❤️ i learned mainly by scrolling on pinterest, noticing cool stylistic choices in random artworks and squirreling them away in my brain for when i’ll try them out later in my own scribbles 🍎 (⃔๑⃙⃘◡̈๑⃙⃘)⃕↝ a good example of this is when i noticed these magazine covers had murderously cool use of texture and pattern, but i couldn’t figure out how to replicate it digitally so after some loooong pondering i arrived at using origami patterns for clothing/hair! i’ve only just begun doing this so i still have to experiment some more 🤔🧨💥

(if anybody wants im totally down to messaging them the origami patterns i’ve downloaded so far!!)

🧡 i also learned how to draw boys by first drawing girls over n over, then eradicating gender constraints in my brain by drawing my boys like girls. nice. a lot easier this way! idk when i first started drawing boys i would be sooo worried about realism and scared of making them too feminine by giving them waists or thigh gaps or small shoulders—stupid small stuff that kept my boys looking stiff and rigid—but now i Don’t Care and i couldn’t be happier!! ୧⃛(๑⃙⃘◡̈๑⃙⃘)୨⃛* ੈ✩‧₊˚* ੈ✩‧₊

💛 hands! i give up on making them realistic. i usually don’t even bother with knuckles… when i draw hands, the fingers are a combination of a hard angle + and curve, then the fingernails are just black triangles heh

💚 eyes! nowadays i mostly go for triangular irises 🔺 just cuz they look cool and are sometimes easier than circles. but when the iris is in the middle of the eye, i do ovals! 🔴

🩵 mouths! generally i exclude the teeth because i like that ambiguous look to a biiig open smile, like is this an open yelling mouth or a teeth-clenched grin? i really liked how harley quinn and poison ivy look in the batman cartoon so everytime i draw like akira im envisioning these two baddies then BAM ( ꙭ ).ᐟ.ᐟ cunty black lipstick!!

💜 i really like drawing fabric folds with a little dot at the end! it’s like the cherry on top 😸 u can see the ways i do fabric here 👇🌈🪸

🩷 colors! i like pink so i make all my drawings very pink. it delights me. so i guess u should just aim to incorporate as much of ur favorite color into ur works as possible? at the end of coloring, i augment the eye strain To The MAX by smearing highlights all over the canvas using a layer set to “overlay”!! the neon pleases something primal in me… ಇ( ˵ᐛ ˵)ಇ♥️🧨💥

funny weird fursona from ages past hours while i wanna take this opportunity to share my art, i kinda also wanna reach out to everybody who had cringy neon old fursonas and oc's that they're embarrassed of or feel like they need to shittalk every time they mention them bc "theyre totally better at making characters now i swear!" this is my fursona splash. i've changed sonas a few times, but none of them will be as important to me as her. she's not there yet, but next year in february, on my birthday, she will be 9 years old. i made her feb 22nd of 2015, my 9th birthday. i stopped using her eventually, because i thought i'd grown out of her. i used to show her to people and laugh about how stereotypical of a mary sue she was, how she had a demon AND angel form, how i'd ship her with characters from whatever media i was interested in at the time, how she had super secret sparkle powers that could do anything and how she's "not me anymore" then i remembered how crushed i felt when my friends at the time first started calling her one. i was knee deep at that point in thinking mary sues were dumb, and felt really bad about it when a friend said she was a huge mary sue and how i should probably change her. they even got mad when i said i didnt want to and told me i "couldn't take criticism". ive tried so hard over the years to distance myself from her while trying not to be too hard on her, to enjoy her in an "ironic, more experienced way" and regard her as what NOT to do.

