Katolis has a monarchy but no other class structure in place? Heck but that’d be crazy? How would the council get chosen? They’d let some child king just pick his best buds? Run elections where Bait stands as a joke candidate and accidentally gets elected? C’mon that’s no way to govern a feudal society now is it.. is it?

Listen: orphan girls imprisoning godlike puppetmaster elves is no basis for a system of government.

So I know this is moderately jokey but I want to discuss it anyway, because I think it’s interesting. Part of the setting is taking the trappings of faux-medieval fantasy and layering them over what is, to modern sensibilities, a fairly idealized liberal social structure. I’m not going to debate the merits of storytelling that handles representation via an idealized setting like TDP vs. storytelling that does so by acknowledging and incorporating the lived experience of people struggling under societal inequities, because that’s a whole thing and not really relevant—suffice it to say that a setting with racial and gender equity where everyone is assumed to be bisexual and there’s no organized religion is, at a very basic level, completely incompatible with the classic medieval fantasy social structure.

But let’s look at Katolis:

First of all, I would like to point out that none of these characters have surnames. None. Zero. I’m actually very pleased with that because 90% of the time I’ve seen settings use surnames as a loose class marker, they eventually fuck it up and yes I am looking at you, Dragon Age. So points there for consistency. But what this indicates, in keeping every single title being paired with the given name, is that there’s relatively little social emphasis on bloodline or family connections with regard to class status. It also means collecting taxes is probably a pain in the ass, but whatever. There’s the royal bloodline, and then everybody else.

We also have the structure of Katolis’s military—specifically, it’s a volunteer (there’s no evidence of compulsory military service, which is something I’d definitely expect to be discussed as the main characters age into late teens if it were in place), apparently standing, army of what appear to be career soldiers. There’s a hierarchy of officers—lieutenant, commander, captain, general, etc.—but not a concept of knighthood as linked to a hierarchy of nobility and land ownership. It’s a notable omission from a faux-medieval setting. Now, the wiki (ugh) describes the Crownguard as “knights” and I don’t know why, but regarding them specifically: they’re certainly an elite force, and it’s implied that Soren can take command of the situation with Pyrrah because of his status as a Crownguard. However, it could also just be his Captain rank, that’s a little unclear. However, it’s also clearly an open-recruitment, merit-based force (though we could start a side discussion here about exactly how much that applies to Soren) because Soren is able to recruit Corvus, despite Corvus being implied to have a low-status background.

Now, going back to the royal line, there’s a lot we don’t know here about bloodline succession and such—Ezran is crown prince over Callum, so the preference is clearly for an heir from the bloodline. It’s kind of unclear whether Callum is in line for the throne at all, though presumably if Ezran died he’d be eligible as an orphan. In a hypothetical situation where Sarai and Callum survive both Harrow and Ezran, who knows?

We also have a complication to dynastic succession that the show neatly avoids, which is branching family trees. “Noble” bloodlines are frequently offshoots of a royal house, descended from non-inheriting lines. The best way I can explain around a 300-year-old unbroken dynastic bloodline apparently having no extended relations is to assume that it does, but the cultural tradition is that anyone not part of the immediate royal nuclear family is basically the same being unrelated. This would mostly apply to non-inheriting siblings, with the expectation that they disperse to live their own lives at some normal life transition point, such as reaching independent adulthood and pursuing a career, or getting married. The monarch could certainly place their siblings on the Council, but since those positions don’t seem to be hereditary there’s no dynastic effect. (At least not automatically.)

Another thing frequently tied to social class that we have absolutely no idea how the setting handles is land ownership. I’m not going to dwell on this much because it’s deeply intertwined with a lot of other societal factors that are more complex than I want to think about right now, like childhood education or industrialization of agriculture. Given the socially egalitarian emphasis of the setting, I seriously doubt that the creators intended a feudal or even feudal-like system, though.

So with that out of the way, what does confer social status in Katolis? We know one answer is money, because there’s a limit to how idealized a setting can get. My bet would be that both the big money and the civilian prestige in Katolis is in industries or professions that support the military. Respected professions would probably be things like crafting armor and weapons (smithing and leatherworking), engineering (particularly related to weaponry), medicine (human and animal), and… idk, animal husbandry and training (all those crows gotta come from somewhere). The industries making people rich would then be the suppliers for those—mining, military food production, and of course, trade. When you have a large standing military, just the supply logistics are practically an industry of their own.

(I do personally imagine a loose guild system for a lot of the trained crafting professions just because I enjoy that shit and also it’s an easy education pipeline. Probably also for medicine, I don’t see there being a lot of medical schools floating around so again, apprenticeship-based training.)

Just to spin things out even further, in the absence of organized religion—a BIG absence—is there what could be considered the equivalent of an “educated” class? Well, education is another thing we know literally nothing about, so… scholarship likely remains the province of the wealthy or people who can charm a wealthy patron. In the public sphere, if you look at Opeli as kind of a combination attorney general and master of ceremonies, she likely has an office of nerds living their best lives doing her bidding, and that’s as close as you’ll get to a “priestly” class. (Or to a lawyer, since the most we’ve seen of the justice system is “Opeli puts people in prison and the monarch sentences them.”)

