Lowkey, the majority of my experience with G1 so far has been me nearly shouting "Who the hell are you?!" either because I'm seeing the G1 version of a G3 character for the first time or it's just a character I don't know yet.
I love it. It's like it's 2012 and I'm watching Transformers G1 for the first time again.

Explaining the issue people have with Venus hair:
I would like to note that:
I’m half black (racially ambiguous) and have a loose Afro (something between 3c and 4a). The lack of Afro hair representation is an issue that affects me directly, but not as much as darker skin folks.
I’m not a G3 hater, this post is made due to disappointment. I like G3, but it’s not perfect and some aspects could really be improved.
Starting with a hot take, Venus having straight hair, in a vacuum, isn’t an issue. The real issue lies in the context, of all the female dolls in G3 she was the only one allowed to have textured hair.
The protagonist of this generation is black and has Afro hair in the show, but she is barely allowed to have it in her dolls.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Catty Noir who is black coded also wasn’t allowed to have textured hair in her debut, only a few braids.
Tumblr media
G3 clearly has racist/texturists tendencies when it comes to their black characters, which is such a bummer for a generation that prides itself on inclusivity. Black folks deserve proper hair representation. Our hair has been called ugly, unsanitary, (bombril if you are brazillian), for ages and the lack of representation contributes to that idea.
I was born in the 2000s, fairly recently, yet I still had almost no dolls with hair like mine growing up. The only doll I ever owned with hair like mine was a Howleen Wolf doll. And it’s not like G1 had a lot of dolls with Afro hair either, she was one of the few exceptions.
When G3 came out I was hopeful we would get more amazing dolls with different hair textures. It breaks my heart seeing them miss the mark so badly.
Straight haired Venus isn’t the issue, it’s a symptom.

holy shit its DOLLTISM TIME!
I've been doing really good on holding off from impulse purchasing dolls this month, and that's cause of my birthday. Which is tomorrow! So my brother took me out today and had me pick out what dolls I wanted so he could buy them for me lmao. So because of this, I've now completed the core 5 ghoul's debut dolls and gotten all of the main Monsterfest dolls!
Tumblr media
So, Monsterfest Lagoona: oh my god what is there to say she's gorgeous. just as gorgeous as the other Monsterfest ghouls they really fuckin' killed it for this line!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And for debut g3 Clawdeen: Yeah she's still not my favorite or anything but I've gotten used to looking at her. I still think this doll is pretty weak compared to even the other debut dolls for g3, but she's grown on me, and I felt bad having all the other debut dolls but not Clawdeen. I just felt like I was being mean to all them for not completing their friend group!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm hoping that, after my birthday, once I've gotten some bday cash, I'll be able to find Catty since her doll has finally been showing up in stores! She's the doll I'm most excited for right now.

Mattel Head Glue
With G3 Monster High hitting shelves, people are looking at G1 again and looking for ways to rectify the disgusting, seeping, doll destroying head glue Mattel was using at that time.
Not only is it gross but the glue discolors the vinyl heads of the dolls.
Barbie, Monster High, Ever After High, and Disney dolls all had the glue.
This method was shared to Reddit with incomplete information which has caused some confusion and concern there.
My biggest concern is OP claiming this is safe.
We don’t know if it’s safe. Not enough time has passed TO know. All we know is that L.A.’s Totally Awesome removes and at least partially sets Mattel’s head glue.
ETA:
Jul 19 2024 I rechecked some of the heads from that first batch again at 7 years after treatment:
https://www.tumblr.com/imreadydollparts/756382833722982400/its-come-up-again-and-i-decided-to-dig-out-the
And posted a few trials of other glue removing methods for the science:
https://www.tumblr.com/imreadydollparts/756426553175457792/important-notes
Room Temp T.A.
I’ve pulled out some of the original heads that I’d treated in this post from 2017, so some of the first to be treated:
https://imreadydollparts.tumblr.com/post/166572190170/the-super-long-totally-awesome-follow-up-post
These were soaked using this method:
https://imreadydollparts.tumblr.com/post/189592816645/i-may-have-figured-this-out-a-whole-2-years
Tumblr media
They seem fine, so far.
-
Abbey has a blend of Doll Grade Kanekalon and Saran hair with tinsel. All three are fine. Her face paint is ok, the glitter looks the same, and her vinyl is the same shade of blue it was before. (She was treated before the glue had a chance to cause discoloration)
Her head is no harder than before other than where glue is. Because the glue itself has hardened, her scalp area is firmer than her face.
She is a little sticky again which comes as no surprise considering I was still experimenting and hadn’t really nailed down how long to let them soak, yet.
-
Snow White also has no problems, yet. She’s not sticky at all and still looks about new.
-
The Barbie who’s name I have forgotten (Sorry, Barbie Friend) and who’s glitter eye shadow turned a little white in the soak is a little bit sticky, but not bad.
None of them have had anything odd happen to their face paint, vinyl, or hair fibers.
-
This method does leave some glue inside the head and I had hoped it would be stabilized and stop seeping out. It seems it’s mostly stabilized but there may still be some in the roots of the hair that never set.
Hot T.A.
I also experimented with using hot cleanser (which I still do not recommend but I go over that in the related post).

Other uses for Totally Awesome
Other things I’ve done with L.A.’s Totally Awesome are
Deflocking My Little Pony:  https://imreadydollparts.tumblr.com/post/708165700900028416/imreadydollparts-we-all-know-i-love-my-las
Removing tape residue from a doll:  https://imreadydollparts.tumblr.com/post/189391048515/experimenting-with-las-totally-awesome-again
Soaking sticky, disintegrating rubber bands from doll hair (not much info at the link, but it works great):  https://imreadydollparts.tumblr.com/post/187195051015/bonus-i-got-a-doll-in-the-mail-with-the-hair
!A real-true-total removal!
So far, the only report I’ve seen that shows a 100% removal of the glue is by @dollsorwhatever who tried a combination of L.A.’s Totally Awesome and pure tea tree oil.
https://www.tumblr.com/dollsorwhatever/706834548804157440/since-the-topic-of-glue-seepage-is-coming-up-again?source=share
Tea tree oil will strip the paint from the face and scalp.
If I’m understanding correctly, they had the same problems with just tea tree oil that I have with Goo Gone in that it’s effective but difficult to wash away when done, which is what prompted combining the oil with Totally Awesome.
Their result is total removal of the glue with some risk, versus Totally Awesome’s partial removal with low risk.
WD-40 and Totally Awesome vs glue-affected “Memory” hair.

Triton X-114 is effective at removing head glue from doll hair with results similar to Totally Awesome. There is more info and experiments here:

