Paradox Live Episode 7 Review - Boys On The Rooftop

Before I start the review, I want to thank people who left comments on my review of the previous episode. I really appreciate your time explaining to me about the source material and what part was anime original and what not. I’m glad I’m writing reviews. The engagement and interactions motivate me to keep going. Now, onto the review!

I was told last week that this week’s episode was going to be a strong one. I agree with their statement wholeheartedly. This was quite the episode. It answered the questions I had in the previous episode, but also gave me new questions. It was nice to see the overall plot slowly coming into play here.

Last episode, Shiki told Ryu that the ghost in that building could’ve been the friend that he killed. While Ryu doesn’t believe him (also had some weird split personality moment), Shiki decides to head out to check the building one day. It turns out that he has a past with Nayuta. Shiki grew up a loner, but encountered Nayuta one day and became friends. Their friendship was so cute and sweet to look at! Nayuta had a mysterious part-time job that turned out to being a lab rat; I assume he was being experimented on by Alter Trigger? Anyways, the experiments got to be too much as he developed Phantometal corrosion and decided to jump off the building to not make Kanata worry. Unfortunately, this left Shiki traumatized for good. I finally understand why he’s always apologizing when getting a trap reaction. That is seriously something traumatizing for Shiki.

Now this pegs the question of just who Nayuta is. Why is Nayuta still alive with Kanata but supposedly died when he was with Shiki a few years ago? What’s with the long-haired Nayuta in the post-credit scenes? I made some theories after watching the episode. I think Nayuta survived the fall in the past and that’s why he’s stuck in the lab present day. But then who’s the Nayuta with Kanata in the current time? I’m theorizing that the current Nayuta is an apparition created from Kanata’s phantometal as that was the reason why Kanata had a nightmare about Nayuta dissolving into liquid. Maybe he knew Nayuta had died, so he uses his phantom metal to create a projection? But he can still eat, right? Or was the bowl that ramen guy was eyeing in Episode 5 Nayuta’s? All I can say is that there’s really more to Nayuta than meets the eye. I really want to know the truth.

Is phantometal corrosion the reason why Hajun is visiting a back-alley doctor? Does Hajun have symptoms? Can it be cured? I hope this illness can be explained in a future episode, because I think it makes the plot even more interesting than before. Is the Akira Ishida character the final boss of sorts?

The special ending song with Nayuta and Shiki was wonderful! I really liked it! I think the lyrics summarize their relationship perfectly. Is this a new Paradox Live song or something they had before? The special artwork was really beautiful. I’m making it the thumbnail for this review because that is way too gorgeous to pass up. Also, what I noticed was that the preview for this episode was shrouded in purple and blue last week. This makes sense as Nayuta is in cozmez and Shiki’s in TCW. I do wonder why they titled it “Love”. Are they hinted to be canon? ARE THERE EVEN ANY CANON PAIRS IN THIS STORY?

When my bunch of questions are answered, I get more. I’m getting invested in Paradox Live a lot. I can’t wait for next week as it seems to be BAE vs Akan Yatsura. I hope it’d be a good episode! What are your thoughts on this episode?

firstly; if you do draw bad girl's resurrección, I WOULD LOVE TO SEE IT!! it's such a specific concept of 'characters in UAA being espada/arrancar' but it has UNLIMITED POSSIBILITIES.

I can already visualise a version of Alice Twilight but her weapons are essentially bone and/or wearing skeletal armour.

also more thoughts down below about this silly incoherent au that I'm now taking seriously...

secondly; i know with an au such as this that people would instantly think 'Oh Travis becomes a soul reaper like Ichigo' BUT that's not what i want to do with this AU - it feels a little predictable to do such a thing. It also kind of hogs the spotlight away from other characters that otherwise don't get as much central focus. For that reason I'd probably give the central role to either Shinobu or Kimmy Howell.