Okay so now that even I have forgotten what I’m talking about… that’s my social picture of Katolis, I guess. Communitarian, but susceptible to the issues that come with having a strong military-industrial complex influencing your socioeconomic balance.

So, unpopular opinion, I’ve see a few ideas of being the vees collective lay or ‘plaything’ fucktoy, and the idea is so much more fun with a dom reader.

And i’m saying that objectively too, like not just as a dom reader blog. Because these are three people who make up the worst aspects of society, and lowkey are basically just manipulation tactics personified. Propaganda the trio!

Looking at these cocky assholes, who are the embodiment of what is considered terrible people, and who all have unmatched mathematically impossibly high egos, would it just be so fun to fuck the pride out of them?

Especially, for example, let’s say you’re around a lot and you’ve become a trusted person a good fuck for the Vees. They all have terrible attention seeking tendencies, so it would be safe to assume they’d be all over you.

Vox would be trying to talk to you about whatever particular subject he thinks is most interesting (about himself) to capture your attention, while Velvette would be close to you as well, flicking her phone your direction to show you something she finds funny or hot, but mainly as a subtle power-play to get your attention off Vox and onto her.

Valentino would be much less subtle, of course, by nature. He’d be all up around you, touching you, running his hands along your shoulder blades as he walks past, and probably the type to ‘drop something’ and bend over to flash you his fishnets and panties.

Needless to say, they’re all pissing each other off immensely. Obviously, being short tempered people, this leads to an argument because Velvette was ‘talking to you first’ but Vox had ‘actually important things to say’ and according to Valentino ‘the two of you were boring them out of their minds’ and he had to ‘spice your day up.’

Unfortunately for the Vees, you don’t do your one ‘job.’ Your attention isn’t given to any one of them. Yet. You just simply sit on the couch, scrolling through your phone and flicking through channels. Maybe you even actually leave the tower and go eat out or something.

Of course, until later when you pick them off one by one. And no matter who you decide to fuck senseless first, they will be so obviously loud just to be petty because, after all, you did choose them first. Like they would be being obnoxiously vocal about how ‘full they are’ or how ‘you’re going so fast!’ or some other fake shit like that. It’s honestly a whole show. Now, I feel like fucking all of them at the same time is kind of inevitable, because they’re all deprived horny freaks on the lowkey. (Except for Val it’s very highkey.) But I think there would be little mannerisms that appear on one on one sessions that they would NEVER show during a foursome. For example, Vox’s certain… titles he uses. mommy kink mommy kink mommy kink. Because he would literally die before calling you mommy or daddy in front of Velvette or Val. It’s okay when it’s just you because it’d be easier to be vulnerable around someone he trusts to set his dominance fully aside for.

And like, yeah, the other Vees know he gets fucked just like the rest of them, but it’s simpler for him to keep his illusion of dominance and respect out side of the bedroom, if the more shamefully submissive aspects of himself stayed hidden.

Also, I think Valentinos would have an easier time actually giving into to subbing during one on one sessions. Like yes, he does sub when it’s with you all the time. That’s the point of the fic.

But he’s less of a power bottom, and his flirtatious, incredibly disgusting remarks subside much faster into whimpers and whining.

Because, although less professional than Vox, he does still have an image. And when it’s just you fucking him, his vile horny comments disappear into whines for your attention in no time. Well actually a lot of time, but the point is that they actually do. And similar to Valentinos, Velvette’s confidence when bottoming alone with you is increasingly less apparent. Yea, she’s still bossy and definitely a power bottom, but there’s more of a recognition that she isn’t in charge. Honestly, she’s such a princess I think she’d actually have a very hard time going into subspace, even when alone. Because degradation just pisses her off. Why aren’t you worshipping her like you should be? But then it’s, what the fuck, why aren’t you worshiping her like you should be?? It makes her brat out even harder, which she does show in front of the other Vees, until she’s actually just needy to be pleased and given pleasure, making her twice as whiny. That aspect she does not show in front of the vees. But let’s talk about group sex with the Vees. Probably only used as a severe punishment, or a surprisingly giving reward. I have a very particular scene for the severe punishment aspect, however. So they’ve all been bad, but let’s say, for the sake of specifics to set the scene, Val has been worse. It is still a punishment for Vox and Velvette, but punishing them all to the same extent when Val has misbehaved clearly more would be wrong, would it not? They’re all greedy, selfish assholes, so you’ve concocted the perfect form of torture for your useless brats; they don’t receive anything until they’re good. Especially Val. Velvette has a strap on, so she can’t even feel anything but minor friction when you slide your worked open ass onto the plastic dick and open your legs, exposing your empty pussy to none other than Vox. He eats you out reluctantly, while rutting into the mattress as fast as he could, all while you cockwarm (and sometimes roll your hips to press the strap against her pussy uncomfortably) Velvette. Oh, and where’s Valentino? Tied up in a chair in front of the bed, getting a perfect shot while being totally naked and hard. You have a gag in his mouth too, because otherwise he’d be complaining the whole time. Because that’s just not fair, is it? He does this all day for a living. Summary: Headcanons of Dr. Flug with an artistic S/O, who creates trinkets, paintings, letters, etc. as gifts. Extra meeting and confessing headcanons

