James Vernor was a junior clerk at Higby and Sterns’ Drug Store in Detroit when he enlisted in the 4th Michigan Cavalry and was called to fight in the Civil War. At the time (according to company lore), he was experimenting with a stomach calming tonic of vanilla, spices and ginger, which he left behind in an oak cask. When Vernor returned four years later, he found that his elixir had transformed into a zesty, sweet, gingery drink complimented by the wood’s aging process. Soon after, Vernor opened his own pharmacy 235 Woodward Avenue, and its soda fountain became the first – and only! – place in the world to buy Vernor’s ginger ale in 1866.

Vernor was admired as a pharmacist. He closely scrutinized his prescriptions for quality, accuracy, and possible drug interactions. Vernor was meticulous about his work. Everything he did needed to meet his high standards. He served on the State Board of Pharmacy for eight years and was one of the driving forces to pass the state's first pharmacy law. He held Michigan's pharmacy license #1 all the years he practiced.

Like all good pharmacists, Vernor also had a soda fountain in his drug store.

As demand grew, Vernor began to sell his product to other Detroit soda fountains, but required that vendors purchase special equipment to serve the soda in order to ensure its quality. After gaining enough fame, Vernor was able to sell his soda throughout the Midwest. In 1896, he closed his pharmacy and opened a bottling plant at the foot of Woodward so that Vernors could be mass produced. 

James Vernor passed away at the age of 84 in 1927. The Vernor family was once asked when the first Mr. Vernor retired from business. The answer was, "A few hours before he died." He was a hard-working and energetic man. One that made his mark on the city of Detroit with both business and civic contributions.

The second James Vernor came into the business as early as he could, working alongside his father in the old drug store. In the beginning, the father and son team were the only employees. They often worked 16 hour days together washing bottles, making and bottling the ginger ale, delivering it to various sites in the city, and taking care of clerical duties. He was born in Detroit on March 25, 1877. It wasn't until his father died in 1927, though, that he became President of the James Vernor Company. It was in a great way due to the second James Vernor's influence and style that the company grew into an international organization. In 1896, James Vernor II entered the business and his father decided to concentrate full time on ginger ale.

The same standards that had been applied to the consistency of his prescriptions were applied to the consistency of Vernor's Ginger Ale. The water had to be specially purified. The blending needed the finest Jamaican Ginger distilled in the absolute proper proportion with other fruit juices. Even the carbonic gas used was produced by Vernor so it would meet their requirements.

In 1896, James Vernor II entered the business and his father decided to concentrate full time on ginger ale.

The drug store was closed in 1896 and a small plant established at the foot of Woodward Avenue, several blocks from his former drug store's location. The plant was devoted to the blending, aging, and bottling of Vernor's Ginger Ale.

In 1918, Vernor purchased the old Riverside Power Plant. In 1919 a six story main building was erected adjacent to the other two. In 1939, the 10-story Siegel building was purchased and renovated. In 1941, the "most modern bottling facility in the world" was completed at 239 Woodward Avenue.

The plant also had a spectacular soda fountain. Everyone who lived in Detroit in the 1940's and 1950's has a story about going to the Vernor's soda fountain, usually before or after a ride on the Bob-lo Boat. One of the favorite drinks to have was a Boston Cooler. The drink is a milkshake-like mixture of Vernor's and vanilla ice cream. Contrary to many incorrect web sites, the Boston Cooler is not named after Boston Boulevard in Detroit. At that period of time, any soda pop mixed with ice cream was called a Boston Cooler. So, you could have a Hire's Boston Cooler or a Vernor's Boston Cooler. Vernor's copyrighted the name in the late 1960’s.

James Vernor II had a son; another James Vernor. James Vernor III also had a son; James Vernor. Yet, the company did not pass on to either one of them. It is impossible to predict if the company would have remained in the family if either had been president. J. Vernor Davis, the grandson of the founder, took over the presidency of the company.

The James Vernor Company had always been a family owned company. The death of James Vernor II in 1954 forced the company to sell some stock to the public. In 1957, James Vernor III died. His majority ownership of Vernor’s went through a court battle and was ultimately sold to investors. As a result, Vernor’s was no longer in the hands of the founding family. Vernor's became Vernors in 1959. (Note the lack of the apostrophe between the 'r' and the 's'.)

Vernor Davis had been with the firm since 1931. Prior to the death of his uncle, he became president of the company, in 1952. James Vernor III was concurrently named vice president. Under Davis' leadership, company sales grew tremendously. A stockholder's annual report from 1963 indicates sales grew from just over $6,000,000 in 1961 to over $9,000,000 in 1963.

In 1966, the one hundredth birthday of the James Vernor Company, Davis became chairman of the board. That same year, Vernors was sold to another group of investors, members of the New York Stock Exchange. The company would soon go through a number of different owners.

Again in 1971, Vernors was sold to American Consumer Products. By 1979, another company, United Brands, owned Vernors. This ownership would be the one most costly to the City of Detroit. In January of 1985, Cincinnati-based United Brands abruptly ended bottling operations at the plant.

