I took a deep breath as I made my way out of the women’s locker rooms at the public pool. It took every ounce of self confidence I had to put on this bikini, but…I had to try something. I’d been coming to the pool almost daily now with my best friend. Swimming was the best way to beat the heat during this sweltering summer we had been experiencing…but that wasn’t the only reason we had been coming.

“I saved you a spot here!” Misa, my friend called to me.

I smiled at her as I made my way over. “Did you make sure we have a good view?” I asked.

Misa grinned. “Oh most definitely.” She said, giggling. “Just sit down and take a look.”

I sat down on the lounge chair next to Misa and looked across the pool. The lifeguard stand was directly across from us. Currently the stand was filled by a young man with light brown hair, but we knew that he was due to go on break soon. “Oh, once he comes out, we’ll have the perfect view.” I said, grinning.

Misa giggled. “Definitely. Plus he should be walking right by here.”

“We’d better apply our sunscreen then.” I told MIsa.

Misa nodded. “Very true.”

We grabbed our bottles of sunscreen out and slowly began to apply it. Just as I was putting it on my legs, the doors to the guard house were coming open and the real reason we had been coming to the pool was walking out. Mister Tall Dark and Sexy, all broad shoulders, rippling muscles, and washboard abs. Not to mention a one hundred watt smile that was too charming for any woman to resist. The lifeguard known as Shingen.

He sauntered out, looking ever the picture of sex appeal. He smiled and nodded his head at everyone who greeted him as he past. He paused briefly in front of me and Misa. “Well, hello ladies. It’s good to see you again today.” He greeted, that smile the most charming thing I had ever seen, making my heart do flips in my chest.

Despite my racing heart, I smiled at him, hoping it would be as seductive as his own smile. “Good to see you as always Shingen.”

He smiled at me and opened his mouth to say something when the other lifeguard was calling out to him in an annoyed tone. “Shingen! Stop flirting and get over here! It’s my break time and you have duties to attend to!”

Shingen sighed. “I’ll be there in a moment. I can’t let beauty go unappreciated.” He was then turning back to me and Misa. “You ladies stay safe and I’ll see you at the next guard change.” He was then walking away, the eyes of every woman following him.

“Oh, I hate to see him go, but I love to watch him leave.” I murmured.

“I hear you.” Misa replied, fanning herself. “But did you notice he came over to talk to us? He didn’t stop at any of the other sunbathing ladies…and mentioned that we were beautiful. Though I am certain his eyes were on you.”

“It’s hard to tell with those sunglasses.” I replied. “I would only be so flattered.”

“Bet it’s that new bikini. I told you to go for it.” Misa replied. 

“He was probably just being nice.” I replied. “Though I won’t lie, I do enjoy the attention. It’s a nice confidence boost.”

“You know that bastard didn’t deserve you and everything he said was a lie.” Misa said, referring to my ex. “And I bet you that Shingen does fancy you.”

“In my dreams.” I replied. “My very..vivid and sexy dreams.”

Misa giggled. “Do those dreams include a rescue?”

“Sometimes.” I answered.

“Why not make those dreams a reality?” Misa asked, a mischievous grin on her face.

By this point we had finished applying our sunscreen and were both reclined back on the chairs, our sunglasses on, hiding the fact that we were ogling Shingen. “What do you mean?” I asked.

“Go in the deep end and pretend to drown…maybe you’ll even get lucky enough for a little mouth to mouth.” Misa answered with a giggle.

I felt my cheeks heating up. “I don’t think I could do that…”

“I could push you in if that would help.” Misa suggested. “Come on, you’ve been making googly eyes at him all summer and he’s been stopping to talk to you. Take some action.”

“Well…I mean he would be doing his job…” I replied.

I don’t know how I ended up agreeing to this, but the next thing I knew, Misa and I were walking to the snackbar. We picked a spot where it was especially slippery by the pool and Misa pushed me in, though made it look like an accident.

I let out a loud eek as I fell in the pool, closing my eyes and holding my breath to brace myself. I heard Misa letting out a convincing scream as I fell into the water. She was a good actress. It was a few moments later there was a splash in the pool and very soon, I felt two large arms wrapping around me and we were soon breaking the surface of the water.

I was being carried out of the pool and though I knew I needed to keep my eyes closed, there was no way I could. I cracked my eyes open just a bit and sure enough, I was being cradled against that broad chest belonging to Shingen.

“Are you alright?” He asked me, his voice so gentle and filled with concern.

Reflexively, I opened my eyes and looked up at him. His sunglasses were off now, revealing the most gorgeous gray eyes…the term bedroom eyes flitted through my mind as my breath caught. I nodded, unable to find my voice being this close to someone so sexy.

He smiled at me before turning to speak to someone else. “I’ll be taking her to the medical room in the back of the guard house to look her over.” He said.

“Oh, that would be best. Thank you.” Misa’s voice said, sounding so concerned even though we both knew I was fine.

Another lifeguard was coming out to keep watch as Shingen carried me to the medical unit in the back of the guard house. Once we were inside, he was sitting me down on an exam table they had. “You know, you didn’t have to put on that show just to get me alone. Though it was a good excuse.”

