Skektember 1 : the colleague

Ok this year I tried to leave my artblock by doing Skektember for the first time ! Sadly it didn't truly work because even though I drew all 10 prompts made by SkekLa, I was sooo "blocked" it took me veeeery long to sketch and ink them and now I wouldn't ever have the time to color so even if I had planned to well black and white with red pen at times it is. This year's theme was having TDC OCs (or just one the whole time more) interacting with canon Skeksis according to 10 prompts, so 10 canon Skeksis with an OC whose relationship fits the day's prompt. The thing is I have most of my OCs, ESPECIALLY Skeksis, only in mine and @dracocheesecake's Natives AU, because since in canon there were only 18 UrSeks sent on Thra, so a precise number, I never felt like making more or it would contradict (sure I do rewrite or ignore some canon or semicanon trivias but this one is important to the worldbuilding and lore so I can't). So a good opportunity to draw characters from that AU either again or for a first time !

We start with SkekTek and his colleague, SkekLoom the Doctor, co-created with Draco. In canon, SkekTek isn't a doctor but does a doctor job despite not being a real expert at that (he does a shit job diagnosing SkekMal), he does science he doesn't heal that's not his job. In the AU, no need for these distractions from his work, SkekLoom is the one who heals everyone, diagnoses, helps delivering Skeklings etc. And he is treated as much as shit if not more as SkekTek since unlike him he isn't even a courtier and is taken for even more granted than SkekTek who even if treated like shit for being a commoner still did contribute to the empire with his inventions keeping him trapped in his illusions to be respected and recognized again. SkekLoom in fact is always gloomy and Squidward mode, even barely aknowledged by anyone, so why hoping for more ? He hates his life. But at least he and SkekTek are on cordial terms. Not friends, but 2 Skeksis of the same background and of a form of science. They both studied anatomy, and can in fact exchange their works and discuss observations they made on dead prisonners or slaves after an autopsy to help their fields progress and know more. At least someone does value their work, each think

How Skeksis Dream-Fasting in my AU works:

In my Au story on Ao3 I recently introduced the idea that Skeksis have their own version of Dream-fasting after I got the idea brought up to me by a friend. In this blog I will talk about how that is possible with how I’m handling it. So first of all for it to work, Aughra must be preset in order to link the Skeksis that want to talk in this way via their minds. She may not always enter the dream herself but it is the only way a Dream-fast between Skeksis will form. Whichever Skeksis that Aughra is with will tell her who he or she wants brought into his or her mind and she will magically make those or if it’s simply one Skeksis she’ll bring that one Skeksis into the mind of the Skeksis she is with at the time. In Dream-Fast or Dream Space the said Skeksis will always be pulled into the Chamber of the Crystal. Aughra has made this come with a price however. Should a Skeksis be talking with their mate in a Dream-Fast or Dream Space sequence they will be magically linked almost like a Skeksis-UrRu link.

As an example, in the story once SkekSha has her Dream Space sequence with Aughra and SkekSo both present, Aughra magically links their minds. Meaning one will always feel what the other feels, where the other is and know what the other thinks. Again very similar to the Skeksis-UrRu link.

I guess now would also be a good time to talk about a Mother Skeksis and Skekling bond thoroughly too. When a Skekling is born a magical link immediately forms between that Skekling and their mother. Wether it’s Thra itself doing it or the strong instinct a mother Skeksis immediately has to protect and care for her Skeklings is sort of a mystery. Once this link forms (usually when the mother is cleaning her Skeklings the moment after they are born so pretty much from the first touch a Skekling feels from their mother) it is a bond and link that will carry throughout the lives of the mother Skeksis and her Skeklings until their deaths. A magical link can also form between the Skeklings themselves.

This same link also happens between Mystic mothers and their Mystlings too. In terms of Skeklings and Mystling links often times when a Skekling is born so is their Mystic counterpart.

I just thought these would be interesting topics worth talking about from my fanfic so you guys have a better idea.

