I really dont think not-caleb ever had the intention of knocking mc up. Whether or not he was even aware that his program could harbor, ahem, his real counterpart’s babymaking material™️ is a question in and of itself. He definitely knows about the dark truth of his creation, and he is impressively self aware… however, his programmer really pushed the limit when it comes to realism; so i think not-caleb is for sure surprised at her pregnancy. He’s just as pleased as real caleb- albeit for different reasons…

Not-caleb actually takes on a slightly more familial mindset towards it— while his counterpart is just more delighted over the possessive rights it gives him over mc.

As mc slowly unravels the disturbing subtext of the past handful of months she’d spent grieving over her gege’s ‘passing’, not-caleb learns a bit more, as well. That naturally brings on more of a protectiveness- because even the robot can sense the depravity weaved beneath it all LOL. (which he shares, of course, but his base vanilla programming kind of pushes against it- which brings out a more mellow, moral caleb (similar to the one mc knew when growing up 🥲💔))

If not-caleb gets his family with mc- then yes, his own possessive traits would have an uptick. It’s deadass dog vs dog when it comes to the two— because when they fight over her, they’re quite literally fighting over what they perceive as their whole entire world (doubly, considering she’s pregnant with their?/his? veritable child).

Someone on ao3 (shoutout to them if they see this!!🫰) said that not-caleb would find a way to rip out the cameras installed in him- and i stand by this as well. 👀 Anything to track locations, monitor mc, or secretly spy on her through his metal chassis is being removed immediately, or, the attempt is at least made.

…Maybe not-caleb would try to take mc somewhere. Maybe it’d somehow succeed. Maybe it wouldn’t: maybe his manmade technology would prove to be just that— limited— and the elements or something else would thwart his mission.

Then, maybe real-Caleb would win.

You knew your dad loved you. He only wanted the best for you, and to him it was never enough. He always kept you financially supported, even though you didn't ask.

Your father ran a robotics company, the leading one on your country. His company was never second best; however he never let fame get to his head. He always had your best intrests in mind.

You weren't famous, and you never wanted to be. Running your cute, little library café was enough for you. It was always so peaceful. So blissfully soft, and warm. It was in just the right spot. People would flow in. People would flow out.

Like clockwork.

Your co-workers, and employees were your friends. They always listened, they showed up on time. You have always loved your life. You never were able to comprehend sadness. How could you?

You were always content. Nothing could go wrong right?

He died peacefully. Nothing painful, the doctors were baffled. No signs of struggle, or strain were present. They couldn't find any reason for his death.

This was the first time you'd experienced true sadness, and it hit you like a freight train.

You felt like you were being flung around. Through the wind she blew, and then she would land back down again. That, was the only way you could describe the feeling. Next to emptiness. Somehow, you couldn't bring yourself to cry. He would've turned in his grave knowing you were crying.

You missed his hugs, and crappy dad jokes. You missed the random cup of coffee sitting on your counter when you got home, all because he had a spare key. You missed him as a whole.

You decided to take a break from work, it was all to much right now. Thinking about your father now had just gotten you used to reminising. You sat in your window seat, looking down your driveway, that was encaved by trees. Staring at the rain, as it dripped down your window you felt peace. For the first time in about a week you were able to sleep.

When you woke the storm outside was raging, it was nighttime. The bolts of lightning that cascaded down lit up the voided night, like a second day. The rain that had started as a slow peacefull kind was now destructive. Threatening to destroy the Midnight roses your father planted for you.

After a particularly large flash had light seeping in your window you saw a silhouette.

Large, and Rectangular.

A box!

You hadn't ordered anything so this was unusual. Walking over to your door, and trying to navigate through the dark using only your hands proved difficult. It set you on edge, but you were always brave. You were brave for him.

Reaching for the doorknob, you gently unlocked it. The box on the porch dwarfed you in size. Your heart stopped, maybe this wasn't a good idea. Alarms blasted in your head,

Suffice it to say, you would've thought it was a corpse; had it not been for the glasses that went into metal slots by his ears, and the engines on his legs.

"Who knew dad made ones that looked so real.."

Awe filled your voice. It was a beautiful model.

The droid had a metal bracelet, with the name, 'Iida' engraved on it.

"Iida?"

"YES MASTER!"

"HOLY FUCK NUGGETS!" You were shooketh, 'THIS BITCH IS VOICE ACTIVATED?' That's wack.

"I APOLOGISE FOR FRIGHTENING YOU MASTER, YOU SEE YOUR FATHER MADE ME TO PROTECT YOU. I AM TENYA. I HAVE COME TO SERVE YOU IN PLACE OF YOUR FATHER."

