the way everyone has a dislike in their profile that actually says something integral about their character. lu guang doesn't like plans getting messed up, cheng xiaoshi dislikes loneliness, xia fei with owing favors, vein with lying...
and then you have liu xiao, who dislikes... cilantro. and fish mint.
(shakes fist) (putting him in a glass jar and shaking vigorously) learn to be vulnerable!! tell me something about yourself!! I guess him liking movies lines up with the theater metaphors, and there's him liking chess, but that. doesn't count methinks
#mine musings#liveblogging link click#link click#okay the metaphor thing works out a little bit in that. it's on brand#70% of what we know about liu xiao are implicitly gained from other characters#e.g. how xf and ltc relate to him. how the liu family talk about him. how he thematically juxtaposes other characters like lg and cxs#the 30% are the things we know explicitly from him e.g. he's a rich kid with a sports car. he can hear heartbeats#he wants to merge the parallel lines or whatever#the rest are inferences like. oh okay no parallel lines? he doesn't like uncertainties i guess#the way he talks about friendship with xf and ltc? he values a transactional view of relationships#(maybe because transactions imply a certain level of certainty?)#he's the current favored child of the liu family but he wasn't before#he's a “manipulator” but really that's mostly from marketing stuff and implications from canon#like. we know a lot about him but at the same time we don't#the way we just know his uncertainty -> certainty thing contrasts with lg's certainty -> uncertainty thing#we know his heartbeat hearing implies he knows everyone's level of sincerity and both xf and cxs exist as foils to that#the hunter thing with ltc. why does he believe that?#lots of “bringing the darkness” lines in three of his songs for some reason#so like. i can't say that the show hasn't told us anything. they have but in circular ways#we don't know much about him from him directly but we do. know stuff. kinda. do you get me#all i want from YE6 is veinxiao friendship being shown so i can have new dimensions on how lx views friendship#and maybe like. a hint at what his motivations are. like why is he Like That#<- again funnier if he's just Like That from the womb. even if the liu family isn't fucked up he's still Like That#but that's not this show's style so probably not#lx notes#like the INSISTENCE of writing lx as a point of comparison or through other people's perspectives and very rarely from his own#is fascinating to me

with the way baby all for one is positioned here close to his mother's hand, do you think his mother was trying to reach out to him to comfort him shortly before she died?
I don't think he crawled to her either because he's laying on his back...
#sometimes I wonder if hori is trying to show us implicitly that she did care for him#because also remember how her quirk still worked after all the other quirks stopped working when the vestiges rebelled#or if I'm reading too much into it#I guess it's up to how you interpret it#maybe I'm doubting myself too much idk 😂#hnnghhhh this is making me sadder than I already feel it's supposed to be my bday I should stop thinking about this dhdidj#all for one

I didn't find "Errand of Mercy" super interesting the first time around (I feel like the Federation-Klingon comparison and its consequences are less forced and more nuanced in "Day of the Dove" and I don't like the easy out of the Organian treaty). But there are a few !!!!! moments that stick with me.
Of course, there's Kirk nearly mauling a Klingon (while outnumbered by the other Klingons) for presuming to ... shove Spock, and when Spock says he thought Kirk might actually do it, Kirk admitting he might have if Spock hadn't stopped him. There's the fun date night with explosives and Renfaire outfits. But there's also this absolutely "uhhhh what" interaction between Kor (the Klingon commander), the Organian councilor Ayelborne, Kirk, and Spock:
KOR: I am Kor, military governor of Organia. [Looks at Kirk] Who are you? AYELBORNE: He is Baroner, one of our leading citizens. KOR: And he has no tongue? KIRK: I have a tongue. KOR: Good. You will be taught how to use it. Where is your smile? KIRK: My what? KOR: The stupid, idiotic smile everyone else seems to be wearing. [Noticing Spock] A Vulcan. Do you also have a tongue? SPOCK: I am Spock, a dealer in kevas and trillium. KOR: You do not look like a storekeeper. Take this man. Vulcans are members of the Federation. He may be a spy. KIRK: He's no spy. KOR: Well, have we a ram among the sheep? Do you object to us taking him? KIRK: He's done nothing. Nothing at all. KOR: Coming from an Organian, yours is practically an act of rebellion. Very good. [To the Council] So you welcome me. [To Kirk] Do you also welcome me? KIRK: You're here. There's nothing I can do about it. KOR: Good honest hatred. Very refreshing. However, it makes no difference whether you welcome me or not. I am here and will stay. You are now subjects of the Klingon Empire. You'll find there are many rules and regulations. They will be posted. Violation of the smallest of them will be punished by death. AYELBORNE: We shall obey your regulations, Commander. KOR: You disapprove, Baroner. KIRK: You need my approval? KOR: I need your obedience. Nothing more. Will I have it? KIRK: You seem to be in command. KOR: Yes. I am. I shall need a representative from among you. Liaison between the forces of the occupation and the civil population. Smile and smile. I don't trust men who smile too much. You, Baroner, you're the man. KIRK: Me? I don't want the job. KOR: Have I asked whether or not you want it? We Klingons have a reputation for ruthlessness. You will find that it is deserved.
So, uh...

