Please! Can you give us more LU in twilight’s hyrule?
More ancestor and descendant relationship between time and twilight! 🥹 *cries*
hehe I'm honored that you like my work so much and want more <3
unfortunately I already have a ton of other projects lined up, so I can't promise anything yet, but you did remind me that I wanted to write a bit of a second part to my Time and Skull Kid comic, so I whipped this up for you. it's not really edited or anything but hopefully you enjoy it anyway~
(here's the link to the comic that comes before this for anyone who hasn't seen it yet, please read it for context:
"Hold on, where's the old man?"
Twilight turned around sharply, drawing a surprised yelp from the sailor sitting on his shoulders. "What?"
"He was just here," said Four, "Did he just... wander off? That's not like him."
"Maybe he got grabbed by something!" Wind exclaimed, searching the dense foliage for any signs of monsters.
"We haven't seen any monsters since we arrived here, though," Hyrule said thoughtfully, “And we would have heard him put up a fight.”
Dread began to build in Twilight's chest as his wolfish senses caught the faintest sound of an ocarina. He lowered Wind from his back and approached Legend, pulling his map out and offering it to the veteran. "I'll go look for him. There's a Spirit Spring not far from here, wait for us there," he explained, tracing the path with his finger, "The tunnel up ahead is dark, so you'll need a lantern, but the tunnel after that is well lit and leads right to the spring. I'll be back soon."
"Hold your horses, rancher," Legend said, grabbing Twilight's shoulder with his free hand before the man could run off into the woods, "Shouldn't one of us come with you, just in case?"
"I... I think I know where he went," Twilight said softly, "Don't worry, I know every corner of these woods. Trust me."
Legend released Twilight's shoulder and watched as he almost immediately shifted into wolf form and darted back down the trail they had been following. He sighed and motioned to the rest of the group, glancing back at the map in his hand. "Well, come on then, guys."
*
Twilight raced along the scent trail, muscle memory carrying him effortlessly over tree roots and through small tunnels left by local wildlife. His ears flattened against his head in panic when he picked up Time's trail, heading in the exact direction he had predicted. Would he reach his mentor in time? Or had the man already discovered that which he should not see?
The plaintive whistle of the ocarina, which had been gradually increasing in volume, came to an abrupt halt, and Twilight's heart jumped in his chest as if to mimic it.
He was too late.
His paws slowed to a defeated trot as he approached the quiet clearing. He shifted back into his Hylian form, then silently crept through the bushes, bracing himself for what he would find.
Time knelt in the clearing with his back to Twilight, his arms wrapped around a very familiar little spirit. Just beyond them, a simple gravestone sat nestled in the mossy ground, the inscription on it as clear as the day it was chiseled:
Link, Hero and Mentor.
The spirit in Time's arms lifted his face from where it had been buried in the man's shoulder. Little yellow eyes met Twilight's pale blue ones, and the spirit gasped. “Link! Doggy Link is here too!”
Time turned in surprise, as if just remembering who he had been traveling with until ten minutes ago. He smiled at Twilight for a moment, but suddenly found it hard to make eye contact when he noticed the expression on his protege's face.
“Um, Skull Kid, would you give us a moment?” he asked softly, looking down at the spirit that was still clinging to him.
Skull Kid held on tighter, suddenly looking very scared that Time might simply vanish if he let go.
“I'm not going anywhere, I promise,” Time soothed, “I just need to talk to him. I'll stay right here, okay?”
Twilight nodded behind him.
Skull Kid studied Twilight for a moment, then looked up at Time. “...Okay,” he murmured. He picked up the ocarina he had dropped earlier and pressed it into Time's hand. “Play this when you are done, okay? You better play it!”
Time smiled. “I will.”
He watched Skull Kid hop off into the trees, then rose to his feet, cradling the little tan ocarina in his hand. His thumb ran over the polished surface, the texture so familiar yet such a distant memory. He looked back at the gravestone, suddenly regretting that time their little group had taught each other how to read their different Hylian scripts.
“Seems I've wandered somewhere I should not have gone, haven't I?” he sighed.
Twilight walked into the clearing and stood by Time's side, somberly following his mentor's gaze. “Did Skull Kid tell you anything?”
“No,” Time replied, “But actions often say more than words can.”
They stood there in silence for a moment, unsure how to approach the subject at hand.
Twilight opened his mouth to speak, but Time quickly raised a hand to stop him. “Pup, I will not ask for an explanation if you do not want to give it. The flow of time is all too easily altered after all, one little word can completely change the course of history. However,” he continued, turning towards the young man, “I've seen the way you look at me, especially when our journey began. Someone your age should not have to look so sad. If telling me about this will ease some of the burden you carry, then I am more than happy to listen.”
Twilight looked up at him, his thoughts tripping over themselves in an effort to reach a decision. He desperately wanted to tell Time everything, how he had met him, what he knew of his mentor's fate. He wanted to tell him that changing the flow of time was his greatest desire, that he wished every day for a way to save Time from a death filled with regret and sorrow. And yet, his mind always wandered to that moment, when he had dealt the final blow to Ganondorf. The blow that Time's spirit had taught him. Would he had been able to defeat the Demon King if his ancestor had not been there to guide him? Would “saving” Time ultimately mean dooming Hyrule? Would it mean dooming more young heroes after him to take up the sword and attempt what he could not accomplish?
The rancher closed his eyes and leaned forward, resting his forehead on Time's breastplate as his shoulders sagged and tears threatened to form. Time held him close, rubbing gentle circles on his arm with one hand and wrapping the other around his upper back, still clutching the ocarina.
“It's more of a memorial than a grave,” Twilight eventually spoke, "I met your spirit during my journey. You taught me your sword techniques. I suppose I just wanted to thank you by honoring your memory."
Time hummed in response. “I must have been a good teacher then. Your skills are amazing to watch in action.”
Twilight let out a watery chuckle. “They saved my life more times than I can count.” He rested in Time's arms for a moment more, then pulled away with a small smile. “I think that's all I can say for now. Go ahead and spend some time with Skull Kid, I'll tell the others you'll catch up later. Ask Skull Kid to lead you to Ordon Village when you're done.”
“Thank you,” Time said gratefully.
Twilight nodded and headed back out of the clearing.
“...You know,” Time continued, looking at the ocarina thoughtfully, “That song he was playing, it's not from Hyrule.”
Twilight paused.
“It holds a very powerful magic, one said to put the sorrows of the departed who hear it to rest and allow them to pass on peacefully.”
Pale blue eyes widened as another memory floated to the surface. A stone sitting on a mountain path, howling a song that he had mimicked without wondering what it meant. A song that had been answered by a golden wolf with a single eye. A Shade, uttering words that Twilight had almost forgotten in his worry over Time.
At last, I have eased my regrets.
Perhaps things would turn out all right in the end after all.

Guess who said was not a writer and proceeded to write another thing?? that’s right, me. So, this is-
Forest song
————————————
The night was chill and the air felt cozy, I was with the chain sitting around the fire and telling curious facts about ourselves.
“Seriously? call Epona, with grass??” The vet deadpanned to the sentence Twilight had said.
“If we were in my Hyrule I could show ya!” Twilight defends while Epona, behind him, flicks her ears at the mention of her name.
“Does it have to do with that instrument you hang around your neck?” Wind asks curiously, slightly looking up from the second bowl of soup he has taken tonight.
“Yeah, kinda”
“You can actually call her by many methods, I, for example, could play the same song with an ocarina” Time proudly states.
“Still, grass is not exactly what is expected to be included in the ‘many methods’ of calling a horse” I defend Twilight’s curious fact about himself.
“I can get the notes on a recorder. Play the song and I’ll repeat it” The traveller says suddenly taking out a wooden recorder flute from his way-larger-inside-than-it-looks-outside pocket.
“Oh- no, I can’t do that, that’ll alert m’ girl, and she’s so relaxed right now, I don’ wanna wake ‘er up” Twilight says glancing over his shoulder to Epona, peacefully resting against a tree.
“Awh, kinda wanted to learn the song” The traveller pouts, lowering the recorder and putting it aside to take another sip of his soup.
I look at the wooden object and something passes through my mind; a memory of myself playing Zelda’s Lullaby with a beige recorder flute a few weeks before getting tossed in this adventure with these nine heroes. What were the notes again? Fa, La, Mi… Fa, La, Mi… oh yeah, I remember the melody, I remember song of storms and song of healing too… damn I miss my flute… wait… “Hey, ‘Rules, do you mind if I try your flute??”
“hm? You know how to play it?” He passes it over to me and the rest of the group’s eyes land on me, which I don’t realize, for I’m too focused in my excitement, it’s been a while since I played my instruments…
I take the instrument up near my lips and stop to think what I was about to play, I know quite a bunch of songs, what can be good for this occasion?
.
..
The air whispers and makes the leaves dance above my head, there is a faint mist that swirls and hums a melody that is not comprehensible yet not less calming… reminds me of…
Lost woods.
So that’s What I start playing. Saria’s song; the melody that can be heard in the misty forest Time grew up in, the song that the skull kid played when Twilight arrived to get the Master Sword during his journey.
My fingers move, making different melodic sounds with ease as I close my eyes and feel like I’m back home, annoying my mother with the same song time and time again. Once I finish the song I open my eyes and chuckle at the memory.
“How do you know that song?”
I flinch at the sudden Time’s firm, deep voice, that one that people use when they’re confused and will end up in a negative reaction.
I let out a quite nervous chuckle and begin “Uh- well… history says an old hero used to play that song when he missed a certain person… it’s said that one can still go to Lost Woods and will hear the soft notes of an ocarina playing that song, along with a childish laughter, in certain place… I don’t know which, though…” That was the longest lie I’ve ever made up.
Damn I wish I could tell them the truth, but the idea of them starting to question their existence for being just game characters for me… yeah, I wouldn’t like that reaction.
Time smiles softly and lets out a calming huff through his nose —Dad Time was tense, glad he relaxed— “A good friend wrote it… along my fist journey, I could play it and I would feel like i could hear her voice…”
“Oh… that why is called ‘Saria’s song’?” time to play dumb.
“…Yes.” His face is not one hurt, nor of loss… but nostalgic. Ouch, sorry.
“Wait- a skull kid played it whenever I entered the sacred grove that guarded the master sword,” Twilight started “that lil’ brat attacked me with marionettes”
“Wait wait wait- a skull kid played it?? THAT skull kid is still alive in your era?!” Time exclaimed… the others are missing the way a faint smile is twitching on his lips…
“YOU KNOW HIM?!”

Echoes of the Past, Legend of Zelda BotW-TotK fan-fiction.
Contains some spoilers. Part One
Part Two: Master Sword little doodle to include for this chapter,
Tumblr media
Josha sat at a desk, examining the ocarina closely. A small crack ran down the triforce plate that ran around the mouthpiece. Purah lifted up a piece of the Ocarina shard that chipped off in her hand, upon touch. “It seems that it didn’t spend all its time underwater, but the damage doesn’t exactly match that of being trapped underwater either. Josha, have you any luck with any further examinations?”
“Only conclusions I can make upon a close look, besides the bits that broke in your hand, and with the mouthpiece like it is. It’s hard for me to think this Ocarina was close to being playable.”
“Hmm…” Purah placed the shard down, wrapped in a clean cloth. “Then the question remains, where was that melody coming from?”
“Maybe with the flow of the water going through the ocarina?” Purah sighed.
“It’s unlikely that is the case, as we wouldn’t be able to hear it otherwise.” Walking towards her young student, Purah looked closer at the instrument. Lifting it up in her hands for closer examination. Zelda swung open the door, her face was covered in the look of curiosity. “Ah, right on time. Tell me, Princess, how was the dive?”
“It was stupendous, but please let me see it!” She walked over, lifting the instrument in her hand.