I looked up at him feigning innocence. “I have no idea what you’re talking about. It’s a bit slippery out there.”

Shingen chuckled as he came to sit down beside me on the exam table beside me. He lifted a hand to my wet hair, taking a strand between his fingers and toying with it as he leaned in close. “Are you trying to tell me you haven’t been trying to get my attention all summer? I know I’ve been trying to get yours.”

I felt my cheeks heating up. “Shingen…”

He leaned in, his face mere inches from mine. “I noticed your beauty the first time you walked out of the locker rooms. You are a beautiful woman and I would be lying if I were to say I hadn’t been hoping you would be in need of a rescue on my shift…though I was hoping to get to do mouth to mouth.”

“Well…you don’t need the rescue for that.” I found myself saying.

Shingen grinned at me and the next thing I knew his gorgeous lips were on mine. The kiss quickly deepened as his tongue teased my lips open and his arms wrapped around my waist, his large frame completely enveloping me in an instant.

My own arms wrapped around his neck and I found myself pressing my body close to his. With our swimwear, we were both already mostly skin to skin…and I felt hot all over. Our tongues twisted and tangled together, as I felt Shingen’s large hands moving over my curves and up my back before going to the string that held my bikini top on.

I gasped into the kiss as I felt him tug on the strings and my top was sliding off. We broke the kiss and Shingen gave me a sheepish look. “Forgive me…if you don’t want this…”

“I…I do.” I replied, breathless. “I…I am just surprised…and what if someone were to walk in?”

“I’ve locked the door.” Shingen replied, grinning at me.

“Well…it looks like you’ve thought of everything.” I replied. I was then throwing myself at him, pressing my lips to his. His arms were around me once more and he was pulling me into his lap.

I found myself becoming bold, my hands roaming over the defined muscles of his body as his own hands explored my dips and curves. His hands were so gentle and warm. I could feel the press of his erection through his trunks as it continued to grow stiffer beneath me.

Shingen broke the kiss to smile at me. “Don’t worry my angel, I intend to take care of you.” He said, sliding his trunks off. “I’ll have you thoroughly worshiped and pleased by the time we leave this room.”

The next thing I knew, he had positioned himself between my parted thighs and I soon felt him sliding into my wet entrance. 25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?

Actually, my first impression of him was rather a non-impression. Ikemen Sengoku was my first Otome game, and all those characters coming at me in the prologue was a bit of a sensory overload and no one really made a big impression. I'd decided to download the game based on an in-app ad I'd clicked during a puzzle game I'd been playing, and it was Masamune in the ad that had gotten me to download the game. Masamune then, was my first route, and Shingen is barely in that one. From Masamune's route, I intended to go to Kenshin, but I played Kenshin in a story event while I was reading Masamune, and his possessiveness there was a turn-off, so I picked Sasuke next. Then I did Sasuke's route and found Shingen an entertaining side character and he won me over then.

My impression now is that I adore him. Brains, emotional intelligence, a sly sense of humor, a sense of responsibility, and the fact that he treats his love interest like a Goddess... he's a Renaissance man, and I love that about him.

21. If you're a fic writer and have written for this character, what's your favorite thing to do when you're writing for this character? What's something you don't like?

Shingen is very smart, but he likes to hide that behind the flirting. It's fun to write him slyly flirting with, or even just joking with his scene partner, where you think the conversation is about one thing, and then he outsmarts everyone. One of my favorite fics I wrote with him, wasn't a romance at all - it was a one shot with him, Mitsuhide, and Motonari trying to scam each other out of the last bed at an inn in a storm (but in reality, all three were also spying on each other). When you put three of the sneakiest characters in one scene, it just increases the potential for smart mayhem. Of course... I also like writing scenes with him being sexy, because he likes to take his time.

Hm... I'm not a huge fan of writing angst (it's just difficult to hit that line between angst and maudlin), and his canon story is pretty tragic.

14. Assign a fashion aesthetic to this character.

Ok... we'll go with a modern AU for this, because I do already like his color scheme in game. We know that in game, Shingen is not only a very busy spymaster, but he also is a hobby woodcrafter. So he is going to want something that will be comfortable and allow for ease of movement. He's also very confident in his attractiveness and uses his charisma to distract people from the fact that he's information gathering, so he's not above showing off his body. But he'll do it in a comfortable way. A dark knit shirt that just barely clings to his chest muscles. Not tight, but when he moves, you can see the outline of his body. Jeans or cargo pants. Less tight here - this man moves around a lot and doesn't want his clothing to cut into him. And because he's always going to be interested in the history of warcraft, he's got a vintage leather bomber jacket - lined to keep him warm in cooler weather.

But also...ok, here is one. If he were stranded in a blizzard, and had to throw himself on the mercy of a family of poor farmers, he would be the best houseguest ever. He would not reveal his identity - he'd pretend to be a random traveler down on his luck. He would flirt with all the women in the household, from the elderly grannie to the six year old girl, and make all of them feel like a queen. He would chat with the men in the family and discover the state of that part of the country just from that part of the conversation. If they need repairs to the household, he would help out with carpentry. And he would eat two servings of dessert. Then weeks later, the family would discover a mysterious parcel of gifts for every member of the family.

