Just for fun, here's the full sketch process on that recent princess piece (the line art was half erased in the rendering process so alas not including that).
For illustrations i generally go Thumbnail -> 3D Model ref layout -> Initial sketch -> Any number of sketch refining (it was only 2 here but i did like 3.5 of the Jamie fashion piece) -> Lineart -> Colouring
I find the thumbnailing stage and modeling stage really helpful as an artist who cant visualize much to really figure out what im trying to do with a concept. And it just fun to go from a rough concept to a full illustration.

Recovering Life
Hey everyone, it's been a while. Around mid-October I announced my getting started on recording. And to be fair, I did get everything set up that day for it. Everything was ready to go, got my N64 controller hooked up to my computer, as Journey Through Loguo is honestly going to be built to be playable on one, although of course supporting controllers made this century!
However, what really caused this new direction in my game development (which, coincidentally, it turns out I made the first post on it in August when this all started I had no idea I was remapping so quickly) is basically life collapse. Since August, things have not been good, and honestly getting worse as it's gone on. My social life basically fell apart in August, and then as time has gone on, deaths in the family, losing my social circle at work, work *incoherent gesturing*, being bedridden for half of a month over the last two, and losing a roommate so like, how do rent?
Throughout February though, and more so now, I've felt I've finally caught a foothold and can actually start doing things again. This month is currently frantic preparation for a new roommate if we find one, but when that calms down, and I have an evening to myself, I am making my video.
I haven't spoken about it much, because honestly I haven't had time, but I have continued to learn more about Godot, mostly idle tinkering as I get ready for work. Have I mastered it? Of course not, it's been... Ugh, 7-ish months of light tinkering. But I in theory know how to do everything I plan to do with Journey Through Loguo presently.
I wanted to throw the concept art I've been doing of our protagonist, Locca, into this announcement. But in addition to the lack of time, I've only been like, halfway into the art headspace at best here, so she's just rough lineart that only kind of shows a vague idea. I'm not going to put any of that out until like, I have a face at least that is more than "outlines of eyes, nose is here, here's a mouth." I was always planning on having her concept art done after the first video anyways, because she's just going to be a little capsule at the beginning as I build the "move through the world" parts of the code first.
So, video hopefully in April, finally. Sorry for my absence, I really appreciate all the support I've received on here over the years.

How long do you typically spend on a drawing? Of the ones you've posted, which took the longest? Which was the quickest?
Hi, thank you for the question!
Short answer: anywhere from 30 minutes to like 12 hours
Long answer;
It really depends. I can whip some cute ones in like 20 minutes, others I draw through multiple days.
Depends on the style and the amount of detail. This is an example of a 30 minutes one:
Tumblr media
Only one character, no background, simple shading. I would say 10 minutes for figuring out the pose I want and sketching it, 10 minutes for lineart (maybe a bit less) and 10 minutes to color and shade it.
When I draw without lineart, with this more messy, paint-esqe style, it's also pretty quick. 10 minutes to sketch, and the rest is basically color and shades at the same time.
Tumblr media
This took me about an hour and a half to make, the shoes and the skateboard being the most difficult parts cause of the shapes, they had to be pretty even even in this style.
When I'm messing around with different styles or techniques, it often takes longer due to trying to figure out what I want certain aspects of the drawing to look like. For those two, the first took me close to 3 hours despite it being pretty simple - I was experimenting with drawing fire and I spend a solid chunk of time on just redrawing it over and over again. The other one was my first time drawing with different brushes and it took me an embarassingly long time to learn how to keep it under control. I would say it took like 6 hours to finish it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The drawings I spend most time on are those with proper backgrounds. I like to draw the backgrounds separate from the characters, so it means I make the whole background even when it's mostly covered by characters later, like this drawing:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can kinda see what I'm talking bout here!
I drew that over a few days, so I don't really know how long it took.
Those times are for drawings themselves - I sometimes spend even longer on looking up references and poses. Sometimes I want to draw byt don't know why so I just go on different stock image sites and look up random things in hopes of finding inspiration.
I think the pieces that take the most time I never post here, cause they are for my DND campaign and I don't know if anyone would be interested. For example, this is Hattie Lykaia, a tiefling owner of an alchemy store. Coming up with the design for the character and for the space took a lot of te and I had like fourteen aketches before commiting to this version. I would say total time was about 10 hours, I couldn't figure out the colors to save my life.
Tumblr media
The stained glass took forever. I never want to draw stained glass again.
One of the things I enjoy most but never share here is character design! I don't really know what I'm doing most of the time but I love making rough concept sketches, like those:
Tumblr media
Despite being messy and all, they take a long time! Looking up things, figuring out the shapes and colors... Me and my brother watched five movies in a row while I was making this ones. So yeah, despite the drawing itself being quick and messy, the whole process takes me a while. But it's really, really fun.
Thank you again for asking! I hope this wasn't too long or too boring but I just really love talking about my drawings and the process behind them. My irl friends have to deal with me showing them every stage and they're probably sick of it lol. Good thing they're really nice and will always pat my head and tel me I did a good job anyway

Applying tutorials to Your Work
Hi! I've got a lot of things cooking back in my studio, but since it's a Wednesday I thought I'd share some helpful-ish advice that I've gained since being an artist since like, middle school.
Tutorials are awesome bits of knowledge! But something I rarely see get addressed is how to add it to your own workflow.
Artist all work differently, so usually after I see a tutorial I make a big canvas by dragging in MS Paint (If you can, some tutorials only work in the program of choice) and start following the tutorial.
For example, I love manga screen tones. I've seen so many tutorials on how to do them in CSP & Paint Tool SAI. Ergo, I wanted to apply this knowledge to my current artwork. I open a huge canvas in CSP. Download the brushes/materials I need and try them out on some line-art I scanned in.
This is how it looked before. I did my usual Black & White trad. inks for lineart and added turn white to opacity feature on.
Tumblr media
After following the tutorials as close as possible, here's how it ended up looking.
Tumblr media
Because my style is more cartoony/simplistic with cell-shading I applied my grayscale then converted this into screen-tones using a layer feature in CSP.
Now, what if a tutorial doesn't apply well to your particular flow/ style choices? Take what else you've learned from the tutorial & apply it using your established methods.
I didn't use gradients because it looked to different from my usual line art. I didn't use special brushes because it looked too precise. It's okay to fiddle with the key points of the tutorial until you find a good fit.
I like to think of it like class notes - You get the key concepts first. Then, you turn around and apply it through trial and error.
Note that if you haven't found a workflow that you like that it's time to apply the tutorials in high gear.
Half of my art journey was finding what I liked as far as rendering drawings. Do I like cell-shaded work? Do I like realism or more graphic-styled cartoons? Do I like bright colors or muted colors? Etc.
Happy Drawing! :D

War… Hold up, do we really need a warning for this one? Dunno, but however, watch out for slightly disturbing and kinda…disgusting imagery, trypophobic patterns, as well as ‘necrotic’ (and dark themed) designs I made while having funky fever bc o h m y g o d do I get a little crazier every new quarantine day (and at this point it’s coming to be an usual thing for me, big sad). However, most are made no other than for the sole sake of satire, so y’know, no need to get your underwear in a twist
Tumblr media
Friday Night Funkin’ BoyFriend’s Hood – AU fanconcept sketches [XX]
EDIT 16/11/2023: Updated the drawing with a rescanned, more clean version
1.- Miss Luzbell
Daddy Dearest’s ex-wife in BF’sH, as well as Stephano and Bruce’s biological mother
If y’all couldn’t tell my burning passion for making strange, very detailed character designs, this shall b enough to convince you about it
She’s supposed to be a goth gospel singer by the way…and she’s a gargoyle
Her design, however, was real fun to make, especially her moon scythe (just noticed afterwards that I snuck a low-key Zardy reference, woo)
2.- Bruce
Stephano’s brother, and GF’s half-brother
And when I say ‘obscure’, I’m not saying he’s the edgiest of all characters (after his mom of course), but that he’s the least lore-wise appearing character; technically I just did his design out of spite lol
However, unlike his mild brother, he has no ill feelings against GF; heck, he himself knows their mother was the one that peaced out with no care and just left them at their luck with their dad…he still messes around with GF every so and then though.
3.- Shape!BoyFriend/Major B (BlueFriend) and Shape!Lil B/Minor B (Light BlueFriend)
Funny rhythm game mashup go bzzz
Beyond this point all I did was filler stuff…just for fun c:
Used the symbol on BF’s jacket for this one, both for the big and the small boi
Light BluF do be looking cute tho
4.- Shape!Stephano (Octephano)
Close to me but the Godfather walked in
Way to say Stephano’s design was indirectly/slightly inspired in my AU fandesign of Cube, don’tcha think-
5.- Shape!GirlFriend/High G (PinkFriend) and Shape!Miss G/Low G (Light PinkFriend)
Demon hoe and demon child
Before you ask, I went with my fancanon for this one (pink shapes can be with paradise shapes as long as they’re ‘purified’ with any light-source magic –aka triangles), hence why she’s wearing a triangle –BluF also has one by the way, basically it’s his mic
6.- Shape!Pico (HexaPico)
go pico ye ye
Idk what colour he’d be exactly, maybe a mix between orange and green (orange being the predominant color since y’know)
Also his hands can shapeshift into guns as long as he has the weapons’ config stored in his database (in this case, his right arm being the assault rifle, and the left one being his uzi)
7.- Nostalgic BoyFriend
Sad boi
Basically happening after the GF-got-stolen event
8.- Simplified Style! Stephano
This is a FNF ‘artstyle’ concept I though of not too long that’s basically like combining but bad with Minus and taking away all color paletes, having the lineart to be the only colorful part of the sprite (mostly being the color of the icon the character has)
Also, finally got to draw his revolver thing, even if it was low-key
9.- Heart thing…?
Was meant to be Stephano’s signature symbol or something, but I don’t know at this point
10.- Simplified Style! BoyFriend
Back at it again with the simplifications
And yeah in my interpretation, simplify!BF has a transparent cap, don’t ask
11.- Blood Moon
Random sketch
Looks like a fusion between Whore of Babylon and Spirit of the Night (TBOI) but that might be just me
12.- Shape!Arzeus (TriArzeus)
Inverted triangle bad
I can’t help but think that, in order to possess Broddy, he would have had to do it blixer style (headstab)