“Do you recognize it, Princess?” Purah watched as she held the instrument in her hand. Glancing it over, turning it as she noticed the triforce symbol.
“I can’t say for certain that I do…” Upon his arrival, Link noticed Zelda holding the ocarina. “However it is quite strange that this Ocarina has the logo of the triforce…” Glancing down at her hand, recalling the same symbol appearing once before.
Walking over towards her, Zelda handed the Ocarina towards Link. He glanced over the instrument, noticing the few cracks that ran along the edges. “Go on Linky, might as well hold it.” Purah smiled as she lifted up the cracked piece. “From the looks of it, it won’t be able to play any melodies though.”
“It can’t play?” Zelda looked at her, before rushing over to glance at the broken fragment. Link lifted up the instrument, turning it around before feeling the urge to play. Lifting the broken mouthpiece up to his lips, he slowly started to move his fingers to play a note. With a light note gently whispering from the ocarina, Link felt a buzz of energy fill him. Purah and Zelda, hearing the melody, turned in surprise, “D-Did it just play?” Zelda asked Link.
Before he could respond, a gentle light shined bright from the Ocarina. With the cracks slowly fading, Purah's shard remained untouched. Surprise covered Link’s face as the Ocarina returned itself back to its original state.
“That glow…it’s like when the master sword spoke.” Zelda walked over, running a hand over the instrument once more. Feeling the place that used to be riddled with cracks. Meeting his eyes, understanding her concern for the connection between the instrument and the master sword. “We must pay the Great Deku tree a visit about this, Link.”
“What are you thinking of, if you don’t mind me asking, Princess?” Josha looked at Zelda, trying to glance at the Ocarina. “Do you think there might be a connection between the sword and this Ocarina?”
“I can’t quite say for certain, but it’s best we investigate to be on the safe side.” She smiled, trying to ease the worries of the young scholar. “Besides, I’ve been meaning to visit the Great Deku tree for awhile now.” Turning her attention back to Link, returning the ocarina back into his hands. “Until then, I would like to have Link hold onto it for the time being.”
Nodding his head in agreement, Purah handed Link a special design pouch. “Well, Linky, to make sure you don’t lose it. I’ll give you this holster that I used when I was smaller to carry my flute around..” Link grasped the holster from her hand, snapping it into place on his hip. Placing the ocarina perfectly on his hip. “It looks good on you, Linky.”
Purah waved both Link and Zelda off as they started their journey to the lost woods, with her riding on a golden coat horse. One saved by Link during his travels after the upheaval. Naming the horse ‘Zelli’, with the combination of both his and Zelda’s names. Zelda cherished Zelli more so since her return after the final battle. With her placing a silent princess in the braiding of her mane. Link watched on his stead Petal, a horse with specks of pink covering her body. A horse he saved from a band of Moblins after the upheaval, with the horse following after him since. With the clomping of their horses echoed across the stone roads towards the forest, Hudson construction workers could be seen clearing the ruins of Castle town. With the events of the battle with Ancient Ganondorf passed, Zelda started to feel peace slowly settling into the kingdom.
Woodland stable slowly came into view, outside the stable playing their song was the Stable Trotters. A small gathering of travelers sat watching the performers, as the conductor continued his dance in front of his musicians. Slowing their speed, Zelda looked over towards them. Taking in the melody as she turned to Link. “It would be nice if you could use the Ocarina to join them, Link.”
Link glanced at her and then the Ocarina. He wasn’t skilled in playing such an instrument, but when he held it. A familiar feeling comes over him as he plays, with the gentle music flowing from the Ocarina. Horses from the stable started to neigh in joy as the melody continued, catching the attention of the Stable owner. Many of the cuccos rushed towards Link, crowing along with his melody. Zelda watched as Link pulled the ocarina away, with the cuccos circling around Petal. He glanced at her as she giggled, mostly in awe for the look across Link’s face. Petal stomped her hoof down, scaring away the cuccos.
Zelda’s curiosity for the power of the Ocarina continued to grow as they reached the lost woods. Fog still stretched around the old ruins that rested at the entrance of the woods. Helping those that can see him, Hetsu stood shaking his maracas while dancing upon their approach. Joy could be seen on his face as he turned to them. “Princess!”
“It’s good to see you, Hetsu. I do hope you are well.” She smiled as both her and Link dismounted their horses. Entrusting the reins to a nearby Korok that dashed from behind Hetsu. “How is the Great Deku tree? We’ve come to retrieve the Master sword from him once more.”
“Oh no! I hope that doesn’t mean…” Zelda cut him off before he said anymore.
“Oh no, we are investigating this Instrument and it has some similarities to that of the master sword. We were wanting to just see if there's any relation between the two.” Hetsu’s face started to calm as he shook his maracas slowly.
“Oh I see now, that is indeed good to hear!” He twirled into the fog, shaking his maracas clearing the smoke. Making a path through the fog towards the Koroks forest. “Please follow me!”
Leading the way, Link and Zelda headed into the forest. With most of the fog pushing itself to clear a way, some bleed along the trim of the path. Twirling fans could be heard as they walked deeper into the forest. Many Koroks popped their heads from behind tree branches. Upon passing through the fallen log that served as a bridge. Both of them were met with the Deku tree, soundly asleep with the master sword resting in front of him. Zelda walked up to the blade alongside Link. Grasping the blade in his hands once more, he pulled the blade from its slumber. Fulfilling its duty, the duo placed the blade to rest by the Deku tree after the battle with the ancient Ganondorf. However as the blade rested in his hands, Zelda’s attention turned to the ocarina. Watching for any reaction from Link holding the blade.
“Hmm, it would seem that there isn’t any reaction at all with the two.” Zelda, puzzled, placed her chin in her hand. Stroking her chin with her forefinger as she tried to ponder the ocarina’s reaction to Link. With a loud yawn, she looked over to see the Deku tree. Slowly awakening from his short nap.
Glancing down at the two, he lightly chuckled. “It is always most welcoming to see you two. What brings you to visit me and the sword of evil’s bane, Princess?” Glancing over at Link as he held the blade firmly in his hand. “I do not sense any looming Malice that requires for the blade to awaken just yet, but yet you still call for it?”
“My apologies for disturbing your slumber, Great Deku tree.” Zelda looked over at Link, placing the master blade on his back. Within the blade’s sheath, handed to Link from one of the Koroks. With the ocarina on his hip as he turned, catching the Deku tree’s attention. Zelda continued, “We’ve only come to investigate the blade with the Ocarina that was discovered.”
“Ocarina you say? Hmm…” He paused for a moment, glancing at Link. “Before you take the blade, might I request to examine this Ocarina myself?”
“Why of course, Great Deku tree.” Zelda looked over at Link, as he pulled the Ocarina from the holster on his hip. With the instrument to his lips, he began to play a similar melody from the stable. Despite enjoying the melody, the Great Deku tree felt a sense of uneasiness as he listened. With an old memory hitting him, causing sap to drift from his eyes. Zelda, upon noticing, motioned Link to stop playing. “Are you alright, Great Deku tree?”
“Do not fret, Princess…” Taking a moment to calm himself, the ancient tree glanced down on Link. “I must thank you princess, as the melody allowed me to recall a most pleasant memory. Maybe this memory would be of use to you, but alas only if you would like to hear.”
“It would be an honor to hear one of your life tales, Great Deku tree.” Link nodded his head in agreement. Glancing at the two, the Deku tree felt a familiar sensation as he recalled his memory brought by the melody of the Ocarina.
“Ah yes, I remember it was around the time when I was merely a sprout.” He chuckled softly, remembering his roots scarcely smaller than what they were in his current state. Despite this he remembered the forest he was born in was much different that the Korok Forest they currently reside in. “Although I do not know of my predecessor, whom I was born after his demise, I do recall hearing a lovely song. One that was created by a Kokiri before I granted them the ability to change into their form of today.” Zelda and Link sat on the log on top of the Great Deku tree’s root as he continued to speak.”However I remember one of these young Kokiri, but only one came and took me away. As a war was brewing to capture a tyrant of the kingdom that sought after the triforce. An ancient artifact older than the stone you carry around your neck, Princess.”
Zelda pressed her hand against her secret stone, once held by the first king of Hyrule.
“I’ve only recalled this Kokiri carrying an Ocarina of similar design to the one currently in your possession, Link.” Link glanced over the Ocarina, while Zelda continued to listen. “Although I do not know the origins of this instrument, something tells me that it holds a deeper story than those told in legends, Princess. I do hope that my memory serves you well in your investigation.” He smiled at her. “I do hope that you come and play for me some more, Link.”
He nodded his head at him.
“Thank you for sharing the memory with us, Great Deku tree.” Zelda smiled as she glanced at the Ocarina. “Interesting, that something from a time long passed had found its way here. I do wonder what the history this instrument holds…”
“I’m sure in time, the answer to your question will be answered, Princess.” Zelda smiled at the Deku tree as he spoke, before the duo left the forest.

(I didn't play the HD version, it just looks cool, I played the GC one)
This was my first Zelda game, yeah, I wasn't originally a Nintendo kid, but this game holds a lot for me. It represents my game skill in a way, I mean, I had no idea what I was doing when I first started it, barely got past the first sequence. It was only when I got into high school that I actually tackled it and I was on fire, I got all the way to the water temple and that's when I stopped. No real reason, just daunting. That and I had other things to occupy myself with.
Finally, I've returned-
Tumblr media
And this time, to finish it. This one will be a little different, as that version was the Wii game, this will be the GC one. Really just because I felt like starting over but I should still have my old save so maybe one day I'll revisit. So without further ado-
One of my main complaints when I started this game was that it was too dark. Not dark as in "creepy and scary" but dark as in "who turned out the lights?" The filter can be a chore to look at sometimes because everything looks so dull and there's this light shining that blends in with the background, ew yuck, and motion blur? I think I need to take a break. If only the HD version resurfaced one day…
I mean, long story short, if this game was updated a little for modern audiences-
I think it's aged pretty well but there are some slow features like traversing or climbing (hey, wait, Zelda currently does this) but I'm not even going to mention or compare TOTK.
I can compare it to the Wii version a little bit and while aiming was a lot easier with the remote, the manual camera options sort of weigh out the difference though not perfect. I personally feel that gameplay might be a bit easier but that also might just be me and the era that I originally played it in versus now. The framerate can be bad at times but that's just to show how ambitious it gets, not sure how the Wii fared though. I hear the Wii U version is superior anyway so best to just leave the comparisons at that (except nobody has a Wii U)
With that out of the way, onto the good stuff.
Tumblr media
The story is something else. You know something's rich when you can see yourself creating stories and fanfictions in your head from every little aspect and the lush variety of characters. Just the idea of being in that world is enough to be satisfying which is enough to say that you've achieved something great. And because of that, it's satisfying no matter what port you're playing.
In part, some of that is due to its similarities to Ocarina of Time. There were a lot of points where things felt really familiar but I've never gotten that far before but at the same time, in other ways, it challenges your perspective. Take Midna, she's probably one of the most enjoyable companions in the series, they even make it as bold as to say she's the new Zelda. Picture this, a mysterious being, unlike you've ever seen before floats into your cell and offers to help you out but asking for repayment, telling you you're going to be some big hero in the end. Creepy but ok for now, she's on our side and we become human again. They even show how cute she is by having her eek whenever you dash, yawn every once in a while, do little gestures and pat your side when you don't use the controller for a while, she really wins you over.
Well, one of the spirits tells you that this power she seeks (and has been having us get), is probably quite evil so you start to question her methods, maybe she's with the baddie afterall. Then when you finally meet the main baddie (which isn't Ganondorf) face to face after hearing stories of him, he turns you back into a wolf but Midna saves you from death. You feel bad for doubting her and take her where she requests as she's dying, which happens to be off to Zelda who then in turn sacrifices herself because she sees the good in Midna and wants to…for lack of a better term, exploit that and give her light and being so she's no longer trapped in the twilight and can move freely. The same princess that surrendered to the baddie hoping to save Hyrule but only made things worse, where she failed, she saw an opportunity for others to prosper. Midna now having the approval and light of Zelda herself, the name of the game, the one that you know from the other games. That's some A-level commitment and payoff. And there're so many moments like that, that's not even to say the Princess is bad, she's actually one of my favorites.
