TW for discussion/vent about how a disability affects me, and mention of having to hide pain

Disclaimer: I am new to Tumblr, and have yet to watch an etiquette video. If I have accidentally said or done anything I wasn't supposed to, it was entirely unintentional, and I deeply apologize. I will correct it as soon as I am made aware.

IBS should be considered a disability. I know a bunch of people in the disabled community online already consider it one, but legally it's not considered one.

Sure, im still able to have a job and do my school work, but that doesn't mean it doesn't make those things harder than it would be for someone who's digestive system isn't a mine field.

What happens when I have a flare-up at work? Which, by the way, has happened before. I can't just take a 2 hour bathroom break in the middle of my 8 hour shift! So I just stand there. in pain. ignoring the pain. keeping that customer-service smile on my face so the customers don't notice I'm in pain.

One time (before I had my meds, so the pain was a lot worse back then too) I was working a shift and my boss stationed me in the elevator. Literally the most useless job I could have been given, I was just there to press the buttons for customers. (I had a more important role at one specific spot in the shift, but that lasted like 5 minutes). I had a flareup towards the beginning of that shift. I could tell this was going to be a multi-hour bathroom visit, so I couldn't do anything about it until I got off work. I was in so much pain that I just wanted to curl up into a ball and cry. But of course, I couldn't do that. I had to stand there, and smile, and keep working. So not only was I having to smile through the judgemental stares and comments bc I was being paid to press elevator buttons, but I had to ignore being in agonizing physical pain as well.

Its not that my IBS stops me from having a job, but it probably effects my performance at my job. Who can focus in that much pain? Sure that day focus wasn't really an issue bc I was just pressing elevator buttons, but in any other position it would have been a major problem. And if I dealt with the problem to make the pain go away, I'd lose several hours of work, on a consistent basis, and probably be fired for it.

And as far as school, hygine, and social life goes, I lose several hours out of my day, every day, to being stuck in the bathroom trying desperately to make the pain go away. You think that doesn't effect my ability to find time for homework? You think that doesn't effect my ability to make it to class? You think that doesn't effect my ability to take care of my body in other ways?

I very often have to choose between going to class or taking a shower, because the time I was suppose to be in the shower, I was on the toilet. I often have to choose between getting my homework done, and spending time with friends, because the time I was supposed to be doing homework, I was stuck in the bathroom. I know homework vs social life is a common time balancing problem for students, but for most people it's "less time with friends to get the homework done", but for me it's very often "no time with friends to get the homework done". It's so isolating. If I didn't see these people at church, and at club meetings, I'd probably never get to see them. (and yes, I have missed or been late to those bc of my IBS as well)

My IBS has kept me up until the middle of the night before. It's made me miss class. It's made me late to things. It's made me miss exams! (Thank goodness my professors were understanding enough to let me take it another time).

The only ways I can manage my IBS is by taking meds, and/or severely restricting my diet. My pills help me be able to avoid some of the pain from eating food, but like any disability aid, it doesn't help 100%. Without my meds, most vegetables are completely out of the question. So is a long list of fruits, and so many other things. Even tea hurts me! Coffee too! Meds help, but I'm still in pain. Less pain, but still pain. And im still spending hours in the bathroom. 1-2 hours at a time, instead of 3-4, but it's still countable in terms of hours.

This is a lifelong condition that I was born with. If any other part of my body was effecting me this way, no one would doubt that I'm disabled. Heck, this effects me more than some of the recognized disabilities that I have! How is this not a disability?

I like your work a lot like it's genuinely Hilarious so I thought you would be the best person to ask for this.

I want to make a writing tumblr for enhypen but I'm a little lost because I've never used tumblr (as a creator) before LOL just used twitter and AO3 to write/socmed for fictional fandoms (tbh this is my first time like being a proper fan of a kpop group as to occasionally liking a song or two).

Anyways! What I've gathered from my experience on twitter and the writers I've followed here is obviously your blog should have an intro about you (inc. what you're comfy with, what you write, etc.) and a master list of your works BUT some of Tumblr's mechanics are Confusing.

Like,

1) should I create specific tags for my asks?

2) on twt, usually you create a tweet like "Hi! New to #___twt, looking for moots blah blah" to get an initial burst of likewise new people to bond and communicate with, does it work similarly here and if so/not please elaborate TT

3) is the etiquette to reblog every work you like, or is that spammy and you should just like them?

4) is there any other advice you have for navigating tumblr (like odd quirks)

5) ALSO this is a small dumb question but in the fandoms I've been in until now we usually used socmed au instead of smau do you have any idea why that's different (low-key smau is smarter tho bcus it's a shorter abbreviation)

as for your questions i'll answer them in the same order you asked them:

1. honestly i'm not 100% sure if there's any real purpose behind specific tags for your asks other than organization personally LOL but it's pretty helpful if you want to go back to look through your asks for something instead of scrolling past all the posts on your blog !!