Sub Leorio is just so rewarding and I am the only one who sees the vision. The man cares so much for everyone. His whole life is spend taking care of everyone else. I think in his alone time he just wants to do zero work and have someone take care of him. Also he’s impulsive and brash but pretty smart, so why does he lose EVERY argument with Kurapika? (Answer: losing is more fun).
#is this because I want to peg him?#no. obviously this is character analysis#duh#(yes)#hxh#hunter x hunter#shitpost#leorio paladiknight#shitposting hours#leopika#I guess#implicitly and given the nature of this tumblr account#love being the only leopika fan down bad for Leorio with no attraction to kurapika

the novelization of dominion has so many details that they cut from the final script and it makes me so mad because they manage to give a ton of extra weight to their storyline

maisie spends a lot of her days tending to their off the grid house. also… do they have goats????

this implies they’re not really using wifi for things like netflix. instead, they’re buying DVDs/VHS tapes and watching TV the old fashioned way.

maisie knows how to cook!

this confirms that they KNOW blue lives in the woods near them. they haven’t just suddenly found out about her at the start of the movie. the only thing they didn’t know about was beta’s existence

maisie was calling them mom and dad until very recently within the timeline. this gives the impression that maisie has only been acting like this for a few months now. before that, they all had a strong relationship

maisie seems to have willingly went with her kidnappers because she was under the impression that they were government officials with some kind of legal jurisdiction she had to comply with.

there’s an entirely new moment added where maisie threatens to run after realizing these are just poachers. she does NOT want to be here at all and is very aware of how much danger she’s in. it’s in this moment that she first starts plotting her escape

initially, claire is the one in the passenger seat and owen is in the back seat. it’s an active choice made by owen to give her the only parachute.

in that scene where they release beta, they’re not weirdly 3 feet away from each other and are actually touching
and there’s a ton of other little quips too that don’t add anything but I strongly believe should’ve been kept in too. i imagine most of this was purely cut for time to which I say… you should’ve just split it in half. it would’ve been a much much better received film if you SPLIT IT IN HALF
#jurassic world#dearing grady family#claire dearing#owen grady#maisie lockwood#I guess this kind of all counts as clawen or claire x owen#implicitly but like barely????#for organizations sake I shall put it

'you're platonically married and you write about platonic sex, how can you possibly care about the distinction between platonic and romantic, what's the point, isn't that silly' is a late but strong contender for most mystifying and vaguely hurtful thing someone has said to me in 2024
#gav gab#like i really dont know what to do with this one lmao#like did we have to implicitly call the nature of my marriage into question about it#dont care for that!#'oh you're married? well NOW what's the point in differentiating at ALL'#i- pardon me?#fascinated with this being the breaking point#like i guess i'd have been allowed to care about platonic relationships#and SPECIFICALLY AND EXPLICITLY PLATONIC relationships if i. hadn't gotten married?#if i didn't write about friends fucking?#wha'ts the implication here#no go on please tell me. WITHOUT implying it's impossible to enjoy physical or emotional intimacy#above a certain threshold without romance#or else the point of even having the concepts of romantic and platonic are meaningless#i feel like id be more offended/hurt by that whole thing if i could like#even understand it lmao

