All Tolkien content is allowed: that means The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Silmarillion, Rings of Power, Unfinished Tales, History of Middle-earth, etc. If Tolkien even breathed near it, it’s fair game.

Post-argument tension. They didn’t mean to yell. But now Character B has Character A up against the kitchen counter.

want to join the fandom cause it seems fun seeing fanarts and you and others interacting but I don't know how...and with the whole ai thing im scared...

my advice: just do it

really! sometimes all you really need is a leap of faith, and that was exactly how I dropped into the cod fandom. When I joined the ghoap discord server I talked to one of the artist I really like and respected from my lurking time (hi @bressynonym) aaaand the rest is history

I didnt know how to draw properly, nor digitally, all I did was scribbling on OneNote (yeah!) and rambled about cod characters, it is daunting and it is scary to interact but after a while? you may just be able to find someone to brainrot together with

start small, like commenting, reblogging, talking, chatting- doesn't have to be towards artist/writers, it could be the art/fic enjoyers!

you need to put yourself out there if you want something

as to if you want to start in the fandom as a creator, here's some more tips (which are all based on my experience, I am no pro at doing this, hell Im still learning myself, and I am by no means speaking these on behalf on others!)

establish a goal: what are you making? fandom based? original creations?

as with starting new, everything may take a while for stuff to happen, you'll feel like you're speaking to the void at times (esp with original arts, but do know that your stuff do get perceive by others as time goes, I would advise to draw fandom stuff as a beginning to get that boost going if you want! or else it's going to be quite hard to get things rolling)

imo this is hardest part of any new creator, you'll have to bear with it and try not to give up (but I understand how incredibly demotivating it could get, there were times when I stopped posting about Raven entirely, but eventually I post it anyway cuz surely someone out there will like them, it just takes a lot of patiences and perseverance)

btw, engagement can also vary from time to time, you may be booming for a bit, then suddenly you dont, it is a cycle that will bound to happen

take rest regularly, and I mean a break from social media because numbers, discourse and everything can get to you, very quickly (I cannot emphasise this enough)

the numbers are not worth it over your mental health (comes with practice to really solidify this thought)

study the algorithm (pain): see what other creators are doing to get where they are, what tags are they using in their post? what features/niche do people like?(this is, if you really want to grab some form of engagement, bcuz reminder in the end you are creating art for yourself first!)

example: I think posts would get more reach if you tag it with the ship name first, followed by the characters' name (doesn't work all the time tho)

that's the thing about algorithm, it is ever-changing, and you'll have to learn to adapt with it when it does!

expanding on that, studying algorithm could be about ships (for example, ghostsoap is most popular in the fandom), or really good rendered art/flashed out fic that leaves your jaw on the floor, or ships that gets lesser attention in general which puts you, who make content about them, easier to be brought into the light (like Faralex)

bUT, it can also be personality!

(again, not saying this is meant for everyone and strictly from my own experience + what I observe) for me, I made up the lack of my art by establishing a personality: a wild panda who yaps about price and their oc and also kinda everywhere in the place (just like this post LOL), OR you're the person who named themselves after Soap's ash particle number OR you're the one who likes bottom Ghost- literally anything goes, you want to make an impression in different ways, some more funny/goofier than others but it works (be mindful and stay respectful tho, dont wanna be the asshole in the fandom now do ya?)

efforts ≠ engagement (not all the time, but most time) and this is a fact. Sometimes, you can't expect a piece you did for 10+ hours to get thousands views and likes, especially in a fandom space. You need to understand algorithm is that wonky. (very disheartening, but again, you make the art for you and the few others who genuinely likes them, and those people can go a long way) be mentally prepared for such events, and try not to beat yourself up too much for it

ultimately tho, do it, do it scared but do it anyways and again, draw the things that bring you joy, I hope these could be helpful in some ways!

How many followers do you have??? My writing never gets notes so I want to know how to 🙏

i’m a bit over 3k right now, but in reality it’s bc i’ve been here for quite a bit !! i know it may seem tough right now and it’s easy to get discouraged when you start paying attention to the numbers, but just know that it really doesn’t matter !!! i’d rather have 50 followers that are active and give me feedback than thousands of followers that just idly interact with your stories; trust me, it’ll take some time before you can truly gain any traction (unless you blow up suddenly with a post) it took me like a year lol and by then i figured i was gonna remain as a quiet ghost blog forever

(went rogue and gave terrible “advice” under the cut. sorry.)

i don’t exactly have any advice,, but more things i’ve noticed that work: first of all, some fandoms are just a little more quiet and smaller than others. it’s important to realize that some goals just don’t work out for every community— (ex: i wanna get 10k notes on a post !! well… it’ll take a miracle to reach those notes here on moablr,, it’s not a very big community and its activity can fluctuate. the equivalent of 10k notes on here is like. 4/5K at its best, and it’s still very hard to achieve !!!) but realizing that can help dismiss the numbers a bit, if that makes sense.

but second of all, tag your fics ! and tag!!!! them!!!! PROPERLY !!!!! there’s no doubt you’ll get blocked if your txt fic is showing up in the bts tag because you thought it’d get more attention. it can be tempting to, but in the end it just clogs the feed and can make your work hard to find.

something important though, pay attention to how many followers different tags have! if you’re tagging your fics with “tomorrow x together fan fiction” and it has like. 1k followers, it won’t give you as much reach as “txt fanfic” which could have 5k and give you better reach.

another thing that could help is the formatting of your fics! if it’s in a fancy font or bright colored text that makes it difficult to read, it’s possible that readers will just give up and move onto something else. headers and titles are also important! even if it’s just the most basic stuff (a row of 3 pics from pinterest) it could make a huge difference bc of its appeal! and if you don’t really know how, i’d suggest going through the txt fic tag and looking at others as an example; there’s a clear formula, and it’s really easy to follow once you learn it.

and when starting out, it’s important to be a constant presence on your blog!! it doesn’t mean that you have to post fics every week; sometimes just interacting with others and even opening up asks for small soft/hard thoughts is enough! if people see that you’re here to stay, they’ll be much more inclined to follow you and give their support. i can’t stress this enough, but building community here is important !!! interact with other blogs, make mutuals, give feedback and send asks!! it keeps the place thriving and is just straight up fun lol

but at the end of the day, if you find yourself only focusing on numbers and itching to be the best on here, moablr will quickly become a nightmare. write because you enjoy it, because you have stories to tell, and the rest will follow— there will always be a crowd for you, it just takes a bit of time for them to find you.

i hope this could be somewhat useful…. i’m sorry for responding so late, i really wanted to set time aside to be able to say all this!!! also i tried answering your ask once before and my page refreshed and erased everything lol SORRY!!!! 😖

Hey! Generally reblogging and adding your own commentary either by adding to it or in the tags is going to be highly encouraged. Tag your stuff as neccessary, especially to help organize or get it in the right searches. Reach out to people in fandoms and don't be afraid to send an ask to say you appreciate someone's post! I've also noticed you have your replies off, your asks are off, and your messages are set to only blogs you follow(that one is good though imo). You can change these settings to what youre comfortable with at any time, you are entitled to your boundaries and personal space. Block anyone you do not like. If you are uncomfortable with them, block them. There is no penalty to this.