2. omg yes i love the twt intros 💗 honestly for tumblr i think i just started posting content right away whenever i made a blog 🤧 i think intros are usually just in your navigation anyways but if you want to talk to different authors then it doesn't hurt to send an ask!! usually people communicate with different authors via the ask box 🥰

3. all sorts of interaction is great but i think reblogs are preferred!! i typically use likes as my bookmarks and then reblogs to comment on work or share it to a wider audience. the algorithm for tumblr works so that your likes don't show for others (unless you make it public on your profile) but your reblogs are on the dashes of people who follow you

4. ooh i'd say make use of the tagging system!! using tags like #enhypen fluff or #enhypen x reader on your fics will make it easier for people to find your work 💘

5. HAHAH I USED TO CALL IT SOCMED AU TOO BEFORE I JOINED TUMBLR 😭 i still use social media au as a tag but i think smau is more widely used here!! not exactly sure why but im guessing its just easier to tag 🙂‍↕️ i get you tho bc i experienced the same culture shock

anyway, I'm going to rant underneath your ask about being a child now im so sorry 😔

It's always been so weird being as young as I am both on tumblr and in the fandom space I'm currently a part of. Like realistically, a 14 y/o boy liking minecraft/mcyt sounds really normal but I don't know anyone my age that is open about being a part of this space. I think growing up on tumblr instead or twitter or tiktok honestly really helped when it comes to being happy in my intrests, since almost every other freshman to ever exist has no idea what this website is and they have no chance of ever finding my posts to make fun of me with them. I still use the other two, but I don't post and I only really open them when a cc like Charlie or Ted posts.

It's hilarious to me that because of my current intrests (jrwi and charlie in general) almost everyone that I'm friends with on here are much older minors or adults, mainly because charlie has a pretty mature and well rounded audience (THANK FUCKING GOD 🙏🙏), but also because everybody else my age that are in this fandom are on tiktok. Using tiktok for me and actually posting is kinda unsafe because of the way the tiktok contact sharing works? if someone from my classes finds it through "recommend accounts" then they can look through my account and harrass me if they recognize who it is. Not to steal a Charlie Slimecicle quote for a second, but I was rewatching an old podcast episode from the very beginning of 2020 and he described it as "elevated highschool" which I 100% agree with. Even 3 years later it's still very much just a higher form of highschool bullshit to have to deal with.

But since I don't post on tiktok I don't really have much to worry about!! My account is blank and it's the same @ as my url so nobody should recognize it and put a face to a name which im grateful for. However, being on tumblr isn't the greatest either;

People on here are all adults and I feel a little bit intimidated? In a sense? I understand that I'm a LOT different than most kids my age and I don't typically have anything to worry about but!! I feel like that's what makes it worse. The other people my age that were or still are on here don't understand tumblr etiquette, don't understand not to act like this is twitter and not have stupid cubito discourse, or just aren't funny? Idk I've just never found anyone my age (with the exception of like 3 of my mutuals you guys are amazing and I love you) that I can really talk to on here, so all of the friends I've made are much much older. I'm smart with who I talk to and how I talk to them so I'm safe don't worry!! My parents raised me right and online safety is such a wonderful thing, but one of my closest mutuals on here is in college right now, and the others are juniors or seniors in highschool. I kept my age out of my bio for so long but honestly that was because I was terrified I would scare away the people that I trusted so much because literally obviously it's going to feel weird for them to be mutuals with a genuine honest to god child. I'm relatively close to turning 15 so I'm getting less and less worried about stuff like that happening but eh that was still a real fear for a while.

What’s the best, most polite thing to do when you’re looking at a fic that hasn’t been updated for years, and probably won’t be? (Nothing to do with you, it has to do with a different fandom, Atla :) Is it alright to leave comments, or is that annoying? What about writing “inspired by” continuations or fleshing out certain scenes? What’s the dividing line between inspired by’s and adopted fics? What do you need permission for in fanfic, and what if the author doesn’t reply? Im new, and a reader

Is it alright to leave comments on old works?

100% yes! Comments are great ways to let authors know that you are still enjoying their work, even if it’s old.

It depends on the comment though, of course- never leave comments asking the author to update or asking for an explanation of why the fic is lingering unfinished. We’re already feel guilty enough as it is and, even if you only mean to encourage writers by letting them know that you’re hungry and impatient for more because you loved it, this type of comment makes me at least feel a bit used.

Writers write for themselves usually but they post to share and get feedback. Comments like that therefore aren’t the best, especially if the fic is in a long hiatus, as it just feels a little like there’s an expectation to continue for someone else’s benefit alone.

But comments telling the author that, despite the age of the fic and despite the fact it’s unfinished, you love it anyway are amazing. The comments I got during my three-year break on Reset were exactly the reason why I came back- the fact that people dug down that far into fandom archives, found and read my story and liked it was a huge motivation to come back to it. They let me know that there were still people out there to return to and also that my hard work was being seen. To know that something you have written was enjoyed by another person is a huge part of why works are posted and these comments were an amazing surprise.

Even if you’re sure a fic won’t ever been updated again, comments telling an author how much you loved their story anyway are always amazing to get and you’re a star if you leave some. Praising work is never impolite!

What about writing ‘inspired by’ continuation or fleshing out certain scenes?