Dr. Flug is hardly someone you'd describe as creative. His inventions were great! But the designs were.. well, practical, I suppose. They were made exactly how they were supposed to be, just to the extent for the machinery to work. So he had never put too much effort into designs when it came to his work.

His inventions also usually never had anything special added to them. Flug makes things exactly how they're asked to be made, and nothing else. He's a man of order and schedule, and honestly can't live without it. Which is why he forgets to add an off button to most of his inventions.

You, on the other hand, loved free-will. Especially when it came to your own creations, art, paintings, writings--everything! If you did care for order and all, you make sure to add your own personal color to your schedule. Doodles can be found all over any paper you're given, and in your spare time/all the time, you'd create plushies, sculptures, collages.. truly, anything artistic. Anything you were given, you incorporated some sort of pigment into it.

You had first met him when you joined Blackhat Org., for villainy and such. Surprisingly, you were a great addition to the company! Surprising to Dr. Flug, at least. Now, he's usually not one to judge, but you were practically radiating with color, so he kinda thought you were just a Demencia duplicate. Upon meeting you, he found himself pleasantly shocked.

Flug was intriguing to you. So incredibly different than you, yet somehow, you two clicked. He was a nervous wreck, yet somehow put together. Kinda like you! (jk)

The more time you spent with him, the more Dr. Flug got comfortable with your presence. When he was having a busy day, he'd sometimes ask you to do small things for him. You, most of the time, obliged. Unless you were busy as well--most likely busy painting something that doesn't need to be painted.

Confessions? Oh--yes! Right, right.. well, Flug kinda had this whole plan written out of how he'd admit his feelings for you. He would pace around his room for hours, mumbling incoherent, scrambled thoughts of what would be the uttermost perfect way to confess. He doesn't know what the term "Don't overthink it" means. His rambles, walking to nowhere, and planning usually came to a pause when you stopped by.

How ignorant he was, because as he was writing out a plan that reached to the floor, you were cooking up your own idea to confess aswell. Except, you weren't focused on making it perfect. You wanted it to seem like it came from you. Yup, you were writing a confession letter to Flug. And yes, it did have doodles all over it.

When Dr. Flug left his laboratory for a moment, you stood to leave. Not after leaving your letter there, though. When he returned, he was worried about where you went, before the letter caught his eye.

He chuckled staring at the small doodles that covered the page. Then he read what you wrote..

Oh. His bag immediately flushed a deep red.

When the two of you got together, you immediately started on little crafts to give him. Either for dates, valentines day, christmas, or any holiday! Maybe one day for your anniversary..

Oh, Dr. Flug adores them. Every little thing you give him goes on a shelf right next to his jet collection. He treasures them as if they were of his own creation--because they were of yours. Nothing will be able to beat the feeling of receiving a gift from you. His eyes never fail to light up at the sight of your artwork. Yeah, he's head over heels. Not saying he worships you like a god, but he definitely looks up to you.

That confession letter definitely wasn't your last letter. Occasionally, you'd write him notes or letters for him when you couldn't make it to his lab. Sometimes love poems! Flug definitely tripped over his shoes reading your first love poem to him. He still can't believe such romantic subjects that he usually saw in movies were being shown.. towards him, of all people.

If you wrote a song for him? Dr. Flug would cry. Sorry, no way around it, his heart would throb and suddenly all his love for you was just flowing out in the form of tears. Afterwards, if you gave him a recorded tape of the song, he'd listen to it daily. Sometimes on loop in the background when he's doing work. He'd get distracted often, though...

The plushies definitely tugged at his heartstrings, though. You once gave him a plush heart, and he kept it on his desk everyday. Until 5.0.5. got to it. Dr. Flug once checked up on him to see how he was doing, before seeing him sleeping soundly, cuddling the knit creation you gifted him. After Flug sent a photo of it to you, because he was practically close to breaking down due to how wholesome the scene was, you knew exactly what you had to do.

The next day, you came in to the lab with two small hand-knit stuffies for 5.0.5. One sunflower, and one little mini-5.0.5. You were proud with how they turned out! Part of you wanted to keep them because of how cute they were, but you knew they were a gift for 5.0.5.

As soon as Dr. Flug set his sight on the stuffed plushies, his heart immediately warmed up. It honestly baffled him that someone would do that for 5.0.5., but I guess you were a naturally kind person. He was so lucky to have you, he realizes. After wiping the slightest bit of tears from his goggles, he took them and put them carefully with the rest of 5.0.5.'s stuffed animals.

