Okay here's my thoughts on this stuff so 🙊

Honestly I don't think he's let himself go, he's almost 40 and that pic didn't make him look too good, he's gonna get wrinkles and in my (possibly delusional) opinion the car tour he looked really happy in, I was surprised to see people say otherwise cause when I watched the whole tour he seemed way healthier than he did in say the 2016/2018 tour, he looks like he's sobered up and he genuinely seems more happy. 2018 he seemed miserable, not so much now. I think he's just older and aging.

As for the Louise stuff, I don't like her, but I don't think he's miserable being with each other. Sure it's a little... Weird... What place do nations take in their government and in relation to their people ?

I don't know if the canon has ever talked about it. I imagine it is similar to the role of the British royal family in the UK. I can only see it as such if they're not supposed to have power over their leaders.

They are technically not political power, they're supposed to be apolitical. They are a symbolic body, but unlike the BRF in the UK, you can't ever get rid of them, so in every country's history they would probably have a set role defined by the government or the people.

Nations can't disobey leaders, and while they are mostly expected to not expose their ideas, they kind of can't go against any leaders either.

Back in history, they may have had more political power. Maybe it was accepted for them to directly influence their leader, and even hold power if they are incapacitated. But gradually (or brutally, in Russia and France's cases), they lost it. People hold their experiences to a certain level of respect, but they want their nation to be apolitical. However, leaders will call on their nations' past experiences and therefore their opinions to make some decisions.

For the government, a nation is a sign of the vitality of their country. The nation is fine ? So is the country, then ! What ? Nuances ? Where ? A leader can withhold information from their nations because they know it would spark opposition with them, leader to some being taken by surprise by others mentioning state secrets they weren't aware of.

(But then, what would be the use of royalty in a world where the nation holds that role already? Idk)

How would the Nation be as a public figure ?

Depending on the government (tho every single one will do so), the nation's life is controlled to a certain point and protected. A government wouldn't want to see their nation in a controversy. So in terms of private life, a government could go from letting them be "wild" (in their relationships e.g.) to forbid them from doing anything. See it as companies and KPOP idols. Some companies will let the idols be as long as they don't get caught, others will outright kick the idol out of a group for getting caught in rumours or a relationship.

On the topics of relationships, let's take England and Portugal for example (Porteng shipper here, hii). I feel like though it's obvious to many that their relationship exists, the government doesn't want people talking about it too much out of fear it can impact foreign relations. Therefore, it will sometimes cover up rumours about, let's say, England and Portugal being caught on a date. I can see British tabloids completely talking about something else (maybe diverting the attention to the royal family) to avoid the subject.

Now for the people. People would mostly hold their nations to a higher standard than anyone else. It's hard to picture how long your country would have been alive, after all. You'd think they'd be all-wise, then you'd strip them of their humanity, their feelings, without even realising it. They know that in the eyes of many, they're only a perfect figure that everyone looks up to. Which is why relationships can also be hard. Also, imagine being followed by noisy people on the street. Stressful.

So what would nations do in their free time?

Sports or cultural activities. Sounds cliché, I know.

With their ancientness, they would be considered a useful source for historians and even linguists. They often get questions from those about their experiences or what they remember of a language. Maybe they even participate in language conservation, because they remember it and how it sounds. They can recreate the way the old form of a language was pronounced for linguists.

They practise sports. I imagine for the sporty ones if their country is hosting the Olympic Games they will definitely appear in the videos [cues in Francis fencing for Paris 2024]

Oooh, also just visit each other and all. Maybe they get pensions from their government each month. In that case, they're usually allowed to visit others.

He can be very protective from time to time, so you can have “Because I care for you!!” arguments when you’re being reckless and decide to risk in order to save him.

He's honestly the sassy king of the show. Taking your sense of humour in account, I belive that he would really appreciate that you have it and can back him up. So you would exchange jokes back and forth

He's also absolutely giving you every freedom in the world not even attempting to control you or tell you what to do, he would only give out advices. And as far as he realises you're sensitive to crticizm, he starts to control himself in order not to hurt you.

going off your thoughts on modern horror, what are your thoughts on the modern takes to keep older horror movies alive? What are they doing well or wrong? for example: the Halloween franchise (i have only over the last 2 months watched the first of the halloween, friday 13th, and nightmare on elm street, for the first time and wow are they different to where these movies ended up)

man they sure ARE different, huh?????

as a general rule, i'm...super not a fan of most modern remakes :\ don't get me wrong - i watch 'em! i give 'em those views!!! but like. very few have worked for me.

