Mid Year Book Freakout Tag!

I’m a bit late to this party… but I wrote this a few days ago when I wasn’t feeling 100% after getting my second Covid vaccine and took the entire day off. So I finally had the time to write this :)

Let me pull up my Goodreads real quick and have a look at the 33 books I have so far this year.

1. The Best Book of the Year So Far

Hmm, let’s see. I feel like it’s fair to give two answers to this one, because on the one hand, there is the book that qualifies as “the best” from a literary perspective (at least in my opinion) and that would be CONVERSATIONS WITH FRIENDS by Sally Rooney. Definitely had its own style and felt… infused with a deeper meaning, at least to me. It was also very compelling. Personally, I couldn’t stop reading it. And I feel like it had a lot to say about modern-day relationships (romantic, platonic… all kinds really).

Then, there is the book that I personally enjoyed this most, and that was probably THE GIRLS ARE ALL SO NICE HERE by Laurie Elisabeth Flynn. It kind of felt like your standard thriller, but also not. While it was super suspenseful and fun to read, I also genuinely cared about the characters and loved the portrayal of toxic teen girls’ friendships and generally teenage cruelty in the context of wanting to be cool/to fit in. It made me reflect on a lot of things, so to me, it’s definitely more than a thriller that you forget right after reading it. And it also definitely qualifies as dark academia, and discovering a new DA book I love is always great! <3

2. Best Sequel of the Year So Far

Wow, I am NOT big on sequels. I have only read one this year, which is just further proof that I’m not very into book series and much prefer standalones. The only sequel I have read this year was also a very good one, though: MISTER IMPOSSIBLE by Maggie Stiefvater. Much anticipated by me and thankfully, I had a great time with it. :)

3. A New Release You Haven’t Read Yet But Want To

I’m going to go with MALIBU RISING by Taylor Jenkins Read! I was gifted this book by my boyfriend’s grandma for my birthday on June 29 (so sweet!) and I think I will read it next. I am very excited for this one!

4. Most Anticipated Release for Autumn/Winter

Two books I am VERY excited for are A LESSON IN VENGEANCE by Victoria Lee and IN MY DREAMS I HOLD A KNIFE by Ashley Winstead. I’m not even really sure why. I don’t know that much about either of them yet. But they just call to me, just like The Girls Are All So Nice Here did. And that one didn’t disappoint, so hopefully these two won’t either.

5. Your Biggest Disappointment of the Year So Far

Maybe THE GUEST LIST by Lucy Foley? I mean, it wasn’t awful. But I remember that I wasn’t impressed and had been expecting more somehow. Objectively the worst book I read this year would have to be THE SHARP EDGE OF A SNOWFLAKE by Sif Sigmarsdóttir, lol. But that one doesn’t count as the biggest disappointment, because I didn’t go in expecting that much. It was just an ebook that I bought for a low price at one point.

6. Your Biggest Surprise of the Year So Far

Definitely THE GIRLS I’VE BEEN by Tess Sharpe. I did not expect a YA thriller to be as intense and emotional and fun and just plain well-written as it was! Biggest positive surprise of the year so far, I think. :) I felt similarly surprised by  A GOOD GIRL’S GUIDE TO MURDER by Holly Jackson. Another YA thriller (or mystery, I guess?) that was so much better than I had expected! 

7. New Favourite Author

I’m going to have to say THE MOTHER by Tess Stimson. I was expecting it to be a semi-fun thriller without much depth to it, just easy entertainment, I suppose. I was extremely surprised by the emotional depth I encountered. The death at the heart of this story is that of an infant, but I was expecting the book to sort of gloss over how tragic that actually is. Instead, it leaned into the grief so much, I found myself absolutely shook? The book almost moved me to tears several times. The mystery was so intense, I kept guessing and guessing. At one point quite early on, I had the solution, but the author masterfully misdirected me from that again, so that the twist at the end came as the biggest shock! Yeah, I loved this so much more than I had ever expected! Well done, Tess Stimson!

8. Your Newest Favourite Character

I haven’t absolutely fallen in love with any new characters this year, but three that stand out to me (in the order I encountered them this year) are:

1) Pippa Fitz-Amobi from A GOOD GIRL’S GUIDE TO MURDER by Holly Jackson

2) Katrina Hawkins from THE STARLESS SEA by Erin Morgenstern

3) Nora O’Malley from THE GIRLS I’VE BEEN by Tess Sharpe

9. Your Newest Fictional Crush

Umm… absolutely nothing comes to mind lmfao. Fictional crushes have become so rare for me!

10. A Book that Has Made You Cry

THE MOTHER almost made me cry, I think. Not sure if there were actual tears. CONVERSATIONS WITH FRIENDS and NORMAL PEOPLE both (almost) moved me to tears several times. But I didn’t have any break-downs over books this year. At least not yet.

EDIT: Omg, omg, omg, I forgot A LITTLE LIFE! How the f did I forget about A LITTLE LIFE?! I broke down over this book several times. It was awful. Never before has a book made me suffer so much. I mean that. I didn’t just cry, the book also made me feel physically ill several times. Very well written, yes, but not one I can recommend in good conscience. This is not one of those instances of “You’ll cry, but you’ll love crying”, at least not for me. This is something I perhaps should have not put myself through. Because the experience overall was painful, first and foremost. Stay safe, kids. This one is… a lot.

11. A Book That Has Made You Happy

This is so sad to say, but none of the books I read this year gave me that warm, glowy feeling of pure comfort and happiness you get from books sometimes? Some passages of THE STARLESS SEA came the closest, I would say.

12. The Most Beautiful Book of the Year So Far

Again, I need to mention THE STARLESS SEA with the beautiful prose and imagery! <3 Also A LITTLE LIFE maybe? Beautifully written at times. Absolutely heart- and gut-wrenching at others.

13. Some Books You Need to Read Before 2021 Ends

Hahaha… so many. But I’ll pick out a few that I will likely finish until the year is over: MALIBU RISING, AN OCEAN OF MINUTES by Thea Lim (birthday present by a close friend! <3), THESE VIOLENT DELIGHTS by Micah Nemerever (birthday present my dad gave me! <3) and THEY NEVER LEARN by Layne Fargo (bday present my godmother gave me! <3). You see, I am much more committed to reading books that were given to me rather than books I bought myself. So these have good chances of being finished in 2021. :)

Today was the big day; the day where Joaquin was going to be officially recognized for his work. You knew your boyfriend was going to win, he was receiving so much support from the critics, fellow actors and the internet that you were sure of it; and to be honest, you were probably among his biggest fans and you thought he should have won an Oscar for Gladiator already and even more for Walk the line.  

As for your boyfriend, he didn´t really believe he would win and as the ceremony got closer, his anxiety rose, you knew how uncomfortable he felt and you wished you could take that away; he was pacing in the living room fixing his cufflinks.

“I don't see why I would win when the others did such amazing performances...look at Adam he was so fuckin´ heartbreaking!” he maintained, you stopped him, encircling your arms around his waist.