5. What's the first song that comes to mind when you think about them?

"Where the Night Goes" by Josh Ritter.

I have no idea why this song makes me think of him. Less the lyrics and more just the vibe.

1. Why do you like or dislike this character?

Well, we've already covered the intelligence and the emotional maturity, and the fact that he treats the people around him really well. So lets go also with his ability to take responsibility, and put his needs aside from the greater good. Granted sometimes he takes it too! far! and is too self-sacrificing to the point of risking his health. But he believes that the good of the people outweigh his need for revenge, and he's able to put aside personal feelings in lieu of doing what is best for the country. In other routes where he has a major role, he's always the one in the background, helping MC and her chosen love interest get their happy ending - although again, sometimes he goes too far. He'll step in and offer advice before it's asked for... he doesn't often let his friends figure things out on their own, if he realizes what the solution is before they do.

IkeSen Thoughts Playlist (Nobunaga, Mitsuhide, Hideyoshi, Mitsunari, Masamune, Kenshin, Shingen, Kennyo)

So, I've been playing Ikemen Villains since its English release a week or so ago, and while I haven't finished a full route yet, I've been thinking about what I like and what I don't, so here, have an early review.

The tl;dr - I like it quite a bit, and am happy to keep playing. I don't like it quite as much as I like Sengoku, but I like it a lot more than I liked the other Ikemen games I've tried. I can recommend it to anyone who likes mobile game-type otomes with a darker tone.

The game setup: in an AU Victorian England, there's a team of men with questionable morals and fairy tale curses who work for the Queen to solve problems of even more awful moral implications. The main character is a letter carrier who accidentally witnesses their deeds and gets sucked into their world while they figure out if they can trust her not to spill their secrets.

What works for me:

The writing is top notch. It's light and fun when it needs to be, and hits the right combination of period melodrama and anachronistic modern that I enjoy in these kinds of games/stories.

The LIs are all very fun, and I'm looking forward to experiencing all of them. Even "wait, Motonari, what are you doing here, why are you alive like 300 years later and why did you change your name?" (I say this with all the love, I adore Motonari, but man I'm pretty sure they just recycled some cut dialogue from his IkeSen routes for Jude.)

I started with William's route, and I really enjoy the themes of "there's no reason to abstain from personal joy, you deserve to be your fullest self" that they're going for.

I also like the level of sensuality/sexuality they have going. If I'm playing one of these games, I want it to feel sexy!

I appreciate that they include content warnings for the darker content - one of the current event stories has a warning for potential dubcon content, which is nice. I don't mind reading the darker stuff, but I do like being prepared and being allowed to make a decision about when I want to read it.

I'm always a sucker for the fantasy Victorian aesthetic.

What works in comparison to the other Cybird games:

The chapter lengths are ... okay? One of the things that made me hard bounce off the other two Cybird games I've tried - Vampire and Prince - is that the chapters/segments felt REALLY short, in a way that felt like an over-the-top cash grab, in the "spend money to get a satisfying amount of story!" way. By contrast, the "5 tickets a day" amount I get from Sengoku feels like an acceptable amount of content - I don't know if IkeSen chapters are actually longer in terms of word count and scenes, but it feels that way, whether it's actual length or just quality of the writing/scene structure. In comparison, Villains chapters do feel shorter than Sengoku, but the content is presented in a way that feels generally satisfying to complete in the free daily tickets. I wish there was a bit more, but I'm okay with what they give overall.

The "oh no there's a time limit" plot contrivance is believable, in the context of the game and the genre. MC saw too much, they're giving her a month to prove herself trustworthy. That feels fair, with the genre conventions in mind. IkeSen's works well - Sasuke's "don't fall in love" warning is weirdly tacked on, but the actual time limit is the wormhole that would get MC home to the future, and the conflict is whether her connection to the LI/the characters in general will keep her in the past. I don't remember what Vamp's is, because I really bounced hard off of that game very early, but I remember that the Prince contrivance was the other major detail that made me ultimately abandon the game. What do you mean, the MC didn't read the whole contract she signed? All of this could be mostly solved if she'd paid attention? That just felt lazy on the part of the writers, and undermined the MC in a way that made me not want to follow her story. Anyway, I'm glad that Villains has one that makes sense and doesn't make the MC feel overly flighty.

The Villains art style is ... fine? Again, I don't like it as much as Sengoku, but it's comparable to/better than the other games I've tried from Cybird.

Some things I don't like:

I'm sure this is a tech issue, but GOD the loading screens in this game are SO SLOW. I can feel myself aging just watching the little lamp flash.

I know this has been a staple of the non-IkeSen Cybird games, but I really dislike the card system as it's integrated into the story mechanics. There's no benefit to the gacha. Oh look, it's .... a picture? There's no story involved, a la Tears of Themis, or anything other bonus content. I'd much rather stick with IkeSen's dress-up mechanic, at least dressing up avatars is a fun mini game. I am not tempted at all to spend real money to obtain so-so pictures that I can easily find on the internet if I really want them.