On one hand Shinobu's dad is canonically dead/murdered in NMH1 and you can make the case of 'he was killed by an espada or even by the soul society', because he was an ex-espada or ex-soul society member who had dirt on the respective associations (really depends on what route you want to go in). you can have her run into travis, a soul reaper who is tasked to operate in Santa Destory because the rate of spirit energy there has gone up and it's attracting hollows - and so you can have the same old thing of Rukia's powers get transferred to Ichigo'' but the genders are reversed and now Shinobu has to take on the role of being a substitute soul reaper. And Travis is just. panicking on getting back to soul society in time.

As for Kimmy, you can have her belong to a family of well renowned musicians but anytime she plays music at home, school, in a professional setting or even in a musical instrument shop, she starts seeing ghosts. This can sort of explained as 'ghosts find classical music to be soothing especially for ones that haven't made their way to the other side yet.' Maybe during a professional performance at Santa Destroy Stadium a hollow comes rushing in because of the mass gathering of ghosts/souls that haven't passed on to the next realm and it puts so many people in danger that in this specific AU you have maybe both Travis and Shinobu show up - and things just spiral from there.

Have Travis play rukia's role. Have him be the fish out of water. have him be the one to lose his powers in order to help shinobu or kimmy fight any hollow attack. have him tag along as an reluctant mentor figure to shinobu or kimmy. i think that's a genuinely missed opportunity that the NMH series didn't take seriously or not as seriously as I wanted it to, because it does provide genuine development to travis as a character and as a person. he is capable of doing a lot more good than he thinks, its just that his way of doing so is through violence.

I mentioned that I think Sylvia should take up Urahara's role, because on one hand I think they're both similar in a way that they kinda pull the strings a lot for specific events to happen. But a bunch of other characters like Thunder Ryu, Dr. Juvenile or Dr. Naomi could take this role too. This one is kind of a wild card, so any input on this one would be great.

Henry takes Ishida's role obviously but without the brashness of 'HEY LETS SUMMON A BUNCH OF HOLLOWS AND PUT PEOPLE IN DANGER. ' rather, Henry here takes a 'break glass in case of emergency' type fire power. I feel that he has an idea of what's going on at the UAA, but underestimates how wide of a problem it is (i.e. everyone there is an Arrancar/Espada).

That's ALL i have at the moment BUT if anyone has some ideas or thoughts about this AU LET ME KNOW.

Because every winter you would look at the streets, and then, to the skies. Everything tints in white, like the strands of the slightly wavy hair that covers half of his face.

Ryuuken has left the city to become a doctor, but maybe also to scape from his family. From his family, and her. She, who would represent the sun for him, fell in love with another man, leaving in Ryuuken a hole in his chest, a dark void in his heart. You wonder if, perhaps, he has also left her behind like he did with his old life…

Another new years eve approaches, showing all how cruel and unstoppable the pass of the time is.

You open a pristine white envelope, breaking the Quincy star wax stamp with great pleasure. Once again, the Ishida family is hosting a New Years Eve gathering for you all… the Echt Quincy. However, it was weird enough for you to see that the letter of invitation had a special request added right at the end…

“Dear, (Name). The Ishida family begs for your presence, my son Ryuuken is coming back this year”

You jolt from your seat;  “Ryuu is coming back?!” you scream walking towards the foggy window of your room. You take a look at the sky becoming darker outside with frosted stars all above, and smile pleased… yes, Ryuuken is finally coming back…

The next day had been hectic. Searching for the best dress would have been easier if the Quincy rules weren’t so strict, however you ended up getting the sexiest choice allowed; a white, tight, long dress. Almost as long as the hours passing until you are finally set to meet him again.

“I wonder if his hair is still wavy and white… is he still wearing glasses?” you think, while a car sent by the Ishida family takes you to their manor.

As you take the first step outside, and thank the chauffeur, you breathe the cold air of the year’s last day. “Here we go… I hope you still remember me…”

Inside, everything -as always- looks so perfect and sterile. No fancy decorations, but refined and sad elements that reminds you of how strict that family had been all their life.