“Rain was right when she said you had such a strong inner critic.” you smiled as you stood on your toes to kiss his lips, he laughed at your comment and closed again the gap between your mouths, his kiss was tender, loving, you open your mouth to let his tongue in, gently caressing yours; as you ran out of air, you rested your forehead against his, smiling happily.  

“I suddenly feel like staying here tonight...” he flirted against your lips, you chuckled, opening your eyes to look at him tenderly.

“Let’s save that for the after party, it will be even better...” you suggested on the same tone before separating from him, the driver was already waiting outside.  

Joaquin sighed as the car approached the red carpet, it was going to be a long night. Joaquin came out first and walked to the other side of the car to open to you, your eyes met briefly, encouraging each other; as soon as you got out of the car the flashes of the photographs bombarded you, of course they wanted a picture of the Oscars favorite with his date, this was probably the phase you hated the most, for at least 30 minutes you both will have to pose and smile while getting blinded by all those flashes, and you were also uncomfortable with being taken in picture. You felt Joaquin´s hand around your waist, at least you were close to him, you also rested your hand on his back, gently rubbing circles to soothe him as you both posed for more photos.

“I can´t wait for this to be over...” he muttered as you walked towards the entrance of the theatre, you laughed.

“And I can´t wait to sit down, those heels are so damn uncomfortable.” you added smiling at the journalists, you were so used to wear sneakers that heels always became a torture after a few minutes.  

You finally arrived inside and went to your assigned seats which were close the stage, in case Joaquin would win; you sighed pleased to be seated and far from all those flashes. You looked at your boyfriend and entwinned your fingers with his, he gave you a trembling smile, you understood his nervousness.

“It will be alright” you told him, and it was the truth, in any case it will be alright; if he wins his speech will be thoughtful and altruistic as always and if he doesn´t win then nothing will change, not his talent, his career or your love for him. You felt him squeeze your hand in response.

“Thank you, for being here with me.” he cooed looking at you enamored.  

The ceremony finally started and you were having a good time, each presenter was entertaining the performances were truly beautiful and positive, it reminded you of those at the Bafta´s.  

Until it was finally, the moment to announce the winner of the Oscar for Best Actor performance. You felt nervousness built in your chest, you wanted him to win; Joaquin didn´t move, as if he was frozen on his seat in anticipation. Olivia Colman entered on stage, holding the envelop, you actually felt like your heart was going to exploded in your chest as she spoke and made jokes, the suspense was just unbearable.

“And the Oscar goes to...Joaquin Phoenix for Joker.” she finally announced, the pressure suddenly lifted from your chest, you felt like jumping and cheering in the whole room, you excitedly looked at your lover, he couldn’t believe he had actually won, and you knew that secretly he felt blessed by such honor; you gave his arm a squeeze to encourage him as he had to go on stage.

He quickly got up and headed to the micro on stage, he took the famous statuette in his hands, you pinched your lips together, your heart swollen with happiness, gosh you were so proud of him. The audience was clapping and cheering ready to give him a long standing ovation.

“No, stop.” he started, you knew he hated to be praised like that, and standing in front of so many people could only add more to his anxiety right now.

“God I’m full of so much gratitude right now...” he spoke his voice shaking, all the adrenaline pumping through his veins as he acknowledged his fellow nominees.

“But the greatest gift that it’s been giving me, and many of us in this room is the opportunity to use our voice for the voiceless” he paused, his voice slightly trembling with the emotion of the moment, you didn’t know what he planned to say in his speech, he had decided to think about it all by himself and keep it as honest as he could.

“I’ve been thinking a lot about some of the distressing issues that we have been facing collectively and I think at times we feel or may to feel that we champion different causes but for me I see commonality, I think whatever we’re talking about gender inequality or racism or queer rights or indigenous rights or animal rights we’re talking about the fight against injustice...”  you nodded; he was right.

“We’re talking about the fight against the belief that one nation, one people, one race, one gender or one species has the right to dominate, control and use and exploit another with impunity” he continued with conviction, you couldn’t help but join the audience in their applause, he was so right, he always had such peaceful and loving approach, preferring to join forces rather than confront points of views that were in the end similar in their struggle, his speech was truly beautiful, covering so much of the current fights but also praising the beauty of humanity; this was the real Joaquin, always so honest and caring, you couldn’t stop smiling.

Then he paused, his eyes searched the room, there was something more he wanted to add, and somehow you felt his emotions and understood that he was going to talk about his brother River, you knew it was still something very hard to talk about for him.

“I just...I want to...” you felt tears coming to your eyes as he struggled to speak, you could see on the giant screen the tears in his eyes “when...when he was seventeen Riv...my brother wrote this lyric, he said run to the rescue with love and peace will follow; thank you.” he finished on the verge of tears, you blinked yours away, he had managed to say it even though it was very hard for him.

As soon as he disappeared backstage, you got up and headed there to, you couldn´t wait to congratulate him and above all you wanted to hold him in your arms, he had been so brave, so strong to stand for what he believes in but also to talk about his dear brother.

You finally saw him among all the people backstage, he looked lost in his thoughts, until he noticed someone coming in his direction and the second he recognized you, he closed the gap between the two of you, almost collapsing in your arms, he embraced you tightly, your hand went up to caress his curls, you could feel his heart beating fast against your chest.

“I´m so proud of you Joaquin, I´m so happy, you deserve it, truly” you murmured in his ear between the kisses you placed on his jaw.  

“I miss him so much.” he gulped against your skin. You felt his tears wet your skin, he was crying, so you kept holding him in your arms, gently rubbing circles against his back until his cries calmed down, he lifted his head, meeting your eyes, he was so grateful to have you by his side.  

“River would be so proud of you, I´m sure he´s up there celebrating with a big smile on his face” you told your boyfriend, looking at him deep in the eyes, his eyes were wet but full of happiness, and a smile started to form on his lips.

“With all this shit I´m famished now” he joked trying to lighten the mood, drying his cheeks with his palm, you gave him a loving kiss, caressing his cheek.

“Well, that´s great because I´ve heard they made delicious vegan burgers” you winked before taking his hand to head to get them, the both of you happily laughing and eager the continue the night with his family.

Do you have any recommendations for books that fits the post you made about “slow” books/plots/romance?

Yes! They don’t all have happily ever afters. (Most of these are all-time favorites of mine.)

Mrs. Dalloway is a classic where pretty much nothing happens, but Clarissa is planning a party, London is trying to recover from WWI, and a soldier with PTSD trying to adjust to normal life. It takes place in one day. The most beautiful writing ever. 

Normal People by Sally Rooney came out a couple of years ago and is 90% feelings, 10% action. Marianne and Connall are kids from very different backgrounds who are on-again off-again as they navigate their changing circumstances. Stab me in the heart. I couldn’t tell you any events in this book? But I love it.

