song rec. nan-nan — fujii kaze (recommended by the nishimura riki himself i’m actually being fr so go listen to it !!!)
a/n. so many ppl ik are graduating hs this year and so this is rlly giving ✧ prom ✧ ,,,,,, i miss my prom :’> even tho it was kinda sorta a big disaster ,, but uh ,,, that’s a story for another time :’>
Tumblr media
the mildly chaotic atmosphere mixed with the heat emitting from hundreds of bodies filling the room, you swayed side to side, doing your best to mask the hidden gloom you were feeling inside.
you had come to your school dance with your friends, but being too immersed into the music and the energy of the night, they eventually found themselves drifting off to go dance with others they took interest in, leaving you all alone at the corner of the dance floor, moving around awkwardly to look like you were busy and enjoying your time, when really, you felt lonely and pathetic.
eventually, the upbeat, hype song ended, and on came one you immediately recognized to be by none other than fujii kaze, one of his pieces called nan-nan. you smiled at the memory it brought to you from a few months ago…
you were sitting in class beside one of your peers you wished you had the opportunity to grow closer with, nishimura riki. after knowing him for some time you found there was some unique charm to him, from the way his boxy smile would fill the room with a glowing aura, to the way he would make those around him laugh at his silly behaviour. there was just something so attractive about him, and one day you began to realize the way your heart would pound abnormally whenever he would do as little as say your name; or the way your stomach would flutter with butterflies whenever he would share a new favourite song of his with you, and how his eyes would light up whenever you expressed that you liked it.
you began to like this boy called riki ever since.
and so when nan-nan began playing, the instrumental in the intro leaving the speakers and filling the echoey room, you somehow found and locked eyes with riki, perhaps through some crazy coincidence or maybe by fate, and you smiled at him immediately before he returned it, as you were reminded of the time he happened to share that exact song with you in class just a few days ago.
he was dancing with his own friends and having a good time, but after meeting eyes with you, he immediately made his way over with that goofy, excited grin on his face. and your heart went wild.
he looked stunning in his white button-up, sleeves rolled up to highlight his forearms perfectly. it was a typical outfit for all the guys at this dance, really, but somehow, in your eyes, riki pulled it off infinitely better than any of the other hundred boys in the large room, dancing their worries away.
his hair was slicked back, exposing his forehead which you didn’t get to view every day, for most of the time it was hidden under his fallen bangs.
and why was he looking so stunningly tall today? there’s no way he could have grown so much in just one day…
and before you knew it, the boy with the growing grin was standing in front of you with a hand out, asking for your own.
you glanced down at the welcoming gesture and gulped before blinking and looking back into his eyes that searched your own.
“you looked a little bored dancing all the way over here, but the fun is in the middle. wanna join me?” he proposed, practically yelling to get his words in over the blasting music. “and plus, it’s our favourite song.”
‘our favourite song.’ just at the use of a simple three-word sentence, a heat stronger than the one already surrounding your body made its way up from your neck, all the way to your ears.
you nodded, accepting his invite and placing your hand in his before he smiled at you and led you to the middle of the dance floor.
he turned to face you, and you chuckled, voice wavering.
“your hand’s shaking,” he pointed out.
“a little sweaty too, i guess—sorry,” you blurted out.
“are you nervous?” he asked with utmost care in his voice, a contrast to the usual tease he was to those close to him.
you pressed your lips together before displaying a small smile and tilting your head side to side, a way of saying ‘kind of, maybe a little.’
understanding and giving you a look of empathy, he grabbed your other hand before bringing them to his shoulders.
“just follow me, okay?” he told you.
and you nodded, wrapping your arms around his neck as his met your waist.
you two then danced along to the music that made your hearts happy, and you found your nerves disappearing in an instant, forgetting any stresses that were previously on your mind as you enjoyed your time together in each other’s hold.
and whenever he wanted to change things up once in a while, being the dance talent he was, he would guide your body along with his in moves that were simpler to pull off than they looked (but maybe that was just because he was a natural when it came to this kind of thing), leading you to do turns here and there, or pulling your bodies apart and then meeting closer once again. anything he did with you on that dance floor made you two look amazing amidst enjoying your time with one another, and he just made the experience all the more worthwhile.
and whenever his moves would slow, he would take that time to dramatically sing his heart out, and you’d follow along playfully, making each other laugh.
once your favourite song ended and another immediately began to roll around, both your movements naturally slowed, and he pulled away slightly before speaking.
“thank you for the dance.”
“thank you,” you smiled softly.
he smirked, “your dancing’s not too bad.”
“i could say the same for you,” you followed with a chuckle.
“we should do this more often,” he suggested. “or maybe that’s just an excuse for me to show you more songs sometime, who knows?”
“you know, both don’t sound too bad to be honest,” you replied.
“yeah?”
“yeah.”
“cool,” he said, unable to hide his proud smile for just getting the girl he liked to do some of his favourite things with him in the future, in the form of which was already sounding like a potential date. “in the meantime, this song sounds a little too good to skip out on… care for another dance?”
he held out his hand to you for the second time that night, a smile painting his lips.
“i’d love to.”

a/n. so story time in regards to the prev a/n bc i have no love life <//33 ,,, basically at my prom one of the literal four things i remember from that night was how me and this old guy friend who i kinda liked at the time and i think he liked me too (but we drifted apart a couple years ago,, and to put this into perspective, this took place exactly one year ago) kept making eye contact throughout the whole night and created this super thick tension. ok the thing is :’> i hadn’t seen him for a whole year cuz he graduated the year before me, and we used to be pretty good friends but didn’t rlly keep in contact after not seeing each other for one whole year. and so we kept making eye contact, probably wanting to say hi, but it eventually came to the point where it would be awkward cuz it was so obvious we had both acknowledged each other’s presence for the past 30 mins !!! it was so awkward omg and jsnsjd wait hold on don’t even get me started on how we even ended up later then sitting at the same table but still not saying a word to each other djdndjd T-T and then by the time we all finally went our separate ways, i was left feeling a sense of emptiness and regret T-T ,,,,,, the tension y’all i cannot stress it enough !!!! ugh ihateitihateitihateit but anyway, switching topics while i try to erase this forbidden memory from my mind all over again,, about the drabble, i hope you guys enjoyed <3 if you did, letting me know through more than just likes (rbs, comments, asks, etc.) helps out a lot !! i rlly appreciate it, thanks for reading !!

Belle I rlly miss Teenage Dream Matty
Do you think they went to prom together
AWWWWWW yes absolutely I think they did
They probably didn't stay long, they ditched to go get food in their formal wear with the rest of the boys because it was lame, but they did the whole awkward pictures thing at his house first and he got a tie/corsage to match the color of her outfit.
They left the prom looong before the slow dance portion, but they did a little dance on their own in Matty's room to his music <3 (I wanna say to something like Iris by Goo Goo Dolls and he's mouthing the words to her while they sway pls someone kill me)