How it Works:
After I get your message I’ll respond as soon as possible asking you to describe your commission to the best of your ability- if you can, make sure you note if you’d like bust/half/full body lineart, your color preference, and the other important details about what you’d like.
After that I’ll be able to lead you through any additional questions I need in order to get an idea of how complex it is and I’ll be able to do the math to get a preliminary price out there!
After that’s discussed, I’ll be able to provide you with a series of sketches to choose from and work out adjustments if needed! After a sketch is selected and worked with to get a better concept of what you need, I’ll get started on line art! This usually takes me about a day or two for most pieces. Please note you will need to pay for the commission once I get started on line art! I will not begin drawing line art until I have received the payment for the artwork.
After that, it’s mostly a matter of sending you my progress and asking if anything needs adjustment. Feel free to add anything you want! If you find this would change the price of the artwork, I will be very open to discuss it further with you. I’m always hoping to make something *you* want, so never feel bad for asking me to change something.
Everything’s first come- first serve. I’ll try to inform you of how many people are ahead of you and an estimated time-frame of how long it may take me to get to you and/or complete your project.
Thank you!  Feel free to ask any and all questions that come to mind, and I’ll do my best to answer them! There are no bad questions!
- Further Notes/Disclaimers
I may raise the prices upon further discussion should the piece be particularly complex or challenging enough to increase estimated time spent on the project. It is very unlikely I will increase prices above the high-end bracket stated here for any particular project. It’s why I included the ranges in the first place. I want to make this something that is fair to both your budget and my time, energy, and supplies, I’m very willing to help you figure out how I can make something you want within your budget! Low-end bracket non-negotiable. Any price increase above the high-end bracket would be due to a general pricing increase overall.
If you would like to pull out of any projects you must do so before completion. I will provide you with the initial sketch(es) as soon as I complete it. Please inform me then or beforehand if you no longer wish to commission me! For both your own and my sake!
If you wish to pull out of a colored project, and I’ve already completed line art, I ask that you pay for the line art (same with a project with backgrounds or additional characters)
I ask that you only use these commissions for Personal Use unless you talk to me first! If you would like to use my art/designs for Commercial Purposes, you must get my explicit permission. I sign all artwork! If you don’t wish for it to be signed, or would like it to be signed in a particular place/way, please discuss that with me. It is very likely I will post the complete commission to one of tumblr blogs (and/or possibly other social media accounts/website/portfolio). If you would prefer I didn’t, or did so in a particular way, please discuss that with me! That’s it! If you got though this all, I applaud your determination and appreciate your interest! If you still have questions, again, please ask!

Why people like your doodles better than your finished works
Learn from your doodles rather than resent them
I frequently see artists complain that their finished works got less attention than mere sketches, doodles and other smaller or less serious work. Which is frustrating! But almost as often, I can see exactly why the doodle got more attention. I’m going to cover some of these reasons, so you can use that information so you can do more than fume about it.
The doodle is easy to read, the polished work is busy
Tumblr media
The polished work is completely drenched in little details that the artist slaved over, but the details create a kind of overall noise that makes everything harder to understand, making the whole image less appealing.
Don’t get too lost in little details, work from larger shapes to small details, use things like a highly readable silhouette, contrast, variance in line width or negative space to keep the image understandable. Pay attention to the composition to guide the eye where you want it.
The doodle is high contrast, the polished work is low contrast
Tumblr media
When you do lots of details all equally well lit and easy to see, overall you lose the strong lights and darks that make a work pop. You have to sacrifice some of those details, let them be in shadow or out of focus in the background, to create a more appealing image overall.
You might also be forgetting that without lineart you need to use strong lights and darks, since lineart creates it’s own natural high contrast.
Contrast draws the eye, use that to create focus where you want it.
The doodle is simple to understand, the polished work is highly ambiguous in meaning and message
Many doodles that outstrip the artist’s polished work are jokes. Jokes usually have a specific clear focus and message, the viewer can understand it immediately (if they couldn’t, it wouldn’t be funny). You don’t have to make everything funny, but like a joke, you need to get to the point and give the audience the information they need to “get it.” More details can be present, but the viewer should not be confused about what to look at from the outset. Remember: people will look at and interpret your art in milliseconds. They might give it a longer look but only AFTER that millisecond look.
The initial glance is like the first page of a book. If it wows them they keep looking to understand more, if they are lost and confused, no second chances, they’ve already scrolled away.
You can use things like composition, basic structures of shapes and simple shape symbolism to give viewers the initial information they need to stay interested. Don’t feel like you have to abandon more personal and difficult to parse symbolism, these things can work together to create intrigue.
The doodle is fluid and expressive, the polished work is stiff and dead
Tumblr media
The sketch for your polished work needs to be done with spontaneity and fluidity. When you want to really flex your drawing skills and show the world your beautiful realistic human faces, your sublime anatomy, gorgeous textures - it’s easy to forget about the undersketch and jump to rendering as soon as you can, creating a stiff or boring sketch that isn’t worthy of all the time you’re sinking into the minute details.
Practice quick gestures, read up on line of action, and before you make a polished painting, make sure you have a sketch that’s fun to look at even without the detailed rendering. Thumbnailing helps. Studies too. Sometimes you have to do the bad boring sketch, but you can take a few stabs at it.
You can’t make a bad sketch good by painting more details on it, you need to work out the sketch first before moving to the details.
Remember, if you’re going to spend 20 hours painting the thing, you can afford another half hour sketching a few different takes on your idea before digging in.
Lots of doodles, very few polished works
If you mostly post one kind of thing, your audience will be people who like that. Also, you may not have much practice with the techniques you are using in the polished work, while you have become a pro at doodles. You become an expert at what you practice, do more of what you want to be known for, become an expert at it, make it the only thing your audience is there for.
The audience is familiar with the subject of the doodle, unfamiliar with the subject of the polished work
Many artists do doodles of fanart and get fed up that people like that more, but the truth is, they don’t like it “more” they just already know they like it. You can increase the chances of people appreciating your original works by making sure they can understand what’s going on in the illustration without prior knowledge of who these characters are, or simply sticking to it until you have garnered an audience. Just keep at it.
Remember, the creators of the property you made fanart of are themselves artists who were pushing an original idea at one time. You can follow in their footsteps.
The doodle is quirky and unusual, the polished work is stale and samey
This can happen when an artist has an image in their head of what a SERIOUS and PROFESSIONAL painting looks like, usually based on a very narrow subset of artwork, often itself based on the same cargo cult of seriousness.
Try studying works outside your usual stomping grounds. Look to artists that likely inspired your faves (if you’re talking about realistic artists who inspired your favorite concept artists, here’s some likely culprits to get you started on the google search: JC Leyendecker, Alphonse Mucha, Norman Rockwell, James Gurney, Rembrandt), look to artists outside your genre, and look at your doodles and ask yourself what “not serious, just for fun” source of inspiration is making them so fresh and vibrant that your audience is connecting to them so strongly. Study that, respect that fun and try to pull it into your serious work.
The polished work was hard to make and no one cares
Being an artist is hard, and that we keep at it is commendable, but struggling and taking more hours doesn’t make a piece better necessarily.
There are a few things to consider here. First, you need to realize looking to the vague faceless masses of the internet for a fatherly “I’m proud of you, son” moment is always going to be disappointing and painful and attempting to guilt strangers into fulfilling that role for you is awkward and inappropriate. You need artist friends who can recognize your hard work and cheer you on and you need to be your own cheerleader, value your own hard work and practice.
Second, you need to realize torturing yourself doesn’t in and of itself make art better. Hard work is something people love about art, the meaning of someone spending that time, but if I screamed for 8 hours, drew a single line, then posted that, the internet wouldn’t be wrong to be unexcited about it. Rather than blame the viewer, think about two things: how can you make the art itself more appealing while still doing the painting that you’re interested in doing, and how can you do that faster and with less pointless suffering?
It’s okay to be a masochist when it comes to art, many artists are, just make sure you’re spending your time and suffering wisely.
You’re complaining about someone else’s “doodle”
Sketches and cartoons are deceptively hard to make appealing, rather than fume that they are getting more attention, look to them for lessons. What could you learn from them? Could you do it? Maybe you should try. Would make a good exercise.
And never get mad that their drawings are more appealing to the internet than yours, even though they spent less time on their drawing than you did on yours. See above for why time is not important here, but also keep in mind they may have been practicing longer than you or may be more established than you.
Keep working on your art, keep posting, push to be seen, advertise your work, put yourself out there. These things take time but work.