I'm still thinking which century he was born in, but leaning towards the late 1800s. Skekhol is fine with murder until blood and brain matter touches his skin and clothes.

He makes Skekung jealous because Hol can pull off a beard better than he can.

Since skekEw and the triplets had to flee the castle for their safety (since the skeksis went mad with essence) it's been hard searching for a decent meal for the four of them while avoiding the many dangers. One day he smelled an easy meal and happens upon Jen and Kira's picnic. :)

6. What do they smell like?

You know Those Parts of lakes or rivers, where there’s a ton of plant growth for whatever reason? That smell of water, overwhelmingly, but something foreign and vegetative, perhaps with a touch of rot in there somewhere? Like that.

10. What is a weird quality that they have (ie their hands are always cold, they’re always hungry, they snort when they laugh, etc)?

Aln is half water elemental on his mother’s side, and as such, displays some traits that go with his lineage. The most noticeable of which is that his hair is nearly always some form of wet. That’s why it always retains that stringy look, and why the green dye runs out of his hair so fast. It also acts as a kind of mood indicator, the more stressed he is, the more water he produces.

Natives AU: SkekMi the Storyteller

One night long ago, SkekLi the Satrist had visited the Skeksis Castle after many trine spent traveling and performing abroad. It was said, due to his grand bravado, he went about collecting fans and admirers for himself, returning rarely only to perform for his beloved Emperor and the rest of the great court.

Very few knew the truth of why he rarely returned.

SkekLi despised the Emperor; not an uncommon opinion amongst the Skeksis under his thrall, but the Satrist had the misfortune of being more aboveboard about it. Over the trine spent under him, his satire grew more and more conspicuous as to who exactly it was describing: a horrid, selfish and vain ruler who tormented his subjects for his own amusement.

SkekSo saw it, read perfectly between the lines of each and every verse of the Satrist's songs, and knew it was all too true, of course: which is why he never ceased to knock him down whenever he could. SkekLi could only watch helplessly as the position he worked years to obtain steadily slipped from him. He lost his friends in court, his reputation began to go to shambles; little by little, he lost all favor with everyone he had known. He was losing his career, and perhaps soon, his life.

He drank heavily that night, taking refuge with the one soul in the palace in almost as bad a position as he- (not the Scientist, you would have to be mad to talk to the Scientist)- the Treasurer. Both were in a similar way, and all because of a common enemy. They drank and bemoaned to each other their woes, spinning tales about how horribly the Emperor had wronged them.

One thing led to another. Shared misery turned into companionship. Companionship took what it had gained and ran with it.

And two trine later, long after SkekLi had thought the little nighttime escapade long over with, SkekShod pulled him into the darkest corners of the treasury to present him with an egg. Their egg, soon to hatch.

It was the worst possible time for them to have a child: SkekSo, they knew, hated them both, and wouldn't hesitate to destroy anything that came from them, even if it took the shape of a skekling; a rumor had been floating about the courts that the Satrist was to be banished, perhaps never to return, and SkekShod wouldn't let their young one fall into the Emperor's clutches.

A desperate plan was hastily made: after the egg hatched, the little one would go with their father in his banishment, and SkekShod would get away when he could to see them (both unaware that soon the Emperor would call the Satrist back). So, deep in the treasury, the little skekling hatched from their shell, and was given the name SkekMi by their mother. SkekLi collected her up, and after the Emperor's inexorable decree had fallen, he whisked her away, unnoticed by any of the Castle residents.

SkekLi however had no plans to keep the squirming, crying, messy little skekling; being a father full-time simply didn't suit him- not that he was cruel, he simply had never had any good parental figures for guidance; his own childhood had been squandered by neglect and abuse; would he dare repeat that with an innocent, clean slate?

He knew someone who would help: it was a vain hope, a slim chance, but he had to try. It took a few unum, but he found the caves of Grot, and inside, he found an old friend of his. Not much explanation was given besides a name, and the skekling was thrust into UrLii's arms before the Satrist disappeared again. SkekMi latched onto the urru immediately, despite his reluctance, dubbing him "papa"; and that one word was enough for UrLii to tuck the little one into his pouch.