G5 MLP
It truly isn’t as bad as ppl make it out to be. I will counter every point Ik of that haters use against g5
“Sunny became an alicorn too soon and too easily”
We only saw the climax of her alicorn arc, which was the movie. You’d say the same thing if g4 opened w/ their “twilight becomes a princess” episode. Sunny worked all her life to try and change the minds of those around her, the only help she had was her dad who disappeared at some point in time. He probably died but whatever. She willingly let herself be ostracized by everyone in Maritime Bay except Hitch JUST bc they were doing and saying things she didn’t support, and thats just the backstory. I don’t know why ppl think bringing pony tribes back together again AND restoring magic to equestria isn’t a princess worthy task. She’s only a part time alicorn anyways, I believe it’s bc she didn’t create new magic but I won’t get into that here. I see ppl say “she did nothing compared to twilight” and it makes me so upset, if they want to boil down Sunny’s lifelong journey of reuniting ponykind to just a short adventure then you have to boil down what twilight did to “finishing a spell”. Why is being the twilight of your time not a princess worthy task?
2. “the animation is tacky”
Yes, animation in chapter 1 was a MAJOR downgrade from the movie, but that’s to be expected. The animators were just getting used to 3D animation in that style and they didn’t have that big of a budget to work with, the latest chapter was so animated it was amazing. I will admit, that thing where they lean forward and their hooves scrunch is kinda weird but it’s easy to get past with everything else to look at on screen.
3. “I don’t like how the show is set up”
I usually see this for one of two reasons, it’s either too “childish” or they don’t like how it’s connected to g4. MLP has always been a kids show, directed at young girls in the past but now it’s more for everyone. G1, g2, and g3 were pretty “mindless” and didn’t make much sense at times but we all still love them bc it’s what we may have grown up with. G5 has an actual story to tell, just in a simpler way bc it’s a KIDS show. G4 was a FAMILY show, there is an important difference. A family show may be inherently for a younger audience but still has the capacity to make older audiences laugh and enjoy the show, like Bluey. A kids show is a show just for kids, it may not/doesn’t appeal to older audiences, like The Loud House or smth. I’m not all that familiar w/ popular kids shows because the audience the show is meant for is too young to be on the internet. I personally enjoy that I can take everything at face value in g5, it gives me a break from all the complicated values and conversations I have throughout the day and in other more complex media. And for the connected to g4 thing, that wasn’t a choice made by the team for g5. Hasbro told them to connect it to g4 in hopes that the g4 fans will come over to g5, which didn’t rlly work obviously. Considering that they HAD to make them connected, I think they did a good job.
4. “It got rid of all of twilights hard work”
things change, history gets muddled and sometimes it repeats itself. It’s actually a saying that if you forget history you’re doomed to repeat it, we know that the things taught in Maritime Bay’s history classes are actually false and that’s why everyone went to disharmony again. Twilight and her friends are regarded as being from “ancient times” so g5 is millennias in the future, you can’t seriously possibly expect things to stay the same FOREVER. Equestria may be a magical fun land but it isn’t a perfect heaven. In the first episode of g4 ponies thought that Nightmare Moon was just an old mares tale, and that was just one millennium. Let alone enough to get the current time out of “ancient times”.
End Notes
I rlly think anyone reading should give g5 a chance, you can’t knock it till you try it. The earlier chapters are harder to rlly love but it’s worth it, tbh that’s the same for g4. I tried to rewatch it from the beginning but I just couldn’t stand all the meanness to pinkie pie. We just have to remember that g5 isn’t meant for us, it’s not meant for an older audience. It’s a fun little kids show with a simple story, simple characters, and some songs. G4 got the exact same hate from g3 fans when it first came out and look how great it turned out to be.
In the end, it’s fine if you don’t like it. But you have to admit that g5 has done nothing wrong, it’s just not your cup of tea. Since when is a show deserving of hate for not being what you want it to be? When it’s not even for you?
if there are any more points I could respond to, then pls tell me. I would love to add to this but these are all the ones Ik

Character Design #4: Lagoona Blue
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My 4th character reveal for this month, Lagoona! I remember when I first saw the pink Lagoona for G3, and while it was an adjustment, I thought it would be super cool if she got a color-changing doll that turns blue and back to pink depending on hot/cold water (Like those Barbie Mermaidia/Color Reveal dolls), to alter her appearance in fresh water. Don't know if Mattel would ever do that, but consider this idea to be why I have a pink variant of Lagoona. I found a pretty cool way to incorporate it, I think!
Name: Lagoona Blue Aliases: Age: 15 Pronouns: She/Her Monster Type: Sea Monster/Ocean Nymph Hybrid Descendant Of: Wade Gillman-Blue and Darya Blue Freaky Flaw: “Moisturizing my skin is a constant on land, or I dry up real quick. My hair also gets streaks of blue from chlorine in the school's pool, and pink when I'm in fresh water. I think it goes well with my swim team uniforms!” Grade Level: 2nd year/Sophomore Favorite Subject: Oceanography Character Description: In the depths beyond the coast of Australia, Lagoona thrived as Great Scarrier Reef's renowned aqua dancer. After a traumatic incident during one of her performances, she was left struggling with performance anxiety. Wishing to transfer away from her school in the Reef, she swam the shoreline of Salem to attend Monster High, starting in her freshman year, living in her father's vacation home on the beach side. She was afraid at first to join the school's swim team, fearing another public performance mishap, but encouragement from the team captain at the time convinced her to give it a try. She was elected to be his predecessor before his graduation, a title she carries dutifully. Going into the new year, Lagoona hopes to open an aqua dancing team for Monster High, to perform with the fearleaders and rekindle the flame she had lost before.
Additional Info: - Lagoona carries herself in a way that pretty much everyone can get along with. She encourages everyone she meets to face their fears or to try their hand (or claw) at a new skill. If there's a way to support her friends' talents and interests, she'll be first in line to do so. - While she still struggles with her performance anxiety, she has found ways to cope with her fear and face it head-on. Her former captain advised to focus on the water, not the audience, which has helped her greatly. - After joining the swim team in the previous year, she met her boyfriend Gil, a fresh water monster. His family despises her, but both of them stay together against their wishes. He often stays at her beach house to avoid his parents. - Because she is a sea monster, as opposed to a river monster, she has the ability to survive in both environments. However, the lack of salt in fresh water causes a change in Lagoona's appearance, but does not affect her ability to breathe. -- When she is in fresh water, a majority of her skin turns a salmon pink hue. Her eyes deepen to a dark brown-hazel, and her platinum blonde hair deepens to a more common shade of blonde. -- She can still swim, though her speed isn't as fast as it is in salt water. - Most of her family, especially her father, are always present for her competitions. Because her mother cannot leave the ocean, her father records every competition to show her. It may sound discouraging to her anxiety, but knowing her family supports her makes it all the more worth it, no matter if her team wins or loses. - Prior to the AU's beginning, Lagoona mostly hangs out with her teammates, though she has encountered Gil's manster friends on occasion. - Besides her sport passions in the pool, she loves to play volleyball, often inviting her team to play beach volleyball at her home. Her swim captain duties prevent her from joining MH's volleyball team, as they both run in the same season.

So I Got Cleo's G3 Doll
Here's my thoughts under the cut. Just wanna put a disclaimer that I am someone who doesn't consider themself a fan of Gen 3, but is keeping an open mind. So just keep that in mind as you read, I am biased and do compare her to the G1 dolls, but I try to give credit where credit is due.
Like I said previously, I love the doll itself. Her face up is pretty (mine does have a slight imperfection, but its subtle enough that I'm not bothered by it), her hair is pretty, her skin tone and the shimmer they added to it are beautiful. I love her new body as well, though I do wish her torso and neck were a little longer. Specifically I love her big ears and hands. I do like G1 Cleo's hand pose a little bit more, but overall her new hands are great, and because they're bigger they're easier to remove. And finally, this will probably be an unpopular opinion, but I could do without the chest articulation in place of something else, like a doll stand.
I can't say much on the quality of her hair as it's not something I'm all that knowledgeable about. All I can say is that it feels more...plasticy? Compared to her G1 doll's hair. I'm having a hard time getting it to stay flat. I also think it's kinda odd that they seemingly made it a point to give all the dolls long brushable hair, but didn't provide brushes. Don't get me wrong, I have an abundance of Monster High brushes and don't need any more, but kids brand new to the series don't. And as someone with nieces, I can say for sure that they love brushing doll hair. I feel like doll stands and hair brushes are pretty standard things for dolls to come with nowadays, especially at that price range.
I'm very amused at how much she looks like Nefera, in the sense that the two of them look even more related than G1 Cleo and Nefera. It does look to me as though they took more inspiration from Nefera's G1 design more than Cleo's, which is interesting. I also discovered that Nefera's shoes, though they don't fit, match G3 Cleo's outfit pretty well, aside from the black in them.
Speaking of G3 Cleo's outfit...that's where my biggest disappointment lies.
I haven't exactly been subtle about my dislike for her boots. They don't go with the style of her dress, and overall I think giving a character who grew up in a hot desert climate boots is a super weird choice. On top of that I don't find them to be flattering on her new leg molds. Her calves are much thicker now, and adding thick boots to them really accentuates it and makes her look slightly awkward and disproportionate. However the actual quality of them is pretty good. There's a decent amount of detail, and I appreciate that the slit in the back of them doesn't go all the way up so they can't lose their shape, which is actually an issue I have with a couple G1 dolls. I would say the same for her accessories, they're well detailed and the paint job on them is really nice.
Her dress is where things take a nosedive. I think before I was so distracted by how much I disliked her boots that I didn't pay that much attention to her dress. But now that I have her and have felt the material I'm really disappointed by it. I don't know what material was used to make it, but I can assure it's plastic and pretty cheap feeling. Compared to G1 Cleo's clothes it feels like a cheap costume. I will say this material is probably more play proof, but I do have G1 Cleo's basic outfit, which is over ten years old by now, and her jumpsuit still looks brand new, and the material is so soft. It feels like real clothes. And compared to other modern doll lines the quality of her dress is kinda embarrassing. They couldn't have used a nicer material?? And aside from that, she has this new beautiful body mold, I would have really hoped that they'd have given her an outfit to accentuate it a bit more, like Draculaura's does.
Interestingly, I think her outfit in the show and on the box art would look better on her doll, and her doll's outfit would look better on her 3D model.
tldr; the doll is gorgeous, she should have come with a brush and a doll stand, her accessories are well detailed, and the quality of her dress is cheap.

