A lazy Friday afternoon, heading into the weekend, seems like the perfect time to share a longtime favourite about a sleepy naptime ... even if it doesn't stay all that sleepy! More than 25 years on, Audrey and Don Wood's "The Napping House" (1984), a traditional cumulative story about a rainy day naptime rudely interrupted, remains a source of endless giggles. Highly recommended for an entertaining storytime laugh! ⚫ ⚫ ⚫ #noodlenutsclassickidlit #thenappinghouse #audreywood #donwood #audreyanddonwood #donandaudreywood #naptime #naptime😴 #naptimeisthebesttime #naps #booksofinstagram #homeeducator #booksthatmatter #homeschoolideas #preschoolideas #childrensliteracy #bestkidsbooks #invitationtoread #readaloudbooks https://www.instagram.com/p/B7tnAjhH5gM/?igshid=zhz7b6olx2tw

Audrey and The Girls ❤💜💙💚💛... 😊 #Repost @typicalmummy (@get_repost) ・・・ This lovely book was a perfect bedtime read for Bean & me tonight. The children are always asking me why I have an obsession with Audrey Hepburn and this is like a mini autobiography especially for kids. It’s part of a series for which the beautiful tagline is “Discover the lives of outstanding people, from designers & artists to scientists. All of them achieved incredible things, yet each began life as a child with a dream.” We have Amelia Earhart, Coco Chanel & Marie Curie to read next...I can’t wait! Has anyone else discovered the “Little People, Big Dreams” series? 📖 📚 📖 📚 📖 📚 📖 📚 #kidsbookstagram #kidlit #lpbd #pequeñaygrande #petitaigran #småmäniskorstoradrommar #småfolkstoredrømmer #depetiteagrande #petiteetgrande #piccoledonnegrandisogni #raisingreaders #kidsbooks #readaloud #invitationtoread #welovebooks #littlebookworm #kidsbookblogger #childrensbookblogger #kidsbookswelove #booksforsmallreaders #childrensliterature #watchthemlearn #mummyblogger #ukparentbloggers #thismamaloves #mumsofinstagram #kidsbedtimestories #audreyhepburn #littlepeoplebigdreams #mariaisabelsanchezvegara #womenmakehistory #dreambig #littlepeoplebigdreamsaudreyhepburn #lincolnchildrensbooks #quartokids

We have been learning all about bees today Through books and imaginative play we have talked about what bees are, what they do and why what they do is so important Edie and I had a lovely time acting out bees collecting pollen from the flowers and doing a waggle dance We acted out a meeting between our Queen bee and her workers We made honey in our honeycomb for the baby bees to eat We are going to be exploring the bee lifecycle and the role of bees on earth as we start our minibeast topic We always learn about minibeasts at this time of year and every year we delve a little deeper and expand our knowledge a little further With this #invitationtoplay I included four books, each suited to my different children and their reading abilities and style of books they enjoy The @quartokids Tales From Nature Bee Book was for Edie, the @usborne_books Why Do We Need Bees for Bee and the other two for Esther and William The Book of Bees is a brilliant book for older children jam packed with information and awesome illustrations Today is #worldbeeday a wonderful celebration of these misunderstood creatures whom we should all do more to protect #worldbeeday2019 #beeday #welovebees #bees #playinmay #welovespringplay #bookishplay #bringbooksalive #bookinspiredplay #invitationtoexplore #invitationtoread #invitationtoreadandplay #invitationtolearn #chatplayread #savetheearth #savethebees @plantoysofficial @lankakade Visit more: http://bit.ly/2WgYsXA

I love a story that encourages kids to try new things while still reassuring them that it's okay to be whoever they are, including "not a people person". In Joe Todd-Stanton's "A Mouse Called Julian" (2019), we encounter ... well, exactly that: a mouse named Julian who prefers to keep to himself. When a hungry fox gets stuck face-first in Julian's burrow, though, things start to get complicated. I'll leave it to you all to read the story, however, and find out its rather unexpected conclusion for yourselves! Full disclosure: my copy of the book was provided for free by Flying Eye Books, in consideration for the Read With River Book Club's Best of 2019 list. The choice to share it with all of you, however, was entirely mine. ⚫ ⚫ ⚫ #noodlenutskidsbooks #kindergartenreadaloud #bibliophile #readingtogether #cuddleupandread #curiosityapproach #doglover #invitationtoread #readtoyourkids #illustratorfeature #teachersfollowteachers #picturebooklove #authorspotlight #librarianreads #montessoriathome #homeschoolbooks https://www.instagram.com/p/B454lnknN8N/?igshid=15f4oqijd51l6

