i wish it were possible for buck to understand that even if his parents hadn't lost daniel, they still probably wouldn't have been great. that kind of neglect wasn't driven JUST by grief, but also by a fundamental lack of care for your remaining children. they might not have been outwardly cold towards buck, but they wouldn't have met his emotional needs as a child regardless of what happened. the tragedy of buck's life is that he won't ever realize this. some part of him will always think of his parents as daniel's perfect saintly loving parents, or his own neglectful grief-sick ones. the pre-evan and post-evan buckleys. even if he comes to terms with it not being his fault, he will always believe that he is the one who made his parents what they are. this isn't completely untrue, children will always and forever change their parents, but the buckleys were always capable of treating buck like they did, always mostly the people that buck grew up with. and buck will always imagine the world like his coma dream, where if daniel had lived, his parents would have loved him always. he'll always mourn a reality that never existed, and never could have existed. i need to fucking lay down

okay BUT nina's capture in the show missed a lot of elements when they changed it. they got matthias being the reason for capture right but everything else? how do we show nina's recklessness when she didn't stray away from zoya and the camp when she got angry at zoya? how do we show nina's acting skills when she didn't even pretend to be an innocent otkazat'sya? how do we show how skilled matthias actually is outside violence in capturing grisha as he was ranked the highest of his peers when he explained to nina that when attacked, a weakling girl would cower while a grisha would raise their hands?

gueeeessssss who's back with more musings on Two-Player Game
Idk if this is even my favorite number from the musical but it definitely gets a lot of my contemplation energy
(honestly, probably because in a hypothetical performance, I feel like it's one of the hardest to sell to the audience - in most community theater productions (and if I'm being harsh, the Broadway choreography) this is the number that either falls completely flat or jumps the shark with being too twee and dorky to Work, so finding some depth to give actors to work with feels very necessary, along with just having to Commit To The Bit)
"and if you leave your brother behind, it's lame"
When listening today, that made me think of how Michael runs away in More Than Survive after Rich gets everyone to laugh at Jeremy for signing up
I've already expounded at length about the way this number kind of shows the cracks that the SQUIP later exploits to drive them apart, but the irony of that specific line/the way it's usually stage-directed I found compelling
This creates an interesting series of questions about how exactly to stage Michael and Jeremy's body language/movements both before and after this song; it can be an interesting place to create subtler demonstrations of the building resentment/conflict/codependency in the way they move around each other. Furthermore (and perhaps more interestingly), the kung fu fists activate fight scene that leads in to TPG Reprise during The Play can play off of that physical acting/staging.
I also have Thoughts on the fight scene: most productions seem to play it off predominantly as comical, and I'm not saying there aren't moments/lines that aren't perfect for humor, but I think that misses the extent of how horrifying the actual moment can be, depending on acting choices. At the very least, the textual thing happening is terrifying and disturbing: your body being controlled like a meat puppet to fight - presumably to the death, or at least the significantly incapacitating pain - your childhood best friend is kind of traumatic. The fact that it's also the breaking point where Jeremy finally gets to lash out in the (some valid, some simply misunderstood) ways that he's grown to resent Michael for how their friendship has changed as they've grown up similarly, I think, indicates that this is maybe not the point in the show for things to get as silly as they do sometimes (again, in the Broadway version for example). Granted, this is somewhat limited by the stage combat proficiency of the performers and the degree to which the director wants it to come off as dark or upsetting, but I think there are definitely more visceral ways to stage that fight to lean more into the horror side of what's actually going on

calling my lover "mine" but not in the way that my toothbrush or notebook are mine, mine in the way my neighborhood is mine, and also everybody else's, "mine" like mine to tend to, mine to care for, mine to love. "mine" not like possession but devotion.

Guess what, it's time for one of my "holy shit just go the fuck to sleep it's an hour past your bedtime dingus" rants where it's an hour past bedtime so I must purge my brain of thoughts via ranting on Tumblr. Today's subject is nathan summers (who could've guessed) and how the existence of the multiverse theory basically nullifies like his entire thing? All he's really doing is trying to keep himself in the right timeline where everything goes well and the future is relatively less fucked. It's not like he's erasing the timelines where everything goes to shit and all the people he loves is dead right? None of this matters though, that's sort of the point of multiverse theory. He can't save everyone and he doesn't even want to save everyone, all he can do is make the best decision based on what he knows might happen. That's also what makes time traveling so fucked up though, butterfly effect, seeing the future to change the past, blah blah blah nerd shit.
On a less canon accurate note, I've always loved the self fulfilling prophecy trope and I can't help but think about how that fits with nate's story. Like imagine you spend your entire life trying to make the world a better place just to avoid the horrid past that is everyone else's future, just to realize that no matter what you do the universe always finds a way to wrestle fate out of your grasp. The world is destined to go to shit because your childhood is the future and if you could change that then you wouldn't exist at all. Yet there's nothing to do but try.

i dont know how else to put this but to approach books (or any media, really) solely for the sake of relatability is genuinely incredibly heartbreaking......to have such little (or such unwilling) imaginative scope that you cannot stretch yourself, even marginally, in a different direction to what you’ve known or are used to knowing when the very POINT of stories is to transport you somewhere else, into someone else, so you can do just that........when fran lebowiz said a book “is supposed to be a door!” and george saunders said good prose “is like empathy training wheels” they were right!!! they were so so so SO absolutely entirely right!!!!!

When looking back over Crowley's looks in the first series, going from Mesopotamia to Golgotha doesn't seem that much of a difference considering the amount of time between them....beyond the obvious gender presentation...they both look almost identical...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But when you take season 2 into account with the minisodes...I kind of only really just registered that this wonderous creature is in between them...
Tumblr media
And honestly I kinda love it...

hiii im sure you’ve answered this before but in regards to your twst x Pokémon, how do you choose which Pokémon go give to the cast?? really curious since your choices are unique :O
unique in a good way, I hope? 😅 (jk jk I haven't come across too many pokemon AUs, so I was going in without preconceptions, I guess!) I was sorta aiming somewhere between doing, like, a full AU with internal consistency and everything, and just picking entirely based on theme/character, so maybe that's why! basically I just set some arbitrary rules (no legendaries/no repeats/evo stages based on year) and then went on ~vibes~. a couple were also suggestions (thank you guys!) and last-minute decisions, so it was a bit of a delightful mess of ideas!
my one regret is that I should have given Riddle a Togedemaru after all. ...you know what, he can have one now, why not