If you want to add a continuation to someone’s story or reimagine it in your own way, it’s the bare minimum to reference the original work, linking back to it so that people can give the original author of the idea and their work credit and appreciation and letting the original author know what you're doing. (I want to reiterate that this is the bare minimum and not all authors will appreciate just this). To not do this is akin to claiming the idea as your own which is very impolite

It is more polite and better etiquette to first ask for permission

If you ask and an author says no it’s best to respect their wishes, especially if they have a solid reason for it (maybe that story was based off their real life or came from a point in their lives that they’d rather not be reminded of.) This does depend on the fandom though and varies from person to person (for example, I find being linked to more important but still appreciate someone asking permission, whereas for other authors it might be different)

For most authors it is an honour to have someone love a story they’ve written so much that they want to add to it and they will most likely be thrilled that you plan on continuing their story or writing based off it in some way. (I would be over the moon!!)

All stories are rehashings of ideas and characters and tropes at the end of the day though and story rewrites and continuations are a great way to get into writing as a first timer, so don’t be afraid to ask authors for this! Some authors even have in their profile a mention of how they feel about rewrites and additions/ fanworks, so if you’re too shy to ask them directly, take a look about to see if they’ve got this somewhere.

TLDR: Always link back and reference the original work and author, crediting them and their idea as the inspiration for your own and give the author a link to your own. If you want to be polite and respectful, ask for permission and respect the original author’s wishes

What’s the dividing line between inspired by an adopted fics?

It is a fine line indeed and again probably varies from author to author.

The fewer changes you make to the original, the more likely it is that your story will swing to the ‘adopted work’ side of things, which comes very close to reposting work (e.g., keeping everything the same but changing the gender of a character, verses taking the same plot concept and writing a different outcome)

‘Inspired by’ fics are lovely and again, taking a work you love and changing a few parts to do your own way is a good way of starting out as a new writer (less factors for you to change) and writing stories based off your favourite fic is a great way to show the author that you loved their work.

The best approach for this is to think about how you would feel if you wrote something and someone approached you to ask to make the changes you plan on doing- would you feel like they’re copying you too much? Do you feel that it’s exploring new areas/ ideas? Would you be happy if someone asked you the same thing, or a little uncomfortable?

The best way if you’re unsure, of course, is to ask the original author! Everyone is different and has a different opinion on what is fine and what is ‘too close’, so this isn’t something you can really make a hard and fast rule for.

Continuations are a little safer to do as you’re adding to their story without rewriting it too much- you’re giving new ideas or perspectives or continuing the plot along and honestly it is great when people do this to works!

What do you need permission for in a fanfic?

There is very little that you need permission for, it really is more about respect and etiquette.

That being said, the biggest no no I can think of is reposting. Without permission, never repost. Unless you have the express permission of the author to repost their work under your name for whatever reason, this is a very impolite thing to do

Reposting is different of course from reblogging. Reblogging you're sharing the author's work and they still get the notes and comments and credit- you're just beaming them out to a wider audience and for sites like Tumblr, reblogs are essential to any content creator.

Reposting however cuts ties with the author and is akin to you claiming their work for your own. Some authors may not be on all sites and may be okay for their work to be reposted in areas they don't visit, but never assume this and always ask

The only other no no I can think of is slightly similar- Translations. If you want to translate a work always credit the original author, otherwise this is just a thinly disguised repost. It is less 'required' to ask but it is polite. Bare minimum again is to link to the original work and credit the original author

What if the author doesn’t reply?

This is the sad part about Internet. Sometimes authors move on, delete accounts or abandon them, or stop checking on their work

It depends on what you're asking for (reposts very much no no almost always) but if you've tried asking for permission and an author hasn't been active for a long time, I personally would go ahead with caution as long as you again link to whatever you're referencing/ inspired by.

Like I said earlier, most of this is just etiquette and politeness, rather than hard and fast rules to live by. Authors cannot stop people from doing whatever they want to with it but if you’re unsure about how they feel regarding continuations/ rewrites/ translations ask them. If an author is absent but you're trying to be respectful then that's the most important thing! Leaving a paper trail for them to find if they ever do come back is a good compromise, but not all authors may agree and this is very much how I personally feel about my own work being used in this way

Hi, I’m Jordan. I’m a first year math major who really likes art. 

Due to quarantine and having both my work cancelled and my school switched to online, i suddenly have 8+ more hours free per day, so i’m spending most of that time drawing things. 

Some of the stuff i’ve uploaded so far has gotten way more attention than i thought it would especially within the first two weeks of having this account, so thats really cool!

Right now, its mainly Steven Universe stuff and it still will be for a while, but eventually it’ll be art for other shows, movies or books and probably some personal projects. I’ll make sure everything is tagged accordingly, so if you’re following me for steven universe fan art, it will all be tagged with steven universe. (I’m not entirely sure how tumblr etiquette works so i hope that makes sense)

hey, you can feel free not to answer this if it makes you uncomfortable, but I was wondering, would you ever consider writing a nsfw fic for LAOFT? like obviously when they're all off age and all. also, I've noticed that you've purposefully left out who's top, bottom, or verse and I was curious if this was because you yourself don't want to write about that, don't know, or just don't want to set anything so the readers can think what they want. again, sorry if this makes you uncomfortable.