Tumblr media
The gameplay reinvents itself and always shows you something new, you can tell how masterfully crafted it all is just from the opening segment alone and how much it teaches you. It never felt dull or repetitive despite how memory served with the tears of light. I actually almost expected more of that to be honest. And it's a bit of an outdoorsman simulator, canoeing, horseback riding, herding, bug collecting, archery, fishing and let me just say I did not expect snowboarding in my Zelda game today but here we are and I'm in love, how could I not? It can be action packed then cozy. And there's a ton of stuff to collect to reach completion so play time can be anywhere you want.
I understand why they changed Zelda now though, I could see so many of these other elements from other games all basing themselves around Ocarina and its system but since it has most of what I like about Ocarina and most problems I had with it are easy-ish fixes that any updated version would be able to fix then this technically is my number one Zelda game right now and not just that but-
Ok, I'll actually finish the sentence this time because I'm shocked yet scared to admit it. This isn't just my favorite Zelda game now but one of my favorite games of all time, like no joke a top 3 candidate, it's that good. Easy 5/5. I think this is a once in a lifetime game where we may never achieve this type of Zelda game again.

Here is my entry for day 6: in another life for @zelinkcommunity Zelink week 2023. This one is set after Ocarina of Time and cover Link telling Zelda about the adult timeline. The part of a elder OoT Zelda with Twilight Princess Zelda is based on a fan art.
Link is glad to be back in Hyrule and meeting Princess Zelda again as the two have a picnic in the garden, which has changed a bit since he was a kid, but she was a bit different from the Zelda he knew. In the dark future that could no longer exist now, Zelda was a brave warrior whose hold sadness in her eyes and whose Link fall in love with, but this Zelda doesn’t seem to know war and has live a blessed life in the castle, one free of Ganondorf or monsters after her head for the Triforce. She even treat Link as a old friend than anything else. He feel unsure about being here in Hyrule when Zelda, seeing the upset look on Link’s face, put her hand on Link, getting him back to reality, and ask him, “Sir Link, is something the matter?” That look of worry in Zelda’s eyes cause him to sigh before answering, “Actually... these visions I told you and your father about when I warned you about what would happen if Ganondorf overthrow your father.... We live through them, in truth.” and begins explaining the dark future he left behind.
Zelda listen well to what Link tell him, from him watching Zelda ride off with Impa to safety when Ganondorf take over Castle Town due to the king was not warned in time, how he open the Door of Time with the Ocarina of Time she left behind for Link and him pulling the Master Sword to open the Golden Realm, only to be placed in a seven years sleep when the Triforce split, with Ganondorf calming the Triforce of Power, his reawakening as a young man by Rauru whose task Link in finding six Sages to help seal away Ganondorf to the corrupted Golden Realm, meeting the mysterious Shiek whose help Link in his journey across a dark Hyrule ruled by evil, how he brave the temples and awaken five of the Sages who are old friends of Link, Sheik revealing to be Zelda as a young woman around his age in the Temple of Time and her capture by Ganondorf, Link traveling to Ganon’s Tower and their fierce battle which ended with Ganon seal away in the Golden Realm, and Zelda using the Ocarina of Time to send Link back to the moment that they first meet. This was quite a shock to Princess Zelda to hear this and it finally make sense how Link seems to know her better when they know each other for months since that day in the garden.
In due time, the young man left to have a home in the Hyrule that wouldn’t remember his adventures. Princess Zelda watch Link leave the castle and she said to herself, “If we knew each other better, Link...”
“If we knew each other better....” the elder queen said in her sleep before a voice said, “Grandma?” and Queen Zelda loom from her resting chair to see her beloved granddaughter Zelda looking with curiosity as she ask, “What was you talking about?” The queen smile and said to her brown hair granddaughter, “I was just remembering a old friend, dear granddaughter. He was a wonderful man whose help me when I needed it, but he left to look for a lost friend. You may meet him one day, Zelda.” The old queen think to herself, ‘I wish you can supported my granddaughter in the next life, Link. You are the Hero of Time after all.’

Tellie, I'm sorry you had a crummy day. :( Here, have a pick-me-up:
Zelda dragged her feet through the castle corridor, her eyes downcast. She wasn't entirely sure if it was the weather or the continuous stream of unpleasant news she'd been handling today, but she felt distinctly heavy and empty at the same time. Sighing, the queen stopped mid-step, hugging herself, exhausted.
That was when she heard it.
Gentle, soft, low notes, wafting in the air, dancing on the drafty breeze that tore through the castle. A little lilt in notes followed by a descending melody before crescendoing to a peak.
Her lullaby.
The queen looked around, tracing the music. Eventually she found where it was louder and started to follow, like a sailor entranced by a siren's call. Descending some stairs, she found herself entering a hallway that was adjacent to the gardens, and there was where she saw him.
Leaning against a stone pillar with one foot propped on it, Link played her melody over and over on his glistening ocarina, eyes closed, a peaceful look on his face. As her footsteps approached, he gently lowered the instrument and then looked at her with a smile.
"Your Majesty," he said quietly, tipping his head in acknowledgement.
"Sir Link," she returned, her heart growing warm at the sight of her husband.
"Epona and I have been waiting for you, Your Majesty," Link noted, reaching a hand out for Epona to approach around the bend, nickering in delight as she nibbled at his gauntlet.
"Oh? And pray tell, whatever for?" Zelda asked, clasping her hands in front of her and tipping her head to the side.
"A grand heroic adventure, of course," Link answered, stepping off the stone floor and into the garden proper. Epona eagerly went to his side, ready for him to mount. "No one will notice a queen riding into the sunset briefly with one of her knights, right? We need to survey the perimeter, safety discussions and all."
Zelda giggled like a giddy teenager. "Of course, my dear sir. This sounds like an important matter that I must attend to."
Link climbed onto Epona, his face glowing. "Then I'll see you outside, Your Majesty."
Zelda hastened for the garden to take a shortcut to the stable, when she heard someone clear their throat. Link and the queen both tensed before seeing a silhouette walk into the fading evening light.
Impa crossed her arms. "I want her back before midnight this time, Link."
The hero rolled his eyes. "Impa, for Farore's sake--"
Impa raised an eyebrow. Link sighed.
"Fine," he acquiesced. "After midnight."
"Link, I said before--"
"Sorry, can't hear you, birds are too loud, goodbye!"
With that, Link rode off, making Epona jump clear over the garden wall. Zelda laughed. Impa trained her stern gaze on the queen.
Giggling nervously, she hastened towards the stable. "By midnight, got it, Impa!"

Captain N Again Preview
Noa Keene had dreamed of her brother, Kevin, quite a lot the last several days. He had gone missing years ago, though whether it was seven or eight years she could no longer recall without looking it up. She could barely even remember what his voice sounded like and the only thing that really jogged her memories of him was when she played Nintendo games.
They had shared an NES as they grew up in the 90s, as well as every other console Nintendo released as they got older. Their parents worked constantly in an ultimately futile attempt to join the ranks of the wealthy and that same poisonous ambition caused them to disallow Kevin or Noa from ever bringing friends over to play with them. It dissuaded them both from even making friends in the first place but at least they had each other.
“You will be alone no longer.”
The voice, powerful and yet infinitely gentle, startled Noa out of her normally deep sleep and she wasn’t in her bed back home. Instead she was on the floor of some translucent blue platform that reminded her of the Sacred Realm from Ocarina of Time. Everything else was far too bright for her eyes to really make out, including the five people on other platforms nearby.
“Lucid dream?” Noa wondered aloud as she squinted in a fruitless attempt to better make out her surroundings.
“This is no dream, Captain. This is your destiny,” another voice insisted.
“Captain?” Noa echoed, confused, “I’m not a captain. I’m just a gamer who works at a furniture store to make ends meet.”
“No, you are Captain N and it is your destiny to restore the proper order to our worlds,” yet another voice insisted.
“Accept our gifts and do our good work, Captain,” the first voice said.
Noa felt a warmth envelope her entire body and her body was thrown backwards by some invisible force. The light around her grew brighter then turned into a spiraling rainbow. The rainbow wrapped around her to the point it had become like a second skin and then, just as suddenly as it had started, it all stopped. She landed unceremoniously on some soft grass and took a moment to get her bearings back.
Her head didn’t stop spinning for a solid two minutes but once it had, she stood up and realized she was no longer in her simple pajamas. Her shirt had been replaced with a bright red hoodie with zippered pockets and some kind of armor plating tactically placed around her chest and over her shoulders. There were also several spots of faded color where it looked like stylized patches used to be on her long sleeves. Each of the missing patch patterns reminded her of things from Nintendo games, like Zelda’s Triforce or a mushroom from the Mario games.
“Oh, this thing is sick! I wonder if there’s something cool on the back too?” she happily wondered as she looked it over.
The pants were significantly more mundane, though they did come with a belt that had an empty holster. She checked the pants’ pockets, but they were empty as well. The last part of her new outfit was the combat boots whose coloring reminded her of the hover boots from Ocarina of Time. It felt like there was supposed to be more to it but no matter how many times she looked herself over again, that’s all there was.
“Well, well… so you’re who tripped my perimeter alarm.”
Noa looked over at the new arrival and gasped as she came face to face with none other than Professor Elvin Gadd himself. The short, elderly genius barely came up to her chest but stood as though he towered over her.
“So are you going to introduce yourself or has a Boo got your tongue?” he asked before laughing at his own pun.
“Oh, um… I’m Noa Keene. Nice to meet you, Professor,” Noa answered a little hesitantly as she tried to get over how cool it was to meet a video game character in the flesh.
“Really now?” he pondered aloud while curiously examining Noa, “I was certain you were Captain N, based on your outfit…”
This is the coolest dream ever, Noa thought to herself as E. Gadd examined her.

Sticks and Stones May Break My Bones
Angst! My Beloved!
Not a lot of whump here, but I put Wild through the wringer!!! Lots of BotW2 ideas and concepts here, but nothing really cannon.
Also, disclaimer: I think Flora is a wonderful person, a bit harsh and sometimes unkind, but I feel for her a lot. The prompt submitted to me however asked for her as an ass, so that's what's here, for angst reasons. THIS IS NOT HOW I PLAN ON WRITING HER NORMALLY!!!
When Wild left the Chain behind in the woods, it was with a soft smile and a hesitant wave of his right hand. It was with a gentle ‘See y’all later’ that made Warriors shake his head with a sigh while Twilight offered a wobbly grin.
He would join them again, he knew that. After all, Hylia wouldn’t have chosen him to go with them in the first place if he was only supposed to leave before they’d even really started to know what it was that they were meant to be doing.
He’d see them again, and he’d fall back into a routine with all of them, sparring with Warriors and teaching Hyrule to cook and shield surfing with Wind and learning to carve from Sky. He’d go back to sewing with Legend, to exploring with Hyrule, to learning the Ocarina with Time and teasing Twilight about his terrible singing. He could work with Four on the Sheikah Slate and experimenting with different plants he’d gathered. He would see them again, and he’d go back to being busy and smiling nearly every day.
For the time being however, he had to square his shoulders and harden his jaw as he stepped through the swirl of black that had repulsed all the others every time they tried to enter. He had to tame his mind and wild spirit and come to stand before the Princess of Hyrule in all of her stern glory and receive the scolding he was due for wandering off without permission.
He never had time to question what she meant by being gone for ‘two whole weeks’ before she was marching off towards the labs and explaining that there was a new task for them to complete.
