Smoking Problem
Theodore Nott x reader
Summary : Theo has always been addicted to cigarettes but this time it was too much
Tumblr media
Y/N's POV
I sat in Theo's bedroom with tears in my eyes as cigarette smoke filled the air. I watched my boyfriend, his face contorted with anger, smoking one cigarette after another. This habit had become a gap between us, an impassable wall. At the beginning of our relationship, I didn't think this would be a problem. But as time passed, I realized how cigarettes had taken over his life. I spoke to him repeatedly about the dangers to his health, to our relationship, but my words seemed to be lost in the smoke. Arguments had become commonplace. Every time I asked him to stop, he got defensive, arguing that he could smoke if he wanted. The tension between us continued to grow, until that fateful day. That day, the argument reached a level I never thought possible. My words were filled with frustration and disappointment, and his were laced with anger and resistance. The ring he had given me, a symbol of our love and our promises, had become a silent witness to our imminent destruction. In a fit of rage, I stood up, tears streaming down my cheeks, and threw the ring on the floor. The sound of metal against tile echoed through the room, marking the end of our love story. The silence that followed was deafening. But no sooner had the ring hit the ground than something unexpected happened. The boy suddenly stopped shouting and his face showed surprise. He looked down and saw the ring on the ground. The anger faded from his face, giving way to sadness and regret. He immediately picked up the ring, his hands trembling, and rushed over to give it back to me. He wanted to be forgiven, to repair his mistakes. But it was too late. I had already made my decision.
Theodore’s POV
I sat alone in my bedroom, my heart heavy and my mind tormented by the violent argument with my girlfriend. The days that followed were hell, a descent into the depths of sadness and distress. I found myself in a terrible state, unable to control my emotions. Tears flowed almost constantly, flooding my face as I remembered the harsh words we had thrown at each other. Every thought of her reminded me of our argument and the pain that came from it. Sleep was my worst enemy. I tossed and turned in my bed, unable to find rest. Images of our quarrel haunted my dreams, waking me up in sweat and leaving me exhausted throughout the day. The food no longer had any taste. My appetite was gone, replaced by a lump of anxiety in my throat that prevented me from eating anything. Every bite felt like cardboard in my mouth, useless and tasteless. I felt lost, like a part of me had been ripped away. I found it difficult to concentrate on my daily tasks, my mind continually being flooded with thoughts of regret and sorrow. My life seemed like a collection of painful memories and empty feelings. Yet, despite all this pain, I knew I was responsible for our argument. I had let anger and frustration take over, instead of communicating constructively. I blamed myself for letting our relationship reach such a breaking point. The days passed slowly, each minute seemed to last forever.
One evening, while I was lying on the floor crying, my friends Draco and Blaise came to find me in my room. Blaise said:"Man, are you still thinking about her? You've got to move on." Draco chimed in:"Yeah mate, moping around isn't helping. You need to get back out there." I sighed."I know guys, it's just...we were together for so long. I miss her." Blaise put his hand on my shoulder."I understand. But sitting here won't change anything. You've got to go talk to her, sort things out." Draco nodded."He's right. You won't know if you have a chance unless you try. The worst she can say is no, and at least then you'll have your answer." I thought about it. They were right,  I had been moping around for long enough. I needed closure, one way or another. "Alright, I'm going to go look for her. Thanks for talking some sense into me guys."
I finally decided to make a sincere declaration of love to her, in the hope that she would forgive me. I took a deep breath and walked towards where we used to meet, a bench near the lake. When I saw her, my heart soared. She was there, sitting on the bench where we had shared so many happy moments. Her face was full of sadness, but I could still see the love she felt for me. I took a deep breath and approached her. "Y/N," I began with a shaky voice, "I'm so sorry for everything that happened between us. I didn't mean to hurt you, and I sincerely regret every harsh word that I could say. You are the most important person in my life, and I can't imagine my life without you." She looked at me, her eyes filled with unshed tears. “I blame you, you know,” she whispered, her voice filled with emotion. "But I love you so much, and I can't stay mad at you forever." I took a small box out of my pocket, containing the ring I had given him when we first started dating. "Y/N, I want you to know how much you mean to me. This ring symbolizes our love, and I want to give it back to you as a renewed promise. I promise you that I will do everything in my power to be the best boyfriend, to make you happy every day." Tears began to stream down her face as she took the box into her hands. She carefully opened it, revealing the sparkling ring inside. A radiant smile lit up her face, and she held out her hand so I could hand her the ring. “I forgive you,” she said softly, her eyes shining with happiness. "And I promise to give you another chance. I love you, and I want to be with you." I felt an immense relief wash over me as I slipped the ring onto her finger. I took his hand in mine and realized how lucky I was to have him in my life. We kissed, sealing our reconciliation and our renewed love.

What are your favourite fics with Draco in them?
This is a bit broad though isn’t it? I can name a few with varying degrees of Draco focus.
I’m gonna cheat and name Here's Looking at You Kid by @little-shit-soph first, which is a George/Blaise fic but the latest chapter was Draco POV with Drarry and it was brilliant! Also reccing the fic as a whole, I love it.
The Man Who Lived by @e-sebastian (253k)
Draco breaks a cup, and one thing leads to another. A story of redemption, tattoos, dreams, mistakes, green eyes, long conversations, and copious amounts of coffee.
Set in New York twelve years after the war.
Heal Thyself by @astolat (46k)
"Are you going for the course?" Lovegood asked. "You have the NEWTs.”
“What course?” Draco said, then, “No, don’t be ridiculous,” when he realized she meant the notice pinned up on the board he’d been staring at: Applicants To The Introductory Mediwizard Course For The Coming Term Shall Present Themselves In The Chief Mediwizard’s Office By August 24th.
“Oh, I thought you might,” she said. “Well, goodbye.” And off she wandered again in her addled way.
Away Childish Things by @letteredlettered (153k)
Harry gets de-aged. Malfoy has to help him.
There Is Always the Moon by @firethesound (159k)
Draco's life after the war is everything he wanted it to be: it's simple, and quiet, and predictable, and safe. But when a mysterious curse shatters the peace he'd worked so hard to build, there's only one person he can trust to help him. After all, Harry Potter has saved his life before. Now Draco has to believe that Potter will be able to do it one more time. (A remix of If the Sun Goes Black by pasdexcuses)
Nor All That Glisters by @sweet-s0rr0w (110k)
Lonely and frustrated on house arrest, with no prospects for the future, Draco begins brewing Felix Felicis in an attempt to improve his lot. Just in the short term, of course. He isn’t a total idiot.
But before long he finds himself with a thriving business, a nice flat, some actual (albeit irritatingly Gryffindor) friends, and a very satisfying sex life. What’s more, no-one is hexing him in the street. And Harry Potter is single, and gorgeous, and giving Draco decidedly interested looks.
Stop taking the Felix? You must be joking…l
All Life is Yours to Miss by Saras_Girl (114k)
Professor Malfoy's world is contained, controlled, and as solitary as he can make it, but when an act of petty revenge goes horribly awry, he and his trusty six-legged friend are thrown into Hogwarts life at the deep end and must learn to live, love and let go.
A Big Black Sky by alexmeg (90k)
Draco shifts his head as he turns to look at Scorpius, his cheek touching the pillow. "Did you know that…" He pauses, his throat convulsing, and it sounds audible in the silence, besides Michael's steady, even breathing from the other bedroom.
Scorpius is staring back at him, in wait of something new to learn, a beautiful and intelligent child. He has Draco's mind. He has Draco's eyes and nose and mouth and hair. He is his. All his. All he has of Michael are his wild curls and the green of his eyes, and sometimes he looks into them and imagines that they aren't Michael's, but someone else's.
Draco leans his head closer, biting the quiver out of his lips before he breathes a laden and shuddering exhale, and he whispers, "You are my star in a big black sky."
Sourdough by @academicdisasterfic (17k)
Draco writes romance novels and doesn't leave his apartment much. Harry bakes bread and sells it to Draco. Draco is quite weird. Harry might like that.
Waiting By An Open Door by @femmequixotic and @noeeon (29k)
Draco starts following Potterwatch secretly during the War. He wishes Potter would come save him too. But that sort of thing only happens in fairy tales, and Malfoys don't get fairy tale endings, do they?
Soup-pocalypse and The Great Curry Cataclysm by @norelationtoatticus (104k)
Eleven years after the war, Draco Malfoy leads a quiet, boring, and perfectly respectable life, thanks very much. Or, at least he does, until a sudden and very unexpected veela awakening causes him to throw soup all over Harry Potter in the middle of the Ministry cafeteria.
you've got the antidote for me by Kandakicksass (20k)
When Harry Potter unintentionally severs their soulbond before it can fully form, Draco Malfoy resigns himself to a slow death and decides not to burden Harry with a soulmate he's made it very clear he doesn't want.
He's never been selfless before, but for Harry, he can try.
Kept in Cages by @sweet-s0rr0w (76k)
Deep in the heart of the Ministry lies the Beast Division: a hidden room where ancient beasts roam, and winged creatures soar, and grumpy giant ferrets eat all your biscuits unless you keep them well hidden. Draco Malfoy would know – he’s been working there for five years now, after all.
Meanwhile, on Level One, ex-Golden Boy Harry Potter is stuck in another interminable policy meeting, completely unaware of the mysterious comings and goings just three floors below. But when a giant snake emergency requires the assistance of a Parselmouth, Harry finds himself thrust, unprepared, into Draco’s weird and wonderful world – and naturally, he can’t keep away…
Modern Love by @tackytigerfic (61k)
Harry Potter, of all people, knows that life isn’t always fair. And no one gets to be happy all of the time. But surely there’s something more—something better—than a rubbish Ministry job, and a lonely old house, and that feeling that everyone out there is doing a better job of living than Harry is.
And it really doesn’t seem fair that Draco Malfoy is back in Harry’s life, all of a sudden, and even though he’s wandless, and living with Muggles, and making his mother cry with his lifestyle choices, he’s happy. So what's he doing right, that Harry isn’t?
Because things don’t really change, do they? And if Harry can’t be happy, he’ll settle for a good night’s sleep, some posh antiques, and the opportunity to find out what Malfoy has been up to for all these years.
And that’s what starts it all.
Here's The Pencil, Make It Work by @6balls (49k)
Harry thinks "Why is Malfoy working in a coffee shop in muggle London?" is a much simpler question than, "Are you going to accept that auror offer and, if you don't, what will you do?"
Burn the Witch by @lettersbyelise (95k)
When Harry Potter is sent in to investigate Draco Malfoy’s successful potions company, posing as Draco’s bodyguard, he doesn’t know the case will launch a series of events that will change his life — and Draco’s.
A story about choices, scars, Chopin piano pieces, and finding all kinds of love in the most unexpected places.
Who we are in the shadows by @quicksilvermaid (99k)
What happens when you’re forced to become the very thing you despise?
Ex-Auror Harry Potter, tossed out of the Ministry for something he had no control over, has been looking for a way back to his former life. When he comes across Draco Malfoy in the criminal underbelly of Wizarding London and in need of protection, Harry figures bringing him in to face the Ministry's justice is his ticket back to everything he's lost.
But nothing is exactly as it seems. Not even Harry himself. And as he gets drawn further and further into Malfoy's world of honour and deception he finds himself questioning everything he thought he knew—about his childhood nemesis, the Ministry job he misses so much, and most of all, about himself.
What happens when you’re forced to see that you were wrong?
Changing Tides by @carpemermaidtales (109k)
Draco has spent half of his life spouting the things his father has taught him without much thought about how he feels about what he says. When he unexpectedly comes face to face with the Dark Lord, he grapples with the harsh realities of the world and struggles with his changing views on life. Instead of doing what’s expected of him fifth year, he joins Dumbledore’s Army and learns how to defend himself, how to make his own choices, and how he can be something greater than his father’s example as he grows into his own man rather than his father’s shadow. The choices he makes change both his and Harry’s fates, intertwining their paths until they converge.

