and again like.... obviously that's all a very careful line as you're dealing with some sensitive stuff, which is why doms need to go through training to be able to deal with the physical and mental implications of what they're doing. and none of this is conscious of course, i don't think magnus is out there thinking this through deeply or anything, im just saying it's a part of what makes bdsm subconsciously appealing to some ppl. but my point is, rsd might play a part in why magnus is into that mix of praise and humiliation. like i think he needs the praise for reassurance even during play, which alec is more than happy to provide ("you're so beautiful, look at you, so perfect like this, i love you,"), and that kind of play where rejection, praise, and pleasure are all kind of one and the same is appealing because it just makes it all the more overwhelming without actually being negative and your mind is just lost in the almost contradictory stimuli but the pleasure and the positive wins out and you just feel so relaxed and good? yeah

but there's also like, the way that impacts the negative possible outcomes of bdsm. namely, rsd and subdrop

rsd is kind of obvious so i'll try to be brief: it's a sensitive issue and if he's not in the proper headspace for it, it can have the opposite effect and go very wrong very fast, because his reaction to rejection is hyperamplified by it. so if it has the opposite of the desired effect - rejection overpowering praise and pleasure - it might go south so fast he doesnt have the time to yellow. like he can't prevent it before it happens, you know? which is also why i think he wouldn't go Super Deep into humiliation and why the mix with praise is key - which is another way in which they are compatible because alec sure does love praising him

as for subdrop: if you don't know what that is, basically BDSM play is very intense and releases a fuckton of endorphins all at once very fast, so, sometimes, the sub doesn't come down from their orgasm as much as falls facefirst back to earth. meaning, their brain empties itself of endorphins, which leaves them feeling hollow and depressed, sometimes also moody, hypersensitive/prone to crying, fatigued, and just generally bad

which is one of the many reasons aftercare is important! and also proper dom training! with proper aftercare, you can prevent that drop from happening, by keeping the sub feeling positively. reassurance, touch, and other forms to bring physical and/or psychological relief and/or pleasure helps keep their brain from just crashing once the rush of endorphins is over, so it lasts a little longer and they can come down from the high gently. work those neurotransmitters yall! keep them up and running!

so anyway i feel like subdrop is not only a bigger deal for ppl with adhd (because adhd is already a lack of neurotransmitters so fucking up your balance even further is Very Bad), but also more likely to happen if you're not careful, because the "regular" adhd brain already has a lack of neurotransmitters, which keep those endorphins running. so adhd ppl might "run out" of them even easier

NOTE: i'm not affirming that, this is a shot in the dark. i have no data or research to back that up and im nowhere near an expert in neuroscience, i just know the basics. so don't take this part too seriously and definitely don't quote me on it

but anyWAY yeah. my point is, subdrop can be a problem so it’s something that he tries to be prepared for, have some snacks before and after, do proper aftercare, etc. like i said, it’s mostly preventable, although sometimes stuff like this happens even if you do your best. but anyway

and there’s another thing too, which is that one possible sympton of subdrop is feeling rejected and alone. which is super fun when you have rsd! so yeah. subdrop can be very bad for magnus. and like, don’t get me wrong, i’m not saying it happens every time or super frequently or something, but it IS something he has to watch out for possibly more than others haha man thinking about how camille didn’t care about this at ALL. he knows it can be bad, but he’s also learnt how to prevent it for him, and as the healthy bastards that they are, magnus and alec talk about that in length. during alec’s Research™ he comes across that concept and he brings it up with magnus and makes sure that he knows everything there is to know about how and when magnus experiences subdrop and how to deal with that. he also makes magnus promise to let him know if he ever has it, because alec WILL drop everything to go and give him extra care. and it’s sweet

on a better note! BDSM has been shown to be associated with lower levels of rejection sensitivity among practitioners. so that’s nice? like obviously magnus won’t find the cure for his rsd with BDSM or anything, but i like the idea of magnus opening his eyes one day and realizing that hey, ever since alec and i have been doing play more often, i’ve been feeling a little less affected by rejection?