Hiya dude! Sorry if this ask is annoying, but I was wondering if I could make an oc with a similar quirk to Akane? I was considering making an oc that can control color, but if I do actually end up posting about them, I don't want to make a character that seems like a copycat. :')
Sure thing! I don’t own the concept of that power after all hahaha
Anon said:Will there be any of the KiriBaku kids on your red bubble? :) They’re so cute!! 💕💕
Why not!!! Just gotta draw something with them that’s actually worth uploading first 💕💕
Anon said:Your blog is so.... therapeutic??? I think I went through it at least four times by now. I'm absolutely in love with your drawing style and even better au ideas.
Anon said:akane would be dangerous with red paint bombs
Anon said: Akane could shoot or throw paint balls of red paint or even powder to cover things and villains and since the paint isn't alive she could control it.
Anon said:Pertaining to the question of blood, red blood cells live approximately 120 days. If she kept blood in a tube and waited until the cells are dead, can she control them? Is one of her tools going to be capsules of red dye that she can use to paint her enemies?
!!!!!!!! Many people have mentioned that and it makes me actually super happy because that was something I thought about too, for when she’ll be a hero! The paint should be fast dry though or else she’d end up just moving the paint off the things she threw it on hahaha also about the blood thing, yes she’d be able to control it but, I mean, why would she do that hahaha
Anon said:Do you have any ideas for an older Akane? I image that she would get into UA and that she would have the coolest hero costume! With different shades of red so that she could possibly use it for defense or mobility, and a cloak that could withstand attacks. I LOVE the idea of her having red knives and weapons that she can use for offense hidden under her cloak, probably attached to her pants. OH and also she could have a red chalk pallet on her thigh so she could color things so she could move em
I do have a bunch of ideas!!! But since she’s a kiddo in the AU all ideas don’t really matter all that much yet, so I’m totally up for everyone imagining it however they wish! And I like all of your ideas so so much!!!!!! Thank you for liking my kid enough to think this much about her!!!! 💖💖💖
Anon said:i love your new bakushima parents au thing with akane!!!! it's so freaking adorable!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!
Anon said:What is your sexuality?
I don’t mind saying, but why do you wanna know? :0
Anon said:Do you think if Akane was raised by her biological parents she could be somehow trained to use her quirk on living things? Like her morals and pure heart are what stop her from ever even thinking about doing something like that???? Sorry, idk I just tend to want sufficient angst when it comes to things I like, and I LIVE FOR AKANE!!! She could easily be a top hero and I LOVE to see more of her!! Thank you for creating her!!❤️❤️❤️
I’m gonna have to hold the answer to this question cause it’s actually gonna be the topic of a comic I mean to draw soon-ish >:]c
Anon said:That fire diamond Bakugou and Pearl Kirishima au is everything. Hope we'll get more of it in the future. I'm curious about what happened with kirishima :D
Aw anon, I’m so happy to know you liked those but I don’t think I’ll ever get back on that concept :( posting those ended up with a lot of unpleasant things happening so now they’re tied to unhappy things for me :(( sorry!
Anon said:aww Akane, give him a chance, maybe he can be your 2nd papa ^w^
>:]]]]] s o o n
Anon said:I give her like 5 years and she will like Kiri. Nobody can resist Kiri long.
>:]cccc sooner than that
haha
Anon said:u have only been drawing akane for a while and i 110% support it i love her so much
That!!!!!!! Makes me so happy!!!!!!!!! Thank you!!!!!!!!
Anon said:I'm in love with this new au help
😭😭😭😭😭😭 thank you so much!!!
Anon said:God I am loving this please don't stop with our little red babbbey I wanna know what happens next 💙💙😔👌💙💙
AAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Anon said:I have known Akane for a day now but if something happened to her i would kill everyone in this website and then myself
You guys are gonna make me CRY FOR REAL!!!!!!! so much love thank you so so much!!!
Anon said:The way you draw bakugou is so amazing I can't even,,,z that undercut???? Beautiful. The way his treats little red???? Fantastic.
I’m GLAD you like the concept!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 💗💗💗💗💗💗
Anon said:I'm very sorry to say this but.... What if Bakugo had a quirk that when he says "DIE!" the first thing he sees after saying that explodes. And what he will do with it? Will Kiri still be with him?
...................anon I’m gonna be very honest with you that sounds like the most OP quirk ever omfg does the intensity of the explosion change based on how loud it is? If so it’s such a strong quirk it’s fantastic !!! and I don’t see why Kiri would have a problem with it tbh haha
Anon said:I know this may be weird or personal but, what's your race/where are you from?
I’m Italian! It’s actually written in my faq!!
Anon said:Hi, sorry to bother you but ... Can I please draw Akane, your OC, she is so precious ! I really like your work on her, her design is truly cute ... Obviously if I post it, I will give you credit ... ( Sorry for my broken english, it's not my mother tongue )
YES!!! Thank you so much for wishing to draw her!!!!!!!!!
Anon said:You definitely don't have to stop this au any time soon. I love so it so much :D As always, your art and stories are incredible
Anon said: There is no need to apologize for continuing with this new AU, it's your blog and you can post what you want. Plus, the idea is really cute and your drawings are great! I think any kind of post of any AU is great, so don't worry about it, we're thankful for what you do, no matter the AU
You guyssssss!!!!!!!!!!😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 thank you so much for enabling me!!!
Anon said:I fcking love kirishima's hair in your latest comic, that undercut with vibrant red hair Is everyhting
THANK YOU!! I’m glad you like it since it was entirely self-indulgent hahaha
Anon said:The phone case I bought from you recently arrived and I love it a lot! You're my absolute favorite artist and I check your tumblr everyday to see if you've posted. I was wondering if you'll be connecting Akane with the other krbk kids cause it's really interesting. Plus Ultra!
Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And no, she’s a separate AU! I was actually unsure in the beginning (which is why Baku has the same hair in both aus!) but after I asked it seemed like people would have preferred it to be a separate AU so that’s where it went!
Anon said:Did you start using a different brush for lineart?
If this is about the pencil tool, no! That’s not a lineart tool, it’s just a sketch one :D I use it when I don’t feel up for detailed work and wanna be fast about what I’m making~
Anon said:Did Bakugo adopted Akane or is kinda like a teacher to her?
At the very first he was just a temporary guardian, but after a while everyone grew attached and he decided to adopt her! :D
Anon said:Ah I just had that image in my head of Akane training with her quirk so hard she can style her hair with it like super quick, like, at first she'd do it in secret then call Baku over and show him how she can make it braid itself then just has to tie the end (it's a messy braid but he's so. so proud.) (Btw I don't mean for you to draw this, I just thought it was p sweet :0 )
That’s!!! such a cute image oh my god TT0TT and I actually have half an idea for a comic for something on this line!!! well, vaguely haha maybe soon! 💕💕💕