ok i wanted to do something for croma week rlly bad and since i'm not that confident in my art skills i wrote a fanfic :) its only about 2k words, i've never really done this before tho so i hope it turned out ok lol (ignore that it’s a day late)
“Did Lord Death really need to rent a venue this far away?”
“Maka, keep your fucking eyes on the road!”
“I wouldn’t need to keep looking back and forth if you read off the directions like you were supposed to!”
Soul grumbled something about the ‘straightforward’ instructions under his breath in reply. When Maka glanced at him, his dirty sneakers that he had insisted on wearing were smudging the dashboard and he was very clearly watching a Minecraft parkour video. Despite the lack of space in the back, she was regretting giving him shotgun privileges. She could have made room somewhere. Overlooking the trunk was too generous a move.
In the rearview mirror she checked on her passengers. Kid sat in the middle seat – the ‘bitch seat’, as Patti refused to stop calling it. Liz and Patti sat on either side in matching white dresses. Their outfits had been painstakingly planned out by Kid weeks in advance. On each side of his chest he wore a perfectly positioned white boutonniere.
“Kid,” Maka asked into the mirror, “why is your dad going to all this trouble? Couldn’t we just do this on school grounds?”
“He mentioned something-or-other about wanting to do ‘something normal’ for the student body. I believe all of this is wildly unnecessary, but… you know Dad.”
“Ah.”
“Maka, that’s – that’s the turn. You’re missing it. Get the – no, the sign with the balloons on it. Maka!”
“I got it! Stop yelling in my damn ear, Soul!”
The venue that Lord Death had chosen was rectangular and beige, with large cardboard letters that spelled ‘PROM’ adorning the entrance. They weren’t lit up and so they loomed in the darkness above the students. Even though the little parking lot, too, was dim, it was clear that most of the spots were taken.
“Maka, your clock reads eight-o’-four,” chirped Kid from the back seat. “Prom started at eight o’ clock. Your clock is fast, right?”
Soul sighed. “Calm down, Kid. Ever heard of being fashionably late? It’s cool.”
“I don’t see what’s ‘cool’ about being late.”
“Yep, that checks out.”
“Frankly, I don’t need somebody who wears Air Jordans to a formal event lecturing me on what’s ‘cool’ and what isn’t.”
“Both of you please shut up.” Maka swerved into a free space at the end of the lot and the jolt, thankfully, quieted the bickering men.
Black Star and Tsubaki stood outside the entrance and greeted the group when they arrived, by leaping up and down and waving, respectively. Soul ran ahead and ended up in a headlock, his friend shaking him around like a dog with a toy. Maka chuckled under her breath. Black Star was Soul’s reason for showing up at the micro-event. Neither of them could miss such a cool, super-cool gathering of coolness.
As soon as Maka stepped inside, she was snow-blind. Had Lord Death decided on ‘the color white’ as the theme? White streamers, white paper lining the floor, and was that a cutout of a polar bear in the corner? It had to be. The disappointment that hit Maka did not seem to affect Soul and Black Star in the slightest. Both of them trotted off to explore. Tsubaki, now separate from her friend, crept up to Maka.
“Hi, Maka.”
“Hi, Tsubaki! How did getting Black Star up here go?”
“He tried to wear one of those dollar sign necklaces. He… has a sense of style!”
Maka grimaced. “He sure has one.”
“Crona is already here, by the way. I saw them in the window while we were waiting for you.”
Maka would have been content staying at home studying the whole night. Crona was her reason to go. Prom was nothing more than an excuse to see the people you adore, after all, and the more time she spent with them, the more her affection grew.
“Really? Where are they?”
“Over there.”
Tsubaki pointed to what appeared to be a snack bar. Crona stood crooked beside a wide punch bowl, observing the dancers on the floor. Tsubaki giggled and threw Maka back to the present. She had been staring.
“Tsubaki, look at them. Look at their bowtie. They’re so cute, I’m… my hands are so sweaty. Ew.” She laughed to herself.
“They really do look nice. You go talk to them. I’m going to say hello to Liz and Patti.”
“Got it. Wish me luck.”
“Good luck! You’ll do just fine.”
Crona spotted Maka after she was already speeding toward them. They jolted and offered an awkward wave hello.
“Crona! Hi! Is it okay if I give you a hug?”
“Oh! Th– that’s fine!”
Maka threw her arms around them in a bear hug. She wasn’t sure if the lavender smell on them was the work of false fragrance or a real plant in their pocket, but she loved it all the same. Their jacket itself was soft. Very soft. She buried her forehead into their shoulder.
“It’s so good to see you!”
“It’s good to see you, too. I, uh… missed you.”
“God, you see her all the time. You saw her two days ago, dumbass.”
Maka forced a smile. “Hi, Ragnarok.”
“Ignore him,” Crona whispered. “Do you like the decorations? It was mostly Marie and me setting them up.”
“They’re nice. I’m, uh… not sure I understand the theme.”
Crona lit up and snatched a solo cup from the table beside them. They filled it with the punch and handed it to Maka.
“Try it. It’ll make sense, I promise.”
“...Oh, it’s coca-cola.”
Crona pointed to the cutout of the polar bear. Up close, Maka could see that someone had draped a scarf around its shoulders.
“Oh my God, is the prom coca-cola bear themed?”
They nodded vigorously. “Marie came up with it after Lord Death bought nothing but white decorations.”
“That’s adorable! I… don’t think anybody’s going to get it, though.”
“Yeah. That’s why I’m over here, so I can explain it to anyone who doesn’t know.”
Maka squinted. “Your plan is to be over here, pouring soda for everyone the whole time?”
“Um… yes?”
“Are you sure you wouldn’t rather tag along with me instead?”
Maka saw Crona begin to blush. The abundance of black blood let off a gray color instead of the typical red. Crona looked back and forth; the confidence that they once held had evaporated into the stuffy room.
“Are you sure that I wouldn’t bother you, or anything?”
“Of course you wouldn’t bother me. Actually, I’d really like to spend time with you.”
Crona agreed, thankfully, because Maka’s face burnt and she was not entirely sure what she would say if they had any other doubts. Together they said hello to the chaperones – Marie, Sid, Stein, and Naigus, each of them commenting on the secret theme and Crona’s involvement – and bounced between Tsubaki’s group and the snack bar. Despite the attractions and the people to spend time with, Maka’s attention remained consistently fixed upon Crona.
They had been engaged in this routine for an hour until the dj’s cacophonous dance music was abruptly replaced by some 80s love ballad that Maka couldn’t remember the name of. From the snack bar, they watched groups break off into pairs or cluster at the back of the room.
“The music’s quieter now,” noted Crona.
“Yeah. It’s so that everyone who brought a date can, well… have their date. It’s the whole reason couples come here, anyway.”
“Oh.”
She took a deep breath and wiped her palms onto her dress. “Do you want to dance with me, Crona?”
Crona froze, their mouth open, a small pretzel still in their hand. “Are you- are you sure that you want to? With me? I - I’ve never really done this before and I don’t want to ruin–”
“I’m sure. I’ve kind of been hoping that I’d get to dance with you since I got here.”
Crona’s whole face bore smudges of gray, like charcoal. They scratched the back of their neck and, with great care, held out their hand for Maka. She took it.
“Awh, your hands are sweaty, too!”
“Oh. Sorry.”
“No, it’s okay! I don’t mind, I promise.”
After a few failed attempts at a traditional dance, the pair decided that the best course of action would be to follow the precedent set by the other couples and rock back and forth holding each other. Maka could hear Crona’s heartbeat even over the music. Every once in a while they asked for some form of confirmation – was Maka comfortable, was she still okay with it, and so on – and each time, she reassured them.
“I’ve been having a really good time with you,” she whispered during the song’s closing solo.
“Yeah. This is really nice… thank you for dancing with me, Maka.”
“Mhm! Like I said, I really wanted to.”
Crona just smiled and pulled Maka closer. What was once a loud growl of dozens of people talking throughout the room had died down to a distant humming. She could focus on them, their texture, their smell, everything. Nobody else existed.
The song changed from classic rock back to modern pop and the roar started up again. Maka looked around at the groups of friends reclaiming the dance floor, and among them, she spotted Black Star and Soul dancing – perhaps they thought that they were on fire and they were flailing in fear. That would explain quite a bit.
“These idiots,” she scoffed.
“Hey, Casanova,” Ragnarok sneered, “Why don’t you take your lady friend upstairs?”
“Oh, no, they said not to go up there.”
“Come on, I’m trying to do you a favor here!”
“Ragnarok, shut the fuck up.” Maka looked from the vile little ghoulie back to Crona. “What’s upstairs?”
“Oh, it’s just the roof. Marie said not to let anyone up there because someone could fall.”
She side-eyed Black Star, who was doing some sort of dance that involved clenching his hands into fists and wiggling his arms very very fast. “Did she name any names?”
Crona seemed to see, too. They winced. “I guess that rule was probably for him. It’s so loud in here… we can go up there, if you want. So we can hear each other better. I don’t think that would be against the rules.”
They snuck through the stairwell door after Crona revealed its location – obscured behind one of the bear cutouts. Outside, nothing could be heard of the party except for a muffled beat. Nothing could be felt except for a cool night breeze. Against the horizon, turbines whirred valiantly in the darkness. Both of them sat down side by side in the middle of the roof.
“This is much better,” sighed Maka.
“Mm.”
“Are you okay?”
“Just happy. This past…well, everything has been really nice. Thanks for hanging out with me, Maka.”
“Of course. You don’t have to keep thanking me.” She grinned and nudged their shoulder.
“Sorry. Habit. I just don’t know how to say it. Being with you at the DWMA has been… I’ve been happy. Especially because of you. You’re amazing. I really… I really like you.”
“I really like you, too. You’re one of the bravest people I know.” She was smiling. Her face hurt from it. “Hey. Crona. Look at me, okay?”
“Hm?”
Maka leaned in. She waited, in case Crona wanted to pull away, and when they only leaned closer she held their jawline and kissed them. A second later it was over, and she was staring into their eyes again. Those eyes sparkled like lightning in the desert.
“Hi.” They said after a sizeable trail of stammering.
She giggled. “Hi.”
For a time – there was no way to be certain whether it was minutes or hours – Maka leaned against their shoulder and the two of them spoke in whispers while they looked at the stars. The kiss seemed to give Crona a second wind of courage and they had their free arm caressing Maka’s.
“The others and I are going to go to my place after this and watch a movie,” she said. “I’d really like it if you came.”
“Are you sure they wouldn’t mind?”
“Are you kidding? They all like you. Even Kid.”
“Mm.” They smiled. “I’ll come with you, then.”
A coyote cried out somewhere in the distance.
“All of this really has been great. Even the shitty music and the coke bear theme.”
“Your lips tasted like coke when you kissed me.”
Maka laughed. “Well, there’s worse things, I guess.”
It was almost midnight when Soul and Black Star lost their energy at the dance. They were some of the last to leave apart from the chaperones themselves. What this meant was a lot of barefoot waiting in the car for Maka, Crona, Kid, Liz, and Patty.
“Okay, we’ve gotten through… fourteen songs waiting,” sighed Liz. “Any requests for the fifteenth?”
“I don’t think I know any more songs,” said Crona.
“Really? That’s tragic. Liz, play something classic,” Kid ordered.
“Classic or classical? I can never tell with you.”
“Wait, hold on!” Maka gripped the steering wheel. “Here he comes!”
Soul walked across the parking lot, his tie undone and his shoelaces spilling over the pavement. He was a mess. He staggered to the shotgun door and opened it, only noticing too late how it was occupied.
“What? Crona? Huh. Would you mind moving over?”
“Sorry, Soul. You snooze, you lose.” Maka smiled. “You’ll just have to sit somewhere else.”
“Wh–? There’s no more seats. Where am I going to sit?”
“Well, there’s always the trunk.”

can you talk more/explain the p2 grooming dynamics i feel like i get it but dont at the same time
omg yes cuz i legit love discussing those kind of dynamics im just rlly bad at like putting all my thoughts together into words so it might b messy and missing a lot
but like STRICTLY in a non RPF view, pete is a 20/21 year old who meets this 16 year old who autism his way into a friendship with joe. He is auditioning to be in a band with the two of them and Pete, for some reason, has vivid recollection of the outfit he wore that day. Sees this kid play the drums and somehow bullies the kid into singing for him. Patrick is very firm that he does not sing, doesn’t feel comfortable with being the singer and wants to be the drummer. But somehow pete is able to convince this poor insecure kid into being the frontman (kinda) and even gifts him a hat to help with his uneasiness of being front and centre.
Their friendship is filled with stories and little details about how Pete would behave quite inappropriately with Patrick, (who he met as a teenager and was just a young adult) like making several lj posts where he jokes about loving patrick, wanting to have sex and all the stuff teenage boys like to joke with each other. In other posts, he likes to baby patrick, treating him like this little child who was dropped upon their hands for pete to care for. (very weird switch between dynamics) They have lots of fights that are physical and even live together for a bit where there is also a lot of insane stories abt (pete just being generally gross and the infamous peep hole door thing)
I think something extremely telling is the song Saturday, a song Patrick wrote for himself and kinda didn’t want on the album but the group needed another song. The song is about feeling like a failure, graduating high school and how scared he was. The song has two verses where he mentions him and pete. (as pete was a dropout college student) I can’t even put into words how crazy it is for a high school kid to be writing about being scared about the future with his grown adult friend but anyways.
Patrick becomes a very important person in Pete’s life and very quickly. From being Pete’s golden boy to his best friend. He shares entries about how he suffers from insomnia and when he does, he calls patrick to hear him sing. He convinces patrick’s mom to allow him to go on these tours that require him to spend months in a crappy van, where they would also attend parties and sleep with girls for a place to stay. Patrick even shares a story where he felt himself connecting with a girl when pete came over and interrupted their conversation, making the girl guess both of their ages. He proceeded to then dogpile on patrick and literally just embarrass him, ending with the girl hugging patrick and telling him that his bassist is cute, again typical behaviour of teenagers. But it’s even more like eyebrow raising when you remember Pete isn’t a teenager. He would be close to mid twenties during this.
Even to this day, the way pete talks about patrick is like so intense and deep, saying he would think about his life before patrick and cry. That his lyrics don’t make sense until he hears it come out of patrick’s mouth. Patrick has even gone to say that he felt like his life purpose was to be a messenger for pete, that he couldn’t write his own lyrics because he needed pete’s lyrical style. These are both men who literally have wives and kids!!!
There’s even a story that Patrick skipped his own prom to play a show, which for Patrick prob felt like the coolest thing in the world. But essentially the band stuff was basically becoming Patrick’s whole life, the time he wasn’t at school was spent working on their music, practicing, playing shows. Who wouldn’t feel burnt out, depressed and like their life was hurling towards failure.
I think people put too much emphasis that it’s typically rpf people making these comments to realize that grooming isn’t entirely sexual/romantic. The pure definition of grooming is just gaining a minor’s trust and friendship to exploit, abuse, manipulate or use them. People like to ignore that pete wentz is a literal groomer, having dated literal teenagers in his twenties, have been called extremely manipulative and had some of the most toxic relationships ever. Even if patrick speaks extremely fondly of their friendship, the behaviour and actions shown by pete are pretty concerning and also like eyebrow raising as someone who has dealt with A LOT of groomers. (Haters will say i’m projecting)
Sorry if this is super rambling and kinda nonsensical at parts, i’m like barely awake and currently on a bus LOL but like tbh i could be entirely projecting so like maybe take this very lightly