Im stealing this from THIS POST but I don't wanna just retype all the same info out so here's the basic rules:

to those of you who are moving here from tiktok, from someone whos used both tiktok and tumbr for years... 1. DO NOT censor your posts dont censor sex, abuse, suicide, dont censor it. we dont have censors like tiktok does, you wont be banned for talking about these things and tagging them properly helps people avoid them (also, we dont have shadowbanning here) 2. we dont really have an algorithm you follow who you follow, and you see posts from who you follow or what you search. the 'for you page' is basically useless here. this also brings me to my next two points 3. dont crosstag we get it, on tiktok you have to crosstag for reach, but thats not really a thing here. just tag your posts properly (also posters often leave more info about the post in the tags!! and when you reblog stuff you can leave your own notes in the tags, kind of like the old "repost comments" on tiktok) 4. dont expect to go viral/be famous "viral" isnt really a thing on here (at least not for the average blogger). your posts will probably get 2-10 likes and you wont get nearly as many followers than on tiktok. thats just how tumblr is 5. blocking is your best friend tiktok is VERY discussion based, and while tumblr is much more discussion based than other social medias, its still not a good place for ragebait/discourse. dont interact, itll make your experience worse in the end, just block and move on 6. you cant go into someone elses house and start rearranging their furniture this is tumblr, not tiktok. dont diss old tumblr users for how they use the site or try to change them, thats like going into someone elses house and trying to rearrange their furniture. we've been here longer and we're familiar with the site and its culture, either find your niche, adapt, or find a different app

And a point added on:

Another important point You need to actually reblog posts for this site to work as it should. Liking posts only saves them in a spot that no one checks except for the user who liked them. Most people have their liked posts hidden. Also, this site has a spam bot problem. One way we weed those out is to check the blog to see if it's actually being used to post legitimate content. If there is absolutely nothing on your blog you're getting blocked and some users may just straight up report you as spam as a precaution. Not to mention that the posts you reblog will only be seen by you and whoever follows you. Tagging it "fyp" does absolutely nothing.

Other than that, have fun! This place is for you to enjoy things so go do that. Share your art, write your stories, tell someone their AU is cool, reblog a funny cat picture. You'll learn and get the hang of lingo as you go.

I’m not from ‘round these parts of the internet and I dunno anyone irl that uses it. Tell me what is and isn’t cool to say and so on.

hmm this post is just me venting and rambling about my social anxiety and such silly stuff so like really genuinely feel free to ignore, mostly just trying to ease my stress levels somehow I guess lol

k so I don't really know how or what to write or how to voice my thoughts properly atm or whatever. but I guess first of all, I am so stupidly fucking grateful for all the new followers and just people generally liking my stuff over the past like month? two months? I don't remember, but it's just mindblowing how much positivity and such whatever the hell there has been, and I love and appreciate all of you so, so much ok. but also like, idk I feel bad I guess getting all these positive good vibes and words thrown my way and feeling so happy about it, but having no idea how to respond to any of it, feeling like I come off as purposely ignoring people and or acting like I'm better than everybody else not interacting with anybody elses content (I've started to try to reblog stuff and such but even that is a fucking struggle for some reason) or even like try to idk talk to people, communicate, or like give some positivity back somehow. but like, I genuinely don't know how to do that, but I want to so bad. but like shit, I am so fucking afraid of talking to new people. like my social anxiety is really bad, and it's been with me for easily the last 15 years, probably before that. in my mid teens it wasn't that bad but getting older made it worse. it probably was several various elements in my life that led to wherever the fuck I ended up with that but I can't remember atm (asbergers and slight depression might be some of it idk). either way at some point something made me avoid trying to interact with and reach out to people, and then I never tried to remedy that or whatever. though like it's not that I never wanted to, like you know make friends and all that, I still genuinely want to do that somehow (a few attempts have been made in the past, all but one didn't work out bc I don't know how to effin talk to or interact with other people lol), I'm just afraid doing or saying the wrong thing and make a fool out of myself constantly. and I guess getting older isn't helping, like the older you are the more cringe it is to even be on the internet in fandom spaces or however you'd word it. like I'm almost twice as old as a lot of people in this fandom, so ofc on top of everything I don't wanna accidentally come off as a creepy old lady for just trying to be idk polite or something. the last thing I wanna do is to make people feel uncomfortable or unsafe somehow, and since the way I formulate and write things using a lot of stupid silly words and spamming lol at the end of every sentence or whatever is probably not the appropriate mature way for someone 30+ to carry themselves, and as such comes off as even weirder and creepier I'm sorry, I have a hard time formulating my thoughts, there's probably even more bullshit to rant on about. but heck this is more than enough to scare people off as it is I'm sure so I’ll stop lol sorry for uh this wordbarf, just needed to clear some stress-induced brainfog I guess, dealing with mental stuff in general sucks. but ye despite everything ranted about I am trying to do better, jury is still out on how that'll end up though, and how long it’ll take. at some point hopefully I'll stop communicating by just throwing likes at people and nothing else lol but yeah as said, I appreciate all of you and your positivity so much, and I hope you all keep being the awesome selves that you are, and just, genuinely thank you sm <3 and like, feel free to just ignore this whole thing lol it's all good, please go look at some funky dudes being cute instead ok? ok

The Song You Might Have Been (Chapter 1)

Fandom: A Heist with Markiplier/Who Killed Markiplier

Pairing: Prison Attorney (Yancy x Y/N District Attorney)

Summary: In which circumstances occur and the assistant district attorney ends up in the same prison as a certain inmate who might be their only chance at survival.

