i mapped out every state that had a "-natural" tag and this is what i learned

methodology

i did the tumblr search for [state]natural and sorted by recent.

i counted by hand how many unique users posted in the tag. this is flawed because tumblr search index sucks ass and also people might have me blocked for whatever reason

if a state ended with "N" i did two searches, ex: michiganatural vs michigannatural.

for states with two-word names i searched by name as one word, second word if it wouldn't be confusing, and state abbreviation (ex: newyorknatural, jerseynatural, wvnatural)

(i would search "jerseynatural" to find new jersey, but i wouldn't search "mexiconatural" to find new mexico. "carolinanatural" would return results for both carolinas, etc.)

this search does not use pejorative tags (ex: i have used massholenatural before. maybe you guys should learn to drive tho.)

median is either 0 or 1

Another day, another nature hike, another billion nature photos. Instagram forced me to pick only ten. You’re welcome. The prize of the day was probably discovering this Tussock Moth caterpillar 🐛 munching a willow tree. And this pond was filled with billions (okay, at least hundreds upon hundreds) of tiny, adorable, identical baby catfish. Why are baby catfish more adorable than other baby fish? I don’t know, but it’s true. Also discovering that ducks are also murder birds when we witnessed one catch and eat a frog. Not pictured because we were all too stunned to have cameras ready. These predatory bugs feed on all manner of small arthropods, which is seen as beneficial in agricultural as their diet consists of small invertebrates often regarded as pests. They are found anywhere prey is in high enough densities.