lately i just can’t get the idea of neil and eva at their high school prom (they left early and went to get greasy fast food tbh but this was like, before then) dancing the cupid shuffle in their embarrassing prom outfits. neil probably used his summer job money to buy a cravat because he wanted to feel fancy. eva is wearing a too-frilly hand me down dress from her sister and she can’t do her eyeliner for shit.
you have any random teenage neil and eva headcanons?
BWAHH THAT'S SO CUTE,,, eva w/ a super elaborately poofy dress she got from traci is so cute. AND NEIL PUTTING HIS ENTIRE SAVINGS INTO A CRAVAT...SOBS
gosh in terms of my headcanons... the easiest way to do this would probably be a bullet list
after IF, everything i really thought about their dynamic was totally flipped on its head. especially for their teenage years.
before i thought neil was the effortlessly smart one while eva studied 24/7, but now i see it the other way around (tho that's basically canon)
eva was a whole lot more bubbly growing up! maybe not extroverted, but i think she only started closing herself off after joining sigcorp (can you blame her?)
i think neil's always had lynri's cold wit, but he only adopted the more loud and snarky personality in adulthood. perhaps it had something to do with cheering up eva...
in terms of prom i feel like...neither of them would care all too much? i think they'd go together just to be able to say they went lmao.
i also think they'd go as friends and genuinely mean that, something tells me the whole feelings tango didn't start until they had jobs lmao (as much as i love the idea of neil just. pining for 20 years)
quincy would probably annoy neil about it. not a lot, he respects their friendship ofc, and appreciates eva for sticking with neil more than anything, but still. it's easy teasing territory
i read a fic one time where neil went to prom in a tuxedo tshirt. no matter what i can't shake that image from my mind so it's real to me
as you said, eva'd wear a super elaborate hand-me-down. i think traci would also do her hair all fancy. basically she's all dolled up and doesn't care to fight against it
they'd go and then sneak out the second the slow dance starts. maybe they'd get frozen yogurt afterwards or something
this one seems random but i need it to add context: during the wedding in IF there's a couple of sillhouetted figures. these could be eva's family but...why wouldn't neil remember them? ofc the simple answer is that freebird didn't want to sprite characters who appear once like that but...idk it strikes me as odd
that leads me to believe that neil's never really been around eva's family growing up, or even her house. they always wordlessly go to his place to hang out. idk but i'll throw that thought out to u guys
so anyways all that's just a really long way to say that i think they'd go back to neil's. maybe quincy left them some premade food knowing they'd probably ditch early
beyond prom uhh... despite what a lot of the fandom thinks, i feel like they went to different colleges/universities after graduating
i have some thoughts on how they met again but i'm planning on illustrating those some day, so mayhaps i will stay quiet for now
anyways whoosh ^^; enjoy the thought dump!! and thank u for the ask!! i always love endlessly rambling about these two, and i love hearing other people do that even more! i rlly do think there's something so fun abt the fact that everyone in this fandom has totally different readings on their lives

5. mick. now that one MIGHT actually be bc of his personality. that and i have this weird compulsion to be loyal to the schumachers. thank my dad for it. we don’t have any shirtless pics but i just KNOW i’d be all over him
6. lewis. i’m pretty sure some people want my head for not putting him on #1 but ehh i can live with it. drop ur skincare routine king. his outfits are 🤌🏼 and his happy little smile is just 🥺 i hope i’m making myself clear here that sometimes i just wanna be a bottom
7. fernando. yes i have daddy issues. yes i made my bestie almost choke when i told them i’d want nando to rail me real good. again the spanish accent. he could read me his grocery list and i’d be turned on. i seem to have it in for the spaniards.
8. sebastian. i get it i get it. he’s not necessarily attractive in that sense. but y’all need to stop being so mean to this delightful man. listen he’s a great person and at best times he looks like a teddy bear. also might i remind u of this mans MAGNIFICENT tits? yes i want him to adopt me even if he’s only 13 years older and in no way at the right age to be my dad. everyone fuck off.
9. max. OKAY IM SORRY PUT UR PITCHFORKS DOWN. he’s ugly. i have to say it. that doesn’t mean i don’t want him to fuck my brains out. ugly people need rights too

11. checo. i have SEVERE daddy issues. quite obviously. knock me up checo
12. george. he looks like a tory but those pics in the merc suit. hot damn
13. antonio. gio baby cut ur hair and you’d be so much higher on this list
14. yuki. i’m pretty indifferent to him tbh. he’s cute and he’s younger and shorter than me and that’s that
15. lando. i can’t believe he’s the least bad of the rest of those. unfortunately i know he’s FUCKING hung so,,,i want that. give it to me. put a paper bag over his head and a gag into his mouth and we’ll be good to go. maybe tie him up so he doesn’t get too ahead of himself
16. lance? i’m not sure at this point anymore. i like the rich bitch energy somehow but something about him unnerves me. also i heard him speak french once and wanted to chop off my ears that rlly scarred me. was hotter with the longer hair, at the moment he reminds me of my 8th grade prom date and that is not someone i want to remember
17. este. he’s,,,,fine? so awkward. idk man something puts me off
18. valtteri. just no
19. kimi. retire. im not asking anymore
20. egg. this needs no further explanation

i took like 5 benadryl to help me get sleepy so now i’m getting those Sleepytime Images and i knew i’d need to share this one w u bc it involves ur epic girlboss giselle so here we go:
i kno u mentioned how toriel and giselle have a very tense relationship and how kris and berdly dating Might pose some problems for giselle so just. imagine if you will. kris and berdly decide to go to the sadie hawkmans dance (or prom or whatever big dance of ur choice) like As A Thing. not just as friends but like. yknow. Going Together. and giselle’s happy on one hand bc ohhh her little boy is growing up he has a date!!!!! but on the other hand she’s like ah fuck. now i ACTUALLY have to talk to toriel (not for like. permission or anything. but esp w a big dance u gotta like coordinate outfits and meeting times and who’s taking pictures at What House—idk i went to prom alone but i remember this being a thing for a lot of my friends in relationships)
so she decides to be the mature adult abt things and invites toriel and kris over to her house for dinner (w berdly there of course). and Oh My God does it go poorly. shit is just AWKWARD right off the bat like giselle will try a joke and it just Does Not Land w toriel and so she just has to laugh it off while thinking “jesus christ is this how asgore feels???” like idk i don’t think toriel holds active animosity but i’m sure whatever lore u have for them both means toriel isn’t giselle’s biggest fan. esp w seeing berdly being so emotionally shut-in and independent. and it’s awkward for berdly and kris too bc they want this dinner to Work bc they want their parents to Like Each Other so things aren’t Weird but they’re also not rlly sure how to help??? and also they’re just nervous in general bc now the parent of their partner is here in the room w them so they both must be on their best behavior
this is mostly bc i’m picturing a dinner scene a la shrek 2 and i think it is so real it hurts. it’s made even better by the thought that giselle is probably so not used to cooking big meals since she mostly orders out (or berdly cooks for himself—he’s actually pretty good) so the cooking scene is a nightmare and it rlly colors the dinner scene So Well. by the end of the night things do get better tho. i think giselle and toriel sit w wine while the two kids play video games in berdlys room and they talk abt life and being single moms and giselle gets like. rlly honest?? which is New for her. and toriel can tell she means well and rlly is taking big leaps in being a strong presence in berdlys life so they forge a kind of bond. maybe a friendship! maybe not. up to u honestly it’s ur character i just like playing in the space and had to share :-)
eating a salad rn and the shrek 2 bit made me inhale a piece of lettuce because every time i think of that scene i think about this specifically now
so i was just imagining giselle spinning around in her office chair - that she for some bizarre reason decided to bring to the dinner table instead of sitting in a normal chair - while toriel glares daggers and kris and berdly watch in awkward silence. and it killed me
ANYWAY IT'S FUNNY YOU BRING THIS UP because i was actually thinking about the same scenario. berdly actually didn't tell giselle he was going to the dance with kris as a Date at first, because just. habit of not talking to her about important things. and then he belatedly remembers they're on better terms so he tells her, awkwardly, and he's like BUT YOU DON'T NEED TO MAKE A BIG DEAL OUT OF IT OR ANYTHING, it's just a silly little dance.
much to his despair, giselle does make a big deal about it and she's like pestering him with questions about what he's going to wear, what kris is going to wear, are you two coordinating??? you two better be coordinating-- by this point she's known they were dating but if they're serious enough to go to the dance together, aka something that is really not up either of their alleys AT ALL,
maybe she should do that thing she's been putting off for a while now. talking to toriel. establishing just a bit of common ground with her. and so Dinner
toriel doesn't hold active animosity at all !! it's more so something giselle has fostered like - SHE responded to toriel with unnecessary hostility and toriel was like ok that's the game we're playing...?? basically toriel reached out to her a long time ago, when berdly was in her elementary class, because she had concerns about giselle's parenting and was worried she was letting work eat up too much of her time. stuff like giselle always being the last parent to come pick up berdly after school, berdly's marked aversion to joining the other kids in play, etc.
giselle's kind of a young mom? i guess if berdly is like 15-16 she's like... 34. so when this confrontation happened, she was still quite the hotheaded, spunky youngster (she's mellowed out a lot now). and she didn't take kindly to toriel's "overstepping" and kind of. blew up. "berdly is an incredibly capable child and does not need me smothering him the way YOU smother your own children."
yeah idk it's basically a butting of heads over parenting styles. toriel believes a child needs constant nurturing, and giselle believes a child needs Room to grow and needs the space to do their own thing. both of them take their respective approaches too far - toriel IS in fact smothering, and giselle is too distant. toriel has always been more mature than giselle and has been open to reconciliation from day one, if giselle will bow her head and take the steps to pursue it. which she hasn't been humble enough to do Until Now
the dinner is a bit of a mess. giselle is not a good cook and underestimates how long food takes to cook, so kris and toriel arrive a long time before anything is ready. berdly is Trying to help. he's begging her to let him help because she's so bad at this it's painful to watch. she keeps shooing him away - "i'm being a mom right now okay?! I'M going to cook for YOU." and once kris gets there she bans him from the kitchen entirely ("what is kris going to think? go spend time with them!")
i was thinking toriel actually helps her finish dinner instead ^^ which eases some of the tension and makes it easier for them to connect a bit later, when the kids aren't present. because when a teenager feels awkward they have this special power of making everyone else in the room feel 10x more awkward than they do. it's painful to sit through and berdly and kris eat as fast as physically possible and excuse themselves and i really do like the idea of toriel and giselle sitting together over a glass of wine or two... they'll never be besties but they have the potential to become decent friends once giselle sets some of her fiery pride aside :)