Ultimately, it's nice to have another otome that has grabbed my attention, and after playing a couple of the new event stories, I'm going to sit here and wait impatiently for Victor's route because I love him. But I'm certainly not going to be tempted to spend the kind of money I spent on IkeSen - which is good, I have a mortgage now, and I don't have the excuse of wallowing in my own grief + pandemic lack of leaving the house to excuse it, lol.

“Please tell me you're not planning an uprising,” you say as you open your office door and find Kicho brewing coffee from the coffee maker—comfortably like he owns the place.

A/N: Another installment in the college/university AU!

The walk back to your office is long and quiet, but the fresh memory of the meeting occupies your thoughts. The day is busy for a Thursday, with this emergency meeting pushing all your other appointments to a later date.

Really, why can't they put Professor Uesugi on a leash. The moment you read the email, your brows flew off your forehead because Professor Michel was also involved. Sure you know Uesugi to be an eccentric professor with a penchant for morbid troublemaking, but you never expected Michel to take the bloody bait. If it weren't for the pay, you'd have opted for a career change.

The office, when you enter, feels more hushed than usual, and you wonder whether the mood of the meeting transferred psychically to your department. Knowing this university, anything can happen.

Your secretary waves to catch your attention.

“Why does the office feel like a funeral?” you ask as you make your way towards her, your shoes clacking on the smooth, tiled floor.

She whispers frantically, “He's here, he's here!”

Ah. You know who she's talking about.

Kicho, the university president's executive secretary, is better known in the campus as an ambitious puppet master. Three years ago he left the College of Social Sciences to join President Yoshiaki's staff. Some say it had been because of a disagreement between him and the dean, but when you asked Nobunaga about it he just shrugged and said, “Kicho is free to do whatever he wants.”

Others speculate that Kicho planned on getting a VP position, and he needed to show Yoshiaki what he could do. Needless to say, the three years since his departure as a modern history professor has been ... well, colorful is a word to describe it. You and Kicho weren't closely acquainted during his professorship, but that changed when he began to invade the HR department weekly in an effort to topple Yoshiaki's tenure.

“Please tell me you're not planning an uprising,” you say as you open your office door and find Kicho brewing coffee from the coffee maker—comfortably like he owns the place.

He doesn't blink at your arrival, or your greeting; he's focused on the exact measurement of coffee in the mug with an I <3 COFFEE design (a silly gift from Professor Arthur in an attempt to get on your good graces).

“No comeback?” you go on. “Must be a good day.”

“I've vetoed four of his suggestions to build statues of him around the campus,” Kicho says, calmly, around his mug, “and he didn't blow a fuse. It is a good day.”

Also famous: his hatred of President Yoshiaki. There's a joke circulating in your department that Kicho is actually the president of the school, as it's he who ultimately makes executive decisions for everything. Miraculously, Yoshiaki continues to be none the wiser.

“Why he couldn't see who you really are, I will never know.”

“He's blinded with his power and his privilege,” Kicho comments as he settles himself on the couch next to your bookshelf. He takes one book out, folds his legs, and starts reading. You're left gaping at him and his audacity.

“Do you have the extra time to—to—lounge about like that?” you sputter, entertaining the idea of snatching the book out of his hands.

Kicho pauses and finally graces you a flat stare. “You're the only person in this institution who understands what I want.”

That's a lie, but also the truth. Kicho's never revealed what he truly wants; when you finally managed to corner him one time, three weeks into his being the executive secretary to Yoshiaki, and asked him about his motivations, Kicho only studied you and answered, “Watch me.” Ever since then he's been a staple figure in your work, complaining about his boss in a way that an employee of Cybird University shouldn't say in front of the director of human resources.

“Sure,” you say, suddenly wary. “But it's not like we can remove him at will.”

And then something changes.

Kicho lifts his head and looks at you, his gaze sharpened with something calculating that has you freezing in your place. Your heartbeat accelerates, and in your years in this institution you've developed a sixth sense for anything that spells out trouble (blame Professor Clavis for that). Kicho's posture screams trouble—and the only question is how dangerous, how hypertension-inducing it's going to be.

You gulp. “Kicho?”

Kicho hums. Takes another sip of coffee while never leaving your gaze.

“Like I said earlier—please don't tell me you're planning an uprising.”

“I'm not,” he says breezily.

A nervous laughter. “That's good, that's good! For a second there I thought you're going to stage a coup d'etat against Yoshiaki—”

“My plan has already been set in motion,” he interrupts, and he says it like he's talking about the weather. You feel like you've aged twenty years. “And I'm going to make you the new president.”

“I'm sorry—what?”

Endnotes:

Kicho has been planning to kick Yoshiaki out of his position since his infamous promotion. He just didn't execute it right away because he hasn't found the perfect candidate to replace him.

You and Nobunaga are drinking buddies, so you're comfortable addressing him by his first name -- a fact that didn't escape Kicho's notice.

