Everyone: So when is Eddie gonna admit he is in love with Buck?
Tim Minear: He already did. Not because he wanted to express himself, but because he thinks Buck needed to know his own worth in Eddie's eyes.

Seriously this explains that scene so much:
"My attorney said you could refuse."
".... but you know I wouldn't".
"I know you wouldn't."
ALWAYS GOING BACK TO "TWO CUT LINES" and the whole team understanding that Buck would prefer to die with Eddie than be left behind having failed to save someone. When he saw Buck's face after he got out, Eddie knew it too.
To Buck, wanting to die for someone is the only way he knows how to love them, because he thinks that is all he has to give, to show he should be kept around (as a body, as spare parts;) His parents taught him this, even though he didn't know about Daniel. Buck intrinsically knows what it is to exist having "failed" to save someone and it is his deepest fear to have that happen again.
Eddie saw that Buck would rather die with him than fail at dying for him and it fucking terrified him and also it terrified him to think that Buck and Christopher, two halves of his heart, could be split up if his stopped beating and so he changed his will, legally forced Buck to stay and he made sure that they can never have two cut lines but now Buck has to love Chris and Eddie by staying for them instead of destroying himself for them...

*text messages* Chris: Have you managed to convince dad to get rid of that monstrosity on his face? Buck: Chris, I thought we agreed to let your dad do whatever he wants with his facial hair. Chris: Well now I'm not agreeing. Tell him to get rid of it or I'm not coming back. Buck: Christopher Ramon Felipe Diaz. We do not do ultimatums in this household. Chris: Ughhhh, fine! At least tell him to stop posting moustache care videos on TikTok. It's getting embarrassing. Buck: He's doing what now?!?!

I have so much warm fuzzy feelings from this post
I am fully convinced that Eddie started to fall in love with Buck the moment he introduced him to Carla.
Buck didn't tell Eddie how to raise his son. He didn't tell him he was doing it wrong. He listened when Eddie said the paperwork and red tape were so hard to navigate and he found a solution.
Eddie finally had someone who had his back. Someone who wanted to help but didn't do it for him. Someone who could see how hard Eddie was trying and that he just needed a little support.
That was the moment Eddie started to fall in love, he just didn't know what that feelings was because it wasn't the rush of teenage love - it was so different.

okay so it wouldn't be like a DIRECT au of it, just like a heavily inspired by, but BUDDIE TWISTER/TWISTERS AU:
so. buck is a storm chaser. he's got his team, him and a few others, and then abby, his girlfriend. they're working on trying to find a way to tame a twister — to get it to stop before it can start enough to do it's damage. they think they've finally got it, only when they go to put it into test there is a horrible accident and buck loses the whole team, except abby. the two of them are the only survivors. and it is DEVASTATING, but buck is like at least abby and i can lean on each other in our grief, we can get through this together. only abby quits. she quits stormchasing then and there and she leaves, just disappears, leaving buck alone with his grief. (if we want to be Extra Angsty, perhaps she even leaves with some sort of comment that implies she blames him for what happened).
so buck quits too — only it's not a permanent quit, of course. his sisters boyfriend, chimney, is a stormchaser, and when bucks home visiting maddie one day, chimney is there and he's talking about his teams plan (maybe his team was also after the same sort of twister tamer thing — maybe even based off of bucks teams initial research) and he's asking buck about it and buck hasn't thought about this stuff in a while (lies; he's thought about that incident every day since it happened.) but like enough time has passed that talking about it with someone else who's enthusiastic about the research rather than just interested in the tragedy of it all, starts to excite him a little too. and chimney tells him he should come with, when he and his team head out in a week. and after some Thinking and some encouragement from maddie, buck agrees and goes with chimney.
and so buck joins the 118 — consisting of chimney and hen and bobby (and maybe ravi too bc i love ravi okay). and it's good. they're a great team, brilliant, and they're all about helping people too. like, yes, their research is important to them, and they're fighting tooth and nail to achieve their goal, but they're put that on pause if there's even a chance for them to go help people evacuate or find shelter or clean up in the aftermath — and that's something buck really loves about the team. bc that's all he wants to do, help people. so buck fits right in with them and it's. it's fun, again. he did miss this.
and, of course, the 118 has a riiiiiival team — another group of stormchasers who are ALSO trying to find a way to stop the twisters before they can do their damage. they're both close, so it's kind of like a competition between them, which team will capture success first? but this team (not really sure who it'll consist of yet) but im undecided on if eddie would be the leader of the group or if he's just a team member, but. eddie dia,z with his sweeeeet texan twang, and his big cowboy hat and his flashy belt buckles and his charm, he's there. and their team is popular in the stormchasing world, and everyone's eyes are on them too.
but like it's always those two — the 118 and eddies team — at the forefront of it all, they're always chasing the same storms.
and both teams are on the cusp of a big storm, but the 118 catch wind that there's a small town in the path of this one, and they decide instead of following the twisters they're going to head to the town to help the people there. and they end up veering off the path and eddie notices and then HE finds out about the town and he tells his team they need to go help too but his team is like dude NO we gotta get to the twister, the 118 are gone so this is our chance to be the ones to test our tornado tamer solution, WE could beat them. and like eddies team has clearly lost the whole point of all of this — to save people. but HE hasn't, so he goes rogue and he heads to the town instead, where he finds the 118 and they're a bit wary of him at first bc it feels out of character for someone from his team to be here doing this rather than chasing the storm, but at this point im thinking buck and eddie have already had some conversations (MAYBE eddie has actually saved buck once already too so like that trust between them is already built) and buck just immediately starts shouting instructions and eddie falls into line with them and the two of them work flawlessly together and the rest of the 118 is like yeah okay he's good people and they welcome him in too.
and maybe eddies team runs into trouble too and eddie catches wind of it (he's still connected to their radios maybe?) and he's like fuck we gotta help them too so he and buck break off to go help that team (bc even if they're the 118's rivals and even if they're on the verge of the breakthrough the 118 has been chasing too, that doesn't matter rn. what matters is saving as many lives as possible) so the two of them break off to go help and they DO but eddies teams solution DOESNT work, but they took the 118's truck that was loaded with THEIR solution so buck and eddie let that loose and THAT DOES end up working and so buck and eddie save eddies team AND the town AND each other.
and, OF COURSE, through all of that buck and eddie fall in love, and in the end eddie ends up joining buck's team, and they chase storms together, and when they have bad days, when they have close calls, they're there for each other and they're not going anywhere, and they ALWAYS have each other's backs <3