FINALLY AFTER TEN THOUSAND YEARS MONSTER HIGH G3 APPEARS IN MY COUNTRY!
...
But I don’t buy online, so I’ll wait for when they’re here locally.
Still, if any Mexican here wants to buy the dolls
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They’re in the Bodega Aurrera Website (Also Howliday Draculaura)
They’re actually cheaper than what I was expecting, considering that the Rainbow High dolls are 949 pesos at the cheapest (About 48-ish dollars), these ones are 38-ish, which yes, is expensive, but again, not that expensive for us. The budgets are the equivalent of about 17-ish dollars, so I’m sorry random little girl I will fight to buy them.
I have learned from past “mistakes” and if I can’t buy them all at once, I’m getting at least Draculaura first, as she always used to sold out in G1. ALWAYS.
Also I hope we get the whole squad, I kind of get that Toralei, Ghoulia and Deuce don’t show up because they’re exclusives and those can get weird, but where is Lagoona? I only need her and Ghoulia! (And Twyla)
Wait... a quick search shows them also in Walmart Mexico at the same prices, and also the same dolls.
Liverpool has had them for some time, but they’re crazy if they think I’m gonna pay 1800 pesos for a single doll (about 90 dollars). The budget Draculaura also shows up on the search for 389 pesos, which isn’t so bad (almost 20 bucks) but the price ar Bodega and Walmart is still better

ok it was about time I give you guys my honest opinions on the G3 designs (the cartoon ones) because it's such a mixed bag I really can't just say "it's good" or "it's bad"
Tumblr media
CLAWDEEN- the design is super cute but it doesn't say "Clawdeen Wolf" to me. G1 and G2 Clawdeen was a fashionista and I don't like how it seems like G3 Clawdeen isn't. It takes away a lot of her personality, which was very watered down for the movie, so I hope her character arc in the show involves her gaining the confidence the OG Clawdeen was known for. Also the hair should be darker- that much purple feels distracting. Some touches of green wouldn't be bad, also. I love that she's Afrolatina, but hate that her skin is getting lightened left and right. All in all, I can say "good, but not good enough".
Tumblr media
DRACULAURA- she's flawless. Ok, not really, but I like her. The new clothes are rather underwhelming compared to the G1 and G2 looks but they're still good. I love the addition of the hat, the split dye, and her being Filipino and plus size, but I miss the pigtails. I also feel like her personality, too, should be explored more in the show. The movie had her go from aloof to friendly and sweet as she opened up to Clawdeen and Frankie, and that was AMAZING. Final verdict: G1 and G2 Draculaura looked great but were a little grating; G3 Draculaura is more likable (to me) but her outfit doesn't go nearly as hard.
Tumblr media
FRANKIE- personality and design wise? Frankie is the saving grace of the reboot. Making them a secondary protagonist allows the burden of being relatable to be lifted from their shoulders, and that's how Frankie really starts to shine. The same had happened in G2. Making Frankie a more "dorky nerd" type of character is a great choice. Also: trans! But dear god, I want to kick the Universal execs on the ribs- Frankie isn't the same without green skin, neck bolts, and a big ole square Frankenstein head. That's just... wrong. Still, the design is cute and the clothes are great, but the neons throw me off. Personally, I think Frankie works best with dark colors and goth fashions. So yay to the overall character, nay to the new outfit. It's not too bad, but it isn't something I'd make Frankie wear, at least... not all the time? I think some elements of the G3 outfit can easily be blended in with the G1 outfit, but they're so different, it just clashes.
Tumblr media
DEUCE- I miss the red accents and the lack of sleeves, but other than that, Deuce's design really has come around. He's way more snakelike and has a more defined signature color. Plus the glasses not being opaque, while taking away some mystery to his eyes, really make him more expressive. And that jacket? Amazing. As for his personality- I think the movie was trying to develop Deuce as something more than Cleo's boyfriend, but somewhat failed. He's nowhere as punk as G1 Deuce, and a lot of things about him felt like the writers fumbling to make him "cute". I don't know; I hope the cartoon doesn't go that direction and instead allows him to develop in a more natural way.
Tumblr media
CLEO- this is the one design that is all in all an improvement. Darker skin? Great. Lots of blue? Great. Golden accents? Great. The makeup? Great. The jewelry? Great. It's all great. My one gripe is that they've made her skin look weirdly metallic which.......... makes me a little scared, ngl. Please tell me it's body glitter. Dark skin Cleo but at what cost... Now as for her personality: I really do hope they don't take her down the same route as the movie in which she was just a mean girl with nothing much to her other than being snooty and eventually befriending Clawdeen. The OG Cleo had MEAT and BACKSTORY to her meanness. They better not leave that out in the cartoon.
Tumblr media
HEATH- the design looks terrible, overall, but I'll say that 1) putting his skin on the orange side is a change for the better and 2) having his color palette have cooler tones is innovative. I certainly would not out it on his sweatshirt though. At least movie!Heath had a cohesive design, with mostly warm colors and his varsity jacket acting as balance. I can't say much about movie Heath's personality because, to make a story short, he didn't do much. He was implied to be a troublemaker, but he just showed up for a couple of scenes and that was it. I like that they will lean into exploring his temper but that would have fit Holt more... the same way Clawdeen's arc in the movie would have fit Holt more. Also I want to see how they spin the "son of Hades" thing, because I get the feeling it will be C.A. Cupid 2.0.
Tumblr media
LAGOONA- it's been said before and I will say it again: the design is amazing, but it doesn't feel much like Lagoona. Which is strange, since from what little we saw of Lagoona's personality in the movie, she is going to be very much G1 Lagoona with a new coat of paint. Speaking of strange things, they made her be Colombian, as a nod to the original Creature of the Black Lagoon (her dad)- but her new design is more mermaid-ish? As for her clothes, they're great, though I would have gone for a different color, probably darker (the whole of G3 is in dire need of dark colors). Though the main change I'd make is making her skin aqua blue again. Or another shade of pink. This pink color is just wrong. Why not fuchsia? What's wrong with fuchsia?
Tumblr media
TORALEI- I'm honestly wondering how they're going to make Toralei being a "conservative" monster work... but from her design, I deduce she'll just be the regular mean Toralei, just now with a hatred of humans sprinkled in. As for her family though? A mystery. Her design isn't bad, and I think it's the best one of them all along with Cleo's, with her new hair being cooler than G1's, but the outfit, while good, is still a downgrade. Purple and white don't work with her. She needs black and orange. And pants. For the love of god give her pants.
Tumblr media
HEADLESS HEADMISTRESS- G3 headmistress was a step down from G1. Or a couple hundred steps down. Personality-wise. But design wise, this one is better. That's all I have to say. Love the axe earrings.
OVERALL OPINION: G3 designs aren't bad but they aren't good. Most of them are, while iconic, not THE iconic designs that made Monster High what it is. I don't hate them, but I don't really like them a lot. They need darker colors and edgier fashion. Some changes I consider improvements, but most of them are meh at best. In short: I don't like the reboot, in general, but I like enough things about it to be interested in seeing where it goes, particularly story-wise. There is still room for improvement and I think it would be a disservice to older fans to not listen to them.

