one thing worth noting in the conversation about whether or not college students have "become stupid" is that the attitude of the general public toward academic study has largely shifted in the past few decades away from education as a moral betterment (and also, implicitly, a status symbol), toward totally embracing the idea that education is the Thing that gets you Jobs. which of course is pushed by policymakers and academic institutions, because how else do you sell academic funding in a capitalistic society? but has created an ethos about education as something you have to drag your feet through in order to get your degree, which makes students feel more inclined to use LLM like chatgpt to complete their work because they fundamentally aren't connecting with the material.

I do think some of the handwringing I've seen about "hate" is funny because from what I can tell, even on twitter people are being surprisingly civil. The cast hasn't even had to make a big announcement clarifying a situation because everyone misinterpreted something and worked themselves into a furor. It took less than 12 hours after the c2 finale before Matt and Liam were like, "Uh, what do you mean, we literally said on stream Caleb and Essek get together." But there's also been a significant shift online since then to the point where anything short of "the precious baby blorbos were treated so niceys :3" is considered vicious hate, for some reason*, so I can't say I'm really surprised.

Am very eyeroll emoji about my pediatric and adolescent psych records but it wasn't like. Inaccurate to diagnose 12-year-old me with agoraphobia and panic disorder. I wouldn't use that language or those heuristic models per se but they do more or less describe the Persistent Problems I'm working with. When I try to be present in my life / a person in the world I get very scared, and when I act over-against the fear my "bodymind", as the somatic school would say, goes "fuck you" and slams me with a catastrophic cascade response. The way out is through, i.e., a combination of habituation and Drugs. But it really cannot be done without Drugs. Sometimes you just have to drop an anvil on your central nervous system

i think possibly the photos from my friend of her house still standing (!!!) surrounded by other homes fully burnt down (!!!!!) just chimneys standing (!!!!!!!!) might encourage me to take some warnings more seriously and actually do the fire/earthquake preparedness things one is Supposed To Do Here. possibly. yet to be seen.