A/N: Yes, it’s been months. I’m sorry. I had trouble finishing the last chapters so I put off posting it, because I didn’t want to leave you guys hanging if I never finished, and then I got hit with a major bout of depression regarding my writing and a bunch of other stuff in my life.

But, I’m feeling a lot better about myself and my writing, so I thought I’d share what I did have of this fic. Yes, this is the same nonbinary DA from my other series. Please let me know what you guys think!

It’s unthinkable. Except that it isn’t, because it happened.

You’ve been framed for a crime you didn’t commit.

And the frame job is good. Enough to have you arrested. Enough to taint what little good reputation you’d cultivated in the city as a public servant working under the District Attorney.

But not good enough to convince your closest friend.

“Listen,” Damien reassures you, just before you’re hauled off to prison, “Don’t worry, we won’t leave you in there. I’m on this, Mark is on this—”

“Why should I be reassured that your B-list actor friend is interested in my case?”

Damien rolls his eyes. “I understand your doubt, but Mark is well-connected, my friend. His social capital rivals mine. I’m sure he can get a dedicated detective interested in clearing your name.”

“Why do you expect me to trust Mark’s judgment in detectives—”

“My friend, retain some of your optimism, or at least have some faith in me, please? And, listen, while you’re in prison, Make. Friends. Or alliances, at least. You’re going to need someone to keep you alive.”

“What, you don’t think I can look after myself?”

You knew he was right, he is right, but if you didn’t give him a little bit of a hard time like you normally would, you would have lost what little cool you’re retaining.

And so here you are. Being escorted into prison. A non-white, not-quite-male prosecution lawyer.

Great. Just great.

And apparently your reputation precedes you. Once you’ve been processed and properly stripped of almost all your personal possessions (you managed to sneak a picture of your mother into the pocket of your jumpsuit), you find yourself shoved into the outside yard and on the receiving end of stares from just about every prisoner milling about.

Your natural prickly bravery is warring with your fear of being in a place like this with no chance of protection. You find the most uninhabited corner of the yard and lean against the fence, hands in your pockets. Touching the photo in your pocket helps to ground your pounding heart.

Make friends. Easy for Damien to say. He’s not the one with the personality of a housecat only slightly used to human interaction, but that’s what happens when you dare to go against the status quo from the get-go and refuse to take shit from anyone about it.

The big difference between you and Damien is in your political approaches. Damien is transparent, kind, honest, and has enough social capital that the entire city adores him. Even the tabloids don’t dare to trash his reputation and any attempts to do so have fallen flat.

You, on the other hand, are far more cutthroat and firm in your approach. You emphasize justice and cracking down on the criminal element in the city, but you don’t leave out corrupt officials either. You’ve put just as many white collar criminals away as blue collar, and you’ve done so without any particular bias. You’ve created the reputation of an incorruptible crusader, but not someone who pursues a case without being absolutely sure the perp is guilty.

Hence your cynicism about the likelihood of anyone liking you enough to a) keep you alive here in a prison full of criminals you prosecuted or b) clear your name and get you out of prison in the first place.

“Hey!”

You immediately tense up. Please don’t be talking to me, please don’t be talking to me—

“Hey, you’re the attorney that put me in here!”

Jesus Crucified Christ.

You make eye contact with the guy approaching you and, sure enough, you recognize him. A former gang member who’d taken a side job as a human trafficker. Who’d have thought even gangs looked down on that sort of thing? It was thanks to the gang leader himself that this guy was charged in the first place.

“Trent Newman,” you greet nonchalantly. “Long time, no see.”

Newman’s eyes narrow dangerously. He moves toward you like he’s got a shiv in his pocket. What’s the turnover on dead guards and prisoners here? You’ve tried to find out in the past, but the Warden who’d earned the nickname “Murder-Slaughter” didn’t exactly have an open book policy into the kind of prison he ran.

“Well, looks like my luck is turning around!” His hand reaches into his pocket. Shit. Sometimes you hate it when you’re right. “I’ve got something I’ve wanted to give to you since the trial, and now I’ve got my chance!”

You move slowly into a defensive position. Getting shivved on Day One of your prison stint won’t look good for you. “You sure you want to do this now, Newman? With the guards around? With this many witnesses?”

“Do I look like I care?” Newman spits back.

“Well, youse should, shouldn’t ya?”

Newman whirls around and your attention focuses on the guy who just popped up behind him. This inmate has multiple tattoos on his neck and arms, and the sleeves of his shirt are rolled up to his biceps.

“But, c’mon, Boss, this ain’t just any criminal, this is an attorney, this is the attorney—”

“I thought I told you, Newbie Newman. No one gets shivved here without my knowin’ ‘bout it. So why don’t youse go occupy youself elsewhere whilst I welcome our new guest?” This guy’s tone is casual enough, but only an idiot would miss the outright threat underlining his words.

Newman is an idiot, but he’s not that clueless. He tosses one last glare your way before storming off.

Once Newman is gone, this guy saunters up to you with all the confidence of someone who’s been here for too many years to count. “I’ve heard of youse, I think. You’re that big-time attorney somebody, huh? I’ve got quite a few inmates here who’ve got youse to thank for their residence.”

This isn’t off to a promising start, delayed shivving notwithstanding. You wait for him to get to his point.

He inclines his head at you. “Not much of a talker, huh? That’s fine. I loves to chat it up. The names Yancy, by the by.” He rolls his shoulders and cracks his neck. There looks to be a pack of cigarettes stuffed into his rolled up sleeve. “So, what are youse doin’ in here? Get a little tired of following that justice book of youse’s? Take a bribery from the defense? Get a little snort of the good stuff?”

“Frame job,” you answer, against your better judgment.

“So you finally snapped and framed a guy? Can’t say I’m surprised, you lawyer types—”

“No, I was framed,” you correct. You’re not sure why. It’s not like it will matter to this guy.

Yancy’s eyebrows shoot upwards. “Is that right?” When you don’t respond, he leans forward, his eyes squinting at you. “So you tellin’ me youse innocent, then?”

Your brow lifts at him in response. “Would you believe me if I did say that?”

Yancy blinks at you like a baffled cat. He leans even closer, sniffs a few times, and straightens away from you. “Yes, yes I think I could. What were youse framed for?”

