Something More

Summary: Bucky Barnes x fe!Reader -> Since you met Bucky, he's always looked at you with...something more. And you never knew why. One day, you finally find out what he means by it.

Disclaimer: mentions of cheating and swearing, revenge on cheating ex. Bucky deals with said cheating ex. Descriptions of naked/slightly naked Bucky though nothing too explicit. Fluff, found family vibes, Sam and Bucky bickering. Use of nicknames (specifically 'doll'). Not Proof Read.

“What are you still doing here?”

Bucky had just passed your lab. As far as he was aware, you should have left work hours ago. You should have been getting ready, listening to whatever playlist you’d compiled with Wanda, picking your outfit with that perfect smile on your face as you looked in your mirror to fix your lipstick.

So why were you still here?

You looked up, looking for him and where his voice had travelled from. Your gaze found him standing back in the doorway. The lights behind him were dimer than they usually would be. After the clocks turned six in the evening, they did that to save on energy – even then, they’d only come on if they sensed someone. Before he’d walked down the corridor, the only lights on had been inside your lab with you.

“Oh, hey.” You turned back to your work. “Just wanted to get some things finished before tomorrow. Hoping Tony might give me half a day.”

Bucky felt himself chuckle as he walked inside. “You do the work of three people. If you asked him, he’d tell you to take a week off.”

You chuckled because you knew it to be true. But you also didn’t like taking too much time away from work. You actually liked your job and the people you worked with. Some more than most.

“But that still doesn’t answer my question. Shouldn’t you be on your date right about now?”

Bucky looked at his watch. 9:20pm.

“Oh, uh,” You tried your best to avoid his gaze as you looked away from him. “Yeah…yeah, probably.”

Bucky studied you. And you could feel him doing so. The way he stood there, clipboard loose in his hand and by his side, his eyes fixed on your body, noticing how your shoulders tensed, how you tried your best to hide away from him despite you both being the only two in the room.

“What happened?”

“Nothing. Everything’s fine.”

Bucky shook his head and pulled up one of your rolling stools until he was sitting down and facing you. “What happened?”

“It doesn’t matter-”

“Yes, it does.”

You forced a smile, still not looking at him but rather at whatever contraption you’d pulled apart only to rebuild again.

“No, it-”

“It does because you never hide anything from me.”

“Mostly because I can’t,” you muttered to yourself but by the soft chuckle from Bucky, he’d heard you.

“What is it? What’s going on? Why are you still here?”

It took you a moment but eventually you put down the motherboard and finally looked at him. “If I tell you, it doesn’t leave this room. I don’t need the questions and I don’t need a plethora of super-humans marching or flying down to defend my honour.”

He didn’t like where the conversation was heading but Bucky reluctantly agreed.

“I’m not on the date, but Matthew is.”

Matthew was your boyfriend of three years. Bucky had met him a handful of times and he seemed nice enough, but there was always something Bucky didn’t like about him. How he talked, how he walked, how he seemingly didn’t realise how lucky he was to have you.

“What are you-”

With your hands folded in your lap, you continued to explain. “The date that I told Wanda about, the one that was meant to be for tonight?”

Bucky nodded.

“Well, what I thought was meant to be a surprise for me was actually…a surprise for my best friend. Ex-best friend,” you corrected yourself. “Matthew didn’t think I would find out, but when I asked him if I should take any days off work soon, he said no. I thought it was just a fluke, but it wasn’t.”

“Y/n-”

“Matthew broke up with me a week later.”

“What?”

You saw the subtle changes in Bucky’s demeanour as you told him. How his gaze and eyes grew darker, how his shoulders became stiff and alert, how his fists clenched on the table.

You took a breath. “Matthew broke up with me three weeks ago, but I’m okay.”

“Okay? Okay? I’ll kill him.”

You shot out of your seat and rushed ahead of him, stopping him in his tracks.

“Bucky Bucky, Bucky, stop. Stop, okay. Look, I’m fine. And I promise, I am okay. Guess finding out that your boyfriend has been sleeping with your supposed best friend for six months kinda softens the aftermath of the break-up.”

“Six months?!”

“Just…sit down? Please?”

It took a little longer than a minute, but eventually he sat back down and you picked up the clipboard that had been dropped to the floor and handed it back to him.

“How can you be okay?”

You smiled, even if it was still a little sad. “Because I’ve dealt with it.”

“How?”

“Poured glitter into their new washing machine, as well as onto all of their clothes,” you admitted. “Stole the plate out of the microwave, took the hand pumps out of the soap, threw out the car wax from his cleaning kit. You know, just small things that will cause them a nuisance for a lifetime.”

Bucky felt himself laugh. “Remind me never to piss you off.”

“Don’t have to,” you smiled. “You know better.”

“Yeah, I do. I’m sorry, Y/n.”

You just shrugged, trying to ignore the sting in your heart. “It’s okay.”

Bucky’s eyes followed you around the table until you sat back down in your seat. “No, it’s not. I’m sorry he didn’t know how good he had it.”

You looked up at him. “Thanks, Buck.”

“I mean it, Y/n. I know you loved him. He didn’t deserve you.”

You felt his words wash over you and settle into your bones. You’d been dealing with the break up on your own. You knew you didn’t have to, but it was easier. Simpler. But hearing him tell you that…it was worth its weight in gold.

You tried your best to place that familiar look in his eyes as he looked at you. It wasn’t pity, or sadness. Well, maybe a little. But there was something else there. Something…more. You’d noticed it before but even then you couldn’t have given it a name. It was just…

Something More.

Like he knew something you didn’t. Like he was trying to tell you something he didn’t have the courage to say out loud.

“Want me to take you home?”

You shook your head, “No, it’s okay. I can-”

But then he gave you that smile that always made your stomach do a little flip. The way his lips curved in the corner on his mouth, a slightly sassy but genuine look in his eyes.

“Come on, I’ll take you home.”

With a grateful smile, you smiled and stood up. On the way out, Bucky helped you remove your lab coat before helping put on your actual one. From there, he waited for you to lock up before you finally reached his car and hopped into the passenger seat.

You’d placed your new address into the car’s GPS and explained to Bucky why you had a new one.

“Even if she hadn’t moved in, I wouldn’t have wanted to stay there on my own. Knowing everything they’d done together?” You shook your head. “I would have moved, anyway.”

