If it makes you feel better Im a huge c!tommy apologist but I still see the killing c!tubbos bees and burning down his house as canon like c!tommy is an asshole, I can admit that. Its always confused me how people refuse to see early events as un-canon especially when they impact the story or when they cherry pick like people will see c!dream in c!tommys walls as canon but won't see how c!tommy acted in that time as canon like a lot of people forgot c!tommy built sewers through c!georges and c!dreams home which further turned the greater smp against l'manberg.

I mean it doesn't make me feel that much better... Perhaps we should make an award for Tommy apologists who actually believe in canon? lol jk jk XD luv u <3 <3... For real though this is something that really frustrates me and after seeing a bunch of posts recently and looking at the dsmp wiki, while putting together the scavenger hunt, and noticing some huge errors, I am really close probably going to posting something regarding Tommy lore inaccuracy, especially relating to this early era of streams.

It's just so frustrating to see, like I can't even really give a good look at some people's analysis, argument, or opinion because I'm still stuck on the lore inaccuracy. Makes me want to pull my hair out, but to be fair, with the wiki being wrong, surely I can't blame people too much. But seriously am I the only one who actually watched these streams or what?! I don't understand, how can we be going around talking about disc duo, writing hundreds of words of fanfiction and analysis on them and not even recount something like the actual disc saga properly...

Over and over, like you said, things like Dream in Tommy's walls is brought up [clip], and yet no one ever talks about the context of that. Like it literally takes place during a scuffle shortly after they tried to blow him up in the nether. And I don't know about you, but people plotting to kill me seems like a fairly reasonable time to spy on them...

that and well... he just loves being in de walls apparently [clip] :)

And yea, the sewer is another good example, in fact that happens before L'manberg, they just don't realize until that stream where they are preparing for the war [clip] [clip]. But yea it definitely fuels George's anger for Tommy and his crew and by extension Dream. I still can't believe they did that. :( so rude. I mean look how cute he is building it.

From Fruits Basket, I think you’d fit best with Yuki. The two of you have similar hobbies, and I think you’d get along well. He’s polite, so he’d get along with your family and friends, and he’s very respectful of boundaries. He’s not particularly touchy, so he has no problem letting you warm up to physical contact. Like you, he’s also not a fan of big gatherings or meeting new people, but he has no problem with taking the lead in those situations, especially for your sake. You both enjoy reading and learning, and he will recommend you books if you ask. He would also enjoy any gifts you give him, and he’d praise any crafts you make. 

From Obey Me, I think you’d fit best with Satan. He’s calm and quiet for the most part, and he’s very good at controlling his emotions when he needs to. He’s good with friends and family, never too formal or too casual. With him, you’d never have to worry about your boundaries being crossed, and he is very happy to just exist with you. He’s not the best at baking, but he can cook, so the two of you would have fun trying new recipes together. He’s also big on reading of course, and he’d give you special permission to pick out any books from his room. While he is social from time to time, he’d never drag you to big social events. If you’re required to go to any, he’s staying by your side the entire time to make sure you’re comfortable. The theater isn’t high up on his list of interests, but he does enjoy it from time to time, and going with you would make it even better for him. 

For Twisted Wonderland, I think you’d fit best with Riddle. After his Overblot, he’s calmed down a lot, which means he’s had a lot of time to work on himself. While he still has his faults, he’s much kinder, and he’s also very respectful. He gets along well with your friends and family, as first impressions are very important to him. His dorm is known for throwing Unbirthday parties often, and if you ever bake something for a party, he’d be so happy. That being said, if you’re not up for such a big gathering, he completely understands, as even he gets overwhelmed by them sometimes. Compared to most, he’s not very experienced with receiving gifts, so anything you give to him will be cherished forever, no matter how small it may be. He also loves recommending you books and listening to music with you. Since you like event planning, he’d also be more than happy to let you help out with an Unbirthday party if you’d like.