“I already have the lineart for my next foundling!Jim AU pic finished,...”
p l e a s e i would LOVE to know more
Tumblr media
Okay, so the Foundling AU is, at its core, a self-indulgent AU built around my love for found families. It came from out of no where, like...within 30 minutes of finishing the entire series in 2 days.
The Facts:
Jim is a half-troll, and always has been.
Jim is not Barbara Lake’s biological son.
Jim does not start out as anyone’s son, as far as he can recall, but somehow, he ends up with plenty of parents anyway
How Things Start:
Rather, Barbara first encounters Jim when she pulls into her drive way after a late night studying for boards and nearly hits a...thing...eating her trash can. Not FROM her trash can. The actual trash can. She convinces herself it was some crazy desperate but otherwise perfectly normal animal, and the horns and whatnot were the product of too much caffeine and too little sleep.
She starts leaving her trash can in her garage, and figures hey, problem solved.
Until one night during the start of an ER rotation, when she comes home after a 12-hour shift and forgets to close her garage door.....aaaand okay, maybe forgets to lock the door to her house, too. Arcadia is a small, peaceful place and she’s never had issues in her neighborhood. Sue her.
Of course, little halfling whelps have no real concept of property, and Jim helps himself to a nice, shady space with plenty of food.
A few hours later finds Barbara stumbling upon what is definitely NOT a raccoon, dear god, eating her stethoscope. Which honestly is probably the only thing that keeps her from passing out in shock. Quality stethoscopes are expensive
Somewhere between debating whether to call Animal Control or the Police and trying to shoo Jim out the door, she finds out he can’t be exposed to sunlight. And look, she has no clue what this thing is, but he’s vaguely humanoid and clearly a child and she’s a future doctor. Causing him pain is not an option. So she resolves to let him stay inside for the day, and send him on his way in the evening
This seems to work, as far as she can tell. He isn’t bad company, so long as she makes sure he isn’t eating anything important or expensive. She hardly cooks, so what are a few lost cooking utensils? He spends most of the day sleeping, and seems content enough to leave once the sun goes down. She feels sort of bad, letting what seems to be a child wonder off into the night alone, but, nature’s different, right? Apparently, way different than she had ever known, even.
Until he shows up again a few days later. Then again, and again, until it’s just easier to let him stay.
But What’s He Doing When All Alone?
Wandering Arcadia, running from the scary-bad-big people who try to chase him down, and cementing himself in the collective hearts of all who run across him
Which, in the beginning, is mostly Aaarrrgghh!!! and Blinky.
He is always up for play-fighting and cuddling, and presenting them with things he’s found.
In the end, he always heads back home, though.
The first and only time they tried to take him to Trollmarket unwillingly, he pitched a fit and refused to come near them for days afterward.
Eventually, they decided that the best they can do is keep watch over him, and hopefully get him to trust them enough to finally get him where he belongs.
Where’d He Even Come From?
Jim did not start out as “Jim”. He did not have a name to call his own for quite some time.
The Janus Order work on more projects than trollkind could ever know. Experimental hybrids were one such project, ultimately deemed a failure. Only one whelp survived, and initial results weren’t promising, between weakness to sunlight and a static, decidedly non-human appearance.
An agent was eventually tasked with eliminating it. The Janus Order has always thrived off of subtlety and their ability to blend in, after all. To keep it would be a waste of resources at best, and a risk for eventual exposure at worst.
(There is a difference, though, between agreeing someone’s existence is a risk, and actually acting on eliminating that risk. This difference is what saves Jim’s life.)
(Strickler may not have had the heart to kill the whelp by his own hands, but he figured leaving the child out, exposed to the environment, would do him in all the same.)
(And if part of him hoped that maybe a soft-hearted troll would stumble across the child before the sun began to rise, well, no one need know)
Misc
Strickler probably ends up dating Barbara in this AU when he finds out Jim is still alive and ended up basically adopted by a human woman, in the hopes he can snatch Jim back and get rid of him before the Janus Order realizes he showed mercy at the expense of the Order
It is hard to try teaching a child letters when he keeps eating all of the supplies you are trying to teach him with, but Barbara tries her best. And goes through a lot of magnetic letters to do so.
At some point, Vendel finds out about Jim. He isn’t heartless, and would never condemn a whelp to death, but as far as he is concerned the worlds are kept apart for good reason, and the child has no place among humans. He tasks the Trollhunter with bringing the child to Trollmarket, where he belongs.
Kanjigar assumes this will be easy. It is not.
still debating on whether or not Jim is outright taken, or if Barbara is eventually convinced that giving him up is for the best. She is only human, and Jim is something decidedly not.
The first time Jim speaks is when he is being taken away from Barbara. For many children, their first instinct when endangered is to call out for their parents, after all.
Ultimately this is a feel good AU though, so!! This is not permanent!! Jim is reunited with his mom and Barbara gets to continue raising her beautiful boy with the help of his many troll dads and relatives. They come and visit through that tunnel his brother Draal dug in Barbara’s basement.
All of this is open to change as I think of things, or heck, if you wanna play around with it, as you do too. There is never enough fluffy baby content, as far as I’m concerned. Feel free to make suggestions or comments, or ask questions.

You watch the scene pass by you. A once daunting sunset is now a beautiful sunrise. The ship passes above you, feeling almost like a huge whale in the sky.. The pods start to rumble, struggling to find a good landing spot. It gives a warning, saying something along the lines of "Potentially rough landing imminent. Please tighten your safety buckles. The pods land, and thankfully everything was safe. And everyone was together. You all exit the pods, and stare off. The ship is the only thing blocking your view.

“Y-you're the only thing r-really keeping me going..."
"I... I don't want... I can't lose you... I-I love you... Please don't leave me alone..."
Tears stained his face. His stomach contorted violently, twisting and turning, anxiety flooding his being. Was this the end? Was it a new beginning? It didn’t matter to him. Not now. In time, maybe. But now? Now all he felt was despair, sadness… anger…
He’d need time. Time to recover, time to compose himself, time to… move on? could he move on? Would he ever? He didn’t know. He wouldn’t know for a while.
...Chiyo dedicated her life to saving this earth… this broken, distorted earth… Broken and distorted… just like him… He wouldn’t recover quickly, and it was almost certain the wounds he’d received would never fully heal… but… when the pain eased… he would do everything he could to realize her dream. He couldn’t let her efforts be for nought. He’d fix this broken planet, piece by piece… And when it was all over? He’d maintain it... do his best to bring peace to everyone… And then he’d see Chiyo again… He’d tell her he loved her… And they could be together.
All that would come… He’d make sure it did… But, for now, he just grieved.

"...." Everyone was being emotionally wrecked, and here he was, not emotionally wrecked. He really was different, it seemed. Even though everything was both a lie and a truth.
How.... Strange.
He walked over to Leon, sliding his hand into the Dollmaker's own. Calluses... Not from fighting, it seemed. But these were the same hands that had supported him on the ship, even though he had lied again and again, and made questionable decisions one after another.
... This, at least, was real. Even if he couldn't trust anything else, he could trust at least this -- them.

Leon blinks and glances down to see Dmitri holding his hand in his, staring out at the wreckage from where they had been mere minutes ago. He parts his lips to say something, though he can't find the words. He had trusted Dmitri, trusted his judgement, and it had all worked out. Maybe not as smoothly as they had all hoped, but they're here. They're here and alive.
With no words to say, his lips slide shut along with his eyelashes. He presses a kiss to his forehead. Hopefully that will express his feelings well enough. He had always found it strange how emotions could be expressed so easily for him through touch. He wanted to convey his affection, his relief, but most of all? His hope for the future.
The end of one story is the beginning of another, and he sincerely hopes they can turn this bittersweet moment into something beautiful. After a few moments, he pulls away and turns his head to look back at the horizon. Not at the airship, but beyond. To the trees and skyline, the chittering birds overhead. It would be up to them to maintain this beautiful world, and he can't say he's too ready for it, unknowing of what that may entail , but he finds himself eager to begin.

‘What do we do now?’
"..." Runa... leans her head on Seojun's shoulder, she watches the light of the sun through the filter of the smoke. "...Who's to say... maybe find other people, rehabilitate back into the world's current society... I just," She lifts her head, "I just want to stay close to everyone for the time being..."

