Indian Chaotic Academia Pt. 1
Wanting to wear jumpers and hoodies but changing your mind after looking at the daily temperature
Scoring 97% in English in your board exams but your spoken English makes you sound like you are an illiterate crackhead
Messy yet (somewhat) intelligible handwriting
A weak spot for old Bollywood songs regardless of your personal taste in music
Wanting to study in a park or a cafe but you can't as they're too loud and busy
Adrak chai is the solution to everything
Muting the class WhatsApp group so you can read angsty fanfiction at 3 a.m. without alerting your parents
Buying several highlighters but still end up using blunt pencils to mark important study material
At some point, a B is the best grade you'll ever find in your report card
Reading the Mahabharata at the back of the class in the same way you would read a modern novel ("Nooo, why did he have to die 😭")
Coming up with ideas for study charts but never actually making them
The poem you have to learn in your regional language class is actually your favourite childhood song
Getting the 'Slytherin house' that always comes last in every school event

the Indian education system, an introduction:
*zero creativity allowed* *there is only one right answer (even in "your opinion" questions)* *ncert is law* *teachers don't teach after 10th standard, "beta aap tuition jaate hoge"* *tuitions/coaching classes + school* *exams every month* *revision tests with incomplete syllabus* *finals with syllabus completed at 10x speed* *paying for school but learning from YouTube* *misogyny* *mental breakdowns at 13-15 years of age* *pressure* *PRESSURE*

I swear, being a humanities student in India is like being the main character in "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost

The Prof. told us to make a thesis on ancient civilizations. He said and I quote "Include as many civilizations as you can, the more the merrier! " bitch I know you aren't even gonna read the entire thesis.
So anyways, I chose the ancient Indian, Greek, Egyptian and Scandinavian civilizations cuz I actually have a pretty good knowledge on them. And today I went to submit my work along with gang. (who also chose the same four civilizations as me, we did it together). And that professor had the audacity to tell us that we need to include more civilizations. BITCH WE LITERALLY WROTE MORE THAN 100 PAGES ON FOUR HUGE ASS ANCIENT COUNTRIES AND CULTURES. I fucking swear to god, college is making me hate history and I'm gonna actually kill myself if I ever lose my passion for the subject cuz of college.

So Currently I am in Kota for IIT-JEE prep and coming here was eye opening to me. Never had I ever imagined a place so depressing that too a place full of youngsters. Most of the people I’ve met here who are serious about their studies and career are suffering from depression. I really think that the Indian education system really needs to shift the way it puts so much pressure on young minds that kind of restricts them to just the covered syllabus for their grade instead of giving them opportunities to go think out of the box and do stuff that they are actually passionate about. I am 16 and I have no passion can you imagine this!? I was asked by my college counsellor to write 5 things I am passionate about I had nothing to write. That’s when I realised that I was so stuck up with grades and academics that I never actually figured myself out. It’s really sad that thousands of students commit suicide. Can you imagine this and I won’t even blame them to be honest, the amount of pressure that is put especially during 11th and 12th grade is unimaginable. Every one gets into a rat race of getting into the best colleges of their fields (which most of the time is either decided by their parents or based on what their friends are choosing). Since I have come here I could not stop wondering what is my passion and i don’t know about passion but it really just makes me think and wonder if I can do something to change this.