THE ORGS

The Organisations that run the world have many names, but few of them are common knowledge in the city below, which is how the Orgs like it. Quite a few have rebranded, amalgamated and so forth over the centuries, often to discard - or embrace - certain images about them. 

The difference between an Org and a company is one of size, and also legal protections. Orgs are quite literally too big to fail and designed to survive no matter what some component parts of them do. Companies can be split off from orgs and connected to more than one, but have far much more liability and worries if they fail.Org and Company are used interchangeably in the cities below, but not those above. 

Orgs are, also, not Evil Corporations. (The Reach is closer to this, but the Reach is also trying to fight wars and defend humanity from threats people know nothing about, without either the budget or manpower to do this.)  Work for an Org, and you are treated well. Screw them over, and they end you. This doesn’t mean they are perfect: Orgs test each other, and some dissolve and are remade every century or so but that is more ‘this was getting stagnant’ more than ‘they did Evil Things’ and there is a lot of overlap and trade between them. Orgs have their secrets but don’t fight each other as no one benefits from that. 

(Orgs want to run the world: a world that’s ruined isn’t one they can run. So their overall goals are pro-humanity, more people and more options makes for a better world. It’s established policy that the ‘VR age’ as the current age is being called, is transitory as the word is fixed from the Faceless Wars and enough deals made with aliens to keep the world safe enough from threats.) 

The Archive: a future library. The Archive is the only Org most people see as ‘good’ but they believe all knowledge should be free and accessed by anyone, the latter a position no other Org takes. Members of the Archive will do anything to ‘free’ information, and not give a damn about who is injured or ruined in the crossfire. They are holy warriors for Truth. 

Church of the Future Son: this is a company, not an Org, and exists to prolong the lifespan of humanity and create the ‘perfect’ human. They try to avoid using non-human traits at all, at least publicly and employ no cybernetics at all. 

INH {Insert Name Here :)} is a terrestrial-only Org that metes out laws and justice on earth and helps keep the cities - above and below - running. They have large security forces that other orgs and companies employ. They supply many mercenaries to those who need them and have perfected various means of extraction and have contacts and alliances with most every other org to this end. 

The only prominent one in the novel. 

The Reach: This isn’t an org per se, but more the alliance of 4-5 other major Orgs that deals with space, jumps, aliens and the ‘wars’ going on that most of humanity knows nothing about. The Reach is the wealthiest org, but also the one spread thinnest as humanity doesn’t have the resources to fight against the many alien species we can Jump to, nor prevent incursions. The Reach exists to make us seem more threatening than we are, and works to that goal. 

It also exists so that none of the orgs that make it up can be blamed for what the Reach does. Even by the standards of the Orgs that run the world, this is a major concern for worry. Which says a lot even among their numbers of the kind of terrible things they’ve done to safeguard and protect humanity. 

(EX: Cloned troops, cyborgs with almost nothing human left to them, automatons designed solely for murder and mendal soldiers whose only purpose is to die and take out as many non-humans as posssible. There are ‘human’ soldiers with six minds in their brains to protect them from the Ooel, cyborgs who are running virtual programs and kept in the dark of their true actions, artificial life forms who only exist to murder sentient life on other worlds and are very aware of this fact. And as resources are limited, almost all of these are regrown in vats and sent out again and again in an effort to destroy the FTL wormholes on some worlds and ‘save’ earth from an invasion that could not be stopped. 

The failure rate of the Handlers who run these missions is staggering in itself, and the volume of suicides may, when the dust settles in some future century, speak to something good in even the worst of this time. Perhaps.) 

Siren: a small company that creates and runs virtual shows and environments; it does nothing else, and is generally considered ‘good’ to work for compared to a lot of other Orgs. 

Virtuosity: The Org that runs the VR system and vitafood systems for earth. This is arguably the most important Og and unique among orgs has open books - at least to other Orgs. who can examine successes, problems, future plans and so forth. 

XenoCorp: One of the few orgs that is still a corporation, XenoCorp made mendals like Xin for very wealthy clients and is generally involved in all human/alien spicing and traits on some level. XenoCorp does have many branches and much deniability if things go wrong, but are also very good at making certain things actually go right. 

