giver. And they were like level 15. Oh man. I was pissed the fuck off.

But all the anger was worth it, because I finally got my beloved pink robot as a reward! I love you PR0TEKTER-iK........ Even though he kept dying on me like all the time. In every battle. But his cute voice lines were totally totally worth it. ;)

As of now, I've played for a total of 40 hours and I'm around level 80 and in the middle of the post game quests. So I'm still not finished! I even found a bunch of monsters with funny little hats and outfits hehe. They're like the Dragon Quest equivalent of shiny Pokemon I think.

I know he's called PR0TEKTER-iK and not PR0TEKT-MIA and I honestly wanted to use each sibling the same amount, but in the end, I played with Mia for most of the game. You get enough of Erik in DQ11 already smh. I also really liked the antagonists, they have pretty cool designs, especially Bonnie and Silverbones. Love myself some skeleton pirates.

Anyway that's all I wanted to say. I can highly recommend the game, it's very fun! :)

How Does it Feel to Read Classic Sci-Fi?

Orson Scott Card: Two of the most interesting books you’ll ever read if you’re willing to look past a handful of things. And then you find the planet of Chinese people who worship having debilitating OCD. And the Mormonism. And the fact that the author is wildly homophobic and ought to read his own books.

Robert Heinlein (or at least the Wikipedia Summaries): I guess that’s a neat concept—oh, it’s a sex thing. Um. Gotcha.

Ray Bradbury: Man, I gotta read this thing for class huh. Well here’s hoping it’s good! *three hours later* oh. that’s why he’s famous. this will stick with me forever and I will never look at the phrase ‘soft rain’ the same again. christ. And then repeat 3x.

Isaac Asimov: Wow, this is such an interesting concept! I wonder how the exploration of it will influence the plot! Wait, hey, are you going to add any characters? Any of em? No like, with character traits other than ‘robot psychologist’ and ‘autistic’ and ‘woman’? None of em? No, ‘detective’ isn’t a character trait. Those are all just facts. Aaaand now I’m bored.

Ursula K. Le Guin: Hah, get a load of this guy! He’s never heard of nonbinary people before. Lol, what a riot; how dumb do you have to be to comprehend that these people aren’t men *or* women actually? Oh, wait, what’s happening. Oh shit, it was about society and love and learning to understand each other? And now I’m crying? And perhaps a better human being for it??

Andy Weir: Alright, this guy’s a really good writer. Funny, creative, knows so much engineering stuff…ooh, a new book! …I guess he can’t write women. Well, he wouldn’t be the first sci-fi writer…ooh another new book! And it’s more engineering problem solving and—wow. It’s not just women he can’t write. Please stop letting your characters talk to each other.

i love makoto so much but fanon does her so much better (the good parts of the fandom) because in the game her character is so lack luster. they butchered her confidant it is so borning and not even about her. they made her a cop. A COP. they pushed this "canon waifu" role onto her (before sumire came along and did it Even Worse). and it SUCKS because SHE IS SO MUCH MORE!!! SHE IS SO MUCH BETTER!!!! SHE COULD'VE BEEN SO MUCH BETTER!!! the way i feel about canon makoto is the same way i feel about the canon ryuji events post komoshida where he's horribly mistreated and used purely as comic relief: i ignore them <3 my game now <3 never happened <3 my ocs <3

You are so right. I generally apply this to all characters in p5 bc the game does such a shit job of staying consistent with character arcs and personalities. Theres a desperate need to throw in perverse jokes at the expense of female characters and a need to show that the police (as a whole) are reliable people who are not influenced by things like money and power; only the BAD cops do that. Not to mention this obvious fatphobia and homophobia but i feel likes thats a given.

But back to Makoto. Shes a victim of bad writing just like everyone else. Ryuji during the kamoshida arc was fighting with self loathing and genuine anxiety, and aside from the like. One comment on Panthers outfit in the metaverse, hes more than well behaved. All of that is shelved as soon as Kamoshida is gone and replaced with him being weird comic relief (and the focus of alot of sexual jokes that were nonexistent in the beginning of the game). Anns arc about self love and empowerment is completely dropped as soon as the nasty bad guy is put away (so that its good to be weird about her w the Good Guys). Makoto loses her a chunk of her personality to be the mature waifu which is INSANE to me bc shes like. Not okay or normal at all 😭😭😭 she THINKS shes responsible and so does everyone else on her team, but its an act! She doesnt know shit! And she doesnt know that she doesnt know shit bc shes respectful and adults dont care about anything as long as u respect them!

Its very telling that for literally every single thief (and goro), you can see the exact moment the writers gave up on adding anything of worth to their characters outside of the social links. Its like they didnt know what to even do w the characters at their disposal after their main arcs were complete. No mention of friends hanging out without you, no mention of having group hangouts. Everyone is treated as a core, important member of the friend group DURING their arc, but outside of it, they are acquaintances at best. Theres nothing in the game that convinces you that these guys are legitimately friends who care for each other and do Friend Things. And i describe it like that bc there IS a game that treats them all as friends, and its strikers! Strikers/Scramble genuinely feels like the game p5 wanted to be; a road trip w your team where they stay up at night talking to each other and hanging out and doing things together that dont necessarily include you, the player. Its refreshing and lovely but it sucks that u get that kind of attention to detail in a ‘spinoff’ title

i know sage didnt exist yet at the time team sonic racing was made . like she didnt exist in universe and she probably hadnt been created out of universe yet either. so they couldnt have put her in there. but she would have been such a better third member of eggmans team than zavok if she Had existed at the time . tbh