also like, BDSM as a whole helps enhance trust and communication in a relationship (obviously it needs to already be there for the BDSM activities to take place and like please everyone everything i’m saying here is on people who enjoy it. how you perceive these actions is heavily influenced by whether or not you enjoyed them so i’m not saying that BDSM is great for everyone, i’m saying that it’s great for people who are into it. so don’t go thinking BDSM will do your relationship good or something, k? k) for obvious reasons, so that also helps magnus feel more secure you know. so that’s a positive way that these things interact too 

and okay, i think that’s all i have? not that this isn’t gigantic but like you know. i don’t know how to end this other than uh i had fun answering that ask! also, again, i’m not a psychologist or a neuroscientist and there is actually pretty little research on the psychological effects of BDSM as most of the discussion seems to be centered on “is kink a disease?” due to stigmatization, so like, please, i’m doing this for fun, alright? i tried to make it as accurate as possible and also i get Into It and dive deep into research sometimes so while this is a somewhat educated guess, don’t take everything i say here as face value

Harry walks into his and Y/N's bedroom. He sees her packing a small duffel bag with leggings and a plain t-shirt, some fuzzy socks, and slippers.

"Hey Har, can you get my facial stuff from the washroom?" She says without looking in the direction of the doorway where he was currently leaning all his weight on the frame. His crossed arms drop from his chest, mouth agape.

"How'd you know I was standing here?" He enters the room fully, feet dragging across the soft carpeted floor.

"Your footsteps are not as light as you think," She snorts, heading to the dresser with her make-up bag. Y/N begins placing her travel-sized make up in it before zipping it up once she was finished.

She turns around, seeing Harry's back set foot in the en suite bathroom on his way to grab her skincare routine. There were some noises echoing against the tiled room, a mutter of 'shit' from Harry, and the wall cabinet shutting fairly hard.

"H, you good?"

His lanky frame twists as he comes into Y/N's line of sight again, arms full with various bottles and cotton pads. He was panting exaggeratedly, walking as if he was carrying a heavy boulder.

"Phew, do you really need this stuff? It's just one night," He softly drops the items on the bed, Y/N giving him eyes of precaution invade something spills.

"Yes, I need to keep my skin clear," She grabs her facial toner first and then her face wash, making sure that each product was sealed tight before putting it in a clear ziplock bag.

"Baby, you're already so pretty though," He whines out, eyes gleaming with adoration while he plops on the bed, making the rest of her stuff roll towards him from his weighty.

Y/N only hums absentmindedly at his compliment, not really paying attention.

"Where's my night cream?" She questions, rummaging around her packed items but she's sure that she hadn't handled the white bottle.

"I dunno," Harry shrugs his shoulders innocently, lips going into a slight pout but she could see the indents of his dimples cradling his cheeks.

"H, I told you! I'm going to that sleepover," She rolls her eyes at childishness. "Besides, you're having your own guys night here anyway,"

He releases a deep breath, "But Y/N, I'm gonna miss you too much,"

"You're such a kid, Styles. You think hiding my night cream will make me not want to go?" Y/N places her hands on her pajama covered hips, shaking her down to hide her smile. "Think again, Clare and I use the same night cream. I'll just use hers,"

He gasps, large hands covering his heart, "W-wha? But Y/N ..."

Grabbing her hairbrush, she combs her hair of any tangles before dropping it in her duffel–the last item she needed. She takes her hair tie from her wrist, sloppily tying her hair in a ponytail on her head. She grabs hold of the zipper, the sound making its way into Harry's ears.

"Wait Y/N, I'll cancel guys night. We'll get pizza and watch movies!" Harry tries to change her mind, cutely might she add.

"That's what I'm doing over at Sarah's,"

He huffs incredulously, standing up to his full height. He maneuvers the duffel from her shoulder, placing it back in the bed and giving her a huge, warm hug—burying his head on her fresh scented neck, blowing hot air on it and tickling her. She giggles slightly, wrapping her arms around his lean frame.

The doorbell rings, indicating that the guys had arrived. He groans in annoyance, tightening his hold on her body.

"Okay, time to go!" She wiggles away from him, ducking when he tries to reach for her again. The weight of the bag makes itself known on her shoulder.