Zerg: an Org-in-waiting, Zerg is based around security and exists to test and stress other Orgs for fatal flaws or vulnerabilities, seeking out means of industrial espionage and the like. If an org fails, Zerg replaces/repairs them and then a new version fo Zerg comes into existence to test other orgs. This failsafe is based around being able to hide secrets and not be taken out by other orgs; morality is not a factor. Polis: The taxation/police/medical/fire etc. system that is the closest thing to a government the world has. Polis operates independent of the Orgs and has taken down Orgs in the past, but with all ducks in a row and allies on its side. Generally, the Polis is seen as useful though the police aspect makes many nervous. At least with private security you know how to bribe your way free or problems: with the Polis, that is far less certain.

The chime was heard and they let out a sob, a panicked look gracing their face. Unintentionally letting out a string of "no". Tetsurou's face fell as he stared up at them. " No? I don't- I don't understand? What's wrong? Is it.. Is it my uncle's politics? Your family? Those things aren't important, (y/n)." His voice was soft as he stood and put his arms on their shoulders. "What's important is our love for each other. With this, we can conquer anything."

Tears continued to stream down their face as he talked, the dagger shaking in their hands behind them. "I do love you, Tetsu."

He kissed them softly and hugged them, resting his face in the crook of their neck as the hand with the dagger shakily raised towards his upper back. As they watched, unable to stop their own body, all of their memories of the curse flooded in. Their stepbrothers manipulating them, the accidental incidents, and every other traumatic memory that came with this god forsaken curse. Their hand continued to shake, harder than before as they sobbed, the dagger getting closer.

"I will no longer be obedient..." They mumbled before yelling it out. "YOU WILL NO LONGER BE OBEDIENT." And in one fell swoop, they let go of the dagger right as Tetsu saw it with wide eyes. A loud clatter sounded as it hit the stone. They collapsed in complete relief as Tetsurou continued to stare in disbelief. He took a step back, and then several more.

"I'm free... I did it... I'm finally free..."

"You... You tried to kill me."

Right on que, Kei walked in, followed by Tadashi. "Guards! Take them away."

"No. Wait, no, Tetsu. Tetsu please, I didn't-" They continued to beg as they were picked up and forcefully removed from the Hall of mirrors before being thrown into a dungeon.

"You realize that they'll be sentenced to death immediately, yes?" Kei asked Tetsurou.

"I don't understand... Maybe I should talk to them." He spoke in a quiet voice, going to walk out of the room.

"No!" The blonde cleared his throat. "No, you're not allowed down there."

Tadashi spoke up. "Your Highnesss, Your uncle didn't want to sscare you but the ssecret police informed us of a posssible... uprissing. Thosse... ogress in the foresst, were after you."

"They were obviously part of the scheme," Kei continued. "The ogres never planned to hurt them. They were just toying with your emotions, Tetsu. They wanted to get close to you so they could commit the crime themselves."

"I don't believe it."

"Well, it does seem pretty unbelievable, but it is undeniably the truth. Let me worry about this, yes? Just worry about your coronation tomorrow." Kei pet his shoulder and left.

"Sso, yknow how I've been working with the red guard? Why not call it in now and take over their entire kingdom asss planned?" Tadashi hums.

"We need to get rid of the prince first, Tadashi. Though... I might have an idea for that matter." They looked at each other, a sick sense of glee filled their voices as the laughed.

Shoyo spoke to a group of elves and two giants as they planned to infiltrate the castle, only to hear a familiar voice. Searching, He found Ryuunosuke in a trash can. He managed to let Shoyo know about the trouble (y/n) was in before being interrupted by ogres. Luckily for them, the ogres joined their cause. The group searched the dungeons after taking out the only guard that was on duty.

(Y/n) heard voices. One voice stuck out so much that they decided to push their luck. "Shoyo???"