Bucky seemed to adjust himself in his seat, one hand on the wheel as the other rested in between himself and you.

“Maybe it’s a good thing you didn’t tell the rest of us.”

You chuckled, already knowing what he was thinking. You knew you’d have to tell them eventually. And you would. Preferably in a place where they couldn’t all suddenly disappear on you or wouldn’t see the masked pain behind your expression which would only lead to more questions.

You’d become friends with the team not long after you’d joined Shield. Tony had studied your work, produced in Shield labs and instantly had given you an offer to work with him on a permanent basis. Before you could finish spending the day thinking about it, you had orders from Hill telling you, you were to become the new resident Lab Tech at the Compound.

You’d worked along-side Tony and the rest of his science team, fixed equipment for the team and eventually found a friendship with them all individually.

Wanda had been the first one; she’d been looking for someone to talk to since Clint was out for the day for Training new recruits. The next had been Tony and Natasha and very soon after had been Clint, Bruce and finally Steve.

Steve had been away on back-to-back missions which resulted in him being one of the last. Within a week of him returning, you’d met everyone else since Tony had decided to throw a party.

You had asked why, but Pepper had just told you that to Tony it was “just because” but she’d worked on a mission plan. Charity Gala. She’s planned the whole thing with Peter’s Aunt.

It was at that gala that Bucky had first met your boyfriend. At the time, you’d both only been dating eight months.

“Did you buy a renovation?”

You dug into your bag for your keys but nodded. “Yeah. It’s kinda been a nice distraction.”

“Do you know what you’re doing?”

You looked at him, a little offended. “I’m an engineer.”

“I know.” Bucky was still taking in the property. “I’ve met you. Are you sure you know what you’re doing?”

Bucky had seen you build some of the most complicated tech in the world. A handful of times, even Shuri had been shocked and impressed. But he’d also seen you try and build a bookshelf from Ikea on your own.

“I’ll be fine.”

“I’ve got some weekends free.” Bucky told you. “I’ll help you.”

“You don’t have to-”

“I want to.”

You were taken slightly aback as you saw the smile on his face. But you smiled back anyway. He’d always had that effect on you.

“Okay.”

The following six weekends were filled with stripping old paint, pulling out and replacing rotten floors and beams, plastering walls and securing the foundations. The building had been with the bank for almost thirty years. Nobody had ever wanted to buy it.

You’d guessed it had been built in the forties, or thereabouts. A covered porch had been added on to equal the starting point of the front steps, the shutters on the front windows had either been missing or hanging on by a rotten nail so they were soon replaced. There were three matching windows set at equal distance from each other upstairs. One in the middle and one on either side of it – all facing the front of the home. The garden was overgrown to the point where wildflowers had over run themselves and probably created a new breed.

The back was much in the same way; a covered porch, windows, shutters, and a larger back garden perfect for an allotment and space for kids or dogs to run around.

Eventually, those six weeks turned into six months.

You did what you could within the week and Bucky helped with the rest at the weekends. When Sam found out Bucky was helping, he pitched in, too. Though, he was more helpful when placed away from Bucky and at the other side of the house. That had been something you’d learned quickly. They worked well together but the amount of hours they spent arguing about how to paint…

It was safe to say you’d taped out their own spaces in the house and they were not allowed to cross the tape unless they needed a bathroom break or a snack.

Wanda had been more than helpful on the days where they’d both decided to sneak past the tape and judge each other's work.

“Hey, hey, hey, would you- Wanda, put me down.”

“Stay in your tape.”

After the first three months, you were finally able to go out and buy new furniture and return the rented ones.

“Left a bit, left a bit.”

“We need to go right.”

“No, we need to go left.”

Wanda leaned over to you. “How long have they been like this?”

“Two hours. I have tried.”

You sighed and crossed your arms, watching as Sam and Bucky tried to take your new sofa inside.

“Right, right. Now go up.”

“Up?”

“Yes, up?”

“What are you gonna do? Make it fly?”

Sam just started at Bucky.

“Oh, for the love of-”

As you threw your arms into the air, Wanda laughed and started walking towards them. Eventually they dropped the furniture and she moved it herself. It fit through your door simply – just as you had expected before the double comedy act decided to take charge.

Finally, after six long months of stripping, plastering, painting, repainting, rearranging, building, and everything in between, you were finally done.

You and Bucky lay on the floor together, staring at the ceiling, your beers sweating with condensation onto the placemats.

“Thank you for helping me.”

“Don’t mention it.”

“As much as I love my new kitchen, I think I’m just gonna order in. What do you want?”

“Where are you getting it from?”

After twenty minutes, you and Bucky had decided on a place and ordered two pizzas with a side of fries. “Half an hour. Right.” You stood from the floor. “I’m going for a shower. You can hop in after me.”

Bucky was glad your back was turned from him since he could feel the heat spread across him.

“Why?”

“Because you stink.”

You heard him laugh. Since day one, you’d never held back from telling him what you thought. It was one of the things he loved about you.

Upstairs, you turned the shower and stepped inside only to watch the dust and paint flakes fall down with the water and into the drain. Twenty minutes later, your hair was washed for the third time that week – white paint from your skirting boards following the suds of the shampoo.

And then Bucky walked up the stairs.

As he reached the top of the staircase and turned his head down the hall, he called out your name.

“Shower’s free! Just getting dressed!”

“Hey, uh, I-I left you something downstairs. Feel free to open it!”

“Really? Okay.”

Bucky smiled before walking into your bathroom and closing the door but leaving it cracked open slightly. The steam was still leaving the room and he couldn’t open the window just yet.

However, what he didn’t notice as he carefully got undressed was you walking down the hall. Fresh in your pajamas which consisted of an old t-shirt and shorts, you towel dried your hair except in the defogging mirror in your bathroom, you caught a glimpse of Bucky.

Naked Bucky.

His back was turned to the mirror, his muscles lightly flexing as he moved to draw back the shower curtain and step into the shower. You tried to ignore the way your heart fluttered in your chest or how your legs unconsciously clamped together as you looked at him.

But as the curtain was drawn back, hiding him from sight, you took in a small breath before hurrying down the hallway, down the stairs and into the living room.

You were thankful Bucky was in the shower at that moment in fear of him seeing and knowing what the embarrassed and heated look on your face meant.

The image you’d just witnessed, it was safe to say, was burning into your mind.

