The "Sterek" Trap
Elliot "Eli" Hale is sent to a summer camp his father used to work at in his youth against his protesting. There he meets London Stilinski, an infuriating person who for some reason looks just like him. The two of them are forced to spend the summer with one another only to find out that their parents used to be lovers who met at this very camp. The two boys decide it's time to put the Parent Trap in place and try and get them back together.

Any yaoi tease / shippable moments in bbc ghosts ?
Gar you don’t even know what you just stepped in on. There’s no yaoi tease in ghosts because it’s actually like a full on yaoi and yuri extravaganza. it’s so crazy. I genuinely got frustrated because I can’t open my front door anymore without being bombarded with strangely compelling old man yaoi on my concrete doorstep.

There’s this fucking guy called 'the captain' and he has a very sad dramatic gay backstory from when he was closeted and in the army. and so they have several episodes that are literally framed so that you expect him to come out. it’s fucked. But also It’s like actually horribly sad because he’s dead right. Like a ghost because it’s bbc ghosts (the sitcom from the same guys who made horrible histories right like)
He attends a lesbian wedding that’s taking place inside of the haunted house and he gets SOOO fucking excited (while dead as hell and invisible to everyone there) like “I need to set up the fucking lights waving his little stick. he’s an awesome character. And swagless.and I’m not far enough in the show to know his real name or how he died.
There’s also a bunch of weird Jiles shit with him and another ghost called Pat who was a scout leader and died in the 1980s because a scout shot him through the neck with an arrow. You really need to know the vibe of the show to understand why that’s all compelling. It’s weird as fuck like Pat will tie a knot and Captain will basically get on his knees it’s abysmal and it makes me homophobic
Tumblr media
There’s also a ghost called Mary who was burnt at the stake and has a cute relationship with a ghost called Anne, who had already moved on by the time the show takes place and only shows up in flashbacks. (The ghosts refer to moving on as “getting sucked off”)
Also Gar I need to tell you that there’s a ghost who’s basically just if Julian Bashir was a dead poet like it’s the same exact character. It’s really fucked Gar. You should watch BBC Ghosts (2019-2023) it’s so good

“We want to hear the ghosts say fuck!”
I hear your cries and I shall deliver!!!! I’ve snagged some quotes from each of the ghosts and added ‘Fuck’ because with exams coming up I feel the same way! (Fuck!)
The Captain: “What the bally fuck is going on?”
Humphrey: “Ow! Fuck! Surely… (kick) that’s… (kick) enough!”
Pat: “Wow. It’s like a fuckin’ spaceship!”
Mary: “Lucky fucker…”
Thomas: “Answer the question damn your fucking eyes!”
Fanny: “Daddy’s NOT drilling ANY holes in ANY fucking walls!”
Julian: “I’m literally IN the fridge! How can I still fucking hear it?! AAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!”
Robin: “You’re a fuckin’ metaphor…”
Kitty: “I fucking love Love, Actually actually”
Plague Ghosts (well, two of them):
“You fucking killed my kids, mate.”
“Fucking technophobe…”

A personal (beige???) flag:
I will stop on walks to rizz up birds regularly. I simply have a psychological need to stop and say 'ooooo you're so pretty! hello beautiful!!!' when I see a bird that is looking pretty in the sunshine
Today I was narrating this pretty little black and white bird being like 'hey gorgeous look at you walking over there!! oh you look so nice! look at those legs for days!!!!'
and I didn't realize there was someone behind me and I probably would have toned it down a little if I'd known it was a middle-aged man, because he looked very confused.

Okay, so Kilmeny opens with an epigraph from a poem called The Queen's Wake, by James Hogg. I looked it up, and it is free to read on google books. The overall poem is a bardic competition held by Mary Queen of Scots, and the ballad of Kilmeny is one of the songs in the competition. (If you ctrl f 'kilmeny' you can go straight to that ballad if you don't want to read the whole thing.) The epic is in Scots, so I didn't grasp all the nuances (also I'm Bad At Poetry) but from what I can tell, the epic is about a beautiful young woman named Kilmeny who is so beautiful and pure that she gets kidnapped by fairies and taken off to their world. She sees sights too wondrous and complex for human recounting (literally at one point the narrator of the song is like, 'I would love to tell you what she saw, but human lips can't express such things so I can't. Moving on!') but eventually asks to be shown her own country again. She is then returned to her country and tells of what she saw, but she was away for seven years and hasn't changed at all and everyone -- including possibly her? -- is unclear on if she's actually alive or even human anymore, so fairly quickly she goes back to fairy land because she no longer belongs to the human world anymore.
So. There is A Lot To Unpack here! With the caveat that I haven't read the actual novel yet, because I got sidetracked into poetry, several themes emerge:
1- obviously, Mortal Woman Is Too Beautiful. LMM pulls out several snippets for the epigraph, and all of them are about how beautiful Kilmeny is: “Kilmeny looked up with a lovely grace, But nae smile was seen on Kilmeny’s face; As still was her look, and as still was her ee, As the stillness that lay on the emerant lea, Or the mist that sleeps on a waveless sea. . . . . . . . . . . . . . Such beauty bard may never declare, For there was no pride nor passion there; . . . . . . . . . . . . . Her seymar was the lily flower, And her cheek the moss-rose in the shower; And her voice like the distant melodye That floats along the twilight sea.” — The Queen’s Wake JAMES HOGG
2- Even in these snippets we see that Kilmeny has been changed by her experiences. She does not smile anymore, and her beauty is passionless and serene. Later, we learn that when she comes back to the human world she avoids men (I think meaning all humans here) and roams the countryside singing to wild animals. This bodes ill for a story about how a man bursts into Kilmeny's garden and takes her out of it.
2.5- Anyone else know the song "The Willow Maid" by Erutan? Don't take the fairy women out of their forests!
3- I know this is intended to be a romance, and that Eric is not written as the bad guy, but starting with this particular poem is really priming me to be wary of him. In general, in folklore, you Do Not Marry the fairy women. Bad things will happen to them if you do.
3.5- I haven't even started the actual text but, uh, changeling AU anyone?

Michael Tate was introduced in Greater Boston as someone mourning his best friend; his grief after Leon's death is a key part of his character arc. Four seasons later, in his farewell letter to Louisa, we hear him thinking of himself as a best friend who someone else would mourn - a kind of tragic role reversal. In that letter, Michael refers to both Leon and Louisa as his "best friend". As he faced the prospect of death, he thought about how it felt for him to lose Leon and he used that experience to empathise with the grief and anger and regret that Louisa would feel at losing him. He tried to ease the pain that Louisa would feel at his death while knowing that he couldn't. There's something so powerful to me about that potential cycle of loss. Michael, whose narrative has been so shaped by grief, had to confront the idea of someone grieving for him with a similar intensity…

don’t worry y’all, caleb can still use four whole spells (including counterspell!) from his spellbook since they don’t have a verbal component. and more importantly, his boyfriend loves him a lot and presumably has dark star prepared to do 8d10 force damage to ludinus’ stupid face