Fina stared at the scene in front of her. It was all so intense. So surreal. They made it out. All the people they lost. All the truths they gained. It all came to her in a wave of emotions. So much was going through her head right now. She sat down on the ground and let out a long sigh. "Oh fuck... We actually did it. We made it."
S e o j u n   T s o i
Fifty days.  They were trapped for fifty days on the airship known as the Queen Rose, with the conditions of being involved in a horrendous killing game.  Blood, sweat, and tears were shed almost every single day.  There was an atrocious amount of despondency throughout the entire “trip” they had gone through together.  As the blaring alarms were ringing in his head even now, Seojun found himself recollecting everything that had happened for him.  Not just in those fifty days, no.  What happened overall in the seventy six days that he had been trapped in his two killing games. What had happened in the past two and a half months for him was an absolute nightmare.
Day one. He woke up in the anteroom with seventeen students other than himself, and he found himself forced into a killing game under the treacherous duo of Gekumi and Torimi.  From the first week in, he found something that was quite odd:  Gekumi seemed to take more of the hate, but Torimi seemed to take more of the power instead.  It was something that the supposed Internet Troll had found to be quite the oddity.  Weren’t they working together?  He didn’t say anything about it, however.  He had to keep himself together.  He had to. Everyone around him was panicking like wild animals, so he couldn’t be seen doing the same.  He had to be that one guiding light to everyone.
Day six. That’s when he witnessed his first execution.  Karou was torn apart viciously, and Seojun had to see their demise firsthand.  It was absolutely dreadful, but he had to keep going.  And so, he did.  The second murder passed, as did the second execution.  He would soon find out about his loved ones being captive, about Ae-Joung being captive.  Seojun initially freaked out; he had freaked out when he saw his “sister” inside those bondages of rope, and the blindfold over her eyes.  She was scared of the dark, and in a way, so was he.  He was afraid of the darkness surrounding him, but he had to stay strong, and keep smiling.  He had to be that one guiding light to Ayaka.
Ayaka.
”C’mon, Junie!  Think positive.  Things are going to be okay, alright?  Trust me, I promise.”
She seemed to be just like his sister.  His sister, who had saved his life from his own hands.  The sixteen year old girl wasn’t one he fell in love with, but she was someone that he had grown to wanting to protect.  He had wanted to protect her, because someone just like her had done the same for him.  At least, that’s what he remembered.  The girl was innocent, and he wanted to protect someone that felt like a sister to him.  She was so, so devastated when Karou died.  When Karou was the one who had taken the knife, and stabbed Varian in the back.  She was so devastated, and the girl with the round glasses had went to Seojun for comfort.  Seojun ended up doing the worst thing imaginable though, and he witnessed Antonio killing another poor, innocent girl named Hitomi Kurusaki.  Instead of dying himself, he took it upon his own hands to strike...and he killed the man.
Day twenty six.  That’s when the trial of Antonio de Sabatini and Hitomi Kurusaki occured.  That’s when everyone managed to pin it on Raphael Bernard, the Super High School Level Archer.  That’s when everyone managed to get it wrong, and vote for the wrong person.  That’s when Seojun Tsoi had managed to get away with murder, much to his dismay.  He...He didn’t want to see Ayaka with that look of betrayal on her face.  He didn’t want to see her getting executed horrifically, but here he was, forced to watch all of his shipmates die in gruesome, grotesque fashions.  The sickly green gecko bot was controlled by someone amongst his rankings, but because he had killed another person, Seojun would never know who went through the same fate that he had gone through. He’d never know who the second mastermind really was.
Day twenty seven.  That’s when he woke up in the anteroom for a second time, much to his dismay.  This time, there were eighteen others around him.  Eigteen people who didn’t know what the hell was going on, or why they were here.  Seojun knew, though - he knew exactly why they were here, and he knew exactly why he was here.  He was here to scounge out for the mastermind, who was amongst all of them.  One of these eighteen students was the mastermind behind his own killing game, and it was his mission to find out who it was.  However, as he went along, things steered into different directions. There was the day where he made his friendship with Leon a thing.  There was the day where he roasted Manobu alongside Dmitri, with Raiden at their side too.  There was the day where he promised to keep Izaya safe, there was the day where he decided to help Cici feel like the princess she always wanted to be.  There was the day of theTruth or Dare game.  There was the day of the King’s Game.  There was the day where he fell in love with Runa Knightly.  Every day made up this path; every day led up to this moment.
Then, they reached to today.  Day seventy six.  The day where they discovered who Sanae Oshiro’s daughter, and heiress of the company behind the purifying machines really was.  The day where they found out that Chiyo Oshiro was the mastermind and first degree murderer of tens, hell, hundreds of people.  Maybe even thousands, if you count those outside of killing games.  This was the day where they achieved something that she despised, that the rest of the world didn’t see could happen.  This was the day where they would restore a concept to planet Earth as they knew it.  As Seojun turned to the five before him, he found himself embracing the tears that were streaking down his cheeks, and looking onto everyone before him.
Josefina de Belasco.  The tallest person on the ship, but regardless, she was simply a gentle giant that had hopes for the future.  She was innocent, but not pure-hearted either.  She was timid at times as well, and even more so humbling, but nevertheless, she never backed down in her beliefs.  She put her heart into everything she did, and only wanted the best for everyone else.
Takuma Mitsukuri.  A man who was in shambles, broken down, and beaten with despair.  A man who made himself out to be someone that was slightly confident, but more or less snarky.  A man that was more than meets the eye.  Seojun knew he didn’t get along with him at first, but as they were trapped with each other for quite a few days, he had grown to see that he was almost like him, in a way.  He wanted to protect, and he wanted to feel validated by those around him.
Dmitri Cierzon.  Cool, mysterious, aloof at times even.  Hardly did he ever see the man lash out at anyone around him with a raised voice.  Sure, he may have stabbed a man, but he believed it was for the better, with morals or not.  He was blunt, but he was honest.  He was an honest man, and even then, he was underestimated.  Pastry Chef, Spy...whatever he may have been by now, he was still Dmitri.  A boy who loved headpats, sweets, and kicking ass.
Leonhard Vogel. He stepped up to the plate when no one else would.  He spoke up when everyone else stayed silent.  He did his best to protect everyone around him, despite his conditions, despite his mental state.  He put a lot of people before his own needs, and he just wanted to make everyone happy.  He was a damaged man, but he was not broken, and Seojun knew that this man could heal with time, with people by his side.  He would consider him to be one of his closest friends.
Then, there was Runa Knightly.  She was his sunshine, as he was her Hairpins.  If there was one promise he was able to keep, it’s that he was able to protect her.  He was able to protect her, throughout all of this madness and despair.  He was able to protect this beautiful girl, someone who wasn’t perfect, but still magnificent in her own ways.  She wants to improve on herself.  She is determined, and doesn’t give up, no matter what the price may pay for her.  The blonde truly loved this woman, inside and out.
Seojun Tsoi faced everyone once again, and silently, a smile came to his lips.  “...Regardless...we did it, huh?  We...made it out.”  He looks overhead, to meet his gaze with the bright and radiant sun shining over the horizon.  “...We’re...going to start a changing process.  This isn’t...the end, that I can tell.  This is only the beginning of something new.  A new future, not just for us...for us all.  We’re finally going to have it.  We’re going to unlock something that should’ve been given a long, long time ago.”  As the blonde took a deep breath in and exhaled slowly, he found the word that he had wished to utter for so long.  They finally have it now.
“Freedom.”

Would he have a mouse-like tail, though? His body is still similar to a theropod's, and his tail would need to be heavy enough to counterbalance the rest of his body.
Well, I mean, he seems to have a mouse-like tail in that full body concept drawing (which honestly looks fairly finished). Given that his design was supposedly completed, given that it appeared partially in the scrapbook, that must mean that the rest of this image is canon, right? Perhaps?
Tumblr media
Now there are some minor tweaks between this and the scrapbook art, the lines are finished and some markings are tweaked:
Tumblr media
But overall, most of it is the same; beyond his belly, pupil getting more defined, and getting some bold lineart and trademark DB shading, he’s mostly unchanged. So the question then becomes, did the rest of him stay the same, or was it changed as well? Most if not all of the dragons in the scrapbook are halfway behind the panel there, so it’s unlikely that they covered Gunny up to get away with a non-final end-half design.
Now, assuming that Gunny’s design remained mostly the same, and his tail there was finalized, we come back to your original question. After all, the other two pieces of concept art featuring Scavenger-Class dragons seem to have the same tail. But doesn’t his tail look odd? It doesn’t quite look like skin, or hide; flesh isn’t that segmented or linear, and if you look closely, some of the segments of the tail seem to be different sizes. There are parts of the tail where you see one part is bigger than the next, ya know?
It’s almost like...the tail’s not exactly skin...but what else could it be?
...
...wait...it’s segmented...almost hard looking, like...
...like bone...
Tumblr media
WHAT IF IT’S BONE, OR SOMETHING SIMILAR?!?! Hear me out, hear me out! Just look at his tail, doesn’t it look like it’s not skin? If that was hide or flesh, the lines wouldn’t be angled and segmented like that, it would’ve been more like soft curves. But it’s not! It almost looks like it’s a hard material, like bone or draconium; or a combination, since draconium is present in the bones of dragons and humans. So it’s highly likely that Scavenger tails are mostly bone and draconium, and if their tails have more bone/draconium than the rest of their body—hence being the only part that’s not fur/skin—then it would stand to reason that it would be heavier.
An alternate point, if that theory of mine turns out to be unfounded, there’s the fact that Scavengers’ arms seem to be fairly long. I even compared the arms of the Packs and the Scavengers, and Scavengers truly seem to have arms that are closer to the length of their legs than most other Draconus bipeds. There’s a chance that they can switch between locomotive methods, going from skittering around on all fours to walking around on their hind legs.
Or who knows, maybe it’s both?
But I’ll be honest, I’m a little attached to my bone-tail idea. =P If Bone-Class dragons get to be all unique and weird, why can’t anyone else? After all, Scavenger dragons are the only other canon class with fur (I’m 95% sure that Gunny having fur is still a thing). So it makes sense that they would also share a trait with another dragon class, making everything a but more connected. If the breeding apart the dragons into different classes is fully legit, it would make sense that some breeds would resemble others more than most, ya know?
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed another Val DB Ramble! X3