The property was purchased in 1986 by Shula Associates, who had plans to knock it down for a shopping mall. The plant was eventually demolished in 1987. A high-rise apartment building for Wayne State University is now on the Cass Avenue side of the site. On the Woodward frontage, a four story apartment complex with first floor retail space has been built. The property is directly north of the Whitney Restaurant and two properties north of Hop Cat Detroit.

Just two years after abandoning Detroit, United Brands sold Vernors to A & W Brands. All of A & W was subsequently purchased by Dr. Pepper/Cadbury in 1993. In 1996, Dr. Pepper/Cadbury merged with 7UP and moved to Plano. Cadbury continued to own Vernor's until stock holders made the candy company give up the beverage firm. Dr Pepper Snapple was born! The company merged with Keurig and is now Keurig Dr Pepper. The company has been very supportive of the Vernor's brand.

Are the ArchieSonic comics actually an 80's/90's syndicated cartoon? Episode 31: Time travel to the distant future year of 2000 (part two)

Welcome back to my look at the ArchieSonic comic series, and how it shared a lot of the same story tropes as a typical ‘80s or ‘90s syndicated cartoon! Today I’m continuing my look at time travel stories by following Silver the Hedgehog’s movements across time throughout the series.

Silver made his first appearance at the end of Sonic #194, travelling to Sonic’s time 200 years in Silver’s past to try and eliminate a “traitor” who had supposedly betrayed the Freedom Fighters.

At first he thought this was Sonic, but after fighting alongside him against Scourge, Silver decided he may have false information and went back to the future to do more research. 

…heh. “Back to the future.” See what I did there?

He next showed up in Sonic Universe #5, coming to the aid of King Sonic and his family in an alternate reality set 30 years in Sonic’s future.

Silver managed to stop an assassination plot against Sonic instigated by the Dark Presence’s vengeful leader, Lien-Da.

But not long after his heroic moment, Silver was knocked out by an undercover agent posing as Sonic’s staff and spent most of the rest of that arc unconscious. 😛

However he did wake up in time to help out King Sonic and his new team of Freedom Fighters in the fight against Tikhaos, an unstable fusion of Tikal and Perfect Chaos that had flooded the world in Silver’s time. 

Our first actual look at Silver’s future didn’t come until Sonic #215, when we saw him continuing his investigation to find the supposed traitor in the Freedom Fighters. While the world was no longer flooded it was still in ruins, and Angel Island was now partially submerged and renamed Onyx Island (as seen in Sonic Rivals). Silver decided to try and fix everything by going after Rotor this time, believing him to be a traitor just because his friends used to call him “Boomer.” 

Look, I don’t like boomers either. But if you think that killing them will save the future then…

…actually, you might be onto something. :P

When that lead didn’t pan out and Silver returned to his own time we were introduced to his two mentors.

The first one was the echidna Edmund, the last Guardian of Onyx Island. While it was never officially confirmed, it was strongly hinted at that Edmund was the grandson of Knuckles and Julie-Su, and son of their daughter Lara-Su and Vector’s son Argyle.

The second mentor turned out to be even more surprising - a supposedly reformed Mammoth Mogul, trying to atone for the role his inaction played in the world’s ruination. 

Silver’s next trip to the past (but from our point of view, still Sonic’s future) was in Sonic Universe #25. It ended up being another journey to an alternate reality where Knuckles had gone mad with power and become Enerjak again, wiping out almost the entire population of the planet. Silver teamed up with the local resistance against him, led by Lara-Su (calling herself Jani-Ca these days).

While Silver initially struggled going one on one with Enerjak, he eventually thought of his mentors’ teachings and managed to defeat Enerjak by turning his own power against him.

It’s worth mentioning that we first saw this version of Lara-Su back in Sonic #106, where she had also travelled back in time to try and prevent her dark timeline from occurring.

Much like Silver she had had bad information on what had happened, believing that Knuckles had been assassinated by Constable Remington when he had actually been trying to prevent an assassination.

She returned to her own timeline where her mother admitted the truth to her that Knuckles hadn’t been murdered at all but was actually the one who was taking over the world.

Silver returned to his mission of taking down the traitor in Sonic #235, when he uncovered “evidence” that Antoine was the one that had destroyed the Freedom Fighters. Mammoth Mogul gave him permission to return to the past to investigate, but getting tired of all of Silver’s previous incorrect accusations, told him that this time if he went he would have to remain in the past until he finally had gotten this right. Silver agreed and was sent back to Sonic’s time, where he immediately went to Sonic with his accusations.

…Sonic, quite understandably, did not take this well. He did however acknowledge that Silver had been right about one thing - with all the recent losses the team had taken, the Freedom Fighters were effectively finished. Silver was disheartened that he’d been wrong again, but was given new hope when he was approached by Harvey Who, the former head of King Max’s Secret Intelligence Division.

Having been pulled out of retirement by the deposed King Elias, Harvey offered to help Silver with his mission in return for him joining his Secret Freedom Fighter team.

Silver accepted and joined the effort to undermine the newly crowned King Naugus while Harvey Who investigated the supposed traitor among the Freedom Fighters.

With Harvey’s help Silver finally discovered the truth - the Freedom Fighter who had caused his bleak future was none other than Sally Acorn.