It was the knock on your front door which startled you out from your daydream about Bucky and the way he-

“Hey, two pep- Matthew.”

What should have been the pizza guy with your pizzas was your ex.

“What the fuck?”

“Please, please just hear me out,” he begged. “I am so sorry for what I did. I shouldn’t have slept with your best friend but I thought that was what I wanted. But-”

“Goodbye.”

“Wait! Please!”

His hand landed on the door. “Please. I-I thought that was what I wanted but these months apart have made me realise something.”

“Look, I don’t know how you found me but please leave.”

“I’m still in love with you, Y/n. I always was. And I’m ready for more, if that’s what you want.”

Down the hall, you heard your name being called. But Matthew didn’t.

“I should never have cheated on you, but I promise I never will again. It was good, right? You loved me? I loved you.”

“Please leave.”

“I will spend everyday making it up to you because I realised, I am worthy of you. Please, just give us a chance. I promise-”

In the space of about three seconds, you saw Matthew’s face change from begging to terrified and shocked at the same time before the door you were holding onto tightly opened wider from behind you.

Then you found yourself met with a freshly showered, completely naked save for the towel wrapped around his waist, Bucky. You felt the heat spread across your entire body as you tried your best to not make it obvious how you were trying to remember the moment for a lifetime.

The definition of his muscles, the way his arm flexed as it remained on his hip, the metal arm behind you, holding the door securely. The way the beads of water dripped down his neck and tracked down his body and into the top of the towel. The way his eyes burned with a kind of darkness you’d only ever seen in him when he was ready to attack, but somehow still remained soft when they fell on you.

“Holy-”

“What are you doing here?”

“I-I-I came to get Y/n back.”

“Oh, really?”

You felt yourself smile up at Bucky, for more than just the reason he was making your ex crap his pants.

“Y-Yes. I’m worthy of her.”

“You’re not worthy of shit.”

Matthew tried his best to ignore Bucky as he turned back to you. “Please. Y/n. I’m ready. Just come home with me.”

“I have a home. A new home. Very, very far away from you.”

“How did you even find this place?” Bucky asked.

Matthew had to look at him and eventually spat out that your ex-best friend had seen your car turn down the avenue a few weeks back when she was heading to work. So, he looked out for it and hoped for the best.

It was in a sudden motion Bucky’s right arm reached out and held Matthew up by the scruff of his collar. “You’re gonna forget you ever learned this address and leave Y/n alone. Do I have to repeat myself, or are we clear?”

A clearing cough came from somewhere behind Matthew.

The pizza guy.

“H-hi? S-Sorry about the wait. They’re working on the road at the top of the street so-so I-I had to double back.Two pepperoni?”

You nodded and the guy told you the price that had been exchanged over the phone.

“Thanks.”

“I hope you resolve…whatever this is. Bye.”

Hopping back on his pizza scooter, he headed towards his next address.

Matthew finally looked back at Bucky who’s stare hadn’t left him since he picked him up.

“I don’t like repeating myself, Matthew.”

“But she still loves me.”

“No, she doesn’t.”

That much had been made clear to Bucky over the last six months. He watched you put whatever anger and sadness you’d bottled up and put away into how you’d pulled out rotting beams and how you stabbed and yanked dead weeds from the ground with all your might.

He also saw it in your quiet moments after that. How you built yourself a home without any reminiscence of Matthew or your ex-best friend, how you found freedom and love in what was around you and how you let yourself date again. The dates didn’t last too long but they always ended mutually – not one sided.

“She does.”

You practically rolled your head with your eyes. “I really don’t.”

Bucky just smirked.

“B-but what about our life together?”

“The one you torched when you fucked my friend? Yeah,” you heard yourself laugh. “That will never exist.”

As you went to walk away, leaving Bucky to deal with Matthew, he called out.

“You can’t seriously be fucking him?”

Turning on your heel, you looked at both of them. Bucky seemingly didn’t react. Until a sliver of unrecognisable courage came pouring forward.

“And what if I am?”

Bucky reacted to that. Not that Matthew noticed.

“Not that it’s any business of yours,” you added.

“But-”

“Goodbye, Matthew.”

As you walked into the kitchen and laid out the pizzas, it was a few minutes before you heard a cry from Matthew, followed by a crash of plywood from the skip that was ready to be collected the next day.

Finally, the door closed and Bucky walked back into the kitchen, towel still around his waist.

Walking out from your laundry room, you took the last mental image of a practically naked Bucky, standing in your home, looking sun-kissed and all kinds of handsome.

“You left some clothes here the last time you stayed over.” Standing in front of him, you handed him his clothes.

“Thanks.”

Taking them from you, Bucky smirked as he caught your gaze scanning his entire body.

“How are you feeling?”

Your gaze flicked back to his, acting as if you hadn’t just been checking him out, but the heat on your face gave you away.

“Good.” You smiled. “Actually, really good. Kinda shocked me when it was him and not the pizza guy- thank you, by the way. For dealing with him. I’m sure there’s some speech I should give you about threats of violence but it was nice to see him scared after everything he did.”

“Clearly he didn’t get a new washing machine.” Bucky held up his hand, small flecks of glitter on the palm. You laughed.

“You can’t escape it.”

Bucky chuckled, too. “Guess you can’t.”

It was in the silence that followed, your hand holding onto his from when you moved it to see the glitter, that you saw that look in his eyes again. That something more look. He’d looked at you like that since the beginning.

For a while you thought that was just how he looked at people. But you saw the way he looked at Steve and Sam and Natasha and Wanda. You saw the way he looked at strangers on the street as they walked past him, you saw the way he looked at kids when they walked up to him and asked for his autograph, you saw the way he looked at reporters when they asked about the 40s or asked a question he didn’t like.

You saw the way he looked at everyone else.

And then there was the way he looked at you.

Something more.

You felt yourself step forward a little as he dropped his hand and held onto yours. It was a subtle difference. The way he looked at you, the way he held you, the way he spoke to you.

It was his turn to step closer.

Carefully placing his clothes down on the kitchen island beside you both, his other hand reached out for you, brushing the hair from your eyes.

And for a rare moment, you shocked him. Usually, he knew everything with you. It was rare you had to actually tell him something. He spent that long looking at you, it was almost as if his gaze could stare directly into your soul and know what you needed.

But this.

This he didn’t see coming.