i was uncomfortable with going all-out with that specific prompt because i knew Logan would definitely still be 17, but not with writing laoft nsfw in general

its more like i personally have never written nsfw, so im not sure how it… works, like etiquette-wise

for example, if i did (and its starting to look more like a when, because I have an idea that just wont leave me alone) i wouldnt want to post it to this blog because I’m NOT interested in getting flagged. i’d put it on my nsfw side blog, IF i posted it anywhere on tumblr at all instead of just Ao3

and i wouldn’t want to use the tag list because i know for a fact there’s at least three minors on it

and i do have. a pretty solid idea of the top/bottom/verse situation but again, not sure how i feel about putting it on this blog specifically.

at dinner i was like very obviously Not Good so my mom asked me about it and i sorta hummed and hahhed until saying how i just really hate my job and wanna quit and later this month i’m gonna talk to my boss about that to see if we cant find a way to make me Hate My Job Less

and my sister came in at some point, missing part of the convo, and was like “well if you’re going to quit, you need to start looking for work before then” and my mom’s all like, “yeah put your resume on linked in or indeed, etc”

and like. i told them i wasnt gonna quit for awhile, i’ll just let my boss know i’m unhappy and have a few months to work thru it and try to get happier and if that fails THEN i will quit.

but the reason i said that is because i dont wanna tell them my real back up plan which is “actually i dont wanna live at all, so if i quit or get fired i’ll probably just kill myself” bc that is not good etiquette to mention at the dinner table

idk i feel like. like when i was younger i was at a point where i was like “i want to die, but so does everyone else, so i guess i’ll keep living because they somehow do”. and then i learned i was wrong so i went into “i want to want to live, so i’m gonna make the most of what i have, now that i know wanting to die isn’t normal”. 

and now im just. like. fucking exhausted from trying that hard. i want to die, and i recognize that a certain amount of other people do too, and many of those other people either Actually Just Die or they get help or something i dont fucking know how the other ones get thru that tbh bc if i did i wouldnt be where i am. 

what if i just. spent my week off from work putting all my things into boxes. like drawings that i dont want my family to see into the recycling or a box labeled “please burn this if you respected me at all”. put some women’s clothes into a box labeled “never been worn: donate to good will”. etc etc. and then just. i dont fucking know man. i googled some stuff about overdosing on pills and google was like “here’s the suicide prevention hotline number”. thanks google, ya mean well. 

everyday just kinda sucks. and then if one thing goes a little wrong i spend the remainder wanting to die. and there are good moments. there are funny youtube videos. there are good tv shows. there are games of cards against humanity with my family and of D&D type games with online friends. there’s stuff that brings me joy. but its like. guess its fucking selfish of me to say but it’s... not enough? 

the biggest thing is almost def my job. and if i enjoyed it more, things would probably be better. so i should quit and find a new one. thats just. easier said than done.i wish my job could go back to being what it used to be. but things changed like a year ago or maybe two years now idfk time is an illusion. and its just. been shit ever since. 

i’ve started learning portuguese more seriously. been doing the few minutes a day on a couple different apps. i think. my ideal existence. would be moving out to my grandmother’s home in portugal, living alone now that they’ve moved on. it’s lovely there year round, so i get my exercise walking to the lil convenience store, getting some things to eat and bake with, having bread delivered by the bread truck to my home every day. the house is paid for, so all i have are utilities and food. which i pay for thru commissions online. maybe some sore of artwork with the local people. there’s land, and anyone who wants it can do with it what they will but all i ask is if they grow any food i get a little now and then. i get to be a hermit, but i’ll help out my neighbors now and then, and i know they’ll help me too. it’s a community, but with its share of isolation, and without the obligations i feel here. i grow old, having lived my own life on my own time. eventually, i’m found dead there, by a curious neighbor who didn’t care quite enough to find me before it was too late. but it wasn’t suicide. just age and the problems that come with it. but i’ve lived with minimal capitalism, with few to no family or friends or pets. there’s solace, silence, and peace. i have lived life, and can leave it without worry.

... that wont happen though. as long as my parents are alive, i am bound to them, and if i did manage to leave this house and go anywhere at all never mind portugal i dont think i would be free of the worry over them. familial obligation, holidays, etc. i can’t live without worry while i’m avoiding them and feeling guilty about it. but i can’t live as myself without worry while i’m still shackled to them too. if i stay alive, i’ll be in limbo for years as they grow older and i need to help take care of them or find people/places that can take care of them for me but that i need to pay for. etc etc. there’s so much. responsibility in this world. that i never asked for. god i just wish i was never born, really. it’s amazing to me now that anyone can have kids. like raise orphans or whatever sure. but to actually birth a child into this existence, knowing how terrible the world is? why would you choose to put someone through that? why force them to experience this, it’s dreadful. 

this. okay that latest paragraph, i wanna be clear, i 100% am not ever gonna kill someone. like i’m not gonna hurt my parents so i can live free or whatever, and i’m not saying taking someone out of this life is better than bringing them into it, etc. i’m suicidal sure but i’m not a fucking asshole.

pls don’t... fucking reply to this in any way or even acknowledge it. i know it all already okay? the pandemic has brought people down. capitalism brings people down. the fucking winter and its holidays bring people down. i know.

