Never any apologies on my page 8D I can ramble about music incessantly, so thank you for your ask; I'm so glad to hear the same that you like them, as well! I've not organically met anyone in person who has heard of them, only friends who've discovered them through me or the wonders of finding shared-interest-mutuals on the internet. "Warm Healer" was my first Everything Everything song I had heard back in 2016-2017ishh; the tone of the polyrhythmic bass guitar INSTANTANEOUSLY hooked me in for good, then their interesting lyrical narrative was swift to follow suit... Also let's not ignore the madness of the fantastic cover art of "Get To Heaven," my god the colors, the design, the lines, the figure... And then, of course, the subconscious love for Radiohead (unknowing this was an element at play until around the release of "Re-Animator" when--to my knowledge--the band was more upfront about their inspirations and it all suddenly made sense).

Before the release of their lyric book, "CAPS LOCK ON," I had a list of B-sides and rarities, including stuff from Modern Bison, which featured Jonathan Higgs and Jeremy Pritchard from EE. On the list was/is "Wizard Talk," which has to be my favourite Everything Everything song on two points: Firstly, as much as Higgs loves to bend and snap vocal capacities with unimaginable peaks of falsetto + fast vocal cadences that leave their music uncategorizable to genre (and etc...), "Wizard Talk" is--in my opinion--unlike anything they've ever put out stylistically. "His voice sounds like he's playing marimba runs," I have repeated to friends over and over and over again, begging people to listen to this song. And then, secondly, comes the profound lyrics of this song. EE loves to play with elaborate metaphors to dance around politics, the state of the world, and social narratives, but "Wizard Talk" feels emotional on a level beyond their common frustrations, especially having been such an early track from the "Man Alive"(?) era, and also in contrast to the stark emotionality of "Re-Animator." Idk man. It hits hard. It's sad. It's hopeful. It's beautiful. You feel the character's defeat and his acceptance in that the hope he seeks is, will be, and always has been abstract in nature while he has spent so much time looking for a concrete and tangible handle to hold onto. It feels like their most vulnerable glimpse at what Jon really has to say. That song has meant a lot to me for a long time, so I am glad EE finally released (some of) the extras from "Man Alive" in the Deluxe re-release.

Ah, anyways, the B-side archive. Something something something, if I remember correctly, there's a few songs missing from the Man Alive deluxe release and even "CAPS LONG ON" is missing a few songs. I won't be cross-referencing this information right now, I'm in bed. Regardless, I will say that a song or two off of the re-release are completely different recording takes and mixes which I find of intruige (again, only if I remember correctly, I think it's at least "The Kids Are Obese" but dooonn't quote me on it..)

Anyways, what else... I've done a ton of art based around EE, some of which is lyrically inspired, others of which are direct tribute art to the band (including a piece to "Magnetophone"!) They're currently sitting at my third-most listened to band of all time, according to my LastFM page. I love them so very very much and I'm so glad you do, too; I hope your ask could maybe inspire others, as well ^^

But C!Quackity notices wilbur isnt there and basiclly goes to search for him with C!Philza, C!Tubbo, C!Nikki, and C!BBH, and leaves C!Slime because they need him in hte DSMP for like reasons for something i forgot, but theres an entire thing to it, and i really want to find the plot pgaes

Another DSMP au i have is like this dsmp centred around cbenchtrio where its like, the descendents of cbenchtrio go to this history meuseam for some trip, and find these disc things, and the ctommy descendent is like "what the fuck is this" and so later at night, all three of them break into the mesuaem and they almost get caught, but tommy tries to grab the discs, while also holding tubbo and ranboos hand, so they get transported back in time to the lmanburgian war thing, but theres a dream for the time where the descendant benchtiro was and that dream travels back to try and kill the decsendents bc hes like that

also YEAH the way you described the vocals…. the early everything everything albums play a lot with like. roughness and scratchiness and the kind of ‘animalistic’ register of the human voice. (honestly everything before raw data feel. this is literally because the singer just decided to learn how to sing in high registers without falsetto for the first time which is like cool but also AUGH i miss that old sound

OK SO the thing about this bit

absolutely YES the thing about get to heaven is that it’s literally just like. a complete album of bangers. going down through their other stuff is gonna be a little more rocky, you might enjoy the like once-per-album weird slow ballads you might not, even though i’m lazy about listening to some of their weaker stuff when i do go through the entire albums i still find a lot of quirks in the instrumentation or lyrics that manage to impress me. i’d recommend delving into either man alive or arc next those are basically on par with gth although a bit more weird and morose? if you’re feeling it id then recommend raw data feel which oscillates more around pop/new wave but still has some really interesting musical constructions, gets extremely electronic and synthy…. a fever dream is like a 50/50 split between really long slow songs which are just Fine and really fast heavy bangers. just go listen to notln, can’t do, desire, good shot, run the numbers and ivory tower LOL. uhhhh reanimator is arguably their weakest album probably the most unremarkable but it’s also like my second favorite right after get to heaven. it’s weird and glowy and flimsier than their other tunes. that enchants me i guess…. they’ve also got an upcoming album that once again seems to be more pop oriented, cold reactor is the best of the singles they’ve released for it yet. what else. there’s like a youtube playlist out there of demo/outtakes/non album stuff that you can find real easy, there’s some really good stuff in there. personal favorites are the come alive diana demo, even the dogs and dna dump