Wait? What? Does guilt smell like something? Your arms cross over your chest. “Uh, well, I don’t have any proof on me—”

“This ain’t the kinda place lookin’ for proof, just get on with youse’s tale, huh?”

Well then. This wasn’t exactly how you expected to tell your life story for the first time. This day is already shaping up to be far different from your expectations.

“Another attorney at the office was on the take. Connor Smith.” His office nickname had been “Pit-stain,” but that’s not exactly pertinent to your story. “Leaking information and taking bribes from another public official that I’m pretty sure is embezzling from the charity he’s running. Maybe even funding the new drug empire in the city. I only had been investigating off the books for a week before Smith ended up dead, and the police found evidence implicating me.”

Yancy listens to all of this quietly, nodding along and stroking his chin with two fingers. “I see, I see…” Then he shrugs. “Well, that’s unfortunate for youse, but hey, life’s an unfair bowl of cream, ain’t it? So, while you get comfortable in youse’s cell, I can show youse the ropes of this place—”

“Whoa, whoa, whoa,” you interrupt. “You’re making it sound like I’m never getting out.”

Yancy blinks at you again. “Well, why would youse wanna leave?”

Is he...is he serious? “Why would I want to stay in a prison full of inmates who want me dead?”

“What, like that jackass Newman?” Yancy scoffs. “Look, Gorgeous, many of youse’s arrests are happy to be here. No water bills, hooch wine, no nine-to-five job eating their mind away.” He clicks his tongue and winks. “What more could you ask for?”

Well for starters, you’d like wine not made out of toilet water, but that’s not the point right now. “My freedom, maybe? Because I’m innocent?”

“Hey, what makes you think I’m not innocent myself?”

“Are you?”

“No, but it’s the principal of the thing, ya know? Innocent until proven guilty, and all that nonsense!”

You can’t help it. You laugh. This is so goddamn surreal, and you’re still utterly baffled that this is your life for the foreseeable future. Your laughter catches Yancy off guard and you wave your hand dismissively. “You’re right, you’re right. Still, I think I’ll focus on staying alive until my name is cleared.”

Yancy’s eyes narrow at you again. “What, you think you’re too good for this place, is that it?”

The anger in his voice is confusing. “No? I just...have…” You shrug helplessly. “I have people I need to get back to.”

The anger leaks out of Yancy’s posture as a look of understanding comes over his face. “Ah, I see! Youse gotta piece on the outside, huh? Well, Gorgeous, that’s what conjugal visits are for, I don’t see why that would hold youse up—”

“No, God, no, that’s not what I meant. I mean...ugh, fine.” Against your better judgment, again, you pull your mom’s picture out of your pocket and show Yancy. It’s one of the few you have of the both of you together. Happy. Smiling.

Much to your horror, Yancy yanks the picture right out of your grip. “Hey!”

He skips out of your reach without taking his eyes off of your mom’s image. “Youse the family type, huh, is that it?”

You snatch the picture out of his hand and stuff it back into your pocket. “What if I am?”

“Hey, no need to act all defensively there, Gorgeous,” Yancy reassures. There’s a glint of...something in his eyes. You’d dare to call it regret if you didn’t know better. “But lemme tell you what I’ve learned since coming here, yeah?” He leans in just close enough to make you uncomfortably aware of his soapy smell. The last person to be this physically close to you was Damien. “You’ll forget about youse’s familial bonds soon enough. The past doesn’t survive within these walls, you hear?”

He pulls away from you just as the prison bell rings and you suddenly feel like you can breathe again. “Anyways, you’ll change youse’s mind soon enough. Once you forget about your worries and strife, youse’ll fit right into this luxurious place.”

The man jogs inside with a gang of inmates surrounding him before you can respond.

You don’t see Yancy again until breakfast the next morning.

After a night of anxious sleep on the bunk underneath the cellmate who barely spoke two words to you (you’re pretty sure this is another criminal you condemned in court), you weren’t really sure what to expect at mealtime. You came in long after dinner the day before and your conversation with Yancy left you wrongfooted for many reasons.

(Of course, first things first, you have to deal with the public showers. Hopefully that’ll be the worst part of this experience.)

You settle at a corner table all by yourself. Breakfast consists of a runny but hot oatmeal and a small carton of milk. Your appetite is nonexistent, but seeing as the food situation might not improve anytime soon, you take small bites anyway. You can’t afford to let your strength wane from hunger.

“Are you the framed lawyer?”

You almost choke on your oatmeal as you spin around in your seat and see a giant of a man standing behind you, his forearms crossed. There’s a spider web tattoo on his bald head and a long bushy beard on his chin. “I...might be?”

He nods and sits next to you. The seat creaks underneath him. He pulls a fork out of the pocket of his jumpsuit and takes a giant bite out of your oatmeal. “Boss told me to make sure no one bothers you. The name’s Jimmy.”

By “boss” does he mean Yancy? Why the hell would Yancy bother with giving you a personal guard?

“...oh. Thanks?”

Jimmy nods gravely. “I do what the boss tells me. He’d be here himself, but he had business to tend to with the warden.”

You have nothing to say to that, so you continue eating your oatmeal and continue to just let Jimmy eat off your plate. He asks for your milk carton and you hand it off without a word.

It’s not until breakfast is about to end that the man of the hour himself appears. “G’morning, g’morning, Legal Eagle!” Yancy greets. “How are you and Jimmy the Pickle here getting along?”

“They gave me their milk!” Jimmy reports with a toast of your milk carton.

“Oh, a generous lawyer?” Yancy looks you up and down. “First one to come to this place. That’ll be all, Jimmy, thank you.”

When Jimmy goes to leave, turning back one last time to smile at you with a wave of the milk carton, Yancy takes his place the next seat down from you, feet coming up to rest in the space between the two of you.

“Dare I ask why you assigned me a bodyguard?” Suspicious as you are, you try to convey through tone that you have no problem with having one.

“Can’t have a new inmate die right off the bat, now can I?” Yancy pulls a bread roll out of his pocket and tosses it to you. You catch it in surprise. “Casts a bad look on me. No one dies here without my say-so.”

You take a bite out of the bread roll. It’s a little stale, but it’s much preferable to the oatmeal. “So I’m more useful to you alive right now?” You’re not offended. At this point, you’ll take what you can get until you’re released from Happy Trails Penitentiary.

