Last week Apple rolled out iOS 18.4 to the public, an update that added additional emojis, a new recipe section on Apple News, and an improved Control Center with some handy new features. While the update is getting about as much attention for what’s not included (i.e., Apple’s delayed Siri overhaul) as what is, there’s still plenty to be excited about if you have one of the best iPhones. 🌟 New
Starting today, Post+ can no longer be enabled on blogs. In case you missed it: Post+ will be going away in January. You can read more here.
The option to pause (and resume) your queue is now available if you’re using the experimental Queue 2.0 options on web.
The options to shuffle, pause, and resume your queue are now available in the iOS app (version 32.3+)
The flow for Blazing a post on iOS has been redesigned to be easier to use (starting in version 32.3 of the iOS app).
When you receive a push notification about a recommended blog, tapping that notification will now take you directly to that blog instead of a little preview of that blog in your “Following” tab.
It’s that time of the year: Tumblr Year in Review 2023 is up! Head over to @fandom to check it out.
🛠 Fixed
Yesterday, there was an issue that caused it to appear like you automatically followed back any blog that followed you (no auto-follow backs actually happened). The follow back was just a display error, and we’ve cleared that up. If you want to become mutuals with that blog that followed you, you’ll have to go click that “Follow” button yourself.
The aforementioned iOS app update to address frequent crashes has been released.
The little notification that shows for folks using an unsupported browser is no longer obscured by the login/sign up footer on the logged out Explore page.
We fixed an issue on web where sometimes in-blog search results would be displayed as unstyled text.
Also on web, we fixed an issue on the “Your tags” tab that caused the location of the tag filter modal to be affected by scroll position. It now displays correctly (in the center of the screen).
🚧 Ongoing
Nothing to report today.
🌱 Upcoming
We’re working to add a new setting to give you more control over who can mention your blog. Stay tuned!
Experiencing an issue? File a Support Request and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can!
Want to share your feedback about something? Check out our Work in Progress blog and start a discussion with the community.

Jamie Hood’s revelatory memoir Trauma Plot came out last month, but readers of her thrillingly hybrid poetry-as-diary-as-lit-crit debut, How to Be a GoodGirl, published in 2020 and newly available as a Vintage paperback, will already know some of her story. Repeated assaults on her body have forced certain subject matter upon her, but her intellectual exuberance, coupled with her bracing practicality—her embracing or discarding, as needed, the reasons to write about trauma at all—make the reader eager to accompany her. Here’s a short passage from the introduction to Trauma Plot, in which Hood reflects on her attraction to the myth of Philomela, and a poem entry from How to Be a Good Girl.
from Trauma Plot
The material event of Philomela’s rape was not what shattered me. After all, I could have comfortably identified with any number of raped women in the myths of antiquity—Io, Orithyia, Europa, Proserpina, Thetis. Often I’ve dreamed of Daphne as a laurel, and Apollo slipping calloused fingers beneath her bark. In one vision of the story, a self-portrait, the photographer Francesca Woodman stands arms aloft in a dense clearing, her back to the spectator. Her hands and forearms are wrapped in dead tree matter. Her hair is knotted; she’s observable and phantasmic at once. I have been her kind. For years, too, I was Medusa, ugly with the evil thrust on me: stone-eyed, untouchable, a hissing fury. But when I shed those selves, Philomela remained. Philomela and her pulsing little tongue stump; Philomela, stricken but ongoing, raving but righteous; Philomela, whose grief and wrath surface, again and again, above silence. Denied language, she learns the loom, weaving a witness into being, creating a tapestry to transmit her torment in a different design. I became entranced by this ripple in the story, its provocative diagnosis of rape as a formal problemsomething that exceeds or can be clipped by language. Something that may mandate a kaleidoscopic technique of narration. I had a need of my own to reckon with the ways rape resists testimony or explodes the containers of its own telling, without in turn surrendering to the convention that trauma is, as it were, altogether unintelligible. With tongue or without, the story will out.

there is a vitality & immediacy to sontag’s notebooks which i tend to think elude her larger body of work, which is hawk-eyed, imperious
i feel a kinship w the sontag of the journals—w her self-flagellation; her intellectual anxiety; her terror at being, in any real sense, sexually possessed; or out of control
this kinship perches alongside my awed regard of her essays, as if from a distance; a looking at something quite bright—too much so
i am not a list-keeper although i think i should like to be
i imagine sontag calling my work cheap
i imagine sontag calling me cheap
this touches the erotic
i notice in my center part a half dozen stray gray hairs as if in intimacy; i press them against my lips in prayer