my random kingdom keepers hc’s
⚠️ maybe spoilers & some may not be cannon ⚠️
finn
* his mom taught him to cook, so now he makes full course meals for the group.
* wanted to do the matching group outfits at disney but everyone else (except for willa) said no. he managed to convince amanda to do matching couples outfits for a date once.
* sits in his room and blasts music rlly loud when he’s upset. the music is one direction or taylor swift.
* is going to university of central floridia with a major in hospitality management or business.
* the embarrassing boyfriend (and friend) that will go to any event and scream and yell. like amanda could be presenting something and here comes finn: “THAT’S MY GIRLFRIEND!!” and tbh willa would join him.
* usually just wears a t-shirt and jeans, but when he needs to dress up, he will 110%. he’s the one the girls call when they need outfit advice.
amanda
* she was the one who chose eli’s name (kingdom kids!). she also let finn try to choose his middle name but he got stuck between wayne or dillard for weeks.
* kind of a beachy outfit/vibe. i feel like she wears a lot of hoodies with shorts and flip flops.
* likes to wear her hair in all different styles. one day it would be normal, then braids, then space buns, then it’s suddenly curly??
* usually tries to keep her emotions pretty chill, but if you try and bully her friends, she will loose it. try flirting with finn and see what happens.
* tried getting a tattoo of one of jess’ drawings once, but the thought of the needle made her turn right around.
* if she doesn’t want to be bothered, she just flips you off. deep into a book? middle finger. concentrating on schoolwork? there it is.
jess
* has a gc with maybeck called “art hoes” where they talk about drawing, sculpting, etc.
* the type of aunt that gets her nieces/nephews/other really weird and kind of dangerous gifts. like: “where did you get that?!” “oh, from aunt jess.” “of course you did.”
* got a pair of doc martens as a gift and wore them to disney for an entire day for “the aesthetic” even though she complained about her feet hurting the entire time.
* also the type to wear long-sleeves and turtlenecks under shirts in 100° weather.
* probably did the kool-aid hair dye trend in middle school and kinda regretted it.
* every time she would walk into a room someone would blast the “that’s so raven” theme song on repeat.
charlene
* tries to volunteer every weekend either at crazy glaze to spend time with maybeck or coaching a little kid’s cheer squad.
* has an amazingly good memory for really random things. like, “you can’t wear that, you wore it to disney springs last time we went.” “that was three months ago how???”
* i feel like she’s a really good baker. brownies, cakes, you name it. she leaves the cookie baking to mrs. whitman though.
* also a really good listener. would 10/10 be the group’s therapist. whatever time of day (and night) you need to talk or vent, she will pick up the phone immediately.
* maybeck sculpted her a vase with cinderella castle and fireworks on it years ago and she adores it to this day. it sits on her nightstand and is slightly faded but she doesn’t care.
* buys her friends cute things that remind her of them. she’s bought willa, jess, amanda, and herself matching necklaces and bought the boys disney pins with mickey, donald, and goofy on them.
maybeck
* had professional headshots done just because. “maybeck where are you we have an OT problem!” and he’s like, “one sec, getting my headshots done and i’ll meet you there” and they’re all “????”
* you have to drag him to go clothes shopping but then he never wants to leave and does a fashion show with each and every item he bought.
* somehow looks good in every picture? it could be blurry, from a terrible angle, and everyone else looks rlly bad, but then there’s maybeck.
* loves meeting characters. he will flip if he sees a character he really loves. “IS THAT REMY THE ***** RAT! CHARLENE WE NEED TO TAKE A PICTURE!”
* one of those people that says “me” in deep voice to everything. sees a kid trip and fall onto the ground “ME” “maybeck stop”.
* has picked up a few gymnastics tricks from charlene and will do them randomly. like, *backflips away from OT* “when did he learn that???”
willa
* 90% of her clothes are button down shirts with college pull overs and converse. she doesn’t care how warm it is.
* somehow always has a book on her. they could be in line at a park and she just pulls a book out of thin air and starts reading.
* had a harry potter phase growing up that everyone joked about. “willa you can’t that’s UNIVERSAL! you dare betray walt disney like this?!”
* for one of their anniversaries, philby buys her a new bear, this time a duffy bear, to replace mr. totems and she almost cries. every anniversary one of his gifts is a new outfit for duffy.
* goes to university of florida with philby. she’s an english language and literature major and loves going on study dates.
philby
* studying computer science at the university of florida.
* wears flannels, hoodies, or t-shirts that have really bad science-themed puns on them everyone loathes (which is mostly why he wears it).
* wants to adopt or foster tons of cats when he’s older. he was so upset he couldn’t take elvis to college.
* either listens to disney music or 80s/90s hits. there is no in-between.
* the designated bag holder while in the parks. he always has everything you could possibly need. sunscreen, bandaids, mints, hairbrushes, pencil and paper (if jess has a dream), snacks of all sizes, he’s got it all.
* super bad dancer and loves to embarrass willa. prom was just philby dancing in the middle of the dance floor terribly while willa watched shaking her head.

Princess Prom—The Entire Class
I DID IT—
Tumblr media
THIS TOOK SO LONG TO FUCKING DO
IM SO PROUD OF THIS— my kids are ready to party. Kim and Lila look like they’re about to walk into a club together, they’re fabulous.
Also Here they are without the lighting:
Tumblr media
You can skip this vv but I’m basically just gonna go in depth about the designs:
Marinette: The two things I wanted in her design was apple blossoms and pink. Something rlly different from Ladybug
Adrien: He looks like he’s supposed to look like Chat Noir but he’s just not there yet, which is the point. His mask is red for Ladybug.
Alya: Lady WiFi Lady WiFi Lady WiFi— why does her boots reach her fucking knees?-
Nino: Nino’s got a bubbler mask, and a teal shirt, tried to make him look kinda messy but at least in some kind of an attempt and fancies
Chloe: I feel like I could’ve done better with this design buuuuuut I still like it, something simple.
Sabrina: White mask for Vanisher, and a little dress to match her eyes and normal shorts in her civilian form.
Alix: OKAY- Her hair is slicked back, I turned her side ponytail into a normal ponytail, and I gave her the Timebreaker color palette. She’s wearing heelies. It’s a special occasion so she wore piercings.
Rose: Kinda looks like Marinette’s dress, she’s got a purple rose in her hair, a small curve on her mask like Princess Fragrance, and she’s also got cat.. stockings? Socks? Whatever.
Juleka: Didn’t go full goth, wanted to put more purple into her design Ivan: This is probably the only nice thing he has to wear, very earthy tones.
Mylene: I’m a little disappointed with this design but it’s fine, it’s cute, not horrificator enough though unfortunately  Max: Green looks good on Max
Kim: HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH DRESS!! DARK CUPID TUXEDO? NOPE- WHAT A LAD! It was one of the first things I sketched for this. I’m so glad we decided he’d wear a dress
Lila: FUCKING QUEEN- Lila is terribly fun to draw. I was inspired by Double Trouble’s outfit in Princess Prom (you can see them in the background), gave her the volpina mask and a feather boa. At first it was just a white boa but I decided to go wild and give her a peacock lookin one?? She ain’t getting the peacock but I thought it looked good on her.
Nathaniel: I gave him the evillustrator mask and shirt, and I bet he wants to go home.
Aurore: Was gonna throw her in a dress but that would’ve been boring so I decided to throw her in a tux. Cause fuck gender roles SHES A QUEEN EITHER WAY. Blue looked too good on her to change it to purple Stormy weather, but the mask shape is Stormy inspired

Hi Sarah! I re-listened to Alessia Cara's older albums yesterday (to refresh upon the lyrical content & the sonic influence) and I'd say that my favourite Alessia album is definitely In The Meantime!
I also hope to listen to the entire album in more detail but I particularly enjoyed the way Alessia experimented with various sonic elements as well as the way she conveys emotional vulnerabilities (both the heavy and lighthearted moments) through the songs :D Listening to In The Meantime in full had been a very soothing experience!
So my ranking of her albums goes like: In The Meantime > Know-It-All > The Pains of Growing. Though her older albums are also solid 💖 What about you?
ooh yes!! The theory about the parallel between Maisies' YSUFT and Olivia's driver's license is pretty interesting!! I also noticed visual parallels amongst Maisie and Olivia's music videos (e.g. the cheerleader scenes and the prom dress).
What are your favourite scenes / outfits in Maisie and Olivia's music videos?
P.S. It's really unbelievable that 2021 went by so quickly!! Based on the song titles, which Red Vault Track are you most excited of listening to?
Same! I also love that she's not afraid to talk about mental health struggles! I first noticed that in her previous album but I love that her newest one really talks abt that topic in-depth 🤗
very valid! my favorite Alessia album will probably always remain The Pains of Growing because it dropped right when I needed it, so for me it would be The Pains of Growing > In the Meantime > Know-It-All! I also have recently become obsessed with her This Summer EP!
ohhh yes, true! now I am very tempted to gif these music video parallels agkskgs my favorite Olivia music video scene is the bridge in the drivers license video! I really love that shot of her hanging out of the car and I love the flashbacks! my favorite outfit of hers in a music video is probably the cheerleader one in good 4 u or her pink outfit in deja vu! with maisie, I think my favorite scene is the end scene of the psycho music video, I still crack up when she says "just writing my silly little songs" amgsmgd and my fav outfit is the leather jacket look in John Hughes movie!! What abt u??
omg I literally just today noticed/thought abt how RED tv comes out in just about a month now! 😳 I'm rlly excited abt Nothing New because of the Lover diary entry & Forever Winter sounds like my next fav sad song! 😌 What abt u?? ☺️ And which collab are u most excited for? ☺️