A trine passed in Grot, and it became clear to UrLii that this place was not fit for an energetic, curious, mischievous skekling. She jumped off the high shelves in the tomb, terrorized his Grottan students, tried to eat whatever creatures she found wandering about, and almost got trapped in an arathim web when she explored too deep in the various tunnels; so UrLii took up his 'Potato' and went back to the Urru Capital, retaking his place as the Court Storyteller.

UrLii lost many friends with his skekling daughter, many claiming he had even gone mad enough to take a skekling in; not that it bothered UrLii much, often stating that because of SkekMi he discovered who his true friends were. Thus, SkekMi grew up in the Valley, accruing urrling friends (despite the dismay of many parents) and became well-liked for her quick wit and sharp tongue.

She had a happy childhood under UrLii's care, whom she respected and deeply admired, despite the grief she caused him in her youth (she had been a wicked little creature, she knew). As SkekLi's secret visits to her and her papa grew more and more rare as she aged, his gentle influence shaped her almost entirely.

As an adult she grew to emulate him, even giving herself the title of "Storyteller", after her Papa. Carrying a bookshelf-like carapace on her back, she carried her puppets and other contrivances across Thra, entertaining villages and towns with stories, both her own and those passed down to her from UrLii. During her travels, she tends to run into her on-again-off-again banished father, but usually wants little or nothing to do with him despite his friendly demeanor towards her.

Skektember 9 : the one they hate

In the Natives AU, SkekShod and SkekLi spent at some point a drunken night of passion together. No love or anything, just 2 drunk guys fucking. SkekLi left arter his semo punishment, SkekShod stayed... but, afraid that SkekSo who had him in his bad graces and had bashed him on his head would do worse to ruin his life, the next time SkekLi visited he shoved in his arms an egg/a baby (depensing out own takes, @dracocheesecake sees the Skeks are oviparian while I don't lol sub AUs) to bring with him to protect them as much as it pained him. His ! SkekLi was absolutely not ready or responsible enough for that, ESPECIALLY since he had already gotten SkekLach pregnant before after just a one night stand during mating season, WHY did it keep happening to him !? Not seeing how he could rise a Skekling while being a semi-banished wandering artist, he gave them to an old friend and former crush/booty call : UrLii. UrLii was NOT ready either but couldn't just abandon a baby so had no choice but accept. He named them SkekMi (belong to Draco). He raised her like an UrRu, teaching her their ways and protecting her from racist remarks from other UrRu who did not lile to see a Skekling playing with their Urrlings. SkekLi would sometimes visit, but more like an irresponsible uncle than as a father staying just for the fun part of parenting and leaving when it becomes hard, to both UrLii's annoyance and SkekMi's disappointment. But she got used to it

Though one day as a teenager she asked him who her mother was. Li didn't lie, it was the Treasurer, SkekShod. SkekMi asked him one to bring her with him to meet him, which he accepted (only because he was going there already). SkekShod was absolutely emotional. She has grown so much, she was healthy, she was beautiful !... ok she was intoxicated with Mystic way of life but she was alive and well and that was all that matteted. SkekMi can't visit all the time, looking too UrRu for her sake in such an Urruphobic town, but she does try to visit her newfound family to catch up Only issue is... SkekShod, some time after having given her to SkekLi, had fallen in love with SkekOk and they mated off and had 2 children together (with whom she is neutral with. Awkward together). SkekOk not only was appalled he never told him such a secret feeling like he didn't trust him after all these years, he also found out he had a child with SOMEONE ELSE EVEN IF IT WERE BEFORE HIM, RIVALLING HIS OWN LEGETIMATE BABIES ?! SkekOk got a hate at first sight with the teen which soon became mutual. The cliché evil stepfather who mocks her looks, calls her ugly, compares her to HIS perfect children, reminds her whenever he can that Shod abandonned her while he didn't abandon the others which proves she means nothing to him so she could perfectly just never visit again... she knows those are all lies but it hurts, and it makes her wish to retort back. But she can't. He is a courtier and he could rat on a Skeksis raised by the enemy anytime. He doesn't just for his mate... for now

About SkekZi:

In this blog I would like to talk a little bit about SkeSha’s and SkekSo’s Skeklings and I figured I’d start with their oldest Skekling, SkekZi.