No matter how long he’d hoped for it.

You kissed him.

And for a moment he was still, feeling your lips against his. Then it was like he was brought back to life. Feeling your hand in his, he squeezed your hand and you squeezed back. Finally, he kissed you back. His hands came to hold your face as he stepped into you, his kiss matching yours.

In a few turns, your back was against the counter of your kitchen island, your hands sending goosebumps throughout him as they trailed down his chest, sides and held him closer by his neck and back.

It wasn’t long before he lifted you onto the counter and your legs spread open for him to step closer. Slowly, the kisses peppered away until you were both left gasping for breath, feeling his forehead against yours.

“Shit.” Bucky eventually breathed, a small laugh escaping him. And you giggled, holding him closer.

“You better get dressed before you give my new neighbours an exclusive.”

Bucky looked behind him, realising you were both in a semi-clear view of the blind-less windows. They were getting delivered and installed on Monday. For now, you just had curtains and the panels on the windows.

Then he looked down. The towel was slowly coming loose from his hips. Then he swore for a different reason.

“You might have to give me a minute.”

It took you a second to realise what he was talking and blushing about. Then you tried to hide your laugh. “Either you put on some shorts or you give my neighbours an original welcome to the neighbourhood.”

Bucky gave you a look before looking around. Finally, grabbing his clothes, he surprised you with a quick kiss to your lips which made you smile and distracted you enough to let him go. Behind your kitchen island, he slipped on his shorts before removing the towel.

“Thought I might get a show.”

Bucky gave you another look. “I’d rather save that for when it’s just you and me, doll.”

You hummed, your arms coming back to his shoulders. “Fair enough.”

A shorter silence came over you both as Bucky looked at you again.

“What? What is it?”

You just kept looking.

“You’re looking at me like I’ve got two heads.”

“You always look at me like that.”

“Like you’ve got two heads?”

You shook your head. “No. Like I’m…something more. I’ve noticed it for a while but I don’t know…why do you look at me like that?”

Bucky just smiled, already knowing what you were talking about. “Because you are something more, doll. You’re more than something more to me.”

You searched his face for what felt like hours, trying to decipher his cryptic message until it finally clicked with you. His message hadn’t been cryptic at all. It had been staring at you, quite literally, for years.

Bucky watched as the expressions changed on your face; trying to find his meaning, wondering if you’d found the right one, convincing yourself it wasn’t possible, coming back to your original conclusion, accepting it though not fully, hoping it was true, not wanting to embarrass yourself if you were wrong, being certain you were right, and then not, until finally you’d found the courage to ask him if you were.

And he just smiled. Freely, and without hesitation, he answered.

“I’m in love with you, Y/n. That’s why you’re more than something more to me.”

“Why didn’t you say anything?”

“You already had someone.” Bucky said, a little defeat in his voice.

“Had being the key word.”

He smiled and looked back at you. “I didn’t want to rush things. We…we both needed time.”

Unconsciously, your body moved closer to his touch as his hand traced down your arm before he held onto your hand. Fingers danced around each other before he finally pulled your hand close to his lips and kissed your knuckles, then your palm, and finally your inner wrist.

Finally, your head touched his. Eyes closed, breaths taking in and let out in sync.

“I am in love with you, Y/n. I have been for a long time and I don’t wanna rush this.”

You leaned up and looked at him. “Then we won’t. Like you said, we both needed time. And, Bucky?”

He looked at you, again.

“You’re more than something more to me, too.”

Then he smiled, that genuine if slightly sassy grin. “I know, doll.”

Professor Layton spoilers are illegal

Great! Now I have your attention. It wasn't a lie though.

TL;DR: Level-5 legal document says they will take down videos that show just the cutscenes of the games and videos edited with the purpose of listening to the games' music, among other legal measures.

It links to something called "guideline". I thought "Hey, finally, a rundown of all the games so new people know when to watch ED and..." It wasn't that. At all.

It is a legal document detailing what images and videos of the Layton series can be posted online without risking Level-5 breathing on our necks. Anyone else feeling like L-5 got a lawyer recently?

To be fair, it is extremely unlikely that they will come check Tumblr of all places for copyright infringement content but Im assuming that you all have lives outside of Tumblr, like in YouTube, Twitch, Twitter, Instagram or TikTok, and those places they will check.

So, here is what I understood from the rules:

Rule 0: These all apply to CV, DB/PB, UF/LF, LS/SC, MM, AL, LBMR, LMJ and PLvsPW:AA; all versions, including the trilogy on mobile and LMJ for switch and MM+. It does not apply to NWOS, which will have different rules explained later.

Rule 1: You can totally upload gameplay and still images from gameplay to social media, but if it's not directly captured from the console using console software they ask* that it has running commentary over, or opinions (basically something that makes it clear you're a fan and it's not an official video).

*This "ask" sounds like "we're not going to legally persecute you but please do us a solid".

Rule 2: Please put spoilers warnings before videos.

Rule 2.5: Don't post videos of the credits songs nor the first voice acting of LMJ. (The anime voice acting is fine).

Rule 3: It is prohibited to post videos that are just the animation scenes or videos and images that are just puzzles and solutions. If it's in gameplay it's fine, but the editing scenes together is not allowed.

Rule 4: Don't post videos or images to pages that you have to pay to enter. However youtube monetizing and similars are allowed.

Rule 6: Third party rights are your problem.

Rule 7: Don't post anything that may make people think you are part of Level-5.

Forbidden things:

Anything that is ilegal

Anything that violates third party rights

Anything discriminatory

Anything that harms the image of L-5

Anything with cheats/glitches

Using the videos or still images to sell stuff (commercial purposes)

Editing movie scenes, audio, puzzles, or music from this series for the primary purpose of listening to them!!!

Using the images/videos for religious/political stuff.

And the kicker:

We may take measures such as deleting or suspending the distribution of videos, still images, etc. from this series that we determine to be in violation of these guidelines.

So yeah. Take care my friends! Enjoy the cutscenes and music compilations while they last and maybe don't look into Youtube downloaders.

List of Tokyo Debunker Fandom Tags & Yume/MC Ships Guides to Help You Navigate Twitter

Since the fandom is growing, I feel like it'd be handy to have a list like this. Please note that some of the tags below don't actually exist yet! I just compiled it using my knowledge from previous fandoms.