Movie night (a Code Lyoko fan-fin by NemesisAdraste for @that-g3-obsessive in the @codesecretsanta gift exchange.)
This story happens somewhere during season 2. Don't mind the year of the story and the movies please. I know they don't all fit, but let just say that in the CL-verse they do.
It was a normal autumn night for all the parisian inhabitants.
All of them?... No!
In the streets of la ville lumière there was a group of young teens with bags on their back that, if you'd ask any grumpy neighbors, were definitely up to something. This group made of 3 boys and a pink haired girl, all about the same age, were heading to a specific house that wasn't theirs and no one could have guessed what they were ganging up for…
Ulrich : Oh my god would you cut it Odd?! We're just going to have a movie night at Yumi's house and her parents and Hiroki will be there so stop the drama!
Odd : What? Can't I have a little fun?!
Aelita : Yeah Ulrich, don't be a party pooper, that was funny.
Ulrich : Maybe but he does this all the time and I'm getting sick of it.
Odd : Come on buddy, a little laugh never killed nobody.
Ulrich : No, but people had died for being too annoying.
Jérémie : Ok kids stop it we arrived.
They had indeed arrived and Aelita knocked on the door. Yumi answered, already in pyjamas (a comfy Tortoro one) for the night and with a big smile.
Yumi : Hi! Come in!
The warriors entered the house and Hiroki immediately welcomed Ulrich and showed him his room before letting him change into his pyjamas. The other warriors did the same after greeting Yumi's family. Once they were all set, the Geisha's parents prepared some popcorn while the kids were discussing which movie to watch.
Odd : What about "Singularity"? It is about a self-aware AI that we programmed to find the world's biggest problem and to solve it, but once we connected it to the internet, it didn't take a second for it to find out it was humanity the problem. I saw it and it is really good!
Aelita : Yeah I'll pass.
Jérémie : Me too.
Odd : Ok… oh what about "I robot"?! You can't go wrong with Will Smith!
Yumi : I love Will Smith too, but "I robot" really?
Odd : what's the problem?
Yumi : This is a fun movie night Odd. It is meant to get us out of our daily trouble so I think it is better to choose a movie that is NOT about an evil AI.
Odd : I see… but I still want an action movie…
Hiroki comes in the room in this very moment
Hiroki : I want an action movie too!
Yumi : I'm fine with an action movie, just not an AI movie ok.
Hiroki : Yeah she never liked those, it gave her nightmares. It's weird because she watches horror movies sometimes that are way worse and she is just fine!
Yumi : Enough Hiroki or you won't watch the movie with us!
Hiroki : Well mom and dad said I can so…
Yumi : Hiroki!
Hiroki : Ok fine I'll stop. So what do we watch?
Odd : What about "Pacific Rim" No AI, just big human controlled robots fighting aliens coming from the center of the earth.
Yumi's mom coming from the kitchen with the popcorn : Isn't it a bit too violent for Hiroki?
Hiroki : Mom I'm not a baby I can take it!
Yumi's mom : Ok then. It is a special night after all. But don't come into our bed if you have nightmares tonight! Have fun!
Odd : Ok let's do this! You'll see this is a great movie you're gonna love it! Especially you Ulrich and Yumi!
Ulrich : How so?
Odd : You'll see! 😜
And so they started the movie and watched it. Just like Odd has predicted they all loved it and Ulrich and Yumi knew why Odd had said it was especially for them when they came to the "four hits" stick fight game scene. It was awesome and they promised to try it someday. Aelita was amazed by the special effects and was especially receptive to the traumas scenes. Jérémie took mental notes about all the scientific stuff surrounding the Jaegers and its neural interface. Hiroki just had a blast watching the fight scenes and Odd was equally impressed by the work in front and behind the camera like everytime he sees it.
Odd : See I told you it was great! Say Einstein, do you think you can program some Jaegers on Lyoko?
Hiroki : Lyoko? What is that?
Jérémie : Nothing… just a video game I program for fun in my free times.
Hiroki : Cool! Can I see it?!
Jérémie : Not until it is finished. But when I do you'll be the first to know promise.
Hiroko : COOL! Thanks! What is the game about?
Yumi : Hiroki, it's way past your bedtime now.
Hiroki : You're not fun
Yumi : Hiroki!
Hiroki : Ok I'll go to my room… leave you alone with your boyfriend.
Yumi : For the 1000000 times Ulrich is not my boyfriend!
Hiroki : Yeah sure. (He goes up to his room.)
Jérémie : Way to go Odd now I have a video game to eventually present to Hiroki.
Odd : Hey you came up with this cover story! Besides, he will probably forget it by next week.
Jérémie : Hope you're right.
Odd : You didn't answer my question though, could you program Jaegers on Lyoko?
Jérémie : No.
Odd : Why?
Jérémie : First of all, I have enough with the anti-virus as it is to start thinking about programming new stuff, second of all, didn't you see in the movie all the side-effects it had? It's too much an unnecessary risk to add. Beside all monsters are relatively small so how would a giant robot be of any use?
Odd : The monsters we know are tiny, but what if X.A.N.A. make a new real big one?! Bigger than the schyphozoa I mean! Bigger than the towers even!
Ulrich : Stop it Odd. Since we found the 5th sector I'm sure we have encountered all the monsters in X.A.N.A army.
Odd : Ok, Ok no Jaegers. But don't complain to me when we'll be in front of this future colossal monster and we will be the tiny one.
Yumi : I promise we won't. Ok, now I can't sleep on big action scenes because they are way too exciting, so how about a light comedie before we go to bed?
Aelita : Yeah I'd love too! How about an Astérix? I heard good stuff about those animated movies and how they are a classic here.
Ulrich : Yeah they are fun even if they are for kids.
Odd : Don't listen to him princess, cartoons are for everyone and the Astérixs are the best! My fave is "Les 12 travaux d'Astérix." Let's see this one. They even introduce all the characters at the beginning so it's a good one to start with.
Yumi : Ok let's watch this!
And they watched and enjoyed it all together, and then went to sleep. Those moments were rare and precious so when they arrived, they didn't let a second of it split. They all continued this wonderful night in their dreams hoping that someday this will be their routine instead of fighting.
THE END.
I hope you enjoyed it 😅
Happy holidays to you and all your loved one! Please give me your appreciation in the comments!
P.s. in case you wondered , this is the famous Pacific Rim stick fight scene!