She had saved the world in Sonic #230 when she had destroyed Robotnik’s world roboticiser, but in doing so she had created a different apocalypse when the beam was inverted on her and turned her into the murderous robot Mecha Sally. This would ultimately lead to her destroying the Freedom Fighters and Eggman being able to take over the world without Sonic to stop him.

Silver was able to change the future at the last second by preventing Mecha Sally from killing Sonic, Tails and Amy… but we never got to find out what happened after that because Eggman activated the Super Genesis Wave and the world was reset for the comic’s reboot.

Post-reboot, Silver changed his mission from travelling through time to travelling through various alternate dimensions, closing the Genesis portals that had started popping up as a result of Eggman wreaking havoc on reality.

We did however get to see Silver’s new present time in The Silver Age arc in Sonic Universe #79 - 82. Onyx Island was now a dystopian empire ruled by the Onyx City Council. Silver teamed up with a telepathic tenrec named Gold and Professor Von Schlemmer (better known from Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog) to try to stop the Council from experimenting on the Genesis Portals and unleashing a monster called the Second Devourer on the world.

Quincey Harker must grow up surrounded by so much love... He has a doting weird old grandfather who teaches him incorrect expressions from a dozen different languages. A doting weird uncle who records bedtime stories for him on wax cylinders using his phonograph, and does all the voices. A doting rich uncle who absolutely just buys him expensive toys and pays for trips and doesn't think a thing about it, but also spends lots of time with him, got him a puppy and goes on walks together with him and helped him name it.

And of course, two loving parents. Nerds, both of them, but also far more badass than he knows. Parents who have always been there for him and always will be, who support him and love him unconditionally.

Jonathan and Mina started out as orphans, but their son never will be. He has a large and loving and present family.

(And some who he will never meet, but knows the importance of and loves anyway. Aunt Lucy, the sweetest woman who ever lived and who he loves because she is why his uncles and parents all know one another, whose tomb he visits with his mother every year to lay fresh garlic flowers in front of the door. Uncle Quincey, his namesake who apparently saved his mom's life and had a gun that his father has promised will be his too once he's old enough, one he apparently used to shoot at bats with.)

Another thing I really like is the steadily increasing erosion of Jonathan's PRIVACY.

When he first arrives at the castle, he talks with Dracula for a long time, but while the nocturnal schedule is weird, the conversation itself takes place in a socially acceptable setting. Plus, monopolizing his time in this way is to be expected in this situation. Dracula soon does come into his room unannounced when he's shaving, which is rude. But it's more on the level of walking into a houseguest's unlocked bedroom without knocking, not barging in on someone in the toilet or anything.

The locked doors restrict Jonathan's movements but aside from those locks he is allowed to walk around with only verbal warnings (which on the face initially sound somewhat reasonable). It's not until he breaks the rules by shoving open the stuck door and falling asleep outside his bedroom that there's any escalation. It's a big one in the moment: the attack of the ladies both reinforces the idea of danger lurking here/punishing him for disobeying, and positions the Count as something of a safety net against even worse dangers. There is also the first big breach of privacy, when Dracula carries the unconscious Jonathan to bed and changes him, then gaslights him about it all the next day.

Other breaches of privacy soon follow. He's told to write the pre-dated/scripted letters. And when he tries to send out an SOS, it's returned and burned in front of him, before he is locked in the room he's in for the rest of that day. When he gets back to his bedroom, he notices the next morning that all his papers, his ID, traveling clothes and bag, have been stolen. (Which is probably what Dracula was doing while Jonathan was locked in the drawing room. Probably why he was so cheerful upon returning.)

Jonathan's range of movement/safety has been reduced from the whole castle, to the halls and some rooms, to just HIS room, to his letters, to nothing at all but the journal he literally has stashed on his person at all times. And even then, the Count has changed his clothes while he was unconscious once before, and is able to climb through the windows/break the door open the way he broke the other one shut if the bedroom door were locked or barred. He's not just in danger — he has no refuge at all. Nowhere and nothing that feels out of the Count's reach, except his journal, which again is only if Dracula doesn't notice it. (Plus the intent was clearly that Jonathan would have nothing at all by this point, and his journal being safe is pure luck, so if it's discovered it would be treated as another betrayal/breaking of the rules.)

Not only can Jonathan not send a letter now even if he found a willing conspirator, but if he were to just flee despite the locks, he'd now have to contend with not only geographic isolation but also a lack of money/identification/travelling wear.

He's been pushed to almost a breaking point of just being completely reckless in search of freedom and safety... except Dracula is still acting like a friend. Jonathan is so entirely within his power, and every other time he's tried to rebel the consequences are swift and limiting. (Whereas, when he listens to the rules, days can go by without escalation.) There's not much further to go from here without openly acknowledging what's happening, and once he does that Dracula has no reason to hold back. It's the rock of "if I do nothing he'll just kill me eventually" and the hard place of "if I disobey again, what will he do this time?"

Again, great psychological horror.

Remember that treasure hunt Felix puts on for Daisy's birthday? I just want him to be persuaded to let Daisy and Hazel handle a case, but he doesn't want them to know he caved. So he sets up a 'game' where they're given a 'fake' murder and have to try and solve it. He gives them transcripts of all the interviews, descriptions of all the evidence while at the same time trying to persuade them that it's a fake murder

Except it's Hazel and Daisy Every time he asks 'what would you do if ...?', Daisy responds with something like 'Well that person seems awfully suspicious, so it would be round about this point that we break into their room' and Aunt Lucy just. watches Felix try and work around Daisy and Hazel's methods

Bonus points if he actually ends up taking one of their suggestions just to prove them wrong but it works.