Dr. Flug will now occasionally ask you to help him with his inventions designs, spotting your eye for color and overall talent when it came to.. well, art.

The two of you work together well, as both work-partners and.. partners. Flug adores your colorful nature, and you adore his technical nature. You snap together like yin and yang, and Dr. Flug couldn't ask for anything more than who you are.

If things keep going the way they are, you may wind up soulmates.

incoherent travis related ramblings ahead. proceed with caution

so an anon wanted to know what i meant by calling travis's arc a deconstruction of gender and i'm not sure if i can properly word anything that's bouncing around my skull but here's to trying. so i think there are a lot of interesting writing decisions for travis even early on (now that we know where they take his character after that) like even in the first half of s1 where he's honestly making it so hard not to dislike him it's clear all that toxic masculinity is hurting him as well and he basically hides behind misogyny. he avoids being vulnerable around nat by lashing out at her with misogynistic insults just to stop her from seeing his insecurities. he makes other misogynistic comments around the girls seemingly just to keep them at arm's length. and normally that's something that makes a space unsafe for girls and women. a guy who seems to be bad at controlling his emotions and who is vocally misogynistic is a red flag both in real life and in fiction. and they put him with nat! and yes on first watch i Hated that. we learn that nat had a misogynistic violent father and then travis points a gun at her and shames her for her sex life. but what they do next though is so.. fascinating. doomcoming comes around and travis is taken advantage of and assaulted in a way we are used to seeing female characters being treated on screen (and honestly in the way that is common for most women to fear in real life). he's drugged, he gets kind of pressured into having sex he clearly didn't really want to have and then gets sexually assaulted. i think it does say something interesting about power and thus is a deconstruction of gender in a way and kind of refreshing in that it doesn't shy away from showing that. especially when there still is a persistent "feminist" view (hinging on bioessentialism and cissexism really) that argues men's violence is some inherent part of men as a whole that women aren't capable of on the basis of gender or even more to the point on the basis of their biology/"sex"

like i think it's narratively so good? because you're primed to think like. he's the danger. he lashes out and he's misogynistic. but they're in the wilderness where the power dynamics of regular society that they're from no longer apply and so he's in danger now by virtue of being a guy their age (which actually parallels the way ben in s1 is stripped of all his authority AND his health is put at risk because of a girl's crush on him) like all jokes aside and all gay headcanons aside there is obviously heteronormative framing that most of those girls look at the world through. and they're all drugged and traumatized and he very much becomes the target Because of his gender. even would go as far as to say around 1x08 is where travis becomes objectified (which in turn makes that scene from the first lake scene where they're like is he actually hot? kind of dreadful) and so what that means is that for him to stop being A Target is to become one of them which is what we see in s2 and what we call girlcoding of travis martinez lol

plus what kevin said about him wanting to belong in a group is really interesting. and i love the way his interactions with the rest shift in s2. him being A Guy is a huge part of s1. like he's not one of them not because he's not on the team - neither is misty she literally just carries equipment - but because he's a guy. and he does as much to alienate himself from them as they do to other him in turn. but in s2 TO ME it very much feels like his gender stopped being relevant and through that he removed the target from his back. and that happens through him joining them in all the rituals which neither ben or javi ever do. travis the first ever genuinely girlcoded character (real not clickbait)

this is v rushed, unpolished and sucks in general but this disastergirl has been living in my head rent free for over a month and i need to get this out of my system before i lose mygoddamn mind so. incoherent rambling below the cut, beware.

spoiler alert: we pretty much only got a handful of breadcrumbs in terms of her personality and frankly some of those crumbs are covered in mold, so a solid 90% of this is pulled straight outta my ass. shes basically an oc at this point

okay so. first off when it comes to characterization i tend to start with how a characters background shaped them into who they are

...which is where we run into problem number one: her backstory outside of "sols daughter" and "chaos magic" is really vague. we dont know what she was doing between aquas sacrifice and unsealing sol, how she even found out sol was alive let alone that hes stuck in that coffin thing or how exactly aqua sacrificed herself

(but hey, thats what headcanons are for, right?)

so in this rewrite pandora survived because aqua teleported her away to another one of their creators worlds shortly before dying (yes she can do that apparently. look i know it sounds farfetched, just roll with it) and she ended up in an orphanage, where her needs were barely met. hence she learned to only rely on herself

(also in this rewrite she doesnt actually find out sol is alive or his whole deal until waaay down the line since it fits better with her direction as a character. (she has to go An Arc abt it ala su) so yea im retconning away the one thing she does in canon lmao)

• let’s say it was the first time with them dealing with your period, they were concerned when they smelt blood all over you, queue all four of them (mikey doesn’t have the strong sense of smell yet so he doesn’t know what’s going on) checking for any wounds, cuts, scraps, bruising, anything, Paul even tries to look under your clothes before Dwayne stopped him, but that was just mostly for personal reasons.