Week 23 ♥
—————————————— Title: Ghostly Memories [Moodboard] Collaborator Name: iam93percentstardust Link: HERE♥ Square Filled: I4 - Body Sharing Ship/Main Pairing: Bucky/Tony Rating: General Major Tags & Triggers: N/A Summary: Tony is one of the most powerful mediums on the east coast, possibly in the entire country. He can hardly go anywhere without being tracked down by some ghost or another asking for his help as they cross over into the next life. Bucky isn’t like that though. Tony is the one who finds Bucky after a dying man tells him about his long lost best friend. Bucky doesn’t know why he can’t communicate with the living, why he can’t find a single medium who can tell Stevie about the truth behind his death. Even Tony can’t hear him until he suggests an alternate method, a dangerous one. Bucky can’t tell Tony what’s wrong but he can show him - by taking over his body, showing Tony his memories as if they were his own. Word Count: 0 —————————————— Title: Stop Me if You’re Heard This Before Collaborator Name: Faustess Link: HERE♥ Square Filled: B2 - Leap of Faith Ship/Main Pairing: Bucky/Tony/Steve Rating: Teen Major Tags & Triggers: pre-Serum Steve, Getting to Know Each Other Summary: An artist, a super-soldier, and a billionaire walk into a bar - you haven't heard this one yet, have you? Tony Stark, recently divorced dad, head of Stark Industries' R&D department, and Iron Man, has been lonely. Rhodey's the best co-parent anyone could ask for, but he's moving on... and Tony's lonely. Bucky Barnes was pulled out of the ice almost five years ago. Even now, he's still not comfortable with the celebrity that goes along with being Captain America. And it's isolating being both younger than your teammates and at least 3 generations older. Bucky's lonelier than he'd ever thought possible. Steve Rogers made a name for himself as a graphic designer and illustrator - good with both digital apps and hand-drawn sketches. But romantically, there may as well be tumbleweeds and dust in his bedroom - it's that close to a ghost town. It's hard to be taken seriously, though when you're 5'4" and 100 lbs soaking wet... and that's a lonely life. So a better way to phrase this would be: three lonely hearts walk into a bar to see what they can find. This explains Bucky's reaction in the previous chapter and we hear about a mission he/Winter did that involves some canon-typical violence. But Flame wrote it, so it's not graphic because she doesn't know how to write that kind of stuff. But if you'd still rather skip, scroll to where Tony talks about shampoo. Word Count: 19073 —————————————— Title: The Auld Triangle Collaborator Name: betheflame Link: HERE♥ Square Filled: O2 - Helping Behind the Scenes Ship/Main Pairing: Bucky/Tony/Steve Rating: Mature Major Tags & Triggers: Alternate Universe - Bar/Pub, Alternate Universe - No Powers, established bucky/tony, Mutual Pining, Fluff, shameless flirting, Polymory, Poly Negotiation Summary: In which Steve owns a failing Irish bar and Bucky works at that bar and is also married to Tony and the latter two desperately want to bring the former one into their relationship... He thinks it’s got something to do with Stane.” A chill ran up Tony’s spine. “It always has something to do with Stane.” Word Count: 1085 —————————————— Title: Somewhere in Paradise [Moodboard] Collaborator Name: iam93percentstardust Link: HERE♥ Square Filled: N5 - OT4 Ship/Main Pairing: Bucky/Tony/Steve/Thor Rating: General Major Tags & Triggers: None Summary: Following graduation, Tony passes the company off to his PA and sets off for a year-long vacation, starting with Italy, where his mother grew up. They had spent Tony’s birthday at his lake house in upstate New York and Bucky’s in Barcelona. For Valentine’s, Tony had flown them both to Paris. To be told that they’re going to stay here for their anniversary, an event that Bucky would argue is bigger than either Valentine’s or their birthdays, is a surprise to say the least. But when he steps off the elevator to reveal the penthouse lights dimmed low, a picnic blanket spread out in front of the fireplace, and Tony standing nervously beside it, wearing nothing but the silk robe Bucky bought him for his birthday, he can’t bring himself to be upset by it. i’m HERE, i’m QUEER, and i’m FINALLY FINISHED WITH THAT PUZZLE so here’s an intro post!
Tumblr media
[ OLIVIA HOLT / POLYTROPOS / THRASOS / MUSE 1 ] / [ PARKER HASSAN ] is a [ NINETEEN ] year old [ COMMUNICATIONS ] major. [ SHE ] is known for being [ INTREPID & DISARMING ] but [ BRASH & UNRELIABLE ]. when i think of them, i imagine [ GRASS-STAINED JEANS, OVERFILLED ICE CREAM CONES, & IMAC G3 COMPUTERS ]. and even though they’re a proud HU student now, we all have our roots. theirs run back to them being a [ OAK PARK ACADEMY (WILLIAMS WING) ] graduate.  i asked around and it turns out they [ ARE ] an AOP student. in their interview, they managed to woo the admissions team by [ STRIKING OUT TOP-NOTCH BATTERS WITH EITHER ARM ]. i guess that’s all there is to know! unless…
tw: minor mention of drug and alcohol abuse
BASIC INFO
full name: parker theresa hassan
birth date: april 13th
pronouns: she/her
hometown: hillsborough, north carolina
sexuality: pansexual
height: 5′1″ on a good day
eye color: brown
hair color: blonde
build: athletic
tattoos: the ny yankees emblem on the back of her neck
piercings: earlobes, won’t go any further because she would have to plug them during baseball season and it’s a pain in the ASS
style: comfort over style, function over fashion. unless she’s going out then as few clothes as possible while still being considered “decent”
favorite color: orange
favorite food: cupcakes
zodiac: aries sun, leo moon, sagittarius rising
mbti: estp
hogwarts house: gryffindor
enneagram: type 7 wing 8
temperament: sanguine-melancholic
alignment: chaotic neutral
RAMBLING MESS OF FACTS
so parker here is your typical middle child, with two older brothers and two younger sisters
and as a middle child she had to be louder than everyone, which came easy for her since she was the fussiest baby out of all five hassan children
(she could hold a scream longer than both of her older brothers combined)
but she was giggly as much as she was fussy, and the MOUTH ON THAT GIRL
(def called her brother a dick when she was mad at him at the age of two, because she heard someone else get mad at him and call him a dick)
so naturally being the loudmouth she is, her mother had hoped she’d follow in her footsteps and pursue cheerleading, since neither of her brothers had any interest
so ofc parker showed a talent for baseball instead lmao
her pops tom hassan was a minor league baseball player who was on his way to the majors when he suffered a career ending knee injury
so yes he lived vicariously through his little girl obvi
she started in tee-ball, which is y’know fine and dandy for a three year old girl to do, but it was a bit of an upset for their town’s traditional southern ways when she wanted to join little league
she still got her way though lmao and became the first girl in the town’s history to join little league, breaking down barriers for girls everywhere 🤪
fast forward to high school and she ended up joining the boy’s baseball team and was their star pitcher
that is until her sophomore year when things took a turn for the worst
her dad flew out to every single one of her games no matter what
until he didn’t
one day parker was one out away from the school’s first no-hitter and she looked up into the stands to find her dad and he wasn’t there
so she flubbed the pitch and there went her no-hitter
after the game she went home and found out her dad had left without saying goodbye
four years later she still hasn’t heard from him (tho if we’re being honest, if she took the rose colored glasses off she’d realize it was for the best bc her dad is not a good guy)
that summer was rough for her, and it was the first time she didn’t go home for break (she’s v close with her fam and misses them a lot but couldn’t handle not seeing her dad there)
she fell off the rails a bit during the fall semester, but her bff (wanted connection!!!) convinced her that she had to get it together for baseball season
out of spite, she couldn’t let him ruin that for her too
so now fall is when she lets loose, and then she’s sober as a judge when she’s in baseball mode
ok some fast facts!!
she’s a big ole cuddler
she keeps sneaking stray dogs into her room bc she loves dogs so much and wants to save them all
(stray cats she usually leaves alone bc they like being outside but she still loves them)
her best feature is her ass
she has a radio show through the school
she is the first person you’ll notice in a room
you either love her or hate her there’s no in between
she has five dogs and four cats at home, and they all miss her terribly when she’s gone (though they tolerate the rest of her family)
(imagine fitting NINE ANIMALS into your bed at one time bc that’s what it’s like when she’s home for breaks)
she can’t cook for shit and also can’t mix drinks so unless you’re making a drink for her, she’s drinking it straight (or just incredibly unbalanced lmfao)
uhhhh there’s some wc in /tagged/wc but i’m wine drunk and can’t think of any off the top of my head so if you wanna plot hit that heart!!!