#東ディバ絵札 (toudiba efuda) - General fanart tag. It's usually frowned upon to upload shippy art on the main tag (no matter what kind. Yes, yume included) so please be careful!

#tkdb夢 (tkdb yume) / #東ディバ夢 (toudiba yume) - General yume tag. Scopes including both Character x default MC and OC x Canon.

#tkdbプラス (tkdb plus) - Often used interchangeably with #tkdb夢. Yume works posted with this tag have the general "sweet romance" feel.

#病みのtkdbプラス (yami no tkdb plus) - For yume works where the canon character is depicted as a yandere / harboring some kind of twisted love for the yume MC. Sometimes used together with #tkdbマイナス tag if the scenario fits.

#tkdbマイナス (tkdb minus) - For yume works that deal with more niche, darker themes generally unsuitable with the positive vibes of plus yume works. Themes vary including but not limited to: forever one-sided feelings, angst, character death, break up, domestic violence, cheating, bad / merry bad endings, gore, etc. Basically if you see works tagged as this, that'd be your Dead Dove: Do Not Eat warning.

#夜のtkdbプラス (yoru no tkdb plus) - General R-18 yume works.

特待生ちゃん (tokutaisei-chan) - Honor Student / The MC. Since Tokyo Debunker MC doesn't have a default name, this is usually how the fans refer to her when talking about her. The canon MC, if you will.

創作特待生 (sousaku tokutaisei) - Original rendition of the Honor Student. Visual design, personality, gender, and backstory may be different to the canon MC.

創作寮生 (sousaku ryousei) - Original (Darkwick) Student that's completely separate from the Honor Student. This term isn't exclusive to Tokyo Debunker so if you only put "創作寮生" on the search bar you'll get OCs from other franchises too (Twisted Wonderland & Harry Potter, to name a few).

Some character x canon MC ship names

冠特 (kamutoku) - Jin x Honor Student

伯特 (hatoku / hakutoku) - Haku x Honor Student

翔特 (shoutoku) - Sho x Honor Student

Those three are currently the only ones popular enough to have people using a dedicated ship names when making works about them. If you want to see the other characters x canon MC ship works, you'll have better luck searching "#tkdb夢 / #tkdbプラス + (character's name)" instead.

As for canon x canon character ships, usually a fandom would create specific 腐 tag for it (like #ツイ腐テ for twst) but since the fandom is still pretty small, I don't think anyone has came up with a proper 腐 tag for Tokyo Debunker. I could've just missed it tho, since I only follow people who post yume and general non-shippy works so feel free to let me know!

For now, you can try your luck by combining the first kanji of two characters' given name. Keep in mind that Japanese fandom is usually much more strict about ship naming tho. AB ≠ BA!

i watched joeys empires a while ago and i really think more people should its awesome and criminally underrated

some of my favorite things from his series:

the sheer amount of times he says some variation of "suffer for the sins you have committed" is unreal (heres a 5 minute long compilation. im pretty sure this isnt even all of them)

some other joeyisms: he calls every passive mob miss mama, calls at least one cat "kitty cat girl meow meow" (the rest of them he just calls kitty-girl), and calls ghasts "ghastly girls"

the convolutedness of the tiger blood princes love life (basically he had a betrothed (the lost empire princess), but she switched with another villager princess and the pauper style. the new lost empire princess cheated on him with another random villager and ran away with him. this ended up being okay because the tiger blood prince turned out to be gay and fell in love with his iron golem bodyguard. yes really)

has a cat named after his real life cat (sakura) who hangs out with him while he plays

constantly spawns into crimson forests prior to xornoths appearance, which i think is really funny

speaking of xornoth, the blue corruption thing. ohhh i could go on about this forever. joey finishes his water temple and asks xornoth if hed be willing to do blue corruption to match the color scheme. xornoth just kinda stares at him and then leaves. a couple episodes later, xornoth shows up (on his own, which is notable bc he usually doesnt come to the lost empire unless joey summons him or he needs something) and says he wants to show joey something. and. he put blue corruption around joeys water temple. gah it makes me insane, because he didnt need to do that. he chose to. because joey asked him to. and like, you could make the arguement that it could have been for manipulation, except that joey was so head over heels that hed do anything that xornoth said anyway, so it would be a waste of time and resources. and also. post putting-xornoth-in-the-crystal, joey goes around the lost empire removing all of the corruption, and he leaves the blue corruption. it stays the rest of the series. they make me ill

hes also got a shrine to xornoth in the basement of his enchanting room that nobody knows about except sausage and maybe shelby. its where he puts the crown

his hair is short, and thus unable to be twirled around his fingers while flirting. does this stop him? no. no it does not. he twirls his headphone cord instead

when he dies at the end of his series (from falling off his temple) there is a compilation of him and xornoth frolicking around, holding hands, getting married, and blowing things up together (xornoth places the tnt and joey uses a flint to light it. #couple goals)

this is getting long but i need to share that in season 2 pirate joe can telepathically communicate with pigs. this is extremely important to the plot. he does this with lizzies council member pig and as hes leaving she asks why it doesnt talk to her like that, so i think we can conclude that this is just a him thing

he is such a loserboy. this is the most important thing. hes got that pathetic swag

I'm putting myself in lockdown to get Chap 5 of WtC finished today so I'm cheating a bit and compiling some snippets here I did for my Make Me Write for my new Buck Whump fic; working title: Echo Mountain-

There's a moment. Before the pain sinks its teeth in and the adrenaline fully hits, where Buck just lies there. In the dirt. His mother always warned him he'd die in a ditch somewhere. Buck would really hate to prove her right. The ground in front of him is a blurry smudge, brown and green and grays. Something drips sluggishly into his left eye and for a panicky moment, Buck's not sure he can move a hand to wipe at it. He's pinned again, leg screaming and skin alight, cold dread and bone chilling numbness creeping up from his toes. "Hey, you're okay." Buck chokes at the sound of the voice. Tommy's voice. Soothing and warm and clear somewhere just out of his line of vision. He blinks furiously, trying to turn his head, move his body, anything, to find the source. A wounded animal in a trap, a pathetic mewling sound working its way past his lips. "Hey, hey, shhh," Tommy says again. Slowly, painfully, Buck stretches his arms forward, gets his hands underneath him. The sleeves of his jacket are shredded from the fall, forearms stinging, and Buck finds his eyes caught at the sight of them, threads splayed loose and the flash of sluggish blood peeking out between the torn fabric. "Looks like road rash," Tommy's voice says helpfully. Buck blinks, scrubs at his face and feels the tacky catch and pull of blood under his fingers, catalog of bike falls and skateboard injuries flickering behind his eyes. Maddie holding up a band-aid. "I wasn't on the road," he says slowly, shaking his head and immediately regretting it, feels like his brain's sloshing around in a pickle jar, tastes the salt of the brine at the back of his throat at the movement. "Yeah, that's probably half the problem, huh," Tommy says, not unkindly. Buck wishes he could see him but it's like he's moving, shifting just out of Buck's reach every time he tries to catch him. It's making him dizzy.