chris pov | gen | 4.1k words
Christopher gets excited when he meets Dad’s new friend; Tommy. Carla picked him up from school, and just dropped him off on their foyer, already rushing to her next appointment. She kissed his head and said, “Say hi to your Dad for me. Have to go.” So, he says hi to his Dad as he keeps his eyes wary on the new person sitting at their breakfast table, waiting for him to introduce them. Or: Christopher's POV on everything that has been happening with Buck, Eddie, and Tommy. And Buck coming out to him.

Yes to all of the above especially will mention please oh please
I've just had a thought...
Does Eddie know how Buck reacted to him being buried alive??
What if the next episode gives Buck and Eddie PTSD for different reasons (ie - Eddie being buried alive/ Buck terrified and out of his mind), and they end up talking about it??
Oliver said there's a beautiful scene between them at the end of the next episode... Could be about them finally talking about their traumas together and maybe a will mention???

I love the fact that Eddie low-key taunted Chimney with a crow halloween decoration. An example of how the writers wanna remind us that no, as a matter or fact they have not forgotten all the things they've aired in previous seasons

You ever think about how at the end of season 6, we find out that Shannon and Eddie are actually the same age and since that’s the case, the Eddie and Buck are the same age? Because that is absolutely crazy to me

This is so beautiful 😭
The thing is, yes, Eddie can have more than one friend. Yes, he has a lot of friends. Buck definitely knows that - he was there at the poker table and at the Dispatch building and at the Diaz house. He knows about Eddie's friends. It wasn't about him having other friends.
It was about noticing the helicopter rides and the Chevelle fixing and the sparring. It was about Buck organizing a hot air balloon ride for Abby and Eddie meeting Marisol through a house fixing and Buck meeting Eddie at the gym. It was Buck recognizing that it could mean more and he had done this and Eddie had done this. It was about 'Tommy's gay?' and 'It didn't come up when you guys were hanging out?'. It was about 'he doesn't volunteer it but he doesn't hide it'. It was about Tommy having met Chris after just 2 weeks of knowing Eddie.
Tommy doesn't know this because he doesn't know that this is basically Buck's life. So he says Eddie can have other friends, it's not only one person allowed, and it's fair.
But he doesn't have the full context and there's something to say that Eddie proves this - by suggesting a couple's costume for him and Buck for the bachelor's, by being surprised about Tommy being gay and saying it wouldn't have mattered anyway but not saying a word directly about Buck liking men, by every single thing that happened in 7x09 and 7x10 where Buck was in the house and in the kitchen and in the room.
Yes, Eddie can have other friends. But is Buck like other friends or any friend? Yes, Buck was jealous. But did he see friendship or something he hasn't understood about him and Eddie yet? Yes, Buck can't be replaced. But have they talked about why that has nothing to do with more friends and everything to do with them blurring the lines since the beginning?