A beautiful woman, with black hair and dark attire receives your white coat, a coat only pure Quincies wear. “Welcome, Miss (Name). Please, follow me” she says, smiling with sad eyes.

“Thank you so much, Katagiri…” you mumble, knowing too well who she is; the woman that has taken care of Ryuuken since her childhood.

Music plays in the background, wrapping the notes with the soft bustle of the invitees. A soft mumble that turns into silence when you appear in front of them. Many have an amazed expression on their faces, others, lustful looks bathing your body.

Izumi Ishida, Ryuuken’s mother, older than what you could remember, comes to your rescue. She salutes you, so formal as always.

She doesn’t speak about her son immediately, in fact, many of her questions have to do with you and your life.

“(Name)!” the sudden, and well known, sad voice of Ryuuken pulls you away from his mother. His hair is still as snowlike as always. His blue eyes shine like a winter moon and his expression is still the same… Ryuuken never smiles, Ryuuken still has his heart broken.

“Ryuu-chan!! You are back!!!” you, euphorically, react. Running towards him, remembering those days were you two were kids. A tight hug surrounds his cold embrace, melting for perhaps two or three seconds, his icy stare.

Everybody gasps at your reaction. That isn’t proper of Quincies, much lest Eicht ones. But who cares, who cares about their stupid rules?

Ryuuken does. He really cares. And, just as he pushes you away in a subtle way he also grabs you by your wrist. “(Name), stop. Follow me” he commands under his breathe. Though, you think there is no point in trying not to be loud.

You walk fast, trying to follow his steps into the long hall of the manor. You still smile, he is blushed, and his palm becomes sweaty around your hand.

“Ryuu-chan, what is going on?” you ask, giggling. But soon your smile fades as he pushes you against the wall. “(Name), why are you here?” he asks, rather aggressively with shaky voice.

You widen your eyes, why is he treating you this way? You try to let go off his strong grip, but truth is that you wouldn’t like him to ever let you go.  “Ryuken, why are you hurting me?” you ask, calmly with a deadly smirk.

He swallows and sighs. His stare softens as well as his grip, but he never lets you fully go. “Why are you here? Did my mother call you?” he asks, troubled.

“I- I’ve been invited as always. She told me you were coming back, yes. But it was my decision to come. I missed you… but don’t worry, I’m leaving if it’s a problem to you” you mumble, sad to see how much discomfort your presence seems to be bringing him.

Ryuuken realizes you aren’t the one to blame. “I’m really sorry” he murmurs, letting you go, but keeping his hand on the wall right next to your face. With his head hanging down, he takes his time to sketch a simple answer.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt you. It’s just that my family is desperate for me to marry… and… why must be me?” he says, knowing that the future of the Quincies -again- depends on him.

You bite your lips, and softly approach for his cheek. Carressing with utmost care his chin you pull him up to look at you. His eyes seem a little glossy as if a million of tears were trying to fall at the same time. You smile kindly, taking his glasses off and spreading your arms to receive him in them.

He doubts, but ultimately succumbs to your hug. Ryuken’s forehead rests on your shoulder, and your palm traces circles over his back. You are worried about ruining his white coat with just your touch, but it isn’t important now.

“It’s ok… you can marry me” you suddenly say, surprising him -and frankly yourself-. “What?” he asks, completely dumbfounded.

You laugh lovingly. “I’m an Eicht Quincy… I’m all you need. Let’s get married, let’s give them what they want. I will let you be completely free, you don’t really need to act like a husb-“

He shuts you up with an unexpected, needy kiss. With eyes big as the moon, you let him kiss you and soon your lids fall over them. You enjoy the interaction, the wet tongue of many years of lust…

He doesn’t stop kissing you, and blindly opens the door behind you. None of you know exactly if that was his room or not, but both get inside.

