My human Dan design! Plus some ghost Dan to practice drawing him.

I'll explain more in depth below the cut for those who are curious, but the basic ideas for why he looks this way is that his human half is a mix of Danny and Dan(with a small sprinkle of Vlad). It was supposed to eventually match his ghost form more, but things had to be cut short on that path so he got kinda stuck with a middle of the road body(he's roughly late teens).

I'm desperate for him to not look exactly like Danny, but I also had this funny idea that he would somehow end up attending Casper High after he is decently redeemed(so his human body had to be younger than his ghost form). Like just imagine the interactions. Dan would *definitely* get revenge on Dash lol

More detailed explanation:

The clone Dan was stuck in was pretty much constantly destabilizing post AGIT. This was due to the imperfect nature of them, Dan's high power, and the physical difference between the two forms. Vlad and Danny kept it from totally falling apart by using the ecto-dejecto. They had to use it *a lot* though.

Vlad tweaked the clone to be able to be shaped by Dan's ghost(to fix the incongruence of the bodies, and to possibly make it so the body could handle Dan's power better). This is what led to the mixing of Dan and Danny; the body was going from Danny to Dan in terms of appearance. It was taking some time though and they were definitely going to run out of the ecto-dejecto, *especially* since Dani also needs it(I like to think that the ecto-dejecto wasn't a permanent fix, so she has to use it on occasion. There's also no way Danny would give a mid-morph sample at this point cause he and Dani are still pretty distrustful of Vlad.)

Since Jack had originally made the ecto-dejecto Vlad could not figure out how tf to replicate it. Jack had also forgotten how he made it because, I mean, it’s Jack(nevermind that he wouldn’t even have a reason to remember how to make something that’d help ghosts/was a failed version of an experiment)

Vlad then developed a way to convert the ectoplasmic nature of the clones to good ol’ human meat(aka permanent stabilization for Dan). Vlad ended up having to do that to Dan before his human form could completely match his ghost form, hence the mix and being physically younger than his ghost form(a note: the bodies not matching remains a problem, but not a crippling/kill him kind of one. Dan is usually in pain after going ghost, especially if he used his powers a lot, but it fades relatively fast. Additionally, he(unrelated to body stuff) cannot be ghostly for too long because the ghost half will destabilize(not goopy, time/reality)).

I also had this idea that the ghost catcher could be used to permanently fuse Dan's ghost to the human body. I doubt he's fused with the clone body in AGIT, and this would continue to be a problem with my idea; Dan is basically just puppeting/overshadowing the bodies. The catcher has a merge side, sooooo

Finally, some design stuff(and a bit about him going to Casper). As mentioned Dan looks younger, which means he is capable of attending Casper High, and he does so because he never actually finished school(and he would be able to stalk/keep an eye on Danny and the others better. By this point he no longer wants to kill them, and is instead paranoid about the possibility of them dying, so yup, stalking). He'd be put in the same grade as Jazz so they could hang out and what not.

Vlad is also glad to have any time away from Dan because they fight a lot lol

But once at Casper due to his Vlad half he plays football(Vlad fusion aside, it’s a sport where he can be violent w/o problem). Dan got a letterman jacket from that, but he still hates the popular kids so he had Sam dye it black.

The hair streak is also from Vlad, but Dan's hair style is just his ghost form's minus the whole fire thing.

His clothing style is a mix of Vlad and Danny’s(except the jacket). Shirt is from Danny, pants from Vlad, then sneakers + dress shoes = boots.

Finally, it’s a bit subtle but he has heterochromia; one eye is Danny's color, the other Vlad’s.

So I originally misread Cotton as Cotton Candy (especially since not everyone includes the Cookie part of the name), and I’m not doing Dark Choco/Cotton, so Dark Choco/Cotton Candy it is

Anyways, this is Bubble Choco Cookie

So Bubble Choco here is somewhere in his teens, and he’s an avid poet. However he does not want anyone to read his poems, and will make sure you don’t touch his poetry journal. They’re mostly edgy or sad and they aren’t the best, but it’s how he expresses himself. He’ll just pull out his journal and pencil at random times and start writing

When he was younger, he used to be a lot more cheerful and bubbly, but as he entered his teen years, he started to act more rebellious and “dark”. He never quite gave up his fashion sense though, with his main changes just being that he wears some darker shades

He is also very fond of chocolate, specifically the aerated kind

Okay I’m gonna be honest, I don’t have much for him other than the poet angle. I just kind of decided to finally start drawing him

I also recognize that he has very little of Dark Choco in his character, as well as design, but that’s in part because of the way I envisioned this ship. For one thing, it’s in Ovenbreak so no Dark Cacao Kingdom here, Dark Choco probably just lives with Cotton Candy, and also, it’s a wholesome ship, their kid doesn’t need that much angst. And he’s a poet instead of a fighter, and if he doesn’t want to fight, I don’t see any reason for Dark Choco to teach him; Cotton Candy doesn’t seem to live in an area that requires much sword fighting or the like

Anyways, on to design stuff

So Bubble Choco is based on aerated chocolate, since it’s like a really light chocolate, and cotton candy is also light (I’m talking weight btw). Also, I’ve eaten this kind of chocolate before (I quite enjoy Aero bars), and I quite like it

I think another name I was considering was Air Choco, since it’s closer to the actual name of the ingredient, but Bubble Choco works better as a name

So as I said earlier, I kind of made him for the sake of making him and doing more of these, so there wasn’t a super big amount of thought out into him. I do still like how he turned out though

All I really had to go on initially was the poet angle (I didn’t even reread my old notes), and I wasn’t really sure where to go with his personality until I started tweaking his expression. He was also originally going to be a girl but somewhere in development I decided “eh, why not have him be a boy?” and there you have it

I also knew I wanted him to have black poofy hair with things in it. It was originally more of a curved line in between the ends, but I changed it when I looked at Cotton Candy’s hair more. Though I kind of wish I had kept it now. There was also an old concept I mad ages ago that also had that hair, but it was longer. Don’t know why it’s this current length

After doing the hair, I wasn’t really sure what to do with the outfit, and I kind of just made something up as I went. He’s got the poofy ends of his jacket because of the whole “bubble” thing. I wanted to give him more poofy stuff

His colors are brown and light green become the Aero bars I usually see are regular chocolate (brown) and mint (light green). The pink was added to there’d be a little more color variation

As for the thing in his eye, it’s because of Cotton Candy’s heart eyes and me liking to put stuff in the eyes in place of that. Bubble Choco’s eye thing is supposed to be a sort of reference to Dark Choco with his star, though I didn’t bother to curve it out. And as I realize now, the eye I chose is also his missing eye and the star eye of the SoD. I’d like to claim that was intentional, but it wasn’t

And anyways yeah, there you have it. Bubble Choco. Don’t really have much else to say other than I hope you enjoyed him

Yang - Atlas Design Critique.