Team Prime on April Fool’s

After Miko so excitedly explained what April Fool’s Day was to the bots, they decided then and there to have an absolutely massive prank war. Here’s what I think the bots (and humans) did:

Optimus: A total personality switch. Laughs every opportunity, smiles constantly, cracks jokes, even attempts to peck Ratchet on the cheek (which failed because Ratchet’s too darn small)! bumblebee grows increasingly concerned, especially when Optimus picks up and hugs him.

Ratchet: Speaking of the good doctor, he doesn’t seem to be participating. At least, not until he reveals that he hid about a hundred Autobot symbols around the base, and there’s a prize for whoever can find the most. The kids immediately go on a scavenger hunt. He didn’t hide any.

Bulkhead and Arcee: Joined forces. They’re an efficient team in nearly everything. From fake dating to a fire prank that almost goes horribly wrong,  they do every prank under the sun.

Bumblebee: Enjoys classic pranks such as whoopie cushions, bubble wrap under a rug, and switching the m and n keys on Raf’s computer somehow, but he decides to go all out and put tin foil on everything in the base the night before, much to Ratchet’s dismay!

Smokescreen: While he doesn’t really get the point of the holiday, he pulls a staple prank that fits his trademark: Saran Wrap over an entryway. While it’s obvious that there is indeed Saran Wrap there, he uses the phase shifter and tries to convince them that there isn’t any. His prank flops.

Ultra Magnus: Also doesn’t appear to be participating. However, he has the most elaborate prank ever planned. While most of the team is out on a mission, he requests Ratchet’s help in putting giant google eyes on everything that remotely looks like a face, and even on Airachnid’s stasis pod. He claims he had nothing to do with it.

Wheeljack: Leaves decoy bombs all around the base.

Raf: As payback for switching his laptop’s keys, he puts a bumper sticker on Bee that he says has something cool on it, when really it says “Honk, it’s April Fool’s Day!” Bee’s confusion is worth the swerves.

Jack: Actually doesn’t participate, claims he’s above all that childish prank nonsense. But one little shock pen for Fowler wouldn’t hurt, would it?

Miko: Tries to think of a good prank, but surprisingly nothing comes to mind. At least, not until she decides to put up pictures of the bots with mustaches and cat ears and top hats drawn on with sharpie around base.

June: Expertly avoids all pranks. Being a mother has its perks, you know.

Fowler: Too professional to participate in the prank war.

Day 1 January 15, 2020 – Written January 16, 2020

               So yesterday was the first official day of this twelve-week program. It was the first day that I would start writing this blog, and the first day that I would start doing a few things on a regular basis that I believe would help get my mental health in line, which I believe is of paramount importance to getting your physical health in line. I will elaborate on those at some point, maybe even today, I am going to be honest and tell y’all, I have no idea where these are going to go when I start writing.

Needless to say there was some excitement, and there was also some trepidation. Yesterday was a little grey for me.  I was upset with myself for my horrible dieting options on Tuesday. I am one of those people who continuously says “one last fat meal,” and no matter what, I absolutely regret it the next day. Another thing that made Yesterday a little grey for me was the fact that I was admitting my struggles with mental health to more people than just my therapist and my girlfriend. Some friends knew that I had issues with anxiety, and some friends knew about the struggles I had about eight years ago, but it was the first time I really said “hey, I am a little fucked up in the head.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsvyjePPFRs (shoutout to Adam on this one) It was good for me to admit that to this vast nothingness that is seemingly everything in the world, the internet. I also had a little bit of help, I don’t know if it was coincidence or what, but this video came across on youtube auto play and showed me that even the most successful people in the world deal with these issues. Yesterday was also a little grey because of the fact that I reread what I wrote, I thought it would make me feel good, proud, and a little Tranquilo, (that’s a little shout out to the wrestling nerd in me, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyTtyg_fylI) but it didn’t. I realize now that taking off and not writing for four years, was a bit of a mistake, but we’re back on the wagon. Hopefully I will look back on these entries and see an improvement, probably not, but maybe.

Anyway, looking back I was excited to finally step into the program, this is something that I have not interacted with since I played baseball in college all those years ago. Back then, I absolutely was disgusted with the idea to hop into a designed program. I was young and thought that whatever I could come up with would be just as good as anything they had. I was wrong. I cam into college weighing around 235, and the coaches weren’t shy about telling me that I was too big. I was cocky, and didn’t care about who was ahead of me on the depth chart or what other players were brought in at my position. My mindset was simple, “I am the best mother fucker here,” to this day I don’t know how wrong I was exactly, but I do know I was not the best player there, I was correct in one sense, I was one of the most out of shape people on that team. Their program, as well as them watching and ridiculing everything I ate, helped me get down to 205 pounds, which is now near the top of my goal weight range. I don’t know if that is significant to me because it’s the last time I felt confident in my body or what, because it definitely wasn’t a time that I was experience a healthy mind. So now, completely opposite of where I was about nine years ago, I am excited about the prospect of getting ‘fit.’