this is an  independent  roleplay blog portraying several  canon characters  of  yu-gi-oh!,  kingdom hearts,  sailor moon,  and  pokemon.   i am in  no way  affiliated with the official work or releases,  i am simply a fan creating  fan work  of characters from these series.  i  do not  claim ownership of any of these characters,  or anything having to do with them or the franchises they come from.

while i have considerable knowledge   &   understanding of the source material from which these characters come,  all of my muses are primarily headcanon based,  and some are canon divergent.  this is due to my own writing preferences   &   personal perceptions of these characters.

i plan on being active,  obviously!!  but i have other blogs to run,  as well as a life outside of rp,  so i won’t be able to be here every waking moment,  and it may take me a while to reply sometimes.  but i do my best,  always!!  it’s never anything personal,  or me not caring about being here.

i hold all of my writing partners to the same basic writing etiquette as pretty much everyone else :  no godmodding  /  metagaming,  no ooc drama,  and approach me  beforehand  about specific plots you’d like to do.

i reserve the right to turn down anything i don’t believe suits or fits my muse,  but if that comes to be the case, i will of course  always  be friendly   &   polite about it!  and i expect the same in return.  let’s be kind and have fun pls.

i am  semi-selective,  but very loosely so.  i am more than open to interacting with characters from series other than those portrayed on this blog.  that  includes  ocs   (  so long as they have some information for me to reference  ) !!   

that being said,  if i’m unfamiliar with the series your muse comes from,  it may take me a while to get used to interacting with them,  but i am open to looking into info about them and learning more about the character!!

i tend to write a lot.  please  don’t be intimidated or discouraged by that!!   i  never  expect anyone to match the amount of words in my starters or replies.  i only ask that equal effort is put in,  and paragraphs aren’t responded to with one-liners,  lest i simply won’t reply. 

this is obviously for fun,  but i put a  lot  of effort into my portrayal   &   into my writing!!  if i write you a starter upon your request,  please  dignify it with an adequate response.  i’m here to write after all    . . . . .   i can’t imagine what else i would be here for fjhvjhgfg

there’s  never  any rush to reply.  i’ll take my time   &   you should take yours,  too!! this is meant to be a fun   &   relaxing hobby,  so let’s not stress over anything.

i write exclusively in  para  /  novella  style,  meaning literate sentences with quotations to indicate when a character is speaking.  that’s just how i’m most comfortable writing, i don’t tend to stray away from that. 

i do occasionally do text message threads,  but those are not necessarily ideal for me. 

i am open to plotting with  all mutuals!!  even if our characters come from the same series   &   have something of a relationship already in canon,  i’m willing to expand upon it   &   explore different types of relationships!!  

i do ask,  however,  that if you approach me to plot,  you come with something of an idea or ready to contribute to a brainstorming session.  i’m not finna do all the work lmao

i have  terrible  anxiety,  so unless it’s been like an ungodly amount of time   (  i.e.,  over a month or something  ),   please  do not  approach me about the status of your reply.  i’m working on it,  i promise!!  i try my best to do them in order but some threads naturally get a quicker response than others due to various factors;  length, inspiration,  relationships,  et cetera.  it’s never anything personal if i’m taking a bit of a while,  i promise.  i’ll do my best!!  ♡

i have shipping biases.  there are some ships that i am quite fond of   &   that i am more likely to want to write.  even still,  the main factor when it comes to shipping is,  you guessed it,  chemistry.  even if i have a bias for the ship,  i prefer some amount of buildup to the actual romance.  

that aside,  i’m willing to ship just about anything  so long as it is unproblematic.  y’all know what that means,  i’m not even gonna get into it.  don’t be gross.  

i don’t ship with duplicates;  i don't ship my muses with duplicates of themselves,  nor of other muses i am already shipping that particular character with.  i’m also  highly selective  with shipping.  though this is technically a multishipping blog,  i don’t like having a lot of ships.  i just like to have a few that i can focus on   &   develop.  

despite that,  i am  more than willing  to interact with duplicates of both my muses   &   muses of others i interact with!!  more on that further down.

Okay, so... This post has been a long time coming. Like, long enough that I’ve gone back and forth and made many posts about this over the past week. ahaha. On one hand, I feel bad bringing up things that happened so long ago, and that almost kept me silent for good. It makes me feel grudgey and petty and like I’m abusing my fandom platform. But on the other hand, I’ve had certain things happen lately that have led me to reconsider my stance of silently blocking people who make me uncomfortable in fandom. And god, despite blacklisting and blocking this guy, he’s been showing up on my dash like crazy lately due to screenshots and whitelisting. He’s all over karabita fandom, and at a certain point, I realized that that isn’t just uncomfortable for me seeing him everywhere -- it’s also a bit worrying considering the age of many people in this fandom, who are honestly really young.

Last spring, I started writing in the karabita fandom, and it led to a lot of firsts for me. I’d never really had many followers on tumblr before, and I almost never got asks before my fic for this fandom started getting popular. So I really wasn’t sure about ask/request etiquette, and I didn’t always lay down the law like I would learn to do so later. Basically, I wanted to be everyone’s friend, I wanted to answer everyone’s @messages and reblogs and asks and IMs, and I didn’t want to say no when I got requests and asks that made me uncomfortable. I also tended to answer asks I had any kind of problem with privately, which is a decision I’ve since come to regret. I learned that answering them publicly may lead to some fandom friction, but it creates a public record of someone’s weirdness towards you.

