headcanon that Merle carries around little notecards as a memory aide with scribbled notes and names of spells that he's able to use.

sometimes (oftentimes) he drops some of them which explains why he just does not remember he can cast certain spells fairly often, and sometimes (...oftentimes) Taako and Magnus et al. slip extras into his stack which explains why he occasionally tries to cast spells that he's unable to use

Hahaha Taako waited every morning for 12 years for someone to wake him up by talking loudly or jumping on him, but never experiencing it until he met a fucking weird ass tiny dwarf dude who always woke up wayyy too early and made tea that he completely fucked up with an insane amount of sugar but always also made a cup for Taako that was made like he liked it and then they waited for the giant brickshithouse of a human fighter to eventually shamble out of bed.

And it was peaceful but painful, familiar like an old pair of shoes but they were just a bit too loose to be comfortable something was missing but what what what,,,

I think one of the reasons huntl0w leaves such a bad taste in my mouth is because it really feels like Hunter throwing himself at the first “available” person he has even a semi positive interaction with. Luz is in the middle of a romance arc with Amity by the time of Hunting Palisman, they’ve hooked up by the time he interacts with Amity in Eclipse Lake, and Amity is a lesbian besides, and everyone else he interacts with before Any Sport is too old for him, or too young in King’s case. Then Any Sport comes along and he meets the first character who checks every box of in his age range, no established love interest, not canonically not into men/no established sexuality, and has at least semi positive interactions with him. And, if you believe the minuscule blush in Labyrinth Runners is actually supposed to be romantic, then he’s crushing on her by the next time they meet, despite the implications of limited interactions, like how Willow is nervous/scared around him at first. That’s not normal or healthy!

YEAH, YEAH, YEAH, EXACTLY! YOU GET IT!! HOW does the progression of those interactions read as healthy or romantic at all!?? Everyone was just so desperate to ship Hunter with canon character for some fucking reason that they latched onto the first viable one that he has any type of positive interaction with. Whereas before, there was a lot of "please get this boy some friends" or "please give him a loving family" and now it's just. Give him a girlfriend. That will fix him, right? That's healthy right? I hate it here. I never thought I'd be the person to be crying "can we please stop being allonormative for once?" out here, but here I fucked am. Sometimes it's okay for characters not to canonically end up in relationships! Or be attracted to anyone! Whether it be at all or just anyone canonically in the show! Even Zeno, Hunter's literal VA, said at one point that he would've preferred that they had explored Hunter's attraction to boys instead! While in the human realm! But instead, we got this shit because of hunt//low freaks and shortened show runtime!

And on top of that, like you said, Hunter and Willow's initial interactions are NOT healthy or good! It's Hunter tricking her and trying to kidnap her and her friends! (Buddy I need you to stop kidnapping potential partners on Belos' order- Cat reference) Willow is scared of him and doesn't trust him! Rightfully so!! And then when REAL Willow actually sees him in LR, she STILL doesn't trust him and isn't even trying to stand up for him to Bump and is willing to allow them to do whatever to him until he proves he WAS with Gus beforehand. She doesn't like or trust him! He has to earn that! And if Hunter actually had a crush on her prior to that after asias, THAT'S FUCKING CREEPY.