(important note if you're gonna read my rant: i have not (YET!!!!!) seen the candyman remake, and i'm actually kind of pumped for it, so none of what i'm about to say has ANYTHING to do with the candyman remake, lol!)

in terms of what i think they're doing WELL, i think the BIGGEST piece is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. i am wholly of the opinion that horror should EITHER be made with a budget of $5 or a blank fucking check, and a lot of modern remakes really pour money into the movies. now, they're pouring money into them in hopes of, like you said, keeping the older cash-cow franchises ALIVE AT ALL, but like...i would be a fool and a liar to say modern remakes aren't nicer to look at. they are SO much nicer to look at. the filming tends to be so much better, the sets, the costumes, props...so much nicer to look at than the originals, nine times out of ten.

i also think - and here i COULD be wrong, but it's a sense that i've gotten, personally - that another thing they TEND to do right is remove some of the more, uhhhhh. god i don't even know how to phrase it. uncomfortable? unsavory? deeply unnecessary? gross? exploitation scenes that a lot of older horror movies have. i'm sure there are remakes that still use that shit as a crutch, but to ME, at least, i feel like i spend less time cringing, waiting for some sort of bizarre, sexually driven violence to go down in a remake than in an older horror movie. a lot a lot a LOTTTTTTT of old horror movies, especially shlocky ones, would use that shit to like ratchet up tension, and uhhhh it can ruin the viewing experience. (legit, i was going to say "example: the [x] scene in [movie]" but then i realized there are. TOO MANY. and i couldn't just pick. SO!!!)

what they're NOT doing quite as well, though. HOO. i have. opinions. for me, it sort of comes down to a few basics:

-everything needs to be gritty, nothing can be funny.

-jump-scares/loud noises instead of actual dread.

-not. being able. to just. let. go.

every. single. remake i've seen has been so focused on shit being serious and gritty and grungy and grimy and DARK, and like??? that's fine for certain things but (and i should note i'm thinking specifically of nightmare on elm street here) a HUGE part of the charm of the original movies was how NOT GRITTY THEY WERE!!!!!!! i want freddy to be grinning and making wisecracks and bad puns during every single kill, i don't want him scowling and grimacing the whole time. i don't CARE how the people from the first halloween movie are doing emotionally 30 years later, i just want to see michael myers skewer some shitty teenagers. jason's mask can be as filthy and cracked as you want, if he's not committing downright physically implausible acts of violence onto idiots who get in his way, i'm not having fun!!!!!!

IT'S A THING YOU CAN DO!!!!!!!!

i've ranted about jump-scares a lot but like. it bears repeating, i think. jump-scares and loud noises and flashing shit and cgi faces that melt and scream at you are startling. they are surprising. gore is shocking. it is disgusting. a startle response can be PART of horror. a gag response can be PART of horror. but those alone do not horror make. i think modern remakes rely WAYYYY too heavily on those because, quite frankly, people have made it known they'll watch it, and it's like...ughhh how do i articulate this.......it's like potato chips or popcorn for your eyes - you don't have to think about it, you can just keep shoveling it thoughtlessly into your mouth. it's not an actual MEAL, it's not going to make you FULL, but like. it's buttery and salty and that's fine. i'm not saying they SHOULDN'T use jump-scares or the like, just that they're a TOOL, and they're PART of what makes something scary, and when ALL YOU HAVE is jump-scares, like???? you're missing so much of the other shit that went into making the original GREAT!!!

related to this is how i think a lot of modern horror shit tends to stray away from surrealism? if that makes sense? if you ask me, a lot of horror/fear comes from shit that just plain doesn't make sense, from ambiguity, and nowadays i think directors/writers/producers/what have you feel the need to like??? explain that shit away? like "here's WHY this bizarre thing happened!" instead of leaving it unclear and making you turn it over in your head, running through possibilities, DREADING the answer.

and finally, not being able to let go. don't get me wrong - i love the oldies. i love them. most of them. love them so much. do i think we NEED 273 halloween movies? probably not. do i think we maybe stopped having fun with jason voorhees around the time we fucking sent him to outer space? yeah. yeah i do. as much as i love the idea of new fans being brought into old franchises and experiencing those characters, like...sometimes? sometimes we have to take a deep breath and say "you know what? i don't think...this movie NEEDS to be made."

Ok so first off: I am so happy with today's leaks 👖💫 and I want to thank you for keeping my hope in BJ being alive going this long). We need a few more chapters to know for sure but it looks like the clowns 🤡 are winning! We RISE

And secondly: I'm really interested to see how Hawks faked the body. I'm assuming it was due to the affects of some sort of quirk (either someone with the HPSC or maybe BJ can even fiber bend muscle fibers - which would make him really OP). I STILL doubt Hawks actually killed someone for a corpse - what happened with Twice just carries so much impact and due to Hawks' expressions kind of has "first time killing someone" written all over it. But idk - I guess we just have to wait and see (I am really looking forward to getting that full "murder" scene flashback now).

Lastly: As for the Hawks "fans" that are disappointed that BJ is alive because it makes Hawks less of a complex (he's plenty complex as is) and morally gray character - lol what? Having the arrogance to think that your edgy darker murder-y Hawks is better than the one made by the actual creator the series aside - we don't knit know the full story yet. And personally? I find a Hawks who is able to outsmart his opponents against all odds without needing to shed unnecessary blood MUCH sexier than a Hawks who murders people just cause he's ordered to. But, well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ maybe that's just me (though I really hope some other fans - particularity anime onlys when we get to season 6 - think the same thing as well).