I’ve definitely gotten some weird asks over the past year. A lot of them have been anonymous, so I never really knew who to avoid. But starting last summer, one person sent me a long string of bizarre asks, and they did it logged in. president-frankenstein. I answered most of these privately bc honestly most of them made me weirded out, frustrated, or kind of creeped out. At least one I found deeply offensive. (And yes, I still have copies of all of these in my inbox.)

There was a strong element of pushing me to do things I didn’t want to do. He approached me asking me to write Totty/Chibita, a pairing I’ve never talked about publicly bc frankly, it’s a very much hated NOTP of mine. I told him this, and he was like “oh, that’s fine!” (Phew!!) And then he asked me to read his Totty/Chibita fic. (What??) And like all these beginning asks were couched in very complimentary, almost obsequious terms (which also made me kind of uncomfortable, but that’s more my own issues) so I was like. “Well, that was weird, but I guess not a big deal.”

Things took a turn for the weirder when the guy sent me a long, detailed prompt (completely unprovoked, requests weren’t open or anything) for a Pacific War AU that included, along with myriad other things, romanticization of Imperial Japanese soldiers, historically inaccurate details that would aid in that romanticization, and romanticization of (non-canon) disability, all things that make me incredibly uncomfortable bordering on offended. (As most of my followers know, I am disabled IRL, and as for the Imperial soldier thing, well, I’d be equally upset to get a request to write a Nazi soldier romanticizing fic. Protip: war crimes aren’t sexy.) I went back and forth on how to answer this weird, unasked for message, especially because I was honestly kind of seeing red about the contents of the prompt. I eventually sent back a polite but very terse message saying that the content made me very uncomfortable and I under no circumstances wanted to write it. And at that point, I basically washed my hands of it and hoped it was over and he’d stop talking to me.

He apologized. And he kept apologizing. Here’s a tip for people who are apologizing: if you apologize and the person you’re apologizing to doesn’t answer you -- but you keep sending messages until you get a reply back? You care about assuaging your own guilt more than the actual comfort of the person you’re apologizing to. And I will tell you, my comfort level dropped from “low” to “basement level”. I honestly never wanted to talk to him again, but I did eventually send him a message like, yes, I got your apology the first time, I just didn’t want to talk to you anymore.

And then the thing happened that switched me from “I do not like a person in fandom” to “holy shit this person creeps me out”. As soon as I told him I didn’t want to respond to his asks, he posted photomanip fanart for a fic of mine plus a multiple paragraph tumblr post fawning over me. There were a lot of red flags in there, and I could probably break it down point by point (and did, when I contacted several friends and showed him all his messages like “am I right to be incredibly weirded out by this guy” bc I still always doubt my gut reaction) but here are the main things that automatically alarmed me.

Publicly implying closeness that did not exist. Referring to me by real name instead of pseud, acting like he knew what I intended for my fics (he was wrong, by the way), talking about how long he’d been a reader (not that long, actually), etc. Huge, huge red flag.

Actually, continuing that second point, the assumption that he knew what was going on inside my head was presumptuous, entitled, and a little creepy. Like he straight up said that he was sure that if had made the fic longer or if I ever continued the fic, I’d definitely include this headcanon of his. (He sent me asks related to this (again, incorrect) headcanon of his later on, and I did not answer them.) Like he just took it as a given that he understood what I really meant when I said things, which is always a bit alarming when someone already doesn’t seem to understand what you’re telling them.

Tagging me in his post and talking about how much he hoped I liked it (I DID NOT) but not actually directing anything in the post towards me. Making sure I saw something but not talking to me. He was just like. Self-admittedly talking to my audience and cutting me out of the loop. He posted it in all the fandom tags. It was weird and offputting and performative. And very, VERY public.

Now, some background and further explanation about why this upset me so much. I have, in the past, been stalked online. And no, these events I’m talking about now never came anywhere near that feeling of unsafety. But guys, this is absolutely something that the guy who ended up stalking me did to me repeatedly, often enough that I finally realized that doing this is manipulative, not complimentary. Here’s the pattern: Be friendly, upset me until I no longer wanted to communicate with him, then make a public gushing announcement about how wonderful he thought I was. This part is complicated. Part of it is bound up in the whole (deeply problematic) trope of “winning a girl’s esteem back through an OTT gesture” that’s popular in movies -- and that I have grown to hate -- and some of it is linked to female socialization. Above all else, be nice. If someone compliments you, even if it makes you uncomfortable, you’re a “bitch” if you don’t acknowledge it and say thank you. When you tell a guy that you don’t want to talk to him and he responds by making a VERY PUBLIC (again, posted to all fandom tags) post full of gushing praise, it is a manipulative move designed to put you in a position where you need to respond. The guy knew I respond to everyone who makes fanworks of my stories (or, uh, at least try to -- I’ve definitely forgotten during busy periods a couple times), and the guy knew that a socially acceptable response to a post like that is public acknowledgment. It’s a way of bribing you into talking to them again (that grand OTT gesture -- whether romantic or, as in this case, platonic -- that makes any girl forgive you) and a way of putting you in a social situation where you have to talk to them again. It’s a shitty thing to do to someone.