Months into your promotion as the HR Director, Clavis blew up a parking lot for an experiment. Your first instinct is to fire him, but Dean Sariel told you that this is unfortunately a regular occurrence. You couldn't believe that because you never got news of anything like that before your promotion.

In those three years of Kicho being an executive secretary, he has told you that he'd been seriously thinking of rebelling against Yoshiaki a grand total of seventeen times. You gave him coffee each time he said that.

Professor Arthur deduced that you're a fellow coffee lover like him; hence, the mug. It's also a bribe because he was about to order an expensive espresso machine using the college budget.

LONGFIC INTEREST CHECK

So, there are several longfics that I have started working on. Talking about stories that are most likely gonna reach light novel lenght. And I like each idea equally. However, I think I need to focus on one at a time. Otherwise I might get nowhere. So, I would like to ask you guys what you would be most interested in. Here's a description of each.

Lady of the Takeda (Ikemen Sengoku)

Set after the end of Shingen's route and is set in the I-perspective of either an OC or reader. Just because there's peace between the Takeda and Oda doesn't mean that nothing's gonna happen. And being THE lady of a clan like the Takeda brings its very own trials with it.

Rose of the East (Saint Seiya x Sailor Moon crossover)

This one is set in medieval Japan, shortly before the country shut its borders to the rest of the world. Albafica is a Swede who by circumstances gets stranded there. However, he meets Makoto Kino, and love blossoms between them. However, Japan's anti-foreigner stance at that time doesn't make it exactly easy for them.

Inkmaster (Naruto modern AU)

Ino stumbles into Sai's tattoo shop one day, determined to get one. However, she found more than only a tattoo. And there is more to the pale tattooist than meets the eye.

Angel of Winter (Bleach angel AU)

I have already written over 10 chapters for this. My plan now is to do a quick overhaul, include what I forgot to include and then to repost it and also finally finish it. It is a HitsuKarin story set in an angel AU, where the characters are angels/nephilim instead of Shinigami.

I will keep working on other fics too, but with these big ones, it might be a good idea to focus on one. So here's a poll to see what you guys would be most eager to read. n.n They can be found on my AO3 account. If necessary, just ask for the link and I will send it to you. Alpha Reader(s) Wanted!

I’m looking for an Alpha Reader(s) to help me out with two stories in my Ikemen Sengoku: Iron Chef Sengoku universe. Please feel free to reblog if you think your followers might be interested.

Fandom: Ikemen Sengoku, modern AU fusion with Iron Chef - fandom-blind readers are welcome, see General notes

What do I need? I am looking for feedback on plot points, story structure, and general cheerleading to get me going again. Especially appreciated would be anyone open to voice chats on discord or other platforms to talk through things in real time - I benefit greatly from Rubber duck debugging and it’s even better if the rubber duck talks back.

I’ve never worked with alphas or betas before, so this might involve a bit of a learning curve for me. I work in google drive and will share a commenters-access document with you.

I appreciate frank feedback. As long as you’re not deliberately mean, and you’re willing to explain your negative feedback to me, I’m pretty thick-skinned. Even if your feedback upsets me, I promise to take notes and sit with it until the upset passes so I can take it objectively.

That said, the Shingen/OFC story I need help with is coming from a pretty personal place, emotionally, and I might be more married to some aspects of it than I realise.

I absolutely plan to credit my alpha/beta readers publicly unless requested otherwise. 

Timelines: I don’t really have a set timeline for finishing either fic aside from being frustrated with my current lack of progress. I’m not committed to a posting schedule, but would prefer being able to talk with my reader(s) at least once every week or two for a couple of hours.

General notes: Because this is an alternate universe to the original canon, no in-depth knowledge of the Ikemen Sengoku universe is required. If you are coming in fandom-blind, I can easily provide you a context summary and a chart of the canon characters’ relationships as I’ve translated them to this universe. 

The canon characters are intended to be consistent with their in-game portrayals (with appropriate updates to a modern setting). The only exception is Kenshin, who is a cis woman in this universe (cis man in canon), with the same yandere personality (she is only a supporting character in these two stories, so that aspect will probably not come up much).

I don’t believe either of these stories contain any triggering elements - the Shingen/OFC story does contain a blind date with a throw-away character who gets physically aggressive, but the POV character is rescued before any harm is done. The Masamune/MC story contains a lot of dirty jokes and innuendo, plus allusions to the characters’ implied sex lives, but no on-screen sex or graphic violence is planned. There are no non/dub-con elements in the main relationships.

If you’re interested in alpha reading the Shingen/OFC story, I specifically recommend reviewing Oncoming Storm (explicit first-time virgin smut), or Advanced Entomology (explicit smutty smut with some dark psychology). 

ICS Season 1

I put the first chapter up on AO3 about three years ago, wrote two more chapters, and then got sucked into real life things and didn’t touch it again until a month ago. I’m still very excited about the story and have been re-plotting and outlining, but I’m having trouble with the actual writing part.