“You could say that.” Yancy blows a loose strand of hair out of his face. “I was just talking to the warden about your cellmate situation.”

“What about it?”

“Well,” the bell rings, signalling the end of breakfast, and Yancy winks as he swings his feet off and hurries away again, “you’ve got a new one, of course!”

You don’t think much of this until that evening. In the meantime, your first job is in the kitchens washing dishes. There’s a pleasant routine to doing a chore you’re familiar with. The guard in charge of this job is more than terrifying, but he leaves you alone once he sees how quick and efficient you are. (You’re not so naive as to forget that prison guards can be even more dangerous than the inmates.)

Jimmy plops next to you again at lunch and your time in the yard passes, miraculously, without incident.

When it’s time to return to your cell for the night, you see an unfamiliar pair of legs dangling from the top bunk. Then you see the face at the other end of the body.

“What,” you begin with no small amount of suspicion, “the hell are you playing at?”

“I’m sure I have no idea what youse talkin’ about, Legal Eagle,” Yancy (because of course it is) responds in a too-innocent voice.

Looks like that nickname is sticking. Great.

“Listen,” Yancy continues when he sees that you’re not at all convinced at this ‘coincidence’ that has taken place not even twenty-four hours after your arrival. “Like youse said. There are plenty of inmates here who’d like to see you dead. I can hold off most of them, no problemo. But a few are just whack job enough to be out of my hands. They barely listen to the warden, let alone me. Henceforthing, I say that the best bet is to keep an eye on youse myself. I’m a rather busy bee durin’ the daytime, so I’ll be takin’ the night shift, I will.”

He shifts around the bunk until his top half is dangling upside down, right in front of your face. “Unless you’d rather someone sneak in at night and stick ya in youse sleep.”

“I think you know the answer to that,” you retort. “But why put in this much effort to protect a new inmate, and more than that, a prosecuting attorney?” A thought occurs to you and your eyes widen. “Wait. Do you...do you know something about my case?”

Even upside down, Yancy’s face is inscrutable. “I guess you’ll have to figure that out for youself, don’t ya, Gorgeous?” He lifts himself back onto the bed and crosses his ankles. “Why don’t you get some rest, huh? The guard in charge of the kitchens doesn’t take too kindly to cranky inmates who don’t appreciate the work they’ve been given.”

You stand there, glaring at him, for another several seconds before dropping to the floor and doing fifty push-ups. Because you didn’t do your usual twenty-five last night and also because you’re not just going to take this guy’s word as gospel. You’ll wait until he’s asleep first before getting to bed.

Of course i don’t actually know where you stand on this so if you align yourself with maps then don’t mind me have a nice your own bugs bunny meme at you. But if not, yeah. It’s bad and we gotta stand against it. (sorry this came out very long)

i couldn't care less for fictional minors but p*rn of real minors is just 😬🤢🤢🤮

i generally ignore the existence of rpf and that kind of stuff in general so i don't get traumatised for life and it's served me pretty well imo. i'm kinda conflicted about this cause if it gets banned the authors will probably leave it untagged in different fandoms and i really don't wanna be the one having to read a normal looking fic and report it for irl cp and also i don't want it to exist cause imagine looking up your name and finding it on some creepy underage rpf fic (-_-;)・・・

i'm not the best person to think about the best way to deal with this and with everything going on irl rn i usually don't have the time nor energy to have nuanced opinions on this other than reblogging stuff from the people i follow. i've recently tried to tag those opinions into tags like "fiction", "fandom", and "for later" but i've probably left a lot of stuff untagged on tumblr. my views on this are somewhere on the middle; i will ignore it very hard IF it's tagged well enough that i won't catch a whiff of it (and ao3's good at doing that). out of sight out of mind, and that's probably why the irl cp thing got me so confused.

but overtagging is a whole nother can of worms because it just makes tagging harder for tag wranglers on ao3 (who are volunteers) and that's what my post was about anyways. they're trying hard to make sure everything's tagged properly and this influx of trolls will only affect them. the rest of us can just put a hide tags skin or something. it isn't "proving a point" or anything against ao3, it's just making people angry and sad.

this overtagging trend wasn't a "protest" against irl cp tho, it started off as a "protest" against ao3 not taking down "Sexy times with Wangxian". i'll call it stww for convenience's sake. stww was kinda infamous in the mdzs/cql fandom for being really overtagged. around a week or so ago it started adding other fandoms and more tags to it. the author of stww tagged svsss in the fic around 4 days ago and kept adding more fandoms till it reached 8+ fandoms and 1900+ additional tags. ao3 couldn't take it down because it technically hadn't violated it's tos but people got so angry about it that they started overtagging fics to make stuff harder for ao3 and it's volunteers. sometime within those 4 days the author of stww disabled comments on their fic and said something that violated ao3's tos and ao3 took it down. i'm assuming this overtagging thing got adopted as a "gotcha >:D" practice against ao3 in that time too

How Not To Commit Art Theft

Because this is tumblr and people can’t read, I’m gonna start this entire post by saying this:

I DO NOT BELIEVE PEOPLE WHO COMMIT ART THEFT IN 2K18 ARE DOING SO MALICIOUSLY. I SINCERELY BELIEVE PEOPLE SIMPLY DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY ARE DOING IS WRONG, AND THAT NO ONE IS DOING THESE THINGS TO BE AN JERK OR BECAUSE THEY WANNA STEAL.

Good?

Read that again.

Alright, let’s move on.

So, art theft. People get accused of art theft a lot, especially now, especially on tumblr, especially in relationship to anime and manga fandom. Let’s talk about what is and what is not art theft.

In the past, art theft (especially on DeviantArt) was a thing where Person A would post an image, and Person B would trace it or color over it or do some other sort of manipulation to it (or not! people are crazy), then post it as original art. Someone would accuse Person B of art theft, Person B would argue that they changed the art significantly enough that it wasn’t theft (or not, who knows), and then there would be Drama.

This isn’t at all what I’m talking about.

Art theft in 2k18 is different than in 1998.

Art theft in 2k18 looks like this:

I’m using this as an example, and while I realize this looks like a callout post, it’s not meant to be a callout. But I need some sort of indication to show. No falsified example is going to show exactly what the problem is as clearly and precisely as something that is exactly the problem. (To point, I have tried, through multiple channels, to get in touch with the person from this blog, to no avail. So on we go.)