TPoH: The Maze, Chapter 2
Well, I wrote another chapter. Enjoy!
Sleep did not arrive so much as found him like a streetlamp snapping ablaze, arresting a walker. It became too taxing to both think and feel the pain, and so he made a choice. RGB could not pinpoint the moment he decided to take the day, fold it thrice and put it in some tightly packed box at the bottom of everything, but at some point, he felt the back of his head come to rest upon the soft curve of the sandbank and let the world swirl into a deep dark drain. An ache in his bad leg permeated the dredges of his consciousness but he couldn’t for the life of him discern the cause before the silt settled and he was off.
Hero, curled up against his knee and eyes half open to watch, saw the line of his mouth shape something before he tilted into rest much needed. She decided she wouldn’t pester him about it later.
Exactly what it took to break RGB had crossed her mind from one end to the other, steadying into a large monochromatic eye, a dark palette and a hum in the air like some greater machine bursting to life beneath the ground. What that sight represented remained a mystery, but the last time she’d seen it, her guide had been in dire straights and surely had no choice but to become more dire in turn, more frightening than anything this strange world could stitch together. It scared her even now, however, and so she stopped thinking about it, evacuated the images like water out an ear to avoid giving herself nightmares.
But nothing disappeared in this place, like true energy of any breed, indestructible, it vacated and found a new home.
RGB became, sketched into some charcoal black scape by a cosmic slip of chalk. Offered only a moment to flicker in half questions of what and who, he spotted the ironing board, the spitting steam warping into a husky, papercut voice almost immediately, and turned tail.
Hero had fallen asleep far too close to him again, despite telling her time and time again her dreams did not agree with him, case in point. However, given the Tower still loomed some yards away like a tombstone, he couldn’t fault her. He himself wished he could have moved so he might’ve laid with his back to it.
This was a dream, of course. Hardly a total sense of place, only a vague tug at fingers and toes telling him he was not where he last left himself. Inner compass spinning in vain, he turned from one side of absolutely nowhere to the other, his only greeting an expanse of rich blackness divided by a soft chalk horizon. The symbol of aggression and its accessories had gone. He suspected the moment they’d left his view, they’d dissolved, vanished, as things did in dreams. Formless without observation, without thought.
Hours passed, perhaps. Or minutes. Time scratched its head and reviewed its notes, the projected subconscious a gray area, a clock over a campfire, numbers running. The skyline offered no indication of passage, bare and jagged in some illusion of topography though he knew he’d find no mountains far and beyond. Void as it was, moving through dreams felt heavy, clouded, as if he were chin deep in sand, carving a path for himself. He needed to stop and catch his breath, or he must have, for his hands were suddenly braced to his knees. It must have been the squeeze of some proverbial thickness in the air weighing him like a cement jacket, for he felt as if he’d been sprinting for some time, though he hadn’t been. Breathing wasn’t especially easy. RGB pressed a hand to his side as if to plug some hole through which he was sure great gulps of air were escaping.
The drip did not register until it had run to his elbow and when his hand came away oozing and red, RGB felt himself panic, then panicked. He tried to find the source, some unfelt wound on his flank, but in the selective focus of his dreamer’s eye, he could only see the spreading oval pool at his heel as the stream channeled down his leg. He bled and bled, and yelped suddenly, cries evaporating against the backs of his teeth, strangled by the air.
It spread, soaking him warm and heavy until his chalky figure filled to the edges like a flawed watercolour. He blinked hard, trying to clear the filmy pull in his eyes and his eyelashes stuck together. It stung, blinding, and he folded, cursing like a snapped wire. The flats of his fingers drilled into his eyes, trying to squeeze the pain out the corners, on his knees now, elbows pressing tightly together until the outline blurred and they shared a sleeve.
He shook his head side to side, wet hair licking his ears before he stuffed his hands through it, gripping hard handfuls and letting his eyes burn. Red squeezed under his palms, dribbling into his sleeves until his cuffs overflowed like cups. He bowed over to reverse and pour them out.
His nose and mouth filled and he raised his chin, staring through acid into the scape of a red sea rising around his knees. Hands shot down to push off the bottom and he straightened to his feet, a gasp straining between teeth, grit in terror. Drenched hairs on the back of his neck stood on end and snagged his collar like small fingers, indeed too much like them to be anything else. He tried to pivot and escape but they were too strong and too many, grips born of death, exceeding the sum of parts broken at his hand.
He couldn’t see their faces despite turning until his body locked, sides creaking like the tin man. Only their arms, thin and new, extending into his blind spot. His own voice ripped the air and he shaped his lips to catch it but it turned over, splitting off like the braid of a river to fill their mouths instead.
The weight came and he began to sink. Their arms slipped through space, all but their elbows slipping under the red as they pulled. It seemed the sea itself had sprouted hundreds of hands and all were grasping at his clothing, swallowing him at the knees and higher still, determined to drown their charge. He couldn’t feel his feet and their fingers pierced like glass in a car accident. RGB screamed with the voices of many children, thrashing and coughing up lungfuls of red, movement stunted as if key frames had gone missing. His face felt claws as liquid spilled from his nose and mouth before the sky narrowed into one thick line flanked in blazing white like twin screens in a dark cave. A massive, black Tower roared above, swallowing the xenith from horizon to horizon.
RGB awoke on his bad side to a jostle that helped the pain none. His mouth fizzled, twitched whole and back, his dials quivered in their sockets as a cry leapt from his throat, feeling more like a sob as it dragged its feet through his voice. Hero spoke his name, panicked and grainy with sleep. She must have only just woken up. His good hand found his chest as if his heart hammered beneath, an attempt at curling up bringing a true sob from his shoulders. He couldn’t move, not on his own.
It must have taken a fair amount of strength on her part to sit him up. He tried to tell himself her small hands would not pull him into some abyss but the press of the nightmare and all its fingers felt humid against his heart, and his head spun. Pain’s nest in his right half anchored him to the here, at least, though it had abated somewhat in the way the tide recedes. He knew it would be back, but he needed to take advantage of its absence.
A foundation of sand spoke for itself. RGB could not get to his feet, even with Hero’s support. More than once he fell back into his divot against the small dune, breath trembling as if it were rattled from his body like pocket change. Soon, shaking his head, the pain cracked an eye open and he knew his window had passed. Head tilting, he stole a glance at his own damaged half and poorly stifled a hitch in his next words at the sight of his outline. It had been broken, stuttering where the Tower had pierced him as if ripped from his shell. Like the sharp, snapped face of a broken bone, the edges of his very story dug into him as he moved, burning dry ice and molten rock.
“Hero-” He began, shaking his head. “I can’t- I need to lay down, will you help me?”
He did not blame her when her grip found the unceremonious ending of his lineart, deciding to hold his breath instead and try not to let the agony find a foothold. She worked to make him comfortable, straightening his lapels and smoothing his sleeves. Somehow, she knew he liked to look presentable, even prone and riding the vestiges of a truly horrible dream. She would make a fantastic coroner. The irony made him smile, and she smiled, which made him smile.
She hugged her legs when she was unsure and waiting, and did so now, her chin and mouth disappearing behind her knees. She spoke and he heard her smile waver.
“...Are you going to be okay, RGB?” Something in the fixed gaze she gave him made him want to give her an answer worth something, like the first brick that builds a home.
No throat to speak of but he swallowed, and laying on his back spoke up against gravity. It sounded crushed.
“...My outline is damaged, Hero.” He said.
“...Oh…” She’d grasped the concept as one would the sun in the curl of a finger and thumb, an eye shut tight. Her gaze flicked to the wound, looking as if she might reach for it, but did not. He flinched anyway.
“Can...Can I fix it? I can find a marker...or- or you can have some of mine…”
“...It doesn’t quite work that way…” He explained, softly.“...An outline comes from inside...and far away. Finding oneself and...and the story elsewhere…”
His consciousness flickered again. She rolled forward onto her knees, hung over him, and he saw her shape his name, but a thick static jolt drowned her voice for a moment.
“..Ah...Hero…”
“Yes? I’m here, RGB. What is it?” He heard.
“...I will be fine-” A necessary preface though he could see skepticism in the frown pulling at her lip corner.  “...I will…”
“..Okay...”
“...But...I do have a...a favour to ask of you.”
“Yes, RGB? What can I do?”
A task would pull her energy away from worrying. A busy body had no room for concern, and he couldn’t have her scared for him only for that fear to show up.
“...I need you to...watch some telly.”
Her head tilted. His fingers twitched.
“...I...don’t want to go back to sleep at the moment...not truly, anyway. I do need to rest, however.” It was only in Hero shuffling closer, turning her ear to his speakers did RGB notice how far his voice had fallen. So weak he didn’t much think the volume dial would make a difference.
“...But when you’re a TV, you go into a sort’ve....sleep mode, right?” She asked, quietly.
“...That’s right…” He said fondly, and tried to shift his better shoulder and settle in. It seemed his aches had pooled into his back, lining his blazer with thumbtacks. He wheezed and it crackled his speakers.
“...You can watch...whatever you like, really...Be it cartoons or...history...even a cooking show...I shant judge…” He said, tightly though he meant to tease.
“...Okay, RGB. I promise I’ll turn you back on when I’m done, I won’t leave you too long.” She said with a smile that could lift a mountain.
“Thank you.” His good hand rolled over as if he’d meant to do something, but it fell away like a failed card trick. He was too tired to try again. “...Thank you, Hero.”
“You’re welcome. Have a good rest, RGB.”
Some imperceptible tension left his frame the moment she switched his channel, his gentle grin chased away by the marvel of moving picture. She watched for a moment before her eyes drifted to the broken half of him.
Hero’s time in the market had familiarized her with the importance of a strong outline, a reflection of becoming real, of finding one’s story or one’s story finding them. She wondered then, briefly, where RGB’s story was, or whether he had one at all.
Hero didn’t know close to enough about the man to suppose what sort of story would take him away, eventually, and the thought had her tucking her knees closer, hugging her arms. Somehow, though, she couldn’t resign to the idea of RGB going gracefully. Her pose loosened as she imagined him fighting with all his might against the ascension to stay here, grabbing onto other creatures, hanging lights, the sun itself. That seemed more his style.
This place seemed like the one for him. It was dangerous and terrifying and beautiful. RGB was dangerous and terrifying, though it didn’t look like he knew about that. She wondered what a monster might have nightmares about. She did not ask what could push quiet pleads through the static of his sleep until he was thrust from the dream, crawling desperately on his hands and knees back to the waking world. No ill-eaten curiosity existed in Hero, she just wanted to know what had made her friend cry.
The commercial break passed and she was caught by the brightly coloured program, leaping and jumping in shades and sound, beckoning her attention. She stared, glazed and unseeing before reaching over and turning the dial, cycling through the stations, searching until the flash of stark gray caught her eye. Doubling back, Hero found some film in black and white, as musical as it was silent. A pair of men, one fat and the other thin, argued back and forth in a car that moved quicker than it should have, but the way it whipped around corners and the exasperated takes of the larger man made her smile.
It looked like something they could both enjoy, so she left it and watched all the way through.