“I- Let’s do it” Ryuken says, resting his forehead on yours. You still have his glasses on your hands, trying not to crush them. You wonder what is he saying… let’s do what?

“Getting married or you fucking me?” you ask, shamelessly. It makes him subtly laugh, you have always been that way with him, since those academy years where he used to “die” for his cousin Masaki.

A smirk on his lips means both, and you let his skilful doctor hands to peel your dress off your body.

“Both?” you ask, once you fall back into a big bed that you assume is for the guests.

“Is it too bad if we have our wedding night before the wedding?” Ryuuken whispers, letting you undress him.

His pale lips travel from the commissure of your lips to your neck; the scent of his skin, as pure as always, invades you. It strikes you with the sweet chocolatey notes of his perfume, and the darkness of his stare now tinted in pure desire. Your legs surrounding his waist, pressing him down harder, joining your sex in wet and hard mixture.

He touches your face when his lips finally unlock from yours. The starcross of his heritage hangs in silver shine from his wrist, metallic reminder of how power can be freeing but also oppressive. A power you delightfully taste by trapping one of the points of the stars with your tongue and into your mouth.

He shivers, and perhaps an out-of-control grunt escapes his throat. “You have always been so tempting, (Name)” he barely murmurs.

“It’s because I’ve always wanted you… but you were too blind to look at me” you recriminate, as he goes down your breasts and bites you hard. It makes you squirm and swear, owning for the second a soft slap on your cheek.

“Don’t talk that way to your future husband” he orders you, turning you around violently. You bury your head on the mattress as Ryuuken pulls you from your hips up. Leaving you on all fours, but with your chest pressed against the bed, he prepares to work you from behind.

You gasp twice. Once for the audacity of turning you around so violently, and two, for the way he acts as you never thought he would.

The white-haired Quincy bends over your curled back, his warm skin against your extra sensitive one. His hand grabbing a full fist of your hair and pulling your head back. “I’ve always wanted you too, let’s keep our bloodline running”.

You smirk looking at him from the side, matching the darkness in which he is immersed in. “Fuck me then, Ryuuken”

No need to tell him to do so, as his white pants go down and his erection nests in between your warm, wet folds. He shivers, his fingers bury in your hips. Ryuuken takes his time to enjoy the embrace of your anatomy without penetrating you right away. He plays with the need of you body, with the way you move in search of his sex invading your insides, stretching you out, filling you…

Paradox Live The Animation Episode 3 Review - The Found Family

TCW have such a calm and soothing vibe; they’re so warm and adorable too! Compared to BAE who are a group of inseparable besties and cozmez who are actual brothers, TCW feel like a little family with Saimon as the dad, Yohei as the mom, and Shiki and Ryu are their kids. It feels like a nice change in tone from the energetic vibes that the youngsters of BAE and cozmez gave off. Maybe it’s because TCW have actual working adults in the fray?

Speaking of which, BAE vs cozmez ended with the former as winners, but why did TCW vs Akan Yatsura already spoil the results after the opening sequence? That’s no fun! However, I do think that the prime focus wasn’t about their rap battle but the group as a whole and plot related stuff. The main focus of this episode is like a snippet of TCW’s daily lives with Ryu finding a cat one day and Shiki trying to recover from his trap reactions and anxieties over his mistakes on stage.

Saimon is the gentle father figure to the kids and loyal and trustworthy confidant of Yohei. He’s definitely the glue that sticks them together because he’s the one who found all of them one day, pertaining to his bad habit of picking up strays. I do find him adorable as heck with the way he gets swayed by Ryu’s puppy eyes and the Kurobuchi’s kitty eyes combination and asks Yohei if they can keep the cat. Yohei’s the caring but nagging mother hen who acts like he doesn’t care but truly does. I do wonder how these two met because they seem to be long time friends. Regardless, whoever designed these two and the kids deserve a raise because they’re all so gorgeous. Like, Paradox Live doesn’t skimp with the designs. They’re all legit 10/10’s.