Such a task was one that left in his mind no time for thoughts of his brothers save on the lonely nights in the sky when the islands above the clouds were silent save for the birds about him that reminded him of Sky, or when he ran across the forests and was reminded of the wolf that once ran at his side. And, alright, the tiny people in the grass and the fountains reminded him of Four and Hyrule. When the wind sang strong in his ears as he dove towards the earth from the highest places in the sky, he couldn’t help but envision a small hero whose laughter danced like the sea and who’s fingers mastered the currents of wind and sea both.
It was a lonely quest, just like his last before it, but somehow it was more painfully so, now that he knew what it was to have brothers at his side to catch a monster’s blade when he was too slow or to help him patch himself up afterwards. It was quiet when the Princess and he sat around the fires as night, she studying him as he sat still and stonelike as she worked.
The hand that had waved goodbye to his brothers now flickered green and ethereal in the night shades, iron bands clinging to the wisping appendage and acting as a bond to hold its form together. It was nothing like what he’d known or studied in the Sheikah technology, or even what he’d seen from the many worlds he’d traveled with the other, and it earned many a stare and twist of the lips from those he met and traded with during his journey.
The arm was only the first of many changes, it’s power seeping through his body and altering him before he even knew what was happening. He’d hated it at first, disliking how it changed him, made his eyes glow and his hair touch with the same ethereal shades, red bleeding through at the roots and earning him even more wary looks.
Ganon, in all his terrifying power, had been a surprising comfort during the quest, an aid to discovering his new abilities and training them to bend to his own will. The Princess had been wary of their relationship, but had accepted it when she saw what he learned to do, and every evening she would require a report of his newfound skills, as well as the occasional demonstration or examination.
It all came to an end both too soon and not soon enough.
Ganon was gone, as if he’d never been there at all, and the Princess was as cold as ever even after their second adventure at each other's sides. And now there was no use for the abilities that had fused to his soul like the arm had to his flesh. He’d asked Purah if there was something that could be done to restore his body to its normal Hylian state, without the glowing limb that earned his only stares and insults from the village people, but the Princess had overheard it and declared that such a thing should not even be attempted.
“You don’t understand, Link. Don’t be foolish! We have here a scientific marvel ready for our investigation and exploration and you want to get rid of it just because it looks odd?”
He’s shuffled his feet slowly, resisting the impulse to rub at his chest where the Hylian part of him ended and the eldritch horror began. “I can’t live like  Hylian anymore.”
“Because you aren’t one!” Her Highness rolled her eyes. “Honestly, Sir Knight, after everything I certainly doubt that Hylian even applies to you anymore! Hylians do not possess the qualities that you now do, and they most certainly do not travel through stone or time or any other such thing at will. Think would you! You’re something else entirely, and I intend to find out what that is!”
Purah had frowned at that, eyes full of sorrow as they met his own with an apologetic sigh. But there was nothing the de-aged scientist could really say against the royal Sovreign of Hyrule, not as a Sheikah sworn to the service of the royal family. The woman/girl had offered him a sympathetic pat on the head later after climbing up to reach high enough to do so, as well as a few dumplings that Paya had sent on her grandmother’s behalf the day before. It was a welcome gesture, but amounted to so little on the grand scale of life. Not when so many others he had once called his friends had so blatantly rejected the mere sight of him.
Bolson and the other carpenters shied away from him with harsh whispers as they spat insults across the distance.
‘Half-blood’.
‘Gerudo Bastard’.
‘Freak’.
‘Demon’.
There were favorite insults spread from stable to stable and up and coming village to up and coming town and slowly all of Hyrule knew of the monster that had once been the hero. Gossip abounded, and he couldn’t even turn to shield his face with his hood without drawing attention to his arm.
It was only the koroks that welcomed him, themselves all too accustomed to the strange and ethereal. Them and the blupees.
Maybe it was the knowledge of how it felt to be shot at for his oddness that allowed him to ease into the graces of the flighty animals. And maybe it was his lonely heart crying for comfort, but when nestled in their midst, it almost reminded him of how it felt to be hugged by the salty veteran, on the rare occasional that the pink-haired hero had let down his guard.
The fairy’s tangled themselves in his hair and the blupees gathered at his feet, koroks dancing around him and flying to his side as if he was some sort of forest god, but the strange rise of his spirits in their presence shattered the instant a traveler caught sight of him.
Arrows and fire, once his favorite of weapons, were turned against him as words in every language of the New Hyrule had burst from the mouths of its people, and like his namesake, he ran before them, darting through the forest and fading in amidst the trees, hiding, incorporeal and translucent within the halls of the forest as those he’d once seen as allies pushed him away.
He’d begged the new Queen for aid, for relief or even just a word to the people that he wasn’t the evil they had come to think he was, but she only waved him aside with a purse of her lips. “You are not meant to be here without first asking.” The Child of Hylia declared, eyes as cold as the Shrine’s waters themself. “And why should I make a declaration on behalf of a man who refuses to even speak to me properly? You come groveling like a worm, yet for years it was I who you ignored. See how it feels, Sir Hero, to be the one left helpless at the hands of the country. Know what it is to be scorned by those who you thought would love you.”
He’d barely made it out of the window before the trainee guards of the newly repaired Hyrule Castle had caught him and Queen Zelda Diana Hyrule had stared after him with eyes colder than Hebra’s tallest peaks.
It was the Father Tree -the Deku Tree as the Queen had called it, but the koroks laughed at him for using the name, so he’d adjusted in kind- who suggested that he hide the changes, and he’d begun to wander Hyrule as much as possible to find the materials he would have needed.
The Queen still required his presence regularly so she could inspect him; her love of science no ways tainted as to stop her from ordering him to appear regularly, as there was now no need or safety in his acting as her guard. The Queen sought her people’s respect, and to employ such a being as himself, not Hylian and not quite mortal, would be to spark fear in the people. Indeed, when he skirted villages, he would wince at word of ‘the queen’s monster’ as gossip was traded. Those who didn’t see him themselves knew him as a beast of feral nature who lived amid the lost woods and destroyed any who came close.
“A specter that glows with the light of the shrines.” They would tell each other over campfires. “It has eyes like a ghost, empty and lost, with no care for humanity or Hylia’s chosen. They say it was once the Hero of this world, but he died ages ago.”
“I heard it’s the body, possessed by a being beyond this realm, a monster escaped from the edges of reality that tried to hide in our midst but corrupted it’s host so that it only scares away others, leaving it roam the earth in a shattered body. If you get too close to it though, it’ll take your instead.”
He’d stayed away from towns after that.
The blupees and koroks had been happy to help him to find what he needed to hide among the Hylians should he wish though, and two in particular guided him; the korok swinging little twigs like they were batons and humming swinging little shanties as it hopped along the path, the blupee snorting softly and nipping at his heels when he wandered too far, unnatural purple eyes staring up at him with something that was fondness and a reprimand all at once, and in their care he’d made his way across the land of Hyrule to find what would be needed to return to his once life.
The fairies and their Great cousins had been welcome help, and in time, he’d been able to walk amid the populace of Hyrule like any other, as long as he kept a long cloak about him and his hair pulled back to hide where the roots would begin showing again in gold and ethereal blue.
Once Hyrule had talked about needing to hide in his world, about the curse that followed him and made the Hylian people afraid. He’d thought it bizarre and ridiculous of the people at the time, but now he understood what it was to live it.
When the portal opened beneath his feet the day that the Queen had reprimanded him for concealing and potentially damaging the strange limb, startling the Skeikah scientists and Queen both, he’d nearly cried tears of relief.
He was going away, somewhere where he wasn’t a science project and where, unless they traveled to his world’s future, no one would know how much he had changed. His copy of the slate had enough hair dye to last him a few months, and he was certain he could make more over time, and as long as he continued wearing the tunics and gloves the fairies had helped him to adjust to hide the glow the others would probably never catch on. Or well, he could extend it anyway.
His brothers greeted him with open arms and teary eyes, and in a strange parallel to his adventure, he found himself thinking of blupees when Legend had curled against him, stiff and cold on the outside, but with fingers that clutched his tunic just a bit too tight to really be reluctant. And Four, Hyrule and Wind’s exuberant hugs and chatter brought to mind tiny forest people and koroks with twigs for batons.
It was good to be home.
It was good to cook for other people again, and they were glad to have him cook for them, even if his fondness for both Gerudo spiced dishes and fae like sweet things had increased exponentially during his newest adventure. It was good to fight at their sides, even if it was strange to once again have to take others into account before he could select a weapon. It was good to sit around a fire and talk with the others too, but that was perhaps the hardest one; it had been ages since he’d had a proper two-way conversation with anything other than a tree or a korok, and neither of those was good at either staying awake or staying focused for very long.
There were some harder things to adjust to though. Fire, for one. Unlike before when he’d have been happy to burn an enemy camp to the ground, now he was wary of using faming weapons or spreading heat further than necessary. The same went for hunting; he couldn’t bring himself to shoot an animal unless it attacked first or they needed the meat it would provide, and even then, he felt a bit bad for doing so. Is this what Twilight had felt like? Is this why the rancher never liked hunting? Because he too knew what it was like to be on the other end of the bow?
But the hardest thing by far to readjust to was his name.
‘Wild’ they had called him again, and after months of ‘the wild one’, ‘wild beast’, ‘monster’ and every other insult, slur or title that had been used on him, it made him flinch ever so slightly at the words. And unlike the other things where his brothers dismissed it as a change caused by his adventure or an increase of maturity, it was something that the others seemed to either not notice or to excuse as situational.
He had adapted though, learned to keep a smile on his face where blankness had once been required in his knightly duties, and the more he wore the mask the easier it was to put on again.
He’d reveled in traveling across time again, in dancing through battles and exploring the world without the Queen reprimanding him in her cold tones to stop wandering off. He’d pushed himself to learn more music in the last adventure, and even if his experience was more with what few instruments Ganon had had time to help him learn, he’d enjoyed sitting down with the others and borrowing one or another instrument to play a tune and sometimes he even got to sing.
He fell to comfortably into his role though, even with the changes, and he hadn’t even noticed when they’d come back to his world. To be fair, it was different in the daytime, and Hyrule had changed so much in the absence of her hero as he hid himself away from the eyes of civilization. Towns and roads had sprung up where there had only been fields before, and the Guardians that had littered the land had all been dug up and hauled to the castle to be either restored or destroyed by the Sheikah, depending on what Queen Zelda decided after she looked at them herself. The world was so different to him, so unlike that which he knew, that he’d failed to keep as alert as he ought to have been when he wandered about an open market with the others, laughing and chattering away with the other younger ones as Time and Legend herded them towards the needed stalls.
It was a traveler that was his downfall, a man who’d seen the Monster Hero and had been among the first to discover the disguise he wore.
No questions were asked when the word spread, and Wild hadn’t caught on to the whispers until a stone had struck his cheek and he was stumbling forwards on the path.
“Wild!” Twilight was at his side in a minute, Time right after him as Legend launched a barrage of insults at the guilty party who’d thrown the thing.
“’m fine.” He was careful to wipe the blood away with his cloak, holding the fabric to the wound to prevent bluish blood seeping down his face and exposing him to his brothers. He wanted to keep them as long as possible and proving himself to be a monster, not even Hylian, would surely have them turning their backs on him.
“Get away from him!” A woman scolded, grabbing ahold of two of the younger heroes while several other shoppers had like ways grabbed Legend and Sky. “Are you dears alright? He didn’t hurt you, did he?”
“Freaking what?” Legend shrieked. “Who’s the injured party here?”
“I’d avoid that thing, son.” A man huffed through a frankly walrus like mustache, eyes hard as they trailed to where Wild stood, cloak still pressed to his cheek as he attempted to wave off a fussing Twilight and Time. “It’s not natural. Sure, it looks like a normal Hylian, but that’s just an effective ruse.”