Sorry I took so long I just wanted to catch up on some shows I’ve been missing out on and prepare for college next month- but I got to work on Yang! Who honestly was SO HARD TO MAKE A REDESIGN! And even HARDER, make a CRITIQUE for.

RWBY Archives

Reading her archives she’s reminiscent of a pilot and that’s a pretty odd choice, her design should’ve been at least a skier or a party girl but whatever. She’s never hinted at wanting to learn how to fly an airship, she just drives around a crappy motorbike in Mantle at best. It’s misleading but again, whatever. Jaune dresses as a knight and I don’t expect him to protect anyone, Weiss dresses as a princess but isn’t ruling a kingdom, Yang dresses like a pilot and I don’t expect her to fly an airship when she can just leave it up to Maria and Pietro. But other than the odd aesthetic for Yang, the outfit does look moderately warm with a cool bomber jacket, an orange scarf… and an exposed thigh. Accompanied by a white tube top that just wouldn’t be practical to have in the Great North. I get it, they said aura can keep the characters warm but is Yang really wasting her life-saving aura to be fashionably exposed rather than just, wearing warmer clothes? This outfit can work if she is solely stuck in Mantle but she’s a huntress taking missions out in the tundras! 

There’s not a lot of heat generators out there to depend on!

Hair

No, I’m not going to critique the model, her model is fine. I just wanna talk about her hair. Yang has her hair unchanged which is in character for her, she’s pretty strict about her hair being left untouched. I just really think the hair gets in the way of putting Yang in yellow. Trust me, it is. Yellow is very bright and Yang has such large yellow hair with weapons that are two large yellow chunks. I can see why they barely put Yang in yellow anymore. Here’s the thing, they’ve made Yang’s hair no longer yellow but instead an average blonde, the same tactic they did for Blake so they could put her in pure black except they didn’t. To me, Yang isn’t defined by her large yellow hair, she’s defined by her hair shining bright like fire. If they need to cut her hair or just have her hair in a ponytail to put yellow in her yellow, please do so! 

Primary Color - Yellow?

I love how her bomber jacket is auburn-red for Ruby, I adore the white tufts on the jacket for Weiss, and I certainly love that more black in on the look for Blake. When she stands next to Blake it looks like they should be a pair… just wished Blake wore yellow/gold in return- but with her teammate's colors on her, I still think Yang has too many colors. She reads to me as muddy and unfocused with the different shades of brown all around! And worst of all they rely on dirty gold-brown and orange to compensate for yellow. Yang IS NOT wearing yellow, at all. Remember when I said I liked her auburn-red jacket? I bet you didn’t know it was supposed to be auburn-red, cause in the show, it’s brown. This is something I’ve been wanting to say for years. In the concept art, they show Yang’s gold matching her hair to be more in line with yellow. Even in the 3D model sheet, the colors follow the concept art with actual auburn-red, tan skin, and a brighter yellow for her weapons. In the show, the colors are just muted or completely changed. Yang’s weapons are now an ugly shade of yellow; Highlighter Yellow. Her jacket is legit brown. The pretty tan is now ugly beige. I don’t understand… her model follows the correct colors but in the show it’s different! Is it the lighting? Was the model tweaked and I’m just using a faulty image? What is going on??? They can put her in the prettiest colors that flatter the gold but it all gets washed out! They need to put Yang in colors that flatter yellow cause this engine or lighting isn’t working.

Negatives?

Yang’s look isn’t great or awful, she’s a neutral positive. Yang does have the second-best look on her team even with silly exposed leg and chest, and lack of yellow. In the end, I think the biggest issue with Yang’s Atlas design is the coloring I mentioned above. They keep making Yang wear anything other than the color yellow and when she does have yellow on her the animation engine turns her yellows into the ugliest shades of it! Highlighter Yellow, Brown, Dirt Gold, Sandy Beige, and Dull Yellow. Whatever is going on with the lighting or model, It seriously needs some tweaks or adjustments, I hope in Vacuo where it’s super sunny and bright, her yellows can pop rather than be muted.

Redesign

I understand that yellow is super hard to work with for Yang so here’s the trick, put her in minimum yellow than NO YELLOW AT ALL. I took inspiration from Emerald Sustrai’s Atlas look since she wore limited green but still stunning, and from Mami Tomoe from Madoka Magica where she has limited yellows because of her hair. The least amount of different colors on Yang, the better. Her aesthetic is a motorbike fun girl which I might’ve flopped on, her sleeves are rolled up on her jacket, she has a large purple scarf with an Ursa pattern on the end to help her allusion of being Goldilocks and the three bears, and since she’s the mom/big sister of the team I thought it’d be nice for her to have some of her teammate's emblems on her as patches for her pouch. To top it off I loved Yang’s socks in the concept art that I wanted them to poke out of her boots. It’s not perfect but a good blueprint for me if I ever want to return to this redesign and make a few changes.

Conclusion

Yang’s Atlas outfit is again, a neutral positive for me, despite the odd aesthetic of being a pilot to the bizarre colors on her, she’s fine. I just expect Yang to wear yellow, and I also expect her to look like she belongs with Team RWBY since none of her teammates wear yellow in return. They rely too much on Yang wearing browns and oranges rather than yellow, the presumed teaser image for Volume 10 seems to have Yang in yellow by putting her hair in a ponytail. That way the large yellow hair doesn’t act like a cape, comparable to Ruby’s large red cloak. I always think Yang’s design could work if she just had tweaks of colors if anything else, don’t be afraid to put her in yellow, and don’t be afraid to ditch a color of hers even if it’s a staple to her design. Yang doesn’t need to wear brown, and she doesn’t need to wear orange or lilac. The less colors, the better. I’m tired of Yang always coming out, wearing brown, and reminding me of potato sacks.