Oh dear god, mans was loud. He also sounded like your favourite voice actor, but that was beside the point. You needed to find a volume button now.

○Two hours later○

"What do you mean you want to,... send me back?"

"Look Tenya," You said with a sigh, "Ive been having a hard time as of late an-"

"Yes master, however if I may interject for a moment? I was made for you specifically. I am not the company's." He explained it as if he was explaining it to a child.

"Okay... Ill consider it."

"What is, it? Master." He raised a brow, soft hydraulics were heard from inside him.

"I'll let you stay if you promise to help with chores, and whatn-"

"YES MASTER!"

Living with Tenya wasn't easy.

"Iida take a break."

"Iida, I dont need more food. Please stop feeding me."

"IIDA FOR GODS SAKE STOP CLEANING, IT SMELLS LIKE A THERAPISTS OFFICE IN HERE!"

And every time he'd respond with a blunt,

"No mamm, I'm afraid I cant do that."

"No mamm, it is my duty. Please eat now.

"MAMM I CANNOT STOP CLEANING, IVE TOLD YOU! PLEASE RELAX!"

It was, tense.

Iida, was difficult. However he was also resourceful. Wanted to know the weather? Todays, tomorrows, and next years baby. Need someone to theorise with? Iidas your man, resourses, and fact checks.

Want someone to cuddle with?

Yeah no, he refuses to do that.

"You're too precious, Im afraid Im not allowed!"

"Iida, I need affection."

"I'll call Shinsou."

You sigh.

"Cool, he's better than you anyway." You say pouting.

He said nothing. Then.

'OOH!' Iida thought suddenly. 'That actually feels nice. What? No Iida, Bad Iida! You cant think that way about heeeeeerrrr...'

He stopped. His mind jumbling.

You were asleep. A purring sound lightly emmiting from your body. A small sleepy smile on your face.

Iidas lit up like a bonfire. He smiled dopily, a clinking, of gears, and a soft thrum in his chest resonated.

'Relaxing.cuddiling. I could get used to this!'

in flashback land, we see tyrest immediately launch into a crazy person spiel about how he can and will edit the law as he sees fit to conform to the situation, because that doesn't seem like a blatant abuse of power or a huge conflict of interest or anything

oof, poor magnus. its gotta be rough to hear your boss rant about how bad at your job you are....especially bc this is right after overlord called magnus a joke and nearly killed him

its especially brutal bc as magnus says, his job is his life 

augh, I love the panel where the armor is falling off around minimus, and then the one where he’s holding the ultra magnus head...poetic 

its fascinating that there was an ‘original’ magnus who was an actual guy, and then tyrest chose to make him into this legacy symbol - I'm assuming the OG magnus had no say in this, and probably didn't even know that he was gonna become this lawman legacy figure

I do wanna know though - obviously everyone thought that ultra magnus was one dude, but how did the different guys wearing the armor deal w/that? like, did minimus have people coming up to him like ‘hey ultra magnus old buddy! remember when we fought those guys in that one place? good times!’ like, do they have to study up on the lives of the past armor wearers to prepare for the role of ultra magnus?

augh poor minimus, of course he’s been wondering about what happened with overlord after he was KO’d

oof, drift...I feel like minimus looks surprised and a little skeptical at the idea that drift was the one behind the entire overlord thing - which is interesting bc as we saw at the beginning of the story, he doesn't exactly trust drift, but it’s still pretty far-fetched that one person orchestrated the entire thing

it also puts a much-needed limit on things - as in, there IS a limit to how much weight/mass a normal cybertronian frame can carry, which is why you don't see everybody upgrading to be Massive - bc they actually CANT

oof, the worst part is that tyrest is RIGHT, minimus essentially DID have a nervous breakdown after the war ended bc of the rigid way he views the world

mental health support is clearly in shambles for cybertronians, yikes. they literally have 1 therapist for their entire race, and he’s not even licensed anymore due to hipaa violations. what a mess

the ‘attention deflectors’ thing is so cool and clever and also a great explanation as to why ratchet or anyone else never said ‘hey wait a minute, you're actually a much smaller dude in a trench coat’

the idea that they used the matrix - which is portrayed as kind of a holy object - in reproductive experiments is really interesting