Can I ask what happened in freak show? Idk my friend said it was good so I was gonna check it out but you mentioned hate crimes?????????
ok so maybe i have some personal baggage going into this movie but here’s my rundown:
• gay teen moves him with his dad in red state connecticut (his parents are divorced and his mother is his favorite, this is important later)
• he dresses up for school, full hair and makeup and his dads housekeeper tells him that he should change bc of where they live
• he gets called like several shades of homophobic comments on the first day bc of how he dresses
• the are multiple scenes of teachers refusing to help with the bullying or contributing to it
• he keeps amping up the outfits, culminating in a full bridal gown with full makeup
• (tw hate crime) he is then cornered in the music room by like eight guys and he’s beat into a coma, this scene goes on for like five minutes and it’s very graphic
• one of his only friends at this school vists him in the hospital and convinces him to “dress straight” at school, you later find out this friend had beat up some of the hate crime bullies and all the guys who beat up the main guy were expelled, this is the last they are mentioned
• the entire school is nice to him for a few days after he returns bc he’s still in a wheelchair and the school doesn’t want to be sued, this is the extent of the schools niceness to him
• his mother comes home to visit and he finds out she never wanted him, doesn’t really like him, and dumped him off on his dad so she could travel
• he then climbs the school building like he’s going to jump? (this part i wasn’t rlly paying attention tbh) and sees the popular girl announcing her run for prom queen on thr news
• he screams that he’s going to run too from the top of the building as prom queen and “gender oblivitor”
• the second half of the movie is his run from prom queen and how his group of thr outsider at this prep school are reclaiming “freak”, this parts kinda boring but like every couple minutes somebody says smth rlly homophobic just to like remind u nobody likes the main ch
• then the prom queen runners (super religious girl and main ch) have to give speeches to get the votes and the religious girl gives is just gross, several homophobic/transphobic comments, and then the main chr goes and his thing is about how “everybody is a freak” and “a vote for me is a vote for everybody” type deal, the movie really leans into him winning this
• he doesn’t!
• his dad shows up and tells the main kid he loves him and it’s a big moment or whatever
• the big statement at the end of the movie from the religious girls best friend is “she had my vote but you had my heart” which fine whatever
• so the movie ends with everybody who isn’t part of the main chrs friend group tolerating the main ch, the movie ends with some jock guy like high fiveing him and that like the pinnacle of him being accepted into this school but they still like think how he dresses is weird and comment on that?
last thing, just like at any point there is homophobic slurs/comments, i think i got most of them but it’s constant
so long story short i walked away with this movie thinking thr grand message it was sending was: despite all the ambition you have the best you have hope for is being seen as a joke or even better no violent hate crimes being committed to you

Hellu have you done prom!haikyuu hcs???
Hello! I have not! But I’d be glad to do a few for you here!
I’ll be focusing on Karasuno, but if you’d like to see other schools, then I’d be happy to post again!
Sawamura Daichi
-Asked out his date with a super cute sign and gift that was related to volleyball
-He was too shocked to properly greet his date when he first saw him/her in their prom outfit (stuttering, blushing, mouth dropping open, etc)
-Was a true gentleman from the beginning
-Had to help Asahi with his tie, bc Asahi got super nervous
-He and his date had a lot of fun at prom, bc they were friends already and took plenty of funny pictures
-Took his date out for a late night fast food run afterwards
-If his date wasn’t already dating him, they sure would be now!
Sugawara Koushi
-Did a whole event for his promposal, music, lights, got the volleyball team to hold up signs, everything :D
-Was gorgeous in a nontraditional color suit (anything besides navy blue, black, grey) (honestly probably went with a pastel blue or something with a mild pattern)
-Took way too many pictures of his date bc “they were so pretty he had to have pictures so he could look at them over and over again”
-Pretended not to be nervous, but was super shy when he asked his date to slow dance
-Dropped his date off at home and kissed him/her goodnight, which made them both blush (cuties!!)
Azumane Asahi
-Tried to do a promposal like Daichi, but he was so nervous he never actually got the words out. His date understood though and agreed to go with him, which made Asahi’s brain short out
-Asahi had trouble finding a suit bc the shop owners kept directing him to the more expensive sections, assuming he was in his twenties
-Showed up with a gorgeous corsage/boutonniere for his date
-He had to squat down for pictures, bc he’s so darn tall
-Kept tripping over his feet when he tried to dance, but thankfully, his date thought it was super cute
-Too shy to properly kiss his date goodbye, so he pecked them on the cheek and left quickly
-His date’s parents were confused when he brought their son/daughter home, bc they were like.... isn’t like 23??
Nishinoya Yuu
-Wore a very brightly colored suit to prom (but it suited him, somehow)
-Asked out his date super randomly one day during a break (just like blurted it out cheerfully)
-Wore a bowtie instead of a normal tie
-Ate all the food that was available at prom
-Did his best to dance with his date, but Nishinoya isn’t the most coordinated when outside of volleyball
-Had to be reminded by Suga to buy a corsage/boutonniere (which he did, an hour before he met his date)
Tanaka Ryuunosuke
-Got super shy when asking out his date (he asked Kiyoko, but she turned him down, so he went to his next choice, who said yes)
-Couldn’t for the life of him figure out how to tie a tie, so he panic called Suga to help him
-Couldn’t do his “tough boy” pose in his suit, so he held his date’s hand and blushed the entire time
-Accidentally bought the wrong thing for his date (bought his male date a corsage/female date a boutonniere), but his date was happy anyway and wore it
-Saeko tried to help him by driving him and his date to prom, but that turned out badly, bc we all know how good of a driver she is
-His date just laughed though, and thanked them both
Ennoshita Chikara
-Had the typical prom experience
-There wasn’t anyone in particular he wanted to ask, so he went with a friend and had a nice time
-Took his date out to dinner before prom
-While at prom, he made sure to keep an eye on Nishinoya and Tanaka, to make sure they didn’t get into trouble
-Is a really good slow dancer :0
Kageyama Tobio
-Didn’t want to go to prom, but was persuaded by Hinata to go with him and his friends
-He and Hinata went suit shopping together
-Was asked to prom by other people (Kageyama rlly doesn’t understand why so many people are interested in him) but he turned them all down and just awkwardly third wheeled with Hinata and his date
-Was disappointed there was no milk available at prom
-He’s really good looking in a suit, but he swore he would never wear one again (bc his gym clothes/sweats are so much more comfortable)
-Caught the attention of too many people while at prom (much to his surprise)
Hinata Shoyo
-He tried so hard with his sign/promposal- it was super cute
-Super excited for prom
-His hair just wouldn’t cooperate, so he went to prom with it sticking up everywhere
-Natsu begged to come with him, but he had to tell her she couldn’t, so she got pouty
-Took lots of pictures
-Blushed a lot when dancing/holding his date’s hand
-Can’t tie a tie to save his life- Yamaguchi saved him on that count
Tsukishima Kei
-Seriously, even harder to convince to go to prom than Kageyama
-He rejected a LOT of promposals from classmates
-Only agreed to go once Yamaguchi invited him to go with him and his date (they were just going as friends)
-Took one picture, bc Yamaguchi begged him
-Went home pretty early- like before 10 pm
-”Tched” a lot during prom
-Wore contacts instead of his glasses for prom
Yamaguchi Tadashi
-He asked a good friend to go, but he still made a cute volleyball sign and got his date a teddy bear
-He’s good at being the gentleman, even if he’s shy and sweet
-Not a very good dancer, but he’s trying!!
-Brought his date a super nice corsage/boutonniere that he had to save up for
-Helped all the other first years tie their ties
-He organized a picture taking meet up before prom for all the first years
-Cherishes one photo from prom where all the first years are smiling, and has it on his bedside table
-Just kept complimenting his date throughout the entire prom

hi. im in love with you.
i use he/him and she/her interchangeably. I like it most when people change it randomly, like halfway thru the sentence (ie “his outfit is so pretty, she obviously put a lot of thought into it”), but i know that can confuse other people so. It’s fine to just use he/him. When using she/her, its rlly important that people know that i am a man using she/her.
but ALSO i really like using she/her when it comes to gnc/lgbt topics. Its hard to explain and usually doesnt come up but like. I’ll use she/her more if i refer to myself as like.... a princess or a fairy or a prom queen or whatever. Or if im talking abt my attraction and like, the kind of role i’d like in a relationship. idk.