THE BIG FIND 2023: Day 2
The Big Find is a 10-day long Drarry fic-finding marathon to celebrate the blog’s anniversary. Below is the Day 2 compilation of lost fics, both old and new, that we’ve been unable to find. Our aim is to get as much attention to these lost fics as possible, to help people finally find their missing fics! Anyone can participate by reblogging, reading through each list, providing additional fic details, and informing us the title, author, or link of a fic, and their respective number in the comment section. Happy finding!
2.1 I’m not confident if it was in portuguese or english. Harry was an auror and Draco was an unspeakable and they were together on a mission were eventually they were captured into a sex traffic scheme. It was HEAVILY angsty and I think they were rescued by Rabastan Lestrange (i’m pretty sure it was him, but I think that it may be Rodolphus instead). It’s been YEARS since Iast read it but it made an impression.
2.2 Fairly sure that the fic was on ao3 and a wip but could be completely off the mark. The only thing I remember is that at Gringotts: the Potters’ will is read and specifically both Lucius Malfoy and Snape’s presence is requested; which is questioned by others present at the time of the reading. The Potters are aware that there is a connection between Harry and Draco - I’m guessing soulmate, mate if creature fic hence the request of Lucius. Possibly anti-Dumbledore but again not positive. fic is not ‘And The Forest Met The Sky’ by Silverhood, The Black Star by Aileen Dickinson, or Lord Thanatos by wonderfulWonderful 505
2.3 veela!Draco fic. Harry is draco’s mate and is extremely unhappy about it. Draco keeps his distance and nearly die because of it (veelas, in this universe, die if they are rejected), and Harry makes a unbreakable vow (i think that it is with narcisa) that he will at least try to be around. They eventually develop a relationship and Harry starts to search a new house for them, but Draco thinks that he is been cheated and die because of the perceived rejection. Harry eventually dies because of the vow he made and they meet again in a kind of heaven, where they also meet Lily, James, Sirius, Severus, Remus and other canon dead characters.
2.4 could have been on Ao3 or Hexfiles. It’s Draco’s birthday. Harry’s pov. Draco is in love with him. They have been friends for some years (and secretly in love, even though it’s only revealed in the end that Harry fell in love too). Draco always dances with everybody at his birthday except Harry. Tonight they dance. At some point Blaise says to Harry something like he should let Draco go so he could be with someone. There are plenty of people interested in Draco. Harry is surprised someone has noticed something is going on between them. Harry is married to Ginny and has kids with her. He can’t leave her. His thing with Draco started many years ago at his birthday party, when they talked about the war in a rose garden. They suddenly kissed. My memory might be failing me here, but I think they started eating lunch together maybe every week. They became friends, but also coudn’t help falling in love. At the time of one Draco’s birthday party (in the past) Ginny was giving birth or just birthed her and Harry’s twins. Harry was at the party without her. The need between him and Draco got too strong and Harry gave him a blowjob in the bathroom. That was the only sexual encounter between them. In the end Harry maybe dashes out of the party and Draco follow and confronts him. Harry admits he didn’t fall in love alone. I’m not sure if it was a wip or oneshot. It was all angst and hurt with strong chemistry and longing.
2.5 Ron is toasting the happy couple, maybe at their engagement party or wedding. He’s giving affectionate anecdotes about Draco’s bad behavior at school. Like, “remember the time he challenged Harry to a duel in the forbidden forest and then didn’t show?” (Not the exact quote.)
2.6 probably (like 90% sure) on ao3, but I read it a long time ago so I can’t remember. The plot was basically Harry forced to be with Draco in marriage or partnership. Initially Draco was very abusive, but slowly warms up to Harry. Harry gets to know the reason behind Draco’s behaviours is Lucius’ child abuse. Draco has secret bondage dungeon. He also has a shrine of Harry. Harry gets pregnant. Lucius is the main villain here. Narcissa & Snape are also here, along with the Weasleys though the later don’t make much of an appearance. Snape is the one who supplied the pregnancy potion to Harry. In one scene Draco admires Ginny’s attitude thinking she would’ve been good for Harry. In another scene, Draco & Harry are having sex, and Draco is clutching Harry by his throat but Harry loving runs his fingers through Draco’s hair. When their child is born Lucius wants to take it away but the healer who helped deliver stands in the way. Earlier in the fic Draco forces Harry to take poly juice so he could fuck a girl. Lucius dies in a fire at the end. The fire is at Malfoy manor. Though I’m not sure, but I think they spent their Christmas at the Weasleys where Draco promises to gift something to Molly. The fic also had an Author’s note on how they’ve forgiven someone for doing something similar in real life, replying to comments on how Draco is abusive to Harry.
2.7 drarry little mermaid AU. It was a dark fic, based on the original little mermaid not the Disney version and it was dark and didn’t have a happy ending. I think Draco was an elf/fae rather than a mermaid
2.8 All I remember is that it was Draco/Astoria, Harry/Ginny. Before it becomes Drarry, it was 50 chapters, and complete, I clearly remember a tag that said everyone gets a happy ending except astoria in all lowercase letters.
2.9 What I remember of the fic is only one scene so bear with me, Draco and Harry are in relationship I think and Draco is also there when order members come to take him from privet drive. And he also attends Bill’s wedding but during the death eaters attack he gets caught and they take him away to the manor, Harry cries alot after that. I this is multi chaptered. In this fic Draco defected I guess and he attends the marriage and disguises like how Harry does, but he is revealed and he is taken to the manor. Harry is devastated and then he keeps seeing him through his connection with voldermort being tortured or something. They are already in relationship at this point. fic is not The Wrong Sort by CaffeinatedFlumadiddle
2.10 harry is getting married to Ginny and he’s sorting out all of the things for the wedding and one of them is the cake. Draco works or owns the bakery that Harry is getting the cake from and they both start to talk and get closer. That’s when Harry realises that he’s not ready to marry Ginny because a certain blonde has his heart. I’m sure Harry, when ever he’s in doubt or just bored he apparates to the bakery and dracos always holding the daily prophet to see what the saviour of the wizarding world is up to.
2.11 it was on ao3 and i read it a long time ago (i wouldn’t be surprised if it didn’t exist any more) but what i remember from it was pretty intense bdsm experimentation (between harry and draco) and they both started developing feelings but weren’t saying anything and i recall them fkin around in an abandoned class room? one scene i remember vividly is harry getting triggered by something draco says or did but it had something to do with his trauma with the dursleys and he calls out the safe word for the first time (which was snitch).
2.12 I’m looking for this specific drarry texting story I read on YouTube over 3 years ago. I think that it’s no longer on YouTube, but I wanted to know if it was ever posted on any other social media. The story goes like - Ron gives Harry the password to use the prefect bathroom where Harry stumbles upon Draco. Draco ends up doing some spells with the water (like a water snake like thing) and it fascinated Harry but Draco doesn’t really indulge in the conversation. When Harry tries to leave, Draco cages him and they end up having sex.
2.13 fic on ao3 where its set in 8th year and harry and draco are still fucked up meet up to (or just end up) fight(ing) a lot and one time harry takes it a bit too far and punches draco in the stomach, and draco throws up blood? And harry has to call madame pomphrey i believe. I dont think it was a particularly long fic but thats all i can remember.
2.14 harry and draco are twins but (i think) they were separated and then they got together like finding out they are twins and also dating lmao and okay then?? they became like rulers of the wizard world by making treaties and stuff w creatures and all that

HD Mirror of Erised fic recs
Here are a few drarry fic recs featuring the mirror of erised, some more heavily than others. Listed in alphabetical order, as always.
Azoth by @lol-zeitgeistic [88k]
Now that Harry is back at Hogwarts with Hermione for eighth year, he realises that something’s missing from his life, and it either has to do with Ron, his boggart, Snape, or Malfoy. Furthermore, what, exactly, does it mean when one’s life is defined by the desire to simultaneously impress and annoy a portrait? Harry has no idea; he’s too busy trying not to be in love with Malfoy to care.
red and green are complimentary colours by  ace_0fhearts [88k]
After the war Hermione manages to convince Harry to go back to Hogwarts for his eighth year. Expecting an uneventful year of classes and rooming with the other Gryffindor boys, he’s surprised when McGonagall tells him he’ll be sharing a room with Draco Malfoy.
Now Harry has to get through a year of arguments and awkward silences. Or he would, if Malfoy would stop ignoring him and moping around the castle alone.
Or: Draco and Harry fall in love through sleepless nights and late night quidditch games
Stars As Bright Spots Only by Slytherincess [66k]
Draco Malfoy is struggling to maintain his sanity while carrying out his duties as a sixteen-year-old Death Eater. Draco tries to take solace in Polyjuice, a loyal friend, and an enchanted hand mirror, and finds there’s more than meets the eye in the Mirror of Erised. The events of Half-Blood Prince as interpreted from Draco’s POV.
Through the Looking Glass and What Draco Found There by @magpiefngrl [17k]
Draco discovers the Mirror of Erised is a portal and he enters an alternate reality where your deepest  desires come true.
Or how Draco found himself in the world of his dreams and Potter had to come and ruin it.
Written on the Heart by who_la_hoop [113k]
Harry doesn’t mind that so many Slytherins from his year have returned to finish their NEWTs, really he doesn’t. It’s just – do they have to be so friendly? He’s not prejudiced, really he’s not. It’s just – they’ve got to be up to something, right? Unnerved by the attention he’s attracting from everyone – the Slytherins are the least of it, to be fair – and struggling with a raft of changes to Hogwarts itself, Harry wishes he could be happy that one constant remains: Draco Malfoy really fucking hates him.
When he’s hit by an illegal love-spell though, Harry finds he has more to worry about than whether or not Blaise Zabini actually wants to be his friend. For if everyone affected has been blessed – or cursed, by the look on Malfoy’s face – with a magical tattoo revealing the name of their soulmate, what does it mean that Harry’s skin remains completely bare?
I hope you enjoy these stories as much as I did!

We broke up a month ago
Your friends are mine, you know, I know
You've moved on, found someone new
One more girl who brings out the better in you - happier by Olivia Rodrigo
Draco sat with his girlfriend [Astoria]. Her pretty giggles leave her as he lets his hands wander to her hips. His eyes leave her pearly white smile looking over to the other end where you are. He felt his heart tug; you two hadn't talked in a month since he began dating Astoria. You simply told him your friendship needed to be over and patted his shoulder giving him a warm smile, you told him there were no hard feelings and that it was better this way but he didn't think it was… he'd missed you but nevertheless he nodded agreeing with you though he still wasn't sure why you ended it but now he only heard about you through your friends, which were his as well but you to didn't talk anymore.
And I thought my heart was detached
From all the sunlight of our past
But she's so sweet, she's so pretty
Does she mean you forgot about me? - Olivia Rodrigo
You never seemed to leave his mind and maybe it was greed, having his best friend and a girlfriend made him feel great. You were both his in a way and you wouldn't be anyone else's or that's what he thought before he saw you with Blaise doing what you used to do with him but it was different something was missing from you two [you and Blaise] that he and you had, maybe it was your connection. No that wasn't it because you looked as though the two of you were never friends at all like he'd imagined it all. He wondered if he Crossed your mind or if you had washed away years of friendship like soap down a drain. Hard to get every bubble off the sink but eventually it would be rinsed clean.
Oh, I hope you're happy
But not like how you were with me
I'm selfish, I know, I can't let you go
So find someone great, but don't find no one better
I hope you're happy, but don't be happier - Olivia Rodrigo
He was glad you'd gotten a friend like Blaise; he was great and you deserved that but he wasn't satisfied knowing he couldn't be the one who listened to you and made you smile. He liked it for you but he didn't like it for himself.
And do you tell her she's the most beautiful girl you've ever seen?
An eternal love bullshit you know you'll never mean
Remember when I believed you meant it when you said it first to me? - Olivia Rodrigo
He couldn't help but pay attention to your interactions with Blaise when you all went out as a group. The way you'd smile and say you were lucky to have him, [Blaise] that you hoped your friendship lasted forever. He would fill with rage; His fist would clench and he'd almost, almost call you a liar and say you betrayed him when you told him that in you guys third year.