Gauntlet 3, Episode 3
We all know that a tweak here and there is necessary to make any challenge into good TV.  No problem; we get it.   When we go too far, though, we open ourselves to criticism as some fans have noted around the Internet since last night's episode.  We would be smart to heed their wisdom because we want them to keep watching week after week... But first, a brief time out for this commercial message brought to you by "How to get camera time 101."  - Do you need camera time to extend your reality 15 minutes?  It's easy; follow Rule 1… make some negative comment about Beth.   No need to worry if anywhere else it would be ageist, sexist or racist… on a challenge it's all fair game. -  Don't worry about the price.  Just charge it.  Your integrity bank account is kind of low anyway.  And now back to our blog: Let's start with tonight's second mission:
I'm confused; does this seem fair?  We have 15 players (not counting Coral) and the rookies have 11 (not counting Johanna).   During the earlier "Screw Me" mission, Derek, as an example, had to go twice.  TJ stated that it was required to even out the teams – to ensure the teams competed fairly and ensuring equality in numbers between the teams.  Yet, while that made sense before, and gave the rookies hope, that ball is thrown out the window for tonight's second team mission.
TJ said the rookies had an advantage.  Duh…  Really?   Thanks for that observation TJ. That was obvious to the rookies, veterans, crew... and Pedro walking down the beach with his beer . Let's do the math.  Just assuming that the average time per person is 2 minutes, then the veterans must make up 8 minutes just catch up with the rookies' numerical advantage.  Does this seem possible to anyone?  Eight minutes?  No, of course it doesn't.  We all knew it –cast and crew alike -- and it appears to have been to many viewers did also, given their overnight comments.  Nobody quit or loafed through it, even though winning simply was not a realistic possibility.  We needed eight people to halve an average time of two minutes just to catch the rookies.  Still, the veterans to win, the rookies would have had to invent a way to screw up to lose their time advantage. Get out your calculators (or ask 4.0 GPA Evelyn) and do the math for the probability analysis that the rookies would lose.  Even with unrealistic assumptions, the probability is nearly zero.  I think the rookies would really have preferred to go against us one-on-one with a few rookies going twice or even by picking four veterans to sit out to force equal sized teams. Don't get me wrong.  No sour grapes from my corner.  I'm not entirely unhappy that the veterans lost.  At this point, sending any veteran guy leaving is OK by me; but, pardon me if I would like it all to seem a little more honest.  I know what the guy's plan is for us; we all know.      Was there some overall worry that there wouldn't be much of a show if the veterans won every mission?  What would happen at the final mission, would they just give the veterans their check and then show highlights for an hour?  It's a tough call. The show needs to be entertaining, but also it needs to be consistent.  I don't think we were.  The "slider" puzzle –
Sorry, but whose idea was this and where is he/she working now?  If anyone can make a credible argument as to how this gauntlet could possibly be good TV, I'll send you one of our reality calendars free – (without me in it, if you prefer).  Just maybe the puzzle stuff works on Survivor, but they surround it with some other physical element of competition to give it some sense of action.  It's been done before, too, with success.  The puzzle idea was incorporated in Fresh Meat and again during The Duel.  I wish we had done a little better for G3. This wasn't just a good idea gone bad.  It looks like a bad idea from the beginning, and impossible to execute in any way that doesn't make fans wonder what has gone wrong.    Was this really a team dynamic gauntlet where the focus was to be on close-ups of the veterans fighting to help their favorite guy finish his puzzle?  I just don't get it. Now for a couple of other things from tonight.
As for Johnny going home on, some might say it was Karma for the "Tyler" comments the week before…  But in Evelyn's blog last night, she wrote that we were wrong to put Johnny in.  I agree completely—our bad; but, when Johnny and CT are arguing not to win but to see who can shout the loudest and for the longest time, it's not like anyone with another idea wants to speak up.  The fact is that Evan did say he wanted to face Johnny.  He was two-faced in his comments last night and it raises a question about his honestly in other challenge things.  Just man up Evan; you got exactly who you wanted.  May it bite you in the ass later!
Coral, roomie, I love ya, but helping Evan with the puzzle?  WHY?  You know Evan's been playing you!  The "stale meat" boys will do you no good.  We could have sent one of them home tonight.  We dropped the ball.  At the beginning of the show tonight you see, Katie, Robin, Coral and me talking.  I think we all were seeing our going into the gauntlet the same way.  We each wanted our destiny to be in our own hands.  Making the selection any other way goes hand in hand with team members deciding to throw missions—you see that coming from Evan in the preview for next week.  It will be interesting to see how this plays out in future weeks.    Remember the earlier commercial?  Well, it's always interesting to see the cast interviews that are done after an event is over.  Production gets us to talk about people – that is there job -- and they match that up with video from the events.  Danny talks trash about everyone and tonight it's my turn: "Beth is going to go blind in 20 years, so she might as well get used to it."  Wow, that takes wit...for a 5th grader!  Danny, I like you-- and like you and Melinda together even more, but if you are going to trash talk, please at least be funny!  Successful humor contains an essential element of truth.  This one falls flat on its face.   Does anyone ever see one in 10,000 people that age being blind? A few years ago, it was "Evil Beth," then it became "Fat Beth" (I weight the same now as I did then, and my dress size is a 6), and now Danny thinks I'm apparently ready for a rocking chair and social security.  Evan and Kenny do a little show and compare me to a dog.  As if some of these guys should be trashing anyone's looks? Aren't we going to run out of stereotypes soon?  What I see emerging is the same thing Nehemiah did last week – using me as the cause-celeb for their camera time.  Just once, I'd love for the shots that some guys take to have a little credibility.   I find myself laughing at how shallow they are.  If I have to keep repairing all their 15-minute clocks, I want union membership.  The pay is better!  At least when I trash talk, I can say it to everyone's face...  Such cowards some of these people seem to be.  At the same time I find it necessary to CACKLE because I've been called every name in the book.  Make fun of me because I'm "old," Danny; the truth is that if this were a duel format, I might be picking to go home someone you know over a decade younger than me.  Shall we laugh about that?  Nothing these guys say is going to affect me.  I've been around the block, and if I'm not bothered when I'm called fat or old, then I can handle everything else... My Bottom Lines this week:  -  Last week Gauntlet 3 was the 3 rated cable show. Great.  I just hope we don't see the puzzle again!
-  If the game is going to be tinkered with, then can we at least find a way to keep Johnny Bananas around so viewers can watch Casey run around naked?  We can always use more male fans watching the show.
-  If you are going to trash talk, please make sense and be funny!  Take lessons from Coral!