The gang is finished, everyone has complete bases. So! Detailed descriptions of my changes below 👇 Alan is not included because he already has a description in the post I introduced him and the most recent post about Alan.

Charlie- I decided to go more the "goat" route with her design. She is nearly as tall as Angel Dust, she just seems shorter than she should because of her pose. She has small feathered wings, to represent her angel heritage, however they are small because they are underdeveloped. She is unable to fly as she cannot move them to the extent needed for flight capability, she can barely move them at all, nor can she tuck or fold them. I gave her more definite horns with a floating apple motif at the top, think of it like jewelry. She often goes by Charlotte although her friends and loved ones call her Charlie.

Vox- Vox is the Hotel Benefactor in this AU and supports Charlie in her ventures. He acts more like a solid father figure than Alastor and is more of an open person. When he was alive, he was a TV host. A charming personality and a kind man at heart. In '55 he was briefly drafted into the Vietnam War until he was too injured to continue and was sent home. He regretted many of the decisions he had to make there, feeling like a monster as he was only 25 at the time. When he returned home he recovered some and resumed his work, this time opting to produce affordable technology for those who could not afford it. Unfortunately this would be his demise. One poorly timed installation of a television set during a thunderstorm led to him being struck by lightning. He still distributes tech after his death through his company Voxtech Industries. I made him a little bulkier than the original and gave him a more 50's look, complete with a 50's TV. He is also still an Overlord.

Niffty- I decided to make her more bug like. I took inspiration from a tortoise beetle and a stag beetle.I didn't change too much with her personality wise, she is still a manic, but she puts more effort into caring for those who can't care for themselves... in her own weird and twisted ways. She runs a company know as NCRIM or Niffty's Cleaning and Revitalizing Interpersonal Maintenance, and she is an Overlord.

Husk- I didn't change too much, his concept is pretty solid to me as a surface level concept. I only tweaked slight things to tend to my au better. In this au he is still an Overlord and still runs his casino.

Angel Dust- I changed Angel quite a bit design wise, but not so much personality. Angel still works for Valentino, still a porn star, and will still love Husk. For the design, I made Angel still very tall and slim, but I gave him more of a solid chest. I like the idea of him having the fluffy chest, but I feel like the "fluff" doesn't move as it should in the show, it is just fluff after all, so it shouldn't be as solid as it seems to be. I also gave Angel some mandibles and the "spider butt". I also changed Angel's hair because it looks right for the show but it looks off for me personally. I also gave him the "small spider feet" I don't really know how to call it, but I gave him thin feet. I also moved his arms up to the shoulder with the other pair, because anatomy I guess, it just made more sense to me.

Sir Pentious- I didn't really change pentious, he's still pretty much the same except for the eye placements on his inner hood and tail. His personality isn't really different either.

Vaggie- I changed quite a bit for Vaggie. I decided to lean into the moth theme more and bring that put in her design. I gave her moth wings and antenna and more anthropomorphic legs. I like to think that the moth look came after her fall, as the time she's spent in hell has changed her like metamorphosis. So the longer she stays in hell the more it influences her, the more she becomes a part of hell. She is heaven born in this au so she would assimilate into being a hell born. I also changed the design of her Spear for no apparent reason other than why not.

Cherry Bomb- She is pretty different than in the show. I haven't changed her personality but her physical appearance is different. I've decided to make her bombs more of a physical part of herself. She has what I depict as horns that "grow" her bombs as a biological process. Like how one kind of insect I can't remember the name of does. I also made her feet into heels, like permanent pumps.

Lucifer- I lent into the goat for the legs to relate him to Charlie more as well as the horns with the apple motif. For his wings, I heard somewhere [don't quote me on this I've never read the bible] I think it was from LovesArt123, that when Lucifer fell his wings burnt and became more like bat wings in structure. I sort of did the same thing for his tail as well. I gave him more of a proper halo, I honestly wasn't planning that but I rolled with it, and I gave him more than one pair of eyes. He's the king of hell, shouldn't he have more eyes to view others with? The pose I used had the person carrying a lantern and I thought it would be funny if he just lanterns to head to the fridge for depression food at night. Miles Quaritch finally sees your new Na'vi body

a/n: So sorry for this coming out so late. It's a little hard trying to write avatar fanfic since my fixations keep changing but a promise is a promise!

Weeks have passed since the mission you had with Miles and his team. Since then you and him haven’t seen each other often. Aside from casual heys and team meetings you guys practically never talked. With the newfound information about the Na’vi base, he was busy coming up with a plan to storm it. Once General Admore heard of the location that was all she wanted to focus on. Getting Miles and his team back out there and “passive the hostels”. But thanks to you it took longer to make a plan. Your words and how you viewed this vast and dangerous world gave him second thoughts about this mission. He constantly tweaked the plan or held off planning altogether. Not everyone noticed but people close to him like you and Lyle did. Speaking of you, today was a very big day for you. Today was the day your avatar was finally ready for you to link with. 

You were standing near your avatar in its chamber. Pressing your palm against the cold glass tube, wanting to feel closer to this new version of yourself. As your human body stood there watching intently, The Na’vi you were still in deep sleep. It was insane how they managed to capture your looks so well, the way your eyes were shaped, the way your hair was, hell even down to the body shape. The major differences are the blue color, the size, and the tail. You were enthralled by your Na’vi, how different yet familiar you looked. You’ve dreamed of this day, the day you could roam this vast planet as one of them and now that dream has become a reality.

“Alright, it’s time to get you set up. Ready to link with your avatar?

It was Max, another one of your good friends. Since you and he study in a similar field of work you were always rambling to each other about work. You haven't seen him in a while too, he’d go on frequent trips to Pandora with the other scientists to study the plants, animals, and Na’vi if they came in contact with them. His words broke you out of your train of thought. You whipped your head around being met with a kind smile, of course, you were ready. 

“Yes, I am.”