And let’s be 100% clear about something. Putting a woman on a pedestal is just another way of dehumanizing her. There comes a time when praise becomes deeply uncomfortable rather than complimentary, and this guy saw that line and fucking pole-vaulted over it.

I went back and forth on how to respond to this. I thought about privately contacting him, which was my usual go-to response when things made me unhappy online. I thought about reblogging it with a simple message to stop contacting me, publicly for once so people would finally know how I felt about all this. (There was a point when people were actually straight up “shipping” me with my stalker (their words), so I knew the dangers of letting the illusion of closeness hang out in public where people who didn’t know our private history would see it.) In the end, I just ignored it and hoped he’d get the fucking picture.

Spoilers: he didn’t. He contacted me several more times, asking for meta and fic again. I answered one ask, out of that sickly guilty feeling I always get when I don’t respond to fandom asks and because it actually was information that I wanted to convey to my followers, and then just...stopped replying to any. Honestly, I wish I hadn’t even replied to that one ask because I fear that it encouraged him. He stopped sending me asks for a little while, but then I started getting anon asks that -- well, obviously I can’t prove anything, but the guy’s asks were always pretty easy to pick out of a crowd, so I had my suspicions. In the end, I was getting stressed out whenever I saw him in fandom (and disagreed with like...100% of his headcanons and fandom thoughts) and I didn’t want to have to worry about if he really was sending me anon messages, so I blocked him. Like the last thing I need is paranoia. I barely ever block people on tumblr, so this was a hard decision for me. But yeah, after several months of weird messages, I blocked him.

Going forward.... idk man. idek what I want. After I blocked him, he couldn’t bother me anymore, so that was good enough for rme. I blacklisted his name, which unfortunately blacklisted a lot of fanworks -- he tends to get his groupie on with other fan creators in the karabita fandom, so he sends asks to people ALL THE TIME and so a lot of fanworks have his name in the post -- and for the most part didn’t see him all that often. But then a whole bunch of things (detailed in other posts) happened in short order and between my realization that resolving my stalker situation privately allowed him to flourish in fandom and the fact that suddenly I could not fucking escape this guy, I started considering going public with my own discomfort. I don’t want anyone else to find themselves in the weird, uncomfortable situation I was in.

At the same time, though, like I said... The guy’s username is in all kinds of fan content posts. After a couple of followers approached me privately to get the story on the guy who was clearly stressing me out, they asked me if I wanted them to stop reblogging posts that contained his asks, especially ones that have screenshots of the asks and therefore can’t be blocked. And part of me really doesn’t want to see those things, but even more of me believes that to be desperately unfair towards the people who make fanworks that just happen to be associated with him. So like. Don’t do that. Please do not make any callout posts or harass anyone involved with this, either. I 100% do not condone fandom dogpiling.

I guess I’ll just tell you the same thing I told the (new) friend that I saw, to my horror, publicly praising the guy who stalked me for years as “a great friend’. You can be friends with whomever you want, but just know the guy’s done creepy shit. It’s possible that p-f is just socially awkward, like many people in fandom, and he just legit did not get that he was freaking me out. (Despite me, at a couple points, telling him I was uncomfortable.) But I’ve learned the hard way that repeatedly forgiving people who are “socially awkward” can land you in situations where you feel unsafe, and that’s never okay.

So I guess now you know?? I’ve gone over the reasons I hesitated to make this post many times in other posts, and I’ll add one more thing. I blocked p-f. Unless he logs out or someone c/ps this for him, he cannot read this, and he cannot directly defend himself. I do worry over that bc it seems unfair. But at the same time, I’ve come to the point where I’m tired of just not talking about it and privately, politely trying to get people to stop when they make me uncomfortable in fandom. Other people deserve to have fun and feel safe in fandom, but so do I! The fic that a guy wants to read, or his feelings of guilt, or his desire to smooth things over and make me like him -- none of those things take precedence over my own sense of safety and comfort while playing around in a hobby, and the fact that he prioritized those things over my clear discomfort is the biggest red flag of all.

Also, I have him blocked for a reason. I will not be looking at or responding to any reply by him, and please do not try to ferry messages between us. I will block you, too, bc I will no longer be able to trust you to respect my boundaries. (Again, that’s something I had to deal with when I finally spoke up about the guy who’d been sending me upwards of 50 messages a day on like 10 different platforms, going to places I liked IRL to find “traces of me”, trying to become friends with my friends so we’d run into each other in social environments, and publicly planning play dates for our future children -- and it tore me to bits when I lost friends that way.)

I'm not quite sure how to say this w/o getting too deep into it,but there seems to be a Communication problem between Mount Sinai Hospital in Miami Beach and my Insurance company united american. They(the hospital) tell me they never get paid by my insurance Company and i have been back and forth between the two of them. We have only really had one huGE one where we went to Disney World together and it was AMAZING it wasn’t v busy cause we went in their off season and it was literally so fun I’d love to go again tbqh

5. What would you change about yourself if you could?

hmmm I’m tryin’ to love myself more so I feel like I defeat the purpose if I say what I wanna change, but also I’m trying to get healthier this year so maybe just so more strength & also clear skin bc those are what I’m working towards right now.