this is the first ever drawing i did of her. another oc of mine turns 9 on my bday, and ill do art of her too, but this is where i made her. she was a drawing of firestar that i got bored drawing and decided to slap some neons on from the ms paint advanced preset colors. as you can see, she hasn't really changed much. her name used to be colordrop, because i had a stuffed bunny around that time with the same name. i think i renamed her to splash because i liked splashkittyartist. is the art good? no. did i really care? not really! i didnt even know it was bad at the time, because it honestly wasn't. i just wasn't as far in my art journey as i am now. im glad i never deleted my deviantart account, and i plan at some point to go through and save the images that are important to me on a google drive of some kind. aslong as im able to remember and keep her, she's an important part of myself. she's still me, just from a different time, and also so much more than that. im not sad about her, not in a nostalgic "i wish i could go back way". im happy, if anything, because i only recently realized we shared a birthday. isn't that cool? to not only have an oc that was made on your birthday, but reaches milestones with you? when she turns 18, i'll be 27. when she's 27, i'll be 36. i think that's pretty neat. i think it's important for every artist, if they struggle with this, to look for their old oc's and fursonas and whatnot from when they were kids and instead of looking at them through a lens of "im better now, do you see how bad i used to be at this whole character making thing though? its funny.", instead be kind to your old creations and go "wow, i had alot of fun with you. i wonder if i can have even more." if you're able to, start using them again. write with them again, even if its small and silly and more out of whimsy and joy than actual plot development. i implore you to be kinder to kid you. even if kid you wasn't very kind themselves. if you would look at another kids drawing and oc and go "wow thats amazing! you're so creative!", then you should regard what you made then with the same enthusiasm. put your own work on the fridge if nobody else did. anyways, ramble over. i'm very passionate about this subject because i lived it, and i deeply enjoy reclaiming what i was made to feel embarrassed of. so moon darkraven, demon wolf with an anime scythe and scene bangs and red eyes and neon colors that don't mix, i think you're doing great. i hope you're doing well, wherever you are now, and that so is the person who made you. happy early birthday to me and my special little gal

your art is so gorg how do u choose colors???

hehe thank u :3 Hard to explain i kinda just go with vibes n shit its fun for me n i just kinda have developed an eye for what i like but!! one thing that i do if my piece looks messy is i try to make the amount of distinct colors Smaller like i try to avoid having colors that r too close to each other in hue and value but not quite the same (though i think this only works for me cos i dont shade at all so keeping the palette as small as possible looks usually good)

Oh yeah speaking of value color values r SUPER important- I recall seeing a video or a post abt it years ago it changed the way i view colors completely. I couldnt explain it any better than someone else already would have but basically you should try taking a look at your piece in grayscale..! Colors with similar brightness etc will still have different values from each other(think bright neon yellow VS bright neon blue)

I also used to play around with premade palettes quite a bit, think 3-5 colors w good contrast (I think that helped me understand values too) (I dont rly use premade palettes anymore unless sometimes when im planning a game or a website layout)

ALSO my pieces recently r suuuper filtered i play around w brightness saturation ETC whatever ibispaint has however the base colors have to work imo u cant fix a "badly" colored piece with any filters its more of an afterthought (n i worked Specifically Without Any Of That for a while...! so suppose that helped too)

part 2 of this ask

📝Process for hurt mezu drawing 

here are the steps i dug out of an art server's wips channel lol

1. initial sketch

2. refine sketch. thats lines now babey. (omitted "the sleeves are KILLING ME WAHHH" stage that led to this)

3. grayscale, to use with gradient map (this is a more polished grayscale than I started with, i dug the working file out to get better images)

4. find nice gradient map (ended up being the same one I'd used for the piece i made right before. the goal is to make what's essentially an underpainting, not to color the whole thing with one map)

5. tweak and add colors that arent in the map with hard light layers & also sneak in a layer for special effect and atmospheric/ scenic perspective while you're at it

6. shading & more finishing effects. pretty much all of the shading was done with hard light layers! the only non-hard light layers I used for the shading were the particle effect layers & like one faint glow layer to fix some values. blood was done with linear burn

✨Inspiration for hurt mezu drawing 

the coloring method (grayscale -> saturated gradient map underpainting -> additive color adjustments) is something I tried out with the piece i'd made right before (the one where gozu is holding mezu from behind) & turned out really well, so I wanted to keep going with it