Sons and Lovers by DH Lawrence is another classic with omg slowburn. A struggling, working-class family… struggles. One son is enamored with a girl named Miriam, but his father is violent and his mother is overbearing. Everyone is pretty much an a-hole except Miriam. It’s like 800 pages.

The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton is a good one for beautiful writing, and a man pining for a woman he can never have. The movie (mid 90s?) is a masterpiece.

The Winner’s trilogy by Marie Rutkoski is the reason I wrote that post. It’s such good slowburn, but it is paired with an intriguing plot. This is the only YA I think fits the bill.

Deathless by Catherynne Valente is like the most decadent dessert of words. Long and dense, with tension between Marya Morevna and her husband Koschei the Deathless. The plot is an afterthought compared to their longing.

I know I recently mentioned this, but Jane Eyre is also a really good slowburn. I don’t care what Mr. Rochester has done in the past, he gets punished and Jane deserves to be happy.

Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates is the portrait of a marriage falling apart - just hear me out. It’s the 1950s and this couple is trying to live the American dream, while the husband works and the wife is struggling with being a housewife and abandoning her ambition. Then she gets pregnant, and things do not go well. I cried.

Ducks, Newburyport by Lucy Ellman is a tricky one - there is literally no plot, it’s just a woman’s stream-of-consciousness as she goes through her day worrying about climate change, baking pies, thinking about her kids, school shootings, etc. It is a bit anxiety inducing because the MC is really worried about all this stuff, but it all ties together and you start to understand her inside jokes to herself. And also it’s about 1k pages, mostly one sentence. The end is BRILLIANT.

Finally, The Long Way to A Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers is a great example of plot not being everything (and sometimes meaning almost nothing), because where the journey to this planet would be the central concern in other sci-fi, but it doesn’t really matter here. The characters are 100% more important.

EDIT: WaIT I thought of another one - The Dutch House, by Ann Patchett. As adults, a brother and sister sit in a car out in front of their childhood home, watching their stepmother. The narrator slowly recalls their lives, how they lost the house and are left with only each other, but the point is really to show how strong their sibling relationship is. 😢

everyone around you has seen them at least once

you always hear from your friends that they saw them while they are coming out from the convenience store

who is also a big fan of convenience store but you don’t see ‘meeting wanna one’ happening to you :(

so you could only get jealous of your friends

you could still continue supporting daniel in other ways 

but first, you need to get more money 

you recently found out that a Kakao store is going to open 

and they are looking for part-timers 

even though it is work

you went to apply instantly

because one, you need more money 

and two, one of the Kakao characters, apeach is your favorite thing after kang daniel 

and apeach reminds you of daniel 

so that’s why you went ahead to apply for this job

shortly after, you got the news that you got the job 

and you started working the next day 

since it is the only Kakao store in korea, you have to do lots of promotions to attract people 

just within a week of work, you have done all sorts of promotions

things like giving out flyers 

taking photos of the store

while you’re busy doing promotions

you thought the job is going to be pretty boring 

until the manager told you that you’re going to be an apeach mascot 

your smile immediately widen

because you have always wanted to work as a mascot 

this is going to be fun

and yesss, indeed

it is really fun being a mascot because so many people started approaching you for photos 

and once in a while 

you would hear girls say, “this apeach reminds me of kang daniel! what if kang daniel is inside?” 

you would giggle at their comment 

since your mascot has gained so much attention because of daniel

you couldn’t help but wonder how would daniel react if he sees a life-size apeach 

whenever big vans stop in front of the store, the delusional side of you would start to wonder off 

and think of useless thoughts

like “what if wanna one members are in the van?”

but when the person get off the van, it is just another ordinary person 

you know yourself well

you know that you are probably not going to see wanna one in the streets 

that’s when you told yourself to give up

and stop having these kind of useless thoughts 

you sighed and admit that you should just concentrate on your work instead

so when the next day comes

you are more focused on your work and not spending time praying that those random vans would be a wanna one van 

while you’re standing in front of the store, waiting for people to pass by so that you can give them flyers 

you heard a sharp scream

“IT’S APEACH GUYS” 

when you turn to see who the hell would scream because of a life-size apeach

your heart nearly stopped at that moment

it is the real kang daniel 

jisung, sungwoon and seongwoo is with daniel too 

you didn’t know how to react at that moment 

daniel has the biggest smile on his face while he walks towards you

“seongwoo hyung! help me take a photo with apeach! this is so cute!” daniel giggled 

just within a second, you found daniel beside you with his hands hanging over your shoulders and pulling you close 

you couldn’t believe your eyes......

you continued staring at him until you heard seongwoo saying, “apeach? apeach! look at the camera here!” 

you could already feel your cheeks blushing mad 

“omg i never knew a life-size apeach would exist” daniel continued giggling 

not wanting to let the chance slip away, you told him you’re a fan of him 

but because of your mascot, daniel could only hear parts of what you said

“what did you say, apeach?” 

“i said i’m a huge fan of you!” you said it louder

“i still can’t hear you, apeach” daniel giggled even more, finding you cute struggling 

“i think you should take this apeach head off so i can hear you better”

with that, you took off apeach’s head

daniel is so much closer than what you expected

and now that you’re taking a closer look

you’re really mind blown by his looks 

how can someone ever look this good........

“apeach? hello apeach?” daniel waved his hand in front of your face 

once again, you could feel your face turning red 

you didn’t realize that you’re staring at him 

“i-i said i’m a huge fan of you, daniel” 

“AHHHHH you’re really cute” he continued giggling while he ruffled your hair

without hesitation, daniel opened his arms wide and welcome you into his embrace

“thank you for loving me and giving me so much support” you heard him say as he hugs you tighter

at that moment, you’re in such a daze

you couldn’t even differentiate if you’re still dreaming or is this real 

“please tell me i’m not dreaming...” you stuttered

daniel even offered to take a photo using your phone to keep it as a prove

“you’re not dreaming my love, i’m really here” 

at that moment, you couldn’t tell if you’re being delusional or not

when daniel said it, he is looking straight into your eyes

and said it in such a loving and sweet tone 

“i got to go, my love! see you soon!” daniel smiled and ended off with a wink 

that practically ended your life

although you’re still in a very shocked state

but when you reached your hand over to your chest

omg thank you lovely

first of all, i just wanna say that i totally felt the same way before i watched it. to me, a movie about facebook seemed so bad and uninteresting. i didn’t care about mark zuckerberg at 13. i don’t care about him now, outside of wanting him to redistribute his wealth and then die. so i see where you’re coming from, and i want you to know that this movie is worth it.

however, i feel like this movie is only about mark zuckerberg on a surface level. it’s the story of facebook and it’s creation, but i think it’s primarily a social commentary: on nerd culture and privilege and male entitlement and money and how social media impacts our relationships. i don’t think it would’ve gotten the acclaim it’s gotten if it was just a movie about mark zuckerberg.