I kind of figured that if it was a fake body it would have probably been a body that had been donated to them after death and not just a random civilian they killed on the street (...but then again the HPSC doe have no issue with civilians dying for the sake of the mission, I just don’t think Hawks would agree to such a thing. Imagine if they did kill someone but then lied to Hawks about how they got it, now that I can see more likely happening then Hawks killing a random person for a body). 

But!!!! I’ve never thought about Best Jeanist having been the person to have altered the body! There’s that popular fanon theory that the denim man can control muscle fibres and that would be so cool if that became something confirmed in the anime (it’s another example of quirks being used in useful ways. Imagine if he doesn’t like to use the ability because it’s messing around with a person’s insides... now I’m imaging him and Edgeshot talking about it with Edgeshot wondering how him controlling muscle fibres is any different from Edgeshot making punctures in peoples lungs... damn fanfic ideas, go away! Or go bother @officially-dumb, they love Edgeshot!).

I agree with you that Hawks actions with Twice seemed to speak about it being the first time he killed (he was just so hesitant about going for that kill shot even though he made that speech about how someone would have to die if this continues. He really didn’t want the confrontation to reach that point and he was almost begging Twice in his own way to listen to him). 

As for the murder scene, I am curious about why Hawks pulled out his feather sword and grinned (so dramatic, what is it with heroes and being so overly dramatic :/ Hawks no one was around but you two, sweetie, why you doing that).

I totally agree with you that I prefer Horikoshi’s Hawks compared to the more grimdark fanon Hawks that seemed to circulate the fandom for a while. I don’t know why everyone wanted Hawks to be someone who followed orders blindly, that isn’t complex, that’s just overdone. I much like Hawks as he is in canon, someone that takes his orders at face value and does them his own way (that’s much more complex in my opinion).

Hopefully anime-only fans aren’t as dumb as us manga fans (and have the aid of the music score and being able to hear the characters to help them too).

And it had a bunch of people's stories about this exact situation and it just reminded me of how much I hate being in that situation and how scared I am of these kinds of situations, to the point where if a man approaches me in public, I typically just either become slightly hostile or ignore him. I cannot stress to you how little tolerance I have for random men approaching me on the street. If I meet a new man willingly, it's through a friend. If a dude tried this and Kirt was nearby, I wouldn't have to feel awkward saying "No, why the fuck would I hug a random stranger I just met?" Because I know they'd have my back. But it still panicks me. Something most people don't realize is that I still react as if what people see is a fat woman sitting alone. I'm still fat but people seeing a fat man is... You're less likely to get harassed as long as you appear outwardly masculine. As in, more people feel like encroaching on my personal space is appropriate the more purple and pink I wear. And it fucking scares me. I'm not gonna stop wearing colors others consider feminine but I do think about it before I leave the house. And the anxiety spike I feel when I see a man walking towards me is real and I don't like it. I never allow them to bully me into giving what they want out of pure principle because I feel it is a disservice to others to allow it. If I give them what they want, they are more likely to try again. They may still try again but every vehement rejection they recieve makes the next attempt a little more concerning. I always escalate it because I'm not going to be the reason he thinks doing this to the next person is acceptable. And also because I get personally pissed off at him in the moment. It's not right. And I refuse to sit down and accept that. I'm a fighter. Always have been. Always will be. This world can kill me. But it can never conquer me. In that way, at least, I am immortal. My spirit will live on in the multitudes of nonbinary people and women who will come after me and will have to deal with douchebags like that.

The accomplishments mean nothing to me if she embraces a sense of superiority because of it. But she doesn't. And that's why I feel like I can respect her. You are only as good as you deny yourself to be. You should never let someone tell you you're perfect or special. "Anyone can do this." Is a phrase essential to activism in my opinion. Not only does that say "I'm not doing anything I think anyone else cannot do." It also subtly lights a fire under people's ass to get involved. If anyone can do it, why aren't you? Is the implication there. And since it's not worded as an attack, it gets people thinking and they can approach it on their terms and how they see fit, which is ideal. You don't want to force people into your train of thought. A movement works best when there are a multitude of people working at a problem from as many different angles as possible. If you put all your eggs in one basket, it could turn out to be the basket that falls through. And is more likely to from the weight of the eggs. When too many people try to advance one mindset all at once, others rebel and they rebel hard. It's why capitalism is playing the long game. It's why this shit has been a decades long (if not longer) process and not a 5 year process. Because it works and they know this.

And our approach must be the one that works. And for us on the general kindness side of things, the approach that works best is the one that is varied.

Also if we allow multiple interpretations of one explanation, we are more likely to find one that sticks in everyone's heads and to find one that makes sense to every individual. If I only allow for my explanations, I am not explaining it in a way that makes sense to everyone. Your wording may be easier for some to understand on X issue while my explanation may be better for that same person on Y issue.

It's just one of those reasons I find value in not only getting new people involved but in helping them develop their understanding. The more they understand the more they can help. And they fill in the gaps you left behind. Which is inevitable. No one can fill them all alone. And idk. It's just... Oh god I'm tired rn and I just realized it. I'm going back to bed. Fuck.