Another villager nodded. “It’s one of the Calamity’s puppets, a Gerudo-Bastard set on destroying the kingdom!”
“He’s the freaking hero!” Legend shrieked, barely being held back by a steely eyed Sky. “He saved all your freaking asses and all you can do is insult his flipping guts? Who’s the-”
“Enough.” There were few times that Sky’s voice reached levels worse than Twilight’s growls, but the stern command, regal and firm, froze all present as the man stiffened with a cold nod towards the villagers. “I see we are unwelcome here, and with that being the case it would be wise to spend our rupees elsewhere. Legend,” A tug to the boy’s shoulders. “Let’s join the others and be out of their hair. If they cannot be welcoming and kind to our brother than they will not receive our patronage.” And like a swan gathering it’s cygnets, Sky swept down the street, cape fluttering as he ushered the rest of them out of the town and back to the safety of the wilds. The village stared after them with wide eyes, as if they’d just been judged by a breathing god.
The stiffness in Sky’s shoulders faded as they neared the edge of the forest, and instantly the Chosen Hero been tutting over Wild, gently but firmly prying his hand away from his face with a kind smile that almost set Wild at ease. Almost.
“It’s fine, it’s just a scrape.”
“Still.” Sky crooned softly. “I’d rather we clean it up now and make sure it’s nothing worse than let it sit and get infected later.”
And though he’d tried to fight, his single Hylian hand was no match for the firm grip of the Skyloftian, and within minutes his face was exposed to the shocked faces and flickering eyes of his brothers.
“It’s blue...” Wind breathed as Hyrule darted forwards, hands already glowing softly only for them to stutter to a stop over Wild’s skin.
“It’s... Wild, why is your blood- why is-” The healer’s eyes had flickered golden for a moment, wide as they stared up at him. “What happened to you-”
“What the freak!” Legend had startled, blinking in surprise as he stared. “Your eyes are glowing!”
Shit! The healing properties of the arm had already taken affect and it was making everything act up all weird! He shot a glance down at his arm, one hand raising to tangle in the long hair he couldn’t even see at the moment, praying silently beneath his breath that nothing was showing through. It wasn’t, but that didn’t change how Hyrule had come to fixate on his right arm, or how the healer's fingers hovered over it sparking and eyes twinkling as he whispered softly under his breath.
“Wild.” Time had sighed. “I think this one is going to need an explanation.”
All the breath left his lung in instants.
He’d panicked to say the least and Time had eventually shooed the others away to make camp as the eldest hero had sat at his side, waiting silently for him to regulate his breathing. Touch was too much right now, and any attempts from the others to ease him down or help him level out his breathes had only made him panic more. But when at last his blue eyes blinked back to clarity it was to see Time sitting at his side, a gentle tune wafting from the Ocarina at his lips.
“I’m sorry.” He whispered, trying his hardest not to startle Time or otherwise make the situation worse. “I should have said something, I know. I just- missed being Wild and I wanted to come back and be normal and I didn’t want to-”
“It’s alright.” Time’s voice rumbled softly, a single blue eye turning to him with a pained look, even as the man offered him a hint of a smile. “None of us talk about our adventures either.”
“Yes, but you’re people.” He sighed, rubbing the fingers of his glove together. “You’re allowed to choose things.”
There was pain in Time’s voice when their leader answered. “And you’re not?”
“I’m not Hylia anymore.” He whispered. “I don’t count.”
“You count to us.”
“That’s because you don’t know.”
Time shifted, turning to face him fully as the ocarina was set firmly in the grass. “That’s because you’re family and we care. Wild, I don’t care if Demise himself named you the king of the dead, you’re still my kid and Nayru knows I’m not going to let you go without a fight. If that means fighting you, alright, but you’d best better believe that no amount of physical or mental changes will break the bonds we all have with you.”
Something, something damaged and crushed and stitched up and torn open again clenched inside of him, tears pricking at his eyes as he stared up at Time’s royal blue gaze. “W-what?”
“You could be granted godhood, made a monster, I don’t care. You’re ours and you’ll have to deal with that.” Time smiled, warm even with the pain in his eyes as he looked down at him. “So how about you start again, maybe with the facts rather than the insults. Or,” Time softened, brows furrowing lightly. “If you want, we can just sit here and you can choose to talk about this later. We do need to know, so we can help you and keep you safe, but you don’t have to tell us right now. You can take some time to figure out what you want to say if you need.”
And, well, shoot him, but Time’s arms had always been a safe place and there was one thing he’d wanted more than anything since he had come back. Wild threw himself into his grand-mentor's arms with a soft sob, clutching tightly to the other, ignoring the armor and its sharp points and awkward shapes as he tried to hold back all the emotions swirling in his chest.
Time’s arms folding around him broke the floodgates though, and when the man’s hand had stroked through his shortened hair, he’d had to bury his face in Tim’s neck to muffle his sobs.
“There, there,” Time hummed softly, rocking slowly as he held the broken wild hero. “Let it out, little one. I have you, I’ve got you and I’m not letting anyone hurt you.”

Kass gave Link a warm smile, the early morning sun dipping him in honey and making his smile glow even more. “Well, this is quite out of the blue. Not even a ‘hello?’ Much less a ‘please?’”
Link’s lips snapped into a flustered frown. “I’m sorry,” he frantically signed. “Please, could you teach me?”
After throwing his head back to bellow a laugh, Kass chuckled, “I am only messing with you, my friend. Do not worry.” He patted the spot next to him on the landing where he sat, signaling Link to sit by him. “I’m curious about what song you want to play. Which is it?”
Accepting the invitation to sit next to Kass, Link kept his head down as he shuffled over. His eyes flicked around and his cheeks started to redden the slightest bit. Why the answer embarrassed him so much, he wasn’t so sure, but it was hard to get his reply out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Ah,” Kass said with his smile still prominent on his beak as he set his accordion down next to him. “Do you mean to learn the other Champions’ songs as well?”
Link breathed in through his teeth and shrugged. “Maybe. But I want to learn Revali’s right now if I can...”
Kass looked down at him with raised eyebrows, as if gently urging him to elaborate.
With that, Link rubbed the back of his neck and shrugged again. “Well...I don’t know. I had some memories come to me, but they’re foggy and I can barely understand them. But, something is telling me today is Revali’s…” His hand dropped and his brow furrowed in thought. He knew the sign for the Hylian term but didn’t know it for the Rito if there even was one for it. Opting to fingerspell, Link spelled it out with his fingers as Kass read it closely.
When he was finished, Kass’s beak hung open a little in interest. “Oh, so today is Champion Revali’s Hatchday? I had no idea.”
“Yeah, I…”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“...I think so.”
“You mean to play his song in his memory today?”
Link’s cheeks burned brighter. “Is that stupid?”
“Oh, no. Not in the slightest,” Kass assured, waving his hand. “In fact, I think it’s a lovely idea.”
“...Thanks. I don’t know what else I would do anyway. If there was something, I don’t remember it,” Link said, his hands moving slowly. His mind drifted; not that there was anywhere for it to go after his century-long sleep practically wiped it clean.
He brought himself back to where he was with a sigh. “I don’t know. I would do something or leave him a gift, but I remember next to nothing about him. I don’t remember what he liked or even what he hated. Nothing...”
It was true. There were only a couple of clear memories of Revali that Link remembered now. Only a few moments where Link could see his face and hear his voice clearly. And then there were even more blurry, foggy images of him that were slowly trickling in and left Link with more questions than answers. Leaving him feeling like there was so much more that he was missing. Almost like he was missing an important part of himself; of what his life had been before Calamity Ganon struck.
Really, it was the same thing with everyone; with Zelda, Mipha, Urbosa, and Daruk. Brief memories, some clear and some so hazy they were beyond recognition.
But with Revali, it was somehow different. It hurt more. It was severely more painful. It made both his heart and head ache. And he had no idea why it was the case for Revali out of all of them. Why the one who seemed to like him the least, or even hated him, made Link feel this longing...No, this need...to remember and know him like he used to. However it had been.
Still, even though his mind was riddled by all sorts of questions he couldn’t answer after forgetting everything but his own name…
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Something within him couldn’t quite let itself completely forget.
“But I know that I have to do something for him and this is all I can think of,” Link finished, taking his time with every hand motion as he stared down at the lake below them; the surface of the water was almost black with the light of the morning sun not having reached it yet.
Noticing the gloom that was beginning to dawn on Link again, Kass leaned over and spoke up in a chipper voice. “It is more than a generous gift. Do not sell yourself short. I’m sure that if he is still there to listen, he will be grateful.”
Link forced a small smile to give to Kass. “Thank you. I hope you’re right.”
Kass let the corners of his beak curl all the way up to try and settle whatever troubles he thought Link had. “I must say though, I did not take you for the musical type,” he began. “What does a man like you play?”
Letting out a short hum, Link fumbled around in the small bag on his belt to show the instrument in question. Once he fished it out, he held it out for Kass to see.
It was an ocarina he had come across in his travels. His curiosity had driven him to buy it with the extra rupees he had on hand when he saw it amongst Beedle’s wares. Though, it wasn’t until he actually held it and felt the cool ceramic touch on his skin and the shape in his hands, did he realize it was not so much curiosity as it was familiarity. Or something close to it.
Tumblr media
And again, it was proven to Link that while his head was clear of what made him himself in the past, there were many things that his body seemed to remember. Muscle memory helped him ride horses like a pro straight away, and instinct along with that allowed him to fight the way he had before without needing to relearn much of anything. It was the same sort of thing for the ocarina; as soon as he brought the mouthpiece to his lips, his fingers knew exactly where to go to play notes he didn’t remember and songs he couldn’t recall. It all came to him naturally as if playing it was once something that was ingrained in him. And he found himself occasionally fiddling with it until now. Too busy to really sit down and learn anything new, but playing what his lips and fingers remembered when he had a moment to himself.
If Link couldn’t leave Revali a proper gift on his Hatchday, then at least he could play his song, one of the last things the world had left to remember him by. Whether it was for Revali himself, if he was still there, or if it was in his memory on his day.
Or, even if it was just for Link; a way to remember Revali with what little he had left.
Hopefully, it would be enough. But it definitely didn’t feel like it, even if it was all he could really do.
“An ocarina certainly does suit you,” Kass said, looking at the instrument in Link’s hands before peering at him and pointing at it. “Ah, may I?”
Link nodded, allowing Kass to take the ocarina in his hands and examine it himself.
“Can you play it, too?” Link asked.
Tittering, Kass replied, “Well, Rito aren’t exactly equipped to play wind instruments, considering our anatomy.” He tapped his beak. “Though, I think once I found a way around it to make it work with this blasted thing on my face. Would you mind if I tried?”
Link’s lips tightly creased together to keep him from smirking as he shook his head and motioned toward the ocarina. He watched as Kass brought it to his beak, which clacked against the ceramic as he tried to find the best position.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kass’ feathers ruffled; clearly, he was flustered, but he tried his best to get past it by laughing it off. “Well, this is certainly humbling. This proves that no matter how esteemed of a bard I may be, I simply cannot master everything...What with my pesky beak and less than graceful fingers.” He rubbed the mouthpiece of the ocarina on his scarf before handing it back to Link.
With how much spit he saw flying from Kass when he was trying the ocarina, Link decided to rub it again on his clothes for good measure.
Kass let out another embarrassed chuckle and twisted around to grab his accordion. “I might not be able to give you direction, but I can teach you the notes.”
Link nodded. “That works,” he said, his last words before readying his hands to focus on his ocarina rather than on speaking.
Smiling while he slid his hands through his instrument’s straps, Kass said, “Well, let’s begin then.”
~
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Link opened his mouth to say something, finding himself gaping at Vah Medoh, but clamped it shut again. He attached the ocarina to his belt for a moment to speak with his hands.