I looked toward the first day of this program as something that would be easy, fuck me, I couldn’t have been more incorrect. In the last month or two I was sporadically going to the gym and just focusing on my cardio, this did nothing for me but give me a little bit of piece from whatever I had going on, so it was good, but it was doing nothing for my physical fitness. The workout started with 500m on the row machine as a warmup, this literally took about 3 minutes, but it kicked my ass. 500m on the row machine kicking my ass should have been a telling sign to where this workout was going, but it was not. I did some lower body, body weight movements, and then headed to the squat rack to find my three rep max (3RM.) My legs were already burning, I got 225 with some relative struggle from fatigue, but being alone, I left it there. I will use 250 as my 3RM from now on. That is something that is tough for me to admit, 250 as a 3RM, I used to be able to squat over 400 pounds, that wasn’t something that was challenging when I was catching over 100 games a year, it was just another thing that I could do. Squats are one of the things that I would like to improve most on, right up there with cardiovascular health. I am sure my relative obesity for the last near decade probably has wrecked a little havoc on my heart health. Speaking of cardio, that’s how the workout ended, with 12 minutes of as many as possible cardio circuit, fam I about died. This workout gave me a headache like I haven’t had since eighth grade basketball. I guess these headaches are kind of common, excretion headaches, and I am probably going to get them for the next week or so, oh boy!  

Anyway, this blog isn’t just to update y’all on workouts, its to keep myself in check. Letting myself down is something that I have become familiar with, so I am hoping, that it some way, this makes me think that I am letting everyone else down too. So some things that I am going to detail, is what I ate, and what times (so I fit with my intermittent fasting,) whether I am keeping up with actually doing my hair on workdays, and shaving my face 3-5 times per week so I don’t look like a hungover bum at work. There are probably other things that I will get to doing as well, but I am trying to evolve and will come up with those throughout the next three months.

 Workout today: A GD struggle, and it was only 45 minutes

Diet: A few cups of coffee and about a half gallon of water In the morning. 1:35 Two pieced of grilled chicken, Brussel sprouts, and cooked peppers and onions. 4:30: Beef chuck roast, baked potato and broccoli. 8:45: Protein shake and a spoonful of peanut butter (I plan to do better than this, but yesterday was a bit sporadic)

 Sleep: 6 hours ( trying to get 6-8 daily)

Therapy: Check

Yes I did my hurr, nope I didn’t shave my stubble.

My apologies for these first two being so long, but I am having a good deal of reflection as I try to start this new path.

Players who prime targets for combos will now also see the “Combo” text when detonated by another player.

Increased the damage of the Electric status effect when applied to creatures.

BUG FIXES

Creatures

Fixed additional issues where the Titan fireball projectile attack was hitting players when they successfully dodged/evaded.

Fixed an issue where the Titan would not always use all of its available attacks.

Javelins

Adjusted environmental lightning strikes to not target javelins directly as frequently.

Fixed an issue where the predicted gear score was inaccurate if you were selecting to equip a higher tier component than was currently equipped.

Fixed a bug where the Colossus shield wouldn’t appear when deployed to other players in the squad.

Resolved several issues where status effects remained on the player far longer than the actual effect (e.g. the Frozen status effect appearing on the javelin after the effect has ended).

Fixed a problem where the Legion of Dawn rifle disappears from the forge while in the Launch Bay

Fixed a bug where ammo pick-ups weren’t restoring any ammo in the current magazine for the Devastator Sniper Rifle.

Fixed the Striker’s Balance weapon so that the weapon accuracy and projectile trajectory should be corrected when the bonus is applied.

Corrected Torrent Autocannon description text to match current functionality.

Fixed a bug where Avenging Herald was incorrectly applying its bonus damage to secondary weapons while holstered. This bonus is now only active when Avenging Herald is the active weapon.

All Devastator Sniper Rifle weakpoint hit multipliers have been corrected to a 1.75 multiplier.

Text Descriptions

Updated “Critical Damage” to “Weakpoint Damage” in any text descriptions.

Fixed an issue where targeted creatures in freeplay would lose their target icon if you flew too far away from the arena and returned.

Fixed an issue where sentinels disappeared from the Sentinel Support World Event, making it impossible to complete the event.

Fixed an issue where you couldn’t progress in the Tombs of the Legionnaires quest if one member of your squad had not unlocked that quest yet.

Fixed an issue where you couldn’t interact with and enter the Tomb of Artinia when you had completed the requirements to unlock it.

Picking up some collectible archives were limited to the player that interacted with them.  Now all players within 100m of the player collecting the archive will automatically collect the archive as well.

Fixed an issue where turrets could spawn too far away from the world event location.

Fixed an issue where being downed in the Arcanist Korox Study world event would not reset properly when you came back.

Strongholds

Downed players are now automatically revived when the stronghold boss is defeated.

Temple of the Scar: Fixed an issue where the fog wall visual effect remained, even though it didn’t actually prevent the player from progressing.

Temple of the Scar: Fixed an issue where the player could escape the world near the waterfall.

Tyrant Mine: Prevented turrets from spawning in the second area before players were led there and the rest of the enemies had spawned in to fix an exploit.