this divorce arc parallels so nicely to the s3a arc where eddie goes, you’re making it about you again. eddie diaz will never be a buck enabler or let him steamroll him. eddie loves that man to pieces, through his crazy (“if you need to be pissed at me to make it easier on you then be pissed at me”). he will always tell buck, unafraid to be direct and stern about it, how it is: christopher comes first, buck is acting out.
but what really stands out to me is how eddie says to him, “if you’re gonna make me choose between you or me son, you will lose every time.” and buck never asks this of eddie. buck is upset eddie is moving, but he never asks him to stay. he understands. (“i hate it, but i’m letting you go.”) but this dialogue says more about eddie than it does about buck to me, and highlights that actually, eddie is the one that feels like this feels like this is choice between buck and chris, that he’s being put in a tough position, that he doesn’t like it any more than buck does! but it is how it is. and that’s beautiful to me because it implies in and of itself just how important buck means to him

know that I'm with you the only way that I can be
eddie & bobby, implied pre-buddie | gap filler in the middle of LabRats | rated: G | 2K
Eddie accepts the call and hadn’t even looked at the name. It’s not Buck. And it’s not a FaceTime. Which is surprising on both counts but not unwelcome. It hits him with a rolling wave of homesickness though. Still. Eddie smiles when he answers. “Hey, Cap. How’s it going?”
“Hi, Eddie,” Bobby says. “It’s good to hear your voice. It’s not the same without you around.”
God, he feels that. Nothing is the same without his team. But Eddie has Chris. They’ll be okay. “I miss you, too. Sorry, I should have called you sooner. I’ve been thinking about you though.”
“Me too. And don’t worry about that. How is Christopher? Are you two settling in out there?”
Eddie glances in the direction of the living area where Chris is on the sofa playing a solitary round of racing against the game. Where Eddie’s son is happy and they’re back together, Diaz boys against the world, and Eddie couldn’t ask for anything else.
Maybe he can ask for a few things. Like something to fill the Buck shaped hole in his chest. But he’s not pushing his luck here.
He still has Buck. They talk all the time. Every day.
“Chris is good. Moved back in with me a couple weeks ago. We’re so much better. It’s great. What about you? How’s Athena? And the kids?” Eddie should really call May and see how school is going. She texts him silly memes and instagram posts every so often, and sometimes makes fun of whatever Josh has posted about Glee this week. As she should.
“That’s great, Eddie. I’m so glad you two worked it out.”
“Me too, Cap. Holy hell, me too.” Eddie waits for a moment, hoping Bobby will answer his questions.
He doesn’t.
Maybe Eddie should ask again?
Or maybe something happened?
“Is there,” Eddie starts and how does he even ask. What does he ask? “A reason you called me?”
“Yes,” Bobby answers.
Eddie checks the time and the calendar, and A Shift should be off the clock by now. Should be. But they were on the last shift. They were on not long ago.
“Did something happen?” Eddie asks lightly, trying not to worry. He doesn’t need to worry. He’s not worrying.
“Yes.”
Fuck. Okay. So. He’s worrying. Eddie’s heart immediately pounds. There could be lightning or earthquakes or psychotic kidnappers, and any one of his team could be in trouble.
“Is it,” Eddie swallows hard and has to know. He can know. He can take it. God, please don’t let it be Buck. Please don’t let something happen to Eddie’s partner because Eddie left him and isn’t there. “Is it Buck? Did something happen with Buck?”
“No. Not exactly. He’s safe as far as I know. He’s been with Athena.”
Okay. Then Eddie can breathe a little again. “Who then? What happened?”
There’s a pause before Bobby answers and Eddie can hear something in the background of the call but has no idea what it could even be. “I can’t give you many details. I don’t have much time.”
He doesn’t have much time. Bobby. Doesn’t have much time.
Bobby doesn’t have much time.