New game! Vampire's Kiss, by Dash Casey
New game! "Vampire's Kiss" by Dash Casey is now available on Steam, iOS and Android. It's 33% off until Oct 26 Please reshare this with friends!
Unleash your lust and your thirst in a battle for the soul of London! Will passion lead you back to humanity, or will you embrace the night as a vampire?
Vampire’s Kiss is a 170,000-word interactive erotic vampire novel by Dash Casey. It’s entirely text-based, without graphics or sound effects, and fuelled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.
In life, you were the guardian of a priceless artifact, the Cross of Aguirre. Now you have been murdered and made a vampire; the artifact has been stolen, and you are at the center of a web of bloody conspiracies.
Navigate a perilous web of secrets as you discover the hidden world of London after dark, staging daring heists and bloody battles across the city’s iconic landscape. As a plot centuries in the making unfolds, choose sides in the battle for control of London’s vampires, and embrace the night that has been thrust upon you…or, chase rumors of a way to restore true life to the undead, and hold out hope that you might see the sun once more.
Your heart no longer beats, but your passion still burns. Will you share a slow dance with Marky, the rogueish vampire with dozens of piercings and a poorly hidden heart of gold? Hold each other tenderly, or fall into bed and discover all of the tricks that Marky has learned in more than a century of unlife.
Will you stalk the night alongside Kurt, a stoic vampire hunter, all muscles and chiseled face, who holds the secrets to ancient lore? He's as dominant in the bedroom as he is on the battlefield: choose your own safeword and submit to his powerful strength; or explore his gentler side.
Does the lure of London's mortal aristocracy draw you towards Alex? This fabulously-dressed and surprisingly courageous socialite is thirsty to learn what sex with a vampire is like - bring all of your powers of telepathy and shapeshifting to heighten your pleasure.
Or will you be dominated by the vampire queen Saffron, with her glorious red hair and brilliantly devious schemes? She's ready for anything, from the kinkiest night of whips and fangs to the vulnerability of using no vampiric powers at all in bed.
• Play as male, female, or nonbinary; gay, straight, or bi; or asexual.
• Seduce a passionate socialite; the scheming vampire queen; a cheeky vampire rogue; or a stoic hunter.
• Opt in or out of scenes involving graphic violence and blood.
• Embrace your vampiric destiny, or dream of the sunrise in a quest to transform yourself back to humanity - and bring your lover along with you.
• Solve your own murder, and take vengeance on your killer.
• Delve into your vampiric powers: transform yourself into a vicious monster, cast shapeshifting illusions as a creature of shadow, or unlock the hypnotic mysteries of the mind.
• Keep your secrets and preserve the illusion that you have died, or shock the world by revealing the existence of vampires.
In this endless night, how will you quench your thirst?

Darling Days by iO Tillett Wright
goodreads | storygraph
Tumblr media
Born into the beautiful bedlam of downtown New York in the eighties, iO Tillett Wright came of age at the intersection of punk, poverty, heroin, and art. This was a world of self-invented characters, glamorous superstars, and strung-out sufferers—ground zero of drag and performance art. Still, no personality was more vibrant and formidable than iO's mother's. Rhonna, a showgirl and young widow, was a mercurial, erratic Glamazon and iO's fiercest defender, her only authority in a world with few boundaries and even fewer indicators of normal life. At the center of Darling Days is the remarkable relationship between a fiery kid and her domineering Ma—a bond defined by freedom and control, excess and sacrifice; by heartbreaking deprivation, agonizing rupture, and, ultimately, forgiveness. Darling Days is also a provocative examination of culture and identity, and of the courage and resilience of a child listening closely to her deepest self. When a group of boys refuse to let six-year-old iO play ball, she instantly adopts a new persona, becoming a boy named Ricky—a choice her parents support and celebrate. It is the start of a profound exploration of gender and identity through the tenderest years, and the beginning of a life invented and reinvented at every step.
Mod opinion: I haven't heard of this memoir before and I personally probably won't read it since it doesn't sound like my type of story, it might be interesting for people who know him.

Epic Games has officially pulled the plug on Fortnite for iOS, ending support for the app across all regions—including the EU, where a comeback once seemed possible.
The move comes after Apple terminated Epic’s developer account, blocking any attempt to reintroduce Fortnite to iPhones and iPads. Without updates, support, or access, the game is now completely unavailable on iOS devices.
This is the latest chapter in the years-long standoff between Epic and Apple, centered on app store policies, developer freedom, and platform control. For millions of mobile players, it’s the end of an era—and a major shakeup in the mobile gaming world.