Heart of Rage: Fixed an issue where enemies could be trapped behind a fog wall, preventing the player from progressing.

Heart of Rage: Fixed an issue where killing the titan without entering the arena would cause you to respawn backwards, making it impossible to advance and complete the mission.

Legendary Missions: Fixed an issue where the final chest would never appear at the end of the mission if you were too far away from the chest.

A big sign with a neon and the name of the bar in a simple font embellished with a martini glass and an olive on a toothpick, flashing with purple, green and red did attract attention but wasn't anything special enough to attract the looking for adventures New Yorkers. Inside was inviting and warm, with round mahogany tables and comfortable chairs and a small lamp in the middle of every table. There were a bar and a stage with silver, glittery curtains, promising entertainment and a good time. It was a bar like many in New York. But late evenings, magic happened inside.

Steve's knee was bouncing in nervous excitement, not following the rhythm of the music seeping in the background, just pure nervousness dictating the rhythm. He had to be careful to not bash his leg on the underside of the table and cause the drinks to spill all over the red cloth. It wasn't his first visit to the bar. In fact, since the first time he stepped into The Olive, as regulars used to call it, he became a steady customer. A steady customer with a very good reason to keep coming back. A very good, embarrassing reason.

"Will you calm down?" Sam hissed, sitting at the other end of the table. The grip Steve had on an empty glass of Long Island Ice Tea was alarmingly tight and Sam began to worry that some accident involving shredded glass and blood might happen soon.

"Can't help it," Steve answered miserably, looking longingly at his wristwatch. Still, ten minutes remained. Why couldn't time go faster?

"Pathetic," Sam remarked, shaking his head at his friend's behavior. He knew Steve since forever and knew that the blond was usually better in control of his emotions. Just this place had such weird effect on him.

"Um, excuse me!" Steve called, stopping the walking past by waitress.

"Yes?"

"Is --- is she---"

The girl eyed Steve, nicely contoured lips curling into a smile. "Oh, honey, she is here. She is just getting ready for the show."

That calmed down Steve a little bit. The minutes before the show started were always killing him. "Thanks, Arrow," he answered, of course knowing the waitress' name. He knew all names of the employees of the Olive.

"Can I get you, boys, anything else?" Arrow asked, gently taking the empty glass from Steve's clutches and on putting it on the tray she was caring, a single strand of red hair slipping out of the green hood. Arrow's thing was fantasy looks. She rocked it in green cape going down to her nicely shaped butt, and a belt with big buckle was hugging her waist, bringing out the feminine shape of the body clad in a green leather suit.

"The same, please," Steve asked politely.

"And for you, sugar?"

Sam cleared his throat before answering, knocking his fist on the table. "Beer, please," he said, sounding an octave lower than usual.

Steve raised an eyebrow. He mouthed 'beer, really?' with an evilly happy smile and Sam clenched his teeth and gave a signal with his eyes to not push it. Despite being a regular like Steve was, Sam still had problems to order drinks with a straw and a small umbrella.

"Got some masculinity to prove there, pal?" Steve asked happily, just because he sometimes liked to tease his friend. Part of the being best friends deal.

"Steve," Sam warned.

"He will have the most vibrant and pink cocktail you have on the menu," Steve changed Sam's order, smiling gleefully at Arrow, who laughed in a voice deeper than she used to talk earlier.

"Hey," Arrow turned her blue eyes to Sam, deciding to jump on the torment Sam wagon. "Aren't you the one working at Mama's Little Bakery in downtown? The one with pink and frilly curtains in the windows?"

"HA!" Steve laughed, maybe a bit too loud, but the sound got lost in the already getting crowded room, and Sam's terrified look was just too priceless. Sam was someone Steve liked to call a closet baker, he could make the most amazing cakes, learning his whole life from his mom who was a master baker. It was obvious that one day he would take over the family business and continue to supply New York with delicious, homemade cupcakes and pastries.

"Beer, please," Sam repeated, his voice getting some squeakiness.

Arrow rolled her eyes and jutted her hip. "You're straight, I get it," she replied, walking away, her high heels clanking gently on the wooden floor.

"Damn straight, I am straight," Sam remarked in a low grumble, his eyes going to the bar area where Arrow was leaning and placing an order. "Straight as an uncooked spaghetti noodle…" he said, his voice losing its anger and getting a softer note that sounded a lot like longing when he watched a person behind the bar. Big, frilly dark hair, dark eye makeup, pink lips. She laughed hearing the order and started to prepare the drink for Steve first, moving smoothly and gracefully, the bright pink fur bolero and giant silver hoops in her ears, not constricting her movements in the slightest. Underneath the fur was a silver top with leopard print on spaghetti straps and knowing her, she had to wear small shorts and boots going way past her knees. Sam couldn't help but stare.

"You know, Sam, you could just go and talk to her," Steve advised gently, looking at his friend. "Under all that makeup, there is a regular person inside."

Sam turned his eyes away from the bartender and looked irritated at his friend.

"Really? You are the one to give me that kind of talk?" Sam asked, raising his eyebrows.

"I am just saying," Steve said, grinning a bit too broad, knowing that they were heading into a dangerous topic, and leaned closer, minimizing the distance between him and his friend, "the world changed, Sam. Masculinity and femininity are not that far apart anymore. And who would be better to talk about this than a drag queen?"