Appearance:

SkekZi looks in many ways like her father SkekSo. Sharing the same facial features as him as well as his Icy Blue Eyes. When she becomes an adult the resemblance becomes very clear and at times some of the other Skeksis tremble at the thought. It is said that when you look into SkekZi’s eyes you can see the spirit and sometimes the rage of her father shining through. She wears either golden or black and purple robes (the black and purple ones she calls her “Deva outfit”). When she wears the black and purple robes she especially looks like her father.

Personality:

SkekZi may have the physical appearance of her father however she is normally more like her mother SkekSha when it comes to political matters. She is calm, confident, gentle, mindful and shows her loyalty to those she trusts. However, breaking her trust makes her very bitter and cold. It is usually at times like this or when she gets very angry that she brings out her father’s side in her as she does get aggressive and spiteful at those moments. It is mainly due to the teachings SkekSo gives her and her siblings when they are young. Mainly how to be strong and always be careful about those around you.

Teachings:

When SkekSha is a skekling she learns from her mother how to be calm and gentle towards the other Skeksis and it later earns her a big following later in life. However she also learns from SkekSo how to be strong, brave and tough as for Skeksis life is cruel and he teaches her that she must be prepared to defend her throne from anyone who may want to take it from her. As SkekSo knew all too well how hard it could be to keep such respect. Although she admires her father very much she did learn from him that bloodshed and violence is not always the answer to everything.

Favorite Parent:

Even though she does enjoy spending time with her mother as a skekling. SkekZi favors SkekSo more. Mainly because once she is old enough to start learning about her future role as heir to the throne and later Empress, SkekSo spends much more of his time with her. Teaching her how to lead and how to keep the Skeksis together as a whole. There was also no doubt who SkekSo favored out of the brood either. As he always gave her approval over everything she did even though her brother was a close second favorite in SkekSo’s eyes. She did also feel that his teachings yes may have been cruel yet also prepared her the most to sit on the throne when the time came for her to rise and take SkekSo’s place.

Closest Friend:

SkekZi’s closest friend in court (may shock you) is none other then her mate and the Chamberlain, SkekSil. Ever since she was little she took to him rather quick despite her father hating it. When the two became mates (yes he is way older but he technically had claim to the throne anyway due to his position in court in the first place so don’t judge) it honestly didn’t shock the court at all. SkekSo tried to forbid it however but the two continued their relationship.

Skeklings:

SkekZi does eventually have Skeklings of her own. Two females and two males named SkekGa (female), SkekKil (male), SkekShar (male) and SkekUla (female). She adores them to death just liked SkekSha did with her and her siblings. When SkekSil is exiled (wrongfully and behind her back in my sequel AU based on the movie) she hides them with Mother Aughra since she knows that most of the court would see them as a threat since they have SkekSil’s blood in them. SkekKil in particular acts like his father to a tee which definitely doesn’t sit well with the likes of SkekUng for example.

Relationship with Mother Aughra:

Having only met after Aughra awoke from her long slumber, Aughra was shocked yet quite enthusiastic when she met SkekZi and her siblings SkekVrie, SkekNi and SkekVek as she (as most creatures including the Skeksis themselves) had no idea that Skeksis could have offspring. SkekZi does see Aughra as a good friend as she entrusts her to help look after SkekGa, SkekKil, SkekShar and SkekUla so that they will be safe until they are old enough to defend themselves.

I've got a couple of things I'm working on right now, but drawing skekling Tek again made me realize how much my art has developed since I last drew DC stuff.

So, after I've got my school work and arpg animations finished, I was thinking I'd do redesigns of all the skeklings (and urlings too)! I want to do little reference sheets for all of them and incorporate some new details.