I also wanted to draw them angstily again because it'd been a very long time. like half a year at least. angsting them is very enriching for my soul so I try to do it regularly, this one was overdue

subconsciously referenced the poses in the initial sketch from this old thing (feb 2021). i love doing this. all my for-fun works recycle old elements in some way. my favorite game is "what old art reminds me of what im doing rn" im so good at digging stuff out of my archives for it. everyone loves when i do this

the gangi-kozou panel also

i went through a "shade in bold red-orange & dark blue with hard light layers" phase in like..april/may of 2021. i still like that stuff a lot so I wanted to revisit it

💚Things you like about hurt mezu drawing

repasting the link there but the sixth image in the process is essentially the final so you can just look at that

the colors are nice!! I'm real happy with using more saturated colors n I think the warm vs cool balance works really well

the sleeves (man being dramatic on the sand meme)

no like fr look at the 2021 piece's kimono sleeves vs the one I just did 2.5 years later. so satisfying

Gozu's expression came out nice

i think the claws and flash lines successfully added Emphasis to Gozu's expression & the piece overall

the poses … the drama …. the brush textures are also good

⏳Things you’d do differently with hurt mezu drawing

add in a liiitle more contrast...aka use a wider range of values. Some lighter lights and darker darks. I miss my 2021 hard neon lighting

a bit more distinction between the characters and the background also

the composition isn't bad but it could be better. Should've thought more about the way the eye would flow around the image in the drafting stage (solid b&w color block thumbnails are good for this)

Moar Sparkles. (I put a solid amount of large & low opacity light bubbles in there & some finer brighter dots especially around the claw stems, but I think more clusters of tiny bright lights on the characters themselves would've gone hard)

she has lightning powers. they're spontaneous and emotional, just like she is. hard to use except in the heat of the moment. she's also exceptionally fast, both personality wise and physically. that was what gave her the nickname celerity (celerity, noun: swiftness of movement).

she dresses in a lot of bright colors, reds and pinks specifically. they're sort of byproducts of her trying to find ways to get her fathers attention, neon and impossible not to look at so that it would make people actually look at her.

her lightning powers often manifest in her eyes, and in cases where she's very emotional she can spark around them. the adrenaline helps her forget in the moment, but the aftermath is some pretty prominent scarring around her eyes.

she also has a ton of nicks from training, both by herself and with her friends.

she's a very extroverted person, and not at all afraid of confrontation. not super smart, but very well versed in body language and she knows how to push someone's buttons. in a sort of strange juxtaposition, she also is very good at calming people down. both are traits that she learnt from spending time with fighters that work for her dad (who treated her better than he ever did lowkey).

about beans!

as said before beans is an ornate box turtle found in my back yard, he was taken in after being found being pestered by my dogs. he is okay and unhurt! i try hard to not mess with him much. i chose to keep beans because we believe he was domesticated in the past, he is not skittish around people and is okay with being held and pet. beans has a large terraium thats about three feet long! his substrate is phagnum moss coconut fiber and natural soil all mixed together!

:33< hi there! im in the process of building a wonderland for me and my developing tulpa and was hoping for some ideas for what we/I could do in it? it's pretty small atm, consisting of a small cave with a fairly thin but deep river and a bridge that I went in and built myself out of a log and some stones, surrounding it is a thick forest and a sort of barrier of fog further out. my tulpa's placeholder form is a cat for context, and I have a linktype of nepeta from homestuck if that helps at all

That sounds cool! A few things come to mind immediately with your environment being a cave, but we'll get into it in a second. Just wanted to let you know that I'm not sure what you mean by linktype of Nepeta (I know what Homestuck is, I just don't know too much about it or read it). Also, I'm assuming you can interact with the placeholder like it was a regular cat (Apologies we don't know too much about the tulpa community). Anyways let's get into it!

5 Things to do in your Innerworld

Water activities

The first thing that came to my mind was swimming, but any water activity could do to a certain extent (due to the river being rather thin). Depending on how deep the water is, you could splash around, paddle a bit, or even go completely underwater! Some other water activities include kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding, water balloon/ water gun fights, and even just relaxing and listening to the flow of the water. One last thing that comes to mind with the river is maybe a little raft that you can take out just to relax in! It could be something you can stand on and walk around on, or it could be something you just chill in. I immediately thought of the kiddie pool idea and while looking for it found a cool floaty trampoline (see images below). The only issue with these water ideas is that most cats don't like water, but test it out! See how it works. Some of these ideas can also be done alone if it doesn't work out.