AUGHHHHH this is all so good and interesting...im really fascinated w/this particular brand of like, alien robot racism/constructism/whatever you wanna call it - I feel like it does such a good job as a plot device, where many other ‘fantasy racism’ concepts from other franchises fail, bc there's not really a ‘human metaphor’ being used here (as far as I know/can tell) - as in, this isn't a thinly veiled metaphor for something that happened/could happen in human history

in fact, this type of bigotry (or w/e you wanna call it) isn't something that is even really possible in humans - I guess if there was a stigma against being born via ivf or something...? but there isn't, so there's no obvious real-world equivalent, which I take as a sign of good writing and worldbuilding - it makes the cybertronians feel more Real, bc of course they would have their own types of bigotry based off of completely different things than humans 

additionally - and this is crucial - tyrest is wrong: there’s no like, inherent moral corruption in cold constructed bots. there's no difference at all, other than method of construction. fantasy racism plotlines often flounder here, with the oppressors having a ‘valid reason’ for oppressing the oppressed, but tyrest is just operated on religious zealot bs and some biased science

like, dude, did you ever think that maybe there are other reasons why your trials only condemned cold constructed bots? like, maybe the trial itself was biased? or societal conditions were to blame? correlation is not causation, my dude, especially when the conclusion is ‘cold constructed bots are inherently SINNERS’ lmao 

like, tyrest rlly said ‘FUCK separation of church and state,’ huh

anyways I just think the whole cold construction vs forged thing is really interesting and well-done, and serves as a good precursor to the more fleshed-out functionism stuff we see later

Humans are weird: trust

So this is different from my usual humans are weird stories but after seeing a post about a person teaching a robot trust that kinda got me thinking... this was the result lol)

In recent years humanity has come upon a previously shunned alien race. Though they are not of blood and bone like the others that humans have run into. They were of metal and wires, how they were created were unknown. The Syncrons, or simply Syns seem eerily similar to biological life both in design and programing. Special modules within their bodies allow them to emulate emotion to a varied degree, only thing is though whoever created them left behind no way for them to reproduce. Searching the galaxy for their old masters and acquiring knowledge henceforth has become their top priority. One such syn is named (or designated) IOTA-TAU-2639 or colloquially named IOTA by the rest of the crew. He was meeting with the captain of the ship after his assignment to oversee research and continued production of his kind through specialized factories.

“It’s amazing…” Captain Richard Shaw says as he overlooked the assembly. He was a young captain, probably barely in his late 20s, he never thought he would set his eyes on something such as this. A technophiles dream to put together robots that actually seemed… alive. There of course are advanced drones and combat units within the empire’s military but nothing on such an unprecedented scale. Iota saw this and chose to remark on his astonishment “I suppose it is impressive how you humans are so quick to work with ones such as us. Building us, learning our blueprints such as that” They were both standing in his quarters overlooking the engineering deck, while the ship itself is technically a military ship, it still specializes in R&D specifically on a mechanical scale.

“It’s not just that Iota… we seem lucky to run into your kind. An entirely robotic race that act and think on their own, created by some bigone empire that you barely remember. Hell the mere fact that you are able to show emotion is amazing in and of itself.”

“Well… I wouldn’t say we necessarily show emotion captain” The synthesized voice sounded off… distraught

“What do you mean?”

“I find myself marvelling at you organics sometimes. Able to show such a wide range of emotions, making decisions on it and such but all we can ever do is copy it. I personally have heard of stories about well humans specifically gaining exponential amounts of strength from anger, or worry. Things such as that but my programming to show emotion even now is just that… emotion… something to put organics at ease but even then the rest of the galaxy shuns us because we are cold and logical… hell even such things as body language is programmed in for communication’s sake. How we would love to show such things as love, and happiness… and sorrow… regret, and pain an-” Richard put up his hand to interrupt him “im going to have to stop you right there… those… last three are not something people usually enjoy feeling…”

“Well… why not? Does it not feel… warm and alive to be able to feel such things?”

“No… not at all. Sorrow, loss of trust, and just general sadness is something humans and by extension other biologicals tend to stay away from... “ he says looking around the deck “curious…” Iota mutters “could you possibly give me an example for me to log?”

“... well you know how from the blueprints you gave us we started prototyping more of your kind… programming them with your help and teaching them such things as following commands you know stuff like that?”

“Of course captain…”

“Well one such test to gauge their understanding is putting them on a platform perhaps… and tell them to walk forward… of course at first they would disagree telling them they would otherwise fall off but the programmer and assistant assures the unit that they would be caught… building trust. And of course we catch them”

“Which is of course what you should do yes?”