Did we mention earlier that The Pitted Olive was a drag queen bar?

Sam just frowned deeper and for a moment, Steve sensed the tension in the air. He almost backed away, knowing that it was better to give his friend plenty of time to process, when it was Sam who first loosened up and lowered his shoulders, seemingly accepting what he heard.

"You know what?" Sam started, no hostility in his voice. "I will go talk to Tootsie, if you go talk to your girl."

Steve blushed, hoping that it wasn't too obvious in the dim light of the bar. "That's different," he said weakly, fidgeting in his seat. It really was different.

"Well, under all that makeup there is a regular person inside," Sam smiled a bit too obvious when Steve sent him a dry look, "someone once told me that. Can't remember who. Sounds dumb anyway."

Steve laughed. Reverse psychology. How cute. The moment ended when Arrow walked over and placed their drinks on the table.

"Here you go, boys," she said, putting a fresh glass of Long Island Ice Tea in front of Steve and a mug of ale near Sam. Sam gagged a bit in panic, when in the white foam he saw a pink umbrella, standing tall and proud. At the reaction, Arrow smiled and walked away, not before winking at Steve.

"I think that's a sign," Steve hummed, sipping his drink with a satisfied smile. Sam tried to be discreet and looked in the bar area, but the girl was already occupied with serving more drinks. The show was almost starting and she had to serve everyone before, not to interrupt her sister.

"Ladies and gentleman, may I have your attention please!" came a voice from the intercom and the lights dimmed slowly, leaving a spotlight on the stage. Steve whipped around to face the stage and finally bashed his knee, but he couldn't care less about the pain, looking expectantly at the stage.

"Let's welcome the star of the evening, the sweetest and tastiest cake in town, Miss Red Velvet!"

Everyone started clapping to welcome the performer, but it was nothing in comparison to how rapidly Steve's heart started beating. Through the silver curtains showed a hand, and pushed the fabric open, letting it drape a bit over herself, and prolonging the moment. When the person walked out and to the middle of the stage accompanied by applause, Steve had to try hard to not stand up and start whistling.

She was stunning. Milky white skin, long dark silky hair flowing in a cascade down her shoulders and ending above a perfectly round rear. Steve knew that majority of the drag queens used pads to give their bodies more feminine shapes, but there was a rumor that Red Velvet wasn't one of them. She stood in the middle of the stage in a sparkly red gown hugging her hourglass figure and going down all the way to the floor, very probably hiding red heels underneath. A perfectly countered face and perfect dark eye make up showed nearly artistic skills. And those lips! Plump and red as cherries. Steve never saw Red Velvet in any other color than red, which was her trademark sign. She was absolutely gorgeous and Steve had been mesmerized since the first time he saw her on the stage.

"Hello everyone!" Red Velvet greeted the crown, smiling softly and charming. Her blue eyes scanned the crowd, which she could see perfectly thanks to the small lit lamps on every table. "I can see some new faces," she greeted the newcomers with positive energy, getting an overwhelming cheer in return as she waved and sent kisses. "And---" she continued, her eyes stopping on Steve's and Sam's table for two seconds longer than on everyone else, "--- some familiar faces."

Steve almost had a heart attack out of joy. The moment was magical, but before he could truly embrace it, Red Velvet took out the mic from the stand and began walking on the stage.

"I wrote a new song and would love to share it with you all," she said in her smooth, velvety voice, and Steve felt like melting. The crowd around him started to disappear and blend into the background. It was now only him and Red Velvet.

Red Velvet made some gesture with her hand and piano music started to seep, filling in the room and Steve's heart. Calming and soothing and sad. Red Velvet closed her eyes and started to sway her beautiful hips to the gentle music.

"This is the night I've been dreaming of forever. The mirror takes a look at my face. I'll never set foot in that rat hole again. But I'll drive to your place."

Steve watched and listened, adoring every word, every subtle gesture. The way light fell on her face and long eyelashes cast shadows on pale cheeks. Her voice was smooth and deep, but raspy on the edges, showing some masculinity. It was a beautiful mix. 

"This is a habit I'm breaking now forever, I'm weary from trying to shake it, so when I ask if you don't give me your hand I'll take it. Right now!"

Red Velvet opened her eyes and reached her hand forward. Steve wanted to take it, to hold it, to kiss it. To be there for her at every moment.

And then it hit him.

There was no her.

Red Velvet was a part of someone else. Someone else Steve didn't know and probably would never have an occasion to meet. Everything he ever imagined about Red Velvet might not be true.

"It's funny now when I don't show up on Monday, they'll go nuts, and eat their hats, well, what do you think of that?"

Steve bit his lip, his thoughts spiraling deeper and deeper. His dream woman would remain a dream. But… underneath all that makeup was a regular person. Oh, the irony. He had to listen to his own advice after all.

"He says, you're throwing life away, to move with a girl like me, he's not blind, he just don't have a mind to see…"

The song ended on a sad note and Steve was back again, together with the crowd and clapping with everyone else. His mind cooled down and he felt that he could think more rationally, yet when Red Velvet smiled gratefully at the audience, his heart did that weird flip-flop thing he heard about only from the movies.

