So we have this uneasy conflict within the GOP. In one wing, represented currently by Ron Desantis with his moral and social issues/cultural war ideologues in Florida, and the primarily pro- corporate/ big -business free- market wing of the GOP. For instance, some GOP -governed states would never dream of tackling / punishing a big business like Disney, or a similar huge employer for the state, ostensibly over cultural/social issues like wokeness, abortion, LGBTQ, etc.  And when it comes to abortion, big business can make money on the abortion pill, so they are not about to punish big business. 

It reminds me of some observations that philosophers have made concerning medieval issues and some of the players:

Torquemada of the religious Inquisition was an utterly sincere, inflexible, and a dangerously dogmatic, cruel ideologue, and hence, was inhuman. Many of the  Popes and Leaders on the other hand, were all too human: they were insincere, at times flexible, at times corrupt, but that means they could also be merciful and charitable. So, they were like all who can be bought.

If someone is only nice to you because you agree with them politically, don't be surprised when they eventually turn against you.

back from a night out and I took my usual stickering route home to check on what got scratched off -- come to find someone else has wheatpasted a gender abolitionist feminist poster to a lamppost and tied some suffragette flag ribbons to a nearby fence. Knowing another local feminist has seen my stickers and known she's not alone makes me glad I continued doing this for as long as I have. :)

rape is just a thing that may happen during war. we're not saying it didn't happen. it may have occurred. rape is not uncommon in war. it's not a weapon of war, there's no proof it's a pattern of violence against women, it's just something that happens for some reason.

What is considered “Zionist” in Israel? In the US there is a commonly held perception that Israeli=some level of Zionist beliefs (since you or your family was part of the group that settled in Palestine), even if it’s not the belief of settlement in occupied territories.

Bud I'm not Google. Zionism is an incredibly well-defined ideology and political movement. The fact that tumblr gentiles are unable to read and are also antisemitic by default is not my problem. I'm not a zionist and I think zionism is inherently colonialist and anti-democratic but this is coming from a place of genuine understanding of the ideology, as it should.

And no, Israelis aren't zionist by default just as Americans aren't patriotic by default, because it is a belief system and not an inherent existential condition.

imo the difference with trans toddler is that khelif was legitimately treated like a girl throughout her childhood, whereas the toddler would be treated like a special boy.

but i think you could make the argument that he wouldn't, because at that age kids are just little sexless blobs and only the parents and maybe his teachers would know, so externally he would be treated like a girl. that's why i liked ms femenaces' response bc he would not internalize it the same, knowing on some level that it isn't meant for him, and socialization works in part because we have an instinct to sort ourselves into groups and fit in. in delusions of gender there's an interesting passage about girls with dsds who align themselves more with boys - not because of an innate "masculine" gender identity but she suggests it's because they sense that there is something different and are trying to make themselves fit in based on what they've observed about gender roles. we make some effort to socialize ourselves so we can be accepted. i was called a tomboy growing up and it's hard when you know you're a girl but you just don't fit in with other girls, so a lot of little girls (me included) become "one of the boys" instead, which is of course a label reserved only for girls, it's part of female socialization. the experience of a boy trying to fit in with girls would be so fundamentally different from girlhood even if on the surface the treatment from strangers is the same because at some point the realization hits us that this all happens because of our female bodies

Its difficult to think about the full logistics of everything that happened to me, and how it could have gone. In nearly every ending, it goes poorly for me, leaving me desperate. A majority of the time I can meet anyone else from three houses, they will still think of me as some villain.

That I can manage. The odds being poor is something I can accept, as I remember doing quite well. The thing that stings me now, even with everything I wanted. My situation was still likely doomed. I doubt I would have lived come 8 years after the events then given how my health was. Once that time came, there are few that would make any sort of good successor that could understand any of my ideals. Hubert as reliable as he was, could not be any sort of ideologue. Lysithea was the one woman I felt I could trust to stand up to me whenever I felt I was doing something wrong, and her health was about the same as mine. Hanneman could share principles, but hes no governor. Its just the professor, then she will be in the same boat as I was for succession, only with the weight of whatever grief now. Even then, I never knew how much she thought about any of the politics of it. I could never tell how much she cared for the cause compared to caring for me. It was an uphill battle from the start. I am starting to see it for a sheer cliff. I wish I could focus more on the happier memories and the good times. I feel like I make poor company to most of the kind people who remember me. Its a struggle to maintain any optimism now that its not a mandate to keep up morale. But now I'm just trying to enjoy a more daily life here, and I dont know what to do with any of these thoughts.