• Once you explained they all collectively said “oh.” Paul had to be clued in a bit more but thats okay, at least your pretty Paulie<3

• you were walking with Marko and David to go get some food, since David had the money and Marko just wanted to be with you cause you smelled so much like blood good. You were falling a bit behind because of your cramps, that’s when someone bumped into you, knocking their drink into themselves.

• The person of course, blamed it all on you and started yelling at you to which your eyes teared up at. David and Marko noticed. They both stepped in front of you, Marko was ready to swing and he almost did as he and David told the person off, male or female, his hands are rated e for everyone

• but, when they heard you sniffle, they turn around and see tears brimming in your eyes, almost falling out. You didn’t want to cry in front of the small crowd you’ve attracted, so you tugged on David’s sleeve, not trusting yourself to not break down in sobs when you try and speak

• Marko and David quickly knew what to do and they took you quickly back to the rest of the boys who crowded around you as you struggled to hold back tears.

• When Paul (ever so blissfully ignorant) asked you what was wrong and you just broke down, rambling in basically incoherent sentences about how you were just walking and this person bumped into you and they spilt their drink and you didn’t even do anything and they started yelling at you, and you didn’t even get your funnel cake! You cried extra hard at the last part

• Once you calmed down some, because it was embarrassing to cry in public, you drove with Dwayne back to the cave along with the rest of the boys, save Marko, he stayed back to buy your funnel cake but he raced to catch up with all of you.

• once you got back to the cave, you apologized profusely for crying, so much to the point where David was annoyed. And with a short, sort of angry, ‘it’s fine’, you quieted down and he thought he did something, until he looked back at you and saw your lower lip wobbling and new tears filling your eyes,

• “what is it now?”

• “you yelled at me.” you cried.

• queue Michael holding you, then paul pushing michael off of you and holding you and Dwayne scolding David.

• “why did you yell at her?”

• “i didn’t!”

• it all basically ends in a cuddle pile every night until your period is over, extra cuddles if you cry, or get upset, or sad, or if you even blink wrong then at least two of them will be on you.

• and if you want then one of them (or more if you’re comfy with that yet) will have smexy fun time with you to cheer you up! Or to distract you for the time being because they will eventually have you talk about it and they’ll help you as much as they can.

Headcanons. Okay, so. He has golden eyes. He's associated with yellow and gold a lot, because of creation, but he prefers another colour. Not sure what.

Man's super short. Like, 150cm. Here is him next to Ray and Maya.

He's very fit, but not super toned and muscular. However much you'd need to be doing what he does.

More headcanons... like his dad and brother, he can purr, and is more flexible than most people. (Cause, yknow. The old fandom thing of dragon + oni= cat), and they also all have soft, floofy hair (an Oni trait). Because the dragon side is more dominant in him, he's relatively cold-blooded, and more susceptible to the cold than most people. (Makes having an extra warm best friend/boyfriend even better 🤭)

A more serious headcanon, he was relatively closed off after his father died. He was always more of an introvert, but Iza dying made the realisation hit him, that he's going to outlive people. He didn't really have many friends, until Ray basically decided this dude needed a friend. Ray got him to move past this fear, to live enjoying the now, rather than fearing the possibilities of the future. I think I worded that right. Anyway, they've been super close ever since. Unless it's an AU with Goldsmith, the only other person he's even remotely that close to is Misako.

There's only one more HC I can think of at the moment, and that's that he enjoys creative things, like art and stuff. His element probably plays a bit into that. He used to really like to paint, but doesn't do it much anymore. (There was a book that said Misako liked to paint... maybe they'd paint together and chat and have tea,,,)

Glacier dads au. Where Cole and Zane take baby Wu during S0G and go into hiding and just. Become his dads. It's very soft and sweet, most of the time.

Mermaid AU. Wu is a mermaid, as well as his family. He befriends, and TOTALLY doesn't fall for two humans (Ray and Maya). (But it turns out, Maya actually has mermaid ancestry, and eventually, can change forms between human and mermaid (she's an octopus mermaid, I can't remember the proper name at the moment.))

There's also a future part of that AU, where they're adults and have three kids and a house that's partially underwater. The kids can all change forms at will too. Nya is a regular mermaid, and Kai and Lar are octopi like their mama)

Band AU. Wus in an up and coming rock band with Ray, Maya, Lilly and Libber. They're called "Elements of Creation" or something, but I don't think they actually have powers fhdjsjm. This AU also has Goldsmith. They also have a little tuxedo cat whose name I forgot that Maya found and they rescued as a kitten.