You say confidently as you pull yourself away from the glass chamber and follow after Max. Even though you were excited you were just as nervous. Your nerves make your body tense and your breathing grows shallow. It wasn’t a busy day at the base today, hallways were crowded with people due to frequent scouting missions lately. Within a few minutes, you both arrive at your designated linking pod. Max gave a quick rundown of what to expect and what you should do during your time in the pod. It didn’t take long for you to get set up, you loved watching your coworkers link up so you were very familiar with the process. As he talked you through it you started to climb into the pod, the softness of the foam comforting and helping relax your nerves. Now it was time for the process to begin, Max carefully laid you down in your pod and made small adjustments to make sure you were comfortable. Nervousness was written all over your face, clear as day to anyone.

“No need to be nervous, the linking process is not painful at all. When you wake up in your new body it will feel very different so go slow when it comes to moving. Other than that you’ll be okay.’’

He reassured you while placing a comforting hand on your shoulder. You knew this already but hearing it from someone else made you calm down more. You and Max give each other one last smile before he begins the linking process and closes you in your pod. Now you were alone. Just you and the many thoughts that circled your thoughts. As you lay there your heart pounded, the sound loud enough for you to hear and not just feel it shake your being. Now wasn’t the time for that, now was the time to relax and transfer your mind into your new body. So you closed your eyes and took some deep breaths while thinking of things that relaxed you, Pandora's life. As quick as your nervousness came it left as your mind transported your mind to Pandora. You could feel the warmth of its sunbeam on you, the softness of the grass brushing against your body, the sounds of nearby creatures moving through the trees and ground. It was like you were there again. Your heart no longer raced and the only thoughts on your mind were the ones of Pandora. You craved that life again, even if it was for a few moments. Without warning your mind went blank. You felt nothing, you thought of nothing, and for a brief moment, you were nothing but a conscience. Then bright fluorescent lights stained your site. You wanted to get up and cover your eyes from these painfully bright lights but your body was so heavy, like you had sleep paralysis. Slowly your vision came back to you, the bright lights getting no softer as you slowly became aware of your surroundings. Sounds of people running back and forth now filled your ears. It was hard to make out what they were saying and see them, hell you weren’t even sure what was happening. Max told you before you went under that it was normal to not remember what was happening but that too slipped your mind. You were just focused on moving. Right as you tried to pull yourself off the medical bed someone placed their hand on your chest and held you down.

“Stay down for a sec, they need to do some motor function checks.”

Who said that? You asked yourself as your face scrunched up still trying to adjust to the light. From the feeling of their hand, they were not a human. Your first instinct was to shove them back and move anyway but your vision finally got clear when you noticed it was Lyle, your best friend. He was busy looking at something else in the room but still, he held you down. Then 2 more nurses came up to you and started to run some small tests. Seeing how your eyes reacted to light, how your fingers moved, how your ears reacted to sound, and a few more things. Once you were aware of everything you laid back down and just let them do their job. The heaviness of your body dissolved the more you became aware of your body. Your new body felt so different, even though you were several feet larger you felt lighter. 

“Alright now let's get you up.”

Both nurses help pull you up from your lying position in bed so you can start some training. As you sat up you finally got to see what your body looked like up close. It felt unreal to be a Na’vi, you couldn’t help but admire your new features. If it wasn’t for the nurses guiding you upward you would’ve sat there longer just to look at yourself.  It was necessary to do a bit of training before you were allowed to continue with your day. Lyle gave you a few words of encouragement for your training before he too had to go off. 

“Wish I could stay to help but Miles needs me again, see ya later!”

Oh shit Miles! You thought to yourself almost forgetting about him. Since he was always ducked away in his office it was so easy to forget about him and every time he was brought back to your attention you couldn’t shake the thought of him. Thankfully you had to train so hopefully that could distract you a bit. Alongside this new form, new clothes were made for you. Every Na’vi recom could pick So for the next few hours, you trained your body and explored the outside facility. You were getting used to your new instincts like your eagle eye vision and your newfound flexibility. It was fantastic! You felt so alive and now with your new Na’vi form, you can finally get the full Pandora experience. Just the thought of it made your ears perk and your tail twitch. You were thrilled to be in your new body, you were thrilled for all the new things you could experience like bonding with creatures. It wasn’t long after the training that you got back to work inside, most of your equipment was too small to handle so you helped out elsewhere. For the most part, you hung around Max, telling him about all the cool things you could do. He enjoyed having you company as he worked on his assignments. It was nice sharing a conversation with someone who had the same passion as pandora as you did. Most people here were only focus on money or any excuse to escape Earth, it was rare to find anyone here who wanted to work here for none selfish-ish reasons. 

“Hope I ain’t bothering anything but Miles needs you for a bit.”

Lyle butted his head into your conversation with Max to tell you that. He gave your shoulders a firm squeeze before dragging you off. 

“Hey!- ugh, see you later Max!”

You shouted to him before Lyle pulled you in front of him and nudged you off. Lyle seemed to also be happy that you were Na’vi now. The grin on his face still ide like when you transferred into your new body. He kept shoving you down the hall like it was urgent. 

“Why does that old fart need me? I thought he was busy with the general again and stop pushing me damnit!”

“Alrighttt. I don’t know why, might be to look over the information you two gathered on the mission. All he said was to bring you in quick while he was rummaging through papers.”

He pulled back from you and crossed his arms, letting out a small sigh as he continued to walk alongside you. Even in your Na’vi you still came up a little shorter than him, only by a foot or so. As you both walked he talked about the mission Miles and the general were plannin. He said they didn’t have an exact plan yet due to last-minute changes and uncertainty from him. You too found it weird but one of the last statements was how you changed him. Enough to start him on the path of thinking logically when it came to his harsh actions. You didn’t think much of it until Lyle brought it up to you. Once you both made it there Lyle patted you on the back and wished you luck as he went off elsewhere.

“For a soldier, he is a bit strange.” 

You mumbled to yourself as you headed into his office, first, you knocked but he didn’t answer so you just walked in after a few moments of waiting. And there he was. Not paying attention to anything else but the papers in front of him. He was hunched over his work like his life depended on it.  He brushed his fingers through his short hair and he grumbled incoherent words under his breath. He glanced up quickly, only catching the bottom half of you. He assumed you were one of the other recom members. He smacked his teeth and with a deep sigh, he spoke. 

“You’re not who I asked for, excuse yourself and get who asked you to get, and stop wasting my time.”

His voice was strong and demanding, it was clear that he was aggravated and stressed. Just then you closed the door behind you and walked up to his desk. Your tail whipped with curiosity as you watched him look over and over the files. 