Everything I've Learned About Querying from Talking to Agents (And Traditionally Published Authors)

Disclaimer: I'm UK based, as was everyone I spoke to. I didn't include any country specific advice, just what I think is applicable regardless of where you live, put it might be useful to know this is from a UK lens.

As part of my course I was able to go to a lot of talks with literary agents (a mixture of literary, genre and nonfiction) and I picked up a lot of useful information - a lot of it not quite so bleak as I feared! - and thought it might be helpful to compile it for anyone looking to query agents in the future, so, here goes, under the readmore:

Querying

Remember that agents want to find and publish new authors. They're not at odds with/out to get aspiring authors. They want to work with us. This is someone you're working with, so don't pick an agent you won't get along with.

Manuscripts should be queried when they are as close to finished you are able to manage. There are a few agents that are open to incomplete manuscripts, yes, but many more that flat-out refuse unfinished work. Manuscripts generally go through about ~15 rounds of edits before landing an agent.

Send query letters in batches - around five or six at a time. There is no limit to how many agents you can contact, but you can't contact more than one agent from the same agency, so make sure you've selected the most suitable one from each.

In most cases you can't submit the same manuscript to the same agent twice - so having it be as finished as possible is all the more vital.

Some of them will take a long time to respond. Some never respond at all. If it's been three months of nothing, it's safe to assume that's a rejection.

One agent said she took on about two new authors a year, which likely isn't true for them all but is probably a reasonable average. For all of them, the amount of queries they get can be in the three digits a week. I can't emphasis enough just how many they get. I take a lot of authors to mean that means it's a 0.001% chance and despair, but that assumes each manuscript has an equal chance, and they don't. Correct spelling and grammar, writing in a genre that appeals to the agent, quality sample chapters and respecting the submission guidelines (more on this later) improve the odds by a significiant amount.

One agent said he rejected about half of his submissions from the first page due to spelling and grammar mistakes and cliches, for perspective.

You'll need to pitch your book. If your book cannot be pitched in three sentences, that's a sign it has too much going on and you'll need to do some pruning.

Please don't panic if you cannot come up with an accurate pitch for your book on the fly - you're not supposed to be able to do that. A pitch takes many edits and drafts just like a manuscript.

Send your first three chapters and a synopsis (this should be a page, or two pages double spaced. It should not include every single plot point though, again, if major things end up not there at all, question if they're necessary for the manuscript).

Three chapters is the standard - as in, if the agent web page doesn't specify how many, that's what to opt for. If they say anything else, for the love of God listen. If there was a single piece of advice that the agents emphasised above all else, it was to just follow each submission requirement to a T.

There needs to be a strong hook in these chapters. If your manuscript is a bit of a slow burn, that's fine, but you can cheat a bit with a 'prologue' that's actually a very hook-y scene from later on.

Read the agent's bio page throughly and make a note of what they like, who they represent, and what they're looking for, and highlight this in the query letter.

Your query letter has to say a little about you. It doesn't have to be really personal information (but say if you're under 40, because that's rare for authors and they like that), and keep it professional but not stiff, they say. If you have any writing credentials, such as awards won or creative writing degrees, include them, as with any real life experiences that pertains to the content of your book. But no one will be rejected on the basis of not having had an interesting enough life.

Apparently one of the biggest mistakes for debut authors tend to be too many filler scenes.

In terms of looking for comparative titles, think about where you want your book to 'sit'. Often literally - go into bookstores and visualise where on the displays you could see it. It's really helpful if you can identify a specific marketing niche. Though you want to choose comparisons that sell well, but going for really obvious choices looks lazy. A TV or film comparison is fine - as long as it genuinely can be compared.

Do not call yourself the next Donna Tartt. Or JK Rowling. They are sick of this.

Don't trust agents who request exclusive submission.

Or any with a fee. Agents take a percentage of your advance/royalties - you never pay them directly.

In terms of trends (crowd booing), there's been a boom in uplifting, optimistic fiction, but more recently dark fiction has been rising in popularity and looks to have its moment. Fantasy and Gothic are both huge right now. Publishers also love what's called upmarket/book club fiction - books that toe the line between genre and literary.

But publishers aren't clairvoyant and writing to trends is a futile effort, so don't let them shape what you want to write. Some writing advice I got that I loved was to not even THINK about marketability until draft three or four.

If any agent requests your full manuscript - this is crucial - email every other agent you're waiting to hear back from and let them know. This will take your manuscript from the slush pile to the top, and you are more likely to get more offers of representation.

The agent that flatters you the most isn't necessarily the best. Be sure to ask them what their plan for the book is, and what publishers they're planning to send it to - you want them to have a precise vision. It might be that their vision misses the mark on what kind of book you wanted to write, and if so, they aren't the right agent for you.

Research like hell! A good place to start is finding out who represents authors you love (the acknowledgements pages are really helpful here). if you can, getting access to The Writer's and Artist's Yearbook is very helpful, as is The Bookseller, the lattr for checking up on specific agents. (I was warned the website search engine is awful, so google "[name] the Bookseller" to see what they've sold. That said, only the huge deals get reported, so it's not indicative of everyone they take on.

I also want to add Juliet Mushen's article on what makes a good query. I owe a lot to it, and I feel like it's a useful template!

Once Agented

Agents send a manuscript to about 18-25 publishers, typically. Most books will end up having more than one publisher interested.

It can be hard to move genres after publishing a debut novel, especially for book two, not only because it means it takes longer for you to establish yourself, but the agent that may be perfect for dealing with manuscripts for book one might not have the skills for book two.

Ask the agency/publisher about their translation rights, their rights to the US market, and film and TV rights. Ask also what time of year the book is going to come out, if being published.