Shiki is very anxious. He has very poor reactions to phantometals and his trap reactions probably are worse than Allen’s. The way he screamed in the middle of the night was really hard to watch. I do wonder what his connection is to Nayuta. Are his reactions related to Nayuta? Other than his trap reactions, Shiki as a character is a very meek individual. He’s insecure, has low self-esteem and always holds back. From what I know, all Paradox Live characters have sad backstories, so I assume the same for Shiki.

Ryu’s the biggest mystery in the group. Nothing is known about him. He has no memories nor a given age. I’m not even sure if Ryu is his actual name. Eccentricities and enigmas aside, Ryu’s biggest unique factor is his inability to have trap reactions. He can use phantometals all he wants and he won’t get withdrawals from them. While Shiki states that it’s a gift, it makes him different from the rest and that worries Ryu. It seems that Ryu’s biggest worries is being ostracized as an anomaly. There are glimpses of his memories as he seemed to have once been a lab rat and ran away. Is he related to Alter Trigger in a way? I have to say, Ryu’s my favorite of TCW despite me simping for how fine Saimon is at times. I think that his positivity is infectious and the way he described Akan Yatsura as Momotaro characters and Zen as muscles was hilarious.

Speaking of which, Akan Yatsura, from their brief screen time, also gives me big family vibes. Given how Iori and Yohei are connected, it’s like Akan Yatsura had a family outing and went to visit Yohei’s bar as a detour. I do wonder if these two groups will focus more on the darker side of this show’s story.

Also, I heard Akira Ishida as the crazy scientist in that one brief sequence change. They legit got a well-known VA like Ishida in this anime as well as Kenta Miyake as the Paradox Devil. They’re not playing around with the VAs at all. Heck, TCW’s voice cast list is pretty stacked. Saimon’s voiced by Ryota Takeuchi; Yohei’s voiced by Yuu Hayashi; Ryu’s VA is Natsuki Hanae and Shiki’s Junta Terashima. I’m familiar with all four VAs, so it feels great that they’re showing off more of their talents.

TCW’s song gives more of a jazz bar vibe and I like it a lot! It’s a lot different from the loud and fast tempo BAE and cozmez songs had. It matches their vibes a lot. Are all of their songs like this?

Anyways, this was a good episode and it makes me want to see more of this adorable family. I’m assuming next episode is focused on Akan Yatsura, and I’m excited to learn about them too! I feel like these episodes are more focused on characterization rather than singing and I’m not too sure how I feel about that. On one hand, it’s nice to learn about the characters and not get the songs overshadowing them. On the other hand, I don’t like that the rapping is always towards the end. Anyways, what are your thoughts about this episode?

Kehangatan di Musim Dingin

Ishida Uryuu x Ueno Fuyuki

Angin malam di pertengahan bulan Januari membuat malam itu terasa semakin dingin. Salju turun tidak gerlalu lebat sebenarnya. Hanya saja, itu tetap membuat orang-orang enggan keluar rumah.

Dan itulah yang terjadi pada Ishida Uryu. Dokter muda itu masih sibuk dengan jarum, benang dan kain di tangannya. Kalau dipikir-pikir, dia sudah duduk diam di sofa seperti ini selama dua jam setelah ia pulang dari rumah sakit. Sekarang sudah pukul 10 malam. Pantas saja Fuyuki yang berkata akan menemaninya, ternyata justru telah terlelap sambil bersandar di punggungnya.

Gadis itu meringkuk di sofa dengan selimut tebal membungkus tubuhnya. Tentu saja itu tidak terlalu mengherankan bagi Uryu. Karena ia ingat betul bahwa Fuyuki pernah berkata tentang kelemahannya pada musim dingin. Meskipun telah menyalakan penghangat ruangan, Fuyuki masih butuh sesuatu untuk menghangatkan tubuhnya.