2. Plants

Okay so this might be because I have this huge thing with mushrooms, but I immediately imagined some cool glowy mushrooms in the cave while you were describing it. Like neon colored, growing out of the ground and walls, they could even be bouncy! Just a cool idea. You could also do some regular plants such as vines hanging from the ceiling, moss on some parts of the ground, bushes growing outside the cave, etc. Just some greenery to fill some empty space!

3. Picnic

Have a picnic! This could be done alone or with the tulpa/ placeholder. Imagine that! Bonding by preparing a meal together (or with each other as company), and enjoying it together! You could even make eachother a meal to get to know what the other wants to try/ likes!

4. Explore

Even if you've seen most of it already! Look in an area you haven't been very often! Since you said your innerworld is a cave, you could try rock-climbing! You could also create a whole new area if you please! This would be a nice thing to do together, create an area to reflect on and build upon your upcoming relationship!

5. Get Comfortable

Enjoy a simple activity such as reading, playing a board game, or just really taking in your surroundings. Find a nice comfortable place to be, and just get comfortable! Unwind, just relax and enjoy your hard work and look at how far you've come. Such a small but equally fulfilling task.

hmm you see most of the time i am in a sweatshirt and sweatpants because i like to be cozy !! (& my room is always freezing) but my favorite outfit of im actually “trying” per se, would have to be a big sweater (i’m obsessed w the brianna sweater from brandy melville i hate to say i have almost every color) and flared yoga pants with converse! orr since it’s been warmer out, i love a baby tee and shorts/jeans with white sneakers and crew socks <3 simple but effective haha

12. iced drinks or hot drinks?

you’re really gonna make me choose between the two. this is hard… because i love iced drinks those have always been my go to, but this year i’ve fallen in love with cappuccinos & hot coffee (which i never used to drink). and let’s not forget about some hot cocoa or warm tea, they have my heart. but since og has always been an iced coffee/cold brew, imma go with iced drinks

the way that was such a simple question but so difficult for me. there is no reason for drinks to be that important to me

13. bright colors or neutral tones?

hmmm again a hard one. i think i’m just bad at making decisions let’s be real. is there a choice for pastels? because i love color but usually more of softer tone than a bright neon. like sage green or periwinkle or a pale yellow or a lavender, etc etc. just so pretty <3

irl: tried doing my roots & retouching my pink myself this week. don't do this -_-;; it was more expensive than just going to the school where i usually do it!! and i dont like it! im neon. aaaaa!!! i wanted to try giving myself a paler/cooler color bc the school refuses to use purple to cancel out the yellow @w@ anyway, i'm tempted to go cool blonde next while im bleached, hmm!

doing a litle xmas shopping here and there. the kitties got a window perch, they're loving watching the birds next door. its so hard to get out of bed these days though, its too cold! im cranky >:(

Who would you pick for a 2000’s fashion skinline?

HOOO hard question if i try to evade fave characters and also Riot beloved cashgrabs but i will be honest. Im gonna use a lot of pinterest images for this haha.

I wouldnt close it only to 2000s fashion BUT i think it could be a skinline with a lot of reference's that would make people go Oooh i catch that one!

Like for example imagine Ahri with the iconic 'A little bit dramatic' Regina George's T-Shirt with that preppy ''girly'' pop style. But i wouldnt give Ahri this kind of skin. In general id love for this skinline to actually do a 180º spin in a lot of characters or at least give them something a bit more distinctive. I feel they should feel very exaggerated in order to be iconic. Cartoony, even. For a preppy girlie pop style i'd think about Irelia, for example? We often see her in the exact same dress type in all her skins, even legendary ones...

Bratz should be a huge inspiration in this skinline, imo... I'd love to see Irelia in something like this. Hearthrob Caitlyn is something above this lines but they didnt give her something like jeans wich i think its very iconic. It would break original Irelia from the same dress-leggins thingy and her very traditional ionian clothing. Riot is always nonsensical so i wouldnt mind giving Irelia some platforms or even heels. Give her random items like those fluffly keychains in the pockets or cute patches...