And now I'm pickin' her apart
Like cuttin' her down will make you miss my wretched heart
But she's beautiful, she looks kind
She probably gives you butterflies - Olivia Rodrigo
He truly thought he could hate Blaise for taking you away but the truth was you'd left him. Blaise didn't make you leave, he'd never do that knowing your friendship was everything to Draco. He knew Blaise would be everything you needed in a friend and if he wasn't so upset he'd expect it especially since you were practically rushing in his arms to tell Blaise everything like you trusted him.
I hope you're happy
But not like how you were with me
I'm selfish, I know, I can't let you go
So find someone great but don't find no one better - Olivia Rodrigo
He loved Astoria but he loved your friendship. Astoria would ask him what was bugging him. Should he say he was jealous you weren't his anymore? should he say he couldn't handle that you weren't next to him like before? He couldn't and he shouldn't, that's his girlfriend. He really wants you back but he also wants whatever makes you happy.
I hope you're happy
I wish you all the best, really
Say you love her, baby, just not like you loved me
And think of me fondly when your hands are on her
I hope you're happy, but don't be happier - Olivia Rodrigo
He couldn't stand it anymore. He had to know why you ended things so he rushed into your room not caring if it was late or who was around he needed an answer. "Why'd you do it Huh?" He shouts causing you to look startled and the other girls to rush out the room. "Why'd you end our friendship, couldn't stand me anymore or something?!" He knew he looked crazy now, standing there throwing a tantrum over you.
"Draco please, not now you should sleep" you tried to reason with him but he only saw that you wanted him away more. "No you can't do that, you can't just throw us out the window" he growled and that was the last straw as you stood in front of him, eyes filled with rage and…tears. "I did it because I loved you!, and I couldn't be your friend while you dated someone! it didn't feel right, not like it used to. I wanted to be her so bad it consumed me with rage! I remembered hearing you say it and I…" you trembled looking at the floor and Draco couldn't believe he'd missed it."I didn't want to accept that you weren't mine.
It hurted to much it made me feel like I'd lost you! I couldn't handle that, not when I loved you as much as I did. So I didn't throw our friendship out the window! I fell in love with you and couldn't be your friend knowing I wanted more." you said and Draco was in shock. He couldn't believe he'd been so dumb enough to not see it. That's what was missing with you and Blaise! you loved him and you were just friends with him. "You- you loved me?" he asked as if he needed confirmation. "I did, but you are with Astoria" you looked away from him and he felt his heart drop into his stomach as he realized.
He'd been in love with you too but you didn't feel the same anymore, or at least that's how it sounded now as you dropped to your bed and Blaise ran to your side to comfort you.
You two had love and Blaise and you had friendship. He just was to blind to see it before…
Ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh - Olivia Rodrigo

Wandless https://ift.tt/5k6tXdv by JCAndrijeski Born with a form of magic unseen in centuries in the wizarding world, Draco Malfoy's very existence is illegal according to ancient wizard law. That same law says he should have been killed at birth, but Lucius had other ideas on how to use and train his son. Hermione Granger always thought Malfoy didn't quite add up, in terms of who he seemed to be, or who he wanted everyone to think he was, at least. She's heard the rumors about him, of course, about how he supposedly suffered from some rare illness as a child and was never seen until he appeared at Hogwarts as a first year. By sixth year, the contradictions strike her as even more obvious, but her best friends only see him as a possible death eater, one likely infiltrating the school on some dark mission from Voldemort or his father. Note #1: There's some overlap with the original storyline in the beginning / during 6th year, but there's pretty big divergences planned, particularly post-Hogwarts Note #2: I'll update tags as I go. No cameras catch my pageant smile I counted days, I counted miles To see you there, to see you there It's been a long time coming, but
Or, Draco has a desire to learn more about Astoria when he sees her again.
Note: I really struggled with this song! I started this fic in Astoria's POV and scrapped the whole thing about half way through and started writing from Draco's POV, which I find quite funny at certain points in this fic. Anyways, I chose to focus on a few lines from the song such as, 'no cameras catch my pageant smile,' 'you play stupid games, you win stupid prizes,' 'no cameras catch my muffled cries,' 'and I don't want you to (go), I don't really wanna (fight),' and of course, the title lyric 'voted most likely to run away with you.' I hope you enjoy! Thank you to the @cruelsummer-ficfest mods for the challenge of this one!
Read on AO3
His parents were upset. Since he was a baby, he’d spent every Christmas with them. The only one he’d missed was in fourth year when he went to the Yule Ball. Now, he was abandoning them to globe trot with his friends for five days. At least, that was what his mother said. Her glare had been so icy when he’d walked out the front door that he thought shards would be embedded into his jacket. Theo met him at the gate of Malfoy Manor and then they were Apparating to the Portkey site.
When Theo had asked Draco to come to Athens, he’d been surprised then suspicious. Pansy and Blaise were the ones who invited him to social events. Theo was quiet and kept to himself, but he and Draco had a pleasant enough relationship over the years. When they were in school, Theo had been the only roommate who Draco could stand. Crabbe and Goyle were both loud sleepers and dead to the world once they were asleep. Blaise had been entitled and pushy. Theo was quiet and took up little space. Most times, Draco barely noticed he was there. Besides, Athens would be a good way to get his mind off of Astoria Greengrass dancing all over his heart on the Zabini’s dancefloor.
Since the Zabini wedding at the beginning of summer, Draco had been steadily avoiding her, only giving her clipped responses when she approached him at any pureblood soirées and more often than not, making excuses not to talk to her altogether. By the end of the summer, Astoria seemed to finally take the hint. She hadn’t spoken to him since.
Which was for the best. Someone as clean as Astoria Greengrass didn’t deserve to be tainted by his reputation.
Or him with his tainted hands and battered soul.
When they arrived at the suite, Theo pushed the door open. Draco stepped into what looked like a sitting room levitating his luggage behind him. It was pristine with a white couch and two armchairs gathered around a table. The kitchen was right next to it, marble countertops gleaming from the light over the sink. There were four doors, two on each wall, leading to what Draco assumed were bedrooms and a beautiful balcony overlooking the city.
Daphne was seated on the couch, her legs tucked underneath her, and her blonde hair pulled into a high ponytail. Across from her sat Marcus Flint, which shocked Draco to the core. He was still as broad as ever, dwarfing Daphne. He was clean shaven and was eying Draco with a look of surprise and confusion. Theo hadn’t told Daphne that he was coming then.
Draco nodded to the older man. “Flint.”
“Malfoy,” he said pleasantly enough. Off the pitch, Flint wasn’t so bad to be around, a bit rough around the edges though.
Daphne’s brow furrowed. “I didn’t realize you were bringing company, Theo.”
Theo shrugged. “I didn’t think you’d mind.”
“I don’t,” she said. “Draco, you knew Marcus was my cousin, didn’t you?”
Draco shook his head. He’d never really paid attention to the Greengrass family tree.
“Well, now you do,” she said. “He’ll be vacationing with us.”
Draco didn’t know why she felt the need to state the obvious.
“In here,” Theo said, nodding to one of the rooms.
Rolling his eyes, he stepped into the room Theo was staying in and let his luggage drop to the floor. He hadn’t expected the twin beds, and Theo was steadily avoiding eye contact with him.
“Why are we sharing a room?” Draco said lowly.
“What? You don’t fancy bonding with me?” Theo said with a quirk of his eyebrow.
“I had enough bonding with you when we shared a dorm at Hogwarts,” he said. Merlin, that had been an adjustment. Until that point, Draco was used to being an only child and that meant having a whole manor to himself, dozens and dozens of dust covered rooms to explore. Having to share a room with six different boys had been a nightmare.
Turning on his heel, Draco marched back into the sitting room to demand that someone switch rooms with him only to be met with the rich brown eyes of Astoria Greengrass. The Greengrasses were clearly in the middle of a reunion, Astoria still in Flint’s arms and Daphne grinning broadly at both of them. There was shock in her eyes as she watched him, and Draco felt the urge to turn back around and spend the rest of this vacation locked in that bedroom with Theo, as unpleasant as that would be.
He wasn’t afforded that opportunity though.
“We should all go out to celebrate,” Daphne said, clapping her hands. “We haven’t seen Marcus in ages, and I know where we can get the best wine in the city.”
#
As it turned out, Daphne didn’t end up getting any kind of wine. Instead, she downed four margaritas in such a quick succession that she was ten times more talkative than usual. Lucky for Draco, she sat next to Theo. His evening was filled with watching Theo squirm as Daphne prattled on, only barely letting him get two words in edge wise. Draco thought it served Theo right for tricking him into coming on this trip.
If there was one word that summed up Theodore Nott, it was observant. He was sure to have noticed that Draco had avoided Astoria after the Zabini wedding. For some morbid reason, he seemed to find Draco’s discomfort amusing. Little did anyone know, he’d been ready to bare his soul to Astoria when she’d stranded him on that dance floor. It was truly a blessing that she left when she did. It saved him the trouble of picking up the pieces of his shattered heart later on when he was more invested in . . . whatever it was they had been dancing around.
Draco rolled over for the fourth time. This bed was small and terribly uncomfortable — much too firm compared to what he was used to. As he glanced over at his roommate, Theo seemed quite content. He was facing the opposite wall, his breathing even. Rolling his eyes, Draco climbed out of bed and grabbed his wand — a habit Aunt Bella had instilled in him. Fresh air would clear his head and hopefully zap some of the energy out of him.
Gently, he opened his bedroom door and slipped into the sitting room. The moonlight was streaming in from the balcony, casting a soft glow on the room. The door to the balcony was cracked. Palming his wand, Draco slowly slipped over to the edge of the door, careful to keep himself out of sight. When he glanced outside, he saw Astoria and Flint sitting in the lounge chairs, their backs toward him. Astoria’s hair was loose and curling around her shoulders. It reminded him of the night she’d let it down on the dock before Pansy’s wedding. She had looked beautiful with those brown eyes high from the joint they’d been smoking. He had no doubt that she looked just as beautiful now, though he couldn’t see her face. However, he did spot another cigarette hanging between her fingertips.
“I didn’t realize you were on a first name basis with Malfoy,” he heard Flint say.
Astoria didn’t say anything for a moment. “What gave you that impression?”
“Earlier when I asked if you knew that he and Nott were going to be here, you said, ‘Daphne only told me Theo was coming, not Draco.’”
“We’ve talked before,” Astoria admitted, and Draco felt a spark of outrage. If she dared to say one thing about the time they’d spent together — dared to tell Flint that she’d touched his Mark — he would burst onto that balcony now and obliviate them both. He didn’t care if it was illegal.
“He’d be bad for you.” Flint’s voice pulled Draco from his anger. “He’s entitled and selfish. He only looks out for himself. You could do better.”
Flint was right. Astoria could do much better than him with her witty remarks and her stunning smile. Merlin, even Potter talked to her if the rumors from the Ministry were anything to go by. And Draco was bitterly jealous because all he could think of was that night on the dock when she’d touched his Mark. It felt like someone had really seen him for the first time in a very long time. And just as he’d been ready to share his darkest moments with her, she’d left him on that dancefloor.
Astoria scoffed. “I didn’t see you complaining about his entitlement when you got a Nimbus 2001 out of it.”
“This isn’t Quidditch, Astoria,” Flint said, and Draco could hear his eye roll. Flint didn’t say anything else for a moment. Just as Draco thought their conversation was over, Flint spoke again. “How much of that do you take now?”
From where he was standing, Draco could see Flint nod to the joint between his cousin’s fingers. Astoria simply lifted the cigarette to her mouth and took a long drag. Draco had never wanted to be an inanimate object more.
“Enough,” she said. “Why are you so concerned?”
“I’m always concerned about you, Astoria.” It was the first time Draco had heard Flint sound honestly sincere. Even though he couldn’t see the older man’s face, Draco could tell that he was staring at Astoria intently. Almost as intently as she was avoiding his gaze.
“Well, stop worrying about me,” she said finally. “It’s bad for your blood pressure.”
There was an undertone to their words. Though they seemed like simple questions, Draco got the feeling that they were talking in some kind of code. Flint wasn’t talking about her drug intake, at least not entirely. Draco leaned toward the glass door unconsciously. He was beginning to realize this is what Astoria did to him — made him want to learn more about her and store each golden nugget of information away for later use. His knee loudly knocked the table in front of him, and he quickly grabbed it to keep it from toppling over. Angry footsteps sounded on the balcony. He was going to die.