One Last Night || Huriel
SUMMARY: Huey & Ariel take Kimberly for one last prom, and meet a few people along the way NOTES/TWs: TW for death, but it’s not explicit rlly; kinda sad but also super sweet <3
@ariel-the-rebel
ARIEL/KIMBERLY:
Ariel was still a passenger in her own body. And it was miserable! She couldn’t believe this was happening. This ghost - Kimberly - had basically tricked her into drinking with her - ghost powers or whatever! All she could do now was watch and rage at the new driver.
Kimberly, for the record, wasn’t loving this either. Ariel lacked not only her long hair and legs from another life - but also her sense of style. She had to really try and pull a suitable look together for prom considering this closet barely had anything.
But, she tried. And she thinks she did okay - especially after raiding another sister or two’s room. Honestly, how big was this Ariel girl’s family?
And when the doorbell rang, she dashed down the stairs to answer it. Taking only a moment just before to adjust anything that might have moved out of place then carefully answered with a big smile. “Huey?”
HUEY:
Huey had rushed across town, the Holy Grail still wrapped in a blanket in his backpack, and he had gotten changed as quickly as he could. He hadn’t thought about prom that much because he hadn’t thought he was going, so all that was left to do was grab a black suit from the back of his wardrobe, tame his hair, and then contemplate what on Earth he was going to do with the Holy Grail.
He couldn’t leave it at home. What if someone had been after them and was watching him right now? Taking it to prom seemed like a horrible idea too, too much scope for someone to pick it up and grab it, but he would definitely feel better if it was within his eyeline at all times.
He was going to have to take it to prom.
He checked his watch; he needed to get going. There was time to pin a swan feather from his collection (of feathers in general, not just swan feathers— that would be weird), and nab another before he left, backpack and Holy Grail in tow.
He pressed the doorbell at Ariel’s and then stepped back, waiting for the door to open. He was not at all expecting the sight he was met with — the dress, the heels, the makeup. He blinked, and then he smiled, “Hey. You look nice. Very nice. Are any of those from Ariel’s wardrobe?” He was just teasing… mostly. “I brought you something, but— well. I don’t want to ruin your outfit.” He produced a black swan feather, twirling it between finger and thumb. “It’s Swan Lake theme, tonight.”
ARIEL/KIMBERLY:
“Thanks. I did what I could with...this,” Kimberly groaned, gesturing to herself. Well, Ariel. “I had to raid two other sisters’ closets for some of this - the dress though, you’ll be pleased to know, was in her’s. In the way back though like a dirty secret.”
She giggled at herself, stepping out of the house now and closing the door behind her before walking over to Huey. What she was expecting next was flowers. Or a corsage. Instead, a black feather. Which she made a face at first.
Oh. Yes. The theme. She hadn’t even thought of that.
“I wish you’d told me about the theme before I got ready,” She huffed, taking the feather and after a moment just tucking it into her hair. It’d have to do for now. She then looked him up and down. “You clean up very nice yourself, though.”
HUEY:
“Yeah — Sorry.” Huey cringed a little, but in his own defence, he had forgotten there was a theme at all until he had gotten home and remembered his brothers talking about their outfits and prom and themes, in particular. And he also had a lot on his mind right now — being on-theme for the prom was the least of his worries.
The blush that coloured his cheeks when she looked him up and down was not unexpected, but still a little strange. It felt almost wrong, in a way, because even though the girl in front of him was technically his girlfriend, she also definitely wasn’t. He gave a weak smile, tried for a slightly better one, and then said, “Um, thanks. Might’ve done better with a little more time, but…” he shrugged, and then gestured to the street behind him. “Shall we get going?”
They were going to have to walk, but it wasn’t like it was far. With all the one way roads and tourist traffic it would probably take longer in a car than on foot. “Did anyone see you inside the house?”
ARIEL/KIMBERLY:
“Uh, are we walking? Really?” Kimberly whined, looking between Huey and the road. But the look he gave her said they indeed were, so she huffed and followed him down the steps of the Triton home. Which was not the home she expected Ariel to come from. “Fine. Let’s just go already.”
She lifted up her dress, being careful to not ruin it. She didn’t think it looked expensive or anything, but she did not want to be caught dead in a ruined dress by the time she got to prom. Even if it wasn’t her. And she was dead.
The thought only made her angrier, and she reached out, forcefully looping her arm with his. “Of course not. I’m very sneaky.” She wasn’t, but no one was home, thankfully. It seemed they’d all already gone off to enjoy the festivities.
HUEY:
Huey simply arched his eyebrows in answer; he could’ve been sarcastic, or he could’ve given her a genuine answer, but he figured that that look was enough. It wasn’t like it was far away, though he did make a mental note to keep an eye on her dress - he didn’t want anything happening to it.
“The queen of sneaky, apparently. I’m impressed you got that dress with no one noticing.” He meant that, too; there were only 4 in his house and he could barely get away with anything. He couldn’t imagine having 8 knocking about the place.
He didn’t mind her arm looped with his. He would’ve offered, if he hadn’t been worried that she would take his head off for it. Kimberly was kinda scary. “So who was your date meant to be? Anyone nice?” He paused, and then cleared his throat. “Or I can stop asking, if you want. We don’t have to talk about it.”
ARIEL/KIMBERLY:
Kimberly’s - Ariel’s? This was so confusing - lips came together in a thin line at that. Part of her wanted to order him to stop talking. Just take her to prom so she can have a good time.
But another part…
“His name was David,” She started, careful. She wondered what had happened to him. Had he been upset? Angry, even, that she hadn’t shown up to prom? Did he wonder about what happened to her? “He was...very nice. A real gentleman. He went all out asking me to prom.” The thought made her smile.
HUEY:
Huey nodded as he listened, wondering who the mysterious David might have been. Was he still in Swynlake? Did he remember her? He must do. Huey would remember Ariel forever, he thought, if she went missing… yeah, no, he didn’t want to think about that at all actually.
“He sounds great.” He told her, offering Kimberly a gentle smile. He hadn’t even really asked Ariel to prom; at first he had just sort of assumed they were going, and then they weren’t going at all. The smile on her face was enough to make Huey feel a little pit of guilt deep in his stomach — he really needed to make more of an effort.
“Fair warning, tonight might be… something. I don’t know if it’s always been a thing, but secondary school prom tends to be… dramatic.”
ARIEL/KIMBERLY:
“He was,” Kimberly said, nodding a little. Her eyes slipped closed for just a moment...perhaps caught up in memories of David. Or just her life before...well, this.
Death. A cold reminder slipping up her back and sending chills.
A bit of a buzzkill, aren’t you…
If she could hiss at the voice in her - Ariel’s - head - which was Ariel… Still! She’d do it! Do you know how hard it is to get ready when someone is telling you to stop in your head? Like they were screaming bloody murder? If anything, Ariel should thank her! She looked absolutely cute - and that took some effort.
She snapped out of the small argument she felt coming on with Ariel, then looked to Huey. “Define dramatic? Because I feel like when you say dramatic, you mean more than just crying in the bathroom.”
HUEY:
“Well… a few years ago someone set the gym on fire. I think that’s the worst it’s ever been, to be honest, but still. I wasn’t even there and I have PTSD.”
It was most of the reason why Huey dreaded this time of year, honestly. He loved a party (he really loved planning parties too, but being on committee meant working with one or many Ashleys, and he wasn’t about to volunteer for that), and he would love prom if he could just go and hang out with his friends and dance a little awkwardly and then go home after a night well spent. Unfortunately though… it seemed it was never destined to be just a simple night.
(For the record: the other reason he didn’t get too excited for prom was the theme. Dressing to a theme was hard…)
“Hopefully tonight won’t be too bad, though?” He tried for a smile, but he knew it was a little lacklustre “it’ll be fun. We’ll make the best of it, I promise.”
ARIEL/KIMBERLY:
Kimberly jerked slightly, turning her whole body to look at him. “I’m sorry - what? What kind of animals is that school raising?” She hissed.
Wait until you meet the Ashleys.
“And what’s an Ashley?” She sneered. “Ariel did not sound happy about them.”
But then she stopped, and listened to Huey. She knows she’s normally bad at that. Her father even told her that a lot. Maybe if she listened more, she wouldn’t be in this situation. Dead and lost to time.
“...I’m sorry. You’re right. Let’s - yeah, let’s try to have a good time.”
HUEY:
Ashleys. Huey immediately grimaced, looking down at his shoes. “An Ashley is one of several Ashleys who are all mean for no reason, each in their own special way. The move in a pack and think they run the place.” He paused, looking at Kimberly and shrugging. “They shouldn’t bother us, though. I get the feeling they’re gonna have more on their plate at prom. They take prom queen very seriously.”
He would just make sure they steered clear of the Ashleys as best they could tonight; it should be easy enough, cause like he said - the Ashleys generally had more to worry about than the two of them. Although, with Ariel dressed like that…
They were coming up on the school now, and Huey gave her a smile, a proper one. A good time. They could manage that. “Okay — get ready for the most magical night of your life,” he led her inside the building, casting a glance at the decorations. “...or something.”
ARIEL/KIMBERLY
Kimberly nodded, understanding completely. So they were the ones in charge. Looking at Huey, she knew why’d they single him out. He was very nerdy, after all. She wanted to bring up how she had been somewhat like that with her friends. Before the Grail consumed her life. But her words died in her mouth.
Huey was nice. And she didn’t want to make this more awkward. Despite her attitude.
As they came upon the school, she had a sick sense of deja vu and her stomach turned. It had been so long...and it looked so much the same. Yet so different. But he spoke again, trying to be cheery and they entered the building.
She laughed a little, the decorations coming into view and some poppy song she’d never heard assaulted her eardrums. “Afterlife, maybe,” She joked, then looked around. “Whoa...what do you guys think fashion is nowadays?”
HUEY:
Afterlife, of course. Huey actually laughed, which kind of startled him; it felt almost bad to joke about it. It was a sad, sombre sort of thing. But if she was the one making the jokes, well… maybe he was allowed to laugh?
Huey wasn’t surprised by anything he saw as he looked around the room of assembled teenagers. Every event was like some kind of costume competition, with the objective of being the biggest, most glamorous, most outrageous person in the room, and tonight was absolutely no exception. Still. He dreaded to think what an 80s prom might look like.
“Well… I mean, we used to think that about you guys. No offense. But why was everything neon?” Questionable, and Huey didn’t even know anything about fashion. He took a breath, looking again at Kimberly. “So… what do you want to do first?”
ARIEL/KIMBERLY:
Kimberly looked to Huey, and smiled a little at the laugh. It really lifted her spirits to hear it. Maybe tonight would be good. Maybe this was the prom she was meant to go to. Sure, she’d love to have gone to her own. Be among her own peers, but…
“Excuse you!” She gasped, swatting at him playfully. “My original dress was AMAZING, I’ll have you know!” She giggled though, still holding onto his arm as he continued to speak. Then hummed as she looked around. “Gosh, there’s so much - Oh! Lets go get a picture taken!” She said this, shoving him towards the little picture area. “So we can never forget and - oof!”
“Uh! Triton, what the hell, you clumsy little - what are you wearing?” Ashlé started as they ran into her, ready to tear them apart before taking a small step back to look at them. “Did one of your sisters pick this out?”
Kimberly’s nose scrunched up. Oh, she knew girls like her. Already five seconds in, and she knew. “Do I know you?” She asked, going to flip her long blonde hair but remembering it wasn’t there. “You and your train are in the way.”
Ashlé’s face soured more. “Mallard, what drugs is your girlfriend on?”
“Why - I’d never!” Kimberly chirped up, looking to Huey now.
HUEY:
