Thinking about how Schaffrillas Productions' videos are in essence a guy choosing to make videos rambling about whatever game or movie he loves, and people are here for it.
He reviewed the Pikmin games. He ranked all the Mario Kart tracks from each of the main entries in the series. He did a 6 part super-retrospective of Bojack Horseman. He does rankings of animation studios' outputs. He does analyses of Wario as a character, and uncovered a conspiracy about why Toad Factory from Mario Kart Wii never returned in later games. And unless the topic is something I wanna watch later, I'm always ready to pull up a new video of his to watch. You can just feel the passion he has for those properties, how he can acknowledge their flaws but also sing the praises of their quality. It's so clear that these are videos he wants to make, because they inspire him.
(Also I just love how his style of humor involves him splicing quotes from random shows into his scripts, like some sort of video echolalia. It's shocking how close his style of humor is to mine, it makes me feel seen)
Whenever I think of his channel it makes me want to make my own video essays, to talk about all the things that *I* love, even if they're the most niche things ever. I want to talk about my favorite game franchise that 20 people in the world are aware of. I want to make videos ranking songs that *I* listened to in like 2016. I want to make a video about how level editors in games are one of the most important features in games to me. I want to ramble endlessly about things that matter to me, try (mayhaps in vain) to communicate why I love the things I do, and have even just a handful of people love it and be here for it all.
tl;dr: I love how Schaf can just talk about things he loves in his videos, and it inspires me to want to make my own videos about things I love

i don't think i'm ever going to finish these WIPs and i completely forgot where i was going with them, but it's quite vindicating to re-read them and discover they weren't the pile of steaming shit that my memory had convinced me they were. in fact, the parts that were written would actually have been pretty solid with just a little editing

// I just finished reading The Serpent & the Wings of Night and I hate that I don't have book 2 here right now! I want it, I need it, book 1 was soooo good and everyone who told me it would be was right.
I'm not too big with reading on my kindle, even if I do on occasion, but like, I much prefer reading the physical book. It helps me focus more to have the book in my hands, IDK.
But yes, thank you to all those recommendations.
I will now start Fourth Wing tomorrow.