Quickly, Draco cast a disillusionment charm and pressed his back against the wall.
Flint yanked the glass door all the way open, and Draco flinched at the rage that covered his face. He scanned the room slowly, his eyes narrowed. Glancing down, Draco noticed his wand was in his left hand and his sleeves were rolled up, his Dark Mark on full display. When Draco’s gaze returned to the older man’s face, he was looking directly at Draco, squinting slightly. Fear slithered up his stomach and into his throat. Flint was going to hex him, possibly kill him.
“Quit being paranoid, Marcus,” Astoria called. She hadn’t even bothered to turn around from what Draco could see. “It was probably just the wind.”
Marcus glanced around the room once more before firmly shutting the glass door.
Draco let out the breath he’d been holding. After waiting a few moments and sneaking a few glances out of the glass door to make sure Astoria and Flint weren’t suspicious, Draco hurried back to his room and promptly closed the door.
Theo was still sleeping. The bastard.
#
The only good thing about shopping in Athens was that he couldn’t go wrong with whatever he decided to buy his mother. The mink stoles were just to her taste, the feather hats just the right mix of delicate and sophisticated, the pearl bracelets just expensive enough without being gaudy. Draco knew he couldn’t come back empty handed if he wanted to spend the next few months without her silent glares of judgement. His father was the tricky one. While his mother liked expensive things, his father liked rare things — things that he could drag out once a year to show his friends. Draco would find nothing like that here.
“That has to be the ugliest hat I’ve ever seen.”
Draco’s head snapped to the right as Astoria came to stand beside him. She was as stunning as usual in her dark red lipstick, long sleeved green dress, and green beret. It should have been ridiculous — especially since they were in Athens, not Paris — but Astoria pulled it off beautifully. Draco thought she could pull off a potato sack. She fixed her dark brown eyes on him, a smile starting to curve at the corners of her mouth.
“I don’t think you could pull it off,” she said, nodding to the red and black monstrosity he’d been examining.
Draco sputtered. “It’s not for me.”
“Oh.” She turned back to the hat. “Well, that’s good because it wouldn’t suit your complexion at all.”
Rolling his eyes, Draco turned back to the display of hats. If he ignored her, she would get bored and leave, or Flint would pull her attention away from him. Then he could go on about his day trying to forget that she smelled like jasmine or the soft feel of her back against his fingertips or the gentle way she’d run her fingertips over his Mark. Yes, it was best to forget all about those things before she made him do something that was likely to get him hexed by Flint.
“You really shouldn’t eavesdrop on people, you know,” she said casually. “Your mother would find it obscene.”
Draco froze, the silk brim of a hat still between his fingers. With his heart beating rapidly, he tried to think of a moment during the previous night that Astoria might have caught a glimpse of him. However, she’d had her back turned to the glass door the whole time. There was no way she would have seen him.
“I didn’t-” Before he could even finish his lie, Astoria roughly pinched his bicep.
Draco yelped and stepped away from her.
“You play stupid games, you win stupid prizes,” she said, never taking her eyes off the display in front of her. Anger surged up inside him like a tidal wave. Who did she think she was? Stomping all over his newfound hope one minute and physically abusing him in public the next? Draco would not stand for this.
“You have no idea-”
“You could just talk to me, you know,” she said, turning to him suddenly and stepping forward. As she invaded Draco’s personal space, his mouth went dry and any harsh words he was going to say before were now drifting from his mind like a soft breeze. Astoria’s eyes were beautiful, especially when he could make out the different shades of brown in them — the light caramel, the deep umber, the rich coffee. They held sincerity and an earnestness that Draco wanted to believe in so bad. Yet he couldn’t forget the last time he’d let himself believe that anyone might be willing to look past the picture that was painted of him after the war — couldn’t forget the way his heart had shattered when she’d turned and practically run away from him.
“I have nothing to say to you,” he whispered lowly. He couldn’t even manage a decent glare, only a slight narrowing of his eyes.
“Right,” she muttered, looking down. “Well, if you change your mind, you know where to find me.”
#
Draco swore that he wasn’t going to go out on the balcony that night. Even if Theo was as silent as the dead in his bed, Draco was positive he could hear him breathing. That was the reason he was climbing out of bed, not because he hoped to see a certain brunette in the moonlight again. It was more than any sane person could be expected to bear. His father would never have stood for it. As Draco softly closed his bedroom door, he glanced toward the balcony. He wasn’t going out there. He was just going to sit on the couch; maybe sleep there since he knew that he wouldn’t be able to sleep in that room with Theo. Without even realizing it, he was already standing in front of the cracked sliding door.
Astoria was just as beautiful as she had been the night before, the moonlight casting an ethereal glow on her. Her hair was pulled back into a slick ponytail this time, and Draco could make out the sides of her face — her delicate nose that she shared with her sister, the dark lipstick she hadn’t taken off yet, the high arch of her eyebrow. There was weariness there, too — in her pale skin, the faint dark circles under her eyes, the slight droop of her shoulders. She was never so vulnerable in the day with those pageant smiles and barbed words that she wore like armor. Yet here in the dark, she seemed to have shed them like a snakeskin.
Draco silently pushed the door open.
When he took a seat next to her, she didn’t seem surprised, didn’t even bother to spare him a second glance. Nerves settled in the bottom of Draco’s stomach. Perhaps, he should have stayed in the sitting room. The couch was far more comfortable than this chair anyway. But curiosity overtook him.
“How’d you know it was me last night?”
When she finally looked over at him, Astoria was grinning. “Because Daphne would have come outside, and Theo wouldn’t have gotten caught.”
Draco sputtered as his cheeks bloomed red. This was obviously a horrible idea. After all, Astoria only ever insulted him or used him to cure her morbid fascination with the Dark Lord and his followers. But she started to laugh at the look on his face, and Draco flopped back in his chair pouting. How was he ever supposed to leave her be when her laugh sounded that lovely?
“Do you enjoy inadvertently insulting people?” he asked, crossing his arms.
“Only you,” she crooned, and Draco thought he could live with that.
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw her reach into a small plastic bag and begin to roll a joint. So, she rolled them herself. Fascinating. When she had finished, she pressed the cigarette between her lips and lit it with her wand. After she took a drag, she offered it to Draco. Silently, he snatched the cigarette from her fingers and inhaled.
“Where do you get this?” he demanded when he handed the joint back to her. “It doesn’t feel like back-alley shit.”
She laughed. “Do you think I’d buy back-alley shit?”
He shrugged. “Who’s your dealer?”
Astoria took a drag. “That’s none of your business.”
Draco didn’t bother to dignify that with a response. If she wanted to be evasive, let her. He could be evasive, too.
“So, are we going to talk about Venice?” she asked.
She was looking directly at him now, but Draco avoided her gaze. They’d done enough talking in Venice, and he was not about to open himself up to her again. So, silence would do. Besides, he was too intoxicated by the scent of jasmine to form a coherent thought anyway.
Astoria swung her legs over the lounge chair to face him. “Let’s play a game.”
Draco rolled his eyes. “What kind of game?”
“A questions game,” she said. “I ask you a question and you have to answer honestly. Then you ask me a question. And so on.” Draco glared at her. He was not born yesterday, and he was not playing that game. “You can go first.”
It was tempting. Learning about Astoria was like trying to break into a vault at Gringotts. All Draco really knew about her was that she was Daphne’s sister, she stood strongly against the Dark Lord, and she currently worked in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. She’d never shared anything deeply personal with him, but now she was offering.
“Who’s your dealer?”
“Pass,” she said. When Draco tried to protest, she shook her head. “We both get one pass. Ask something else.”
“Why is Flint so protective of you?”
A soft smile fell over Astoria’s face. “Marcus has always been that way. He’s like my older brother.” He’d never seen her this soft before. Her eyes weren’t as guarded, instead open; her body wasn’t tense, just relaxed. Draco wondered if that was due to the marijuana. “When we were kids, he’d get us out of trouble or cover up for us. For me really, because I was the one who dragged Daphne into trouble.” Draco snorted, which earned him a smile. “And if he’s harsh, it’s because the world has been incredibly unkind to him.”
Draco rather thought that it was the other way around. Marcus Flint had a reputation among the Death Eaters. He was ruthless. Whenever the Dark Lord had needed someone to disappear or needed information out of someone, there were a select few Death Eaters that were called on. Flint had been one of them. None of those on trial had mentioned his name because they were terrified of what he would do to them. According to rumors, he had a long reach, possibly even from inside Azkaban since the Ministry did away with the Dementors. His reputation contrasted starkly with the man who was currently on vacation with them.
“Who were you looking at that hat for?” she asked.
“My mother,” Draco said. That was easy enough.
Astoria raised her eyebrows. “Your mother?”
“Yes, my mother. She was upset when she found out I wouldn’t be spending the holidays with her and Father.”
“Why aren’t you spending the holiday with them?”
“It’s not your turn,” Draco said. Astoria rolled her eyes as if the rules were stupid, and she hadn’t come up with them herself. “When did you start disagreeing with what our society says about Mud- erm, Muggleborns?”
That hard look was back in Astoria’s eyes. She leaned back on her hands before she answered him. “I’ve never agreed with it. My father taught me to use my brain and to think critically before making any kind of decision. The idea of ‘pure blood’ always seemed ludicrous to me. It makes absolutely no sense. But if you’re asking when it solidified for me, it was my first year.” Astoria bit her lip, and Draco was transfixed. “The first person I met after the sorting was a boy named Lucas. We were really good friends, just one of those instant connections. He was a Slytherin and a Muggleborn. So, his life wasn’t easy. I couldn’t do much. Snape wasn’t much help. I was eleven, but I told Daphne to make sure he was safe and left alone, and I always stood up for him when I saw the older kids bully him. But that wasn’t enough. I don’t know who did it, but someone went into his dorm and painted the word ‘Mudblood’ over his bed, left his sheets in ribbons, and tore through his truck. He cried about it for weeks, which only made everyone tease him more. None of the Slytherins wanted anything to do with him and the other houses were wary of him because of the colors he wore. I’m sure it was a living hell. I found him trying to sleep on the couch in the common room one night, and I stayed with him. I’m pretty sure he cried himself to sleep. His parents pulled him out of Hogwarts two weeks later.”
Astoria was looking away from him, and Draco felt sorry for his school actions for the first time. While he hadn’t been the one who painted that boy’s bed, he was sure he could have easily figured out who did it. He’d never really thought of his actions’ effect on other people, only the immediate high he’d get after he said something mildly clever, and his friends laughed. In his mind, the people he bullied never had feelings, and there were never any lasting effects to his hateful remarks. He was beginning to realize how wrong he was.
“I didn’t . . . I didn’t know about that,” he muttered.
“Probably because you were too busy milking that hippogriff injury and trying to get Hagrid fired,” she said bluntly.
Draco winced. Perhaps not his finest moment.
Astoria stood then, stretching her arms above her head. Draco followed the movement, up her legs, past the strip of skin showing where her shirt had ridden up, onto the arch of her back and her breasts, until he reached her dark eyes. They were cloudy again, hiding the world’s secrets for all he knew. Suddenly, she seemed wiser than him. And closed off, he realized, because she was done revealing things about herself. A chill ran through him.
“As fun as this has been, my sister has a full itinerary planned for tomorrow, so I need some sleep.”
Draco stood quickly as she started to step past him and grabbed her upper arm. Her name slipped from his lips without his permission, and horror suddenly flooded him. He had absolutely no words for her, but she was looking up at him expectantly.
He cleared his throat. “Will you . . . will you be here tomorrow night?”
She smiled brilliantly. “I may be persuaded. Good night, Draco.”
#
“What do you think?” Daphne asked, holding up two tops that looked exactly the same, but in two different colors. How they’d ended up alone in the shop was a mystery to Draco, but Daphne had insisted she needed a second opinion, and since Astoria had disappeared with Flint and Theo, Draco would have to step in.