Week 16 - Alex - Dénouement
--- Opening Thoughts:
Here we reach the end of the story of this project; the final knot, which took so many threads to tie, yet seemed not long ago to be little more than a tangled mess.  This week, our group achieved more than what seemed achievable, given the time constrains and pressure. And although so much could have gone wrong, this was truly a very ‘right’ conclusion to an epic semester-long project. I’m so very, very thankful, and proud, of each and every member of our our group - without whom this film would never have been possible. And I’m honored to have been a part of what may very well be one of the finest films produced here in ACM Animation since its inception. I also would like to give a huge thanks to all the colorists who made the production pipeline go so much smoother and faster - sacrificing their own time and effort to be a part of something amazing! I also would like congratulate our terrific voice actor Justin Bendo, for his incredible work as the voice of Angel. And to our composer Joshua Namba, who breathed life and vigor into our film through his music.
--- Weekly Deliverables
For my work this past week, a lot has happened, as most of our group can probably agree to. It’s difficult to bring to memory every individual thing, but the core tasks were these: Coloring Sq13s6, a shot I originally roughed for. Although the final version would go on to have some major alterations to Angel, I’m happy to see it least one rough of Phantom I did pretty much stuck all the way to final:
youtube
Colored Sq13s16; took a heck of a long time even using pre-programmed inputs for the coloring process. But it turned out good, and due to me needing to use base layers for the characters, Gavin came up with an interesting blending mode for the Old Man which we can see in the final film:
youtube
For the next two shots I finished line from last week, plus color and shading for this week. They turned out pretty good I’d say:

We ran into some technical issues when it came to rendering out certain files, and one in particular that comes to mind is Sq9s16, as imaged below.
Tumblr media
I don’t know how it was possible to even work on a file this large on Photoshop, with the hardware we have. It was so big that most of our group’s computers couldn’t even open it. Mine struggled big time to load it, let alone render it as an uncompressed .mov. I had to clear almost all my ram, and even then it crashed before finally managing to render it, which only took around 10 minutes (for one shot mind you,) and then uploading it which took a solid three and a half hours.
This one file almost stopped our whole production. It was amazing, kind of hilarious, and a bit scary, but we managed to pull through. I added a clipping mask to the fire’s lineart to make it orange.
The next thing which ate up a lot of time and energy this week was sound. Basically, I expected have sound done in maybe 5 or 6 hours over the weekend. Turned out it required almost two full days to finalize. Me and Gavin met up to discuss corrections and adjustments, and after some last minute feedback, all the retiming work was done, and we got an incredible audio track. Even though it was a heavy tax on my very tight finals week schedule, I think having those two days to work on it really raised the fluidity and creativity to provide something almost of a remaster to the animatic audio track we’ve been using up to this point. The premiere file itself is kind of a convoluted mess:
Tumblr media
Nevertheless, it gets the job done, and taught me a whole lot about sound editing and design over the course of the semester (except organizational skills.)
--- Last Reflections
This semester has been such a momentous one for so many reasons. If 320 taught me “how to work on animation,” then 420 taught me how to work on animation for real. The jump is so tangible, not necessarily in a “workload” sense (although that may be part of it) but more so as an appreciation for the art of animation itself as a collaborative medium, and a visually exploratory one.  I am much more aware now of every element that goes into a piece of work, and I think I can see the great value in attempting to discerning the purpose behind everything we see in Animation, as with any art piece. While it was easy to get away with seemingly arbitrary choices of shape, color, motion and such in the past, it has become especially necessary now to be deliberate in making choice, since the workload falls on someone else’s shoulders.
- Adjustments to the Process in the Future:
Not all of this is necessarily in my control, nor should this be held against anyone or any part of the film making process here, since after all we’re learning and exploring how to work in teams with new techniques. That being said, one thing I would aim to sharpen in the future is the pre-production estimates of workload times/levels, as well as the overall film length. I think I speak for most of us when I say that the film’s scope grew a lot over the course of the semester. And I’m not saying having a large or ambitious idea is bad - that’s my favorite kind of project! But it can become a bit of an issue when it grows to such a scope that we are having to recruit outside helpers and dedicate most or all of the 24 hours we have in a day to be able to manage finishing on time. Basically, just have a more rigid plan from the start, and be very cautious towards anything that adds unnecessary levels of complexity. That’s something that can be addressed at the animatic stage. Beyond that, being more cautious with the estimates of time and energy requirements per shot would help. I noticed that some (or maybe most) of the shots required quite a bit more time than originally intended to be roughed, lined, colored, and shaded. That’s not taking into consideration all the revisions they may go through as they are reviewed, given feedback, and trade hands between group members. Production schedule-wise, it’s much better to undershoot I think, and have a lot of extra time to hammer out details, maybe refine shots, and properly apply feedback versus feeling the dread of being behind schedule and cutting years from your life due to the amount of sleep lost to try and catch up. A general rule of thumb is that specificity helps. Despite how meticulously we planned, we would still occasionally run into issues such as what color a prop might be, or how the shading might change between environments. Or another example might be how a character’s physical attributes such as stretchiness might change or remain consistent throughout the film. Although these were minor things that got addressed in the end, baring those details in mind in the future would be of great help I think.
- Words of Advice to Future 420 Students
You have three options: either become a cyborg, learn to hate sleep, or adapt to being powered by copious amounts of coffee every day. As for me, I took something from all three of those this semester. Joking aside, these are some general pointers I would give to incoming 420 students: -Choose your story and teammates carefully: This semester can be as fun (or unfun) as you make it to be. No matter what though, the people you have at your side are the people you’re stuck with. Hopefully by this point in the major you would be familiar with your teammates and their individual strengths and quirks, so if you’re having trouble picking a team in the beginning, go with the people you feel are the most self-determined, hard working, and whom you can adapt to their mold (not necessarily vice versa.) If you hate your team, you will hate your semester. But if you love your team, it doesn’t matter how tough the work gets, because you can still come to class with a smile (a very dead inside smile.)
-Come in with a strong concept: Even if your idea doesn’t get picked, being able to receive other people’s ideas and represent them faithfully is vital to the overall success of the production. The better you understand the idea you are working on, the better prepared you will be to make it a reality. Also, simple designs and ideas tend to get picked more often. Keep that in mind when developing your idea.
-Diversity is a strength: Having a broad skillset on your crew is incredibly important. Ideally, everyone can functionally perform any given task on the production. But having specialists assigned certain specific tasks is very helpful. It serves to balance the workload more or less equally among members based on their strengths, and the result is a product where you have good work reflected in all aspects of the film.
-Be prepared to change your schedule: Unless your group’s idea is ridiculously simple, chances are you will be losing sleep, possible questioning your choice of major, and being forced to change both when and how you are available to people and things you care about in the world outside the borders of your computer screen. It is not a joke to say that this course can affect your health, your diet, and maybe even the way you view other people - or even yourself! If done properly, this class should challenge you in the way you live and handle work. It should force you to adapt to an animator’s lifestyle. Not that you need to forsake life to be an animator necessarily, but to give you a taste of what the industry may demand of you through certain seasons of life.
-Be able to take a joke: By the end of the project, you’re going to be throwing shots at each other left and right. It is a crazy, whacky time - and you may find yourself forgetting this is all for a school project. Learn to enjoy acknowledging your own weaknesses, and have fun pointing out the flaws in others, when its appropriate. This makes the experience not only more enjoyable, but in a strange, ironic way it makes us become comfortable with our shortcomings, and enables/pushes each other to genuinely improve our skills, and ultimately create a better product.
-Communication is key: You need to keep up with your group. Period. If you are our of the loop for even a day, it can throw things off big time. Setup a chat group via text, setup a Discord server, or find some other means to talk to one another that is reliable. Even if you don’t always feel like chatting, just be ready when somebody needs you (which will happen quite a lot.) Also, having a system of file sharing such as Google Drive is indispensable. You may find yourself keeping certain tabs open and rarely closing them, just to check for updates and be able to send/receive files when you need them.
-Practice makes perfect: I don’t care how good or bad you think you are at animating up till this point; if you do your best in this class, you will grow. You may find yourself drawing in a different art style than you’re used to, and implementing work methods and software that you’ve never used before. And that’s wonderful! Be open to experimenting and exploring new styles of work. I’ve found that is a big part of what makes animation enjoyable and inexhaustible. Just when you feel like you’re set in your ways, the moment you step into something new, it’s a whole other world, and you just might find something you like about it.That opens the door to not only other ways of being creative, but on a practical level, makes you a much more viable component to a team when being considered for hiring. Don’t let the early hardships bog you down; with time and practice, there’s nothing you can’t do. -- Well that pretty much wraps up this last blog post and the semester for 420. The experience has been life altering, no joke. I have no regrets, and I’m so thankful to have had the chance to work so closely with everyone. In my experience, this class has been the difference between being an animation student and becoming a professional animator. Even though it was as a real challenge emotionally and physically, I would take the class again if I could, and I very much look forward to working with you all - my fellow animators - in our continuing classes, as well as our careers beyond. You all have been my family here while I’ve been without one since moving all the way out here for school.
Thanks to Brittany for teaching our wonderful class! And to everyone who has fought through this semester together and made it something special, right up until the very end. Until next time my friends, this is the Undercover Animator signing out.