I think Gwen would fit also into this girlie pop category. They already gave her this emo-goth look in Soul Fighter and Cafe cuties exploits the whole dress thing perfectly, Space Groove also does incredible in 70's-80's fashion. She lacks a skin that is colofur but just focused on a specific palette.

I believe something like this could fit her. You give her a break of the dress, but she can still look iconic! Imagine her with normals scissors hanging around with something like this! Give her a cute purse that flip flops around while she jumps and walks and its LOVELY you can even risk giving her an animal pattern...

I'd also loooooove Kalista with this type of style... Shes always gloomy and phamton-likely on her skins. She deserves a skin with this kind of aesthetic that is eye candy.

Something more 'girly' like on her would look amazing and i think giving her an alive appereance. She deserves pink and angst. Actually that one 'A little bit dramatic' shirt could be a clash between her personality and oath as a character that can be a funny joke inside the skin.

Id love to see Soraka in this type of outfit.

More earthy, green-brownish and with that type of elements cause its fitting for her character BUT would be a change in outfit cause riot almost always gives her a dress or a skirt. We stan soraka in jeans with her good ol' goat legs.

Ooooohhh i love this this is so fucking iconic... I'd love to see Tristana on this one but i know its one of my fave champs and also an often riot cashgrab so... I think this actually would be super fitting with Sivir! Or Zyra, giving her a more vibrant summer color theme...

Everytime i see Avril i SCREAM. You know what? Zoe deserves this type of skin. Not a fully black one but give her black with a very neon pink or another color. A type of 'Its not a phase mom!' skin.

YOU KNOW WHAT id love to see emo nidalee with a colorful and black transformation into feline. I think it would be nice! Also a big reference to the whole emo or scene fursona epoque. Or Orianna! Actually Orianna can also fit on the preppy girly pop. Shes amazing always.

For last picks... I have already betrayed my bow not to mention popular champions and cashgrabs. So i will break the bow all the way down. I would become CRAZY for a scene Pyke. A full black and white gloomy outfit but with rainbow elements like a lot of bracelets, charms, a rainbow belt... i would get rabies. I feel like Empyrean Pyke wasnt colorful enough, this would be completely rainbow elements that stand out from the design to remember you this dude loves bracelets.

Also a scene Vex would be AWESOME imagine her also with a lot of rainbow bracelets but very gloomy and Shadow is bursting in rainbow colors with faces like '>w<' or ':3' it would be great.

Its a hard life having yellow as a favorite color bc its impossible to find something in the right yellow unless its mustard or neon, neither of which im looking for. Like, if i want a light airy yellow is it lemon? Is it tulip? Is it buttercup? Is it snap dragon? Is it pale? What tf do i use to search for this piece of shit specific color????

Case in point: the fucking god damn dress im trying to make.

Ive hemmed (no pun intended) and hawed about this and looked at fabric online for hours and visited multiple fabric stores (which is a feat in itself bc joanns is the Starbucks of the retail fabric world unfortunately), and ordered samples and STILL. STILL!!!!! Still the satin i got is not in the right color family to go with the voile and organza i ordered.

The satin looked soft and fairly light yellow at the store and even in my home lighting, but its so warm toned that against the others it looks orange. Like instead of sunflower its peach and i am so annoyed. Its bc the organza is such a "bright" yellow that when bunched up it almost trends towards green. Like, it doesnt look green but if i was mixing paints id definitely need to include a touch of blue to match this thing. So then when overlapped its just NOT right.

Soooo that means i need to go back to goddamn joanns with my goddamn coupons and buy more goddamn satin. Im going to get their basic bitch (read: casa collection) white. Just standard ass white. Then the yellow sheers can be whatever tf shade theyre going to be and i can actually finally for realsies this time put some of this bitch together.

Not that anyone actually cares but here is what im talking about.

So in exhibit A you can see that it looks like ive put some unripe lemon color over kraft mac n cheese. This is not the vibe im going for. In exhibit B i took some white cotton I had laying around and shoved it under there, and while its clearly not a 100% yellow dress, it sure af looks a lot better and achieves more the effect i was going for.