anyway, under the cut because this got LONG:

let’s start with my favourite part of this movie: mark and eduardo. i know it’s weird to think about mark zuckerberg in a) a romantic context and b) a gay context, but i think there’s intentional homoerotic undertones to their dynamic. fincher and sorkin are both so specific about the stuff they make, that i don’t think they would’ve let this get through unless they intended it that way. additionally, andrew garfield has called it a love story. more than once. even if it wasn’t a romantic relationship, it’s a great dynamic: two people who love each other deeply (in whatever way) and change the face of human communication together, only to have their own relationship destroyed due to their lack of it. it’s tragic, and it plays out so well.

jesse and andrew bring such life to the characters. in the director commentary, fincher has this whole spiel about how mark is a character, and was written as a fictional one, even if he’s based off a real person. and so it gives us jesse’s mark, who is cold and petty and smart but is also a 19 year old who finds himself making decisions he’s not prepared to make. a character who’s not an asshole, he’s just trying so hard to be. jesse talks about how he studied real mark zuckerberg a lot to prepare for this movie, and you can see it in his weird quirks and sense of superiority - but he also brings such his own heart and wit to the role. you see mark at 19/20 but also at 25, see him go from a bratty college kid so desperate for recognition to someone who learns how to be slightly more considerate towards others, who regrets hurting the person who cared about him most.

and eduardo....ugh, my favourite boy! andrew was robbed of an oscar nomination for this role, he really was. he’s so open and honest and loving at the start, and watching him go from that to someone who is closed off and heartbroken and angry always gets me. he twirls when he gets into the phoenix club and rolls his eyes at sean parker. eduardo’s father is mentioned three (3) times in the movie but it’s enough to know that it’s not a healthy relationship, that eduardo’s biggest fear is disappointing him. his fatal flaw is that he loves and trusts mark too much. he’s so well-meaning and that’s ultimately what screws him over in the end. he’s objectively the only main player in this movie that always had good intentions, and he’s the character that loses the most.

we spend two hours with the 2 main characters but it’s enough to let us know that there’s a history there, that they’re best friends and have been for a long time, that they’re smart enough to change the world together but not smart enough to save their relationship. it’s a tragedy. mark and eduardo, as we know them in this film, aren’t the Mark and Eduardo of the real world. they’re college kids thrown into the adult world in the blink of an eye, and it’s bittersweet to compare them in the flashbacks to how they are in the depositions. they’re fascinating characters with such a wonderful dynamic.

honourable cast shoutouts go to: brenda song for being the most intimidating character in the film (if you end up watching the movie and enjoy it, PLEASE watch the director commentary, david fincher won’t shut ip about how great she is), justin timberlake for being so insufferable that he’s the only movie counterpart who is worse than the rl version, armie hammer for being twins, josh pence for doing parts of the better twin, max minghella for the comedic performance of our generation, rooney mara for killing mark zuckerberg twice in one film, and joe mazzello for playing my son dustin moskovitz.

fincher!!! i actually won’t elaborate here we all know how good david is. i know this site has an understandable love of gone girl but i’d argue that the social network is the superior film.

sorkin: this movie gets quoted all the time because this screenplay is fucking iconic. i love that it won an oscar because it deserved it, but primarily i love that it won for best adapted screenplay because i’ve read parts of the accidental billionaires by ben mezrich (which is what TSN is ~loosely~ based on) and most of this is just stuff sorkin came up with. i could post the whole script because it’s all golden but instead just look at this gifset. and also this one.

this movie has the most beautiful soundtrack. if you follow me on twitter, you know that hand covers bruise is my whole heart and makes me cry every goddam time. and then you have in motion and a familiar taste, which are the ultimate Get Pumped songs. intriguing possibilities and painted sun in abstract are perfect pieces of music for watching facebook get created and go live. almost home is simple but intense, and hurts like hell when you remember what scene it is from. really i could talk about the entire score, because trent reznor and atticus ross really gave their all.

deposition cutaways: so many scenes in this movie pull you in and either make you smile or break your heart, and then it cuts back to a room with the main characters and lawyers and you remember! you’re watching the aftermath of what happened, you’re watching mark and eduardo smile at each other right before you’re reminded that they’re in the middle of a lawsuit. the way the two sections of this movie contrast is so well-done and it gets me every time.

on that note, the editing in this film? superb. i’d argue that the facemash scene is the best example, but the office scene and the club scene deserve love and praise as well. like, god, even if you don’t wanna watch this movie for the story, watch it for the technical stuff because it’s all so well done.

like, i can’t really discuss is that much but the rowing scenes? fucking incredible sir david fincher take my whole life.

what i think really works in this movie’s favour though, is that it does take you by surprise. i know so many people who were like you and me. didn’t think they’d be interested in a movie about facebook. but because absolutely everyone involved in this film gave it their all, and they turned a story about a shitty rich dude who made a website into a fictional love story slash social commentary...it’s just beautiful to watch. there’s a reason that critics and the gays of this hellsite all agree that this is one hell of a movie. and this sounds like a cop out, but i really feel like you can’t really give a reason why that is: it’s just something you have to experience.

also, if nothing else: who doesn’t want to watch andrew garfield wear a suit with several buttons undone while he smashes laptops and says the words FUCK YOU FLIP FLOPS?

how do you make poses for the roof? i'm not sure how i can know if the sims will clip into the roof or float

honestly i just...eyeball it...because all roofs are different and you can’t put them into blender so. i just winged it lmao...i just made a pose that looked like it could’ve been lou climbing out the window, only the rig was still ground level, and then i used alt + 9 to lift the teleporter onto the roof as best as i could. that’s why it probably wouldn’t be a very practical pose to release, because i have no way of making it easy to use

i don’t know if i’ll be able to replicate the reshade effect totally but i could release the action i’ve made for myself? it warms up screenshots but is totally adjustable to your liking for different color tones so in that way it’s kinda similar to the reshade. i’ll seeeeee what i can do...i know the woes of mac users all too well, my friend

I’ve been planning to write this for ages and i finally finalised the storylineee yeeeEEES be prepared for like the longest thing i’ve ever written on this blog i hope yall enjoy this ^^

honestly you were meant to go out with your friends for drinks

it was to celebrate that recently you’d gotten a promotion at your car dealership

but somehow they all suddenly ‘couldn’t make it’ so you had to drink alone

which you originally thought would seem quite sad

but then you remembered, hey, you just got a promotion, you deserve to have a good night out

after looking up some bars in the more,, suburby areas of town

you decided on one that seemed quite small and homely, posh but not too expensive

you dressed up nicely, in a fitted red velvet dress and solid gold jewellery with black kitten heels

you really felt like a million dollars as you walked into the bar

the decor was black and red, it was like you matched it perfectly

the details were gold too which made you match even more lol

you felt everyone’s eyes on you as you walked calmly through the door, taking a free seat at the bar between a group of people and another empty seat, and waiting for the bartender to come and serve you

when he came over you ordered a French 75 and made small talk with him as he made your drink

“What brings a pretty girl like you here?” he asked while starting to shake the ice, gin, lemon juice and syrup in his cocktail shaker, a confused look on his face

“I just got promoted. I wanted to go for drinks and this seemed like a good place to go.”

the bartender smiled at this and poured the shaken liquid into a glass

as he topped up the champagne flute with champagne you looked at his nametag and took note of his name, Jisung

he topped the drink with a thin spiral of lemon zest and a cocktail cherry and passed you the drink, all with a smile across his face

“Your French 75, beautiful lady.”