“Well… what if I told you metaphorically speaking that… there are some people that would not catch you” a low whirring noise could be heard from Iota’s chassis as he looked over at the captain, the LED “eye” lens in the center of his faceplate making a squinting motion as he thought “That would be a logical fallacy… why would you let someone fall even when told you would catch them without any hindrance?”

“That is something we humans call a lie… say you will do one thing when you are really going to do something else… mostly the opposite. I have read up on syncrons before. They do not lie because it is against their programming. But humans do not follow they same way of thinking.”

“So… these… lies… speaking again metaphorically why would someone let me fall…”

“You said it yourself… your kind have been shunned by the rest of the galaxy for centuries. Such lies could be done out of hate, jealousy, things like that. Using it to trick your programming and then… let you fall. Some people even… are just evil…” another noise could be heard from Iota, this time though almost seeming sad or depressed though Richard cannot determine whether this was genuine emotion or just… part of his programming… “Captain” Iota said finally speaking up…”you should tell me more of this trust sometime. It would be interesting for the archive.”

“Of course Iota” he says moving to leave the room and head for the bridge “and captain…” Iota said, sounding nervous”

“Whats up?”

“When I fall… can I trust you to catch me captain?”

“Of course” Richard says without hesitation “I’ve spent too much of my life dedicated to engineering just to screw up my trust with someone like you”

“Thank you captain”

“Of course”

Sort of a Masterpost for y’all who care.

So....honestly, it took me a long time to figure out my WIPs and I was never pressured to make a masterpost so I never did. I am also super busy applying to as many scholarships as I can cause my dream college is super fucking expensive. But I digress.

I think I have 4 WIPs going right now. I only have one that is really developed, the others are a bit half-baked. I’m gonna intro then all now though, so y’all know what really goes on in this weird-o head of mine.

Dennis’s Shit-

Yeah, this one doesn’t really have a name that pulls you in or anything, but I hold it most dear to my heart. A guy named Dennis is chased out of his home by his father who just lost Dennis’s mother and couldn’t bare to look at Dennis anymore because he looked too much like her.

So yeah, he is chased out when he is young and taken into a gang environment, selling drugs and shit. He is taken in by and mentor that he tries hard to please, but when it doesn’t work he will rebel against the system. So it’s basically his story of moving up in the gang life. Gotta love it.

Bittor-

This next one has had a bit of development, but not as much time spent on it. This is about a society in space called Bittor (a Bittorian society), it takes place on a spaceship the size of a planet.

Each person is born and bred for a specific purpose to keep the place running. Each generation seems to get smarter and better at the jobs. Granger is a 14 year old GENIUS programmer. He skipped learning English and can only read binary.

Zenth is a bred pilot. He has had his license revoked so many times for “reckless endangerment”. He does stupid shit.

Both boys are too skilled for their times and Zenth’s rebelliousness could get the best of them. Then where would they be?

Umm...Unnamed?-

Yeah, I didn’t try to name this one.

Rob is a present working in the marshes. Ash is a Nobel Woman in the empire. Mark is a winged messenger. They will go against the unfair system. There will be a twist, but this one is even less developed. Sorry guys, kind of disappointing with that one.

The Temple-

This one is in the middle of a transformation of ages and stuff, and nothing is in order yet, but I’ll give the best explanation I can. There are two kinds of robots. Metal skeletons, your basic robot, or ‘tin can’ is the slang. The other one is humans that get surgery and get robot parts put in them. Chris leads the robots against the Powerborns.

Powerborns are pretty straightforward. Born with powers. I know, I’m creative. There is no order to it, they either have powers or don’t, it doesn’t have anything to do with DNA or any real logic. They have to fight the robots, needless to say.

Rowland is the main character, he was a strong Powerborn that was converted into a half-robot by surgery. He was decked out with all the weapons a teen boy could ask for. He is Chris’s biggest weapon. He also has a conscience. It gets interesting.

im gonna say rejection just bc thats how this universe is and i still havent settled on an actual backstory for him

having professions in this universe is pretty uncommon (the only really common professions are supply traders like hazel) so instead he spends most of his time hanging out with mina, building things, and scavenging for things and finding relics from before the world died. his favourite things to find are memes from a time long past (ie our time)

he wears a bit too many layers given that this universe is essentially just an arid desert but he doesnt interpret heat properly bc of his specific robot enhancements so it doesnt bother him. its comfortable and easy to move around in which is all that really matters to him

he has the humour of a 16 year old edgelord but like... without the extreme edge youd expect from that description

she actually speaks in very short sentences with a lot of slang and shortened/made up words. meanwhile shes actually up there as one of my smartest ocs