"(Y/n)!" They found each other and Shoyo helped (y/n) out of their cell. (Y/n) caught everyone up and together they discovered that Kei had poisoned the crown that Tetsurou was set to wear during his coronation.

The coronation began and Kei proudly spoke. "People of Lamia, today is a very special day in the kingdom. Today, you're here to witness the crowning of a king."

Tetsu walked out looking just as miserable as he did the previous night, somehow managing to tune out the piercing screams of his fanclub.

From a door Shoyo could be seen poking his head out, followed by (y/n), and then an ogre. They scouted the guards before looking to the ogre for help.

Back during the ceremony, Kei ordered for the crown to be brought in and a child brought it in on a pillow. As Tetsu was in the process of being crowned, Kei and Tadashi waited in anticipation only for the entire ceremony to be disturbed by none other than (Y/n). They forced the doors open and walked into the room with all of elves, giants, and ogres backing them up.

"DROP THE CROWN."

The crowd gasped and turned to stare at the intruder in shock.

Tetsu whispers their name in shock at the same time Kei demanded that they be caught. All hell broke loose. Ogres were bashing in knights's Armor, Giants were swatting away guards, and at some point Tadashi even pushed a button that made the red guards appear. The moment they did, They were given orders to kill the intruders and anyone that got in their way.

Tetsu tossed (Y/n) a sword and swung via rope towards them. "I can't believe I'm saving you after you tried to kill me."

"I didn't try to kill you!" They defended.

A guard appeared and Tetsu immediately stood in front of them, point the sword and demanding they stay out of it. Another guard appeared and both Tetsurou and (Y/n) fought them off side by side.

"What so the dagger that was about to go in my back was an early wedding present?" He asked, still fighting the guard.

"Okay, maybe I did try to kill you. But it wasn't me!" They both flipped the two guards on their backs.

"What?"

"Okay, maybe it was me, but it wasn't my fault!" They ducked as another guard ran at them.

As their fight went on, Kiyoko continuously tried to turn Ryuu back into a human. She failed more than once, but eventually, she did it.

(Y/n) explained their curse and then Kei's plan to murder him.

"...Kei's trying to kill me?"

"Yes, One moment-" They paused to beat the shit out of one of the guards due to pure unadulterated frustration. When they calmed back down they led Tetsu away. "There's one more thing. He killed your father."

"What? That's not....no.... That can't be right."

"No shit it's not true. Who are you going to believe, Tetsu? This lying little fling of yours or the man who raised you?" Kei said with a false softness in his voice. As this happened, a snake could be seen, fully preparing to bite. It wasn't successful, as (Y/n) stomped on it's body the moment they noticed it and kicked them away.

A moment of silence before "He tried to kill Tetsu!" Was cried out and suddenly Tadashi had a mob of very pissy fangirls on his ass.

Tetsurou turned towards Kei with the most unamused look. "Well that answers that question."

"You vile child." Kei hissed at (y/n). "I should've gotten rid of you when I had the chance."

"You almost destroyed the kingdom! You killed my Dad, your own BROTHER! How could you??" Tetsu stared at Kei, expecting answers.

"I wanted something and he was in my way. So I got rid of him," By this point, they had a crowd watching them. "He wasn't fit to wear the crown and neither are you." He seethed before placing the poisoned crown on his head. He immediately regretted the decision as he forced out a single "Fuck." before collapsing.

"You saved my life." Tetsu grinned at them.

"And now we're even." They grinned back at him.

A shout was heard from none other that Tooru himself as he and Tobio ran up. "(Y/n) Stop! I'm commanding you to stop!!"

(Y/n) turned at looked at Tooru, walked over to him and snatched their mother's necklace back. "Wanna bet?"

Tooru had the nerve to look offended.

"Marry me?" Tetsu asked them for the second time.

"That, I can do." They smiled and kissed him softly.

The Trial

This is the companion piece to “The Catalyst”, which takes places in my Place Swap au. It takes pace during Icebound Land.