“Thank you,Jisung.”

he nodded at this and turned to serve the other customers as you sipped on your drink

you’d never drunk a French 75 before and as you sipped it you realised it was really alcoholic

your friend had recommended it to you as a way to ‘get the night started’ but you were beginning to think it was just a way to get you tipsy

as you focused on your drink a group of men in all black clothing walked in, followed by an extremely handsome young man who seemed about your age in a navy and black velvet suit

the men walked straight to the booth at the back of the bar where they sat opposite a man who had been there for a while, while the suited man took the empty seat next to yours and called the bartender over

“Jisung! A whiskey on the rocks,” he called across the bar to the bartender, who immediately stopped serving the other customers and came to serve the suited man

as jisung made the man’s drink he asked him quietly, so that nobody who wasn’t listening couldn’t hear

“i didn’t know you were coming, if you’d told me i wouldn’t have let the non-members in”

you paused your sipping of the cocktail and started to wonder

what the hell they were talking about

non-members?? there was nothing about membership on the google page lol

“I wasn’t planning to. As long as they don’t get in the way, this will all go smoothly”

Jisung nodded at this and finished pouring out the whiskey that he had ordered

the suited man shifted in his seat and took the whiskey off of jisung, quickly drinking the majority of it before placing it on the table and turning to face you as jisung wandered off to serve the other customers

“Do you like listening in on other people’s conversations?”

the question startled you and pulled you out of the thoughtful daze you were in

“I’m sorry, I wasn’t-”

“You were totally listening in, why are you here? You’re not a member.”

there it was again, the whole member thing

“I’m celebrating my promotion, is that a problem? Nothing about a membership was mentioned when I arrived so…”

the man seemed almost taken aback by your answer, before holding his hand out suddenly for you to shake

“Seems real enough. I’m Daniel. Tell me about yourself.”

you responded with your name and began to tell Daniel a little about yourself

maybe it was the alcohol but something about Daniel made you feel calm, even if he was being intimidating before

before you knew it you’d told him basically everything about the past week, your job at the car dealership and how your friends blew you off

“Oh, you work at that car dealership? I’ve bought cars from there before.”

he smiled wide at you as he said this, while you were trying to comprehend how he managed to buy not a car but CARS from your higher class dealership

“Maybe this was fate then?”

he smiles at your comment and picks up his whiskey again

“Maybe it was. Cheers?”

you clink your almost empty glass against his and respond with your own cheers

just as you both finished your drinks a fight seemed to break out in the booth which the mysteriously clothed men had gone too

you could hear that they were fighting from the sound of fists against cheeks

while the other customers rushed to leave you sat there in a state of shock as jisung came rushing over to you and daniel again

“Seongwoo is outside, go get in and get home before this all turns bad.”

Jisung began shutting up the bar as Daniel nodded and stood up to start leaving

you followed him blindly out of the door and towards the fancy car that sat outside of the bar

Daniel sensed your presence behind him and turned around suddenly, almost causing you to fall over

“Why are you following me?”

“I don’t know, I’m not sure, I’m a bit drunk… You’re nice so… Drop me home?”

he sighed at this and responded by pulling out his phone to call you a taxi

as he put the numbers into his phone a gunshot rang out from inside the bar and the driver of the car, who Jisung had called Seongwoo, stuck his head out of the window and shouted at Daniel to get in already

Daniel sighed at this and shook his head, putting his phone back into his pocket and opening the door of the car

“Please, get in, sweet cheeks.”

you scoffed a little at the new nickname but obliged straight away, honestly a bit scared of what might’ve been happening inside of the club

Daniel followed you inside the car, slamming the door and before you could even put on your seatbelt you were speeding off, way over the speed limit

as you speeded down the highway, Seongwoo began to question Daniel

“Who is this girl? She’s not a member right?”

AGAIN with the member stuff

“She’s from the bar. She’s important, from the dealership that sold you this car.”

Seongwoo shut up at this and looked at you through his wing mirror

you stared right back at him and realised his face was familiar, you’d sold him at least 2 fancy cars in the past few months since you got your job at the dealership

before you knew it you two had arrived at a fancy building in the centre of the city, which looked like a fancy hotel with a glass elevator going up the outside

“It’s time to get out, sweet cheeks.”

Daniel stood up and walked around the car to open your door for you

in the ride you’d managed to sober up more, and used his outstretched hand to help you stand up

Seongwoo laughed at this scene and smacked Daniel’s shoulder

“Who would expect this, THE Daniel helping a drunk stranger out of a car!”

Daniel scowled at this and snapped back

“Her name is y/n.”

Seongwoo shut up at this and went into the building before you two, locking the car with the key

Daniel led you through the doors, his hand still holding yours, and through the reception area

you passed seongwoo who was chatting to one of the receptionists and walked towards the glass elevator

nobody seemed to be bothered by you being there, and you assumed it was mainly because of Daniel accompanying you

when you reached the elevator, Daniel pressed the button for the highest floor and turned to you as the elevator began to rise

“You’ll be staying here for the next few days, I hope this isn’t a problem. We have to chat though, babe.”

he smiled at you, which made your heart ache because darn this guy was probably dangerous as hell but he sure was hANDSOME AS HELL

when you reached his room he took off his jacket and threw it against the sofa in the main room

you followed him into the penthouse suite and took in the expensive decor

almost everything was gold or gold plated, and it looked chic and stylish which seemed to match Daniel almost perfectly

as you followed him into his bedroom you noticed a couple of litter trays and cat toys which confused you a little, but when you saw Daniel crouch down and two cats come running into his arms your heart almost exploded

like uh

this guy dangerous and could probably kill you but he HAS CATS????????

he turned around with them still in his arms and smiled widely up at you

“y/n! these are Rooney and Peter!!”

you took off your heels and squatted down to pet the two cats who seemed to welcome and enjoy your touch

“Looks like they like you, y/n.”

you looked up at him, smiling, to see him smiling right back at you with the most peaceful look on his face

he stood up suddenly and called you over to sit next to him on his bed, patting where he wanted you to sit

you sat down and Daniel seemed to take a deep breath before speaking

“I don’t know how to put this nicely, but you just got involved with the mafia.”

he paused for a minute and studied your reaction, which was a mixture of shock and confusion as you tried to get your head around it

“The bar from tonight was mafia terf, usually only for members of the mafia. The fight was an arms deal gone wrong. Because you were there and witnessed all of that, you kind of have to join us…”

if you’re honest before you even considered the danger of joining you agreed, more scared of what would happen if you refused

“Why do I have to stay here then?”