Ice skater AU. Wu and Ray are together, and are figure skaters. However, duo competitions tend to be between male and female duos, so they search for another couple to have some partners for completions. Enter Maya and Misako. Begin them all falling in love 🤭

Family AU. An AU that goes along with the timeline of the show, the biggest difference being that Maya, Ray and Wu are all married. Kai and Nya live with Wu in the monastery after Ray ans Maya get taken away. Before being taken away, though, Maya had found out that she was pregnant again. She didn't get to tell her husbands before Krux took her and Ray while Wu was away, though :(

HAPPY Family AU. An alternate version of Family AU that branches off at around the time of Garmadon's banishment. He doesn't get banished, Ray and Maya don't get taken, and as little angst as possible happens. Lar gets to grow up with his siblings, who get to grow up with all three of their parents. Zane and Morro also get adopted. The kids get to spend lots of time with their cousin Lloyd. Oh, Ray's mother is also still alive, so the kids have their grandma! They call her Nanny :) that's what we called my paternal grandma, and. I think autumn deserves that honour :)

Alternate Timeline AU. Garmadon doesn't sign Wu's letter, and this event prompts him to leave Chen. Wu and Misako adopt Morro, and get married. Jun is in this AU :)

That's all the recent ones I can think of off the top of my head. There's also the LCA AU, Canon Divergent AU and Fantasy AU, but I haven't really touched those in years. OH and the Superhero AU. I'd like to get back to some of those but. Idk they kinda make me cringe since they're from like. Four years ago.

OH he's also heavily involved in Single Mamasako AU. He helps Misako with Lloyd whenever he can, even when he starts training the ninja. ....there's also an alternate version of that AU where he and Misako get together,, and I have also been thinking of a kinda AU that goes along with the show, where they become a thing .... around after s10? Idk I only thought of it the other day because. I love them. Wusako is cute and I'm tired of pretending it's not.

here's a lil rambling incoherent spiel of details....

gunna be honest, i was very eager to try writing from the monsters 'perspective'. The Snatchers are simple and basic sort of foe I can insert where the plot can use one, and have it do its thing. But I try and slip in that there is more to them than just 'spawn monster here' gig.

And there is a little system of where oc adults/monsters come from in the TuNe The TRanSMiSsion au, but more on that at an ungodly hour of the evening.

Snatchers are inclusive monsters to my au, and they do have an origins that is exclusive to them, since I headcanon that there is no right or wrong hc on where kids come from. It's a mystery and doesn't really matter, especially if a child does not remember from where they hailed from, or that there was once a world aside from the hostile Nightmare world they've been thrown into. That said, the methods by which some kids arrive into the Nightmare world are not shared by other creatures, monsters, or adults that inhabit this reality - specifically the Pale City.

I'm prefacing the ramble with the fact that I am not sober, and there may be more spelling errors and just general incoherency - we'll see!

So the thing about Larrikin is we know so little about him which means that a) we can project whatever we like on him and b) most of my emotional attachment is basically to my OC. That said:

We KNOW he had a sense of humour and was close to Anton, we also know that he cared enough to make him smile in a very tense environment (in a reckless way - which implies with absolute certainty that he was safe with Anton, or a disregard for his own safety which is also interesting).

We KNOW he died before the war, saving Dexter's life. There's ... a lot to extrapolate from that.

And that's all I remember from canon.

But even just that - imagine fighting centuries in a war only to die relatively just before it ends. Imagine loving the people around you the way he did (because both of these details are manifestations of love, are they not?) and not getting to see peacetime with them. It's angsty enough as it is, and my headcanons make it even angstier. Fuck I love writing Larrikin.

TLDR version: I realized that I rarely draw anything these days, so to motivate myself to study and draw again I basically created an AU for the main purpose of using illustrations from early-to-mid 20th century as references and studies while doubling as ship art (by slapping the faces of those two dorks on them to encourage myself to make more)

Long, in-depth explanation of the AU + shitpost art under the cut

The main premise of this AU is that in 1960, 'Perseus', who had just became the leader of Collective, found himself to be in over his head with this newfound responsibility and needed all the help he can get, so he invited his longtime friend most trusted confidante Bell (who isn't Bell in this AU) to became co-leader with him because he can (my headcanon is that every Perseus can make their own rules and the next one can amend or remove it to their pleasure).

Other basic infos about this AU:

They both are the same age (b. 1921)

Crossed paths with each other multiple times during WWII (different unit)

Only became friends after the war when they found themselves working together in the same building

Mainly focuses on period between 1950s up to 1980s

For more than a decade now, I've always been fascinated with artworks from the Golden Age of Illustration (1880's - 1920's) up until 1960's, thanks to Black Ops 1 ironically lmao. Back in 2010 when I was obsessed with the game I was always on the Internet searching and learning everything that is related to the game's time period (fashion, music, art, events etc.). During that time I was exposed to artists like Al Parker along with Coby Whitmore, and I immediately became obsessed with the art style.