Ranty Bitch Vol. 4: Buck and Eddie's Friendship
started my own post instead of adding on bc WOW this got long, but seeing sadieb798 's addition to this post reminded me that YEAH, buck HAS bent over backwards for eddie and chris. like friendships aren't transactional or they shouldn't be but if you tally things up its very uneven and that's a glaring red flag.
buck has:
-given up endless days off to babysit christopher so eddie could go out on dates, work without buck, go out with other friends, and cheat on his girlfriend!
-he also got voluntold to babysit when carla wasn't available when he was recovering from the embolism and severely depressed! eddie said buck being off work - the thing he was so depressed about he literally wasn't getting out of bed - was CONVENIENT for EDDIE.
at the time it was supposed to be a joke i'm sure. but looking back through all of canon it's like...really? oh so you only do care about what he can do for you, you even said the quiet part loud.
-he saved eddie's life
-he saved chris' life
-he brought carla into their lives and solved eddie's childcare issues after eddie had been floundering for months already [math: couple weeks-1 month at the 118 (or could be much longer, bc maddie went through all of dispatcher training between 2x01 and 2x02, time is fake on this show) plus 5 months for the academy plus however long he was in LA before that. a long time to be without consistent organized childcare and relying solely on favors from women in your family who have their own lives and in pepa's case a full time job!] it's implied by the vague 'programs' and how applying for one can disqualify you from others that carla was able to also help him get funding from the state for chris' care, so this solved a serious financial issue for eddie as well.
-he grovelled for forgiveness for not being there for EDDIE after buck had suffered the extensive trauma of 3 near-death-experiences in a row and had to fight to get his job back when he was unfairly and illegally constructively dismissed because of personal bias on the part of his boss
-he forgave eddie for screaming at him in a grocery store and calling him exhausting and selfish even though eddie never apologised
-he put eddie up during the pandemic in his NO BEDROOM LOFT APARTMENT ffs, and considering eddie still had to pay rent on his own house buck probably did that for free
-he's cooked dinner for them (i think we only see this happen onscreen twice but there's indications it's a fairly regular thing, and that's labor and time intensive and also not cheap considering the price of groceries)
-he organized firefam christmas at the station when eddie was upset about letting down chris on their first christmas without shannon by having to work
-he ran to eddie's rescue in the middle of the night after his breakdown AND took over the running of the diaz household in the aftermath so eddie could focus on therapy and his own recovery, including helping clean up not just the metaphorical but the LITERAL mess eddie had made, complete with patching the holes in his walls
-gently intervened with worry for eddie's well being and mental health when eddie was cheating on his girlfriend with his dead wife's clone
-puts off his own life/wants/priorities and drops everything to deal with eddie's problems - the most glaring examples coming to mind would be all but moving into eddie's after eddie's breakdown and ignoring his newly-moved-in girlfriend, and rescheduling a date with tommy at the last minute after finding out about kim, but i'm sure there are others if i felt like an 8-season rewatch (reader, i do NOT)
-gave up his home - probably paying a penalty for breaking his OWN lease - to sublet from eddie so eddie could afford to move to texas
-and then functioned as his DAILY life coach/cheerleader/ersatz therapist when eddie, having impulsively quit his job and moved to el paso without talking about it with chris and bought a 'fixer-upper' aka money pit, had no job and was broke and floundering
-continued to coach him through staying and reconnecting with chris instead of giving up despite that meaning buck would get what he wanted - his partner and friend back. if he was actually as selfish as eddie likes to accuse him of being he could have said 'welp you tried, you're right it's time to move back'
-did not once say anything along the lines of 'i told you this was a bad idea' or 'hm what's going on with chris' health insurance now that you no longer have a firefighter job pretty sure uber doesn't have a benefits package' or anything else pointing out how eddie keeps on causing his own problems with impulsive bad choices and not learning anything from it (i would not have been able to resist! buck is way too nice!)
-and then there's the part where buck is always happy to step in and do the emotional labor w/ chris that eddie doesn't want to do or maybe doesn't have the ability to do, which is why i side-eye eddie being praised for being the best father EVAR. some examples:
-->when chris was upset about being lied to and how he was not like other kids/couldn't do everything after the skateboard incident, came up with a way chris Could Skateboard, Actually
-->it's said he often took chris to the zoo without eddie, to the point that they 'have the place memorized,' so he's involved in seeking out and scheduling these sorts of activities and probably also paying for them
-->buck is the one making cookies with chris for the pta bakesale, and he also helps with homework
