Full disclosure that this post was inspired by this wonderful meme. So you know where my brain is at.

I've been recently working on a Splatoon au for SAF, and this got me thinking about an aspect of one of my character choices. Because the importance and fear of abandonment is a key part of why I think Owen works well as Marina.

Now, being completely frank, the primary reason for my making curtwen be pearlina is because I am biased, and want my one set of faves to be my other set of faves. (Indeed, I have thought about how Owen and Tatiana could well have been the other way around - and this would lead to compelling character choices for both of them! Tatiana as Marina, who is trying to leave behind her past as a prodigious child soldier, would work really well - Owen as Acht, who is left behind and relinquishes their body and free will in avoidance of distraction and pursuit of perfection, is an idea that haunts me.) But there are also ways that I think it works!

During the Chaos vs Order splatfest, I think one of the things that scares Marina most is the idea of losing Pearl. The characters all have slightly different reasons for joining their team in that splatfest, but I always see Marina's as being that the order and status quo she is seeking to protect is the new life she has built with Pearl.

To me, Marina is a character who craves stability and is terrified of being abandoned, specifically because she once uprooted a stable life and abandoned everything she knew. And, while that decision allowed her to escape her home and make her dreams come true, it was nonetheless incredibly turbulent, and I think it feels very fragile for her. I think it feels particularly fragile while Pearl doesn't yet know that Marina is an Octarian (which - goodness, how scared must she have been when Pearl found out?), and the idea of this beautiful reality she has found herself in shattering terrifies her. And the idea of Pearl leaving is most terrifying of all.

I always like the idea that Owen was scared of being abandoned pre-fall. That he felt like everything good might shatter in an instant, that everyone he loved could leave or die without warning, and that it was hard to accept that Curt might actually stay. (And then, once he finally did accept it, once the trust between them grew to the point that Curt leaving Owen behind became unthinkable, the impossible happened.) So this idea of the fear of abandonment is something I'm particularly in favour of as part of my au.

Particularly, one of the things that is especially fun to me, is that in this splatoon au, Owen becomes so scared of being abandoned specifically because he's been the one who left. And he knows how abrupt that was.

And look man, you absolutely DO NOT have to be okay or comfortable with seeing that kind of content. It's natural for it to make you feel kinda icky, especially of you have some trauma related to it. I get it.

But trying to censor the internet is a sysaphian task that you are not up to. You're only going to end up making yourself feel more bitter and angry and you're going to have a hard time enjoying the media you love because of it. You need to learn how to curate your own online experience.

So this is how you do it.

STEP ONE: BLOCK THE TAG:

Lil tid bit about what i did last night bc I had fun [ affter cut ]

Okay so I was drawing for awhale affter coming back from a eve party at my stepdads moms place ( idk what to call her) and around like 1:23am I got bord and so I walked to the park in my town bc its just down the rode . On my way there someone was playing Abrahcadabra ( good song ) on speekers in there house so I took my earbuds out to listen to it bc it ecod nicely down the street anyway I swung for like awhile whal smoking then went down the wet af slide ( it rains alot hear) and then i just kinnda swang a bit more .i also found gold and silver confetti on the ground whitch i obveusly keepd bc pretty( and it reminded me of the Dca's Anyway i walked around for awhile listaning to misic and "dance walking" awile as in 3 houers and found new trash every time i tryed to leave so i threw it away which i had to walk back to the biger side not far away but still a good bit

( i fucking hate litter) but it started to feel like someone was messing with me bc like when i whent back to the spot i picked trash up from there was new trash . I kid you not there where 12 fuckin burger king shuger packits on the ground and shoved in the crevis of the sidewalk ??? avery's on the more reserved side, at least from my point of view, or maybe that's because when i first met them they had a ferminet pfp. they're pretty chill and casual, and can i just say? their writing is very easy to read, it has great flow and i can just lose myself in the fic. like i don't see the words i see what the words are saying, if that makes sense. avery also focuses on platonic writing, although they have been writing some romance with furina!! my personal favorite work of theirs was that fic of arlecchino comforting her crying child because it made me feel so much better about my life at 9 am when i just woke up.

Pick Nine: Characters I Dream About

So I was tagged in this post by 🐠Dori @dramalove247. This particular list was started by @nabi-unveiled here. And as I said in a response to them, my ace ass doesn't really think that way. I neither have a special desire to see two characters get it on with each other in my dream nor do I ever imagine myself with them like that. I hope this goes without saying but I'll still say it, no judgement though. This is me. But Dori was very kind to offer me some alternatives, which I appreciate cause it saves me some time.

This is more based on a regressor oc rather than an adult being a regressor ! ( so a kid ) /gen

Bandit Claims to be the "cool parent" ( Chili is just as cool )

Bandit does lean more on the sweets and junk food, while Chili leans on healthy foods, but they both make sure i get enough.

Turns the spare room into my room. Bandit buys decor and Chili helps decorate it. ( extra blankies, stuffies etc ).

Chili teaches me new crafts and such! Helps me with my crochet and kandi.

them and the girls love playing games! So we have board game nights.

Chili helps me make it fun to help clean up on days i have spoons to clean, and on days i have no spoons but feel like helping, she gives me minor activies to do ( aka pretend cleaning ).

Silco as a CG:

sneaks us somewhere to play in cleaner waters.

Mini parties with Jinx

Always sneaking me objects or snacks like its SOME big secret but its really just to get me to laugh or feel apart of the mission

when shit is serious he often tucks me away in my room if i cannot join him or Jinx.

Jinx sometimes gets to stay with me and we make up games.

We enjoy calmer games when its just me and Silco. I spy, or just naming things with a start of a letter.

Endless Art supply for me ( and Jinx because we both love art when regressed ).

Princess Celestia as a CG:

Plays Royalty with me. Sometimes lets me use her crown.

Loves taking me for a stroll in the early mornings.

Knows her beautiful sun can be too hot at times, so she brings me mini fans or buys ice cream sometimes.

Often takes me with her on her trips unless its too busy or dangerous.

Loves to make me teas or coffee she knows i enjoy.

Sometimes we go to a beach together! We find sea shells :)