I really find that while there are lots of fantastic new books that I enjoy, it's the old ones that keep me coming back over and over again. When Angus decides that he's tired of the same old things, he decides to check out the wide world for new adventure. But soon enough, familiar things become very appealing indeed. Marjorie Flack's "Angus Lost" (1931), despite being over 80 years old now, still doesn't feel outdated or old-fashioned. Rather, like all of her stories of this darling Scottie, it's a timelessly relatable romp. ⚫ ⚫ ⚫ #noodlenutsclassickidlit #noodlenutskidsbooks #kindergartenreadaloud #bibliophile #readingtogether #cuddleupandread #curiosityapproach #doglover #invitationtoread #readtoyourkids #illustratorfeature #teachersfollowteachers #picturebooklove #authorspotlight #librarianreads #montessoriathome #homeschoolbooks https://www.instagram.com/p/B452nQjH7X0/?igshid=mac6d8trpncx

A lovely thing about picture books is that because they are written to be read by adults to children, they are not limited by things like genre, and can be a fun way to introduce kids to new styles of storytelling. For example, "Apples For Little Fox" (2017) by author-illustrator Ekaterina Trukhan is a wonderfully sweet little mystery story for even the youngest audience. Little ones can flex their inferencing skills by trying alongside the little fox to figure out what has become of the missing apples from his favourite orchard, with clear visual clues, and an ending sure to satisfy. 🍎🍏🍎 Over at @noodlenuts_classics I'm exploring inferencing this week with the Read With River Book Club and the hashtag #FindMeStoriesWith_inference. Some combinations are just guaranteed winners. Chocolate and peanut butter, popcorn and butter, cheese and crackers... And when I saw Jory John and Bob Shea's names together on the cover of "I Will Chomp You!" (2015), I knew I was in for a treat. A colourful, over-the-top, fourth-wall-breaking treat, that is, of the sort that'll have your kids laughing from start to finish. From the moment you open the book to a toothy dinosaur threatening to chomp you if you don't put it back down again, to the discovery that his motives are perhaps not what you'd expect, "I Will Chomp You!" is read-aloud gold. ⚫ ⚫ ⚫ #noodlenutskidsbooks #bookstagraminthe6ix #iwillchompyou #joryjohn #bobshea #dinosaur #sillybooks #kidshumor #sillystories #storytime #bookrecommendation #childrenbooks #whattoread #picturebook #preschoolisfun #raisingareader #bookrecs #classroomlibrary #creativechildhood #picturebookart #bestofbookworms #firstyearteachers #invitationtoread #getkidsreading #kidsbookslove #dadreading #readinfullcolor #musthavekidsbooks #bookstagramclub #beautifulkidsbooks https://www.instagram.com/p/B3XmksNnSRT/?igshid=1gkgy09zkpaum

It's National Pancake Day in the U.S., and even though I'm Canadian, I'm all in. Who doesn't love pancakes?! And despite the fact that I've noted previously that I'm not usually a fan of wordless picture books, today I'm sharing Tomie dePaola's classic "Pancakes for Breakfast" (1978), a wordless book with a fun twist, which I'm definitely a fan of! 🍴🍴🍴 One thing wordless picture books are wonderful for is teaching kids sequencing--how to put events in order--which is an important early part of reading comprehension and critical analysis. It's also something that autistic kids like me can struggle with. "Pancakes for Breakfast" is a great book for that because it is fairly straightforward, and the pictures do a wonderful job of moving the narrative along. I highly recommend having your little ones "read" this one to you!! Let them tell you what's happening as they follow the pictures. It will not only help their sequencing skills, but give them that crucial reading confidence. ⚫ ⚫ ⚫ #noodlenutsclassickidlit #noodlenutskidsbooks #bookstagraminthe6ix #pancakesforbreakfast #tomiedepaola #tomiedepaolabooks #voyagerbooks #homeschool #teachersofinstagram #readinglist #librariansofinstagram #homeschoolfamily #whattoread #bookcollector #nationalpancakeday #inquirybasedlearning #funwithbooks #preschoolideas #vintagechildrensbooks #vintagepicturebookillustration #vintagepicturebook #literacyskills #literacymatters #makereadingfun #pancakes #makingpancakes #kidsbookreview #wordlesspicturebook #invitationtoread #earlyliteracymatters https://www.instagram.com/p/B24Z5Benrml/?igshid=1tnbashhge9oz