“We haven’t seen each other for a while and that's  how you speak to me? Wowwww.”

He says with sarcasm written all over your voice and face. You threw your hands up and turned away from him. As soon as you spoke he stopped everything, the papers he had slipping out of his hand and onto the desk. His eyes finally meet your figure. His ears narrowed as he looked at you. That was when you turned back to him. A sly smile on your face as your tail moved quicker. It was hard to hide your emotions with your new body, you looked like a cat ready to pounce. Once he figured out who it truly was he too couldn’t hide his excitement. He stood up from where he sat at his desk and walked over to you. His hands held his hips as he waltzed up to you, that sly smile he always wore on his face. Even in your new form, he was still roughly a foot taller than you.

“Well look at you buttercup...You're just as eye-catching as you were in your human body…”

“Thank you, sir, probably the nicest thing you’ve ever said to me pfft.”

You both laugh a bit before Miles gently grabs your chin and examines your face. His tail slowly swayed as his low-set yellow eyes took in every inch of your face. You and him have grown fond of each other's physical touch so you didn’t stray from his touch. He stood still as he took your presence. His eyes longed for you, it had been a while since the both of you had been alone. He took one step closer to you and pulled you into a kiss. A deep sigh of relief escaped his lungs as his lips pressed firmly against yours. You were a little surprised but kissed him back, leaning closer to him as he did the same. You let your hands rest on his chest while his other hand held your lower back, not wanting you to move just yet. His tail like many times before wrapped around your leg as he continued the kiss a few moments longer. Finally, you both pull back, just looking at each other in comforting silence. He smiled at you, the tension and stress melting away thanks to you. 

“Hm..That’s what I needed…But since you are here, I could use your help.”

He nodded and let him lead you to his desk. He sat down in his chair and had you sit across his lap. Before he got back to work he couldn’t help but yo admire you, he looked at you with the same look in his eyes when you were in your human body. No matter what form you were in he still found you captivating. He wasn’t big on expressing things like that verbally but he could physically. While he worked and explained some of the details to you, you brushed your fingers against his short hair and he kept his arm around you. That's why he needed you, he didn’t want you to work or run errands. He wanted your presence again, he needed it. And now you were here to do so.

Lincoln

* I would first of all like to thank Lincoln for being shaped like a model (long boy) and thus very easy to dress up

* I forgot that Link needed to tear off his sleeves to make Normal a diaper in lesson 14, so in lesson 11 he grabs a sweater when I assume he goes home between escaping the FBI and returning to school

* Lincoln is so comically tall the Teeny costume (which I just moved from Normal to Link and edited to match Link’s pose) only reaches his knees. It actually looked so stupid that I had to edit it to make the Teeny costume slightly longer in the legs

* Link has two roombas in his room, he’s a clean boy, he isn’t walking around Taylor’s house in his bare feet, he doesn’t trust like that, it’s sock time

Scary

* I actually originally planned for Scary to have more piercings, but I forgot to add them in lesson 1. Let’s just say her mom won’t let her go crazy on the piercings, from what we’ve heard in rad facts (wouldn’t let her get a tongue piercing or learn guitar) that sounds in character

* I wanted to do the Shit Garden logo on Scary’s shirt like one of those metal bands that only people who like metal can actually read, but I only have so much time and patience

* I want so badly to play with Scary’s hair more, but I haven’t really had the chance, I hope there will be more excuses to give her different styles in the future, I like the braided bun for fancy occasions a lot

* Big T-shirt and shorts are peak pyjamas, love it for her. Also, you don’t need to know how long I spent trying to come up with something for her shirt to say

Normal

* Don’t tell anyone but I kind of miss drawing Teeny’s big stupid head every day, it was easy comedy

* I did actually draw a Jimmy Buffet design on the shirt before scribbling over it, you can barely see if you look closely

* I don’t actually have anything to say about Normal’s dance outfit so I guess I’ll just take this opportunity to talk about my Normal design in general. He was the one it took me the longest to land on and I’m still unsure if I’m happy with him, I want his hair to be long enough to just sorta hang and be greasy, but not so long that it will get in his face too much and I still consistently fail on it

* Not much to say about his sleepover fit either. Froggy :)

Taylor

* I had originally planned for everyone to be wearing their bracelets on their left wrists but in episode 8 it’s mentioned that Taylor is wearing his on his right, at that point I think I had only drawn Taylor’s bracelet once so it was easier to just change his and let him be a special boy (also, they keep the bracelets on post-FBI because Taylor never really has an opportunity to take it off and the others wear theirs in solidarity)

*After Lesson 10, Taylor swaps out the crest of friendship from Digimon to wear his dad’s ring of swapping as a necklace, he tends to grab at it when his dad or the topic of betrayal comes up

* I hate Taylor for his dance fit. No longer my favourite son

* Not really a design note but I watched the Sailor Moon dub in three parts on youtube with my little sister huddled around our home computer after school, we’re real OGs

Hermie

* I finally decided to add the Joker makeup to my Hermie design, I found a powdery sorta brush to use for it so now he’s a true clown. Good for him I guess

* You may notice that I’ve tweaked my Hermie design and his colour scheme just a little bit. This is because white Hermie is dead and you know what? Good for him. I also made his hair a little wavier for Scam, you’ll start seeing the updated Hermie design (as if you can tell there’s a difference other than the very slight change in hairstyle) in lesson 16, because I drew the lesson 15 pages before episode 23 came out and I wasn’t going to go back and change them

* Stupid Joker tie. Hate it

* No sleepover fit for Hermie. Tragic. They need to have another sleepover and include him

GASP MY FIRST ASK ABOUT MY OCS????? I was wondering if anyone actually wanted to know about them or if they just wanted to see spiderverse stuff (which I still love, the hyperfixation is still going strong)

Unu is a fire deity (or minor god, take your pick) whose main objective is to hunt down demonic creatures who have seeped into the mortal world from his world. Unfortunately he himself can only go down to earth for short bursts of time to eviscerate the monsters because his body isn’t meant to exist in theirs.

If he stays too long, things will start to get blurred, resulting in either the two worlds crashing into each other or completely ripping each other apart. His ultimate goal is to seal the rift to stop the creatures from spilling into the mortal world. He has to find the one on his realm and the on on earth.