Anyway thats it. Rant over. Thats how my weekend has been going.

searching for a forever island is hard i feel like i restart no matter what even when looking for super specific features but i guess here’s my 568th attempt at trying. it’s resident services, no matter what i just can’t figure out how to decorate around it. i never know what to put in front of it when it’s too far from the airport but anytime i get a map where it’s a lot closer it’s always annoyingly off centered. my list of demands is way too long to be reasonable and i know i should be more flexible or i’ll spend more time resetting than actually playing the game but i’m just looking for the map that as soon as i land on it i can be like “this is the one”. here’s hoping this list manifests the perfect map into my game.

what i’m looking for in, order of importance:

-east river map. i’m not even going to bother to look at any double south or west river ones. i don’t think i could make the tiny strips of land work on the maps with two south rivers and the island i had the longest had a west river map so i’d like something different from anything that map had. i also want a functional river too so i don’t just want to terroform it out and the layout im thinking of works best with an east river

-long pier and big beaches. since my island is fishing/ocean town themed. i wont mind rocks but i’d like to avoid the small ones. any island i’ve had with narrow beaches or beaches with too many small rocks in the way have always bothered me immensely when im running around and it’s probably reason #2 for half my resets. the worst i’ve had were beaches that weren’t even big enough for me to fit the buildings on. so i definitely want big spacious beaches (which will be hard to gauge from the initial map but i’ll reset day 2 if the beaches suck)

- blue or yellow airport. these are the only colors i think will work with the entrance i have in mind and the overall theme. i really wish the green wasn’t so neon because a nice muted green would have been my favorite

-secret beach on the MOST outer edge of the map (square 2). i’ll settle if it’s the one that’s in between the most outter edge and the middle (so basically in square 3 of the map) but i really don’t want one that’s right in the middle.

-airport located in square 5/6 so i can get a bigger beach on the left side of it. this is especially important if i decide on a map with the resident services more far away so i can make an entrance with stairs like i’ve seen other islands do.

-resident services….a decent location. i’m not even sure what i’m looking for since i’ve tried far away and close, in the middle and more off to the side, and i’m not happy with any of them. it’s location is always what makes me want to restart the most….so you’d think it would be my number one priority to find the perfect one to stop the cause for half my resets but when i have no idea what i want, i feel like i should be more flexible with this and if everything else about the map is perfect, i can work around it’s location wherever it ends up. at the very least i’d like it closer to the right than the middle and if it’s in site of the airport than i’d like it close enough to make a road without any weird gaps or it’s off centeredness bothering me, or far enough i can make a grander entrance with stairs like typical city core islands have.

-the biggest peninsula and i’d like it lower on the map on any side. i don’t really care about the peninsula and it’ll most likely be one of the last places i decorate so i won’t be too picky. i’d just rather it not be near the top because i hate the awkward small space it leaves between it and the upper beach rocks. i think the big one would be nice too since it fits a building and i’ve never had it before but as long as it’s not at the top i dont really care

-non pear fruit lol i wont reset just for the fruit because i think it’s easy to replace the fruits and forget about it. but i still have a tiny preference for it to be any fruit but pears. i used to think it was completely ridiculous when people reset just for the fruit and i still kind of do but i think i get it more now. in the early stages of the game you have to give your lazy villager furniture with your native fruit, wilbur references your native fruit when you go on villager hunts, villagers will walk around with juice of your native fruit, and it does get tiring seeing a fruit you think is ugly as your only fruit tree at the beginning of the game. 

-i definitely won’t reset for this and it’s not a priority at all but it would be nice to have the sailor outfit be the outfit i start off with when i finally find the map because it’s my favorite. i don’t care what outfit i start off in but if i manage to find The Island with it it’ll be extra special

well here’s hoping i find something and can finally play like normal without ANY feeling of wanting to restart! i’m honestly starting to warm up to this map since the resident services is so off to the side i feel like i wouldn’t have to worry about decorating the left side i can just stick a straight road and be done but again i’m trying not to be too picky about a specific map because anytime i am, it’s never the perfect map i wanted it to be anyway