It's less the book agents are interested in than it is you as an author. You will be asked what you're going to write next, so have an answer. Just an answer - you don't need another manuscript ready to go. One author said she flat-out made up a book idea on the spot, and she got away with it - just have an answer. (This is also useful to put on the query letter.)

Caveat that this is, of course, not a foolproof guide to getting a book deal, nor is it in any way unconditional endorsement of how the industry works - I just thought it would be useful to know.

this was literally too hard for my little brain to comprehend so i have instead compiled my list of the top five books ON MY TBR. sorry for cheating. i haven't read a single book this year (aside from uni mandated reading and the fact i read every single day for my job). SO MAKE OF THAT WHAT YOU WILL:

1. one hundred years of solitude - gabriel garcia marquez (i got like 60% of the way through and then put it down for some strange reason but i really need to finish. it's a great book!)

I have been reading all of your deep dives and they are a fascinating read so thank you for all the effort you clearly put into compiling all of that. I appreciate you stick to fact but I’m intrigued as to how, in your view, the timeline of Blake’s divorce played out? There’s been so many competing stories over the years that nothing actually falls neatly into place

Yeah, I decided to lay out the divorce timeline without including too many unverified rumors because there are just so many of them. I can see how random people's stories could be believable, but it's just hard to commit to buying them when I don't know who they are or where they got the info from.

But in laying out the timeline with mostly facts and things that have a source, it helps me to see which unverified rumors make sense and which don't. So I do have a timeline I feel pretty confident about and I'll get into it below the cut.

One of the most trustworthy sources IMO is Lainey Gossip, so I lean towards her blind item after the divorce was announced about how it was "very recently" that Miranda had been "caught cheating with a member of her tour team." Then, I think if I am going to lean towards believing any of the anonymous theories/claims about the timeline, I would go back to the now defunct "nashtruth" account that apparently pointed to January as the beginning of an affair, apparently before Gwen had said anything about January in her Howard Stern interview. I only have this info thirdhand from when Nicole's old blog talked about it here.

Ask: That nashtruth account interests me because they were stating that the affair started in January long before Gwen mentioned January in the Howard Stern interview. It seems like nashtruth is somebody who was in the know. The way that nashtruth suggests that it all went down is that Blake confronted M in the spring and discovered THEN the affair had been ongoing since Jan (not that he got suspicious in Jan that something was up.) This is consistent with him being blindsided, as I've suspected. Nicole's Answer: Yeah, their repeated claim is the affair was from January to May, that Miranda left HIM in May, and that Blake didn’t confront her and thus find out about the affair until July.

Miranda's song "Run" that she wrote at the end of 2015 and released late last year also makes sense to the theory that she was pulling away during that time and "ran." People Magazine also reported that she wanted a trial separation. I think her unhappiness and affair seriously made her considering leaving, but I am not sure I believe she ever really would have pulled the plug. There was so much at stake career-wise. Blake was probably very confused and wanting to work it out to a point, but then when he found out about the affair, it pushed him to file and make things final.

So ultimately, I think this is what I believe the timeline was:

January 2015: I think when Gwen said "his thing began in January" about Blake in her Stern interview, that it was regarding the fact that Miranda's Platinum tour had resumed in January, and Blake later found out that things had ramped up then between her and her tour manager. (The tour had been on a break since September).

February-April 2015: They continue to act like everything is fine and are still spending time together like normal, but things are slowly deteriorating behind the scenes and Blake probably doesn't really know why. People think he looks sad in surprise performances together in March. He is her biggest cheerleader at the Grammys and ACMS even though she 'forgets' to thank him at both, and just posts about him after the fact on social media. They still post about each other and are doing things together publicly and at home.

May 2015: I think throughout May they were on their last gasps - Blake goes to a horse show with her, they go to Key West for their wedding anniversary (but neither posts about it), he talks about her like everything is normal during press for Bayou Super Fest. But their last sighting is near the end of May having dinner in Oklahoma, and it seems like they completely go their separate ways after that. Blake would later confirm that by the end of May is when "Things were starting to get bad with my marriage at that point" (when the flooding was going on and he has the dream that leads to writing "Savior's Shadow").

June 2015: According to People magazine, another reliable source: By June, however, things had started to unravel. A Lambert friend says she wanted time apart “to reflect” on the marriage.

Blake later confirms: "By the time I got to June/July, I mean, the bottom pretty much fell out of my marriage. And there was just, to the point where there was no fixing it."

There are no confirmed sightings of them together this whole month. She does not post for his birthday. I think it's very likely that they had some kind of come-to-Jesus discussions and whatever the official designation was, they were basically separated. Did Blake know about the affair yet in June? I'm not sure. I tend to believe that they did start getting divorce paperwork together this month, but maybe he wasn't yet ready to file and was holding on to the barest of hope.

July 2015: He and Miranda played Greenbrier on Friday, July 3, with no interaction. Miranda was also seen that weekend without her wedding ring for the first time after keeping it on all of June. Gwen later indicates Blake found something out the weekend before he filed (on Monday, July 6). "...he had found out on Saturday about his whole thing."

Ultimately I think that he finally found out about her affair and it pushed him to file very suddenly, as Lainey Gossip indicated.

People magazine also stated: “She wanted to try and make it work, maybe have more of a separation,” the friend says. “But he said, ‘I’m filing.’”

Yet a Shelton source insists he had no choice.

“It came on very quickly,” the source says. “It was very clear that things weren’t going to work out. So he decided to end it."

So in my opinion: Affair begins and/or ramps up in January. Things deteriorate January through May. Miranda pulls away and they are basically separated but not definitely splitting up for good yet. Then Blake finds out about the main affair, he files and ends it "very quickly" as the Lainey Gossip blind and People magazine source state. So it was sudden, but not thoroughly since their problems had been building all year.

Now that ep 7 has been released for all, let's all rage (and cry) together.

I knew we were headed for trouble when Taeha showed up and Jaemin smiled like he smiles for Nami.

Jaemin is so cute when he smiles. Nami really should have wrapped him up and carried him around in his bag. 😭

The text below the "yes" is "are you still busy?". Jaemin making a disappointed pouty face when Nami doesn't return his text shows that he wants to be with Nami. I don't know why he's feeling neglected though, Nami said he had another interview. Did Jaemin expect him to read and return his text during the interview?? Didn't Jaemin get on Nami's case about not having a job? He needs to interview to get a job.