Most Demanding Female Roles in Musical Theatre
Hey everyone! I’m gonna be on vacation for the next few days, so I decided to do some shorter posts and queue them once a day while I’m gone! If you have suggestions on some shorter articles I could do on the go, feel free to send topics my way! I’m gonna do a male counterpart to this post, as well as articles for plays.
I’m going to begin that this is in my personal opinion. I’m gonna be just kinda going as I think. I will not be ranking these in any way. ALSO this will not only pertain to lead roles! I’ll be looking at everyone!
Let’s Do This
Rose Hovick in Gypsy
Described as the following: “bossy, demanding, horrific, monster,” this role is kind of a no-brainer when it comes to what is considered demanding. Many amazing women of the theatre have played this role: Ethel Merman, Patti LuPone, Tyne Daly, Angela Lansbury, Imelda Staunton, Bernadette Peters, and just this summer, Carolee Carmello and Beth Leavel. The role is fairly vocally demanding. She sings several of the songs and she has to have a strong belt. She doesn’t dance much, but what really kills the actress is the acting. Tyne Daly described it as “a prize fight”. The role is very demanding. You have to be more or less a ham onstage, age at least ten years over the course of the story, and go through the ache of losing your favorite daughter to seeing the one you settle for become a stripper. All onstage. The character is such a facade. She proclaims that she wants what’s best for her children while she lives vicariously through them. Rose is the prime example of what a stage mother really is. In the final moments of the show, Rose has a mental breakdown in “Rose’s Turn” envisioning herself performing in front of an audience, followed by Louise and her reconciling in the end.
Edith Ewing Bouvier Beale/Edith Bouvier Beale in Grey Gardens
Christine Ebersole originated the mammoth of a role in the screen-to-stage adaptation of the timeless documentary in a dual role, playing “Big Edie” in Act One and “Little Edie” in Act Two. One thing that makes this role demanding is that these people she’s playing were real people who know what these people did, looked like, and sounded like, and if it doesn’t meet expectations, they walk away unsatisfied. The acting in this role is different because of the switch between characters between acts, but the demand for both characters is still there. Big Edie is detrimental in Act One as she tears apart Little Edie’s dreams, then the actress plays Little Edie in Act Two as a woman in her fifties, who reluctantly takes care of her mother despite the hurt she harbors. The actress has to have great comic chops and the ability to impersonate Little Edie in particular. The actress also has to have a very versatile voice to match the elegant Soprano of Big Edie and the squawky timbre (which sweetens quickly) of Little Edie. This is truly a fantastic role.
Margaret Johnson in The Light in the Piazza
This phenomenal woman decided to take her daughter on a trip to Italy, only to discover it wouldn’t be as much of a trip as it was a move. Margaret takes care of her daughter Clara, who is developmentally stalled. In a heartbreaking monologue in Act Two, Margaret explains that at Clara’s birthday party, they ordered a pony for her to play with and show her friends. Margaret went to answer the phone, and the second she wasn’t paying attention, the pony kicked Clara in the head, injuring her brain. Margaret, while in some cases overprotective, wants what’s best for her daughter. She goes through many journeys throughout the story. She watches her daughter grow up before her eyes, realizes the dissolve of her marriage, and ultimately joins a family. There are many asides and monologues that can be dug into and given meaning. This score is notably difficult. It’s filled with many high and low notes; Margaret’s range spans over two octaves (G3-G#5). Victoria Clark immortalized the role for all to see after it was professionally filmed and broadcast on PBS. Seeing a struggling middle-aged woman as the lead of a show isn’t often, and Adam Guettel’s show displays that platform with integrity.
The First Ladies in 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue
I did a post about this masterpiece of a flop last week. The actress who plays The First Ladies play the following roles: Abigail Adams, Eliza Monroe, and Julia Grant and Lucy Hayes (simultaneously). The actress must have strong Soprano chops, but also be a good character singer, especially for the tour de force, “Duet for One”. This is theatrically and vocally demanding. Bernstein gave us that. Praise.
Elle Woods in Legally Blonde
Some might say that this role is all fluff. I don’t agree. Elle is a vivacious human who thinks she knows what she wants, and discovers what she needs along the way. This role has to be a true triple threat, as you have to be able to sustain the demanding score, the constant energy, and multiple ensemble dance numbers. Elle is in almost every single song in the show. She has to dance her butt off. Not to mention that she also has to remain in the bubbly sorority girl archetype, but also becomes a stronger woman who begins to trust herself. It’s a very demanding role, and I don’t need blue hairs coming for me.
Diana Goodman in Next to Normal
Brought to life by one of my favorite actresses, Alice Ripley, Diana provides a story that shows her thoughts under a microscope. She suffers from Bipolar II Disorder that comes along with hallucinations of her deceased son, Gabe. Because of her struggle with mental illness, she pushes her daughter, Natalie, away and affects all those around her. What a woman has to go through as Diana is bare her soul. That role is truly for those who wish to leave it all on the stage. The role has a lot of belting in it, but ultimately is for a Mezzo. The range goes from Gb3-F#5 (yes, they’re enharmonic, but they’re written differently), so just on two octaves. Diana goes through several breakdowns throughout the show and ultimately leaves her family in hope that they will be better without her. This takes both a powerhouse actress and singer.
Cunegonde in Candide
This role has been performed by many actresses and singers, but. Cunegonde is the definition of elegant, but just a bit off her nut. She sings one of the most difficult musical theatre songs ever written, “Glitter and Be Gay” and has several duets with notes almost as high in “We Are Women,” “Oh, Happy We,” and “Make Our Garden Grow”. The score is incredibly difficult, so I would definitely say that this role is very demanding.
Margaret White in Carrie
Yes, I know this show was infamous for being kind of awful, but the place someone has to go to play this part is so dark that it’s scary. A woman like Margaret has clearly been abused of some sort. In fact, the book (I believe, it’s been a while since I’ve read it) reveals that Carrie was conceived by rape. It’s truly heartbreaking. This woman wants what is best for her daughter, even if she goes through some interesting ways to giver her that. The subtlety an actress has to have to not cross the line of making Margaret’s religion and motives borderline comical is great. The role seems very easy to make a caricature of Christian women over the area. The score in the revised version is quite difficult, calling for Margaret to be a Soprano who also has lower notes and some belting, although there’s plenty of room for stylistic choice! I’m just going off of the brilliance of Marin Mazzie. The role is quite demanding for anyone to step into.
Eva Peron in Evita
To play Eva Peron, a woman has to screlt her face off and sustain that for the entire night. The different places her voice would need to go is so vastly different. The range extends from E3-G5 without much of a break. The vocals are very demanding. Since I haven’t seen the show live and it’s *mostly* (?) thrusung, I’m not sure what all vigorous acting has to be done. But oh my Lord, the score is tough.
Trina in Falsettos
I don’t even know where to begin about this character. There’s very little dancing for the part, but there is just about everything you could think of in the other two departments. Her range spans two octaves, and she has to belt at the top of her range, but also have a nice an strong head voice throughout the show. The acting is very vulnerable. Trina is a person who has been exposed to a lot of hurt throughout her life. She goes through just about everything, and still comes out of it. This is a beautiful and heartbreaking role.
Veronica Sawyer in Heathers
The score in Heathers is pulsing with punk rock and 80s influences. Veronica is a very demanding part because of the plot points that happen to her. It’s a very interesting and complicated story that I don’t want to get into, but just know that this role is a whole step away from having the highest belted note in Musical Theatre history (A5), losing only to Jennifer Simard as Sister Mary Downy in Disaster!, who belts a B5. Veronica goes through a lot in this story, and is in most of the scenes in the show, and is also constantly singing and belting VERY high.
Dolly Gallagher Levi in Hello, Dolly!
I want to preface this with the fact that typically, this role is done by an older woman, so take that into circumstances. This role is loaded with stage time, comic timing, and singing. You have to have great comic chops, and depending on how you do it, one of three things with your singing voice: you can sing it in the original keys down the octave (which is the way it was originally done) which puts you as a super low Alto/Female Tenor, you can do it similar keys that Barbra Streisand did from the movie, taking the range to a Mezzo, or you can be a brave Soprano and sing it in the original Carol Channing keys, but sing everything up the octave. Any of the three are delightful. This is one of my favorite roles, and is TRULY demanding. The emotional journey (while not trolling Mr. Vandergelder) is beautiful for Dolly. She discovers so much about herself and what she becomes after she accepts Ephraim’s death and decides to move on with her life. It’s just sublime.
Effie Melody White in Dreamgirls
This is another role that would be very easy to make a caricature of. Effie is a troubled and talented woman. The role is very taxing vocally, and also the acting is very intense, especially in Act One. Effie truly has an amazing transformation from a misunderstood starlet to a confident woman. She doesn’t have a lot of time offstage until Act Two, and even then, she has an amazing solo.
Bess in Porgy and Bess
I don’t want to get into describing the heartbreak that this character goes through. Just know that there are a lot of traumatic events that happen to her and she still finds love (even though it ends different then you want). The score is incredibly demanding, even causing Broadway superstar Audra McDonald vocal problems. This is a fantastic role for an African-American Soprano who has great acting chops.
Dot/Marie in Sunday in the Park with George
Bernadette Peters did this brilliant role on Broadway and it was broadcast to the world on PBS. The dual role that actually switches and then switches back once again is very theatrically and vocally demanding. The role is onstage most of the show and is just very alive and energetic throughout the show, even when she plays an old woman. The beautiful and poetic words that just flow everywhere have so much meaning. There’s quite a bit of range that spans through the show as well.
Celie Harris Johnson in The Color Purple
There is such a delicate presence for this role. Celie is like a cat. She starts out like a kitten that is hushed and silenced, but by the end she is a roaring lion that will speak for everyone to hear. I adore the resilience this character has. LaChanze possibly had a lot of pressure to be like the movie. Cynthia Erivo definitely made the role personal to her, and it showed. Celie is a demanding role because of her constant stage time and the relentless score. The character literally spans from an E3 to a G5 in ONE song. Oh my Lord. But what a role. It really is amazing. And demanding.
I’m sure there are some that people feel I left out, but be sure to message or let me know your thoughts on this!

Honest review of my custom(s) Gen3 Jack and Sally ponies by Wendypony on Etsy!!!
What this review will cover: working with Wendy, quality of the ponies, how they've held up over the past 5 months (I ordered them in August) what I think of the customs overall!
Working with Wendy; she was an absolute joy to work with. At the time I ordered these customs, she had just moved houses. They were in a box with a bunch of other customs. She sent them to me three (3) days before Bronycon. I got them at the last possible moment, the day before Bronycon. She also sent Nightmare Before Christmas stationary that I feel bad using and two (2) lollipops. The whole experience was absolutely wonderful. 11/10. I will definitely be commissioning her!
Quality of the ponies; out of the box; Jack was in perfect condition. Sally was a bit squishy, but has firmed up over time.
Quality of the ponies; now; their manes are very long synthetic doll hair, as far as I can tell. They've gotten a bit knotted up over time, but its nothing a bit of pony spa day can't fix. I had to do this after bronycon because they were in a bag and I would pull them out to show them off and their manes got quite knotted. The spa day worked perfectly. Sally's body firmed up a lot since then, however while Jacks plastic is nice and firm, Sally still a teeny tiny bit squishy if I press in on her body. I don't do that often, though. And its very hard to notice.
What I think of the customs overall; I do wish Sally had stitches, however only if she was G4. As they are G3 customs, I wouldn't change a thing about them. They are absolutely beautiful.
Would I commission Wendy again? Of course! She was a joy to work with. I would love to add more G3 customs as I believe G3 ponies are the most beautiful ponies in the history of MLP. We'll see with G5 though. Hasbro has disappointed in the past, but I hope G5 ponies are at the very least accurate to the new TV series. I was going to collect G5 ponies from the start of their release. I missed out on that with G4 as I was 9 when the show started and didn't get into it until I was 15. So I couldn't collect the toys as they were coming out.
Annnnd thats the review! So glad to finally be sharing my babies on here!
(Please note: these customs were already made when I ordered them; she does take commissions though, and if I were to order from her again, it would be to commission an OC.)

