legitimately i think men underestimate how boring misogyny is in media. like yes it can be gross or uncomfortable or upsetting or whatever else but for the most part it’s just boring. like we know this stuff. it’s not sooo controversial and revolutionary and new to the scene and edgy. it’s violent sex and women not being treated as people. like we know. we’re already living in it babes. the fastest way to make a piece of media boring is to make it misogynistic. and this especially applies to fantasy for me, because you’re over here getting immersed in a different world with different types of people and places and societies and then it’s just oh, the author didn’t actually make anything new. they took what they know about the real world some hundred years ago and added magic powers. or this was all just a really long intro to a dnd themed porno. the male characters sacrifice complexity because their motivations are just.. misogyny. which is at its core very simple and unimaginative. rape or violence or degradation or abuse aren’t really all that shocking or complex to see on screen. they’re in loads of movies with varying levels of quality in handling and i’m not particularly upset by them. they’re in some of my favorite movies. this isn’t an issue of sensibilities or fear. it’s just so boring.

there’s a lot of discourse about jen’s speech to bruce about rage and like... her being right about needing to regulate her anger as a woman AND the mcu’s continuous issue of ignoring bruce’s mental illness & childhood abuse being very frustrating can be two ideas that co-exist. because there was nothing wrong about jen’s speech about controlling her anger and dudebros getting bent out of shape over it is literally proving her point lol.
at the same time, bruce isn’t just some privileged dude who can’t control his emotions. his condition comes from years of childhood abuse and undiagnosed DID. it has been really frustrating being a bruce banner fan in the mcu because he’s become such a joke of a character. this is a character whose first appearance had him admitting to committing suicide. and then after 2012 avengers he was just never taken seriously again.
idk, man. bruce is a mentally ill ca survivor. his stories in the comics always emphasis that aspect: that he’s a survivor and perseveres and continues to try to better himself. every time he shows up in the mcu i’m worried if he’s just there to be a meme and not taken seriously.

THIS is the banner i want to see. not hipster, silly, funny banner who just exists to make stupid jokes and then get nerfed when it’s convenient for the writers. bruce is a badass and a tragic character. let him be badass and tragic smdh.

“Cassie needs to cut her hair this, Cassie should cut her hair that.” Boring. Overdone.
You know who should get to cut her hair? Cissie King-Jones. She grew up with an overbearing stagemom who controlled everything from her diet to her training regimen to how she dressed. She never got any chance to experiment with her appearance under her mother, and then she was in private school, which has its own set of rules about self expression.
Headcanon that Cissie tries different styles within the margins of the school rules, but when she graduates, she goes wild. For the first time in her life there is no one dictating what she gets to wear, or what length and color her hair has to be (well, her agent tries, but she doesn’t listen). She tries pixie cuts and undercuts. She even shaves it all once, much to Bart’s delight and her mother’s horror. Every month she’s sporting a new color.

Klinger and Hawkeye are not included because that would be too easy. Klinger is THEE drag queen of the 4077th, and we all know Hawkeye would kill it, so they are the judges.
((btw I would love to hear why you chose who you did! And also if you think of any drag names the characters would come up with 👀))

ANYWAY, please watch Certain Women (streaming on Tubi) and be on the lookout for both Under the Bridge (Hulu miniseries airing on April 17) and Fancy Dance (coming to theaters and AppleTV later this year) if you’re interested in more of Lily Gladstone’s incredible work.

ok so im currently rewatching nimona in the hindi dub (thank you @sir-ballister-boldheart-boldheart for the link! everyone should check out their great posts about it too btw)
and right of off the bat, im kinda obsessed with this line change:
Tumblr media
in the OG, Nimonas quip/joke is "The one armed club is about to get some new members"
but in the Hindi dub its changed to "Agar inmisay kisi ka basu pasand ai toh bata'dayna" (sorry if my hinglish isnt the best i dont do this kinda thing often XO)
(which translates to: "if you find a liking to any of these arms tell me")
which is not only equally as hilarious but also soso cute cause the implication shes ready to chop of any arm he wants as a fucked up kinda karma/compensation or as a replacement is just, so good. violent and in character but also establishes a side of care for him early on which is really cool.

why did i just read a tweet that’s mad about hunter schafer being cast as carrie…. like isn’t hunter a trans woman and isn’t that actually a really good new perspective to bring to carrie which has always been thematically about the horrors of girlhood and transitioning to womanhood? like i don’t understand why that’s seen as … not good? because she’s… *checks notes* not fat and therefore not bullied for being fat? like. i get the desire to cast a fat actress as carrie. but the idea that hunter doesn’t suit the role because she’s a “thin white woman” has to be engagement bait right? i rlly can’t tell with twitter anymore honestly. and i’m open to being wrong. but i think a trans carrie would actually be really cool