New game! Escape from Death by Tova Näslund
New game! "Escape from Death" by Tova Näslund is now available on Steam, iOS and Android. It's 30% off until October 19. Please reshare this with friends!
Steal Death’s power and break free of his corrupt realm! Hide your heartbeat from the dead as you harness soul magic, navigate political intrigue, determine the fate of the Afterlife—and perhaps even claim its throne yourself.
"Escape from Death" is a 256,000-word interactive horror adventure novel by Tova Näslund. It’s entirely text-based—without graphics or sound effects—and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.
In the material realm, your body hovers between life and death, your heart still beating—but your spirit has somehow been transported to the nightmarish Afterlife. Oppression and injustice pervade this dark realm under Death's absolute control. At the bottom of the social hierarchy are the Penitents: unfortunate souls indebted to Death, twisted by his magic into uncanny animal-human hybrids. Above them are the Elect: those in Death's favor, who enjoy an existence of freedom, entitlement, and luxury.
Not only that, but the Afterlife is beginning to fall into an even greater and more mysterious corruption. Performers have gone missing from the luxurious entertainment center; a sanctuary for both Penitents and the Elect is under attack; and a mysterious sickness has started spreading throughout the land.
This presents you with an even more perilous threat—but also an opportunity. At the heart of the Afterlife is the Clockwork Hall: home to Death's Court and the repository of souls. If you can find your way there amid the chaos, you can launch an attack that will allow you to put an end to Death's tyrannical rule, make your way back to the world of the living, or even take the throne of the Afterlife for your own! • Play as male, female, or nonbinary; gay, straight, or bi. • Romance your melancholy Penitent guide; a revolutionary bird-woman; a warrior trying to escape Death's employ, or an idealistic healer. • Master the magic of Death's realm: get a glimpse through the veil between the worlds of the living and the dead; see the dreams and desires of the souls around you, and capture the memories of the living. • Take your place in an epic conflict: side with the impoverished Penitent or the entitled Elect; or strive to become accepted by both. • Keep to the shadows and evade Death's vengeful gaze, plant spies in Death's court, make political allies to extend your influence, or enact bold conflict to become renowned through the Afterlife • Choose the next ruler of the Afterlife: will you uphold Death's regime, put a new ruler in his place, or seize the throne yourself?
Can you find your way out of Death's darkness?

Dragons, and the influence the Faerûn Pantheon has (or rather, does NOT have) over them. And how it relates to my tav
I've been thinking about how much the gods of dnd actually play a role within bg3, and kinda how having a True Dragon (albeit at first unknowingly) influences the story just a bit because of what he is.
To get started, Dragons have their Own Pantheon, assuming we are not ruling out pre-5e lore entirely. Bahamut and Tiamat are the most well known of course, they are also included in the Faerûn pantheon, so I won't be talking about them too much.
What I'm mostly concerned with are the two defying aspects (Life, Death, and fate) seeing as Withers is very obviously Jergal, and how The Dead Three (along with Vlaakith and Mystra) are all within bg3 in some way.
The Most Influential Dragon god is Asgorath/Io, the originator. He is briefly mentioned by Lae'zel within bg3 in a throwaway line. Known as the Ninefold Drgaon, Asgorath influences the fates of all dragons
There is also Chronepsis, Dragon god of Fate, Death and Judgement. A multi aspected god who may also be known as Null.
Now, to have a Dragon be put into the center of conflict of a story is rare indeed, which is why I like Págos so much. Dragons are often treated as mounts, villains, bosses, or otherwise just out of reach wells of knowledge one party may encounter only to move on with their lives.
It's special in the sense of bg3 because you are dealing with a Lot of Faerŭn gods, but in my canon bc Págos is a dragon none of these gods have Any actual influence over him? Dragons are outside of their jurisdiction unless specifically asked for their help by them. They have no hand to mold their clay, that is for their own gods. This is what makes Págos such an anomaly, because that is essentially what he is in bg3's story...An Anomaly.
Págos is from the ancient past frozen in time and wound up in the present. His fate is guarded by his own gods, leaving the faerûn pantheon to simply watch what is essentially a wild card wander into what could be a world-ending conflict. Withers mentions this, for being a god watching over fate and death, he had no insight into Págos which made dealing with him unsettling at the very least. In my head Elminster also mentions this to Gale as a forewarning about Págos from Mystra, Vlaakith knows this and becomes even angrier not just because of Lae'zel going against her, but because lae'zel is traveling with a companion that makes the entire situation much more dangerous for her, Same with Shar. It is why raphael tried so desperately to get págos into a contract with him. The stakes are higher with a glitch in the system, outside of their control and outside of their influence. Not to say they couldn't hurt him of course, they could they're gods, but its with the knowledge it isn't as simple as smiting someone when a greater power has placed them there, when doing so creates a plethora of problems than it would if págos was simply another mortal. I just think its all very funny. Its also my reasoning why they dont just directly influence him or the game outside of whatever reasoning is already provided.
And also, as a little side note about how ive been having so much fun with him as a character...its kinda like i said before. Dragons in dnd are incredibly powerful, knowledgeable, otherwordly PEOPLE. They are PEOPLE, they are highly intelligent (moreso than the mortal races) and can outlast civilizations...but they are never treated as such, a product of being a game npc. Dragons are regulated to side characterss, npcs, animals, threats, mounts, but never really delving deep into their own personhood. Never the heroes of a story...until now! Thats why I like Págos so much! Because I get to play with How a dragon actually interprets life and emotion differently. I get to delve deeper into lore like this, I get to play with a dragon interacting with others not as this outside influence but as a friend, as their ally. Especially with him being a chromatic dragon its doubly important since chromatics are often just considered evil and are more likely to be treated as animals despite the fact they are just as capable as their metallic counterparts. Anyway I just think its fun! Thanks for coming to my Tav ted talk.