BLUE CHEER (JUST A LITTLE BIT)
My time working with Blue Cheer.
Tumblr media
“Bridging the Digital Divide”                                                                            That’s what I’ve heard it called and much like Evel Knievel, I love to try and bridge that divide. If we have the technology to “Reach out and touch someone” like AT&T said, then we surely must honor the convenience and follow through with furthering a connection, if it calls for it.
Old friends, fellow collectors of Rock and/or Wrestling Icons. They’re all out there to be tapped. Its happened for me....many times!
Here is one such instance where I got off my butt and let my fingers do the walking.
Tumblr media
It all began with that show we all know and love, Antiques Roadshow.
The segment had a poster collector, so that had my ear as I continued to read in bed. I love paper and posters and books. Always have since I was a kid and started “collecting” KISS posters. Then my mother threw these all out one winter and I’ve never been the same. I hold onto everything. NEATLY…
But I digress….
A fellow was going through some posters he had on this particular segment and he had some San Francisco Psychedelic posters. That was interesting, BUT the one that caught my ear/eye was a Blue Cheer poster from Tastee-Freez. I was blown away.
Tumblr media
THE POSTER THAT STARTED THE WHOLE GYPSY BALL ROLLING....
First of all I LOVE BLUE CHEER and the juxtaposition of BC and Ice Cream was too much. I had to have it. I ran to my Mac G3 and dialed up that modem as fast as it would dial. Early daze… Then I proceeded to Google BC and see what they were up to these days. We all watched that killer Closet Classic on MTV of Summer Time Blues and that is where I fell in love with them.
Tumblr media
I sought out the records later in life, but here I was in the 2000’s? and where were they? I found a website and it had a contact for North American management for the band. I just threw out a quick email stating that I was a fan, owned a T-shirt printing company and was more than willing to help out if the EVER needed it.
The NEXT morning, I had an email from Rosalyn, the woman handling them here in the States. See, BC had relocated to Koln Germany and were doing just fine over there and in Japan. They never really stopped. She was so excited that I had reached out. She said the band loves it when their 1%’ers (BC fans) reach out to them, and especially if they offer help. I immediately got together with a friend I had at the White Eagle named Thomas. He was a super chill guy and struggling artist. He had a knack for retro 60’s looking stuff and he was up to the task.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He cranked out a 1% design and a logo and some other stuff. We printed up a variety of sample t-shirts and started the process of sending them to the band via Rosalyn in L.A.
Tumblr media
This part got to be a bit tedious so she eventually just gave me Dickie Petersons’ mailing address in Koln. We had a procedure for getting them to him and for getting his feedback (pun intended). In all the back and forth with Rosalyn, she mentioned that “I’m just gonna have to have Dickie give you a call some time! Don’t forget to ask him about the 3 legged dog and the boat!”
I was pretty sure that she was just building me up and stringing me along…
Tumblr media
...but she sent me an 8x10 of Dickie and a letter out of the blue.
She also warned me to ignore ex-guitarist Randy Holden. Dickie was and is BC, and no one else represents them. Got it!
THEN, one day at work, I had a call on my old flip phone and the number was a dazzling display of digits. I was like “Who and what the hell could this be?!?!” I answered it and the voice on the other line asked “Dean Miles?”
Uh… yeah! “This is Dickie Peterson of Blue Cheer!”
Tumblr media
Holy crap, it was him and I could tell just from his voice. I was stunned but played it cool as a cucumber. Man, if I told you we talked for over an hour and a half, you probably wouldn’t believe me. But we got on like a house on fire. He was so casual and just comfortable with me, that I just kinda did an interview. Of course, I had all sorts of questions outside of the t-shirt we were working on. I don’t really recall the story of the dog and the boat, but he did bring it up without my asking.
I feel okay talking about some of these things because he has passed and so has pretty much anyone he was talking about. He mentioned his addiction issues and how he regretted letting that waste a bunch of his time and money. He said Janis Joplin turned him onto the junk. They were all at practice and she wanted some alone time with her boyfriend Paul (BC drummer). The band had work to do so Dickie objected. She said “Shut up Dickie, and just try this.” He said that was the beginning of the end.
I’m not trying to dish dirt, or re write Rock & Roll history with any of this. Just to share my story. That’s all.
I asked him if he liked “Stoner Rock” and he replied that he was more of a blues guy. Which is totally true. I let him know that tons of bands out there worshipped at the Marshall altar of Blue Cheer. He seemed to like that.
Tumblr media
I just have bits of stuff that I remember because it flowed so effortlessly. He was a real cool cat. I picked up the phone at the shop and talked for a bit, closed up, drove home (talking still), got home, walked in and mouthed to Darcy
“IM ON THE PHONE WITH DICKIE PETERSON!!! and we continued to talk.
Tumblr media
By the end of our talk, he offered to put us up in Koln at their rehearsal spot. He gave me his phone number and address. I mean, Damn!!! Old School!!!
Tumblr media
One of the coolest things I wanted to impart on you from our phone call was the 1%er thing. I asked him about that and the “Biker” connection, and he proceeded to tell me this story…
Tumblr media
“You know, we were playing a gig way back in the day and it was a biker rally. Shit broke out and so did the guns. We dove under our truck that we brought all the gear in. Man, when the dust settled and we got back out from under there, we had holes and shit shot in our brand new amps. I was pissed and started to stomp around asking who was in charge here. Well, the biggest, baddest looking cat steps forward. I stood my ground and politely explained we had just bought the amps and we can’t work if we don’t have gear. He looks at me and says ‘How much do think they cost to replace?’ I gave him a figure and without hesitation he starts peeling hundreds off a money roll from his pocket. He says ‘Is that fair?’ I said ‘more than fair’. He just went back to hashing it out with the other club president that they had just gotten into it with. We loaded up and got the hell outta there. Let me tell you one thing though, a lot of people call those dudes outlaws and whatnot, but I’ll tell you the only people who stole from me were in 3-piece suits. Those outlaws were righteous when I needed them. The only OUTLAWS I know wear 3 piece suits.”
Tumblr media
WORD!!!
Another cool thing that happened with this was I shop at a local record store called Vinyl Resting Place. Toby, the owner, has a bulletin board up and at the top is an OLD Blue Cheer picture of them playing outside to like 20 people behind some apartments. I would always just stare at this picture and wonder about the scene that day.
Tumblr media
Well, the whole t-shirt thing was happening so I explained it to Toby and asked if I could borrow the picture for an hour. I wanted to go home, scan it and share it with the band. He had no problem with this. I sent it to Dickie and he couldn’t recall anything. He just remarked at the hair cuts and busted sticks on the ground. I was hoping they would get a kick out of it and circulate it on the site or something. No dice….
Fast forward to 2007 and BC is touring the States. I immediately start in on the promoter here in Portland and Rosalyn for a back up. My band at the time (Legend of Dutch Savage) has GOT to play this one. We actually secured an opening slot and couldn’t have been happier.
Tumblr media
The ads hit the paper and our name is there. It’s really happening. I can thank Dickie for the call and meet him in person. Maybe even secure the t-shirt for the tour?!?!
I knew I shouldn’t expect too much….
The shirt thing was a no-go because they already had that in the works. Rosalyn was in L.A. and could get them done dirt cheap.
Okay, cool… We still got the gig.
NOPE…. some friends had just started a band named Red Fang and they were invited to play the show. At first we all were on the show, but somewhere along the line Dutch Savage got bumped from the bill. Probably so it was just 2 openers.
Tumblr media
Hell of a bill…
Meanwhile, I was crushed. I have opened for tons of great bands but that’s about the only success I’ve enjoyed in my 35+ years as a working musician. Records, tours and the usual bull that a band goes through is all well & good, but when you get a slot playing on the same stage on the same night as your musical heroes, it just makes it all worth it.
I’ve played shows with Roky Erickson, Hawkwind, Dead Moon, Steel Pole Bath Tub, White Stripes and on & on.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was bummed beyond belief and just refused to deal with the whole night. I didn’t go to the show, didn’t go meet Dickie and didn’t drag my drums out on stage. I just sat home and moped. The scene was moving on, and no matter how tight we had it nailed for that show, we still got the shaft. No biggie. Dusted myself off and kept moving. Aint no cure…
Tumblr media
I don’t really have many regrets in life but not going down to Dante’s that night is one of them.
I should have gotten over my self-entitled ego and just went down there. I will never forgive myself for blowing off the opportunity to meet the guy who took time to call ME to chat and just be a cool dude. I’m sorry Dickie!!! I know you had to leave this earth not too long after this gig, but the music lives on my brother. Always has/Always will.
Like a true bluesman.
Tumblr media
FROM WIKIPEDIA:
On October 12, 2009, Peterson died in Germany after the development and spread of prostate cancer. After Peterson's death, longtime Blue Cheer guitarist Andrew MacDonald wrote on the group's website that "Blue Cheer is done. Out of respect for Dickie, Blue Cheer (will) never become a viable touring band again.". Under ten years later, in January 2019, drummer Paul Whaley died of heart failure.