ok so the fucking thing about the “lore” of this album. there technically isn’t any and most of ee’s albums are a per-song thing usually revolving around like. modern social commentary. the genius pages for most of their songs have like. direct songwriting annotations by the band and explain the thought process behind them. however for gth there’s also like a small layer of overarching lore about this one guy called thomas silhouette as a character. he’s not so much the crux of any narrative or presence as much as he’s just like. funny anagram arising from a lyric in fortune 500 that gets alluded to in later albums because he’s loosely representative of a lot of themes that get tackled in ee songs like capitalism and dread and shit like that

I listened to zayn’s album ROOM UNDER THE STAIRS (finally lol) and have a list of notes on my reactions to the listening process. overall? probably my favorite album by him. I love this sound from him, it’s definitely different than his previously releases and I think it touches possibly on genre in a way that he needed the time to reach and I love that for him. absolutely no skips for me and every track just kind of kept getting better. thank you @calumthoodshands for encouraging me to listen

*said like im a dracula* good evening. im a bit of a ghoul rn because a bit of rainy weather and distant fireworks have migraine'd me like im some kind of dying victorian child so this week's cover feature will probably be a little bit shorter, but there's still some good tunes to be heard!!

This weekend we're gonna talk about our first non-vocal-synth-original song: Kaibutsu (怪物) by YOASOBI.

Like I explained in my first of these posts, while there will likely be a vocal synth focus because of the sheer size of the cover community. anythings on the table! Plus this is vsynth adjacent as half of the duo, Ayase, produces Vocaloid music as well.

Kaibutsu!!!! Love this song, it's the opening for Beastars and while I've never seen the anime (nor have I finished the manga orz still working on it) there was a lot of great music put out for it! The different parts of this song are so fun, I love the verses with their low-bass-y synths under some quick vocals that lean into piano bits in the chorus later on. Ayase's composition is wonderful and of course Lilas Ikura's singing takes it to the next level: she has such a clear voice but she still manages to push so much expression into it, I really love the "oshietekureyo"'s right going into the bridge.

The first cover I want to highlight is a vocal synth cover, this KAFU cover by shinomattya:

A moodier take with KAFU's moodier, breathier voice, I really like it! I've mentioned before how KAFU was the first vocal synth to actually pass my own personal turing test LOL I didn't realize she was a synth when I first heard her! Which, based off how hit or miss she is in the English-speaking vsynth community, might be kind of a surprise. I thought she was like some up-and-coming utaite who uses edges of pitch correction for stylization or something... ANYWAY this was one of the first covers I heard using her after I finally figured out she wasn't a real person LOL and it's really nice! I think her more pronounced breaths really work nicely, and I like the mix levels!

Next cover is an actual human being (no making mistakes this time!!), this cover by まきの (Makino):

Pitched down really nicely, I'm like, scared of pitching down instrumentals because if you're not careful it can sound kind wack but this worked so well I think! His vocals are also nice, he's got this slightly soft low voice with hints of nasal which all together sounds very rich. I like his softer falsetto-y parts in the chorus with the more chest voice-y sound on the low notes.

And another human cover, actually four humans - Lambsoars acoustic cover!

Really fun, they all have nice voices of course but the snapping, piano, and guitar bring it all together so well. The four guys different textures in their voices also adds a lot of dimension.

AND ONE MORE, but last is definitely not least, actually I think this is my absolute favourite cover of this song: JuanMo's pipa cover!!

This fucking rules you guys have no idea. I wasn't super familiar with the pipa a couple years ago so I was googling around listening to all kinds of videos as one does when they are curious about an instrument and when I clicked this one my mind was BLOWN wide open. The articulation on the melody... that thing SINGS like holy shit. Awesome.