King Halt strood through the doors to his throne room broodingly. He was not looking forward to this meeting, though, to be fair, he didn’t forward to most of his meetings. This meeting in particular was an agonizing one for Halt and for everyone involved. Last night, Duncan, one of his oldest friends, was seen publicly insulting the crown and was arrested in a tavern. Halt could forgive Duncan in an instant for the words spoken, words were nothing without actions and Halt knew that Duncan was nothing but loyal to the crown, but it seemed  like this loyalty was surpassed by love for Cassie, his apprentice. The dilemma was that Duncan had insulted him in a public place with several witnesses. The law demanded a heavy consequence, one Halt was not sure he could order in this stressful time. 

As Halt sat frowning on his oak leaf throne, Queen Pauline came in and laid a comforting hand on his shoulder as she sat down on her throne. It was a trying time for them both and they understood Duncan’s pain as their son, Will, was stuck in Skandia alongside Cassie. Halt relaxed slightly under Pauline’s touch, smiling faintly at her. Pauline was the grounding force for Halt and without her, Halt would have lost control of the throne ages ago. Halt was prone to rash action and keeping to himself, but with Pauline helping him, he was a good and just king. Pauline maneuvered through the court at ease, gathering information and helping form strong policies to help the citizens of Araluen. 

Pauline smiled back, but there were tight lines around her face that Halt was sure were mirrored in his own face. Everyone was stressed and tired, what with the war breaking and the prince missing. Duncan had put them in an impossible place. 

Lord Crowley came in and gave the couple a sympathetic look. The redhead was Halt’s oldest and closest companion as well as the royal Chamberlain. Crowley was also a close friend of Duncan’s and understood exactly what position Halt and Pauline were in. He did not want to have this meeting any more than they did. However, duty called despite the strain it puts on the heart. 

Crowley cleared his throat, not wanting to interrupt the tender moment between Halt and Pauline. “It’s time.”

In a different universe, Crowley would still be doing paperwork and dealing with rule-breaking rangers, but here he was just the Chamberlain who had a duty to do. 

Halt and Pauline broke away from each other’s eyes and Halt reluctantly, gruffly said “Let’s get this done with.”

Duncan had saved Halt’s life at least three times and the kingdom of Araluen twice over the past two decades and more importantly, been there for Halt when his mother died and he became king. Crowley locked eyes with Halt, nodded, and banged the large ebony staff on the ground thrice. The heavy doors of the throne room swung open and the trial began. 

Crowley had only invited the necessary amount of people needed to be present at the meeting to minimize the shame everyone felt and they all filed in somberly as though this was a funeral, which it very well could be if Halt chose to order it so. Baron Arald was in front of the line and Anthony slipped in behind him, his ranger cloak swishing slightly. Several other noblemen filled in the middle and at the end of the procession were four watchmen surrounding a well built man in ranger green and gray. His blonde hair was mussed up and surrounded his bruised face, compliments of the watchmen from last night. Halt grimaced at the sight of Duncan’s puffy face and despite the situation, blurted out “Is your face alright?” 

Halt immediately winced at his gaff and so did several people in the audience. Pauline, as always, kept a straight face. Duncan looked his concerned friend in the eye and briefly could not hide the deep sadness he felt. He knew he was causing unimaginable pain to Halt and Pauline, but this was the only course of action that would allow him to bring back Cassie and Will, despite what the crown thought. This moment passed and Halt now only saw resolve and fire in Duncan’s green eyes. 

Duncan looked away and responded flatly. “It’s been better,” Almost as an afterthought, he wryly added, “Your Majesty.”

Crowley acted like someone had insulted his sizable nose. “Pay the king the proper respect!” he snapped. This caused whispers to break out amongst the audience, though Baron Arald and Anthony were noticeably silent, and the watchmen started to surround Duncan again. Halt got up off of his throne and yelled into the commotion. “Shut up!” This caused the whispering to stop and for the watchmen to back away from Duncan, the remorse and shame written clearly on their faces. No one wanted this trial to happen. As Halt sat back down with his arms crossed, scowling, Crowley gave a small cough and Pauline nudged Halt hard. He didn’t budge and so Pauline took it upon herself to take charge of the proceedings since someone had to obey royal procedure. 