She bolts down the stairs, Harry hot on her tails as their footsteps thump against the wood. Y/N slips into her shoes, grabbing her keys and the fruit platter she was to bring over.

Harry opens the door to reveal Mitch and Nick; to name a few.

"Harry! What's up, man?" Nick greets excitedly. His arms in the air hold a six-pack of beer. Behind him was Mitch, quiet and timid with a Tesco bag full of chips.

"Hey Y/N," Mitch greets. "Sarah's right outside,"

She smiles gratefully at him, turning to face her boyfriend who was sporting a pout. The guys made their way into the living room to get comfortable, leaving her and Harry at the doorway.

"Well, I gotta go bubs. Have fun! Call me if you need anything"

She gives him a quick peck on the cheek, swiftly stepping outside the chilly night. She sees Sarah blinking her headlights, hand waving her over. Y/N opens the door to the car, tossing her bag in the backseat, putting her seat belt on.

"Ooh, thanks for putting on the seat warmer,"

"No problem, Y/N," Sarah says, putting the gear shift on 'drive'. "The others are at the house,"

Y/N nods, carefully holding the fruit platter when she hears her phone ring. She groans when she sees the caller ID, Sarah raises her brow at her, pulling out of the driveway.

"Hi Harry, why are you calling me?"

Through the phone, he says, "You said to call if I need anything,"

"And what do you need?"

"You," She bursts out in laughter at his cheesiness, the speaker on her phone belts Harry's whines of 'heeeeey'

"I'm hanging up now,"

Nick curses at the player on the screen for missing his shot, taking a swig of his bottle to soothe his throat. He looks over at Harry looking a bit glum, not really interacting with the rest of the boys and kept to himself.

"Ey, Styles what's wrong?" The rest of the boys pause their conversation, glancing towards Harry who had a crease on his forehead.

"I miss Y/N," He admits sadly, shoulders slouching even more on himself from where he was sat.

Nick chuckles slightly, finishing the bottle and place it on the wooden apothecary table.

"If you miss her that much, you should go visit her then," Nick says, meaning it as a joke. Mitch provides a 'yeah' along while Adam nods in support.

"You know what? I will," He stands up determinedly, bones cracking from not moving for a good two hours after Y/N left. He steps into the hallway, stepping into his Gucci shoes.

"Oi, mate I was kidding!" He hears him call out from the living room. Harry looks for his keys in the bowl beside the closet.

"Don't do anything stupid!" He yells back, opening the front door and locking it. He unlocks his car, putting the key in the ignition and waits for the heat to blast through the heaters.

Once it does, he steps on the pedal, preparing a mental map of Sarah's house. He whistles along the tune of the radio for about fifteen minutes until he sees the house come into view. He parallel parks as best as he could, walking up to the cute little pathway and pressing the button the doorbell. He puts his hands in his pockets, waiting for the front porch light to turn on.

The television continued rolling the end credits of 'The Notebook', Y/N stretches her limbs without sitting up, too comfortable in the position she was in.

"I needed that," Clare says, wiping the small tears escaping her eyes. She blows a puff of air from her cheeks.

"Wow, why can't Mitch be that romantic?" Sarah jokes with a slight chuckle, the rest of the girls laughing along with her.

Y/N stands up along with Sarah to refill the bowl of popcorn for their next movie. Alana, a friend, was given the job to choose the next movie. Sarah grabs the empty cans, aiming to put them in the recycling bin in the kitchen.

The doorbell echoes around the house. The girls look at each other wondering who that would be especially since it was ten in the evening.

"Did you order another pizza?"

"No, I didn't," Sarah answers, brows furrowing.

Y/N takes it upon herself to check who it was. She squints her eyes through the peephole, seeing Harry's frog face protruding because of the fisheye effect. She swings the door open,

"Harry? What are you–"

Harry engulfs her in a hug, walking with her inside Sarah's house while Y/N clicks the door shut. The couple continues to walk backwards, eventually entering the living room.

"This is a girls night," Clare says in a matter-of-fact tone upon seeing Harry's body towering over her friend.