He’d never been particularly close with Daphne during their time at Hogwarts. She had flirted with Blaise all through their sixth year and started to date him in their seventh. At the time, Blaise had gotten on his nerves, too entitled and removed from the war for Draco to find him anything other than annoying and childish. There was also Pansy. Draco never found out what was between them, but Pansy was always passive aggressive with Daphne, like she posed some kind of secret threat. Because he hadn’t wanted to deal with one of Pansy’s tantrums, he had left Daphne alone and only spoke to her when necessary.
“I think the gold is more flashy, but the silver goes better with your undertones.” Something he would not have known if he hadn’t been dragged on shopping spree after shopping spree with his mother and forced to listen to her and her seamstress talk about undertones and matching jewelry and clothes together.
Daphne held the gold up to herself in the mirror then the silver. “Fuck, you’re right.”
Draco rolled his eyes.
“Your mother’s influence, I assume,” she said as she spun around to examine several skirts on the rack.
“Well, it certainly wasn’t my father’s.”
“No? He seems the type to know his undertone.”
Draco snorted, and Daphne flashed him a brilliant smile.
She was funny, he was realizing. There was a brightness to her that the world should have dimmed with its cruelness, but Daphne seemed determined to outshine that cruelty. Over the last hour, he’d heard about how Daphne’s grandmother and her father didn’t get along and how she didn’t know if she wanted to go to Rio in the New Year or Costa Rica. Daphne was an open book.
The difference between her and Astoria was like dawn and dusk. Daphne was always bright and chatty, while Astoria was standoffish. While Daphne seemed to care what others thought of her, Astoria couldn’t give a flying hippogriff what anyone said. Despite their differences, they seemed to get along splendidly from what Draco had seen, giggling together at lunch and teasing each other easily. It made Draco wonder what having a sibling would be like — what the ease and camaraderie would feel like.
“So, you’re avoiding my sister.”
Draco’s head snapped toward Daphne, but she was still examining the rack of skirts.
“I wouldn’t say that.”
“You wouldn’t? You seem determined to ignore her at the past few social events, and you’ve barely spoken to her on this trip.” Daphne glanced at him over her shoulder, blonde hair falling around her face. There was no judgement in her eyes, just curiosity. Yet another marked difference between her and her sister.
“Your sister is perplexing,” Draco said instead of answering her question.
And that was the truth of it. Astoria had so many layers to her that Draco never thought he’d make it to the center of who she truly was. Then there was Venice. Even after their conversation last night and the promise of another conversation tonight, Draco still couldn’t make himself let go of what had happened. He wasn’t a forgiving person by nature, and this was no exception.
Daphne hummed. “She is . . . special. Too good for this world.” Too good for him, he thought she meant. “I would not want to see her hurt.”
“I don’t think your sister would give anyone the power to hurt her.”
Daphne only laughed in response.

That night, Draco and Astoria established their routine. He would go to bed, toss and turn until he couldn’t stand Theo’s unnatural stillness, and then make his way out to the balcony where he would find Astoria, with a cigarette in hand. They ended up sitting on the edges of their seats facing each other with their knees brushing. Draco could smell the Mary Jane every time she exhaled above them.
“Why’d you start smoking?” he asked. They continued the game. Though Draco had been reluctant to answer her questions, he was curious about her, trying to get to the center of what made her tick. And she never asked anything that made him pass on a question; always things about him, like where he liked to vacation most, what his favorite dessert was, why he’d been such an asshole in school. That last one had been tongue in cheek.
But there were barbs in his words. Pansy and Blaise’s wedding had been brought up at dinner earlier. Very innocent really. Flint had asked about the wedding, and Daphne had started talking about it in minute detail with several sarcastic remarks from Astoria. During the whole conversation, Astoria’s eyes had kept sliding towards him, like she was trying to figure out what was going through his mind. Draco had left a bored expression on his face. If living with Death Eaters had taught him anything, it was how to wear a mask.
Astoria took a long drag before answering. “I was in . . . a very bad place after the war. It was hard for me to function sometimes. So, I got weed. It helped a little. At least I could function and if I needed a boost.” She put the cigarette to her lips and inhaled. “That’s all there was to it.”
Draco nodded.
“Why’d you take the Mark?”
Draco thought about passing, about brushing off the brutalness of the question and trying for something lighthearted. Astoria might let him, judging by her kind eyes and the gentle turn of her lips.
“I wanted to,” he said simply. “I wanted to make my father proud. My aunt as well. It was everything I’d grown up with.” Everything that he’d always been taught would bring him greatness. “I thought if my father was in Azkaban and my family’s reputation was in shambles then taking the Mark would be the first step to fixing it. I thought . . . I thought I could show the Dark Lord how valuable I was.” Instead, he’d been left with a shattered heart and a manor full of ghosts.
Astoria glanced away from him, her lip caught between her teeth. This was the part where she told him he should have known better, should have been smarter, should have seen that it was all a set up from the beginning. He braced himself for it, his knuckles turning white as he gripped the edge of his lounge chair.
“I’m sorry,” she said. It was the same thing she’d said when they had talked at the Goyle ball eons ago. No one had ever apologized for what he’d gone through; most people thought he brought it on himself.
Draco relaxed his grip slightly. If she was going to ask hard hitting questions like that, then he would do the same. Fair was fair, after all.
“Why’d you leave the Zabini wedding early?”
He could see her stiffen instantly. It was like he found her Pandora’s box, the one thing he wanted to desperately open, but she kept under lock and key. They’d been at the game for an hour or so, and she hadn’t used a pass yet. Draco thought she might use it now.
Then, “I was sick. Dizzy. Lightheaded. That’s all.”
It seemed too simple an answer, too calculated.
“Dizzy?” he said. “That seems a bit anticlimactic for how quickly you ran away.”
She returned her gaze to him then, outrage clearly painted on her face. “Well, I’m sorry my bout of dizziness wasn’t climatic enough for you. Next time, I’ll let myself faint in your arms, would that make you happy?” Her eyes were blazing now as she swung her legs over the edge of the lounge chair. “Then you can be the charming gentleman who caused the delicate lady to swoon?”
Anger eddied through him, causing his grip on the chair to tighten again. She was being condescending, and perhaps with good reason. However, she had started this game, and she had chosen to answer the question. If she didn’t like being pressed, then she should never have answered the question.
“No,” he snapped. “I would like to know why you left me after I offered you a goldmine of information on the Dark Lord to feed your morbid fascination with him.”
Hurt shot across her face before it was quickly washed away.
“I was never fascinated with him,” she said. Then her question hit him like a hex. “Why don’t you say his name? Are you still that scared of him?”
Draco leaned away from her like she stung him. She spoke as if it were easy, forgetting all the terror that the Dark Lord had instilled in his followers. Even his most loyal Death Eaters were not safe. He’d seen Aunt Bella come home with her eyes dull and bruises forming on her pale skin after a rough night. While the Dark Lord might be gone, the scars he left remained.
“I can’t just . . . say his name,” Draco said, his gaze on the sky suddenly as Astoria siphoned the truth out of him. She was brave and clever; she would think less of him for his reasoning. “He was . . . more brutal than you could imagine. I’d prefer to forget he even existed.”
“But you can’t let him have that power over you,” Astoria said fiercely. As she leaned toward him, jasmine filled his senses, and Draco dropped his eyes back to hers. “If you refuse to say his name out of fear or anger, you give him power, even from the grave. Voldemort is gone, and he is not coming back.”
Draco flinched when she said his name. There was nothing else for it. In time, he might be able to hear it and not bat an eyelash, but he didn’t think he’d ever be able to say it. Instead of answering, Draco turned his face toward the stars. He could spot Orion’s Belt and Cassiopeia. The stars seemed so far removed from all their worries, like they were too busy shining brightly to really have any problems. If Draco were a star, he imagined his problems would be miniscule as well.
Astoria sighed loudly, pulling Draco’s attention back to her. “I can’t figure you out.”
Draco laughed bitterly. “Well, I can’t figure you out either.”
She smiled at him and leaned forward like she might tell him a secret. “Perhaps we are both far more complicated than either of us imagined.”
“Perhaps.”
Astoria’s eyes were glittering with mischief now, casting a youthful glow over her face. Even the dark circles couldn’t take away from that. It was that mischief that had Draco leaning forward and pressing his lips to hers. They were soft and full against his own, and she tasted like weed. A high set into Draco’s veins, almost like the effects of the weed were transferred from her to him. Only Draco realized she wasn’t kissing him back.
His whole body went cold. Quickly, he pushed himself away from her, an apology already forming on his lips along with a cutting insult. Astoria caught the collar of his shirt, holding him within an inch of herself. Her breath danced across his lips, a teasing reminder of the kiss he had just given her. When their eyes meant, Draco was tempted to press his lips back to hers, just so he could have one last taste of her.
“I-”
“Don’t,” she interrupted. Then she softly kissed him. It wasn’t rushed or forceful like his had been. It was simple, honest. When she pulled away from him, she let his collar go and stood up. Draco was too stunned to stop her. “I’ll see you in the morning, Draco.”
Then she was gone, disappearing through the sliding door.
#
When Draco and his family came to Athens, they always stopped by Antoni’s, a fabulous restaurant with some of the best cuisine and wine in town. After mentioning it to Daphne, she had insisted that they stop there for supper. It was as phenomenal as always. Theo was delighted to see that they had moussaka with lamb, and Astoria insisted on trying the loukoumades, fried dough topped with honey and nuts. The group topped off their meal with a red blend from Crete that had notes of cinnamon and allspice.
Draco was listening to Daphne and Theo discuss who would be the next in their group to get married when he felt something brush against his calf. It felt like a foot. Astoria was sitting across from him, wine glass in hand, talking with Flint about Quidditch. When she noticed him examining her, her lips quirked upwards, and she took a sip of her wine.
They hadn’t discussed the kiss from the previous night, and Draco didn’t want it to ruin their last night together. That kiss stayed with him all through the night and today, though. He was unable to forget how warm she had been against him. It had been a fluke, he had reminded himself to keep from going insane. When she’d kissed him again, Astoria was merely being nice because she was a kind person. After this trip, he would go back to being miserable in Malfoy Manor, and she would continue to rise in the Ministry. There was no place in her life for someone like Draco.
“Astoria, come help me with a touchup?” Daphne asked as she stood up. Astoria quickly followed her.
“I’m going to run to the loo as well,” Theo said.
Then it was just Flint, Draco, and awkward silence. Wonderful. The only time Flint had been cordial with Draco was in his second year when he was handing him a Nimbus 2001. During practice, Flint was brutal, pushing his team to do their worst in order to win the Quidditch Cup. He’d been standoffish outside the pitch, much like he had been this whole vacation. Coldly friendly. Draco wished he’d gone to the bathroom with Theo; anything to be away from Flint’s stormy eyes.
“You need to stay away from Astoria,” he finally said.
Draco was so shocked his head snapped toward the older man. “Excuse me?”
“Stay away from her,” Flint repeated. “You can’t handle being with someone like her.”
He wasn’t surprised, especially after what he heard on the balcony, but it peeved him that Flint would discuss this topic so openly. They were in a restaurant, for fuck’s sake. Theo or the girls could easily walk back to the table and overhear their conversation.
“And what is that supposed to mean?” Draco demanded.
“Just what I said,” he replied. “You couldn’t handle it. Besides, Astoria wants a career in politics, and she can’t have dead weight like you dragging her down.”
Draco’s temper flared. “And you aren’t dead weight?”
Flint smirked. “I’m only her cousin, and quite out of the public eye except for my Quidditch coaching career. And no one pays attention to the coaches. People pay attention to romantic entanglements though.”
Romantic entanglements. Draco had never thought of them in that context. At least not until last night.
“I don’t need you meddling in my business, Flint,” he snapped.
“And I don’t need you fucking around my baby cousin’s feelings.”
“Marcus, we just saw the most delicious looking baklava being served to another table,” Daphne said as she returned to the table. “We have to try it.”
“It’s just food, Daph,” Astoria laughed. “Calm down.”
Draco’s temper was flaring in his chest, but instead of offering a snide remark, he grabbed his glass of wine and downed it. Only Flint noticed, his eyes fixed on Draco the whole time.