The monsters also have that effect of essentially destroying earth except it’s a slower since they’re not as strongly energized as Unu. So to help, he’s enlisted humans (avatars) for the past few hundred years to aid him.

He gives them a small share of his abilities. Not enough to start ripping holes in the earth’s space but enough juice to kill the creatures (I haven’t thought of a good name for them yet :o). In return they get enhanced strength, longer life spans and some of his abilities (manifesting fire, some immunity to sickness, resistance to the sun/skin cancer etc.)

he trains them in the dream scape where his mental body and the human’s body can exist freely. It’s also how he introduces himself to them. If they agree to be his avatar, he bonds with them so he can transfer his abilities without them getting injured internally.

This csn’t really be reversed easily and almost always results in unu getting very attached to the avatar and being determined to keep them alive for as long as possible so that they can live happy lives once they stop being avatars.

Unu selects humans by their physical traits usually, but some humans can actually pass on the bond to other humans in extreme situations + they have to be close to the next human.

Now that I’m done with the exposition I can finally get to the questions you asked! Sorry for it being long :((. Anyway Unu’s past avatar, (mark’s older brother) died in battle with a pretty bad monster and mark happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, resulting in the bond automatically transferring to him bc of his closeness with his brother, roman, and the situation.

Mark and unu actually kinda hated each other at first, unu because he really misses Roman and mark was never supposed to be an avatar (especially since he’s literally 13 years old) and mark because he saw unu as the person who basically killed his older brother.

They met in the dream scape, mark agrees (forces unu to make him an avatar) to be an avatar because he wants to get justice for his brother despite unu’s insistence that he seriously shouldn’t (he can’t really stop mark since the bond is already in place.) eventually they get closer, talk out their issues, all the hurt/comfort. And mark gets better at fighting demons.

unu grudgingly trains him because he’s not asshole enough to send out a kid (even though he’d rather not send mark out at all) and plus in honor for roman since he does genuinely feel completely responsible and guilty for his death. Which is also why he trains mark really hard.

So sorry this is so long and probably kinda hard to get since I’m not good at explaining. Here’s a doodle :D I tweaked mark’s design a little bit and changed his hair since I didn’t really like it.

Unu actually can exist in a very watered down form of his on earth. Usually the impact is so minuscule that regular humans can’t see him, as shown in the doodle. He’s like a little ball of fire.

i was trying to pinpoint what made me uncomfortable with the "final" product

and looking at him again, sure he needs some tweaking

arms a little longer and head is a little big maybe? i stepped out of my thick outline comfort zone but his eyes are still a little cartoony, maybe i could give him a slightly less wooden pose, sure

but once i saw him on my tablet again without the dreaded "posting him to social media" feedback loop my brain was doing, he looked fine again. most of my unreasonable, self-deprecating thoughts were mostly gone

i still want to improve, and make him look better (and make a better game overall), but my brain gets all funky when other people see my art

i think he needs some scars on his hands. i avoided giving him any on his face because my last attempt at his hair made him look a bit too much like Aizawa from MHA (and i don't even watch it! my brain was just all "don't let people think you're just making an Aizawa dating sim") and i panicked lol

here is his earlier look:

the hair was more in-character but the hair in the face made it harder to see his expression changes for the sprites, and i realized it was that center bang giving me Aizawa vibes and the right one was blocking his eye for expressions

i feel like his final hair needs to be in-between the two, and maybe the clear irises give off a better crazy vibe...hmm

there's one more scar i need to add for story reasons that slipped my mind but thats easy enough

his original sketches had red eyes but even i thought that was a little too much, but while the green looks nice im not married to it

there was a bit where i wanted to make the greasy shine on his hair a different color to make it look more ragged and less like he just got his hair done, lol but i wasn't sure what color worked

i need to figure out how to make his hair more disheveled and greasy-looking, he still looks kind of nice. i had the thought of making it a bit longer to have length to work with with like tangles and stringing? idk

his original eyebrows were more realistic, but they were harder to see under his hair

his original coat was more puffy and with a furred collar but it kind of undermined his whole vibe, and i gave him one of those slightly k!nky-looking holster straps at one point but he doesn't have a g*n lol

so in conclusion, im definitely going to fix his eyes to be less toony and lend themselves better to crazy expressions, and his next sprite iteration will be less wooden and fix more of the things i mentioned, bur overall im less wigging out and more thinking rationally about it, ha

if anyone has any suggestions about how to make him look a little more put-together, im open to it. i don't plan on changing his overall design, but feedback is nice c:

Ok lol so like I said the other day, I'm thinking of making a new s/i oc for Utonium and I still struggle with her design ;w; so I'm thinking like maybe make her a counterpart of Chloe? Maybe like Alt version of Chloe? I'm still so attached to Chloe and I like her design and I'm not ready to let her go fully so I just probably tweak the clothes and hair lol I hope you guys look forward for her 🤧🤧🤧

I thought of the name Cindy cuz I think it's cute and also it starts with a C :3

And of course I already have a story for her and how she met Utonium. Basically she's an aspiring artist but she's not that successful because either she doesnt have strong network with ppl and she probably a bit socially awkward lol so despite being an art grad she ended up working as an assistant teacher at the Pokey Oaks (I'm thinking of making her as an art teacher there too but she doesnt really teach lol) and only does her art thing as a side hobby but anyway one day she landed a spot for an art gallery/exhibition thing at a university downtown Townsville and somehow Utonium was an honor guest. I always think that Utonium likes a lot of niche and fine things and that includes art as well especially Minimalism and Italo Futurism art so somehow he was attracted to Cindy's painting and ended up looking at her painting much longer, studying the edgy lines of the branch and the stars.

Cindy's a bit nervous it because despite how much she wanted to have her art showcase to people she always feel a bit anxious about what others would think of her work and it's not until Utonium break the silence and say if she made it and she said yeah. Utonium talk a bit about how he really likes the tree branch and mentioned he walked around the hall and nothing really attracts him except the tree and says he's into simple things. They talked a little about art stuff before he asked how much she's selling her paintings and she was surprised because no one actually really buys her paintings before this and asked him if he really means it. He tells her it would look nice for his home since his kids are pretty wild at times and he needs to have the holes on his walls covered with paintings.