Uryu membenarkan letak kacamatanya, dan menaruh kain yang telah dijahitnya di meja setelah ia memotong benangnya. Tangannya lalu bergerak untuk memindahkan Fuyuki pada posisi yang nyaman di pelukannya.

Gadis dengan helai keperakan itu menggeliat. Kelopak matanya terbuka perlahan, dan manik lilacnya menatap Uryu yang kini tengah memeluknya.

"Maaf jika aku membangunkan mu." Uryu tersenyum, sementara jemarinya dengan lembut menyingkirkan helaian rambut Fuyuki dari wajahnya. "Jika kamu sudah ingin tidur, pergilah ke kamar."

Suara Uryu terdengar lembut dan membuat Fuyuki tersenyum. Ia menggeleng pelan, lalu merapatkan tubuhnya pada Uryu. Berusaha mencari kehangatan dari tubuh suaminya itu dengan melingkarkan kedua tangannya ke pinggangnya. "Aku masih ingin menemanimu. Apakah kamu sudah selesai menjahit?"

Uryu mengangguk dan meraih sweater yang telah selesai ia jahit dan menunjukkannya pada Fuyuki. "Mau mencobanya?"

Sejujurnya tanpa bertanya pun, Uryu sudah tau jawabannya. Karena gadisnya itu akan selalu dengan senang hati memakai apapun yang Uryu jahitkan untuknya. Dan itu tentu saja membuat Uryu merasa senang luar biasa.

Fuyuki melepaskan pelukannya dan mengambil sweater berwarna biru langit itu dari tangan Uryu. Sementara mata Uryu mengamati gerak-gerik Fuyuki saat mencoba hasil jahitannya kali ini.

"Bagaimana?"

"Ini sangat nyaman, dan ... hangat."

Uryu tersenyum lebar, ada rasa bangga di hatinya setelah mendengar jawaban Fuyuki. Ia lalu mengambil satu sweater lagi dengan warna serupa dan menunjukkannya pada Fuyuki. "Sebenarnya, aku membuat sepasang."

Oh! Manik lilac Fuyuki berbinar. Ini adalah pertama kalinya ia memiliki barang pasangan dengan Uryu. Tentu saja itu selain cincin pernikahan mereka.

Melihat reaksi Fuyuki yang tampak antusias membuat Uryu juga tidak sabar mencoba sweater yang ia jahit itu. Ia segera memakainya. Dan kini, mereka telah memakai sweater pasangan itu.

Senang.

Uryu bisa melihat bahwa gadisnya itu sangat bahagia. Rona merah di kedua pipi Fuyuki yang pucat membuatnya terlihat seperti bunga mawar yang sedang merekah. Cantik ... dan menggemaskan.

"Kamu menyukainya?" Uryu bertanya lagi. Tapi yang ia dapat bukanlah sebuah jawaban, melainkan sebuah pelukan erat dari sang gadis berhelai perak. Gadis itu tak mengatakan apapun dan hanya mengangguk. Meski begitu, Uryu tahu bahwa Fuyuki menyukainya.

"Terima kasih, Ryu..."

Kedua pipi Uryu perlahan memerah setelah mendengar Fuyuki berbisik padanya. Tangannya sekali lagi melingkari tubuh mungil sang gadis dan menariknya semakin erat dalam pelukannya.

"Sama-sama. Aku tahu kamu tidak tahan dengan udara musim dingin. Karena itu, aku ingin membuatmu tetap hangat."

"Aku sudah cukup hangat sekarang."

Fuyuki tersenyum sambil memejamkan matanya dan menikmati rasa hangat yang Uryu salurkan padanya. " ... hangat sekali..."

Uryu tidak bisa untuk tidak tersenyum melihat tingkah Fuyuki yang menggemaskan. Gadis itu, sekarang telah menemukan tempat yang nyaman untuknya. Dan itu tentu saja ... adalah di dalam pelukan sang suami.
