The Tragically Hip - Im Violet Light To round out the trilogy of new Hip represses, here's a record that tidied up the more stadium sound of Music @ Work and planted the Hips 00's sound. This record has a number of really great singles It's a Good Life if You Don't Weaken, Silver Jet, The Darkest One, but is really solidified in its deeper cuts. The final one-two punch of The Dire Wolf and The Dark Canuck at the end of this album is one of my favourite two song run in the Hip catalog. I also love that on this album, as it was established on Music @ Work, there are citations for the lyrics. One of Gord's greatest strengths as a lyricist, especially performing live, is his way of weaving a web of reference especially to literature and music. I'm the liner notes there's also a person thanked that seems a bit out of place. I'm Violet Light is a great record, but is proceeded by a really great run of three records, two of which are being pressed for the first time in October.