Let’s call this a teachable moment. Let’s call this a chance to be better. Let’s call this an example in a fandom that is, frankly, fraught with this kind of stuff.

Let’s call this an explanation of why art theft is so prevalent and common that it can be hard to recognize.

Moving on.

“How is this Art Theft?” you demand.

Well, chitlins, gather round.

Let’s look at this image. This is an image, posted on a blog that is not owned by the artist. The blue text underneath is a text, which leads here:

So how is posting a picture on tumblr art theft?

First, let’s talk about what was done.

The person who posted this on tumblr went onto this twitter page, downloaded/saved the image, then went back to Tumblr, uploaded it, posted a link with the translated name beneath (the artist’s name is NOT in the link), added some tags (including the artist’s twitter handle as a tag), and posted it.

Now, let’s talk about what this means. As of this posting, the tumblr post has 1310 notes. The artist’s post, on twitter (this particular artist also has a pixiv account, but this image was not posted there) has 563 retweets, and 1643 likes, for a combined total notes of 2206 notes.

The tumblr page has 1310 notes that the actual artist will never see.

“So what?” you might say. “It’s exposure, and there’s a link to their twitter. What’s the problem?”

Well, for starters, don’t just decide for someone else what they want and don’t want. Artists who want their art shared are pretty vocal about it, but for the most part, most artists clearly state: Do not reupload onto other sites. Most image sharing sites like Pixiv (a closed service, meaning you need to have an account, agree to the Terms of Service, and be logged in to view images) clearly have it in said Terms of Service to not do exactly what was done above, to the point that Pixiv has it as the second point in a highlighted section at the very top of their Terms of Service that you must not repost an artist’s work without permission:

So even if you willfully ignore both the will of the hosting site and the requests of the artist, even if the art is posted somewhere without a terms of service, and even if the artist doesn’t explicitly say 'please don’t reupload my art elsewhere,’ the best policy is to move in respect for the artists, and understand that if they wanted their art on other sites, they would post them there themselves.

And also, since you really should want to ask permission in the spirit of like, you know, the kind of consent we’re always going on about on this site, you can always ask the artist.

Here’s a really great breakdown on why asking the artist matters.

Please also understand that fandom is not monolith. Just because YOU don’t mind exposure doesn’t mean someone else feels the same way. Just because your friends don’t mind exposure doesn’t mean someone else feels the same way.

Anecdotal: I had a eastern-fandom friend whose family found out she drew BL doujinshi semi-professionally. She was outed, and she was kicked out of her house, lost support from her family and close friends, and basically had her life ruined for a good chunk of years because of it. There are still consequences to this, despite it having happened some fifteen years ago.

Anecdotal: I have several fandom friends have their work shared onto sites like Facebook and Tumblr, where they’re found by people they work with/family, to the point that they’ve left fandom altogether because the risks were too great.

“But Paris, the person above put a source, a link to the twitter where they found the art!!! You’re just splitting hairs!” you say. “The artist is still getting credit! Don’t be a bully!”

Nah, boo. I’m not being a bully. I’m trying to educate you, darling.

What you have to keep in mind is that even by putting a source, you’re still committing art theft, because you are taking away the ability to choose where an artist puts their art.

“But Paris, like, what about unsourced art in like museums?! Are you saying we shouldn’t put anything in museums if we don’t have the artist’s permission?”

Listen, I can’t believe I’m honoring this absolute garbage with a response, but you and I both know there’s a huge difference between a piece of art from a lost artist, and an artist publicly asking for their art to remain under their control, and people deciding to ignore them.

“But Paris, you big old jerk,” you ask, "how can I have pretty things on my tumblr if I don’t just download art and post it?”

Well, one of two ways:

1) You can contact the artist and ask permission to post. Here’s some cute templates for how to do so. If you don’t like these, there are others, or, you know, you can use Google Translate. It’s not hard, and even if it was hard, that’s not an excuse. You can even reach out to people like me or other multilingual people to help you if you aren’t comfortable trying to contact them in English.

"But what if the artist says no because they’re a giant meanie who doesn’t want free exposure?"

2) The second way you can keep your blog full of pretty shiny things is by linking to the image properly. On tumblr, when you link to things, an image shows up. For example, if I copy the above twitter link and post it as a twitter link here in tumblr, I get the following:

This allows the very cute art to appear on my blog, without having to going out of my way. Anyone who clicks on it will go directly to the twitter page, and it includes the artist’s name as the primary part of the caption.

If the link is from pixiv, it looks like this:

(Please notice how Pixiv has been so fraught with art theft that at this point, they have an automatic filter that appears on the art itself, with a hard link to the image and the artist on the bottom right. This is because art theft is a huge problem.)

We have an obligation to the artists who enrich our fandom lives with their beautiful, beautiful porn art, to treat their works with respect. We can respect the wishes of the artists for the totally selfish reason of wanting to encourage them to make more art, but it should be enough to say we don’t want to be assholes. I mean, it’s simple niceness, people. I don’t know how to explain to you that you should care about other people.

If someone says, “Please don’t repost my art,” don’t repost their art. If a site says, “Please don’t repost the art found here,” don’t repost the art. Simple mathematics, kids.

“But Paaaaaaaaris!” you wail. “What am I supposed to do when I come upon stolen art on my feed? I wanna reblob it! :C And since I’m not the one who posted it originally, it’s totally okay to just reblob it, right? :D Right?”

Well, darling, you have a choice. You can just hit that big ol’ reblog button and continue to perpetuate the same issues I’ve rather clearly delineated above. OR YOU CAN FOLLOW THE GUIDE ABOVE AND MAKE A NEW POST. For example, let’s say I really like the “Summer Twins” image above. I could just hit reblog and move on with my life, who cares, la-dee-da, or I could go to the source, and post a link from there.

The choice is yours, fandom. It’s all about the kind of world you want to surround yourself with. If you want to be a person who treats others with respect, you shouldn’t repost or post stolen art. If you want to be a person who is a credit to the fandom, follow the guides above, educate yourself, and make changes to the way you interact with content.

IN CONCLUSION, I WILL RESTATE MY THESIS: NO ONE WHO IS COMMITTING ART THEFT IN THIS WAY IS DOING SO TO BE A JERK. THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING IS WRONG. BUT KNOWLEDGE IS POWER, AND WE SHOULD ALL STRIVE TO KNOW BETTER.