#
That night Draco made it out to the balcony before Astoria. It was only slightly chilly out, and he threw on an old button down and black trousers, not bothering to wait until Theo was soundly asleep. Draco had been subjected to enough of his sleep habits to last a lifetime. As he heard the glass door slide open, he looked over his shoulder to see Astoria closing it. She was wearing a pair of dark sleep pants and a tank top, both of which were silk. When she spun around, Draco caught a glimpse of her face. He noticed her eyes first. They were focused on him and slightly narrowed, determination shining there. Her mouth was slightly pinched into a frown. That frown sent a chill down his spine.
As Draco opened his mouth to ask her what was wrong, she strode toward him quickly. Her warm hands found his shoulders, and she used them to steady herself as she positioned her knees on either side of his thighs. Shock rippled through him. Astoria was going to sit in his lap, he realized. Automatically, his hands found her waist, her skin solid under the soft fabric of her shirt.
“What are you doing?” he hissed.
“I want to ask you something, and I thought you’d be more honest this way,” she said as she shimmied around to get comfortable. Draco sincerely hoped that she didn’t brush against anything unseemly. “How many people have you kissed?”
It was an odd question, which Draco might not have answered if her lips were not within inches from his own. She smelled sweet and spicy and everything about her was intoxicating. He had the urge to freeze this moment so he could feel her warmth against him, know what it was like to have her breath fanning against his face, memorize the curiosity painted in her irises.
“Enough,” he answered roughly, his voice dropping an octave.
“Good,” she said.
Then her lips were pressing against his own, more insistent than the night before. Though he knew it was coming, surprise still snaked through him, his hands blindly clinging to her shirt. Astoria was fine wine, rich and tart and revealing more flavors to him the more he tasted of her. Unsure of what she would allow him to do, he put all his energy into pressing his mouth against her own. Her lips were soft but urgent, and he tried his best to keep up, but he felt like he was drowning in her. Astoria was consuming him with her pretty gasps, her sweet smell, and her soft lips.
She asked him how many people he’d kissed, and now Draco was wondering how many people she’d kissed. It was clear she’d done this before by the way she was pressing herself against him in all the right ways. Draco had only kissed a handful of girls — Pansy, Tracey Davis, and some other Slytherins. He’d been intimate with even fewer of them.
She detached her lips from his mouth and started a trail of sucking kisses down his neck.
Draco had to force himself not to let out the most obscene moan.
“Why haven’t we been doing this the whole trip?” Astoria asked breathlessly.
Draco groaned and tugged her closer to him. He could have had four nights of this endless bliss. Instead of responding, he pressed his lips against her neck, delighted at the feel of delicate skin. Dropping her head back, Astoria gasped and clutched at his shoulders. This was the only way he could stop her smart mouth apparently, and he was not in the least bit upset about that.
Sliding his hand between her shoulder blades, Draco held her firmly while his lips continued downward. Gently, he swept his lips down to her collarbone, found the skin between her collarbone and shoulder, and bit down lightly. The smooth tips of her hair brushed against his hands, and Draco had to fight the urge to tangle his fingers in it. His other kisses had never felt like this. He had been attracted to the other girls, of course, but it was always physical. It was more about what he wanted and what those girls could offer him. With Astoria, it was more intense, more emotional. He wanted to please her, not just himself.
Astoria dunked her head and caught his lips again. This time, Draco was unable to hold back his moan, his hands grasping the nape of her neck. She turned gentle slowly, pressing her swollen lips tenderly against his own until they settled into a languid rhythm. Finally, she rested her forehead against his own, sharing the same breath as him.
This was what peace felt like, he realized. Quiet, Astoria’s fingers desperately clutching the collar of his shirt, his fingers brushing the edges of her jawline. Even before the war, he had never felt like this – had never been so content to sit in silence, sharing the same breath as another human being, and soaking in the glow of their presence. Draco thought he might like to live in this moment forever.
“Are you going to spend the New Year with your parents?” she asked finally.
Draco meant her eyes and saw calm there for the first time. He thought maybe this was his favorite version of her.
“Yes,” he said.
“I see.” Astoria tucked a piece of hair behind her ear. “Shame we won’t be doing more of this.”
“We won’t?” Disappointment colored his question.
She traced her fingertip over the top button of his shirt. “I don’t think so. You’ll go back to your manor and your self-imposed exile, and I’ll return to work and people who highly dislike you.”
Draco’s eyes narrowed. “Who?”
“Harry strongly warned me against coming on this trip if you were going to be here,” Astoria said with a grin. “He said you can’t be trusted.”
Draco scuffed. “Potter is a shithead with no taste. You shouldn’t listen to him.”
She laughed then. “That still leaves your self-imposed exile from society.”
Draco looked up at the sky, highly annoyed that she was right. Though he ventured into Diagon occasionally, he stayed on the manor grounds for the most part. It was far easier to come to foreign countries where very few people knew him and his reputation. Then he could be just another member of wizarding society and not a former Death Eater.
“You go back to work after the New Year?”
Astoria hummed.
“That’s a week away.”
“I know.”
“The French Alps are beautiful this time of year.”
“Are they? Daphne chose Athens. It’s more of a summer vacation spot. She’s terrible at planning vacations.” There was a pause. “I think I’d like to see the French Alps.”
“As would I.”
Quick as a flash, Astoria was climbing out of his lap, and Draco was following her into the flat. Gently, he closed the door behind him and slipped into his shared room. Theo was sleeping, his back facing the door. Draco rolled his eyes. If he had to share a room again, he would sleep on the floor in the living room. A quick spell had all his clothes flying into his luggage. After he tugged on a black coat, he reached for the door to his room.
“Where are you going?”
Draco spun around to see Theo staring at him, his elbows pressed into the bed. The bastard chose now to wake up?
“My mother-”
“Don’t lie, Draco,” Theo said, and he had never wanted to strangle a person more.
“To the French Alps,” he ground out.
Theo nodded before rolling back over. “Tell Astoria not to break her neck if she goes skiing.”
Draco ground his teeth and cursed his bad luck. Then he stepped out into the living room. Astoria was closing the door to her room, her own suitcase floating behind her. She’d changed out of the sleep clothes she had on previously. Now she was wearing a pair of high-waisted black trousers and a fuzzy green jumper. Her hands were wrapped in black gloves, sporting little gold buttons on the ends. Her hair was still slightly messy from earlier, but her eyes were bright with excitement.
“The French Alps?”
Draco nodded. “Yes, I know a place.”
He slid his hand into hers and then they were gone.

HPFWG's 2024 Point-of-View Workshop, Day 3
Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4, Day 5
Write a drabble in 300 words or less using third person limited point of view.
Bonus: show something missing from your character’s pov.
“What’s got you in such a foul mood?” Pansy asked as he settled into the Slytherin’s unofficial head of table.
Word had spread, though nobody knew the actual details of Draco’s mission. They just knew the Malfoy heir stood in a position once granted to his father. What they didn’t know was that the role choked more than glorified. He could feel the chain tightening as each second passed.
Fucking Potter, and his holier than thou needing to know everything all of the time.
”There was a rat,” he said. The others laughed at the joke he hadn’t made.
Across the hall, eyes glinted beneath a bushy mane.
A part of him wished she’d been the one spying—let her see what would have happened when he caught her. Draco wasn’t the type of wizard to lay hands on a witch, but he could be convinced to bend the rules just for Granger. He had yet to pay her back, after all. He’d get his hands on her and then…
Draco watched as she turned to say something to the Weasel. How were they even friends, anyway? That entire family probably couldn’t understand a single word that came out of her swotty mouth.
”Draco. You’re staring again.”
He turned to raise a brow at Pansy’s disdainful tone. “I wasn’t aware that who I paid attention to was any of your concern.”
She mumbled something too low for him to hear that caused Blaise, who was sitting next to her, to choke on his drink.
“What was that?” Draco said sharply.
”Nothing. You’re right, of course.”
”That’s what I thought.”
Unbidden, his eyes slid back towards the tinkle of laughter drifting across the din of students.
It wasn’t any concern of hers, at all.

Tumblr media
"Draco, listen we're all worried about you."
"No, last I checked it was just you." Although it was only Theo in a painting it was definitely still Theo. Really the only person I thought close enough to be an equal, but not anymore.
"Theo! *Sigh* Ignore him." Pansy’s eyes were filled with concern; I however avoided eye contact with her, I had not allowed them over for them to begin to lecture me. I shifted in my seat maintaining my calm and cool demeanor as I spoke.
“When have these ideals done me any good?” She seemingly ignored my question as she was bickering with Theo’s painting. Blaise however did look at me not speaking but expressing how he felt with small twitches in his face. I knew he thought himself superior to everyone here and especially muggles but he was still probably the more humble of these three.
“Anyway, I just don’t get it. Why spend time in the muggle world? I know you're trying to better yourself, which I really don’t understand but, why not just say I don’t hate muggles and be on with it.” Pansy’s arms expressed just about as much as her voice as she rambled on. I was getting a bit impatient and started drowning her out. I looked toward the window and watched a few birds flying in little circles. I thought about being a bird until I finally caught her ask, “I mean what do your parents think about this?” Blaise scoffed, placing his hand near his mouth. “Don’t you start. Shouldn’t you be helping me talk him out of this?” Pansy spoke sharply with a twinge of annoyance.
Blaise, seemingly ignoring her tone, spoke with a warmth, “Well I personally don’t agree with what Draco’s doing but I won’t waste my breath on trying to change his mind. And secondly isn’t it obvious what his parents think, if they even know, which I doubt they do. Do they?” He sat up straighter in his chair, if that was even possible, his posture already seemed perfect. I move my eyes toward him, peeling them away from the birds I had been watching fly into the distance.
“No they don’t and it needs to stay that way.” I gave him a stern look which he wasn’t intimidated by but he clearly understood.
“Wouldn’t dream of telling them.”
I had been raised this way by my parents and trying to remove it seemed like a betrayal. They were greatly disappointed when I told them I was going to adopt a more muggle tolerant view, which was hard on me. We just recently got back to having, mostly, normal dinners. I can’t imagine if they knew about me trying to go on an excursion to the muggle world. However, I knew my parents wouldn’t be here forever to loom over me. Which made me more sad than relieved. Pansy continued to suffocate me with reasons to not go but I just ignored her and made it clear I wouldn’t be changing my mind.
“I do believe It’s time for you to leave. My parents will be home soon and they aren’t expecting company for dinner.” Blaise stood up walking toward the door with a small nod of his head as a goodbye. He held the door as Pansy walked out. “Oh, and take him with you.” I stood up pointing toward Theo who rolled his eyes.
“I know you’ll miss me.” He puckered his lips making kissing noises. I sighed as Blaise swiftly grabbed Theo from the chair he had been previously set in and walked through the door disappearing into the hall after Pansy. I closed the door and walked toward the window hoping to catch a glimpse of the birds again. I thought it might take my mind off everything to see a creature so free, unbothered by the constraints of the world around it. I was unable to see them there so I decided to go outside to get a bit of fresh air and see the gardens. The sky reflected my mind: clouded. However, cracks of sunlight were shining through which gave me some hope for myself. I strolled along the cold stone path occasionally stopping and holding a flower in my hand. I however, was not interested in the flowers as I still rapidly searched the sky for the birds. I stayed outside a while longer resting while reading in the large Hazel tree we kept. My mother had insisted on having one in the yard, she enjoyed the scent it produced, as did I. I read until I heard my mother call me inside. It was early evening and the sun was about halfway to setting. My mind was still bothered by all my thoughts and the encroaching feeling of loneliness. Although being with my family helped in one way it worsened it in others.
Dinner as it had been recently was rather quiet, only the sounds of silverware clinking against glass plates. My mother kept eyeing my father clearly trying to send him a hint. She had resorted to pretending to clear her throat before he finally caught on.
“Draco, as you know I will be going to Australia due to the discovery of potentially rare dark artifacts. I know you’ve shown interest in my collection so I am extending an invitation to you.” He finished while making a see-I-can-be-nice face toward mother. I knew this meant she had convinced him to ask me as a way of making amends for their prior disappointed silence. However I would not be accepting this invitation as I needed to get both of my parents out of the manor for a few days.
“Sorry father but I must decline, I have prior arrangements planned.”
