This moment. This damn moment. I love this moment so much that I'm back on Tumblr because I need to gush about it. I learned how to make a gif just so that I could capture the full glory of this moment. This moment drives me absolutely nuts in the best way.

Spoilers ahead for the Alias season 2 premiere.

Okay, so she's got a bullet wound in her shoulder from her mom shooting her when they were reunited for the first time after Almost Thirty Years™. It's been sore all episode, she was rubbing it while talking to the CIA-mandated therapist, it's a whole thing.

Now Sloane, Mr. I'm-evil-but-I-also-care-deeply-about-you, is trying to comfort Sydney by giving her a gentle shoulder squeeze. Normally this would be completely incidental and unremarkable, just a casual bit of contact. But here, he's causing her pain by squeezing her bullet wound. All while telling her how much he cares about her! And of course, she's hiding her pain from him, a reinforcement of the continuous theme of her hiding things from him that's existed throughout the whole series so far.

It's a brilliant piece of blocking and performance. The subtlety of it, the depth of the characterization conveyed in this one moment, it's all so good. Notice how she doesn't react the moment he touches her shoulder, but waits until he squeezes. And he squeezes mid-line, specifically on the word "care." Genius, the whole thing is absolute genius.

BUT THAT'S NOT ALL. See, my latent script supervisor brain has been keeping track of which shoulder is the injured one ever since attention was drawn to it by her fidgeting during her therapy session early in the episode. Way before this scene with Sloane, there's another character who interacts physically with her shoulder in a way that's intended to provide comfort: Weiss pats her shoulder as he's leaving their meeting in the warehouse pre-France, and he pats her uninjured side. This episode deliberately has a direct parallel to this moment, demonstrating which characters genuinely care for her and which one just thinks he does. Or, well, he probably does care, just in his own unique way. Not enough to realize which shoulder he's squeezing. And that's so cool. I freaking adore bits of visual storytelling like this.

I haven't watched the star trek movies in years but let me try to summarize them. 1st: bad electricity special effects (that's all I remember from this movie), 2nd: Spock dies, 3rd: they try to get Spock back (his soul is in dr Mccoy for reasons), 4th: the one with the whales (literally what I started calling it even before I knew what the fandom was calling it), 5th: mountain camping and 6th: I haven't seen this one actually

him waiting by her bedside til she wakes up. him stressing over if she’ll wake up or not. the immediate hope in his eyes when she stirs. “Hunter?” “hey, kid.” the combing his fingers through her hair as she wakes up. her trying to sit up and his hand moves to hers as his other goes behind her neck to support her. how he gently lowers her back down when AZ enters the room. his hand going behind her neck again to support her as she sits up. her recalling what she could last remember and getting emotional and him comforting her. him draping his arm over her shoulder to comfort her crying. him telling her they’d like to settle down in Pabu and asking her if that’s what she wants; her nodding in response and him saying “that’s what we’ll do.” hemlock commenting on how “parental” clones are. “We are going to get her back. And we won’t stop searching until we do.”

HEYYYY IVE ACTUALLY WATCHED RHIS EP (juno shows me her fav eps, and this is one of them!!!) i LOVED IT, and it’s made me want to watch the entire movie itself, since it’s such a great teaser. sure wish mr. shue wasn’t so fucking weird and didn’t insist on being the monster (only survived touch-a touch-a touch me because of brittana 💯‼️🫡 i do NOT need to see will shuester shirtless AGAIN.) their outfits were rlly cute,,,, i know why they couldn’t do a perfect one to one recreation of the outfits frm the movie, but i think mercedes should’ve worn frank-n-furter’s fishnets because she would’ve decimated. GOD, FINN’S OUTFIT AS BRAD IS ACTUALLY SUPER SUPER CUTE. i think sue’s encouragement for the show was so funny… she wants to get them in soooo much trouble & i support her (but also, it IS so weird that the reason shue put on the show was to FLIRT WITH A MARRIED WOMAN. he’s soooo messy and not in a fun way.) TBH, JOHN STAMOS DOES A GREAT FUCKING JOB SINGING. santana’s outfit is so fucking cute, ummmm. i mean, i think my thoughts would be more coherent once i watch the actual movie and have a better frame of reference, but i rlly like the glee covers of the songs i heard!!