Aside from Taeha being very attractive and flirting like mad, another reason Jaemin may have cheated is because he wants to feel needed. Nami is very self sufficient, both in terms of money and confidence. He doesn't need to rely on Jaemin for anything. On the other hand, Taeha is also struggling to find a job and is looking to Jaemin for help and guidance. Perhaps that makes Jaemin feel important and "useful" as he puts it. It's a stretch, but I really need to find a reason for Jaemin to cheat on a wonderful boyfriend besides bad writing.

I had given high marks to Taeha's flirting before this, but this line was so cringe. How it worked on Jaemin is beyond me.

Jaemin didn't even try to dodge that. He even kissed back. Arghhhh. It's great he still remembers he has a boyfriend. 🙄🙄🙄 Jaemin is using a gender neutral term, so he's saying "I have a lover". If Jaemin had stopped here, I could have still been a bit understanding.

When Taeha said he didn't mind after Jaemin told him he had a lover already, I thought for a brief moment, we would get poly. 🤡 "I'm good at waiting"?? This would be romantic if he wasn't actively trying to steal Jaemin from Nami.

In Jaemin's bed even! 😭 I had a glimmer of hope that Jaemin would wake up and stop when he said no, but he kept going. WTF ARE YOU DOING CHOI JAEMIN?

Honestly, the actors do have chemistry. If Jaemin wasn't cheating on Nami, it would be hot. He is though, and I want to kill him. WTF DUDE.

It makes me a little ill just to look at this gif. There's no going back from this now. Choi Jaemin is a big ol' CHEATER. Nami doesn't deserve this. I had to watch the kiss compilation video right after to calm down and cleanse my eyes.

I have no idea how they're going to fix this in one episode...

I had written a bunch of other rambling thoughts, but the plot relevant part from the uncut pretty much made it all irrelevant.

So it was all a dream. 🙄🙄🙄 Yay I guess? At least Jaemin didn't cheat. This is some super lame writing though. Suk wrote themselves into a corner with their silly "love triangle" and didn't know how to get out. As much of a cop out the "just a dream" trope is, I'm glad Nami wasn't betrayed and hurt. Side note: he looks good in that suit. 😏 And now that I know it was all a dream, I can enjoy Jaemin and Taeha making out. Though that look on Jaemin's face at the end makes me feel a little uneasy. Hopefully the dream made him realize what an asshole he would be if he cheated on a boyfriend who held his hand for an hour while he slept. Nami is the absolute best. 🥹

There is no cheating. 🥳 Spread the word and let the people who dropped the series because of the cheating know! Suk can still stick the landing, though I trust them about as much as I trust K. will right now. 😐

Today's compilation:

CBS-FM Oldies 93: History of Rock Volume 2 1993 Pop / R&B / Doo Wop / Soul / Rock & Roll / Garage Rock / Pop-Rock / Bubblegum Pop

Unfortunately, this is a pretty unremarkable cheat code comp here. There's plenty of great classics on it, but there's nothing that distinguishes it from any other dime-a-dozen 50s and 60s oldies comps. The most intriguing thing about it is that there's so little trace of it on the internet, but that's probably because it was likely only released in the Los Angeles area. LA's KCBS station is now Jack FM, which is a pretty low-rent operation where they seem to just put their sizeable library on shuffle without any on-air DJs, but back in the early 90s, it was solely dedicated to the oldies, just like its New York counterpart, WCBS-FM, still is (although as time advances, that 'oldies' word gets more and more elastic, and older music is continually phased out too). Funnily enough, there was a period in the 2000s when WCBS also changed to the Jack FM format, but people despised it so much that it eventually finished last in the ratings, and after a couple years, it returned back to its oldies format with DJs. That switch to Jack has gone down as one of the biggest blunders in the history of the New York radio business too, as WCBS was and now still is one of the region's most listened-to stations.

Perhaps this album is purely reflective of what you'd hear if you'd tuned into KCBS on some random day in 1993, and was used in order to promote that fact, but it doesn't seem like there's anything that makes this particularly LA-centric. You could call this WCBS-FM Oldies 101.1 and no one would know the difference. And that's something that I've noticed that CBS and the Collectables label that releases their comps do—release the same album in different markets, but use different station logos that align with the respective local CBS affiliate; like so:

Kinda strange that I can't find anything about Volume 1 or any potential subsequent volumes that might've been released from this series thereafter either. There are probably copies laying around in some LA closets or attics somewhere, but no one seems to have cataloged them to the internet yet, at least via a Google search. Kinda indicative of how much work there's still yet to be done in encoding a record of all these things. All we have is this second volume that can be found on AllMusic.

Also weird to label an album like this as the History of Rock and then include a whole bunch of tunes that clearly aren't rock on it🤷. Subtitle your series as something more accurate, please!

All in all, this is a good oldies comp because there's good and classic songs on it, but it's definitely not breaking any molds. Recommended if you have little to no familiarity with the 50s and 60s pop landscape and want some bare-bones education; otherwise this isn't really worth anyone's time and was a waste to press up and sell in the first place.

And if you are actually looking for that authentic LA oldies experience, look no further than the guy who invented the entire concept of the V/A compilation itself, Art LaBoe, who was also a beloved local DJ in LA, and who I've written about plenty of times before too.

So it took me a week to finish season 5 of 9-1-1. I don't understand how this season is sadder than season 4 but it was and now I'm scare to watch season 6.

I love Tori second change to love. I didn't like that episode to much but Tori and Hen is a mother/daugether dinamic i love

I don't care to much about Lucy, it could be cool to see how she's feeling about the Jonah thing, because they where kind of close.

I love Bobby so much, and i loved him this season.

I really don't care about Buck and Taylor thing, like, i watch it, idk.

I really like the first episodes and everything to do with Jeffrey (was that his name?) and Harry, i love that the kid got to shine

An okay season, maybe the worst so far? I don't know i feel like i'm not going back to re watch this season

The best arc, or whatever is call, was Maddie and Chim. I was so sad about Chim not being in my screen (and kind of the reason this season is not that great) but him looking for Maddie, and Maddie getting better, was so cool to watch. I really hope they get together again i love them!!

Please never make Chim to leave again, i need that man, this show needs this man
