When you switched from spotify to an ipod, what was that process like for you? How do you find new music nowadays and how do you add it to your ipod (if I recall correctly, itunes isn't supported anymore)?
so i actually have a collection of music from back when classic ipods were still in production, so that helps. however, that's clearly older music!
for new stuff -- i enjoy hunting down cds in thrift stores. there's also sites like depop where folks sell off cds they don't want anymore, tho i haven't purchased any from there myself. but the thrift method was how i used to get my music -- occasionally i'd hit a great sale at a department store or best buy, but usually i'd see what would turn up on the shelves at goodwill. or rip cds from my parents and friends.
i still do utilize spotify to keep track of new releases, but i also just try to follow my fav artists directly on their preferred platforms to keep an eye out for announcements. and tbh tiktok is weirdly great for discovering indie artists who don't have a label promoting them. (or even those that do!)
also, i have an absolutely amazing local radio station that plays everything -- and of course focuses on local music as well. most of my life this has been the best way for me to discover music i like that i never knew existed.
as for itunes -- apple still has the download on their website! i think i just searched it on bing/google and it was among the first couple of results. i have version 12.11.3.17. if for some reason you can't find the link on apple's website directly, im sure mirrors of the installer exist.
however, if you get a modded ipod, odds are you'll need to use something like rockbox to load music -- i dont believe itunes works with SSD. mine is not modded. i think it's only 30 gig too, tho i have my friend's old one SOMEWHERE and it's 80 gig so i hope i find it before my collection exceeds 30 gigs lol
if you're up for it, i did most of my research on reviving my ipod usage on reddit. they've got great resources and most of the questions i had were already answered. if you don't have one already, or need parts to revive it, or want to purchase a modded one made for you, i recommend Elite Obsolete Electronics. quality work with the best prices around imo (at least in the continental US). you can also check out ebay, esp if you want one of the cute lil nano 3s that are also seeing a popularity resurgence.
and if you're wild, theres always 🏴‍☠ lmao but i can't give any advice on that, sorry. im too anxious to break laws

Here is what my iPod looks like. Because I realized that I never showed it on this site.
Why did I get a 5.5th gen iPod Classic in the 2020s? Because of the YouTube channel DankPods.
Anyway, I got mine from Elite Obsolete Electronics. It’s flash modded with 128 GB of storage, has a 2000 mAh battery (bigger than the ones these models originally came with), and obviously has a new case. The front case and center button are blue while the Click Wheel is white. The back is iridescent rainbow, but the reflection of it shows my hands and the phone I took the photos on.
It currently has 1420 songs on it, 15 videos (all are considered Home Videos on iTunes but are Movies to the iPod itself; there’s the original Japanese version of Arrietty with English subs burned into the rip, its US dub, George’s Original Unaltered Trilogy, the original Jurassic Park, Shrek 1, both volumes of the 2003-2005 2D Clone Wars series, and the Lord of the Rings Extended Edition Trilogy, though in the case of the latter, each film is in two parts because it was split over two discs because of their sheer length and Peter Jackson’s unwillingness to compress them just to fit them on a single disc each), and 4077 pictures (read: my entire Pictures folder on my computer, synced to my iPod).

Went to this and talked a lot. Got excited by the idea of sharing space with other lefty computer geeks. What new worlds can we build? What use cases can we find for our weird alternative tools? What actual cases, more importantly, can we find for my iPod Video from 2007 with an episode of the L word and the lesbian season of Skins on it

So she was upset that I put vegetables in the food puzzle because she doesn't even really like vegetables but she wanted to be included so she was sad the leghorns pecked her. She literally marched right over onto my lap and sat down after they were done.

honestly I encourage everyone to get comfortable opening up their electronics. game consoles. computers. phones. keyboards. headphones. whatever. like obviously don't start with the most difficult thing to open up and don't just mindlessly pop open something and lose all the screws and don't do it while its on. but get comfortable looking inside your stuff yourself
its not hard to open up most electronics that don't have an apple logo on them (and even a lot of those are easier than you'd think) and it DOES NOT VOID YOUR WARRANTY.
Companies will try to scare you from learning how to care for your own stuff because they get money that way. Warranty stickers are technically illegal in the US but just isn't enforced, and a company can't actually void your warranty if you repair something yourself, so long as you don't break something else in the process.
like I look at threads all the time where people express fear about just opening up a console and looking at the internals to see which version they have but don't be! its easy, its safe, its free! get comfortable with your electronics and learn how to clean and repair stuff yourself, it isn't scary, companies just want you to think it is!