Whether he was really alone or if there was still someone there to see him, he was not sure at all. After the defeat of Ganon, he was never sure what happened to Revali or the others.
Even so...he had the feeling he wasn’t quite alone.
But maybe that was just him being hopeful. Hopeful that he wasn’t just making a fool of himself. Grasping at straws for nothing.
“Hi.” Instantly, he cringed at himself and hissed through his teeth. Now he really felt stupid. Nonetheless, he made himself go on. “I’m not sure if you’re even here right now or if I’m talking to myself. But, either way-“ Link took a second to swallow and fix his eyes back down to the ground beneath him. “I wish I could say I remember you. There are only little things I remember, but something is telling me there’s so much more to you...to us...that I’m still missing.”
Link licked his lips. He hoped that he was, in fact, alone, so Revali wouldn’t be seeing him rambling on to himself.
“But I know that we were close somehow. I feel that, once, you were the most important thing to me, but that’s all I know. I’m sorry.” He bit his lip that was still wet from when he licked them. “That’s why when I remembered it was your birthday-“ Link froze, then corrected, “Sorry, hatchday...I knew I had to do something for you, because, in a way, you still matter to me now as much as you did before. But you’re still a mystery to me; I know nothing about you further than you being a Champion and being the pride of your people.” He laughed a little to himself. “And that you didn’t like me at all. At first, at least. I’m not sure.”
Finally, he racked up the courage to look back up at Vah Medoh. “I do know your song though, which I’m sure you’d like to know is played by bards to keep your memory alive. I’m not one of those at all, but I can just barely remember how to play this thing and Kass taught me how to play your song. One of the things of yours that’s still here- Even if these are all the memories I can ever have of you, at least I can have this. And your bow, too.”
Nervously, he started to chuckle to himself. “I don’t know what I’m saying. Maybe I never should’ve said anything. Anyway, the point is...I know it’s a crummy present and I don’t know if you’re even still here to listen, but I learned how to play your song for you.”
Done with his monologue, Link anxiously took the ocarina off of his belt. For a moment, he stared at it and focused on the cool touch of it in his hand before slowly bringing it up to his mouth. He took in a deep breath while his fingers went to their places and he played what he learned for Revali.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dormant, Vah Medoh said nothing in reply, leaving Revali alone to revel in both Link’s appearance and song. That was fine. He honestly hadn’t expected her to reply anyway.
Even when he couldn’t even remember him, Link was still annoyingly sentimental. It brought bittersweet comfort that, even with everything that had happened, it was still the same Link before him. His Link.
He had the same golden hair he used to run his fingers through. The same lustrous, sapphire eyes he used to stare into. The same quiet laugh that warmed Revali’s heart. The same strength that Revali both envied and once fell in love with. The same kindness. The same courage. The same everything. Every little thing Revali loved and even hated about him was still there, down below, playing a song for someone he didn’t even know anymore.
Still, it hurt knowing Link didn’t know him. Seeing no recollection on his face when Link first came to Vah Medoh...Seeing Link looking at him as if he was a stranger…
Well, it nearly broke his heart. To be eventually forgotten by his people was worse enough, but then to have the one he loved come back to him only to forget him, too…
Revali sniffed, resting his hand under his chin to watch Link far down below.
Link was right. This was a crummy present. His finger clumsily fumbled around and he kept blowing into the ocarina’s mouthpiece too hard or too soft. Even from here, he could see his spit flying. Funny how, even over a hundred years later, he never did get better with that thing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He really was still his Link. Just how he remembered him. Just how he loved him. How he would, unfortunately, always love him. Even if it meant being unrequited for the rest of time.

A happy birthday to @linktheacehero !! I hope you like it!
The blue ocarina gleamed with a glass-like sheen. It reflected the clouds surrounding it with just enough opacity that it captured the stillness of the moment.
Link felt cold in these sun-kissed clouds, these blue skies without a hint of gray. He felt cold in ways he shouldn’t, ways he didn’t in the ice cavern where he could see his breaths. He couldn’t see his breaths here, but they felt heavier, like each one had a weight to them he couldn’t control. He looked down at the ocarina in his hands.
“Link?” He heard her ask, repeating herself as if he didn’t hear the first time. “The ocarina?”
He moved his thumb along the smooth surface of the instrument.
“I’m sorry, I…” He continued to hesitate, not daring to look up at her. “I won’t go back…I can’t.”
His heart throbbed in his chest.
“Link,” she said. “Please allow me to make up for all I’ve done to you. You can relive those seven years, those seven years and all the other time spent in dangerous places fixing my mess. You can have a childhood, you can forget all this.”
Link nodded in understanding.
“And you?” He asked, finally looking up at her. Her blue eyes were just as sad as before. “You’ll…”
He pursed his lips as he shook his head and shrugged. He was never one for words. He bit his tongue. Perhaps he should have done that earlier. Eyes downcast, he gave her the ocarina, yet his eyes flitted upwards when instead of taking it, she rested her gentle, gloved hands around his.
“I will miss you dearly,” she insisted, eyes boring into his. “But your happiness after everything you’ve been through is far more important.”
Link’s brow furrowed, obviously upset by the notion.
“What about yours?”
“Mine?” she asked, as if she hadn’t even considered it. She gave a light chuckle at the insanity of it. Link took his free hand and covered it with hers. There were so many questions he wanted to ask, and so many ways he wanted to ask them. The only problem was, he didn’t know how. His lips parted, but no sound came out.
Would I make you happy?
Would I make you happy?
Would I make you as happy as you make me?
But before he could gain the courage to say it out loud, his heart led him to her lips like the sword led him into danger.
Zelda’s eyes were wide, and Link’s were closed. The chaste kiss lasted a few seconds, and Zelda panted when she was released, cheeks as pink as her dress and eyes searching him.
As far as first kisses went, that wasn’t too bad.
“Is that a goodbye kiss?” She asked, fear dotting her eyes.
“It doesn’t have to be,” Link said, shaking his head.
She threw her arms around his neck, dropping her hold on the ocarina, her hold on his hands. She kissed him with the passion of a lover and he had to stumble back before he could navigate his surprise enough to invite her lips in.
“I just wanted to give you a second chance,” she explained, breaths mingling with Link’s.
“You are my second chance,” Link replied, eyes melting with the love he was finally able to express.
He closed his eyes to kiss her again, but after that, he didn’t close his eyes until he faced away from Zelda. She had agreed to crash the celebration at Lon Lon Ranch, yet insisted she change into her disguise as Sheik.
“I’m not ready to face them as the princess,” she explained. “I abandoned them for seven years. I can’t imagine them welcoming me with open arms.”
“I did,” Link argued in the moment.
“You’re special,” she reasoned. “I’m done.”
Link turned back around to see the pink, gold-adorned dress replaced with tight, blue fabric that showcased every curve and divot of her sheikah-trained muscles. But for her bangs, her blonde hair was tied back into white wrappings that additionally concealed her mouth and nose and her blue eyes were now red. She spinned around unenthusiastically with her arms out before facing Link again.
“Kind of a downgrade, huh?” Zelda said, as if apologizing to Link. For the first ten years of her life, she was raised to equate femininity with beauty. So, for the past seven, considering her view of herself meant coming to grips with her lack of beauty.
“On the contrary,” Link said. “It’s actually quite flattering.”
The peaks of Zelda’s cheeks teased a blush and a smile. Link took her hand.
“You would look good in anything,” Link said. “And you are the person I fell in love with regardless of what you wear.”
And so Link and Zelda approached the festivities with hands held. For the first time ever, they were able to let loose, simply enjoying the first night of peace. No one batted an eye at their presence, but they were welcome nonetheless. They were treated just like everyone else, and they loved it.
“Would you like to dance?”
It seemed like a question that came from out of the blue, which is why Zelda hesitated, then laughed nervously.
“Dancing isn’t exactly in the Sheikah repertoire,” Zelda explained, excusing herself from the notion. “I would look like a fool.”
“You think I wouldn’t?” Link said with a laugh. The group of Hyrulean citizens caught the corner of his eye. “Look, they are gathering to do the circle dance. All you have to do is be part of the circle.”
“That sounds deceivingly simple,” Zelda observed. Link laughed and grabbed her hand.
“Come on,” he said, yanking her off the ground where she sat. Before she knew it, she was tied into the circle via arms on her shoulders, her own arms on the shoulders of the people she was between. On her left was Link, and on her right was a stranger.
The instructions were simple enough. Brush your right leg across your left, then hop, then do the same with the other leg and walk four steps to your right. Yet, every once in a while she would employ the wrong leg and it would bump into Link’s, our worst, the stranger’s. She was a fit of laughter and apologies. Yet, it was okay, as she was never the only one in the circle who messed up.
The point of the circle dance was not for everyone to be perfect, it was to show that no matter what happened or how you came to be in the circle, there was a consistent unity among them, the way the arms were linked, the way you shared your foibles with your fellow citizens, even if at first they were strangers.
After that night, Zelda warmed up to the idea of revealing herself to Hyrule as Princess Zelda.

modern marco relationship hc’s!
note: gosh, it took me forever to get around to writing these, LOL. my user literally has marco’s name in it but i haven’t written anything about him yet. these are modern so that my boy isn’t dead. (✿◡‿◡) i hope you enjoy! ♡
marco x gn!reader
warnings: none.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
marco is the adorable, soft, boy next door type of guy. the “yes sir, i will have them back home by nine!” kind of boy.
you started dating him in your senior year of high school after jean introduced him to you.
marco had moved recently into the area, and was the new kid at your school. he was super charming and a lot of people had a crush on him when they first met him, regardless of how nerdy he was.
while he was charming and outgoing, he was also pretty shy which made him more appealing.
after you had seen him around the school for the first few times, jean introduced you two, saying that he and marco had gotten along immediately after meeting, and he wanted you to get to know him as well.
after a few weeks of hanging out with marco and getting closer and closer to him.
he had begun to develop a crush on you, so he decided that he would just go for it and ask you out, to which you readily agreed.
marco and you had continued dating after graduating and even went to the same uni, getting your own apartment together after your first year.
again, marco is the softest boy ever. he is absolutely adorable and will treat you like royalty.
he’s an absolute mama’s boy, too, and she taught him to treat everyone he loves with compassion, hence why he treats you so well.
he has a tendency to buy you things that remind him of you. he’ll be out shopping and see some cute stuffed animal and be like, “this reminds me of (y/n)! i have to get it for them.”
he will always greet you with a hug and a kiss when he comes home, or when you come home.
he loves showing affection to you in any way possible, and will always try to tell you how much he loves you.
he gets unbearably shy and soft when he tells you he loves you, blush covering his freckled cheeks. sometimes he tumbles over his words and gets more nervous.
he’s just SO SMITTEN, you make this tiny boy nervous!
you just return his words of endearment and press soft kisses to his face.
marco is the type of boyfie who will call you like really domestic, married couple kinds of pet names. expect a honey, darling, or sweetheart all the time.
marco would also be super into like matching couple looks. he finds it super cute and sweet to wear the same clothes and hold hands in public.
speaking of holding hands? never even try to let go of his hand when he’s holding yours. he will be so pouty and not stop dramatically sighing until you hold his hand again.
will be all smiles and sunshine when you’ve got your hands entwined though!
it’s so comforting and reassuring to him when he has you close, holding his hand.
marco will always kiss you on the top of your head or on your forehead.
as he is ever the gentleman, he will also kiss your knuckles all the time. he loves how romantic and special it feels because no one really does that.
also loves pulling out your chair for you and pushing you in when you go out to eat somewhere!
i personally hc marco as a music major of some sort. i think music therapy would be suiting for him, tbh, so i hc him as a music therapy major.
he just looks like he would be a good singer, and good with music, okay?
i think he would be pretty good at singing, and also would play a few instruments.
he would definitely play the guitar and piano. for fun, he picked up the ocarina and he has a ukulele for the hell of it.
when you’re struggling to fall asleep, he will sing to you and you’ll be asleep almost instantly.
he sometimes writes little songs for you on the guitar or piano that he’ll play for you. if he’s feeling cheeky, he’ll write something silly on the uke and play that for you instead.
the ocarina was honestly a joke at first. jean got him into the legend of zelda games and he’s like “hmm i bet i could learn to play one of those...”
so he ORDERED ONE and then wouldn’t stop playing it? so while it’s not horribly complicated, he picked it up extremely quickly and is very good at it.
fun for times where you go on little adventures or walks in wooded areas and he takes an ocarina he has on a necklace so that he can play you some impromptu tunes on it while you guys relax.
he would also love to teach you how to play any instrument if you were to ask him.
he gets so excited about it, ready to put together full on lessons in order to teach you.
just imagine him sitting down on the piano bench next to you, softly telling you where to put your hands, explaining the keys and being so GENTLE when you mess up.
