Okay I read Gretchen Felker-Martin's Beast World story and it was like...fine lol. Honestly probably the only way to interpret Jason's character in a way that still gives it bite without running into the problem that DC will never let him permanently kill anyone who matters. Idk why some feel so strongly about disliking it?

It, and the fact that Felker-Martin cut her teeth in regular book does make me more optimistic tho. Not like..a whole lot optimistic bc there's a lot of writers who I think are amazing who's Jason stories...are not their finest work...but like having an ongoing heavily featuring Jason that isn't from Lobdell will be so nice for once, so I'm holding out hope for at least that.

I also know that some said that Jason/Helena might be solicit bait but I really feel like given how kinda desperate DC is about Jason being the only "Forever Single" batboy, and that they're probably reluctant to have another robin be LGBT+, that they could be trying to cook something quick. They probably don't want to do previous relationships (so Artemis and Rose are out), viewing them as "failed", but I also feel bad for the Helena fans (esp if this goes poorly), and I dislike that like the worst Nightwing fans are (like with Kory, Roy, Rose, Kyle, Donna, Eddie, Danny....all of them are better associated with a different batboy so it's best to keep it that way) obviously going to use it as a continued permanent mark against him (when really I feel like it would be better to just try to isolate yourself from something like this. Like when I tried to read Nightwing's pre-New52/Rebirth comics and didn't like how he treated his friends, I just stopped reading them and choose to live in blissful ignorance). I know some would go "Oh what about Rena/Isabel" and like....Rena is a deep cut that you would basically have to remake her from scratch (in a climate where civilians support systems and non-previously established civilian love interest are getting phased out/harder to implement in a way that doesn't see them erased) esp given that she wouldn't have seen Jason from since they were kids, and Isabel is tainted by Lobdell. I would prefer Strike/Dana Harlowe but now we're asking comic fans & writers to find a black woman to be both a suitable love interest and character long enough that it becomes cemented and that would be an uphill battle... There could also be a new new women but that still runs into the Rena's problems.

So basically we need good-longterm writing before we fix any of the stuff I just said about the possibility of Jason and love. Which I've been saying for years but alas no one thinks about the logistics of anything they ask for anymore....

I feel like some of the negative, knee-jerk reaction a lot of Batfam stans is that things have gotten so...bad when it comes to Jason...in the terms of a lack of direction (making people more split on what should happen to him) that his current stories just make everyone argue at the slightest hint of failure . And that's before the stories that are just flat out bad (Why does Hush 2 exist? A lesser seen character could have gotten a mini instead of creating a terrible sequel for a terrible storyline about a terrible villain)

Anyways I'm done rambling for now. I have realized that it might take longer then September for us to get a feel on whether his new ongoing might bring new life and a clear, not immediately ignored direction that he's been needing since UTRH, as well as tell us if our worried about Helena are unfounded or not....and September is already so far away.

I'm a little late for WIP Wednesday but I haven't knit since Wednesday so it still counts right?

I have absolutely smashed this underarm portion of the back panel, on row 153/160 (95%!!!). However. My goal for the underarm length is 24 inches. And I'm currently at 22. T-T I will Increase My Total (168 will probably work but I'll report back when I have motivation)

I'm already looking ahead to the upper back portion, which will be about 64 rows based on my gauge. Plus a couple more rows for shoulder shaping.... I'm Actually on row 153 out of 238. 64% finished.

I'm usually a Process Knitter but this is very much a Product Knitter's project. I keep daydreaming about all the lace shawls I could be knitting (but never wear). But the Evil Pink Cardigan.... My precious...

Also, on a completely different hot take of the day (I'm full of those today IG), I am ever so disappointed at mainstream media's take of a "weird girl" being just like, mildly quirky girl who is a bit too ditzy or a bit too loud but is still endearing and funny and popular and all. Save for Toph specifically in the cartoon version of Avatar: the Last Airbender, and Utena and Anthy in Revolutionary Girl Utena, I legit cannot think of another show or movie where the "weird girl" isn't just like, "uwu I'm so cute when I'm being a little dummy/tough" or "hehe sparkledogz funneh memeh rainbow stickers" type of girl. No I am not saying that I don't like these representations, like, Mabel Pines and Star Butterfly and the Sailor Senshi and so on are pretty cool but they're DEEPLY disappointing for me who grew up as a "weird girl" who was anything but endearing and funny and popular, and as a matter of fact was just considered a weirdo and bullied severely for being so weird and offputting to my classmates and beyond. I wish I could see more actually weird girls in media in general, girls who are not endearing in the way they are weird and offputting, who are not just "sparkle sparkle le random" types but who would bite off other people for pissing them off or overstepping their boundaries, who would throw tantrums and scream at others for being overwhelmed or upset, who have actually weird hobbies like insect keeping or bone collection or other things of the sort that would make others feel wigged out by them. I wish to see more weird girls.

*Clears throat* My general thought about GuitarHero is about the same that I have about AdamsApple (LuciferxAdam) - I can dig it. I see merits to either side of the conversation and I do generally like Adam as a character (although I will say I do LOVE the idea of Michael just flexing on Lucifer about getting to fuck Adam first, that shit is hilarious). Having said that, my overall interpretation for Hazbin Hotel ships is eschewed by the fact that I understand the odds of HolyApple (MichaelxLucifer) is unlikely so really, I'm happy to read good content that comes my way in either direction. For example, @sir-tater-of-the-tot makes some damn good AdamsApple content that I enjoy even if it's not my default ship.