Rating: General/Teen audiences

Genre: Heterosexual Romance, cooking competitions

Summary: Date Masamune owns a restaurant in Tokyo and is invited by his former mentor and investor, Oda Nobunaga, to join a revival of Iron Chef as Iron Chef Japan. Masamune reluctantly agrees after seeing the audition tape of Mizusaki Mai, a baker and line cook who works to integrate and publicise Ainu culture in her cooking. He is attracted to Mai, but hesitates to act because of his own emotional history and their positions as rivals on the show. Complicating the issue is the other competitor, Mouri Motonari, who has his own attraction to Mai.

Length: My finished chapters are clocking in around 25 pages right now (8-9K words). This was originally planned as a 9 chapter story, but may end up giving or taking a chapter. Currently chapter 1 and 2 are written, chapter 3 is progress. The chapter posted on AO3 will probably be altered when the work is completed.

What do I need? Bonus points for anyone with big thoughts and lived experience in minority cultures, as Mai is half-Ainu in this continuity. I am fully open to being told my representation is inappropriate or insensitive and updating it to do better. Also you should probably enjoy cooking shows, since at least a third of this story involves me blathering on about food.

Iron Chef Sengoku Season 1 Untitled side story - Shingen/Original Female Character

This is a side story taking place in the same universe as the above, but not related to that plot. I've kind of gotten stuck up my own ass with overthinking and desperately need some tough love/encouragement

Rating: Explicit - heterosexual sexual activity in the climax (heh) of the story. Smutty, but vanilla. 

Genre: Heterosexual Romance

Summary: Akiyama Maki, a divorced mother of one, is getting back into the dating scene at the urging of her best friend Sumire. It’s not going great. Dating with a small daughter is hard, and Maki’s insecurities from the breakup of her marriage (and the general crappiness of dating) is making it harder. But her best friend’s friend Takeda Shingen is just so supportive, and nice . . . 

Length: Currently about 5K words, I suspect the finished work will be somewhere between 10-15K. 

What do I need? Bonus points for anyone with female experiences of divorce, pregnancy, and body/sexual insecurity; this OFC and story grew out of some of my own ambivalence about and after giving birth. The themes of this story are very personal to me.

Canonically Barok is racist against Japanese people due to the death of his older brother. I find this to be a poor reason for it. So I'm alter this portion of his character to instead be more of a "He sees his brother killer" or rather their traits in the Japanese men he meets until the second game's end where he over comes this as the truth is revealed. Other Verses may vary and completely change his backstory and will be noted as such.

In canon Enoch is shown to be something of a hypocrite as he acts to avenge his hopes and dreams being crushed but has no guilt over crushing someone elses in pursuit of that revenge. My version will be more bitter by his lost dreams and see his efforts keeping others from being dreamers so they don't go through what he did rather than blatant hypocrisy.

Like with Barok, verse my alter or completely change his backstory and will be noted accordingly as separate verses.

Okay so combining votes from both polls I put up (one here, one on a diff app), and if my math is correct, 6 votes went to Genshin Impact while 14 went to Ikemen Sengoku.

I dont know why Im surprised. I kinda forgot the majority of my account centers around Ikemen Sengoku so of course that won. However, I kinda realized that my current modern au idea doesn't really work for Ikesen. So I'll use that one for a Genshin interactive. BUT! I do have another idea that can work as an interactive Ikesen fic, it just wont be a modern au. I wont have to change much, just put it back into the 16th century and come up with plot points.

I apologize for this sudden change of plan, but I'll try to get these two fics to follow the same schedule and keep them around the same chapter length. I still do plan on updating my masterlist tho :)

Title: Meeting the Mogul

Ikesen Modern Day AU

A/N: This is my first fic, so please don't expect it to be perfect. I also don't own Ikesen Nobunaga and the other characters except my OC. Cybird owns them.

This is inspired by the artwork I commissioned from @shrimpalompa 💕

With her eyebrows furrowed, Mia allowed her feet to drag along the length of Manhattan's busy streets. Despite the crowd of busy professionals hurrying to buy their lunches from the food trucks lined up along 50th Street, and the incessant honking of cars and taxis stuck in traffic, all she could think of is how badly she messed up her last interview.

The delightful scent of sauteed garlic and onions wafting in the air made her stomach growl slightly louder than usual. There was nothing she wanted more at that moment than to eat a nice gyro sandwich at Lil Zeus Food Truck, but with only fifty dollars to tide her over until she finds a job, she took a deep breath, turned away from the food truck, and continued to walk. She took one step after another, until the concrete pavement was replaced by a patch of green, and the sound of car horns was replaced by the catchy melody of a marching band practicing nearby.

Central Park was beautiful at this time of day - mostly because the afternoon crowd and the throngs of tourists don't frequent the place at this hour.

She sat on the grass, defeated. She had one shot at getting employed as a clerk in the prestigious firm, and she totally screwed her interview. "Seriously, who asks about the President's background during the interview anyway? " she wondered out loud still feeling bitter about her failure at the hands of Azuchi Inc's, Vice President of Human Resources, Hideyoshi Toyotomi. She sighed again, took out her mobile and typed in the keywords 'Nobunaga Oda, Azuchi Inc'. Pages upon pages of news articles about the President and CEO appeared on her screen, much to her surprise. As her finger hovered over one of the articles, she silently cursed herself for not having thought of doing this yesterday before she finally gave in and pored over the details on the mysterious mogul.