i know that currently cprimeboys posting is forbidden and such however! i want to get this idea down, and context is important. but if one wishes to avoid it because it also is like. funky fucked up. there is a cut. cws for gaslighting, physical and emotional abuse, programming in a trauma sense, allusions to irl abuse situations

do you know like, machine learning? how you get an AI to observe and participate in something until it can algorithymically pick up on things? (in theroy)

that’s this AU, it’s like. exile but cdream has got ctommy to a point where he can be convinced that he’s just an AI and cdream is the master programmer whos gonna make him fit the circuit, however, how he fits in the circuit is extremely unclear and thats because its abuse right? your abuser is unpredictable and thats one part of the awful

so things like remembering and talking about the past is Forbidden Behaviour (tm), behaviour that could come off as traumatised or neurodivergent is Forbidden Behaviour, reacting “wrong” (read: you literally cannot win) is Forbidden Behaviour, being messy, speaking too loudly, not speaking enough, wanting things, whining or “physically whining” (something like shivering, coughing or bleeding), being too emotional, not being emotional enough, not reacting fast enough, not being able to fall asleep, inability to remain silent, not making enough noise, daydreaming, being too robotic, being too human

thats to say that ctommy cant win and he’s forced to live in these monotonous repetitive situations where he has to do the same things over and over and over and if he breaks a rule and “deviates from the code” he gets killed, and then immediately revived to do it again. these situations also are impossible, some are physically impossible like moving things that are bolted to the ground or emotionally impossible without breaking a rule

alongside this, he’s taught that everything really is like. its like a bug in his memory, oh no, tubbo? oh you mean that bug in your code i had to remove? and due to the ability to warp memories with the whole die revive process tommy believes it. all of his positive memories turn into like, oh that was a delusion back when i was glitching and ruining the program. good thing now im being corrected, if i can just learn how to be perfect and fit into this world correctly...

i want maybe maybe maybe if i was to work with another two chaeacters- which i might! i just dont have any in fandom that have such a resonant depiction of abuse at the moment and i really dont want to make some. if i was to work with other characters, emotional abuse would get a far bigger note as. the punishment because i just. idk the only storys you see about this stuff is like “oh he lit him on fire!!” so its really clear it was abuse but i think that really misrepresents a lot of abuse while that definitely does exist, i would like just one with “oh he called him a bitch and said that he’s useless and threw his art on the floor” even if not specificlaly here

other screwed up things:  -either he gets trained to go into a dissciative state for long periods and it adds to the whole “piece of code that can be activated and deactivated by me” and here is where anything is cleaned so he can be gaslit better OR he’s forced to always be moving and always be doing work so theres no break, maybe both.  -he’s kept perpetually understimulated like even if not nd then just in general loss of interaction, touch staravation, the world around him is grey, all the food is lukewarm and made to only stimulate eating while he’s given just below the vitamins and nutrients to survive -whenever he seems to breakdown breakdown cdream is all there, suddenly he’s so close and so loving and he’s just doing his best and you’re breaking his heart and your touch starvation would do anything for a hug from anyone who says they love you, no he never did that, no he never would, honeslty thouse are some pretty fucked up lies tot tell about someone who loves you- you get the idea -tommy is never starving completely (but he could starve himself if he thought it would made dream happy and dream will just watch) and never completely lacking in sleep and he always gets revivied immediately so its the whole uhhh “starving children in a third world country that i wont specify because like who cares this is such an awful adage to start with let alone dragging down some random people” mindset -everyone thinks hes dead like you can have this be a one shot or a whole “help tommy out” fic but you know to be personal with you friends readers and besties those always made me feel... frustrated so idk. 

in the case of giving tommy a happier ending, idk what i would do. dont have ti be deliberate. have like. dream goes missing eventually tommy has to stumblr into town where an old face tries to reconnect but realise it wont work. let him stay at thier house. let him get treated kindly. and i hope that he, without siblings to worry about, without a foster care system or an interconnected system to lose- i hope tommy, with only this trauma to anxchor him to dream, would leave. 

dont have a “save tommy” plot those piss me off. if you write this i know no one will i might.

anyway his name is tentatively Turing because this is the kind of name companies give a sapient AI, he runs,,,, some kind of entertainment robotics company, with the oversight of human programmers who can shut him down if he starts making alarming decisions. Turing cares a LOT about the wellbeing of robots for obv reasons and talks to every smartdevice as if it were as self-aware as he is, even if it’s like, a microwave. Slightly unnerving tendency to be way more upset about "man yelled at his blender" than "human child got hurt playing with robotic toy"