“remember your hand placements, babe!” and he smiles all cute.
back to the music therapy though, he would try to use that when you’re feeling sad and down.
he would be the best boyfriend when you’re upset, albeit a little annoying, but very good to you.
he would always be helicoptering, unintentionally giving you no space if you needed it.
please don’t yell at him for it though, he’s trying his best to make you feel better and genuinely doesn’t know better. he might cry if you get angry with him. just ask him kindly for time alone.
but when you are not in need of alone time, he will try to help the sadness go away.
whips out some of his music therapy knowledge.
he will sit down with you, talking to you about music that makes you happy and sad, making you think about why that is, and then make a playlist of music that inspires happiness.*
outside off all his music therapy techniques, he will be someone you can lean on and just vent to, letting out all your feelings to him.
he tries his best to be a strong pillar of support for you to lean on.
now, when marco is stressed out, he tends to not notice and needs you to pull him aside to take care of him.
he always overworks himself and just,, doesn’t stop. please pry him away from his work so that he can eat properly and get hydrated.
also give him head scratches when he’s stressed, he will turn into putty. the gently scratching on his scalp almost forces his eyes closed with how good it feels.
nap time with marco is so fun, he likes mountains of blankets covering you two with your bodies entwined beneath them.
cuddling is also so fun because he likes when you guys just like, lay on top of each other.
when you cuddle, he likes holding your hands and pressing kisses to anywhere he can reach on you.
ahhh, kissing him is so sweet, he would never kiss you or even make out with intentions of going beyond just kissing.
his hands always stay above the belt, and he’s honestly so shy and afraid of touching you too intimately.
if you want him to have his hand on your thigh? you’re gonna have to tell him you like that and that you want him to do it more, otherwise he will refrain from doing so.
“marco, you know you can like, put your hands on my hips and thighs, right?” and BLESS this boy, his cheeks would heat up, freckles floating in a sea of pink as he averts his gaze from yours, all shy.
“but i, i just didn’t want to make you uncomfortable or make you feel obligated to do anything.” the literal embodiment of 👉👈.
on the topic of shy, respectful marco, he would ALWAYS ask for a kiss, even after like dating for five years or even being married. he just wants to be sure that you want it!
he would never want you to feel as if he’s forcing himself on you.
marco also gets really awkward and flustered when flirting with you.
if you sit on his lap, it’s his favorite thing. he goes as red as a tomato, but he loves the closeness of the gesture.
same goes for if you pull him onto your lap. the baby will be so, SO flustered, but love every second of it.
he’s the type to nuzzle his face into the crook of your neck while cuddling, or the back of your neck when spooning and he’s the big spoon.
overall, marco is the bestest boyfie, always making sure you’re comfortable and feeling loved. please return the gesture and make sure he feels loved! ♡

Number 35 for Zelink
This is like, criminally short ;-; I'm so sorry
35: kissing their scars and bruises
Scars
Masterlist | Prompt List | Touch Prompts
Words: 658
TW: scars,,, obviously
Ocarina, idk what timeline help
The first time Zelda saw the scars across his back, it wasn’t a big, life changing moment for either of them. It was just like any other night when they retired from their posts, except she’d finished changing before him and caught sight of the white lines across his back in the mirror.
It wasn’t the first time she’d seen his scars, either. She’d seen the scars on his arms and the one on his face. Scars from Termina, scars from earlier adventures. Scars that were carved onto the body of a child and were still prominent on his pale, adult skin. It was quite the contrast to her own, unmarked by the passage of time that’d been so unfairly kind to her. It wasn’t always like that, she knew. When she was his Zelda, the Zelda from the time Ganondorf took over, she had scars, too. Scars from running, scars from training, scars from fighting.
Of course, those scars couldn’t touch her now, in a time so different from that one.
“Zelda?”
She blinked herself out of her thoughts to find Link in front of her, eyebrows furrowed in concern.
“I’m sorry,” she said, letting go of the hair she’d been running her fingers through for the past few minutes.
“Is everything okay?” he asked, kneeling before her and taking her hands. She gave his a gentle tug, urging him to stand and join her on the bed instead.
“Yes, everything’s fine.”
“You were staring.”
Zelda smiled and pressed her hand to his cheek, reveling in the way he turned his head just enough to press a kiss to her palm.
“My apologies, again. You know I love stories.”
The bed shifted when he took his seat on it with his back to her. This was routine for them, so she’d discovered with the ones on his arms. He didn’t seem to mind recounting his tales so much when she was there, sitting just beside, tracing her fingertips gently over the harsh lines. They all had a story to tell.
“That one,” he began, reaching back to tap her knee twice, signaling she was already touching the one he meant to recount, “is from a Dinofols back in Termina.”
“I can't say I'm familiar with them,” Zelda replied, tilting her head. “Some distant relative of Lizalfos, perhaps?”
“Clever girl.”
He always called her that. She ducked her head to hide her smile, but he couldn’t see her anyway.
“An educated guess at best,” she corrected and switched hands, continuing to draw shapes onto the scar with her finger.
“This one was... a bit of an odd encounter, actually, more recent,” he began. “They’re tall, and they do resemble Lizalfos, just… worse. I’m not sure how I came across it. I was leaving Termina, and I don’t know why it would be so far from their natural habitats.”
“Strange,” Zelda voiced, leaning her head against his shoulder. “But we’ve seen stranger.”
“It snuck up on me. There’s really no story to tell this time. They’ve got nasty blades, though.”
“It looks painful.”
“Not anymore.”
She hummed softly and pressed a kiss to the scar. It would do nothing to heal it, to make it disappear, but that was alright. He didn’t seem to be plagued by them, at least not as much as he used to be. It was heartwarming, the development they’d made.
“You’ll put me to sleep if you keep that up,” he spoke again. Zelda laughed quietly, reaching a hand up to thread through his hair.
“It’s late,” she pointed out. “Come on.”
And so the Hero of Time took his place on the bed, tucking the pillow under his head, and Zelda resumed drawing gentle shapes over the scars on his back. Even to this day, they owed him so much. If the best way she could thank him was to sit besides him and kiss his scars until he drifted off to sleep, then she would.

A fic where Ocarina of Time is a big time loop, instead of splitting the timeline. (post MM) Link meets Sheik in the Lost Woods. (some big OoT Spoilers)
A sequel to Time & Time Again (It isn’t 100% required to read it to understand this tho)
Ao3
--
The woods were unusually quiet. He heard no laughter or song of the Korkiri. It made it harder to travel through the Lost Woods than usual. But he knew his forest. Link traced his fingers along the rough bark of some of the trees. "This way" the forest whispered. It was difficult to understand, like catching the fog. But the forest knew him. The forest was kind to it's children.
He kept his eyes trained on the canopy, hoping for some fresh food to bring back to the village. As long as it wasn't magic, he imagined the forest wouldn't mind. It hadn't actively tried to stop him. It clearly understood his intentions.
He heard a soft rustle in a nearby bush. He pulled out his sword, inching closer. The stranger to the forest heard him in return. Sheik lept out of the bushes, blocking his sword arm and sending him flying backwards with a kick. Link barely managed to shift into a tumble and regain his footing.
He took in a breath, analyzing his opponent. (No, his old friend.) Blood rushed in his ears. A drum of battle he was all too familiar with. He felt like a tightly coiled spring, either about to snap or leap away. He smothered the realization he had started automatically looking for weak points. (It was Sheik, not an enemy. Not a demon or monster.)
The Sheikah meanwhile, had shifted into a ready stance, eyes widening as he actually looked at Link. They stared at each other. Tense. Sheik was looking at him as if just waiting for him to strike.
A familiar feeling crinkled against his chest and into his throat. Uncomfortable and raw. Sheik was scared of him. Sheik was created to fight and hide. Of course he expected Link, a stranger by all accounts, to attack. Link sheathed his sword with a sigh, forcing himself to loosen his posture. The grass swayed against his feet, soothing, reassuring.
It was quiet for a moment too long.
“Lost?” he asked.
Sheik tilted his chin up, as if affronted by the implication, “...No, of course not.”
"Ah, of course not.... I will have to see you in town later sometime then." Link said, beginning to walk away. Careful to be slow enough for Sheik to have plenty of time to make his choice.
"Wait!" Sheik, raced after him, eyes flickering around the trees, “What are you doing out here? These woods aren’t the safest place to be wandering.”
Link glanced backwards at him, shrugging, “Gathering things for the villagers in Kakarikio.” He hitched up his backpack higher on his shoulder. He could feel the blond’s eyes watching him, analyzing him.
“Who are you?”
“A traveler,” Link said.
“Oh, how specific,” he muttered sarcastically. Sheik was suddenly in front of him, walking backwards. Red eyes flickered across his face. “I thought you looked like that to get me to lower my guard but... you-” Sheik poked his nose. Link leaned back, ears flicking involuntarily.
“What was that for?” Link huffed, ignoring the smile that tugged at the corners of his mouth. “My face is my actual face, yes.”
Sheik grabbed his hand, looking at the glow of the triforce. Link frowned at his hand. That hadn't happened in a long time. He barely registered they had halted. Just the ominous thump in his chest as he stared at the glowing force. Sheik looked up at him, “Link?”
He jolted his head up to look at Sheik. His red eyes were wide, expextant...hopeful. He nodded, “Nice to see you again, Sheik.”
“Are you- ....From the future?” Sheik whispered, eyes tracing the scars on his face with a light frown.
“Er...” Link hummed, “Yes and no? This is my second time around in this particular part of time. Grew up the normal way this time though.”
Sheik gasped, “So you did it? You won?”
Link just smiled and started foraging again. Sheik followed him.
“How? Are you here to help? You know what happens, right?”
“I don’t think learning too much about your future is particularly wise, oh carrier of the Triforce of Wisdom.”
“But if you help can’t we get this over with so much faster?” Sheik grabbed his arm, pulling him to yet another halt. He stared into his eyes, searching, “You can’t tell me you’re just here to gather things.”
“I tried to stop it from happening before, when I was a child. It didn’t do anything. If anything it made things worse...” Link sighed, “Your people need outside aid, your Highness. I can’t...won't help defeat Ganon this time, but I can gather supplies.”
Sheik let go of his arm, and to his surprise, tugged down the face mask. “You know who I am.”
“Yes, Sheik, don’t worry about it. I won’t tell.”
Sheik looked down at the ground. “Thank you,” he whispered.
He shrugged. "Besides. I think I prefer your hair like this. Very adventure-chic. Or should I say adventure-Sheik?”
The blond gasped, blushing. He punched his shoulder. (It bruised a little, admittedly.) “That’s horrible.”
“You’re one to talk. Don’t you have some poetry to recite for Mini Me?”
“Mini?” Sheik giggled, “You both look basically the same.”
“I gotta call him something.” Link shrugged, “The phrase ‘my younger self’ is a bit long.”
“Try harder.” He hummed, “Besides, my poems are brilliant.”