Kinda sketchy bc I didnt have the patience to do lineart today whoops This is gonna be a little cluttered & disorganized, also v long,, sorry!
Over half of this is credit to @mickeyjunk bc theyre bomb ◇
So to summarize simply, MAU is an AU wtih monsters of original concept and mythological legend roam wild and free with humans in a wide world! There are 4 cities; the Northern, across the sea, are dragon-tamers - the Southern are a Steampunk-themed unifying city! To the West, the City filled with cyberpunk and racist humans, and to the East, a developmental city working to have similar relations with monsters that merge their cultures together. Scattered in-between are tribes and societies of their own standing, making their homes away from the laws and constructs of society; important landmarks include the Monster Sanctuary outside of the Southern City, the 5 mountains in the North, the Haunted Fields where Demigods are rumoured to play, and a few hidden cities belonging to fae, elves, and other such creatures!
When it comes to how the characters of Okami are written into this AU, we didn’t really need to change much as the fantasy is kind of written on its own - we did Westernize it just a little, though. Poncles have taken the form of different sorts of sprites, and their societies are widespread across the country, though they scarcely leave their homes, much less on their own. Some of them have wings, others learn to navigate the world through other means. I can’t say much about the other races involved in the AU, as my moirail is smarter than me in every way and actually has better explainations for em, but with that out of the way we can get onto CHARACTERS THEMSELVES!! The three I’ll be covering are my main muses, Ammy, Issun, and Chibi- we’ll start with Issun, though.
Issun’s origin story didn’t change much from canon, actually. Overbearing grandfather, something something rebellious, ran away from home. For a long time he took to a life of petty crime and hung about the cities; on a short adventure in the woods, he was attacked by a bird who tore off one wing and ripped half of the other. He ended up cutting off what was left himself and struggled to heal from those wounds for a long time. While he can’t fly anymore, he can hover for a few seconds - trying to do this for too long usually results in pain all along his back, though, so sometimes he bandages what’s left of his wings to prevent the urge to try and fly again. (He really misses his wings dearly, but wouldn’t be caught dead admitting it.) The war paint you see on him there glows only because his lack of wings, which used to glow bright enough to keep him visible, puts him at risk of being crushed in populated areas. He met Ammy by a stupid choice to explore at night and almost became her snack; he stuck with her only because he hurt himself fighting out of her jaws and couldn’t do much to help himself. Nowadays, he’s part of her vigilante scheme to buy hunted monsters off of poachers, feed them and free them again. Though, sometimes he does part ways with her to chase after a foolish idea that usually lands him in deep water of some kind that Ammy has to bust him out of.
And thusly, we segway to the wolf herself, Amaterasu! Ammy is an Amarok, an Inuit wolf who hunts alone at night and consumes any man foolish enough to stay out late in the wild. This said, while she shouldn’t have any ties to the celestial bodies, there are rumours that days are longer when she is content with her life. (There was a very long night when she and Sköll came together, as a matter of fact… Followed by an eclipse.) She has almost no divinity apart from a few gifts given to her from a dryad (cough cough Sakuya) on one of her old adventures. Her markings are actually war paint, originally designed by Isshaku and later revised by Issun! Underneath that red paint she is a pure white wolf. If she hadn’t recognized Isshaku’s scent on Issun, she might’ve still eaten him, actually! It was only his relation to her former companion that kept him alive, and he grew onto her fast. Few can actually understand her, as she doesn’t really speak the native tongue of many mortals, but Issun can understand her perfectly and is able to translate for anyone who needs the help.
The two actually met Waka because Issun committed petty crime in the elf kingdom, and Waka is a jailor for said kingdom; when Ammy came looking for her accomplice, she was challenged to either battle him or pay bail. She did both. And then Issun proceeded to commit felonies several more times. Whether this was to see Waka or just because he’s dumb is entirely unclear.
Lastly, we have Chibi, an actual ray of sunshine! While he’s the son of an Amarok and the sun-chasing warg, he couldn’t behave more friendly and puppylike, not even willing to harm someone at night and taking to guiding them home instead. His paint was also done by Issun, who cannot figure out who his father is despite the golden-brown fringes, shorter fur, and sharper teeth of the pup. As far as he cares, every single person is a friend who needs protecting - and while he isn’t violent often, he will throw down if any friends or family get hurt. He gets money for Ammy’s monster refugee scheme by sitting somewhere with a sign that says “5 cent to pet, 10 cent for kiss” for hours at a time (he doesn’t mind; he LOVES the attention).
That’s all I’ve got for now!! sorry for the long post and thank you for taking interest in this aa!!

Final Pitch
For my final pitch I went ahead and created two designs and finalised them in a unique pose showing off their personality, traits and clothing.
As a warm up I did some sketches of birds and wings from photos that I found on Pinterest. As these are for my own personal gain and not to be publicly shared, using sites such as Pinterest for practice is okay. By doing small sketches like these help give more insight into drawing wings as they can be quite tricky with all the different layers, where the bones are and feather shape. Done in blue ball point pen.
Tumblr media
During other planning I made a quick sketch in my sketchbook which I didn’t think of at the time but later helped me develop and create a character using that pose. I don’t always feel very confident drawing human anatomy so sketching quickly and messily in my sketchbook always helps understand it a bit more.
Tumblr media
I created two character designs from sketch to rendered. I recorded the process for both characters to show my process.  A lot of the idea and development was made up on the spot. Often times when I get invested in a piece of artwork it comes much more naturally, as did with the first example below which took almost half the time than the second drawing.  Regardless, I am happy with the outcome of both. These poses are much more dynamic to what I usually do and the first one really shows a lot of personality in the character who is very happy and easy-going. It also displays the difference between casual attire and military uniform and some other minor character traits I decided to add such as the second pair of eyes and horn set on the second character.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Putting the two besides each other I can happily say I prefer the more dynamic pose. It’s different to what I normally do and I’m pleased with how it turned out. The only change I would make is adding some extra lines above the lineart on parts that include hair as to not restrict it to the lineart. Doing so just adds a little more depth to the drawing as shown on a previous drawing of mine:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If I were to do this assignment again I would go even further. Go much more in depth with the world and character building by creating more concepts featuring their (current) world, ships, lifestyle, etc. and more character designs. Using those character designs I could finalise one or two into a full character sheet that displays personality, items, clothing, etc. - perhaps adding animation or making it interactive.