DON’T STEAL ART.

DON’T REPOST STOLEN ART.

MVSans Update v1.3.37dev + yes flowey is still a shit

Now that I got last week’s garbage out of my system I’ve been productive again! Hurray!!

((pretend this was posted 2 weeks ago, around May 3rd, much of it was written then but I’ve been too exhausted to finish writing detailed update posts))

I put up another patch to download (like a week ago), though most of the changes are not visible to regular users yet. I had to fix some bugs that were interfering with beta testing the phone calls. I mis-named some variables and so the functions just weren’t working right. Whoops! I also implemented a panel for the beta testers to test aspects of the phone calls effectively, but like I said, not visible to regular users. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Some changes you can see:

Tickling

Tickling messages have been partially updated to use the new surfaces, so that his flusteredness scales as he reaches his tickle-limit. He’ll be thoroughly red/blue in the face and sweaty as you approach his maximum tickle capacity.

Geno Sans

Geno Sans shell has backwards-compatibility support! He won’t vanish when the new blushing surfaces are called anymore. As a bonus, he has new poses from the sweatdrop overlays, they just won’t be as varied (or colorful) as the other shells.

Well since I’d been complaining so much about garbage lately I figure I might as well take this opportunity to announce something else I’ve been sitting on a while. Here’s a little PSA.

Your Best Friend Flowey

People are curious about the Flowey ghost and since I took so long to get this update post published, let me show you a bit of what Your Best Friend Flowey is gonna be all about. Most of his content will be him snarking about and interacting with other ghosts. Since I’m the developer of both, MVSans will have a lot of detailed interactivity with YBFFlowey.

Flowey’s escaped from your game and is excited to play with all the ghosts living on your desktop. However, smiley trashbag is up here too and is still telling those awful jokes.

Bonus: Flowey Expert level trolling me

Flowey was actually broken a while due to experimenting with stuff, and I was too tired to fix it until Friday when I decided I had enough of Sans and my little flower shit boi needed some LOVE and attention.

I’ve had some other posts showcasing how much of a lil shit Flowey is, popping up all over my screen and making faces at me. He shows up in all kinds of hilariously coincidental places frequently, to the point I expect it of him now.

Doc being Doc 3/?

In which Doc prescribes medical marijuana to 10K.

Fandom: Z nation Word count: approx 1000 Warnings: Nightmares. and weed. My blog is 18+ so interact at your own discretion

Parts 1 and 2 (this series is basically just one-shots)

He wakes with a jolt, gasping a breath that smells and tastes of danger. There's one here. The Z crawls towards him, reaching out to grab. Its face comes into view, rotten flesh peeling from the dislocated jaw.

“Tommy...”

He kicks, reaching for his gun, flailing in the darkness. But he's rooted to the ground.

“You didn't do it...” It- he- is close enough now to spray specks of blood from his gaping mouth as he rasps. “You promised... Tommy...” A filthy clawed hand smothers his face, he can't breathe.

“Dad!”

He wakes for real this time, the hand covering his mouth his own. 10K shudders and sits upright, feeling cold sweat.

“Hey.” A torch light shines in his direction. “It's me”

Doc.

10K steadies his breath as he looks around; they're in a barn which is part of a commune-turned-survivor camp. The residents, mostly children and elderly, had been happy to provide food and supplies in exchange for a couple days' manual labour.

“Same dream?” Doc asks quietly. “That's at least four nights in a row now.”

10K can't remember the last time he managed to get real rest, and he's been volunteering for night watch as a distraction, but his aim has begun to suffer. Tonight though, Doc is on duty, and the radio is quietly serenading him.

“I can't make it stop,” he mumbles, looking at the crescent moon nail marks on his palms. “Its stupid. But it won't go away.”

Doc drapes an arm over his shoulder. “Nothing stupid about it kid, we've experienced some pretty messed up shit.”

Glancing around the barn, 10K breathes a sigh of relief that he didn't wake everyone else up by yelling this time. Whatever Doc says, its still embarrassing.

“You need to relax a bit, get some proper shut-eye.” Doc pulls something from his shirt pocket. “How 'bout it?”

10K squints at the joint. His Dad always said that drugs were for rockstars and communists. But if he can't sleep then he can't shoot.

“I guess so.” He sighs.

Doc lights the joint, takes a puff, and then passes it over. “It's not too different to a cig. You wanna take a breath first, and then sort of suck in, so it goes down into your lungs.”

10K gingerly takes the joint and breathes in, then sucks- and splutters.

“Not like that!”

“Argh, its up my nose.” He steels himself then tries again, and this time he inhales properly. It tastes like burned cheese.

“Give it a minute before you take another, this isn't beginner strength.” Doc takes back the joint and hits a few times in quick succession as he studies 10K's face.

Oh. There it is.

A wave of calm descends on him like a gentle trickle of hot water, his muscles unclenching.

“I think its working,” he mumbles, and is surprised by how his voice sounds.

“Sounds like it.” Doc hands him the joint and brings the radio closer, turning it up just slightly. “Our good pal Citizen Z is running through the best of Dire Straits. Best band to come out of Britain. The Beatles are overrated.”

10K inhales another mouthful of weed, feeling the endorphin rush. “Beetles are quite tasty actually.”

He's actually heard Doc mention the band before, but it doesn't matter because he just made a joke and its really, really funny.

He's trying so hard not to laugh too loud that he drops ash onto his lap. “Ow!”

“Careful!” Doc quickly takes back the joint and flicks off the ash. “Oh yeah, that reminds me. Don't ever smoke this stuff naked. Easy to drop off with it in your hand, then next thing y'know you're roasting your chestnuts.”

10K winces and crosses his legs.

“Man, that nudist commune was one of the best places I ever lived. Had to leave for the winter though.”

Everything's fuzzy now, but in a pleasant way. 10K leans back against the corrugated metal wall and lets his eyes close, listening to the music.

“You wanna talk about it, kid?”

“What, being naked?”

“The nightmares I mean.” The light is dim but it looks like Doc's blowing smoke rings.

10K remembers how it starts differently each time, but always ends up with the corpse that used to be his Father coming for him, hungry and accusational. The lurching twist in the pit of his stomach comes as usual but its definitely less pronounced.

“I don't think it matters right now.” He takes one more hit, and starts to feel like he's floating on a cushion of air. Citizen Z's smooth voice emanating from the radio is a gentle breeze, softly nudging his cloud across the sky.