6. What really makes you angry?

I think what really gets on my nerves is & makes me angry is peoples unwillingness to listen to one another. Like I don’t wanna get political bc i hate ( hate ) politics but like seriously. Treat people as humans. Both sides have wrongs in this and it bothers me that both sides act like they’re ‘holier than thou’ but are both, at times, wrong. No one gets anywhere and we won’t get anywhere if we assume things of one another & also if we don’t stop to realize we are all, in fact, humans who just want to live a happy & healthy life. Unless someone is pointedly a bad person and wants to cause destruction, hate, discourse, ect. then just either try to have a conversation or let it go if there’s none to be had. Being an activist is an amazing thing to do & is mostly always a selfless act but unless you fully accept you’re never actually going to fix everyone & change everyone’s views to your own then you’re just going to be unhappy & bitter for the rest of your life.

7. What motivates you to work hard?

Music mostly, it just gives me a good vibe ( depending on the song ) and it just??? It’s like pressing play on a movie or something ‘cause if I have background music ( or not so background music ) then it’s like somethings supposed to be happening so I do more stuff.. but like, I am a super unmotivated person unless I actually have a task that needs to get done, like if it’s a personal motivation to do something it’s ten times harder lmao

8. What is your favorite thing about your career?

since I don’t… really have one I… idk I mean if I made writing a career I guess I’d say my favorite thing is when things click for a muse & you have a lot of muse for writing & it all just pours out & you’re happy.

10. What is your proudest accomplishment?

When I was at camp one little girl in my cabin was just??? adorable??? and she said once when we were talking that I made her want to be a counselor because it looked like fun and it just??? me ??? inspiring a little girl ?? to want to do the funnest job ever??? i was happy. proudest moment. 

11. What is your child’s proudest accomplishment?

m m y  ch il d …. u me an m y cat?? He once swatted at our big dog i was proud of him 4 having the courage tbh.

I haven’t read a book in forever but I really wanna re-read The Last Song so probably that one.

13. What makes you laugh the most?

Corny jokes. I’m a sucker for em, but also just jokes in general if u can make me laugh u basically have me in the palm of ur hand bc I love laughing but also puppies being clumsy & joe jonas. just fuckijng joe jonas ok he makes me laugh & all he has to do is smile ok.

14. What was the last movie you went to? What did you think?

Uh last movie I went to was Underworld: Blood Wars & It was better than I thought it would b tho it was a little awkward I was sitting next to an old bearded man while a girl got eaten out so that was like, O.O but it was good & I really loved one of the girls in it but I can’t remember her name soBS

15. What did you want to be when you were small?

 a dog ( bless the puppy filter ) no but really I don’t know I never really knew what I wanted to be I switched so much I mean I took ballet classes but failed I took art but I’m still meh, I wanted to be a vet but I can’t deal with the death aspect of it at all. I dunno fam I just wanted to be a dog & live a happy pure life as a pupper.

16. What does your child want to be when he/she grows up?

He want’s to be a lion. Rawr.

17. If you could choose to do anything for a day, what would it be?

Cuddling with Cass all day sounds v legit I’d pick that. ( or disney world again…  but with Cassandra, bc yes. )

18. What is your favorite game or sport to watch and play?

I want to get back into sims *side eyes kae* but also I think u mean just sports so I don’t know… I mean football?? It’s interesting to watch tbh but like I don’t really watch any other sport so it’s football as default.

19. Would you rather ride a bike, ride a horse, or drive a car?

I’d rather have someone drive a car for me ( sobS ) but also I’ve never ridden a horse so that’d be fun to try

Uh, some Miley Cyrus / Hannah Montana stuff soBS or.… … ..  Hamilton oH GOD HAMILTON OK Fukc KME UP. H A M I L  T ON .

21. What two radio stations do you listen to in the car the most?

Either 105.3 or 104.5 ‘cause they’re the like, top 100 stations near us? that or we just shuffle all of my dads & moms saved stations which are like, old rock music & like 80′s - 00′s stations which are ok too. 

22. Which would you rather do: wash dishes, mow the lawn, clean the bathroom, or vacuum the house?

I do all of these in one day sobs but shit Vacuum, cleaning the bathroom is like some kind of level 10 hell spaces nothings ever actually clean & it takes forever even tho it’s the smallest room jfc. I wash dishes allthe time tho so I’d want a break & mowing the lawn is legit not that bad it’s just like, mentally I gotta get UP and then once I do I’m chill. It burns calories so im chilli. 

23. If you could hire someone to help you, would it be with cleaning, cooking, or yard work?

Yard work fam. I love cooking by myself ( or well baking… I don’t cook much I just make cookies  lmAO ) but also & cleaning I’m used to doing alone so it’s chill but outside work is just annoying & needs to be over asap.

24. If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

this is super hard but my mom’s bbq chicken with red skin potatoes, it’s like the best thing ever, but this is ridiculous like- food is too good to give up. 

25. Who is your favorite author?

Okay I haven’t read anything is sO LONG so I’m not really sure but just on the premise of knowing a lot of his work I’m going to go with C.S. Lewis because I love the way he explains things & I love Narnia.