So other than me making up a reason to trawl the Internet again for good old retro illustrations like the old days and to draw these two in intimate poses (not that kind of intimate, if you catch my drift), I also made the AU set at this specific time period as a convenience to myself so that I don't have to spend extra time researching fashion trends or hairstyles in 1950's etc., because the illustrations that I'll be using as studies were already from that era 😎

At first, I wanted this to be a simple and self-indulgent AU complete with the usual slapstick comedy but I caught myself making it more complex and poignant through imagining both of them struggling to heal and navigate their lives together post-war + before & after de-Stalinization, so uhhh that's kinda cool and sad I guess

I even bought an art book hoping that it'll provide me with cool references and inspiration to draw them both along with making art of my mutuals' OCs

To start off. my ocd got suuuuuper bad in my second year of college, like to the point where my parents and psychologist was considering putting me in a hospital, so i know how awful ocd can get. and because of that ive always been kinda annoyed that all the ocd """""rep""""" in media is just comedic relief kinda stereotypical clean-freak perfectionist haha look at this weirdo sort of thing. like I was barely functional I couldn’t do basic tasks the majority of the time. ironically, my room was extremely dirty and messy despite my main obsession being about contamination. so yeah not all ocd manifests as the spotless perfect room perfect closet perfect desk or whatever the fuck. sometimes its the opposite. I also got put on academic probation bc I failed all but one of my classes (the one I passed was an art class. Lowkey think that class was the only thing keeping me out of a psych ward that quarter. lol. But anyway. That’s a different conversation) BUT ANYWAY it was all around Awful. Like idk it makes me feel kind of stupid for being such a mess before my medications when everyone just sees ocd as a joke or something. like for example, i loove death the kid soul eater, and hes a good character to make fun of urself after you’ve been medicated for ocd, but i wouldnt exactly call him good rep lmao. But after that relapse episode, I kind of really really really desperately needed a character/story to relate to about it but yippee! there are approximately zero (0) canon ocd characters that aren’t comedic relief! but anyway, i know hua cheng isnt canonically ocd but i was actually able to project on him alot from what we got of his personality (and i do gotta say, sorry but despite my attachment to him i dont actually think hes written all that well, but thats another rant), and its part of the reason why i love him so much bc hes like, definitely my biggest projecttion in this regard. so anyway

i mean theres no argument that his personality and actions are very. obsessive, and rather unhealthy to a degree, especially when he was younger, not so much as he matured over literally 800 years lol but he still has some hella issues. so like, [gestures to all of him] with how he chose xie lian as. HIS PERSON, and proceeded to revolve his entire personality and life around him is obvi v obsessive, i think its very obsessive compulsive personality disorder, which is slightly different than just ocd, one difference being (besides ocd being an anxiety disorder and ocpd being a personality disorder.) in that with ocpd, you dont really think theres anything wrong with how obsessive or compulsive you are, while with ocd it causes a lot of distress. (i havent been formally diagnosed with ocpd, but i do think i definitely at the very least have tendencies in that direction too. Like with certain things i know what im doing/thinking is irrational and it upsets me, but with others im just like. why cant other people see this the way i do? why cant they just understand why this is important? like I just get so! Angry! all the time! with people or in general when things aren’t how I want them to be. I get so judgemental even when other people cant possibly know how specific my standards are like I know its bad and I know it makes me act like a bitch and im sorry) anyway……….. sorry about the tangent but back to hua cheng. he is never distressed by how much he fixates on xie lian, the only thing that distresses him is his own percieved shortcomings with how he cannot serve xie lian the way he wants to. im not sure im explaining this well but i do definitely think hua cheng has ocpd as well. his fixation on xie lian actively prevents him forming meaningful relationships with other people, and even causes a lot of antagonism between him and others (especially fxmq). he just doesnt think anyone else is worthy of his attention. which is obviously, very unhealthy and kind of sad. (i do like to think he grows out of this a bit like with yin yu and he xuan, even if he doesnt want to admit it. AND YUSHI HUANG, bc i am also a ysh/hc brotp propaganda machine as well, and well because she was the only one that was willing to help xie lian during the war too. gay lesbian solidarity mwah <3)

so this ocpd thing.. i believe it extends to things like how the temple in ghost city, or paradise manor, is set up, he'd be classic perfectionist for the layout of it all, probably gave yin yu a lot of grief over it every single time he changed his mind and decided to burn it to the ground or redecorate it because it didnt seem good enough anymore for the hypothetical day when he can bring xie lian there. i dont like to think hua cheng treated yin yu badly on purpose, i dont like thinking hes cruel to him for the sake of being cruel like ive seen some people imply or outright suggest, i mean yin yu is obviously overworked but i think part of that is just hua cheng is so perfectionist about certain things (how the temples and manors look, how theyre run, anything that can be used for or by xie lian in the future) and he just doesnt see that its become a large burden on yin yu because he thinks this kind of stuff is just the rational thing to do, and that everyone should put as much thought into these things as he does. and if he doesnt feel like he can get things to be set up the way he wants it to be it becomes. catastrophic lol

so thats more of the pure ocpd side, though there is a lot of overlap between ocpd and ocd obvi