He watched her as she sat on the grass with her back turned to him.  He winced at the last thought; then again, she didn't seem like the type who'd pick out her dates online.From where he stood, it appeared like she was playing a game on her phone or browsing one of those social media sites his employees are so fond of... Or maybe checking out a dating site. Though she didn’t seem like the type to rely on other sources to help her find a date. His thoughts drifted to their first encounter yesterday, and he smirked.

In an attempt to avoid the possibility of listening to his Vice President of Human Resources' complaints about his decision to ride his bike to work, he opted to enter the building through the ever-busy and usually crowded Talent Management Hub. Donned in a black button-down shirt, which he wore untucked with a pair of dark denim jeans, he handed his helmet to the seemingly dumbstruck guard and made his way to the exit leading to the main lobby. Just as he was about to step into the main lobby, he felt someone grip his wrist tightly.

"Excuse me, where do you think you're going?"

He turned and saw a girl - not more than twenty-four if he had to guess - looking sternly at him while she gripped his wrist tightly.

He heard collective gasps around them, but she didn't seem to have noticed. From the corner of his eye, he saw one of the managers make his way towards them, but he stopped him before he could get any closer. The clock on the wall read 9:25 am, so he had a good five minutes before his weekly meeting with Marketing, but the girl holding on to him intrigued him so much, he didn't mind canceling. Just what was she trying to get at by stopping him, he wondered.

"Didn't you just arrive, Sir? You don't have an ID, so you must be an applicant, too," she said gently, as she tugged him to follow her to the waiting area. Still confused, he glanced at the other people who were quietly seated, trying to avoid his gaze. "It's unprofessional to cut the line, you know. Let's wait for our turn here."

He chuckled at the realization that she didn't know who he was. He decided to humor her by sitting beside her, but it didn't take long until she was called for her initial screening. It was at that moment that he decided they needed to hire her. However, when Hideyoshi dished out his infamous rapid-fire "Oda Fast Facts" on her, there was no doubt she wasn't going to be signing a contract with them.  The dashing dark-haired mogul frowned as he recalled the report he was given on the status of her application. He recognized potential when he sees one, and knew they had just let this one slip away. He left word that he was having lunch elsewhere, and took off with his Vice President of Operations following closely at his heel.

"You know what you should do next? You should buy that Lil’ Zeus food truck. Have you seen the line? It felt like ages before I got us some of these!" A familiar voice brought him out of his thoughts and he glanced sideways to see that his executive had just arrived carrying a gyro on each hand. "It's about time you got here. What was the matter, couldn't charm the ladies to get ahead? You must be losing your touch, Mitsuhide, " he teased.

The silver-haired executive smirked as he handed one of the gyros to his boss. "I'll have you know I snaked my way to the front of the line in less than 2 minutes. The cook ran out of oregano and they had to get a fresh batch." He paused for a second or two to take in the scenery before him. "So is there a reason you wanted to have lunch here?"

"No reason, " the dark-haired debonaire responded, his carnelian colored eyes sparkling with mischief as he stared at the girl whose back was turned at them once again. "I see, " Mitsuhide said, thrusting the other gyro at him. "Good luck, boss. I'll see you at the office." He flashed the young executive a dazzling smile before he turned and made his way towards the unassuming girl.

"That's funny, he has no pictures, " she mentioned, after opening yet another news article about the mysterious Nobunaga Oda - the sixth since she started - and there still wasn't any photos of the man in question.  

"Usually that’s the case when the person's not very good looking."

Startled at the sound of his voice, she jumped and turned around. Standing a few feet away from her was the man she met in the interview. Though she still didn't know his name considering she never asked in the interview, and he never introduced himself. Today, he was wearing a white button-down shirt, which was still untucked and a pair of khaki trousers. She never noticed how attractive he was until today - more like a model, with his tall and well-toned physique, which was evident in the cut of his clothes.  

"It's you, " she said. 

"Yeah. Me, " he replied. "Had lunch?"

"Yes, " she nodded, but her stomach wasn't having it. Her face flushed red as soon as her stomach growled. 

He snickered. "You know, I happen to have an extra gyro."

"Do you always happen to carry a spare gyro around?"

Her retort made him laugh, as he really didn't see that coming. "Did anyone ever tell you that you're hilarious, " he asked. He plopped down beside her in the grass and handed her one of the gyros. "And to answer your question, I carry them around in case I get lucky and see a pretty girl who is in desperate need of lunch." 

"My hero, " she smiled. "Thank you for this. I'm Mia, by the way. And you?"

He shrugged, ignoring the fact that she had introduced herself. "So, what were you doing on your phone, looking for a date or something?"

"Of course not, " she said, as she munched on her sandwich. "I was curious to see what Nobunaga Oda looks like."

"Why would you want to know how he looks?" 

She took out her phone with one hand and showed him the search results. "See these? I've read six articles about him, and not one of them contained any pictures of him. Isn't that strange?"

He scanned the titles and frowned. "Maybe he doesn't want his picture taken." 