“I am disappointed, but I understand. I told you he wouldn’t want to come.” He took a bite of his food as mother gave a small kick to his shin under the table; his eyes squinted at her while she burned holes through him. I tried to keep my eyes on my plate so as to not get sucked into their stare down.
“I have a suggestion, what if you two go?” I place another bite of food in my mouth, hoping to have diffused the tension. My father seemed a bit uncertain but my mothers eyes softened seemingly in love with the idea.
“Well, we’ll need to discuss it.” He looked toward Narcissa.
“I don’t see what’s there to discuss. If he could have gone, why can’t I? It would be the same arrangement, no?”
“Well I mean…”
“It’s settled, I'll come with you.”
“What about Draco?”
“He can take care of himself, and he can always contact me if he needs me.” I nod towards my father in agreement. He seems to want to roll his eyes but refrains only sighing before agreeing. Dinner ended only moments later I quickly excused myself heading to my room to prepare myself for my trip to the muggle world.

Hi, for HP series: 🤣 Has a fic ever made your face hurt from laughing so much?
I enjoy reading your fics and I like that you ship different pairings
Send me an ask!
Hey anon,
first of all, thank you 💛
I have 5 fics that made me hysterically laugh at my phone in public.
1) A Counterpoint to Working Launches by @constitutionalweasleymonarchy [Romione]
"Home for lunch?"
"I'll be the one not wearing trousers."
2) In Which Landon Is Accidentally Observant, and Peters Misses Quidditch for No Good Reason at All by @constitutionalweasleymonarchy [Perciver]
The arguments between Percy Weasley and Oliver Wood are so legendary,
a mere glare is enough to clear out the dormitory.
The problem is, Landon and Peters live here, too.
(A 7th year Perciver from the POV of their dormmates.)
3) Nothing Ever Lasts Forever by hull1984 [Dron]
Ron and Harry meet during their exchange year at an American University. Ron isn't having much fun until he meets Viktor at a party. Things pretty much go down hill from there.
4) Crush Contiguous by @glamourtentia [Blairon]
When Ron gets asked out by Blaise Zabini, of all people, he says no. And then he says yes. It becomes a pattern.
5) How to Succeed in Dark Wizardry (Without Really Trying) by technically_direct
Ron maybe accidentally-on-purpose becomes a dark wizard, and everything changes.

HIS LOSS, MY WIN

PREAMBLE
DRACO’S POV
I've known y/n since we were toddlers. Coming from respectable pureblood families, we often found ourselves attending various dinners, balls, and fancy events together. That's how we became friends. I made it my mission to annoy her more than anyone else, just to catch her attention. I can still vividly recall the moment she laughed at my teasing and tried to come back at me with her own clever retort, her eyes sparkling with amusement reflecting the unspoken bond that was forming between us. Little did I know that those childish exchanges would lay to foundation for feelings that would withstand the test of time. My crush on her has persisted for as long as I can remember.
I've always wanted and tried to be as present as possible for her, especially during her darker times... In turn, she has consistently stood by me, attentively listening and making an effort to understand my unspoken emotions during moments when I struggled to put words on my feelings. She's the only person on earth with whom I feel comfortable enough to reveal my true self and my feelings. Except those I have for her…
Times were perfect when we both entered hogwarts and were sorted into slytherin house. We could spend endless hours together—skipping classes just to chill in the common room, cuddling near the fireplace for hours under the pretense of studying, spending entire nights in each other's dorms talking about our big dreams and how we plan to take over the world. She never missed one of my quidditch matches, cheering me on with unwavering support. My feelings for her only grew wider, and from an innocent crush, I started to become completely obsessed with her.
Although, in fourth year, I admit I started to lose patience. With all the hints I gave her, how could she be so blind? So I tried another method that Blaise advised me, apparently it worked for him and Pansy. So, as he told me to do, I started hitting on other girls who showed interest in me. The plan was to make her jealous, hoping it would trigger her to realize she might have feelings for me beyond friendship, but... she never did. On the contrary, she even seemed to enjoy my hookup stories, I guess. So I took part in this mess and tried to move on with anyone I could find…
Later, she started dating that bloody Diggory. I tried my best to warn her that this guy was just a fucking idiot, but she thought I was trying to sabotage her. To be honest, that's exactly what I was trying to do, but it was for her own good. I could have guessed how it would end up for them... Anyway, I thought that I had moved on and that maybe we could finally have a real platonic friendship since she was with someone else. But watching her laugh at his jokes, gaze at him like he was putting the stars in the sky, cheer for him at our quidditch matches, or hold his hand when it should have been mine—it was stronger than me. I had to distance myself from her, otherwise, I would’ve completely lost it and decked the guy. It tore me apart to do so, and she probably thought I'm just an asshole for ignoring her, but I had no choice. When I saw her give up on us, it hurt me badly, but she was happy, so that's all that mattered, right?

Y/N POV
I've known Draco Malfoy since we were in diapers. Being an Avery, from a long line of respected wizards, our families have been intertwined for generations. We attended plenty banquets, dinners, and parties together, fostering a beautiful and strong friendship.
Over time, he became the closest friends i've ever had. He was incredibly supportive and comforting when my dear mother tragically passed away. On my part, I was well aware of everything regarding his father's strictness and the type of abuse he might have endured. I've witnessed him in all his states and moods, and I believe nobody, not even himself, knows him better than I do.
Our entrance to hogwarts only brought us closer, as we were both sorted into slytherin. I may started developing a huge crush on Draco in the third year, and it persisted until the fifth year. However, I tried my best to resign myself because it was clear he only saw me as a friend—a very close friend, maybe even a sister—but nothing more. We were used to being inseparable and close, like very close. People often thought that we were secretly dating. I wouldn’t have minded it, but he never made a move in this direction, so I just kept patiently waiting. Despite leaving him subtle hints of my feelings, it felt like whispering to a deaf ear.
With time, I attempted to move on for my own sake, though not without a little assistance. I wasn't actively seeking a relationship, as my thoughts remained focused on Draco. Eventually, I crossed paths with someone who genuinely appreciated me for who I am, showing interest in me and only me. After multiple dates in Hogsmeade and long-night talks in the botanical greenhouse, I decided to give Cedric Diggory a chance. While this relationship may not have had Draco's approval, I assumed it was because Cedric was in hufflepuff and also not from a pure lineage of wizards like we were. Nevertheless, it didn't matter to me, Cedric was kind, understanding, and I loved him, assuming he loved me too.
As Cedric and I began spending more time together, I distanced myself slightly from Draco. Just a bit, but it was necessary, given the longstanding feelings I had for him. For the sake of my new relationship's health, I needed to return to a normal, platonic friendship with Draco. I still attempted to hang out with him after class in the slytherin common room or for study sessions at the library. But weeks after weeks and negative answers after negative answers, I began to realize that he was simply ignoring me on purpose, even avoiding me. Unfortunately, with the stubbornness known to slytherins, I never run after him. We became mere acquaintances, exchanging casual greetings like « What’s up, Malfoy? » when I spotted him in the common room, to which he'd reply « Y’good, Avery? ». That was the extent of our interactions in a whole week—no more chuckles at his silly jokes or pranks, no more cuddles on the common room sofa, and no more dances at the Malfoy's ball. Even though I occasionally caught him staring at me during classes, he always averted his gaze when I noticed.

NOW
You hurried through the dimly lit corridors of hogwarts, your heart pounding in your chest, each step echoing with your distress. Sobbing uncontrollably, tears streamed down your cheeks, blurring your vision as you desperately rubbed your eyes, trying to erase the haunting image burned into your mind.
•••
A few hours ago, even though it was way past curfew, sleep eluded you and you couldn't shake off your restlessness. Tired of tossing and turning in bed, you decided to stop fighting your insomnia. You quickly penned a message to your boyfriend and sent it off with your owl: « Meet me at the astronomy tower. Love, y/n. »
As you made your way through the slytherin corridor, you couldn’t ignore the sounds of a woman’s moans emanating from Draco’s dorm as you passed by. Rolling your eyes in annoyance, you realized that Draco may have found himself new company for the evening, a revelation that left you feeling a mixture of frustration and disappointment. Nevertheless, you cleared your mind and navigated from the dungeon to the astronomy tower. As you ascended the stairs of the tower, your heart sank when you discovered your boyfriend was already there. However, he wasn't alone. You watched in disbelief as he embraced Cho Chang from behind, their gazes fixed upon the stars, exchanging tender kisses on her neck. Frozen in place, you let out a silent gasp. It felt as though your heart shattered into a million pieces, as if the entire sky had come crashing down upon you.
Lost in their own world of love, they didn’t even notice you standing there behind them. Feeling utterly humiliated, you swiftly turned on your heels, unable to bear witnessing any more of their intimate moment. You lacked the strength to confront them in that moment of raw emotion, deciding to save it for when you had regained your composure. Struggling to contain your anger and resisting the urge to hex those mf, you can’t help but fall on tears. During your seemingly endless journey back, you couldn’t help but connect the dots: the sudden change in his behavior towards you, the discomfort evident in his expression whenever his friends referred to you as his « slytherin girlfriend » —something he always seemed uneasy about— and his newfound eagerness to attend ravenclaw parties.
As anger slowly gave way to overwhelming sadness and humiliation, you found yourself passing Draco’s dorm again in the slytherin corridor on your way back to your own. The temptation to knock and fall in tears in the arms of your (ex) best friend was strong. Deciding it wasn't the right time for him as well, and fearing rejection and appearing desperate, you continued walking. But a sudden change of heart made you turn back. Whatever he was doing you needed to see him, even if you weren’t entirely sure why. With a heavy heart, you knocked on the door, sniffling as you called out « Dray, it's me... I didn't know if you are asleep or alo-». Before you could finish your sentence, the door swung open abruptly, revealing Draco standing before you, shirtless. He didn’t even take the time to greeted you, immediately sensing your distress « What's happened? And who did it? » his eyes filled with concern and anger. Tearfully, you admitted « Cedric cheated on me ». His jaw and his fist clenched as he widened the door, inviting you inside. Stepping into his fancy and perfectly tidy room, Draco offered surprisingly calm « Do you want me to hurt him? Say one word, and I'll break his fucking nose with my bare hands » standing right in front of you. Despite your pain, you couldn’t help but chuckle softly « No, that's not why I came here ». Confused, he asked, furrowing his eyebrows « So, why did you came here? ».
You replied with confusion « Actually, nothing… I just wanted your company, I guess ». Draco remained silent, his gaze fixed on you as you pondered the situation « But, you know what, that’s stupid. Forget about it… » you trailed off, already turning to leave. Draco quickly grabbed one of your wrists, his voice barely above a whisper « You knocked on the right door, darling » He guided you to the bed and settled against the headboard. « Come here » he said softly, patting the space beside him, one arm open, a clear invitation to cuddle. You joined him, feeling utterly miserable and convinced he must pity you. However, Draco felt nothing but pity. Pity wasn’t something he often felt. Right now he feels anger primarily directed at Cedric, a slight frustration towards you for not heeding his many warnings that « Cedric is a dick », a layer of guilt and regrets for not admitting his feelings earlier, that might have spared you this pain, and sadness because he knew you felt it too. But never pity.
You leaned into him, seeking comfort in his strong embrace as he wrapped his arms around you, creating a safe haven. « He never deserved you » he whispered softly, not to confort you but because he genuinely meant it. Chuckling lightly, you admitted « You might be right… whatever, losing him isn’t what’s tearing me apart right now ». Draco raised an eyebrow in curiosity « What then? ». You sat up on one elbow and meet his gaze « It’s the fact that he cheated and moved on to someone else like she’s some upgrade. And now she’ll think it too. I’ll have to see her smug face every day at school, knowing she thinks she’s got something more than me. » Draco’s eyes widened in disbelief, a scoff escaping his lips « So, you’re telling me you’re not upset about losing him, but because your ego’s been bruised? That’s some next-level stuff » he remarked, a hint of amusement in his voice. You couldn’t help but laugh at his straightforward take « Yeah, it does sound a bit self-centered, doesn’t it? Maybe I didn’t love him as much as I thought… It’s his loss, anyway. » you declared with newfound confidence. He grinned at your words, knowing that if it was Cedric’s loss, it was undoubtedly Draco’s gain.