Call me cynical, but please remember that your employer is not your friend.
You may have friends at work, but your employer, the entity, is not your friend. Your relationship is, at best, transactional; at worst, it's predatory and exploitive. Your job serves profit and will always prioritize that over everything else.
No job should be treated as the exception to this. That's not to say that no job will ever treat you well; it is only to say that, if you're convinced that Your Job Is Different, you're already in a position to be exploited.
Stay wary. Know your rights as a worker. Keep your mouth shut about most things. Be grateful for a job that doesn't exploit you but never get too comfortable, no matter how many employee resource groups, mental health days, catered lunches or anything else they provide. Your employer is not your friend.
#yes i did get burned by my employer again today thanks for asking#it's not the first time and I'm sure it won't be the last#but also I'm talking to someone close to me who trusts their employer implicitly#and I'm like IDK how to tell you this but things are going to get predatory fast unless you wise up a bit#as they say in Fiddler on the roof: you can never trust an employer#labor rights#or something I guess#your employer is not your friend#also I'm begging people to go about disability accommodations the right way#don't tell your boss. only tell hr#read the JAN website#etc#I've seen good people legally lose their jobs over a disability because they didn't go about it the right way#don't be that person#stay safe and employed out there y'all

Full shade it's actually bananas that Rick told Carol he didn't trust Judith to be safe with her living at the prison with them.
Actual bullshit tbh. Where the fuck were you when carol was carrying your baby around the prison all day long, making her a cot out of a cardboard box, and making sure she was fed? How about when she agonised over Lori's upcoming labour and used walkers to practise doing c sections so that she'd be able to ensure Judith was delivered safe into this world? Idk but you WEREN'T WITH JUDITH (or lori).
Literally Karen and David WHO? She did that shit to protect the people she loved and that included Judith.
You literally left HER child alone and she died. Everything carol does after that is because of that. Her literal whole entire survival hinged on keeping the people that she loved alive. She wasn't gonna do shit to hurt Judith. There are 4839397 other people she'd have sacrificed to keep Judith alive. Two of them were karen and david.
Absolutely insane behaviour to accuse her of being dangerous to his children. The actual fuck?
In retrospect, he owed her a bigger apology.

#I guess I decided to just write this post to rick as if hes gonna read it lol#also remember when daryl accepted carol unconditionally and implicitly I miss it#I was going to say no shade but I changed my mind#full shade#twd rewatch#carol peletier

it's kind of funny that I finished my Naruto read going "oh my god....Naruto and Sasuke are in love....." but it turns out I don't really like most SNS fan content and all my fic reading time is spent on epics about Sakura getting good at punching stuff or Itachi being a little weirdo
#I think the problem with a lot of sns fanwork is that it repeats the big issue in canon (just explicitly romantic):#naruto's feelings for sasuke Fix Everything#and that is simply not satisfying#girl what about The Problems of the ninja world#which sasuke's shippuden plot pretty much revolves around#whereas sakura fic generally addresses The Problems implicitly or explicitly in how she's treated as a non-clan ninja#and itachi of course canonically is like 'well there's no way to fix The Problems best I got is manipulating sasuke'#I should clean the bathroom instead of thinking about naruto#I should.#I'm reading naruto I guess

Okay also, I remarked on Billie Hindle's performance but I cannot overstate how much she made me feel for Alice in this.
I haven't liked Alice as much as I could have, mostly because I feel like she hasn't been consistently tied to an interesting plot thread and she tends to make the action slam to a halt. But I've always thought she has a sparkling personality and she gets so many of the best lines.
But what really sold me on her this episode is her tone of voice when she gets Sam's voicemail. It's such a contrast from Celia's too! Celia saw Sam collapsed and sounded pretty comparatively collected. Alice gets a voicemail from Sam saying he's heading into danger, and she sounds like she's ready to freak out.
Alice loves Sam. She's annoying, she's a womanchild, she doesn't know how to handle it except by constantly negging him (which gets really depressing to listen to, especially early on when Sam was only nice to her and it came off a bit like bullying.) But she really, really loves him. The thought of him being in any danger absolutely wrecks her in a way it doesn't for Celia. It might not be romantic love, but considering they dated before... I am pretty sure that at least some of it is lingering romantic feelings.
And it's heartbreaking, because he doesn't love her back as much, and probably never will. Alice is the Eponine of this situation.
#tmagp opinions#I guess Sam might turn to her again if Celia dies or becomes evil#but otherwise... yeah Sam/Celia is boring but it makes too much sense#of course Sam is going to go for the (implicitly) hot new girl who validates his interests#over his ex who constantly mocks him#even if that ex is right sometimes