"Why though? I think he's amazing. I mean, he's not even from here, yet he made a name for himself and he's been helping boost Japan's economy even from offshore. He's made a name for himself in a place where people least expected him to. His achievements are known all over Japan, and that's why I wanted so badly to come to New York and work at Azuchi Inc."

He cocked an eyebrow at her passionate response. It sure wasn't the first time he's heard people sing praises about him and his organization, but it felt different hearing it from someone who had nothing to gain from sharing this with him because she absolutely had no idea who he was. 

"Speaking of which, whatever happened to your application?" It was her turn to ask. For a moment, he almost forgot that she thought he was an applicant, too. She cleared her throat. "What's the matter? You know you don't have to be embarrassed if you didn't make it. I mean, I didn't -"

"Why did you fail?"

She frowned. That was twice he ignored her questions, yet he had the gall to ask her such a rude question. What kind of person is he exactly, she silently wondered. 

"If you're done trying to assess whether I'm trustworthy or not, would you mind answering my question?"

Rude. This man was just plain rude, she concluded. "Why do I need to answer that?"

"Because I gave you a sandwich, " he said, as he lay carelessly on the grass with his hands behind his head.. "And because you look like you're going to tell me anyway."

She sighed. Well, he wasn't wrong, she thought. "I suppose it was it because I didn't know a thing about the President and CEO of Azuchi, Inc, " she said, hanging her head low. "Except for his name, I didn't know where he came from, what his philosophy was, his advocacy, why he prefers to drink tea from Japan…"

"Don't you think that information is useless?"

"I used to. I'm not gonna lie that I felt really bad after the interview with Mr. Toyotomi. I felt bad because I thought those questions he asked me were ridiculous, " she said, as she tucked a lock of hair behind her ear. "But I realized something while I was reading through the articles about Nobunaga Oda. I now understand that Mr. Toyotomi only wanted to make sure I knew and understood Mr. Oda's vision because it is only when you understand that you can actually contribute to that vision by working hard. I didn't really know that this morning, but now, I'd do anything to get another shot at that interview."

His eyes never left hers as she spoke, and with each topic, he found himself more and more entranced by her - perhaps it was the way her face lit up and her hands moved as she spoke about the things she was passionate about, or her wistful smile as she stared at the lake in between topics. He was captivated, so much so that he hadn't noticed that time has gone by until he felt his phone vibrate. 

Frowning, he took out the sleek gadget from his pocket and was briefly surprised. It was 3:00 pm - way past his supposed lunch break. Hideyoshi would have a fit, he silently thought, smirking. 

Sighing, he sat up and brushed the dirt off the back of his shirt. "As much as I'd like to stay and talk some more -"

"You have to go, " she said, cutting him off. She watched him quietly as he straightened his clothes up and ran his hand through his messy black hair. She had never been so drawn to a person before, but there was something about him that spoke to her - maybe it was the way he listened to her like what she was saying was important or the way he challenged her opinion every now and then… or even the way she saw her reflection in his eyes when he smiled. 

The light clapping sound that resonated in the air as he dusted off his clothes faded, and she suddenly felt her heart grow heavy - like all three weeks worth of homesickness had finally kicked in. 

"You look like you're gonna cry, " he teased, as he stood and offered his hand out to her. "Are you gonna miss me?"

"Am not, " she replied while he pulled her to her feet. "But did I get you in trouble?"

"I'm late for a meeting. Nothing I can't handle, " he winked. "I'm just gonna tell them that I met an interesting girl in Central Park."

"You make me sound weird."

He snickered. "Okay. How about I say a cute girl held me hostage?"

"They're not gonna believe you, " she replied, her face turning slightly red. 

"Here, " he said, handing his phone over to her. "Let's take a picture, in case they require proof."

"And make me the laughing stock of your team, "she retorted but allowed him to take a picture anyway.

"They wouldn't dare laugh, " he assured her as he checked their picture and smiled. "This is a good picture."

"Yes, it is." She peered at his handsome face in the picture and smiled.

"I don't like having my picture taken because I always seem to look strange, but I like this one, " he smiled back. "Well then…"

"Yeah, I guess this is goodbye."

"I'll see you tomorrow at 8."

"What? Here?"

He laughed, and the rich sound tickling her ear. "At my office, silly. Tell Mr. Toyotomi I sent you there. He'll be able to give you an orientation, " he said casually and then turned to leave. 

"Mr. Toyotomi - as in the guy from Azuchi, Inc? I'm confused… Whom should I say sent me, " she called out as he started to walk. 

"Oh. Tell him I sent you, " he turned to face her once again and exaggerated a bow. "Nobunaga Oda. I never told you before, but it's a pleasure to meet you, Mia. I'll see you bright and early tomorrow."

Her heart pounded loudly in her chest as she watched him disappear in the distance, she almost failed to notice a new text message that read: 

'We are pleased to offer you the role of Assistant to the CEO. Please report to Mr. Hideyoshi Toyotomi's office at the 41st floor of Azuchi, Inc tomorrow at 8:00 am sharp. - Mitsunari Ichida, Director of Talent Management.'