Daniel smiled at your question and seemed to relax more

“You can still go to work, don’t worry. It’s just to help you keep a low profile while your role is sorted. I’m pretty sure yours will be straightforward, probably involving the car dealership…”

“Will I have to steal cars for you? I’d lose my promotion and I can’t do that I’m living off cup ramen already-”

“No, nothing like that. It just means you’ll guarantee we’d get the cars sold to us at a slightly discounted price with no questions asked.”

“Yeah, I can do that.”

“I’ll pass that on to the boss man, then. I’ll be gone during the day for the whole week, by the way. We can do something in the evenings with Rooney and Peter, but during the day you can go and meet the others.”

you nodded at this and yawned suddenly, stretching your arms over your head

Daniel stood up and offered the bed to you straight away

“There’s my t-shirts in the wardrobe, I’ll take the couch.”

before you could even attempt to argue he’d disappeared into the main penthouse room, shutting the door behind him (and rooney and peter who’d followed him)

after you got your head together you changed into one of his tshirts and got into the bed, pulling the soft satin - or maybe silk - bedsheets over yourself and drifting off into a deep sleep

when you awoke the sun was already high in the sky and you thanked god it was a Sunday so you didn’t have to go to work because… you’re pretty sure it was like midday or something

you opened the door to the main part of the suite and rooney and peter greeted you with meows

you noticed a large box on one of the sofas accompanied by a note which said “realised you had no clothes - got seongwoo to fetch these from your house. -Daniel x”

inside were enough outfits to last the week along with your work uniform too and a few pairs of shoes

you changed quickly and got into the glass elevator to go;; exploring

you first went to the ground floor and spotted Jisung straight away

he was with another shorter guy and they seemed to be laughing at something

you called out to him and he turned round to face you with the strangest look on his face, the guy with him also looking completely baffled

“Hey, why are you here? What happened I thought you weren’t a member?”

“I am now, I’m staying with Daniel. Nice to meet you, I’m y/n.”

“Hello, y/n!! I’m Sungwoon, pleasure to meet you. If you ever need me just head to the fifth floor~”

Jisung rolled his eyes at this and led you all away from the centre of the of the lobby

you three walk to the lift and take it to the floor with the bar and casino, which were shut for the day

Jisung unlocked the door and let you in, and you and Sungwoon sat yourselves on the barstools and waited for Jisung to start making drinks

Sungwoon opened his mouth to ask you something but Jisung interrupted almost straight away

“What flavour theme should there be?”

“Citrus!”

Sungwoon turned back to you and smiled

“What’s it like living with the boss’s son?”

the boss’s son??? What

“Wait, you didn’t know?”

Jisung stopped preparing drinks and sighed at your response to the question

“Don’t worry about it, he likes you. Don’t let his position intimidate you.”

he went back to preparing the drinks as you and Sungwoon sat in total silence

when you’d finished the drinks tasting, the sun was setting so you got back in the glass elevator alone, because Jisung and Sungwoon would both be staying in the casino for the night

you tried to only think about the fun tropical and citrus themed menu you 3 had created, with long island iced teas and other fun drinks

but the only thing you think about was how the cute but dangerous handsome Daniel with the pet cats was the son of the mafia boss

when Daniel got back, not long after the sunset, he presented you with a takeaway pizza and a DVD of some cheesy rom-com movie

he also announced that your position as being an associate at the car dealership was accepted

this had made your mood brighter, and you weren’t about to turn him down on the pizza and the movie so you set up the tv in the suite and sat down next to him on the sofa, rooney and peter sat in your laps

when the film reached a more quiet scene you turned to Daniel and asked the question that had been on your mind ever since earlier

“Why didn’t you tell me you were the son of the mafia boss?”

Daniel picked up the remoted and paused the film before turning to you with an odd look on his face

“I see they told you… I just didn’t want you to think differently of me, or… be intimidated…”

“Daniel, I’m not at all scared of you. Not even a tiny bit.”

he smiled at this, playing the movie again and taking ahold of your hand

and so you two stayed like that, holding hands for the rest of the night

the next day was almost an exact repeat, expect for the fact that you had to go to work, and so was the rest of the week

you two left at the same time, you jokingly ‘kissed’ Daniel goodbye on the cheek and went to work, and when you got home he’d bring takeout and you’d watch a film or a tv show together, all while holding hands with his cats sitting on your laps

you couldn’t deny that you had feelings for him, and when saturday came around you dreaded the thought of even leaving his side

but you assumed your feelings were one-sided as you two packed up your stuff into boxes to take back to your apartment

“I’m so sorry I can’t drop you back, I have work and-”

“Daniel, it’s fine. I’ll just see you here or at the bar sometime.”

he sighed at this and continued to pack your stuff

and honestly, he too had feelings for you that he was sure you didn’t reciprocate

you waved goodbye to rooney and peter and got into the glass elevator for the last time with Daniel

as you waited to leave, your stuff packed into Seongwoo’s car, Daniel came out to go to his work himself

you smiled at each other and you kissed him on his cheek, something that had become a daily routine for you two

you got into the car and waved goodbye to Daniel as you drove off

as you neared your apartment, Seongwoo looked at you in his wing mirror just like he had on the day you first met Daniel, and began to speak to you

“I know Daniel well, he’s my best friend, and I know he likes you a lot. I hope to see you more in the future, y/n.”

you smiled at him in the wing mirror and thanked him as he pulled up outside your apartment

as you got out of the car and said goodbye you noticed an out of place black SUV sitting outside your apartment

but you brushed it off and went inside anyway

as you got to your apartment you tried to put the key in the lock but the door swung open

you flicked on the lights and made your way into your living room, shouting ‘hello?’ at the top of your voice

suddenly, when you got to the centre of your living room someone put a gloved hand over your mouth and pulled your head back so that your back was against their chest

“Shh… No screaming… Little Kang Daniel’s girlfriend is very important… You’re coming with me.”

before you even had time to process the fear and panic going through your head the hand over your mouth was gone and your attacker had completely let go of you

you turned around and saw him

Daniel.

he was fighting back against your attacker, winning easily, before knocking him to the ground, unconscious

he ran over to you straight away, wrapping his arms around you tight and cradling your head

“You’re shaking… I’m so sorry… Seongwoo told me about the suspicious SUV… I came as soon as I could…”

you breathed deep, shaky breaths into his chest, taking in his scent before he pulled away

in response you looked up at him and he held your face in his hands before leaning in to press his lips against yours

he pulled back and wrapped his arms around you again, whispering into your shoulder

“I’m never letting you go again.”

so you just kept walking

you noticed how the rain was getting heavier the closer you got to your house

you couldn’t help but feel worried

like ‘what if that guy gets sick staying in the rain’

you were a bit conflicted

‘he’s probably gone back inside, he’s not dumb’

‘then again i have seen him do some questionable things’

