idky but I have this headcanon that Corlys literally outlives everyone.
Like in a perfect world where the Greens aren’t cunts, I can see Rhaenyra taking the throne, possibly still dying and then Jace takes the throne after her, 15 years later.
Still, Corlys lives. He’s there at the coronation.
Vhagar finally dies like 10 years later and guess what? Corlys is still alive.
He’s 75 at this point and STILL navigating the damn seas like he did when he was 20.
At this point, Luke starts to regret saying that he doesn’t want Driftmark cause Corlys is like okay, well my brothers dead so guess I still gotta do this on my own.
10 years later Rhaenys passes away and while he’s heartbroken, the motherfucker still lives.
At this point, everyone is literally staring at him during Rhaenys’ funeral and they’re like wtf?? Shouldn’t you be in the sea as well?? Like dude you’re pushing 90.
Nope.
He’s still alive and kicking.
Corlys doesn’t pass away till he’s 100 years old and at this point Luke has pretty much taken the reigns for years but at the same time it’s like—he’s damn near 60 before he’s officially crowned as Lord of Driftmark.
Like Corlys damn near outlived him and everybody is just shocked cause nobody expected him to live that long, especially not in an age where getting to 100 was super rare, and damn near impossible.
But nope—against all odds Corlys prevails. He’s at peace but the younger generations like to make up stories about him, saying that he lived longer than Vhagar or that he was alive during the conquest.
Which is ridiculous, of course, but he ends up being right:
Because 100 years later, when everyone is truly dead and gone along with him, people still remember the name Corlys Velaryon and how his blood was on the iron throne, ruled Driftmark, and most importantly:
How he was alive for all of it.
