opens the door, pulls off their helmet, says "oh, thank gods, i was sick of wearing this face." swipes a hand across their face, dispels their disguise, and there's a bloody little tiefling standing there instead

"i have been looking for you EVERYWHERE, what happened?? actually wait, let's talk about this later, there's more important business right now"

opens the door and there's a small pile of burned bodies that she's been trying to drag out of sight

Hi Annie! What size ratio is good to use on Tumblr? Is it still 16:9?

hey there!! honestly there is no one "standard" ratio to use, it completely depends on what you want your gifset to look like! though i don't think 16:9 gets used a lot anymore, i feel like most people nowadays prefer a squarer look for gifs. the standard width for tumblr gifs or photos is 540px, but the height is totally up to you to decide.

it's smart to keep the goal of your gifset in mind. for example, when i gif a dialogue i usually use around a 4:3 ratio. that ratio is usually big enough to fit the full subject in my gif and has enough room at the bottom for captions. but when i make character gifs i like making big gifs, which means i make the height bigger than the width (so the dimensions are 540px by 540+px). and with the latest pedro interview set i posted, i ended up making it a square because if i didn't he wouldn't be centered in the gifset, because they filmed him to the far right side of the screen. and if you're someone who makes more artsy gifsets it's all for you to play with!

another tip i can give is to not make your gifset look too long. because i feel like the longer a gifset looks, the more people will just scroll by. so you can prevent that by making the height of your gifs smaller, or having fewer gifs in your set.

so basically, before you decide on a ratio it's good to consider the look and purpose of your gifset! i hope this helped and if you have any other questions i'm happy to answer them :)
