Deercember Day Thirty: Megaloceros giganteus | Great Feast
Megaloceros giganteus, also known as the Irish elk, giant deer, or Irish deer, is an extinct species and is one of the largest deer that ever lived. Its range extended across Eurasia during the Pleistocene, from Ireland (where it is known from abundant remains found in bogs) to Lake Baikal in Siberia. The most recent remains of the species have been radiocarbon dated to about 7,700 years ago in western Russia. Its antlers, which can span 3.5 meters (11 ft) across, are the largest known of any deer. It is not closely related to either living species called the elk (Alces alces or Cervus canadensis), with it being widely agreed that its closest living relatives are fallow deer (Dama spp.). A handful of Irish elk depictions are known from the art of the Upper Paleolithic in Europe. However, these are much less abundant than the common red deer and reindeer depictions. The bones of the Irish elk are uncommon in localities where they are found, and only a handful of examples of human interaction are known. More information here.

I was always taught to never form attachment, and sever ties that were already made.
Don't feel fear, that shows weakness. Attachment shows weakness.
These were teachings that were engraved in my being, never to be forgotten.
Then you came along with your toothy smile, infectious laughter, and unrelenting determination, and suddenly the lessons taught to me all those years ago flew out the window.
I found my eyes lingering on your figure as you walk away, wanting nothing more than to reach out and have your attention on me once again.
The scent of you haunts me as I try to sleep, the vivid image of you following me in my dreams.
I feel a part of my shoulder burning where you rest your hand, but your touch is a fire I would willingly walk into.
My thoughts have gone past what you do to me now, as they have evolved into thoughts of what we could be together.
I wonder what your hands feel like encased in my mine.
I wonder what you would look like waking up next to me.
I wonder how you would feel when I tell you I want to spend the rest of my days with you.
Leaving behind all I have known was a risk I was never willing to take, because what will become of me when I abandon the laws that have shaped me?
Though after meeting you, my beloved, I realised that these principles only held me back.
It has been years since I have left that life behind; I want to carve out a new future for myself, one that includes you, if you'd let me.
I will see you tonight, my love.

ATSV discourse !
people being shocked at the casual racism for pavitr prabhakar is so funny to me. like yes, people have been this casually racist towards desi people for literally ever. most of us have been conditioned to laugh at literal racism being directed at us because of how normalised it is. you know what would be even more crazy?? if people were as vigilant about racism targetted at brown/desi people as they were with anything else 🙀🙀