A picture sounded good, actually. He didn’t want to mention the fact that it would be he who held onto it, not her, because she seemed to picking up a bit, and he knew better than to ruin that mood. So instead he gave a laugh, tugging her by the arm over to the backdrop they had set up—
Straight into the path of an Ashley.
Or Ashlé, to be specific. Huey sighed, about to just apologise and skirt around her… but apparently, that wasn’t to be.
“Kim— Ariel.” He hissed, giving her a warning look before he looked to Ashlé. It was absolutely not like Huey to talk back to an Ashley, especially not after that run in with Ashley A a while back, but maybe it was the fact that his girlfriend was possessed and he had the Holy Grail in his backpack - he was feeling bold.
(And maybe, on some level, he was sort of, just a little, trying to impress Kimberly. Maybe. Which was exactly why he said:)
“Well, y’know, it’s hard to recognise you under all that dress, Ashlé. Plus, with the lackeys back there, we thought it might be someone important.” Instant regret. He was dead. Time to leave. “C’mon, Ariel,” He tried to tug her out of the way, back towards the other wall.
ARIEL/KIMBERLY:
Get her, Huey!
Ariel’s cheers ran through the head Kimberly found herself possessing, and she was in agreement. Even impressed, her eyes widening a little in surprise as she looked to Huey. Now she understood why the little spitfire seemed to like him so much. Maybe there was more to him than book smarts.
“Real mature, Mallard. Going after a girls’ looks,” Ashlé twisted, taking a step closer, lackeys moving with her. In her heels, she came eye to eye with him, unlike most girls. Her hand reached out to grip the back of his tux, keeping him in place. “Just because I’m graduating doesn’t mean you’ll escape my wrath.” Her nails dug into him. “Don’t think you’re safe.”
“Oh, come off it!” Kimberly erupted, causing a couple heads to turn and glance curiously their way. She stepped forward and yanked the clawed hand off her date. “I don’t have time for bitches ruining my night! I’ve waited too long for whoever you think you are to come and ruin it!”
“Triton, don’t forget who you’re talking to!”
“I don’t even know who I’m talking to!”
HUEY:
Huey had explained to enough people by now that it was not just fight or flight, but fight or flight or freeze, a hidden third option chosen by most rodents. Right now he felt like just that, a mouse caught in the paws of a sadistic cat. So that was just what did — he froze, but he couldn’t help but look right back at her, meeting her gaze so maybe it looked at least kind of like he wasn’t sure he was about to die?
When Kimberly swooped in to save the day, he was more than a little relieved. He looked over at her, not at all surprised that she was something of a spitfire. She would have to be, looking for the Grail on her own, holding onto it like she had…
“I think we would all be having a better night if we were on opposite sides of the room.” He concluded, stepping back to make sure he was out of Ashlé’s grasp and reaching for Ariel at the same time, taking her hand before it could be used to slap Ashlé. “I’m sure if you start walking your minions will follow.” He added, looking between the two who were still just holding onto her dress. Did they know how to do anything else?
“C’mon,” he urged Kimberly, tugging on her hand. “Photo time.”
ARIEL/KIMBERLY:
Kimberly was very much thinking of Ashlé. And Ariel’s screams of anarchy inside her skull were definitely all the encouragement she needed.
But then Huey grabbed her hand, and she remembered where they were. Who she was with. And who she was. This was all beneath her. Even though she wanted to tear out every feather in this girl’s dress, she let Huey hold her back before silently nodding in agreement with him and turning away.
All Ashlé got out before they walked off was a huff and a, “Typical.”
“And there are more of them?” Kimberly harshly whispered to him as they made their way to the photo area.
HUEY:
“Unfortunately.” He muttered, shooting a look at Ashlé out of the corner of his eye. No doubt she would regroup with the rest of her coven, though whether Huey and (not) Ariel were big enough news to be passed on to the rest of the group was debatable. “I’m pretty sure they multiply every other day.”
Enough of that, though. Hopefully they wouldn’t have any more run-ins with Ashleys for the rest of the night.
He led her over to the backdrop — he didn’t know who had painted it, but it was actually kind of good, with the lake in the background and the scenery and stuff. Not a half bad job. The last group was just vacating the photo area when they got there, so before anyone else could swoop in, Huey pulled Kimberly forward. “Okay — this is your perfect prom, you get to pick the pose. Whatever you want.”
ARIEL/KIMBERLY:
Uh, Kimberly wanted to tear out those dumb feathers from that stupid dress. But Huey guiding her away was able to calm her down enough for her attention to switch to something more improtant. Pictures!
“Oh! We have to go classic, of course!” She said, now grabbing him and yanking him in place. “You know, you behind me. Hands around my waist, my hands on your’s. You know!” As she spoke, she tried to pull him into the position, no matter how awkward his long limbs moved in comparison to her.
She wondered for a moment how someone so small as Ariel kissed him. Which got an angry rant from Ariel herself - which went ignored. She’d gotten quite good at ignoring her.
“Okay, ready? Okay! Smile!”
HUEY:
“Right, right,” Huey nodded, his mind casting back to all those vintage photos of people at their proms. Did people even still do that? He wasn’t surprised to find that he didn’t care. It’d be a nice photo, something that would be funny in hindsight, and if it made Kimberly happy, he wasn’t going to complain. He just let her drag him into the right position, trying not to accidentally elbow her in the ribs or step on her toes or something as he wrapped his arms around her middle.
For a moment, he thought about how it was still so strange, looking at his girlfriend and seeing someone else. Because sure, her eyes were a different colour now, and she was wearing clothes that Ariel was probably really mad about, deep down in there, but it was more than just that. She seemed totally different, her expressions, her mannerisms — he didn’t know how no one else had noticed it.
The flash went off on the camera, momentarily blinding him, and Huey used the time spent blinking stars out of his eyes to stow that thought away. A few more hours and Kimberly could be at peace, and Ariel would be back. In the meantime, they just had to try and navigate prom.
“Let’s go look at it,” he urged her, pulling her towards the photographer as he showed off the photo he’d taken. “Well?” He looked at Kimberly. “Do I make a good enough model or do you want a redo?”
ARIEL/KIMBERLY:
Kimberly couldn't help but giggle at Huey’s reaction. “Good job,” She said, before letting him pull her away and over to the camera to take a look. And she had been right. “We look great!”
Well, him and Ariel. But still her, but - it wasn’t. It was weird to imagine if he or her would keep that photo after she had...whatever. Another thing that was weird to think about. This whole thing was. Ner in her wildest dreams would she think she’d be here. Even in Swynlake.
“You did really good. Come on! Lets hit the floor!” She said, bouncing a little with excitement as she pulled him off in another direction. “I don’t know this song, but I get the vibe it’s going for.”
HUEY:
He wasn’t sure why he was so uplifted by her approval, but he was. When he’d first picked her up from Ariel’s house, he’d wondered if the entire night would be him making the wrong move and her taking a swipe at him for it, which he could’ve put up with, but… well, neither of them would’ve enjoyed the night, would they? This was much better. Apparently all it took was some boppy pop music and a half-decent photo backdrop for them to warm up a bit.
Huey laughed as he was pulled towards the dance floor. Dancing was not in any way his strength, but he had the spirit. “It’s a good song.” He agreed, trying his best to move to the rhythm and not take someone’s eye out.
Before they had been there too long, though, someone bumped into him, and then stumbled past, just managing to stand on the back of Kimberly’s dress.
“Woah!” JJ cried, looking at the pair. “Sorry!”
ARIEL/KIMBERLY:
Kimberly yelped in surprise, causing a couple heads to turn, and she whipped around to face the culprit. Of course, she had no idea who this was. But she was already fired up from their earlier interaction and wouldn’t think twice about tearing into this new victim.
“Watch where you’re going next time!” She huffed, looking down to her dress with pity. Then back up at the teen again. Then back at Huey, as if catching herself just in time to ask if she was going too far.
And by his expression - and Ariel’s continued raging inside - she realized she had.
So, she pursed her lips, tensed up, then sighed and looked back to him. “I mean - sorry. It’s my sister’s...You know? Don’t want it ruined.”
You are terrible at this.
HUEY:
Huey could only blink, surprised, as apparently could Jack Jack, who looked at the would-be Ariel with wide eyes and increasingly red cheeks. Huey didn’t really know the youngest Parr that well, but that was probably a good thing — it probably meant he kept out of trouble, unlike his siblings.
Luckily for them, though, JJ wasn’t wasn’t totally unused to girls shouting at him — the perks of having a sister. If it could be called a perk. He recovered quickly, with a small shake of his head that tousled his curls and brought a small, kinda nervous smile back to his face.
“Right, yeah - lemme make it up to you! Uh…. there’s pizza?” JJ offered. “I will definitely fight the hordes of hungry teenagers to get you a slice. A good slice.”
ARIEL/KIMBERLY:
At that, Kimberly seemed to perk up. It had been so long since she’d had - well, any type of food. And just at the mention of it, Ariel’s tiny body seemed to growl in hunger as well. Perfect timing.
“Actually, that’d be perfect,” She said, smiling sweetly and grabbing his arm. “If you need a weapon, you can take this purse with you as well. I chose it because it seems good to smack people around with.”
Old habits did die hard, she supposed. Plus, she was gettign tired of carrying. Win - win for everyone.
HUEY:
The offer seemed to have gone down well, which was enough to make JJ stop sweating, but not enough for him to feel fully at ease. His impression of Ariel had always been that she was kinda chill, not… whatever was going on here. But hey, he didn’t know her, maybe she contained multitudes. He wasn’t gonna judge. He just took her purse, tucked it under her arm, gave a mock salute, and was on his way.
Huey, however, was absolutely judging, and he glanced around to make sure that most heads had turned back to whatever it was they were doing before her little outburst. He couldn’t blame Kimberly for reacting — that wasn’t her dress, and it was a nice dress, so someone stepping on it was definitely cause for concern — but still. Ariel wouldn’t have reacted like that. Ashlé suspecting was one thing (she had probably already forgotten about them both by now, seeing as to her they were ants, and she was a sadistic kid with a magnifying glass), but others might not. They needed to keep on the down low as much as possible.
And he had been so busy thinking, and worrying, he didn’t notice the other two had started moving through the crowd. “Hey, wait up!”
It was easy enough to follow them. JJ carved a path through the crowd with his free elbow and the purse, the two of which seemed like a pretty solid combination. Huey managed to get past just as people started mingling together again, trailing them all the way to the pizza table.
“Look out, coming through, hungry lady here, c’mon,” JJ battered his way to the front, earning a few disgruntled mutterings as he went, and gestured to the cardboard pizza boxes littering the table. “M’lady.”
ARIEL/KIMBERLY:
Kimberly found it hard not to giggle at this newcomier’s antics. Was he a little sloppy and clumsy? Yes, but at least he had good intentions. Unlike the girl. So, she held up the end of her dress and followed along, smiling all the while.
She threw that smile back at Huey before turning back to the pizza.”Thank you, good sir. I think we’re even now,” She said as she carefully grabbed her and Huey a slice on a paper plate.
“Uh, JJ?” A voice came, and Kimberly turned to see a small Chinese girl looking at them all curiously. Blinking, Su looked between them, but kept looking back at her suspiciously. “Hey...you guys in a rush or something?”
HUEY:
Jack Jack gave a miniature bow, making sure to nab a piece of pizza for himself before the crowds descended on them once again. Honestly, he thought he was gonna have to get himself a one of those purses, cause Ariel was right: it was very good for whacking people with. He’d never have to wait in line for anything ever again with one of those things.