I just like to pretend that Cindy made this painting he displays at his living room hgnnn.

Anyway there's more story for sure but im gonna talk about how they actually became friends much much later when i totally figured out her design lol

Sending this from my kinda not main but I was wondering how ningajo had changed from after the release of the movie. The last season I watched was skybound but I don't even remember if I finished that😭 but what I wanted to ask is does the story remain the same as it was b4 then? I've been trying to pick it back up for maybe 5+ years or so? The change in character design def threw me off and I felt kinda lost. (Sorry this is so long orz)

you're correct in saying that the movie changed a lot of things. the character design, the world design, and the tone of the story changed a lot after the movie aired, and another change is lloyd's voice actor changing from jillian michaels to sam vincent (also the voice of double d from ed edd n eddy fun fact)

dw it took me a while to get used to the new designs (i remember being PISSED at the fact that they changed them djkghdkjfhg) keep in mind that there's also a canonical timeskip between s7 and s8

the story is.... well it's ninjago dfgjkhdkfjgh the core story remains the same, aka its a group of silly colorcoded ninja fighting crime and saving the world from being destroyed. again. but seasons 8, 9, and 10, usually referred to as the oni trilogy, have a much darker feel because the writers noticed their more mature audience and wrote to fit, while also still being a kids show.

the main change really happens after animation studios switch from wilfilm to wildbrain. wildbrain era (seasons 11-16) have a different animation ... vibe? like, the animation remains mostly the same, but there's different textures (hair gets textured, you can see every little wrinkle in leather, etc) and faces are animated differently, as well as using different animation techniques as is standard for a different animation studio, but the story also gets a big change

a bunch of things get tweaked post-wildbrain. for instance, the series is just ninjago now, not the masters of spinjitzu. elemental masters are just elementals. missions are called quests. sensei wu is now master wu (though i'm blanking on if this happens s8 or s11). they sometimes have anime segments (don't ask). and uh. most of the plotlines from the previous seasons are kinda... ignored? like, wildbrain heavily prioritizes its own seasons rather than the previous seasons, meaning a lot of that stuff becomes obsolete. tragic, but nothing we can do about it.

the main change in the wildbrain era is that the episodes are all 11 minutes long now instead of 22 minutes. this is remedied by having More episodes per season, but the shorter episodes are an interesting factor in how the seasons play out. many say that the seasons feel too rushed because of that, and i have to agree on some cases. but theyre decently handled for the longer seasons (s11 and s16)

so... the story. is it the same ninjago as s1-10 was? hard to say. post-movie was the start of an era for sure, and wildbrain had some thoughts about where it would go, but i can't say it's all bad. the oni trilogy is a masterpiece of writing (though its not wildbrain, its still wilfilms), s11 is pretty good if you ignore the bigger flaws, s12 is . ok i'm not the biggest fan but it's a very fun season its just clunky dkfghkdjhg but season 13 is amazing and i love it. seasons 14 and 15 are also good :) seabound esp

don't talk to me about the finale. i WILL rant about it. too much. this is a threat.

but despite it all, it's still ninjago. the same fun cast, the same stories of the ninja being dumbasses and saving the world, they just look slightly different. if the redesigns really bother you, there's not much i can say about that unfortunately. it took me a very long time to get used to it and i was in HEAVY denial for a while, but you warm up to them. after all, they gave us superstar <3 and that's all that matters

also you do not need to finish skybound it is . it's skybound! watch hands of time (s7) tho its very funny

tldr: i can't say whether the story stays the same post-wildbrain (s11-16), but i heavily recommend watching the oni trilogy. if the new designs squick you out, there's not a lot you can do but get used to it. if you want to give it another chance, go for it!! the movie either scared people off or invited people in, so it's up to you how you feel about the movie and its effect on the show. all i can say is you gotta make your own opinion about it, and if you wanna liveblog or stream any more thoughts about ninjago, feel free to message me again!! my askbox is open (and so are my dms if anything :D)

I said I’d probably do Autumn next, but screw it, we’re doing these characters instead

So as I’ve stated in some other post somewhere, Ariel and Salt are the parents of Mercury, Venus and Saturn, and Erik here is their uncle, and Ariel’s younger brother

I said I was thinking about changing Ariel and Erik’s names, but honestly I think they both still work for each other, so I decided to keep them, other than changing Erik’s “c” to a “k”

Also, this is my first time ever drawing them. And to be honest, while I like how Ariel turned out, I’m not the biggest fan of how the other two turned out, particularly Salt. Might need to tweak designs more

Honestly it’s probably because I knew what I wanted from Ariel’s design, but not so much Salt’s. And for Erik, I wanted the top bit, but realistically I needed to make his hair longer, and I think that’s what got me

But anyways, let’s get into them

So as you can probably tell, Ariel is an albino. That’s kind of the reason I put Erik in there, to show what traits came from her side

I’m aware that albinos tend to have white hair, but I had already given her white fur, so I thought making it pink would be better, as they aren’t just the same color. Maybe I could have made the pink lighter, but ah well

I think originally, Erik was supposed to be albino too, and they might have been twins, but also I didn’t understand how albinism worked at the time, so I thought that certain albino traits could be passed down. That was why Saturn was originally grey, as his fur was his mother’s white but darker. And for Erik’s daughter, she had white fur and red eyes. But I’ve decided now that those traits are just normal white fur and red eyes from her mother’s side, so Erik doesn’t have to be albino. Also it makes him seem more ordinary, if that makes sense

Also by the way, Salt named the kids, hence why they all have kind of weird names. He’s just got a weird naming scheme and Ariel just went along with it, she didn’t mind

So anyways, as mentioned in their kids’s post, Salt was a blacksmith, and Erik was a doctor. I don’t know what Ariel did though

Ariel was considered kind of a weirdo. I don’t really know how to describe it, she just gave off an odd vibe. I want to say she’s weird in a way like Luna Lovegood, but I haven’t actually consumed any Harry Potter media with Luna in it for probably a decade, so I can’t really say. She also has the weird psychic powers like her children, hers being red and probably more potent than theirs

Salt had metal powers, and I don’t know what to give Erik, since he originally had psychic powers, but I decided to change that. Maybe just give him light or healing powers like his daughter