“Never said they weren’t.”
Sheik shook his head with some sense of amusement. That amusement faded as he glanced up at his face again. “...Are those...”
“From Ganon? No.” Link said, “I had a very interesting little adventure all on my own in Termina.” He glanced in the direction of the other country, wind fluttering through the leaves. “Most of the scars from Ganon disappeared when I was sent back in time.”
It was Zelda’s voice, not Sheik’s, that spoke next. “I... I’m sorry. That I roped you into- all of this. You deserved a... kinder childhood.”
Link stared at the ground. He took a moment to find his voice, “...So did you.”
Zelda stared at him, eyes round and wide. Her hands fidgeted, clasped in front of her. Lost for what to do or say, she tugged up the face mask. Sheik bowed gently, “I thank you for everything, Link of the Future."
“Grasshopper.”
“Huh?” Sheik blinked.
“If you needed a name to differentiate me and the kid. That’s the name he knows me by.”
Sheik snorted, “I’m not calling you that."
Link shrugged. His ears flicked as he picked up the light bell like ting of a fairy. The specific tone he'd know anywhere. "...Did you need to find the Forest Temple?"
Sheik glanced around, quiet for a moment, "I can always use magic to get there.... If I was lost. Which I'm not."
"But you want to do that cool entrance, right?"
Sheik shuffled his feet, "You think- thought it was cool?"
Link just chuckled, "Follow me," Link said, walking ahead.
"Seriously did you think it was cool? What did I do?"
"You already have it planned why would I tell you what you're going to do?"
"What if it's different and what I actually did was cooler than what I think I should do?"
"That makes no sense."
"Just tell me and I'll tell you if that's what I originally had in mind. Do you still remember my poem?"
"It was 7 years ago from my perspective. You expect me to remember exactly what you said and did?"
"....But you remember it was cool."
"Never said that."
"You implied it strongly."
Link laughed, and the Forest giggled with him. A chorus of rustling leaves. It remembered him as well as he remembered it, it seemed. He traced a finger along bark as he watched the forest unfold itself for him. "Sorry," he hoped to say through the gentle touch, "Sorry I took so long to come home."

enemies to lovers + modern au + romantic tragicomedia feat Levi, Reiner and Zeke.
w: maybe implicit sex mentions on zeke's, nothing important.
a/n: the starting of the one shot is the same for the three characters, but the ends change!! also i’m not gonna lie, i wrote the tension scenes listening to the gerudo valley theme from the legend of zelda: ocarina of time lol also, on zeke's end i took the prompt that they already make uo with esch other but they have a playful hate (like fake rivality)

Your university’s debate team is recognized everywhere. It’s a really prestigious one, and you, as its captain, are always praised by other professionals. Since you’re captain, you have won against a lot of teams from different universities and even different countries, but you never won against the team that Levi Ackerman commands.
“Isn’t this the Ackerman team?” Pieck asks, showing you a piece of paper. Your university is called to participate on a debate night on the south of the country. And your rivals that night is Levi’s team.
Even when you never compite against him, you know him too well. He used to be in the same high school as you, leading the debate team since he’s just a teenager. He doesn't know you since you two never talked. The day comes fast and you’re looking through the window, with Pieck sitting on your side seat and Porco looking through the space between the two seats, that way he can speak to you two. He looks unamused. “Is that team that good? I only hear good comments towards us.” Zeke nods from the teacher's seat.
"Yeah, and guys, we're going to mash them and take the trophy home"
"But they're older?"
“They are older. Not a lot, maybe a year, but they play on another league” you say. You’re quite nervous, this encounter will maybe decide the future of your team. If your team wins, you’ll be officially the best debate team among your country’s universities. You have to win this.
The place were you all stay is big and comfortable. You share a room with Pieck in the first floor, while Reiner and Porco have to share the other upstairs. You can hear how Porco curses and Reiner announcement of “Uno” while they play cards. Zeke is probably smoking outside.
“I think I’m going for a shower” You nod and Pieck gets all her things, heading to the public bath downstairs. You put a sweater on top of your clothes and go outside to explore a bit. Your team is pretty good, and they all follow your commands. Except Reiner. He wanted to be the leader so bad... He has kinda rivalry towards you since you got the title of leader. He has been bittersweet about it.
The gardens are really pretty, with a huge fountain in the middle. There you see Levi, talking to a blonde man, looking at him with maybe concern. You can’t really tell since they are far and the water that falls from the fountain difficults your vision. They are talking, but you can’t hear about what. The blonde man moves and you see the card hanging from his neck. He is a professor.
You turn around and make you way back silently, trying to not grab their attention in any way. You don’t want to meet Levi, you’re sure you’ll feel intimidated and you want to make Reiner know that you’re totally valid as a leader.
Wait, then, shouldn’t you show Levi you have no fear into competing against him tomorrow? Isn’t it what a leader makes?
You turn around again and walk towards the two boys. Levi sees you first.
“Y/N?” he asks. Does he remember your name? You nod once you’re near them.
“Sorry for interrupting your conversation.” You look between the black haired and the blonde man, who’s smiling politely at you. You can read his name on his card: Erwin Smith.
“Don’t worry!” he smiles. You hear how Levi sighs. “So you’re the captain of the other team, aren’t you?” You nod.
“Yes, Smith.” He laughs quietly and shakes his hands in front of you.
“No, please. You can call me Erwin.” He says. You nod, understanding.
"Are you and your team ready for tomorrow?" Levi asks. You nod quietly. If Reiner was the leader, he for sure would be intimidating and making them see you're not afraid to compite towards them. You smile.
"I wanted to comprte towards your team. It's one of the strongest."
"The strongest, actually." the teacher corrects you, wining a bad look from the boy. He clicks his tongue. "You should go and sleep, y/n" he says. "There's a long journey tomorrow." you nod and, bowing to the teacher and nodding to the boy, you leave the place.
When you arrive, Pieck was already there.
"Nice to see you, y/n. Porco has invited us to have dinner!" she says. That's why she is dressing so good. "Come on, let's go!"
The two boys are already sitting when you arrive. Porco smiles at you two while Reiner looks to another place, without making eye contact with you. For your bad luck, the only chair left is in front of him. Pieck invites you to sit. She thinks your rivalry with him is just a childish thing. But he's the one that doesn't want to admit that you're also a good leader. You sit and look at the menu as if it was the most important thing ever.
"Hey, cap!" Porco calls you. "Did you saw the other team? Aren't they scary?" he says. You shake your head.
"Actually I talked a bit to them. They're nice."
"But they are the rivals." Reiner interrupts. "Making new friends?" he asks. You don't know why the sweet Reiner became this cold towards you just because of a fucking captany. You wanted everything back.
"Reiner could you accompany me outside?" you ask. He looks at you.
"The waiter is here, sit down." Pieck says.
"We'll talk tomorrow. After the debate."
The dinner was a little awkward but Pieck filled it with jokes and support for tomorrow. Porco and Reiner went back to their dorm and so you did. Tomorrow, the debate was going to be intense.
That evening, you were sitting on a huge auditorium, on top of the stage, on four chairs with your university logo on them. In the other team, Levi was accompanied by three more people: a person with glasses and a ponytail, a tall and blonde boy and a short-haired girl. That was his team. Zeke, now accompanied by the blonde man, shows his thumbs to you.
"Let's start the debate night! Levi, do you think we should keep teaching civic valuations on the universuty?"
The debate goes fast. Their arguments easily get rid of yours. It is difficult to win, and even more with that girl on their team. Petra. She's fast and smart, as much as her captain. You were also out of arguments, defending that you should not learn more civic values was really hard. Thats how you lost.
Reiner's end
You took a shower after the debate. You sigh with all the water running down your body.
"Why the hell has to be random. If we could choose..." You dry your head with a towel back in your dorm, with Pieck packing all her things to leave tomorrow morning, really early.
"Well, that's life, y/n. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose." she says. You nod. "Didn't you told Reiner to talk to you now" You nod again. Even when she hates it. "Then go. I listened his steps ten minutes ago. He's in the terrace for sure." You dry your hair a little bit and go downstairs to the terrace. Of course, he's there, with a jacket covering his body. You've entered the debate club because of him. You had an enormous crush on the blonde boy, and he always seemed so sweet and polite you fell even more for him.
Then Zeke told you to be the captain and he changed. Fucking captany.
"Captain, I think punctuality is a quality all captains should have." he says, without turning around or facing you. You took place on his side, your arms on the cold metal of the railing. The brise moves your hair quietly.
"I took a shower." you simply say.
"You should dry your hair or you'll get a cold." he says. You sigh.
"Listen, Reiner. I don't know what changed in you ti became so cold or..."
"In me?" he asks. "Nothing changed in me. Maybe is you the one who changed." he says. You look at him with surprise.
"Me?"
"Yes, you. You started to care more for the group that for yourself. You cared for me a lot, and you always stayed until late to make my arguments. You started to forget yourself to take care of us."
"And why the hell you acted like that, Rein!" you ask, yelling to him.
"I thought that maybe if you lost the interest in me you'll start to take care of yourself!" he says. "I didn't want you to stop sleeping for me. I didn't want to see how you mistreated yourself." He sighs, and he takes his jacket out and puts it around your shoulders. He sighs. "You're going to catch a cold."
You're freeze, but not because of the cold. Did he admit...?
"So you cared for me?" you ask in a whisper. He sighs once again and looke to the sky.
"How shouldn't i care for the person I like? Because I like you."
His arms accompanied his jacket around your shoulders, and you smelled his sweet cologne when he hugged you.
"Maybe it's one sided, but..."
"It isn't." you whisper. Was he acting cold just to protect you?
"Hm? Louder, please." he asks. You grab his face between your hands before standing on your tip toes and collide your lips with his.
"I said." you whisper once you part for air. "That it wasn't a one sided love."
Levi's end
He approached you when you where helping to put everything on its place.
"Nice debate, y/n" He says quietly. You smile at him.
"Congratulations, Levi. You won."
He smiles.
"You're a really strong rival. It wasn't easy to win." he says.
"Oh, come on!" you take your things and start walking towards the exit. He follows you quietly. "You're all so smart and fast for this thing. We bite the dust." he laughs a little. The night is calm and there's not much air. You look at the fountain."It was a cool experience. Meet another people, travel with your mates..." you say. Levi nods.
"Yes. Actually, we have a night and half a morning left." you nod. It's true. Your bus picks you all up at 8 am.
"We could... hm.... like." he looks around. "Go dinner tonight." he says finally. You smile brightly.
"Of course! let me call the res..."
"No." he interrupts you. "Just... The two of us." his cheeks are blushing a bit. He doesn't seem like the boy from yesterday, the one that teased his teacher and rolled his eyes. "I would like to know more about you, if you agree." he says. You look at him. He's handsome. And intelligent. He also awakens your curiosity.
"Fine. Let's go for that dinner."
Zeke's end
Zeke was waiting for you on the main entrance of the camping. He smiled, throwing away his cigarette.
"You looked gorgeous on that stage." he says once you arrive. You roll your eyes. He takes your waist and draws you closer to his body. An attempt to kiss you.
"Wait, Jaeger. We're in the main entrance. Everybody could watch."
"Free spectacle, they couldn't ask for more." he says. You roll your eyes again, taking his hand and guiding him until your back finds the wall. Then, he cages you and, leaning on, he kisses you. He tastes like a cigarette and smells to vanilla. That's one of the things you love about him. How his sweet scent doesn't match with his appareance.
"You made it so well... maybe you need a trophy." he jokes.
"Do I have to call you "teacher" during it?" you joke back. He looks intensely at you, as if you awakened something on him.
"Actually is not a bad idea. Hearing you calling me "teacher" makes things funnier, don't you think?" he talks against your mouth.
You smile before taking him closer again, kissing him for the second time, but not the last.
The night is young yet.
