Hey sorry this was before my time, I’d love to have you elaborate on Scott’s acceptance of Flower Husbands changing the game for mcyt ships, so to speak. Like, what changed? What was it like before?

well. this is a little disorganized bc its off the top of my head and from memory but.

Hermitblr (which trafficblr/empiresblr is closer to than dsmpblr i'd argue) had just come out of a nasty discourse conflict about hermitshipping. doxxing and harassment abound. so people were really. scared. to even touch shipping again, knowing how it had once been.

Then 3L started and we got Scott and Jimmy were married in the first episode. They were canonically husbands for the entire series. The fact that neither Jimmy nor Scott were hermits and the canon relationship helped. thaw tensions a little bit, in my opinion. still people were anxious and even people who are now vocal shippers of flower husbands/known for flower husbands were tacking on "platonic" any time they referred to fh as husbands.

But Scott was so encouraging of the flower husbands name and expressed clear consent with shipping him with jimmy that it felt. safer. that people couldn't make the argument shippers were breaking boundaries. the canon aspect of fh coupled with dogwarts clearly playing characters in the form of the red king and his hand, it helped make the distinction between shipping the youtubers and the characters a lot more evident.

I genuinely don't think we would have gotten to the acceptance we have of shipping quite as quickly if we hadn't had flower husbands. like maybe we would have got here eventually. but scott really helped ease that process through i think.

very curious if our society (youtube) has evolved to producing twenty-four-hour length video essays yet. bc ik on average the video essays i watch tend to be around an hour, some shorter some longer but this is my preferred length, 2-3 hours is on the longer side for me but if it's a topic i'm into or a creator i like i'm down for it, longest i've personally watched is 5-ish hours (tho that one was broken up into a lot of smaller segments and not meant to be consumed in one sitting) but i know for a fact there are much longer video essays out there. the longest i've seen in my recommended is eleven hours but i know there must be more out there. what is the video essay event horizon? have we reached "videos of nerds (complimentary) infodumping about niche topics which would take an entire day nonstop to consume"

sure, I could write that essay about the growth of nationalism in the 19th century oooooor I could not write it, feel extremely anxious about the fact that I’m not writing, and lie here thinking about Teddy in between the anxiety

so I DID turn in a sketchy, significantly short, rough draft that doesn't yet engage with secondary sources, and I AM going to get a numerical grade on this even though it doesn't affect my final grade (awful, don't make me see that) but it will be worth it if I can get a little direction. I think with enough time I'd feel pretty confident in my ability to write this paper, but right now the priority is just getting it into a passable state so I can graduate.

was thinking about another observation i want to put into my hypothetical mouth congress video essay whenever i get around to actually making it and i had to take a step back like "jess you already have so much you want to cover how long is this video essay going to be"

and then i remembered that interview where paul bellini said the original cut of the mouth congress documentary was over three hours and "nobody wants to watch that, even those of us in the band couldn't watch it!" (side note i would watch that. release the bellini cut lmao)

anyway idk exactly how long this imaginary video essay is going to be but if it's even one minute over the length of the mouth congress documentary (which i believe is an hour and sixteen minutes?) i'm putting that interview clip as the opening bc of the irony

me when i was supposed to have three (3) meetings with my long essay supervisor and i've only had one . almost two months ago btw . and the deadline for the long essay is next week . i'm literally writing her an email rn feeling like the messiest person on earth (i am) while hoping she won't chew my head off and agree to have at least one more meeting.. wish me luck and all that