In the end, I keep an open mind towards most m/m ships in Hazbin that I think nails each character's core dynamic. I've read Valentine/Vox, I've read Alastor/Vox, fuck it, I've seen some real good comics about Alastor/Lucifer in the mix! Really, I'll sate my Hazbin appetite on anything until Vizi drops me some Goddamn Michael content because I'm dying for him to make his entrance.

anyways i am feeling kinda brave today so im gonna share a potentially unpopular taylor swift hot take. when i was talking to my friend yesterday about ttpd i realised that i kinda have a similar problem with the anthology as i do with evermore.

like don't get me wrong, both have absolute gems (willow, tolerate it, long story short, gold rush and NBNC from evermore are great and i love the albatross, so high school, the prophecy black dog, manuscript etc) but i think both collections (bc anthology is not an album) suffer because they came out connected to a much superior more cohesive work, and both almost feel like rejects from the body of work that proceeded it.

Another important thing to note abt my oni pmd au is that it takes place abt 60-80 years after pokemon world gravitas fucked everything up for everyone. The vast Vast majority of the pokemon at the time were wiped out by the ensuing storm and those left behind were mostly those who weren't living in the massive cities that were run by the powerful guilds at the time. Most of the pokemon left behind know very little about what happened, as most of them are a couple generations off from having experienced it themselves, and many of the ones who are old enough to have been there don't know much abt why the things that happened happened, simply that they happened. Also, even though the gravitas guild technically stuck around for about a decade or two afterwards to help with finding survivors and rebuilding to the best they could, due to pretty much all of their previous members dying in the storm and them basically being forced to abandon all of their previous work they changed their name during that period, meaning that most pokemon alive today don't rly think of it as the gravitas guild, or at least not by that name. It eventually was mostly closed down a couple years later as this universe's Jackie became more and more incapable of handling the consequences of her actions, meaning that the only fully functioning guild left in the area by the time our human characters arrive on the scene is an old rival guild of the gravitas guild. Adventuring teams still aren't all that common though, as most pokemon who are affiliated with the guild are shop keepers and suppliers. They also manage adventuring permits, which basically gives a pokemon permission to explore the now uninhabitable lands of the past, usually to scavenge for resources left behind by the old world. Human Jackie and Olivia's only real experience with the guild proper was to get these permits, and they were able to without much trouble, so they had little reason to look more into the guild and any potential other guilds.

Here is a guide to hitting others. It is not about safe impact locations or how to develop picturesque bruising. It is about how to hit someone, and keep hitting someone, until you're both satisfied. It is how I approach hitting masochists for my own pleasure.

The first thing to note is that...

This is going to Hurt.

That fact cannot be shied away from. Pain, even for masochists, hurts. There is a tolerance to how much someone can take, and ways to engage with that tolerance. You will need to learn how each masochist takes pain, and potentially even teach them how to manage and endure it.

So you've got a paddle and a tied up piece of masochistic meat, or perhaps you're using your hand and it's bent over your knee, or perhaps it's cuffed to a cross and you've got a whip, or perhaps you've got a knife or needles or... well by now I've laboured the point enough.

How do you get the most out of your meat?

Start slow. Hit them slowly and rhythmically, building up in intensity every few hits, and when they tense too much or start struggling to breathe or can't stop themselves from making too much noise, slow down again.

Your aim is to warm up the meat so that it can get used to the pain, and once it's used to the pain you can intensify it. Climb up, drop down, and climb back up again. Vary the strike location, but remember that locations you haven't hit as much will need warming up too. The more skilfully it's done, the more you'll get to hit it.

On the subject of their breathing, tension, and noises, you'll want to pay attention to these as you hit them. As you hit them, their breathing will try to get sharp and shallow. Their muscles will try to contract to harden against the impact, and they'll make noises as reactions to your hits. Encourage them to keep their breathing steady and calm, and they'll take the hits better. Encourage them to relax so that the impact dissipates into their flesh instead of getting caught in their tension and you can hit them harder while hurting them less. Listen for moans of pleasure if they're so inclined, and encourage them to verbalise their pain, intentionally responding to pain verbally will help them endure it. Let them calm themselves between your hits, and they'll feel like they can take it and let you push them harder.

Watch how they react, but be aware that you may need to soothe or goad them. Try different things: Hold your off-hand on their shoulder so that they can brace against you. Praise them for each hit you've delivered. Tell them they can take more for you. Tease them. Rub them while they catch their breath and tell them how happy you are with them for taking it. Be verbal, but don't expect responses unless they enjoy responding. Pay attention to what helps them calm.

Once you've got the hang of these things, you can begin to play with them and challenge them: forbid them from making noise. Blindfold them so that they can't prepare for the pain. Make them watch you hit them so that they can't help but tense up in response, and play with false swings to mess with their minds. You can be cruel, because you know how it works. You know which moving parts can be shifted, and which must stay still.

Consider also what your masochist wants from being hit: some do not want to be overwhelmed, they want to be guided and hit into a meditative place where they can dissolve into the pain: intense but never too much, and then you can hit them until they're bloody and raw. Others want their pain to push right up to the edge of too much and stay there until they break. They want to cry and scream, and your challenge is to see how cathartic you can make it: break them too quickly and they might not find it satisfying, and neither will you.

And afterwards, aftercare, and you can work out what that looks like with your masochist yourselves.