Anyways, so because of her odd powers, Ariel would tend to just give off a vibe that would make people stay away from her, like they’d just rather not be around her. However, whatever that odd aura was, it had no effect on Salt. People would think she’s weird and warn to stay away from, and he’d just a see a relatively normal lady. Yeah sure, maybe some of the things she talked about were odd, but she didn’t seem like anything people were talking about, just a nice lady

They started out as friends who liked to talk, and eventually fell in love. During this time, people were telling Salt to just stay away from her, but he just thought people misunderstood her

I feel like I’m setting Ariel up to be malicious. She wasn’t, she was just a weirdo. I feel like I’m reusing descriptors too much, but I really don’t know how else to describe her

Ariel would often be fascinated by his metalworking, and would ask plenty of questions about it when they first were starting out, and he’d be happy to answer her questions, as he can appreciate someone who appreciates the more intricate aspects of his craft. And on the flip side, Ariel would talk for hours on end about the things she was interested in. Salt generally didn’t know what she was really talking about (he listened he just know what it was. Like having someone talk to you about a series you just don’t know), but he knew it made her happy, so he’d happily listen to her

As for how the two died, I believe it was due to disease, though I never specified what, nor do I really know what diseases kill

Ariel was the first to go, and it was around her death that Erik came to their town, though it was only temporary at the time to help her and her family. Erik couldn’t save her, and he tried to help Salt and their kids out after this time. Salt tried to pull the weight to support his family, and when he fell ill too, Erik tried to get him to stop overworking himself, as he was just making his affliction worse, but he refused to listen, and he unfortunately passed on too. It was after this point that Erik decided to move his family over to their town, as he felt he couldn’t just leave his niece and nephews all alone. And since then that’s where they’ve stayed

I don’t really know what sort of relationship Ariel and Erik had. Erik didn’t have the same weirdness as Ariel and was a relatively normal person, and he was relatively aware of Ariel’s weird aura. I don’t want to say they were distant but I also don’t want to say they were particularly close, I’m not sure

Anyways yeah, that’s these guys. Hopefully next I’ll do Autumn, but we’ll see. Oh and also, they probably won’t all share a common theme, since there usually isn’t that many who do. Like, for Autumn I’ll probably just put her and the vigilante, but if I put another character (which honestly I don’t think I won’t) it’ll just be someone else from the story

Welcome to Take Five, my recurring beauty and nutrition column on ELLE.com culled from a lifelong passion for animals, the outdoors, and feeling good. For me, the notion of taking five—whether the number pertains to ingredients in a food or just a moment to ask your body how it's feeling—can make all the difference. Consider this your 300-second-long wellness retreat.

I grew up in a household in which "no" wasn't said too often. Typically, this can create an issue in the realm of authority, but in my case the environment allowed me to experiment, dream, and nurture any creative endeavor I wished to explore.

When I was seven years old, I remember asking Mom if I could go to the front yard and pick a rose to make rose perfume. "Sure, go for it," she said, undoubtedly knowing that floral-scented perfume would never come from the concoction I was brewing in the kitchen.

She was right. The wilted petals simmering in water muddied with plant juice in the microwave was never going to smell anything like a department store fragrance. This was around the same time I was nursing an undying love for lollipop rings. I recall asking Mom why the blueberry-flavored pops were much "bluer than a blueberry." I can't remember her response to that one. And while I now understand that so much more goes into many of the products that stimulate our senses—many of which purposefully evoke our sense of connection with things that exist only in nature—I still think that that little girl boiling roses was onto something.

Why is it that we can consciously ignore the difference between the taste of strawberry-flavored candy and a true strawberry, and yet we call them by the same name? Why do we walk into a grocery store knowing full well that apples aren't meant to come in vibrant reds or greens with shiny, almost mirrored exteriors, and yet we have taught ourselves that those ones are "better"? Why do we douse ourselves in perfumes labeled with the word "ocean," but turn our noses up at the salty smell of the sea?

Have we become so reliant on the potency, the intensity, and the familiarity of such products that we no longer find the subtleties of nature as appealing? Why do we need the condensed scents, the explosion of flavor, or the shockingly colorful?

In all honesty, I'm guilty of it too. I gravitate toward the bright green kale and the yummy, unrealistic fragrances because I believe we are all programmed the same, guided by our senses. But while I appreciate products that are designed to stimulate them in a way that augments every experience, I also listen to the tiny voice whispering to get back to the basics, to grab that bottle of olive oil off the counter and use it as a moisturizer for the week, and to create my own natural deodorant by combining lavender, vanilla, and coconut oil.

I believe in the balance found in using both store-bought items as well as what is available to us in our home pantry. And while there are justifications for both, there is a lot of joy that comes from creating our own products and knowing what is in them.

Below, my favorite all-natural products that you can buy anywhere, use anytime, and tweak to complement your existing routine. Please note, of course, that while these combinations work for my skin, I cannot guarantee my exact formulas will be beneficial for everyone. I am a big proponent of trial and error, but always consult with your dermatologist if you have sensitive or problematic skin.

"I like to use olive oil as the base for everything skin/body/hair related. I like to add an inch or two to a squirt bottle filled with water and a few drops of an essential oil, like lavender, to spray over my entire body after every shower. I also combine olive oil, coconut oil, and rose hip oil to create my favorite moisturizer. While you might associate 'oil' with 'oily skin,' fear not. You will be surprised at how quickly your skin absorbs all of it!"

"Growing up with a mom who does hair for a living, I was given a lot of recipes for DIY hair treatments that may seem a bit strange, but they're definitely worth trying. One requires avocado, olive oil, apple cider vinegar, and honey. You can combine all of these, or use them separately, whatever works best for you. If you eat eggs in your home, those make a great addition as well. Leave it in for as long as you can stand it, then rinse, wash, and voilà!"

"I also highly recommend getting a diffuser for your home, as essential oils are highly beneficial when inhaled. For example, I use lavender and rosemary oil in my aromatherapy diffuser at night to help with coughing or headaches after long flights. I also add a few drops of rosemary oil to my shampoo and conditioner to keep my hair follicles healthy. Coffee grounds, cinnamon, cane sugar, and coconut oil also make an amazing body scrub. I learned about the benefits of this scrub while living in Russia almost 10 years ago, after spending a lot of time in the local bathhouses."