“Lord Crowley, please proceed by reading the charges” she ordered gracefully. Crowley gave her a look of gratitude and tried to shake of the uncomfortable look on his face. 

“Ahem. Ranger Duncan, a sworn member of the king’s royal forces and carrier of the silver oakleaf, was heard last night insulting the king’s rule, his person, and his birthright,” From the throne, Halt and Pauline could see Anthony shy his head away, like he was trying to conceal a wince and they could hear Arald sigh heavily. Crowley looked at Halt and continued on, directly addressing Halt. 

“In accordance to Araluen law, such words are in direct opposition of the oath of loyalty Duncan swore, which constitutes as treason.” Crowley looked slightly pained as did almost everyone in the room. The law was crystal clear when it came to treason of this magnitude. There were only two options for Halt to choose. And he wanted to choose neither one. 

Duncan let out a chuckle, low and mirthless. "You could add a couple charges of public intoxication if it makes this any easier for you, Crowley. I never was an easy drunk." Crowley flushed red in response and before anyone could say another word, Halt erupted out of his chair. 

"Dang it, Duncan. I know what you're doing! I would've done the same thing if I was in your position, but we need you here," Pauline had never seen Halt this angry. Fire was dancing in his dark eyes and despite his short stature, Halt commanded the room. All eyes were on him. "Do you think we don't want Will and Cassie back? We're doing everything we can!" 

Duncan had enough sense to stay quiet at first, but once Halt had paused in his yelling, he started up scornfully. "You're not doing everything you can. You could be sending me for one! There’s a big difference between how Will would be treated and how Cassie would be treated. Your son is the prince and a valuable hostage after all." Anthony started to rise up out of his chair and the watchmen’s hands tensed around their weapons. It seemed like a fight between Halt and Duncan was imminent. 

"That's enough!" Queen Pauline's voice rang out through the din. It was up to her to stop the rift between two friends from growing wider. Halt glared at Duncan before settling down and Pauline took the floor. Duncan was never one to lose sight of the bigger picture and now it seemed he was willing to throw everything away for his apprentice, a feeling Pauline could understand. But duty called and the situation with Morgarath was getting more and more dangerous each day. Halt and Pauline, the kingdom, needed Duncan to stay, but he had forced their hand. 

“Ranger Duncan, do you deny these charges read to you?” Pauline offered no easy way out, not that Duncan would have taken it at this point. 

“No, your Majesty,” he said, averting his eyes. He could face his oldest and dearest friends, but he couldn’t face Pauline. “I said some pretty terrible things about your husband that I can’t take back.” 

And that was part of the problem, Duncan had said all these things in front of several public witnesses. There was no going back and the worst part was that Pauline knew Duncan was right. Will would be treated well after the Skandians found out his identity, but Cassie wouldn’t get that privilege. 

Crowley broke in. “The defendant has pleaded guilty to the charges against him and if he doesn’t have anything else to say, it is time for the sentencing.” This was a direct warning for Halt and for everyone else in the room. No one came to Duncan’s defense. It was time for Halt to sentence one of his best friends to one of two impossible consequences. His mother warned Halt that being a king was harder than anyone could ever imagine and he knew that this was the type of situation she was talking about. His heart was full of grief and anger, anger for Duncan and the helplessness he felt. 

As Halt refused to say anything for several minutes, Crowley reluctantly had to remind his friend of the policy. “There are two posssible punishments for high treason, banishment or death.” The already low mood in the throne room lowered considerably at that last word. It was a grim reminder of the real consequences of Duncan’s actions. Halt slumped lower in his throne, but Pauline straightened up. She needed everyone to hear these words again.

“Death or banishment, you said, Crowley? Those are indeed the only two options, right?” 