You resign yourself to the realization that Cedric and you weren’t a real match. How could you be, when just being near Draco makes you almost forget the entire cheating affair? And then there’s the way your heart races when he gently caresses your arm to comfort you. You used to believe your relationship with Cedric worked because you were distanced from Draco. But deep down, you always knew that Cedric would never be Draco… And now, you feel a sense of guilt and sadness, questioning whether your heart will forever belong to him, even if he didn’t want it back… Little did you know, he wants it more than anything in the universe.
Only a few seconds passed before he retorted, his touch gentle as he brushed your hair back « She’ll never be half of you, it’s indeed his loss » he said softly, pausing to take a deep breath as you closed your eyes and started to relax in the arms of your bestfriend, relieved that your friendship remained intact. « I would have treated you so much better than he could’ve ever » he mumbles in a sigh, but loud enough for you to heard it.
Unbeknownst to you, Draco’s heart raced almost as fast as yours. Internally, he berated himself for letting his true feelings slip. You couldn’t believe you heard him correctly. « Wha-what did you just say? » you stammered, your eyes widening in surprise. Draco looked at you for a moment before closing himself like an oyster « Nothing » his demeanor turning cold as he avoided your gaze. But you refused to let it slide, too shaken by his confession to simply move on « No, Dray, did you just insinuate… » you trailed off, needing an explanation. « You heard me right. I insinuated that I could be a way better boyfriend for you than that fucking wimp » his tone almost bitter, though you were too preoccupied to pay much attention to it. You knew Draco well enough to recognize his defense mechanism—he got angry when he felt vulnerable. « What do you want to mean by that? » narrowing your eyebrows in confusion. « It’s not the proper time or place to talk about it. Just forget it » He replied harshly, waving his hand dismissively. But you weren’t about to let him off the hook so easily « No no, you’re not going to brush this off like you usually do. Answer me, please. » it was more an order than a demand, if you haven’t add the “please”.
He gazed deeply into your eyes, as if he wanted to peer into your soul. There was a moment of profound silence that stretched on for what felt like an eternity, until he finally clenched his jaw, took a deep breath, and began to speak. « It’s fucking clear as day, y/n. » he started, his voice tinged with frustration « I’ve had bloody feelings for you for years. Everyone obviously saw it except you! ». Your jaw dropped at his revelation, your hands trembling and you feel yourself sweating. « Saw what? You never mentioned anything about it…» you managed to say, your voice barely above a whisper. He clenched his jaw again, clearly irritated by the situation—not by you, but by the prospect of voicing his feelings aloud, the uncertainty of potentially losing you after this confession, and above all, the discomfort of facing vulnerability, a feeling he despised.
« Well, they saw the way I complimented you every time I saw you... the way I am so fucking protective over you... the way I always wanted to be around you and spent time with you... » he paused, his voice softening as he leaned in closer « the fucking way I look at you.. does that help you understand this better? » You froze for a moment, unable to comprehend the gravity of his words. The earlier events with Cedric and his new girl seemed like a distant memory now. It took you a good minute to process what you had just heard, during which time Draco was the most nervous he had ever been, anxiously awaiting your reaction.
Suddenly, you buried your head in your hands, loudly exclaiming to yourself « I’m so fucking stupid! ». Draco couldn’t quite comprehend your reaction, but he couldn’t bear to see you overwhelmed like this. Instantly, he was overcome with a too familiar feeling: guilt. He couldn’t shake the thought that his sudden admission of feelings had caused you such distress that you didn’t even want to look at him anymore. Leaning closer, he enveloped you in his arms, his hand rubbing your back soothingly as he asked with a worried voice « What’s wrong darlin’? Talk to me ». You raise your head to meet his gaze, the distance between your faces now mere inches. Unsure of how to express yourself, you finally admitted « I didn’t know where to start… but I kinda feel the same way about you… for awhile now…». At that moment, Draco couldn’t discern if it was a bloody prank of you or a genuine revelation, but he didn’t want to dwell on it. All he knew was that he had been waiting to hear those words from you for ages, losing his mind by imagining it during his sleepless nights, and now it was finally happening. He couldn’t help but grin like an idiot. With one finger, he gently lifted your chin and leans closer to you, not uttering a word, stopping himself less than a inch from your lips, a silent invitation awaiting your consent. Your body erupted in a flurry of sensations like a fireworks, your brain struggling to work properly due to the proximity to him, the intoxicating scent of his cologne which overwhelms you and the warmth of his minty breath on your lips. Yet, despite the chaos in your mind, you managed to understand his silent request and responded with a subtle nod.
Without wasting a single moment, he pulled you into a soft yet hunger-filled kiss. One hand gently rests at the back of your neck, deepening the embrace, while the other tenderly leans on your waist. Your wrists found their place on his shoulder, keeping him close. Your lips moved in perfect sync for a few seconds, as if they were made for each others. Neither of you wanted to break the kiss, savoring every moment of the electrifying connection between you. As he leaned back onto the bed, still kissing you, you found yourself almost hovering over him, lost in the intensity of the moment. When you were finally forced to pull away to catch your breath, he gazed at every feature of your face for a few precious seconds before breathlessly murmuring « Be mine, darling » You met his gaze with eyes sparkling with affection and whispered in return « I’ve always been yours, Draco ».

Enemies- Y/N x ???
Y/N POV:
There I was again. Backed in a corner. Tears down my face. Mascara no longer where it was placed, and bruises on my body.
The golden trio was know for being 'innocent' and 'well behaved', unless they were with me. I was like the magnet that automatically flipped a switch. One that makes people who are kind and sweet, to people who push and fight. People who break your nose.
But today, it wasn't only the trio hitting me. All of the Gryffindors teamed up against me. Only Percy Weasley and Oliver Wood weren't there. They never took a liking to me, but they were never mean.
"What a sorry excuse for a witch," Harry said, while kicking me in the stomach.
"And she was sorted into Slytherin, ha! It's like she wanted to be hated," Ron said to Harry. He lifted me up by my collar and punched me in the nose.
Ron threw me back on the ground and all of the other Gryffindors took their turn at beating me up. I was taking the blows fairly well, until Harry came back.
He kicked me in the face. My head hit the wall, and Harry kicked me in the stomach again. They finally started walking away. I just sat there, waiting as if someone were to come rescue me.
Draco POV:
I was sitting in the great hall when I noticed only two Gryffindors were seated at the table. Weasley and Wood. All of the professors were in a meeting, so none of them would have noticed that one forth of the students were missing.
I looked over to Blaise, but he was kissing Pansy. I looked over to Mattheo, and he was looking at the doors of the great hall. He was biting his fingers like he did when he was nervous.
"Riddle, who are you looking for?" I asked. He looked over to me and pointed to the seat next to him.
"Y/N is always here next to me at dinner, no matter what. She isn't here and I am worried," He said. I looked at the seat in which she normally sat, and it was in fact empty.
"I'm sure she's fine. She is probably just studying," I said. He turned to look back at the doors and I continued eating.
Shortly after, I saw Harry and the other Gryffindors come into the great hall. Some of them had blood on their hands and others not, but the all were super happy.
"What are they so happy about? We won the quidditch match," Mattheo asked.
"Dunno, I didn't ask 'em," I said while giving him a smile. That's when I saw it. A face and body bloodied Y/N running towards the unused girl's lavatory.
Y/N POV:
Once the Gryffindors finally left, I got up at ran to the lavatory. The one no one uses, that Moaning Myrtle lives in. I knew that if there was one place that no one would be, that would be Moaning Myrtle's lavatory.
I ran in and looked in the mirror. I looked like crap. My face was all beat up, and my robes along with my uniform were torn and ruined. I tried to tear a peice of my robe to wipe my face with, but it was no use. I was too weak.
I heard weeping coming from one of the stalls. 'Maybe Myrtle would have a rag' I thought. I looked in the mirror again to see Draco and Mattheo behind me. My eyes were still unfocused from the beatings, so I didn't recognize who they were.
I dropped myself to the floor and scooted under the sink before saying, "Please don't hit me," with a shaky voice. They made their way closer to me and sat down.
"We would never hurt you, Y/N," Draco said. Mattheo went to wrap his arm around me and I jumped.
"That's it, stay here with her, Draco," He said while standing up quickly. I jumped at the sudden movement and tears escaped my eyes again. Draco held my hand and wrapped his arm around me. I jumped, but he didn't move. I scooted closer to him and cried into his shoulder.
"You are the only Potter I like," Draco said with a smile. I laughed a little, but then it hurt extremely bad. I stopped laughing and just sat snuggled into Draco.
Mattheo POV:
I walked out of Myrtle's bathroom and straight to the library. I saw a Gryffindor first year, and walked up to him.
"Get me into your common room. If you don't, you will end up worse than Y/N," I said pointing my wand at him. He agreed and led me to the fat lady painting.
He let me into the common room and the Grffindors were partying. They had a banner that read "Y/N Beat Up Victory". It was obvious that a first year came up with the name. I got many looks from them, but they never questioned.
I scanned the room and finally found Harry with his stupid friends talking about Y/N. This lit a fire in me. I walked over to the twat and punched him in the face. He fell to the ground and I punched his face repeatedly. Eventually Weasley and Granger pulled me off and kicked me out of the room.
Draco POV:
I held onto Y/N like my life depended on it. She wouldn't stop crying no matter how hard I tried. I tried to figure out what Mattheo could be doing.
- Tell Dumbledore, too logical
- Kill them, too psychopathic
- Let it be, too Luna Lovegood
As I was thinking I felt Y/N adjust and look up at me.
"What's wrong?" I asked. From the parts of her face that weren't covered in blood and bruises, I could tell she was pale. Her head started falling back and I caught her just before she fell completely. I layed her down carefully.
"Crap," I said. Mattheo finally walked in. His hand was covered in blood and there were splatters of it all over him. He just stopped and looked at Y/N.
"Get a wet rag," I spoke, finally breaking the silence. I watched as Myrtle came over to us and lowered herself to the ground.
"What *hic* happened to her *hic*?" She asked.
"Right now is not a good time to explain. Do you have a rag?" Mattheo said quickly.
"No. I never liked her anyways," Myrtle laughed and went out of the bathroom.
"Great, now what are we going to do?" Draco asked.
Cedric POV:
I was walking to the common room when I decided to take a shortcut. I walked toward Myrtle's lavatory when I saw Mattheo frantically running out.
"Can you help me? It's Y/N," he asked.
"Uh, sure. What happened?" I asked. Instead of answering my question, he pulled me into the lavatory. I saw Y/N on the ground covered in blood and bruises. Draco was running around the bathroom looking for something.
"Did you find a rag?" Mattheo asked Draco.
"DOES IT LOOK LIKE I FOUND A BLOODY RAG MATTHEO?!" he yelled. I walked over to Y/N. I always kept a handkerchief in my robes. I pulled it out and walked over to the sink to wet it. I walked back to Y/N and started cleaning off the blood. Her face was littered with bruises and cuts.
I took off her outer robe, folded it up, and set it aside. Since it was cold out, she was wearing multiple layers. I pulled off her grey knitted vest and took off her green tie. I folded them up as well and set them with her robes.
I wiped off any more blood and I heard Draco come up behind me.
"I've noticed you are very close to Y/N. Do have a thing for her?" he asked while sitting down next to her and playing with her hair.
"He does have a strong relationship with the girl, doesn't he?" Mattheo said while sitting next to Draco.
"You are gross," I said.
"Why are we gross?" Draco asked. "It's not like she's your sister or anything," I fell silent.
"No, I am dating Cho. And to date Y/N would be a bad thing to do if I'm already with someone," I said.
"Well, I think you have this under control. We are going to go," Mattheo said, pulling Draco up and leaving.
"Oh, Y/N," I said.
Y/N POV:
I woke up in someone's dorm room. I looked around and knew exactly whose room I was in. It smelled like butterscotch and vanilla. The curtains, chairs, and blankets were all a certain shade of yellow.
"C- Ced?" I called out. I saw him come out of the bathroom.
"Hey Sis," he said
