I haven’t seen one of these in a while so I decided it was a necessity and made one myself!

Aang: “Listen, I don’t normally condone violence but I would LOVE to square up with my Zionist professor.”

Katara: “What do you MEAN I have to take biomedical ethics? How are those any different from the human research ethics I already know?!”

Sokka: “What’s thermodynamics? Is it hard? Eh, I’ll just take it for my physics elective.”

Toph: “The flannel really isn’t helping your case. Just admit you’re a lesbian stereotype.”

Iroh: “Can you please eat some real food?”

Zuko: “Donuts and Pringles ARE REAL FOOD!”

Suki: “Hey Dr. Smith, have you heard of the 4b movement?” *proceeds to spend the next five minutes of class explaining it*

Azula: “I knew you were a lesbian the second you told me that you cut your own bangs.”

Mai: “So we know *human ancestor I forgot the name of* was cannibalistic. And we have plenty of evidence on child bones. What about old people? The elderly die too, you know.”

Ty Lee: “Bitch I cried to the new Chappell Roan song for an hour last night! I want to recommend it to my ex situationship who still says she’s straight.”

ATLA and spiders

Aang: “leave it be!! They have just a right to be there as us!!” (The spider is on the toilet seat)

Katara: didn’t grow up with spiders. Doesn’t understand why people are afraid of them.

Sokka: also didn’t grow up with spiders. Is terrified of them.

Toph: can’t really see them. Doesn’t care. Does think Sokka’s reaction is funny and will hold spiders up to his face.

Zuko: grew up with giant fire nation spiders. Lets the smaller ones crawl on him and takes the bigger ones out with a cup (will not admit he’s afraid of them but will flinch when they move)

Azula: put spiders in Zuko’s bed as a child. Likes to poke them.

Ty Lee: thinks they’re cute. From a distance.

Mai: makes fun of people for being scared of spiders. Is scared of spiders.

It’s official, I’m getting over my childish hatred for Katara because I only hated her when she snapped at Sokka that one time about their mom. She was just a little girl and the only water bender in her tribe left, so yeah baby girl is deeply traumatized to say the least. Oh baby, I’m so deeply sorry, and if I went back in time I would’ve whooped my little self’s ass or something to click it in my head.

Like what the fuck was I thinking hating her? I’m so disappointed with myself on that ☹️

Halfway my wrist started aching cuz of some weird medical problem I have so art may be going slow from now on🫡

Anyway onto the au stuff

Ty Lee betrays Zuko first (instead of Mai like in the og show), after which Mai couldn’t allow Zuko to hurt her so she followed. Mai and Zuko are still a couple in this au btw (at least until this happened), so it takes a big toll on Zuko’s wellbeing and plays a big role in his eventual breakdown.

why do you ship tyzula? (not hating. just curious)

Simply put, I personally ship tyzula because i find the complexity of their relationship very interesting and enjoy imagining what they could have had in a world where they freed themselves from the things that tied them back.

(NOTE: I promise I am NOT one of those tyzula stans who disregards Ty Lee and her feelings. This analysis focuses on Azula because Ty Lee in canon is only restricted when Azula is restricted.)

Azula loves (whether platonic or romantic) in a strange and unhealthy way. She completely devotes herself to a person, bending to their will, in a desperate attempt to keep them by her side. This is why love is her biggest weakness. Outside of her family, Ty Lee is the person Azula cares about most. This is seen in the way she immediately softens when she realizes Ty Lee is crying.

Even when they are enemies, Azula does not wish to harm Ty Lee. She fights her when necessary and after subduing her she does not try to cause further injury. In fact, she looks shocked when it is suggested she would kill Ty Lee.

It is like the thought has never once crossed her mind. This scene makes even more sense when you remember how she ordered for Ty Lee and Mai to be locked up for treason, a crime that is usually punishable by death.

However, despite all this, we do see her harm Ty Lee in the show. In the first episode we see with them together, Azula intimidates Ty Lee into joining her mission. This is an inexcusable move as it scares, upsets and emotionally wounds Ty Lee. That said, the reasons behind the action itself are explainable.

The thing that restricts Azula, and thus restricts Ty Lee, is Firelord Ozai. Azula is the most dedicated to Ozai in the show because he is the only person who has consistently been by her side.

Ursa left home in a sacrificial act to save Zuko.

Zuko was banished and Iroh left with him.

Mai was forced to move for political reasons.

Ty Lee left to follow her dreams.

Thanks to Ozai, Azula was completely isolated with only him to rely on. She was dependent on his love alone so she would do anything to make sure he stays with her. That is why, in Return to Omashu, she was willingly to hurt Ty Lee in ways she normally wouldn’t. Every episode with the two of them outside of The Beach was them living in Ozai’s constraints. She can show her true feelings for Ty Lee in those isolated moments and Ty Lee can return that love without fear or hesitation.

I think that these two have potential in a world where Azula breaks free before she can hurt Ty Lee or, alternatively, a world where she learns to be better and seeks forgiveness from Ty Lee.

Crack AU where Ty Lee escapes Boiling Rock and retreats into the Earth Kingdom instead of joining the Kyoshi Warriors, and is completely off the grid, so that when she comes back to the Fire Nation and sees Azula out and about she thinks she’s gotten better and tries to reconnect with her. Shenanigans ensues.

okay i should have said this when i was still on the beach lmao but.

something else about the beach is that i feel like it’s part of where this weirdly accepted fanon in certain corners of the fandom that zuko was like, part of the friend group between azula, ty lee, and mai and that is just… not actually true. and i don’t think the episode even really suggests that it is.

it can be immediately countered by the fact that they are explicitly on a “forced vacation”, and zuko quite loudly does not want to be there. we never otherwise see zuko choosing to spend time with all three of them in the first half of book three.

and in fact, the only other time we see him spending time with them is also against his will, as it happens in the flashback in zuko alone when azula uses ursa’s desire for her children to get along to coerce zuko into playing with them (for the explicit purpose of humiliating him, which zuko knows and is why he didn’t want to in the first place.)

it seems very clear to me that in young childhood, mai and ty lee were azula’s friends, and any time zuko spent with them was incidental and not by his own choice. of course, this changes when he and mai begin dating, but he is just… not part of this dynamic in a way i’ve seen some fanworks act like he is.