"Yes, I know," He plops down on an empty spot, which was where Y/N was sat before she stood up. He tugs on her arm, pulling her downwards to sit on his lap. She puts her legs on top of the armchair, head resting just above his.

"I got the popcorn!" Sarah walls in with a bowl freshly filled, her voice wavering when she spots Harry. "And Y/N got a Harry, nice."

She sets the bowl down on the table, Alana placing the remote down as well after she plays the next movie. The screen turns black and the Netflix logo appears along with the 'duh dun' sound.

"So what are you doing here, H?" Clare asks, sipping on her new can of pop.

"Just missing my love," He cuddles his face into the side of her should, forearms digging tightly into her when he secures his hold. The girls 'awww' at his sweetness while Y/N blushes from the attention.

"Okay, but just this one time,"

He nods appreciatively, lazily giving a thumbs up with his free hand.

"Oh Harry," Y/N whispers, letting her hands play with his hair, feeling her tummy tingle with butterflies.

my "unkillable" quirk oc's hero name (villain? just for fun civillian name?) would absolutely be "Casualty"

a lil joke based on their casual view on death and well. death

dunno if theyd be a hero, villain, or civillian! theyre all pretty fun to explore. a vigilante would also be cool but i dont think theyd be a super morally upstanding one. definitely theyd kill a villain to restrain them bc "theyre totally fine! yeah, they're definitely dead, officer, but theyll walk it off in a few hours so it's no big!"

Casualty: The Undying Hero! (or is it the other way around? idk how hero titles work) their wounds heal faster than most and if they “rejuvenate” you (crowdsourced name), one quick nap later you'll be good as new! (bc they also heal faster when out though not as fast as them) they will only "rejuvenate" people who have given their full consent or there is no other option (heros they work with sign contracts that give the okay and for what circumstances)(civillians give spoken consent and can request a full contract at their agency if theyre frequent fliers)

casualty decides case by case what the best course of action would be because, unfortunately, they do come across several suicidal heros and civillians alike that just want to know what its like to die. they have several connections with mental health professionals!

like eraserhead, casualty's quirk doesnt give way to much combat ability (pretty good for defense tho is still hesitant to kill someone. villain or not. some ppl can get addicted to the feeling) they compensate during fights with support tools! this isnt something ive thought about so idk what kind of fighting style theyd gear themselves towards but i think id like something pretty versatile.

also kinda looking for the secret to their death since yeah their own body can kill them but they dont really get sick and, while not immortal, they'll likely outlive everyone of their generation

Casualty: The Killer Villain! (do villains even have titles like this lol?) just THINK of the way torture would go! they can drive right up that edge and when they push a little harder and you come out the otherside unscathed you still arent safe bc youre under their whim! not a big bad with huge showy villainous actions but arguably much worse than those who make headlines.

more of an information broker! theyre the one u go to if u wanna make someone break. also takes "assassination" jobs (the PERFECT person to help you fake your death. deals identities like cards) not much in the way of morals and will give you a quick death fix but mostly to get you off their back (thinks ppl who wanna die are pretty disgusting and they revel entirely in their longlasting life. slow and steady, babey) has people contracted to kill others for them.

definitely looking for someone able to kill them. it's a big daring exciting joke to them! fellow villains will make attempts and theyll critique their effort later. also they make a very good partner for ppl trying to test out how much a new move would hurt (other villains come to these spars and time how long casualty stays down. theres a leader board for the longest time down bc it means their move was incredibly violent)

Casualty: A Name as Feared as it is Revered! (okay this one is just for fun) being able to kill but it not sticking is PERFECT for them in their mind. in this universe they couldnt think of another path being better for them (because of their black and white view of “heros save” and “villains kill” and that their quirk fits neither. not really)

theyve got a hit on them from everyone and it makes their days exciting! they compliment the more creative attempts and will drop by the place of person who killed them and leave a sticky note with a full review lol. as mentioned above, kills as a way to restrain! it's to the point where it's so common that whenever it's mentioned that they were involved w a crime a special crew comes to take care of it (you gotta be trained to compartmentalize seeing so many dead ppl that wake up kicking. it does smthn to ya)