“Whatever time zone you're in, I want to wish you a safe and calm evening. Especially to my good friends Operation Bitemark. Here's one more record to see you off.”

Even though he doesn't recognise the music, 10K is comforted by it. Doc's singing along very quietly next to him as he takes the last toke. Faint sounds of the others breathing slowly and deeply in their sleep. Safe and calm indeed.

A joke occurs to him and its gone again before he can articulate it but its so hilarious that he has to shove his fist in his mouth again, this time to suppress hysteria rather than screams.

“What's so funny?” asks Doc.

“I...” 10K wheezes as he hold in the laughter. “I can't remember.”

“Okay. That's about where you want to be.” Doc picks up 10K's blanket and drapes it over him. “Feelin' sleepy now?”

10K becomes aware that while the rest of him feels feather-light, his eyelids are incredibly heavy. He nods and lets himself slip sideways to lie down.

“Thanks Doc.” He murmurs. Maybe it doesn't actually come out, because he's asleep the moment his cheek rests on his arm. But he's sure that Doc knows he means it.

The only thing he dreams of is being a cloud floating in the warm blue sky.

First of all, thanks y’all for keeping up with me! <3

Lengthy, probably also whiny, personal post following, so here’s a cut.

Lately, I’ve been battling my social anxiety more than usual. Hence my absence/retreat to mope in silence. I have been shy and an introvert for as long as I can remember - and there’s nothing wrong with that - but somehow, somewhere, sometime along the way of the entire “growing up” process it’s turned into a real fear of interacting with people. I have a horrible track record of sabotaging a lot of relationships before they could become what I considered to be too close. Mind you, it took a lot of time and inner struggle to recognize this and it is a rather painful admission. It is quite paradox: I want to make new (close) friends, meet like-minded people with the same interests, but at the same time there’s this inner blockage and utter sense of dread. They will see me for the horrible person that I really am (=perceive myself to be). Things inevitably will turn sour, there is only one way for it to end: badly.

For the longest time I ignored the gravity of the issue and thought I could deal with it on my own. Stubborness, a false sense of pride and my stupid perfectionism told me that admitting my struggle meant admitting a weakness I perceived to be unforgivable in society’s (and my very influenced) eyes. So I just somehow ... soldiered on and functioned (barely). I hate that my innate shyness has blown so out of proportion over the years. It has robbed me of the ability to properly communicate with people. There’s always this fear that I said something wrong. If I talk about personal stuff I feel annoying, if it’s fandom related I feel like this weirdo in highschool again that scares people off with her enthusiam (even if said people are highly immersed in the fandom as well). In general I feel like I am too much. (Hell, I wouldn’t want to be friends with me). So I keep quiet when I want to reach out. It’s hell sometimes. When it gets very bad (as it has been recently), I feel weirdly hollowed out even when I’m with my friends. I feel so lonely at times that it physically hurts - which is by far the worst part. Because you know there are people who love you and who you love in return - but you have somehow unlearned to feel and believe this. How can a seemingly easy thing be so difficult? Why must I always read into the smallest thing? How can you unlearn such a mundane thing and fail so hard at it? (And then the downward spiral of self-hatred kicks in).

Admitting that you need professional help is the first step on the road to recovery. It’s gonna be a long and probably very difficult journey (this includes finding a therapist with which I have already started, a story of its own). There is so so much to undo, but I don’t wanna be this person anymore. I don’t want to hide behind my issues and use them as an excuse for my behavior. I don’t want to be scared anymore. I finally want to be able to differentiate between my personality and that ugly little voice in my head that tells me I’m worthless garbage. The people around me deserve something better. I do. Because, underneath it all, there actually might be someone decent who is capable of so much more than she allows herself to imagine.

what are your thoughts about bakugou and midoriya's relationship? platonic, i mean

I live and die for it, every part of the manga in which that relationship is shown progressing is between my favorite parts of the manga and I’ve reread them a hundred times and cried over them way more than necessary - the battle trial one? yes, the end of terms exam? absolutely yes holy shit, the post-license exam fight? god yes fuck me that’s my absolute fav, the rescue arc? shit yes between all the reasons why that arc’s my fave the change in the deku/baku relationship is definitely a worthy of note one

It’s an interesting relationship, a painful one that’s making both of them grow so so so much, a rivalry they both need to better each other and keep each other straight on the path to become two great, all-around heroes - I’m not sure they’ll ever end up having the type of relationship Izuku has with Todoroki or Bakugou with Kirishima, I don’t think it’s possible for them to be friends like that, they’re just too different to properly fit like that and to avoid stepping on each other’s toes every single day of their lives they’d have to change their core personalities too much, but they did end up being able to coexist (Bakugou’s even giving Deku tips!!!) and I do think they’ll be able to cooperate and support each other in the end. If one day they’ll be able to make fun of each other in a friendly manner and egg each other on and be honest with each other without it escalating into a full blown fight I’d truly be happy, that’s probably my main dream for this whole manga. For them to have a healthy rivalry, one in which they can maybe even laugh together. I think it might happen, I’m waiting for it to happen

What a question lmao no, no they never interact with Teru, it’s a crack ship haha I don’t really have a reason to ship it tbh, I just think Teru’s personality would fit nicely with Bo and Kuroo - Teru’s one of my fave characters in Haikyuu and I like shipping my faves around, but he’s interacted with only his teammates and Karasuno so everything else is just crack... I like a whole bunch of Teru ships tbh, bokuroteru is the one I’ve drawn the most for a bit by accident and a bit because they’re the ones with the most entertaining possible dynamics, to me? They’re a bunch of excited silly kids, that’s fun!

I don’t think I’ll ever have Kirishima’s backstory at this point. I’m giving up. I’ll just make up my own version of it. Kirishima’s had a beautiful past with a lot of happiness a great family with loving parents and both older and younger siblings that love him more than they love air, he’s got three pet turtles and a dog and the only reason why he had his hair dyed black was because he went through a really intense goth phase. That’s it, that’s my version, Hori can keep the sadness for himself

You’re most welcome! As I said once already I don’t really care for Mineta, so including him in stuff when it makes logical sense to isn’t much of a problem for me hah maybe, if I’m lucky, one day he’ll grow as a character and out of the walking trope he is, and that might just mean I’ll start drawing him more by himslef too haha