one thing about ocd is like. its all about wanting to be in control of every tiny part of your life. like for me when certain things are out of my control it freaks me out so much that it basically disables me. Its why I hate planes so much despite cars being statistically much more dangerous. Because if something happens in a car I at least have some semblance of control over how I can escape the situation. In a plane youre just. Fucked. (sorry to all pilots its nothing personal I think youre braver than I will ever be but its basically impossible for me to trust you (and the engineers and inspectors) with my life like that) anyway, i despise ambiguity of any kind and i hate not knowing things or having concrete answers to any questions or worries i have. like. i couldnt decide on a hypothetical grad school because i was weighing the possibilities down to like, ridiculous perceived probability percentages of how likely a natural disaster were to occur in the area, and how dangerous said natural disasters could be, etc. (well. i didnt have to worry about any of that in the end bc i got rejected from literally every school i applied to LMAO RIP but anyway.) so you get the gist. its all just very irrational, and time consuming, and ridiculous to try to gain control of every single possible path your life can take. AND I HATE IT. that was kinda yet another tangent but, to apply this concept to hua cheng. one thing that i find super funny about him is how he always has his nose in everyones personal business like hes such a fucking gossip girl its hilarious. like jokes aside its obvi helpful as a ghost king to know whats going on in the 3 realms, but i think he takes his info gathering up to 11 like he definitely has these control issues about having to know about everything thats going on at all times, having to be on top of everyones business so he cant be caught off guard by anything. over those 800 years of sending his butterflies out recording things he was primarily looking for xie lian, but hes also just kind of. snooping. lmfao. Because If He Doesnt Know Whats Going On Everywhere He Will Die. (again)

and well. with his butterflies to help him, it does work, i mean. hes always on top of things hes always got a plan, hes always the one that people are going to in the book if theyre in trouble. He seems so put together but the things he cant get information on completely eat him alive sometimes. cant let others know that tho, bc hes Cool(TM), hes Chill(TM). cant let anyone know there are things that, god forbid, hes IGNORANT of. embarrassing. tch.

his hoarding im a little ? about because i dont exactly remember the details of it but i do know he has a ridiculous amount of like trinkets and weapons and magical items and stuff in paradise manor, but i also know he doesnt really care if they get destroyed or not, which is kind of strange but i do what i want and im making him a hoarder bc im somewhat of a hoarder and i love projecting. though now that i think about it. like if i have a big pile of something that i dont want to get rid of, but someone else does it for me without asking or something happens to it like yeah i get angry but sometimes i also just get kind of relieved……….. idk.

so now about intrusive thoughts, i bet he has suuper disturbing ones. Like we  know how he was debating slaughtering those humans on mt tonglu but ended up not because xie lian would have saved them. obviously that was already a stressful unusual situation but like i dont think that kind of thing gets any better even when hes just like. chilling. he gets visions of himself burning ghost city to the ground or attacking humans or destroying his own ashes or otherwise causing harm to others, like yin yu. like he pretends he doesnt care about yin yu and he xuan and stuff but i do think hes fond of them, but he tries to keep his distance because 1) hes dumb and 2) he gets really freaked out by these violent thoughts he has about them. the worst is, when he finally meets xie lian again he gets these thoughts about him too and it takes literally everything he has not to like. throw himself into a volcano, or something.

and its already been established his self image isnt. great. which is a kind way of saying it. he thinks hes worthless and ugly, esp if he does even the slightest thing wrong. I mean I definitely think hes better by the current timeline of the book, but it still reads as a kind of precarious thing to me? Like he wants to be a companion to xie lian instead of just a servant like wu ming, but even after 800 years he still feels this inferiority and disregard for himself u know? If im explaining in an okay way? and body dysmorphia is also something that can be ocd related. OH and i forgot to say this before but ocd/ocpd can also sometimes be a way that ptsd can manifest and id definitely say with all that he was said to have gone through as a child he has ptsd, leading to, well, exacerbated ocd symptoms, among other things. his body dysmorphia is obviously something he internalized (for 800 years!!!) from when he was a child, and i can imagine him absolutely agonizing for centuries over his san lang form, because it was supposed to be his most perfect form, he needed to make it perfect, and he never felt like he could

similarly, for the cleanliness side of ocd that i feel is kind of stereotypical? at least how its portrayed in most media, hua cheng has been show a couple times not wanting to get things (or xie lian) dirty. he was very poor and dirty as a child so now he has the connection of being dirty = being miserable, and this is taken to the extreme when he becomes a supreme bc now hes rich and able to be clean and any dirt or blood on him or something/someone he cares about (’cant let you down the ground is dirty’; shielding the flower, etc) is like. an attack on this power he has now ? iykwim

Also ignore those parts where I might get a little too personal :^) like idk if it is but I feel like I might regret some of this in the morning. honks. Anywayyyy as you can see im completely normal about hua cheng im saaaaaauuuuur normal and well adjusted and I just think hes neat oky byeee jumps out my window
