Happy New Year, my beloveds. I think about where I was, a year ago, and where I am now, and it's the same type of dizzying as thinking about the size of the milky way galaxy. I wish I could wrap my December 31, 2022 self up in a blanket and tell her how 2023 goes-- that it's the hardest year of her life, in so many ways, but also the best. That no matter how scary the prospect of motion is, it's better than stasis. That she's brave enough and strong enough for all of it, so much braver and stronger than she thinks.

That's what I wish for you all, for 2024: I wish you a year full of life. A year of occasions you have no option but rise to, of the clarity that only comes in the aftermath of action, of being surprised by the things the world confronts you with when you open yourself to it. A year in which you choose, wholeheartedly, instead of lingering in the waiting room of your own lives.

You are so much braver and stronger than you think, and you are capable of so much. Let yourself shine, and see how far you go when you're traveling at the speed of light.

Here's to 2024.

mean post incoming like I get that a lot of my fellow Jews are understandably really struggling with what to do at Passover seders this year but I just saw a tweet from a Jewish guy who was “asking” if there’s any historical evidence for Jewish slavery and saying that if there isn’t “we need new narratives now” and like. idk what happened for real 3500 years ago in that corner of the world but 99.9% of jewish thought and daily liturgy stems from the miracle of the exodus. there is no new narrative without a new religion!!!! lord save me from the cultural jews who think bagels are the sum total of what all this is about

I got back home from the Seder at like half past midnight, had the weirdest dreams, and am now having leftover matzah chocolate cake for breakfast. Life's good.

Honestly I am so very fascinated with how diverse matzoh brei recipes are from family to family/ community to community.

The way I was taught to make it: scramble eggs, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Rinse but don’t soak matzoh under water until it just becomes slightly pliable. Break it into chunks in the bowl of eggs and mix it around. Fry it in a pan like soft scrambled eggs (over low heat, stirring frequently until it’s cooked but still custardy) eat with jam, sugar, or maple syrup on top.