-->and most importantly, buck has taken over difficult conversations with chris MULTIPLE times over a span of years including
------>struggling with people leaving/his father dating again
------>telling chris his father was shot
------>comforting/explaining to chris after his father had a breakdown and smashed up his bedroom with a baseball bat and scared the shit out of chris
------>not two-timing girls, which then turned into a conversation about his dead mom that eddie, despite listening in, continued to let buck handle for him
------>a second conversation about two-timing and how it's apparently fine when eddie does it, in order to convince chris not to LEAVE THE STATE. eddie really said 'hey i'm tagging you in, do your thing' instead of talking to his own kid after arguably the biggest parenting screwup made by a main on the show.
some of these buck just happened to be the person who was there or chris sought him out specifically, but at least twice eddie assigned him that task and it's implied in how he says it 'do what you ALWAYS do' that it's a regular thing.
on the other hand, eddie:
-helped save his life after he was struck by lightning (he gets half points for this because it was a group effort)
-took him to a poker game once to spend time together as friends that does not involve buck doing something for eddie (although it was arguably just to abuse his math skills for eddie's entertainment/gain)
-hosted one (1) dinner for buck and taylor that he actually cooked himself which i'm sure was a HUUUUUGE sacrifice in eddie's mind considering how terrible a cook he was and how much he hated her...
-sometimes throws his child at buck when buck is depressed or upset (i'm only listing this bc eddie probably thinks of it as something he has 'done for buck.' EYE don't think using your child as a combination of meat shield/inspiration porn (christopher never feels sorry for himself) and essentially putting the burden on chris of making buck feel better instead of eddie himself saying 'hey i'm worried about you, do you need to talk about it' and then listening to him, or saying 'hey, that was shitty of me to pick a fight with you and say all those mean things, i didn't mean it and i'm sorry' - y'know, being a FRIEND - is something he should be praised for)
-was very supportive when buck was angry and spiralling about his parents' bullshit (this was legit a very lovely friendship moment! back when eddie's character had potential and i had hope! oh, those halcyon days)
-gave buck refuge from maddie's micromanaging post-lightning strike, asked how he was, listened to the answer, and gave advice/encouragement/support from his own NDE experience (genuinely, no sarcasm, this was A+ good friendship and a standout moment. unfortunately it doesn't make up for *gestures vaguely at canon*)
-forgave buck for spraining his ankle/said through the proxy of tommy that he felt bad for excluding buck. it was an Everyone Sucks Here situation because Eddie was being thoughtless but that doesn't give buck the right to bodycheck him bc he's jealous. (people get hurt playing sportsball yes, so it's debatable if it was really on purpose although buck himself alludes to it not being completely accidental in the convo with maddie). it was still kind of eddie to understand where buck was coming from without needing it spelled out or going but whatabout meeeeeee. i'm just salty because clearly he's CAPABLE of seeing things from buck's perspective and being understanding and fair, and most of the time he'd just rather use buck as an emotional punching bag and accuse him of 'making everything about himself.' the time when buck arguably WAS making things about himself that weren't - ie eddie making a new friend - eddie doesn't say that. but when buck is having emotions in a way eddie doesn't like or finds inconvenient, suddenly the verbal knives are out.
-wasn't a homophobe when buck came out to him, although that's kinda bare minimum for being a Non-Awful Human plus he managed to insult him twice in that 10 minute conversation soooo... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
-and gave buck custody of his son if/when he dies which is arguably actually for chris's sake and for eddie's own peace of mind, considering that eddie's not dead yet, but he already has a habit of outsourcing the parts of parenting he doesn't want to do to buck!

Well when you put it like that
I mean this hit me like train. So freakin' true. Tommy and Buck hadn't really talked much before the loft kitchen scene. Somewhere in Vegas or in Muay Thai sparring sessions or in Eddie Diaz's kitchen, Buck's position Eddie and Christopher's life is made clear.
I don't know how to react to this. I don't I mean I just
My heart
i know we didn't see a lot of eddie's perspective in this whole tommy/buck development, but i just have to say, it's pretty telling that tommy already knows flat out that buck is irreplaceable in both eddie and christopher's lives. which means that in all the times he's hung out with eddie, eddie, either with his actions or his words, have unequivocally stated that buck is part of their lives and he is non-negotiable. tommy gets that while him and buck are here, at this moment, buck and eddie? with christopher? together? are on a different level. and that recognition means so much more coming from tommy, as established by eddie, especially since he's interested in buck in that fashion