“Yes Queen Pauline, those are the only options in this case.” At this Pauline almost had a smile on her face and took Halt away from the throne by the arm, shielding him away from the rest of the room. They furiously whispered for a minute and then broke apart from each other, Halt giving off the air of utmost satisfaction as he walked back and stood in front of the throne. He turned to Duncan and Duncan was taken aback by the look in his eyes. It was a mixture of relief and sadness.

What is time?

When we went out for dinner in the island of Inhaca we found a group of girls walking the same direction as us going to the church. They joined us until the village to ensure we were walking the right way. This group of 8 ladies were playing around the restaurant we were at and after having dinner we went to talk to them. I asked one of the oldest there how late they had to be at home as it was already night and there were some young girls playing around. That question seemed to be in Chinees for her. She stayed there looking at me trying to figure out what I just asked her. I looked at her arms and no watch was being worn. Neither were the other seven girls and for sure, they had no phone. Then I realised that actually time is a weird concept. They had no hours in a day. Time was being conceived differently… They were going to church just in the moment the sun got down and had to return as quick as possible. Their whole organisation of the day is based so differently than mine. It was a shok for me realising that that question had no sense for a lot of people. Time is something invented that I accepted as natural until then.

The kids and teachers in Mozambique are often late for our class. Sometimes the reason is the chapa, vehicle which is used as public transport, sometimes it’s some issues at home and yesterday it was the weather. We woke up in a very foggy Maputo. When I asked one of the ladies if this was happening often she explained to me that it may be because of the weather. Some kids look at the sky in the morning and if they see that it is grey instead of blue and with a shinny sun, they think that it’s still too early. Most of our students do not wear a watch and if they do, Nicoletta ensured us that the majority is not working but just serving as decoration.

We noticed a huge difference in our students among the three intitutions we are teaching at. Two are the educational centers which are through AVSI related with the MUVA project and the third one is a public school called São Joaquim. The students of the two first institutions are the ones who have more difficulties at school and the ones from São Joaquim are selected as the best of their year. The difference in knowledge and level of motivation is huge. Some are not even able to make a simple division or write two sentences in proper Portuguese. We needed to adjust our teaching approach and come with innovative solutions to make them understand what they construct in our classes. That has been and is still being challenging but we are finding the way helped by our daily experiences. We have cool ‘experiments’ of how to make a battery with lemons and creating an electromagnet with a screw, some wires and current to explain how the electromotor works. This helps a lot to understand how energy is being transferred and transformed in our system.

The difference of this kids is not just appreciable in their knowledge but as well in their motivation. Yesterday we finished the third day of the workshop at São Joaquim and the outcomes where suprising. We ask the young boys and girls to build whatever they want to with the components they have been working with the last two days. In the past classes they just did a car again and painted it in a cool way. Yesterday we had helicopters, eolic platforms with lightning areas, trains of love, trucks with loads, ventilators and also cars with nice designs. This is wat we like to see. This is why we are doing it. At the end of the class, all them had prepared a song for us and they loudly sang it for us. It was lovely. This really reached me.

I am enjoying very much our trips to work and to home with the chapa. Yesterday we had no TV but the driver was working alone and installed a system of buttons to tell him when you arrived at your destination and want to get out of the vehicle. Normally there are two workers at the chapas: the driver and the one who opens the door and receives the money. Our driver from yesterday had not just installed these buttons system to reduce the need of employees but he gave you alsp the posssiblity to pay through an app! I liked to see this because it’s the way businesses are able to work when you innovate in it and think on the benefits. Here in Mozambique we often see supermarkets, restaurants and shops which are overloaded of employees which aren’t doing anything.

We, on the other hand, are pretty busy with this project! Giving classes, preparing them, fixing broken parts of the toolkit, thinking and developing these experiments, evaluating among ourselves and with AVSI, preparing and the needed information for the next iteration, etc. Today Joana and I will go to the technical university to find out which scholarships posibilities Mozambican students have and try to make some contacts already to find founding for eventual students which may need that.
