Elections are inalienable to any democratic system and in order to ensure the free and fair conduct of elections, an efficient and dynamics electoral law is needed. Law, by its very nature, needs to be modified regularly or else it either fails to perform its functions or it itself withers away. Indian electoral system faced the absence of reforms for a very long time. While electoral systems in most of the countries are regularly updated as per the needs of the society. In India, however, there has been a severe lack of reforms in the electoral law which has greatly affected the efficiency of our democracy. Introducing reforms in any system is not an easy task as a change is always resisted by a large number of people who see status quo as the only acceptable position. If we analyse the history of electoral reforms throughout the world, then we find that even some of the basic and inalienable features of the present day electoral systems faced a severe resistance when they were introduced. #election #electoralreform #indianelections #democracy #hope #disillusionment #cycle #LegalWires https://legal-wires.com/columns/electoral-reforms-in-india-issues-and-prospects/ https://www.instagram.com/p/CBxmBY7gUN_/?igshid=15y6x66ffof3w

Shaping a Political Campaign in India
During elections, political parties leave no stone unturned with their campaigns. These campaigns require strategic marketing techniques to win votes with a majority. Over the years, these strategies have evolved with trial and error and digital advancements. Politics around the world has shifted towards using digital media mainly using social media platforms and search engine optimisation, as a dominant part of campaigns. However, in India old and traditional campaigning is also still prevalent which includes politicians personally going to their respective constituencies, assuring the needs of people, handing out giveaways, giving speeches and portraying one as the most suited to bring about positive change. Building an image is extremely crucial and a  prototype for any politician. The fundamentals of that politician are what brings in the votes.

The Ayodhya Dispute has been the longest standing property dispute in Indian history, beginning around 1855. After over a 140 years, India's Supreme Court last week gave a verdict that could lay the issue to rest, once and for all - awarding the disputed site to Hindus, and arranging for an alternative site for Muslims. However, does the judgement pass the litmus test of a secular democracy? Or does it leave a lot to be desired? Parth Maniktala from Faculty of Law, University of Delhi explains the over 1000 page judgement, so you don't have to read it. Indian National Congress: Communication Tonality & Strategy for Subodh Kant Sahai (Ranchi Constituency) for the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections
For the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, I worked as an independent communication strategist for the candidate from the Ranchi constituency - Shri Subodh Kant Sahai who has been a former Home and Tourism Minister under the UPA government.
After a month and a half of on-ground research, I took a two pronged approach for his communication strategy. I also developed a brand code where all creatives had a similar look and feel and used the same fonts and colours to ensure the visual recall value remained high.
A conscious decision run a positive campaign sans mud slinging as, as per research, since the campaigning at the national stage had gotten ugly, people wanted to hear a voice of hope and not negativity.
MERI RANCHI
A campaign that ran as a voter awareness campaign where people talked about the change they’d like to see in Ranchi. The idea was not to talk about the failures of the present government but showcase what needs to change in Ranchi. This campaign saw a presence in terms of hoardings, radio ads, onground activation and over 400 videos and interviews posted across multiple digital platforms. This campaign was developed as a voice of the people where they talked about the gaps in development in their constituency

MERI RANCHI MERA SUBODH
The Meri Ranchi campaign was ultimately morphed into the campaign for the candidate where we popularised the hashtag Meri Ranchi Mera Subodh for all digital posts along. Pre-nomination, the main tagline used was Sahaj Saral Sabke Subodh around which content was developed accordingly. It then progressed to Vinamra Anirodh, Chuinye Subodh, and content around that line was created accordingly. Both of these taglines were born of the ethos of what Meri Ranchi Mera Subodh aimed to capture. As mentioned earlier, the visual brand code was to remain similar so that there was instant visual recall. This again was spread across outdoor, onground activations and digital.
The dissemination of all content was also planned by me.

The world's largest democracy held elections, and the verdict is out today. Although some expected surprises, the Indian electorate believed that the present government is the best to lead them into the future, given the alternatives. Personally, I'm not in full agreement with the verdict. Although I did not exercise my franchise (which does not allow me the freedom to criticise the outcome), I was one of the few who thought there would be a change in the establishment. This may well have stemmed from my myopic perspective and the personal biases I hold. However, I know that this government has brought about change in the past five years, in spite of an excessive use of appeals to emotion rather than tangible action. I hope that over the next five years, they put more money where their mouth is. What do you think of the election results? Did you go out and vote?