‘that doesn’t mean he’s stupid enough to stay out in the rain’

you kept going back and forth with yourself until you realized how heavy the downpour had gotten

so you decided ‘screw it’ and grabbed an umbrella

you headed back to the cafe

when you reached the alley he was still there

and he had taken his jacket off and thrown it over a box

you refrained yourself from calling him an idiot out loud

instead you walked over and held the umbrella over his shaking form

he didn’t notice at first

but the lack of cold rain pelting at his increasingly numb skin got his attention after a few seconds

he looked up and almost jumped ten feet seeing you there

“i brought you an umbrella”

he looked shocked for a moment before smiling up at you

“thank you”

the whole soulmate thing wasn’t on your mind at the moment so you didn’t even bother checking what his wrist

“what are you doing out here anyway” you’d ask

without a word, he’d pull his jacket away from the box

revealing a litter of kittens

“my dad has a limit to how many cats we can have in the cafe, and we’ve already reached it so we can’t let these ones in”

he sounded so sad when he talked about it, a small frown on his face

“and my apartment doesn’t allow pets so there isn’t really anywhere for them to go”

his sadness eventually traveled to you

the kittens were looking up at you

you died a bit inside

“i can keep them” you offered

the guy looked up at you with complete adoration like ‘wowow what an angel’

the way he was looking at you made you flustered

he stood up, gently taking the umbrella from your hands and placing it over the box

he quickly ushered you inside, “before you take them, i owe you a coffee”

so you both entered the cafe through the back door

soaked (even you, despite only being exposed to the rain for like two seconds)

woojin and another worker (jihoon) were shocked to see you

they practically threw some towels in your faces and forced you to sit down in the kitchen

they left to make you guys something warm to drink leaving you alone with him

it was kind of awkward, the atmosphere was slightly tense

you glanced over at him, only for him to be staring at you

it was just like you were back in class

“i’m daniel, by the way” he said with a smile

you adored animals and you enjoyed looking after them during the semester

it was a great way to distract yourself from uni worries like exams and friendships and internships 

you only worked once a week but you were super familiar with the shop and the owner aka mrs kang loved you and said that you were her favourite employee

you loved both cats and dogs and it was impossible to choose which one you liked more because it was equal

mrs kang had two cats - rooney and peter 

when you first met rooney and peter you couldn’t help but fall in love with them

mrs kang had explained that her son had got them from the animal shelter and named them rooney and peter without realising that they were actually females 

but it was already too late to changes names bc the cats were already used to their given names

you’d already worked for mrs kang for half a year and she was a nice lady but you had been quite curious about her life

she had a son but why was he never around?

mrs kang was a woman who kept to herself so you didn’t want to pry into her life

so next day you open up the shop and set everything up and feed the pets lmao i have no idea how a pet shop works so forgive me 

at around noon you are sitting at the counter when the bell rings and the door opens signalling a customer

he asked you about your life and you told him about uni, your friends and the stresses of finding a stable job after you graduated

you guys clicked so well and talked about everything and anything

it has been a while since you last clean up around the apartment so you decided to get to that to kick start the long break

the moment you stepped out of the apartment to throw out the trash, you were greeted by a baby girl (her name’s Luna) waddling towards you and giggling

you were familiar with her, your neighbour would babysit her almost everyday, you often played with her whenever you see her outside of the apartment

“Luna!” suddenly a tall figure came and carried her in his arms

he had such a lean body, the muscles on his body were defined

you pondered over it for a bit and thought, a little company wouldn’t hurt so you took up his offer

Daniel got really excited and held you by the wrist then led the way

he told you about wanting to go to this cafe that he has been eyeing on ever since he got home

“i used to always go to this cafe!” (back when you were free from the craziness that is school)

both of you ordered your drinks and sat by the window (aka your usual spot) and talked about almost everything

about school, family, work, Peter and Rooney - the cats you often see around which apparently belonged to him

that was also how he learnt that you are a cat lover like himself (he even sneakily suggested on bringing you out on a date to the cat cafe)

he also brought up the time when both of you first met which made you face palmed yourself (mentally)

“it was so hot that day, i just had to take my shirt off. i’m so sorry our first meeting had to be that way,”

“no no it’s fine really! i didn’t mind the view- IT, I MEAN IT”

“i am so sorry. i am so embarrassing. if you don’t wanna hang out with me anymore, i totally understand”

“actually… i wanted to get to know you after we first met. i was waiting for you to head out of your apartment again but you didn’t. so i thought maybe it’s not meant to be till today, when we coincidentally met. I’m really happy that you said yes,” Daniel smiled shyly

you buried your face in your hands, touched by his words

“anyway what did you do in your apartment the whole time?”

“OH well you know… just lazing around, trying to recover from that embarrassing moment”

from that day onwards, both of you spent a lot of your days together, gradually being more and more comfortable with one another

you even shared inside jokes and gave each other nicknames

both of you too enjoy going to the cafe, cat cafes, watching movies, going for karaoke sessions

sometimes you would just hang out at his place or at yours (did i say sometimes? i mean MOST of the time)

his mom is always glad to have you around, since you often help her with some work

“you know the other day, mom called you her daughter in law. you know what that means?” Daniel starts wiggling his eyebrows at you

actually you weren’t sure if you were dating or just friends, you were stuck in that grey area

both of you didn’t really declare it as it is, you just went along with whatever you were feeling

though there were times where he seemed very boyfriend-like, it really made your heart flutter

like when he helps you to put on your shoes (even when you insist that you could do it), giving you his hoodies when you’re cold (it is now a growing collection in your wardrobe)

and especially when he's taking care of Luna and helping his mom

you genuinely do like him but you were too shy to express it

but when you do try to express it, you end up blushing so much and he’ll start teasing you about it

one of the days, the doorbell kept ringing in the early morning, disturbing your deep sleep

annoyed by it, you dragged your feet to answer the door in your just-rolled-out-of-bed state

when you opened the door, you see a sleepy Kang Daniel (looking REALLY adorable) with messy bed hair and a giggly Luna in his arms