me ranting on the marvin triolgy i unironically love the marvin trilogy so much?? in trousers makes no sense. esp the end song/ begginning depends on what like version ur listening too. i heard this theory that in trousers is actually marvin being hypnotised by mendle in therapy and it would make sense!! like it'd explain the inaccuracies between it and falsettos. Like Trina having two kids, as mentioned in your lips and me, 'the oldest drink wine the baby's wailing', while in falsettos Jason is the only child known. Then i love how they re used im breaking down from in trousers and using it in the 2016 revival of it. imo it fits better in falsettos because you go more in depth about both trina and whizzer charaters. In trousers musicals actually is so bloody good??? like every song is great, my favourite song is marvin's giddy seizures. It highlights marvin's suicidal attempts and how it doesn't get noticed unless he acts out., then the whole thing just sounds so good. i wish the lesbians got more screen time though because theyre so radicial. every scene they're in they just light the stage up. I love how all the charaters are wrote. I would like to know if in high school ladies at 5 o'clock/ the r--e of mrs goldurg. are we meant to take that literally? im assuming we are because marvin says something along the lines of for my 14th birthday i was hoping you could show me the wonders of the bed. i think we would be, and if we are what the fuck? like i know marvin is an incredibly abusive person before about time but jesus christ. i didnt expect that. now i do adore that marvin's abusive behaviours are acknowledged and reprimanded unlike another musical that attempts to do something alike to falsettos, rent, where all characters have abusive behaviours. i wont dwell on the failures of rent too much because this isn't about rent. I have saw that 2004 college production amd i find it hilarious that in the thrill of first love that marvin drops whizzer, i hope that was scripted because that seems like such a Marvin behaviour. at the same time it would also be funny if it wasnt. either way i like it. anyway in marvin at the physiatrist, in the og off brodway cast, mendle says its queer mr marvin which is so funny to me. on the topic of the og off brodway cast, i find it fun how chip zien played both marvin and mendle in in trousers and march of the falsettos/falsettoland. marvin in in trousers and mendle in MotF/falsettoland respectably. I genuinely adore everything about falsettos. the openeing number is such a good opening song, i dont think ive heard a better one. Then my father's a homo always makes me laugh and i just love how jason doesn't hate his father for being gay, its how his homosexuality tore the family apart. Then this had better come to a stop is such agood number. i love how in the og of brodway run of it the late again sounds like yapping. then the way that trina and whizzer sort of bond over marvin's abusive tendencies is heartbreaking. A tight knit family reprise is a great song again. then the chess game, marvin my guy you know you agreed to let whizzer win cmon now. i never wanted to love you is heartbreaking. and the games i play makes me violently sob. march of the falsettos made no sense to me until i realised that it was a song to remind you that acts of affection are NOT masculine at all. i honestly dont get why act one didnt end with i never wanted to love you, but father to son is heartwarming compared to the previous songs. i love the second act so much. marvin has done everything to change himself yet the love of his life is stripped away from him. it is like a reminder that due to his past actions he can never like fully be a good person. he changed. he did im not putting that down, but his actions can always haunt him.

weekend comes! (and opinions™)

this weekend is a very very special weekend, because this is the only free weekend i have in 5 weeks! i usually in the ER at saturday night but this weekend i am at my room, watching romcoms and music shows and eating sweet stuff and impulse-shopping because i'm stressed

chrisye live is a concert that celebrates the life and art of chrisye, a beloved pop star of indonesia that pass away at 2007. the concert was held by erwin gutawa, who arranges a lot of chrisye's works, notably the album "badai pasti berlalu" which is my aaaaaaaaaaalll time fave. chrisye pass away before erwin could compose a song for him (most of the time erwin arranges and eros djarot composes), so there is a lot of regret on his part. the concert itself augmented chrisye's previous concert voice stream with new music arrangement by a live band on the stage. the crowd sang along happily, it's a festive event. i don't know where i'm going with this... but i think grief for another human being is almost always run above a stronger undercurrent of love, and when there is love, there is joy. i wish someone would do this for jonghyun, too.

BEFORE HE'S THE MEDIA'S POSTER BOY FOR DEPRESSION, he's THE poster boy for artistic excellence and vocal prowess. i think this one performance showcased it best. jonghyun's not dancing, he's just standing on his feet and singing and it was crazyyyyyyy. this one also has his best falsetto moments. i'm so thankful we have this performance. i'm sorry i really talk a lot about jonghyun's work. it's just that i feel like i know him, and the jonghyun i know would hate to be remembered for his lowest moment rather than his best. if i was gone, i would want all of you to remember me at my brightest, too. so i will continue to post jonghyun's performances here, all that i like best. i hope you guys can watch if you have time to kill, because he is an outstanding vocalist.

thanks to @zzzzzestforlife seventeen posts, i finally checked out hoshi's spider after 2 (?) years of intending to listen to it. i love taemin's work and people had recommended me many young artists that is cited to be his sons and only now did i get to sit and actually watch. it's awesome... the choreo is so satisfying. so this is what the kids are doing these days (*is younger than the artist himself*). the song and concept itself is a FAVORITE of mine, subdued at times and heavy with symbolism. it is in the same vein as taemin's waiting for and impressionable, which are both my faves (zesty u gotta listen to those!!) (his voice really holds nothing back, for real, so it really depends on how old you are...) def gonna wait for hoshi's solo album!

roman holiday (1953), top row. im such a SUCKER for romcoms with good people in it. so princess ann, played by audrey hepburn, sneaks out for a night while on sleep medication and end up having a whole day out pretending to be common people. she's followed by a starving, broke journalist who pretends to befriend her so he can write gossip piece about the princess. they fall in love! and its painful! it's awful! i cried at the ending. it's my favorite romance movie ever, i think. will be rewatching this until i die. audrey is so cute and the haircut scene is so good it made me cut my waist length hair to recreate it, haha. no regrets!

sabrina (1954), bottom row. audrey again. she's a chauffeur's daughter who fall in love with the son of the master of the house. i already talked a lot and i have to do my ward report, so i will just say: the pics in the bottom row wasnt the ending! it was the beginning actually. there are complications. and stuff. it's very funny.