To save from being jostled away from the table, Huey stepped up behind Kimberly, looking over her shoulder. He didn’t know why seeing a slice there for him too made him smile; it was just the polite thing to do. Although, Kimberly had proven if there was one thing she wasn’t, it was polite. So. Huey was gonna choose to take this one as another sign that she was warming up to him.
He was so distracted by that slice of pizza that he didn’t notice Su until he saw Kimberly’s head move. He only really knew Su as Mei’s sister, ot as her own person, which sure was a little weird, but he assumed, if she was anything like Mei, that she was nice. She certainly seemed it.
“For pizza,” JJ answered, and Huey reached around Kimberly, grabbing a box with a few slices left inside. He handed it to the younger boy, who held it out to Su. “Payback for standing on Ariel’s dress. I got her, and now you, the best pizza Swynlake Secondary has to offer.”
ARIEL/KIMBERLY:
Kimberly eyed the young girl back, then looked to Huey and JJ. “Yeah - he’s lucky I’m so merciful tonight,” She joked, laughing and waving off the odd air that came over them. “Anyway - JJ, you and Su can go dance or eat pizza. I think me and Huey are going to have some time alone, you know?”
She wrapped an arm around Huey’s thin waist, smiling sweetly at the two then up at her not but Ariel’s boyfriend. Still, Su stood there, hesitant for a moment, then looked back to JJ. “Okay...what kind do they have?”
And with that, Kimberly took the distraction to usher Huey away, giggling a little as she did so.
HUEY:
Huey wasn’t sure entirely why, but he blushed at that.
Maybe it was the arm around his waist, which was technically Ariel’s but also very much not Ariel’s right now, or maybe it was the little look Jack Jack gave them, the glance between the two of them and the small nod before he turned around to Su to play waiter (literally, he was doing a little mock bow again). But either way, Huey was glad it was kind of dark in there as he was pushed back towards the crowd, leaving the pizza table behind.
The night after that seemed to go in kind of a blur. People getting thrown into punch bowls, prom king and queen, and the drama that had followed (there was always some kind of drama; prom was just like that), all of which Huey was very glad to not be a part of. When the dancing had resumed after Nemo had… yeah. Huey wasn’t thinking about it. He had just been grateful to get back to what had otherwise been a pretty good night — Kimberly was definitely a better dancer than him, but he didn’t even care.
With the night wearing on, the music was starting to slow down a little. Huey didn’t even know what the song was, to be honest, but he put his hands on Kimberly’s waist and swayed along to it, just a little off beat.
“Y’know,” He paused, wondering if he should tell this story. It wasn’t like Ariel wasn’t there. But still. It was a nice story. “This is actually how me and Ariel got together. It was a wedding, not a prom. But we were dancing, and then the song went all slow, and it seemed kinda awkward to stop dancing… and then she kissed me.” He paused, and then added, his tone a little softer. “She’s a lot braver than me. Which is good, ‘cause you could’ve been in my body, and I don’t think that’d work for anyone.”
ARIEL/KIMBERLY:
Despite the circumstances, Kimberly was having a nice time. Especially once she settled into the festivities. She would dare say Ariel was also having a good time, deep down. Literally, wherever she was and how possession worked.
And Huey wasn’t a bad partner for the evening either. He was kind. And went out of the way to make sure she was okay. And comfortable. She appreciated that.
With her arms looped around his shoulders, swaying comfortably with the music, she smiled up at him at that. “That sounds about how I’d see it going,” She chuckled, patting at his chest. “Oh really? I was about your height, you know? But I would have definitely made you wear heels to this, whether you liked it or not.”
Another little laugh, shaking her head. This was - nice. On the verge of perfect. But the faces were all wrong. But she could pretend...if not just for a moment…
“This has been really nice...actually.”
HUEY:
Kimberly really hadn't been bad company either. He might’ve had a better time with Ariel, cause there wouldn’t have been that weird awkward period right at the start there, but it had been good. Nice. And he could do it all again with Ariel next year, if they wanted to.
“Ah, and you would’ve ruined my cool guy reputation.” His nose scrunched as his laughed, ‘cause the idea of him really was laughable. He could barely walk in a straight line as it was, he couldn’t imagine trying to walk in heels. Though that would have been her problem, not his.
He was glad that she was having a nice time, though. That she’d enjoyed it. Being trusted with someone’s prom, when they were… she only had the one night, is what he was saying, and he had worried about it being his responsibility. It was nice that he could give her that.
“I’ll try not to be offended by the actually.” He teased, before glancing around the room. “We could call it a night, if you want? Before anymore calamities.”
ARIEL/KIMBERLY:
“Pfft - whatever,” Kimberly chuckled.
At his suggestion, she looked around. After the crowing ceremony drama, about half of the attendees seemed to clear out, so there was so much more room for them on the dance floor. But, if that was only a taste of what Swynlake’s modern secondary could offer her for drama, getting out sounded like a good option while she still could. They’d managed to stay out of trouble so far, may as well not push it
“Yeah...it’s probably best that we go now before a second wave of drama comes,” She hums, pulling away for a moment then grabbing his hand and leading him out the gym doors and into the hall of lockers. “What now, lover boy?”
Though, she knew. It was time for her to go. Even though a part of her didn’t want to go. Was still in denial that she had long since passed. And this wasn’t her body.
“One more walk though, for old time sake?”
HUEY:
He didn’t really want to say it, but he saw the recognition flash in her eyes. He didn’t know how any of this worked, but… he knew it was time for her to go. Into the light, to the other side, whatever it actually was. Her soul had been tied to the Grail, and now to Ariel, when she had drank from it. Maybe if anyone else had found it, Kimberly really would have achieved eternal life. Or at least, she would’ve passed on to the next person, and the next person after that, hopping bodies for eternity.
But they’d given her what she wanted. One last night, one last prom. That would be enough for her to move on, wouldn’t it?
“Sure.” He nodded, giving her hand a squeeze. “I know a spot.”
Town was almost eerily quiet, what with most people either being at the secondary school or the adult prom, but it was nice. It made Huey feel a little better about hauling the Grail around with him; it was just the two of them.
Well. The three of them.
It was equally quiet by the lake. It might’ve been creepy on any other night, the full moon reflecting on the deep, dark water, but it felt sort of on theme for prom, actually.
“Well… was prom everything you expected it to be?”
ARIEL/KIMBERLY:
The lake was still as beautiful as she remembered. Almost like it hadn’t changed since her time alive and young and free. The full moon looming over them - it was perfect. It made tears sting at her eyes. Her town....she loved it.
In life, she wasn’t too big on Magicks. She’d thought them dangerous. Scary. David had taught her differently. And because of him, she wanted to do better. Which is how she got mixed up with the Grail - and here she was now.
“It...it was something else,” She admitted, but smiled sadly at him. “I had a great time, Huey.” Taking a breath though, putting back on a firm face, she nodded and wiped at her eyes. “Listen to me - you need to get that Grail somewhere safe. It can’t - this can’t happen to anyone again, alright?”
HUEY:
Huey nodded earnestly, knowing that they were going to do their best. Turning it in to Town Hall would be so simple, but what then? What if someone got their hands on it, someone who decided to use it for evil? He knew they were in danger by holding on to it, but he also knew that it was better that they did, that it was safe with them, for now. It needed to be taken back to the forest, to be buried deep down somewhere, somewhere where no one would ever find it again.
“We will.” He assured her, taking her hand and squeezing it gently. “Ariel and I, we’ll make sure that it gets into the right hands. We won’t let it go until we’re positive. And we’ll make sure, wherever it goes, it’s far away from anyone else.”
Huey could only imagine how the Grail could be used to hurt someone. To ensnare them like Kimberly had been, or to threaten, or… well, he could imagine a lot of things, and none of them pleasant. “I promise. We’ll take care of it.”
ARIEL/KIMBERLY:
Huey took her hand, and Kimberly felt a sudden calm come over her with the squeeze of her hand. She took a breath, sharp and deep then looked him in the eye and smiled. “I trust that you will. Good luck,” She said, her voice shaking a little. “And thank you.”
And with that, Ariel’s bright blues came back. A silence overtaken her and she blinked once. Twice. Then looked to Huey. “She’s...gone.” Her hand, now once fully her own again, squeezed his tightly and smiled just the slightest. “She’s okay though…”
HUEY:
Huey was sad to see Kimberly go, but he had to admit — he was glad to see Ariel return, brown melting away into blue again. He didn’t know what to say, at first. He didn’t know if she was upset at having someone else control her body, or angry, maybe. She really did have the right to be either of those, given the circumstances. All Huey did was wait for her to say something, smiling back at her when she smiled at him, even if it was barely there.
“And you?” He asked, browns furrowing a little. He was glad to know Kimberly was okay, wherever she was now, but Ariel had been a passenger for a while now. Who knew what that could do to a person? Would it have any side effects? “How do you feel?”
ARIEL:
Ariel laughed awkwardly at that. Honestly, she didn’t know. It was weird now having control. Suddenly the weight of life crashing down on her. Was it...weird to feel a little sad she was back in control? All the responsibilities of her life coming back to her?
Probably. And she really didn’t want to voice it. If anything, she was tired.
So she nodded, leaning forward until she was fully leaning against him, head resting on his shoulder and wrapping her arm that wasn’t holding his hand around him. “Yeah...I’m fine just...super tired. It’s been a long night.” She turned her head up to look at him though. “I missed you though…”
HUEY:
Huey wasn’t surprised that she was tired. He could imagine that being possessed was pretty stressful, even if the ghost you were possessed by was just a girl from the 80s who wanted to go to prom.
He leaned his head against Ariel’s, face smushed into her hair, and wrapped his free arm around her in turn. He didn’t know if Ariel was telling the truth about Kimberly being at peace, and he still had the Holy Grail in his backpack, and yet this moment was the most calm he’d felt all night. The quiet and the chill to the night air… it was calming. Comforting. And Ariel was back — that was a lot of it, too.
He straightened up when she tilted her head, dipping his chin so he could look at her. “I missed you too.” He told her, and he meant it, too. He wished they could’ve had prom, but there was always next year, he supposed. “I’m really glad you’re back.”
ARIEL:
Ariel smiled up at him. Why were her eyes all wet? Uh, she felt so dumb and sappy but also didn’t care. She slowly reached up, pulling her hand from his and set it on his cheek before leaning up just a little more to press a kiss to his lips.
“Sorry I...pulled an Ariel,” She tried to joke. “I don’t know what happened there…”
Aside from the odd pull of the Grail. She wondered if that’s what happened to Kimberly. She figured though she’d never know that. And with luck, they never would. Because while she wanted to just live in this soft, rose tinted moment against Huey, the weight of what just happened clung to her tired body as well.
“But we have to get rid of that thing...get it somewhere safe,” She said. “No one should have to go through what Kimberly did again…”
HUEY:
The kiss was soft, and sweet, and enough to distract him from the many, many reasons he had to worry right now. He kind of just wanted to stay like that, in the cloud of her perfume, with the warmth of her body against his, not worrying.
But she was right. They needed to do something.
“You’re right.” He agreed, pulling back just a little, enough to meet her eyes properly. “I’ll keep hold of it, tonight.” He assured her. It was still in his backpack, as it had been all night, and it would stay there. He’d take it home, and hide the bag somewhere safe for the time being. At least they were out in the farmlands, where it was quiet, where he or his Uncle or on of his brothers would notice the footfall of strangers.
“And I’ll think about who we can give it to. I’ll do some research.” That wouldn’t be difficult; he loved doing research. “There has to be someone who can take it back out to the forest and hide it.”