“change of plans, let’s stay in” he said with a yawn as he sat down on your couch, while Luna played with his hair

he later explained that his mom had to run some errands so he has to take care of Luna for the day

both of you decided to head over to his place since most of Luna’s things were there

while he gave Luna a bath, you prepared a quick meal for the three of you and fed the cats

after entertaining Luna for a bit, both of you decided to bring her to the swimming complex nearby to cool down from the crazy heat

so with Luna in your arms and Daniel carrying the bags, the three of you head off to the pool (ngl you guys look super cute, very family-like)

you guys had fun teaching Luna how to swim and stuff like that

halfway through Daniel decided to take off his top claiming that he was ‘feeling warm’, subtly showing off his arms and muscles

you knew he did that just to get a reaction from you, in which HE SUCCEEDED

after a long day, it was time to head back home

on your way back, a lady approached both of you, offering you a handheld fan to keep Luna cool from the hot weather

after spending the day with you today and seeing how you took care of Luna (and also him), he knew he wanted to spend his life with you

when you realised that it was Daniel, you figured that he probably brought you back, got too tired to head back so he resorted to sleeping on your couch

you crouched down by his sleeping figure, watching as he breathed in and out

I read through most of your story posts the other day and now I’m rereading it again just to torture myself some more (and maybe catch up on some posts I may have missed). YEAH I DID! omg. i have a LOT of issues with this season (mostly in how badly they tried to retcon nancy and everyone else not caring about barb’s death, how bad the writing was in the realm of nancy and steve breaking up and then her and jonathan getting together...holy fuck it was so uncomfortable with that 40 yr old conspiracy theorist guy i couldn’t even enjoy my ship getting together lmao) also ur right, max and billy honestly did not offer anything to the story...like i loved max too but what was the point...billy acted like their presence and the reason they had to move was so dramatic when it was really nothing...unless they’re saving that for season 3 but like. the whole situation with billy was so anticlimactic. he was like a walmart version of henry from IT. like boohoo ur dad’s an asshole and then he beat up steve. good character arc. i liked max standing up for herself but really...that whole thing was so lackluster, i didn’t care about it at all. As a single mother myself I'd really enjoy seeing you take on the issue. Personally, my biggest problem was overcoming the generalizations people put on you when you're a single mom. People always assumed that I that I was stupid and uneducated because I had my son when I was 17.

yes! that will definitely come up. i will focus a lot on her struggles as a single mom. so far i’ve mostly just peppered in some stuff about money troubles, and that will come up again, and the issues you mention will be pretty central to her character as well. i’m sorry you have to endure that, it’s not fair. people don’t even realize how strong and dedicated single mothers are.

you gotta turn bb.moveobjects on and then press alt + 9 when an object is selected to move it upward. so what i did with those poses i made was, i selected a teleporter and pressed alt + 9 until it was at a spot i liked on the roof. that’s why releasing those poses would be tricky, ‘cause every build is different so there’s no set way to place them, you just kinda have to play around with them

do you have any tips for taking good screenshots in game? like how to get the good angles and good quality? i play on ultra but i think when i zoom in and then use the arrows on my keyboard to move around, the pictures gets less clear and looks kinda blurry. how should i do this?

well if you’re already using ultra, there’s not much you can do lmao. sims 4 is just bad with textures in general. it also depends on the objects as well, some are better quality than others. if i zoom in far on a sim’s face, i generally know there will be some pixelation and i can clean that up in photoshop with topaz clean and the smudge tool. i am very reliant on photoshop sometimes lmao. it sounds like you already have the basics of taking good screenshots, it’s just sometimes you have to fight and work with sims 4′s less-than-hd quality.

i searched things like “bonfire” and pasted parts of it that i wanted on the pic to make it look more realistic, then put a layer mask on the pasted pic and erased the edges and stuff to make it blend in better. the sparks and stuff i added by pasting it onto a new layer and changing the blending mode to screen!

for any skin detail or makeup, you have to go into s4s and open the package up, go to one of the tabs (honestly i don’t remember which one because i don’t have it open rn lmao) and you’ll see the different age groups and you check the box for toddler. and then save it of course. (there’s probably a better guide on how to do this somewhere lmao)

i just set mine to ts4′s screenshots folder because it’s what i was used to and it works for me haha. hmmmmmm did you copy the exact address or whatever it’s called of your folder’s location and then paste it into the reshade box? try doing that with another location and see if it works. if anything you can do what i did ‘cause it worked for me

Unpopular opinion: im so done with game of thrones tbh. It's not even good anymore :/ I liked the first season but since then i've skipped through episodes because they are just sooo fucking boring and dragged out!

see like the first three seasons were pretty good because they stayed true to the books. (actually that’s a lie, littlefinger’s chaos speech in the s3 finale was real fuckin bad because guess what: it was original material LMAO) the fourth season was where it started to get messy and then the fifth season was a fucking shitshow because they completely IGNORED the fourth book and cherrypicked all the “good” parts out of it (read: the most action-y parts, while ignoring all the most important pieces of character development) and they botched the dorne storyline, oh and who could forget the iconic moment of throwing in a rape (THAT DIDN’T HAPPEN IN THE BOOKS) just for fun :) love it! but anyway if you think the show is boring i probably wouldn’t recommend the books, they’re even slower getting through them lmao. but it’s worth it in my opinion. there’s so much they don’t include in the show and it makes me Angery

I wanted to know if you or friends had any experience or recommendations for buying crystals online like on etsy or amazon. How can you tell if they're real?x

ooooh ok. usually there are shops like those in cities or even in towns with like kitschy little promenades with independent shops. (i know there’s one around the town over from mine, which is so random lmao) i do have friends that have crystals but i think they mostly just collect them for the ~good vibez~ and don’t really look too far into the healing aspects of them. i would say first go with the one that coincides with your birth because those are the ones that are like specifically catered to you and strengthen your being. as for buying online, hmmmmm i mean i don’t really know any specific trustworthy sellers because i don’t have much experience with this, but definitely read the reviews! those will help you a lot <3

i honestly didn’t do much of anything that differs from my usual editing process! i made her eyes a bit bigger by using the clone tool, cloning the top of her eye and applying it a little bit farther up...if that makes sense. it’s hard to explain how to use that tool lmao. and i think i used the liquify tool to bring part of her eyebrow down to look more worried.

OK I LOVE THIS QUESTION AND I’VE BEEN HOLDING OFF ON ANSWERING IT SO I COULD GIVE IT SOME SERIOUS THOUGHT

so santi’s favorite movies are akira and godzilla (only the original godzilla, although he did like shin godzilla that came out last year, but otherwise he gets very heated about the remakes and sequels, especially the one starring matthew broderick…don’t even bring that one up) he was also obsessed with jurassic park when he was a kid and wanted to become a paleontologist until he found out that paleontologists don’t actually get to meet real dinosaurs. he’s a geek ass so star wars of course. i feel like he would probably like green room too. oh and the goonies. hmmm what else…probably spider-man (2002)…scooby-doo 2: monsters unleashed…bad movies that are fun to watch. oh and when he gets really high he watches mary-kate and ashley movies. his favorite is the one where they go to the bahamas. 

gianni is the hardest because i feel like he would like a lot of obscure foreign films or weird surrealist films. like probably el topo or the holy mountain until he found out how shitty of a person alejandro jodorowsky is. omfg wait i watched swiss army man recently and just thought of santixgianni the whole time. he would definitely like that one. OH I JUST REMEMBERED i decided a while ago that his fave is fantastic mr. fox. oooooh and big fish. OH and definitely lord of the rings i mean c’mon. and he’s probably a slut for david lynch too so u know eraserhead and blue velvet. aversely, he probably watches a lot of ridiculously over the top action movies (probably like the fast & furious series lmao) because he finds it interesting how desensitizing they are.