His heart was telling him one thing, while his mind was telling him something entirely different. It was a struggle to separate the voices and try to tell dreams and reality apart.

But why try to break something that went together hand in hand? He just had to say it. For his own sanity. It was hard, but he had to, to quiet his heart and mind.

"I am going to meet with her, Sam," Steve said, his eyes not leaving the person on the stage. Time to meet his dream and face the reality. And saying that Sam's face became one of a pure shock, was an understatement.

[365day2021]

Day 27

Woke up around 752 and got to work at 850. It was supposedly my OOS day today but got called in for the morning part (not really as you’ll see later). I did visuals until the opening, originally not knowing there was something to do so I just did some repair room stuff with Ethan like putting away screen covers and going to offsite to get more display adhesive for 11 pro max but then when I went out to the front I saw there were new graphic panels they were working on doing. So I helped out with that, Corey directing and me and Adam putting all three of them up. It was my first time doing it and it wasn’t too bad, actually pretty fun to do. After we were done, me and Kiki tore up the old ones and shoved them in a bag that Adam and Jason took out. Afterwards, I just helped look at plano to see if we needed to bring out anything (12W adapters and digital AV adapters) and then Chris Merron gave me a quick coaching follow up (I just talked about me struggling with business). That’s all that pretty much happened in the download, and nothing too much there until the end where Somhairle shouted me out for doing the first 12 repair and being successful. After opening, I went on operator until 130, with most of it being with Hannah and we finished up the calls for today and some for tomorrow morning.

I spent about 20 minutes of my “lunch” getting advice on whether not I should write out a letter saying we’re ending out lease or just going over there and telling them. Decided to just type one out after asking Traci, Kiki, and Crystal and I had Crystal help me out and when I mean help she literally just typed it for me. Olivia and I thanked her and now I thought I was going to just go home and “do training” for the rest of my day since it was OOS, but of course my nice ass made sure with Heather and Mel that they didn’t need me and OF COURSE they tell me to stay to do more operator calls. I had a whole plan to go grocery shopping and do other errands but now I had about 40 minutes left to do some things and eat and then come back to work. I guess I shouldn’t be mad, but still annoying they asked me to stay when I had things planned. Anyway, I took the time to go to the post office to pick up my PK Fire deck since it arrived this morning and i’m impatient, went back home to get my leftover chicken and broccoli and went back to the mall and bought fried rice from Mandarin Express then ate. I came back around 235 when I said my lunch started at 135 but I just ate super fast I was done in 10 minutes and no one noticed I was late. Honestly the rest is just Operator calls until 6, and that was mostly done with Corey. I spent the first hour-ish out in front of the store since Brian and Corey were in the business office, then I moved in there with Corey. The only call that actually is worth talking about was this 72 y/o woman who’s “issue” was that she was filling out a CoVID-19 form to get a shot and it said that the date was “incorrect” so she believed that there was something wrong with her phone maybe when she first set it up and she wanted us to check what she did wrong and change whatever number is messed up. I tried to get her to do it over the phone but NO she has no idea how to work her phone and NEEDS to come into the store. I said that that’s okay but we’re only allowed to see her for 15 minutes max and she took that as we were incompetent since she believed it should take less than that to figure out what’s wrong. It was like a 13 minute call with ending on a good note at the very least but just SO annoying.

Anyways, did all that until 6 and left and walked out with MayMay since she got off at the same time. Went home, put away my laundry and made sure the deck looked good and then I went out to Comic Kings to buy 2 packs of sleeves, 4 packs of Phantom Rage (really only bought it to pull one common card which I did) and 3 super Gamma’s since they were pretty cheap ($8 a piece when they’re almost 10 on TCG and I asked to buy for $21 and Bryan said yes). After that I went to Aldi and grocery shopped for hopefully the next 2 months. Spent about $54 and went home and put away all the groceries. For like the next hour I spent that sleeving the deck and organizing my binder, watching Mango stream, and eating a philly cheese steak calzone I got from Aldi. I then checked discord and noticed Tele and Spot were on so I hopped in the call cause why not. I offered to play teams and they were down if I could find one more. I saw BZimm was streaming and his title was (singles or teams idk) so I asked him in his chat if he wanted to play and he did. So we played for a good hour prolly with me teaming with Tele. After that BZimm was done and Egg wanted to play so we played until Spot was done playing (switched teams and it was me and Spot). Then Malco came on to replace Spot and we played until we were done around 115 AM. I just did like 2 test hands with the PK Fire deck and then went back to my bed and it’s 208 AM now and man today was a super long day.

my rating on different Naruto ships

(this is MY opinion, you dont have to agree)

Sasusaku: -∞/10. would not recommend. gives the 'imma chase you down until i get yo dick' vibe because thats literally what happened.

Naruhina: -∞/10. would also not recommend. gives the 'imma sacrifice myself so you can accept my love. im basically guilt-tripping you' vibe. cause thats literally what happened.

Shikatema: 7/10. Cute but don't ship. the shippers are chill as hell. we stan respect.

Minakushi: 10/10. yes. just yes❤️.

Inosai: 8/10. I ship. most healthy out of all of the canon relationships. right next to shikatema.