theyll target everyone alike! heros, villains, civillians! it doesn't matter youre all ripe for the pickin! theyve got ins with a wide range of ppl and if they cant deal with them personally theyll follow what they see as the best course of action. some people deserve to be publically demolished by a hero, some deserve the horror of a villain, and some deserve the cold hand of civillian law. theyve got a little (major) god complex and believe they have the right to be the judge jury and executioner (in spirit lol) obviously this mindset isnt well received by the public (coughstainchough) but unfortunately they make good judgement calls and they usually dont get the final say in what happens to someone anyway (unless they kill the person and that person learns their lesson or whatever)

does however have a personal vendetta of reforming systems and being very against the pissing contest that are hero rankings. this occasionally makes their judgement calls biased.

the most consistent things would be:

connections. lots of them and the types of connections depend on what path theyre on. theyre good at talking

outside support in the form of weapons or people to "finish the job"

general belief that their choice is more than likely the right choice

loose morals. comes with the territory of a death based quirk

controversial in any universe (except maybe a bonus one where they claim their quirk is not being able to die and not also not being able to kill? that universe would be steeped in self hate and either a bitter death or a life dedicated to putting a mental health support system in place for people with "villainous" quirks)(actually their quirk would still be controversial bc thats the point lol)

permanent casual view on death. doesnt see the big deal

very hm. unconnected to living? sure theyre just excited to be here! but they have the most solid grasp on the inevitability of death while also not super getting that when someone dies they get to stay dead? theres also the tiniest bit of envy there

probably either never got the death talk or got it very late. no one knows how many kids were at risk while being friends with them while young bc they wouldnt put the effort into saving them from life threatening situations (bc casualty always got back up, why wouldnt anyone else)

(bonus story for above would be that once while they were a kid a friend fell off a tree and hit the ground in front of them and they just walked away to keep playing then they came back later and the friend was still there so they went to either their own parent or the kid's parents and told them "[name] is taking a long time to get back up, i wanna play again." queue the sad ending here im aiming for)

upbeat sometimes in a near manic way. genuinely happy really often and finds joy in the smallest things like a slug in the grass or a wildflower coming out of the sidewalk (life in all kinds of places in all kinds of ways!)(theyre big fans of mushrooms. in death theres life or life gives way to life or whatever. idk it's fake deep. i just think mushrooms are cool and wanna project)

aghhhh I could literally spend all day answering this - I LOVE fashion! but to put it simply, I’d have a huge range of colours & I’d have loads of streetstyle, grunge & cosy clothing! not to mention I’d probably add to my already large doc marten collection & I’d have a section just for elaborate ballgowns cause why tf not 😂

I actually think I’d do pretty well! I’m quite good at keeping calm when other people are freaking out about something & I can be pretty sneaky when I need to be, idk I think I’d survive for a while but who knows 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’d probably choose halsey or kendall jenner tbh they’re just absolutely gorgeous

I have 2! firstly, a light, airy rooftop apartment in Paris with a balcony overlooking the city & enough room for me and my best friend to live! but also, I dream of having a modern house in the Norwegian fjords right by the water, it’d have huge windows & lots of timber cladding & interesting spaces to explore & it’d have the most incredible views imaginable!

okay I know it’s not that long ago but the 70s & 80s & probably in the uk! the music scene was amazing back then & roller skating & discos n all that fun shit they did during that period!!

a couple of weeks ago I was out on a shoot in town (I study fashion photography) and this random guy came up and posed behind the girl I was photographing - he put his hand on her shoulder n started saying some weird shit, was proper creepy

I just have a tiny drop of milk in my tea & if I have coffee then I either have a mocha (iced or hot) or just a plain latte!

yuppp my first date with my ex was pretty awful - the restaurant we went to fucked up our food order & then he forgot to take ID to the cinema and they wouldn’t let us in so it was an absolute disaster

I’d probably keep my natural colour or have it icy blonde!! I’d keep it around collarbone length (like it is now) and I’d have it messy-wavy instead of straight! (might have a fringe too if I was feeling daring)
